Audio Drama Sunday - 5th May ✨
There’s something so so satisfying about HFTH being on ep 150, while TSV is on 40 and Travelling Light (TL, if you will) is on 20 . . . the brain is going brrrr.
Here’s what I listened to this week! Spoilers ahead!
👻 @tellnotalespod (S2E9) oh what a beautiful episode 😭I’d like to bestow the highest accolade on Flo’s VA: hearing her voice and immediately casting her in an unwritten audio drama that will likely never be made. I have a theory about why Frank can’t just clear out the warehouse . . . but I really don’t want it to be true.
🌲 @hellofromthehallowoods (150) You can also find me in Camp ‘Hate That Noise’!! Awful. I love this nautical storyline so much. It’s one thing to be told that Buck is now a renowned detective and another to see him in action. Sad that someone had to die but . . . I can’t wait to see the case unfold!! I’ve been trying to wrap my head around Shelby leaving the entire week. Yes, it makes perfect sense from a survival point of view but I don’t think I could have done it.
🦀 @thesiltverses (40) what a good ep!! I’ve been so compromised by Carpenter this season. She sounds so very exhausted, even when she’s not being stalked by her god of death. I’m very concerned about ‘Verity’ who left the minute they arrived… did she recognise them?? Chuck Harm and Val are one of the most unexpected combinations of the year but I’m here for it. It is VERY interesting that Val is now suffering post-miracle. Is this a ‘gods need to feed’ situation or something else entirely. Working with God-killers worked so well for the government last time, so it’ll no doubt be over for her in no time . . .
🧳 Travelling Light @monstrousproductions (20) I can’t tell you how delightful it is that this show comes out on Friday and is exactly the length of my average cycle home!! It’s such a soothing way to start the weekend! There were so many banging lines in this ep, I love a spooky friend!
🏛 @the-mistholme-museum (CONCLUSIVE) You heard it on Mistholme first! People from Yorkshire (me) have the best voices. Like honey, chocolate and coffee all at once - so people say. I can’t believe this is the penultimate episode 😭
🖥️ The Magnus Protocol (14) snake friends! How delightful!! I feel a little guilty at how entertaining Alice’s jealousy is. I feel so bad for her, but the office drama is too hard to resist.
🍎 @notquitedeadpod (XXXVII) my heart!! 💔 I had to laugh at Neige’s disdain for Alfie’s more intimate recordings right before expounding on his own experiences . . . including with their shared boyfriend! It’s a little petty. I love it. And, god, can we talk about this last line? ‘And when you call, I will come back to you because you have begun to feel like home.’ HELLO? Christ.
🌞 Small Victories by @wgc-productions (2.1) How many cosmic interventions will it take for Marisol not to make cosmically bad choices? I don’t know! I’m keeping a close eye on Summer . . .
🧋 @hinaypod (3-4) Honestly, kind of kudos to Laura because if I went through what she did I would simply never touch an antique again… I really love Donner and Murphy’s rapport and how they recognise and respect Mari’s skills!

had the hardest time picking, but here we go:
5. no shortage of nutcases
i wanted to write and post a crack fic for so long, and this is one i think is genuinely funny! in a slightly chaotic way lmao. it's also a huge crossover between 4 fandoms, which made it challenging to write even though it's very short. i'm very very proud of it!
4. lose
i really didn't expect this fic to have such a high (for me) reach and get so much positive feedback. it means a lot to me personally, and i'm honored every day i get that kudo email and see someone has left some on this specific work!
3. silence treatment
"unreliable narrator", when used right, is imo the absolute best thing that can ever happen in any media/story!! and i think i did a pretty okay job at it in this fic, esp with the unexpected angst angle. this is one of those fics where i envisioned what i wanted it to feel like before writing it, and feel like i actually reached that with the finished product (even if it's not perfect)!
2. it's always darkest before the dawn
okay, so not anime related at all, and it's a very old fic... but it's my fix it fic for game of thrones finale (well, for brienne's fate anyway) and it recently gained a little bit of attention (GIVE OLD FICS ATTENTION PEOPLE, IT MAKES THE WRITER'S WEEK!!!) and got me all emotional over it again, because.... it's been a while, but i still think it's actually not that bad?? also, i miss that universe and those characters, and i'm still glad that i posted this even though i remember being sooo intimidated by that fandom back then!
1. get off with you
currently my fave fic of mine, but i'm aware that's going to wear off over time as it always does! this was my first victuuri fic, and a multichap i completed under record time for me haha
this fic went places i didn't expect it would (as often) and i love love love the end result!

I have to thank @fitztragedy for so much beauty and joy that has entered my life since March of 2021 when I peeked into the Rivusa tag on tumblr and found my fandom fam. Your birthday gift this year is a rec list of all my favorite of your works!
Val and I often have different tastes in genres, but she’s taught me that the stakes don’t have to be literal life and death to be interesting or dramatic or discerning. Val’s stories excel in the quiet moments, the dialogue, the intimacies; it’s chasing after your lover in the pouring rain, it’s waking up next to someone with a stunning realization, it’s your friends having your back while also encouraging you out of your comfort zone (sound familiar? Because of Val I flew halfway around the world to meet up with friends that I met because of Rivusa, because of Val).

Rec: I think the summary captures this delightful romp quite well. Mo and Val managed to craft the story of a drunken bachelorette party WITHOUT turning all the fairies into annoying caricatures of themselves. The party’s aftermath features the Specialists as firefighters, Riven and Sky up to single guy shenanigans, led by an increasingly wearied Saul wearied by their antics. This story is an instant pick-me-up.
✨An Innocent Trust Exercise

Summary: In order to teach the fairies and Specialists to trust and learn from each other, Farah and Saul create a school-wide exercise: fairy & Specialist partners will be literally tied up for a week.
Rec: Written in the beginnings of the FTWS fandom, this fic cemented for me how much Val doesn’t let ideas go once they’re in her head. Expect fun banter, steamy smut, and worldbuilding crack treated seriously. Val takes a great premise and totally delivers. Fave exchange:

✨The Most Powerful Mind Fairy in Alfea

Summary: In Season 2, Ep 4, Rosalind calls Musa “the most powerful mind fairy here.” Missing scenes that slot into canon to explain Rosalind’s opinion.
Rec: This rec is a bit personal; S2 left me reeling with where a lot of characters ended up and I had a hard time feeling creative about it, but then Val swept in and dropped this fic shortly after the premiere. I love how dark Val took this one, not shying away from Rosalind using torture to weed out the students she wanted to groom. Read for a great way to fill in the gaps S2 left us with.

All he has to do is get her pregnant to seal the deal.
Rec: I’m actually a huge sucker for arranged marriage, and apparently I also have a thing for exploring sex: is it a tool for control? for whose control? or for intimacy? What even is intimacy? I love the exploration of what healthy sex is, with a dash of insane kinky worldbuilding.

Summary: Musa is in desperate need of a roommate. Riven is available. Only problem is their apartment walls are very thin.
Rec: Look, I have to include Val’s magnum opus. I love that in every universe, in every timeline, not only will Rivusa get together, but Val will be there writing about it--featuring snappy banter, unrequited pining (until it’s requited ofc) and falling first into bed and then in love. Not to mention the steamiest of all smuts when Iva joined the story in the later stages. Brava, ladies!

canvas: Does your OC have any scars, piercings, tattoos, or other markings? Do they display or cover them up at all?
we’re gonna go with Célia for this one because i answered for Miri already :) yeah, she’s got a lot of scars from her time on the streets of Val Royeaux! she used to do jobs for people in the underworld and that hasn’t always treated her well. she doesn’t flaunt them, and during her time as a bard at court the ones on her face would have been hidden by a mask, but once she joins the inquisition, i doubt she thinks much of it. other than that, she’s got lots of freckles!
formal: What's your OC's formal look? Do they like dressing up? Do they have different looks for different occasions?
we’ll do both here! Miri’s never really had much reason to dress formally before the Inquisition, and she doesn’t see much use for it generally, but Josie and Leliana did talk her into a fancy outfit for the ball in Halamshiral! (bc that formal uniform doesn’t look good on almost anyone, let’s be honest…) it’s an emerald green gown with gold accents, and they put little halla horn ornaments in her hair like Hanal’ghilan 💖
Célia, on the other hand, has worn lots of fancy things in her time. she favors simpler, refined clothing in bright colors (scarlet and indigo are a few of her faves) with plenty of room to move, but she knows how to wear just about anything.
change: Has your OC ever drastically changed their appearance? Significant haircuts, big tattoos, complete wardrobe swap, etc? Why? How do they feel about the change?
Célia again, since we did this one for Miri as well. when she was recruited as a bard by one of the Orlesian nobility, she had to switch her entire wardrobe, certainly, as before that she had nothing remotely suitable for that kind of work. i see her as having kept her hair short up until that point (easier to groom), but she grew it out after that. i don’t see Célia as being over concerned with her appearance for her own sake, only for the sake of being able to do her job, so i don’t think she necessarily feels any particular way about it. she’s very pragmatic, and isn’t very concerned with her own looks.
that said… she loves Rylen’s tattoos… a lot lmao

Viv wouldn't be able to truly put into words what it meant to recognise these sorta of signs. Being so close and having been in so many fights some patterns are repeated in a way that puttin' them into words made them sound stupid. Different things for different fates, V could know better the state of her opponent if the injuries were just physical, especially made by blades.
Netrunnin' was its own beast but V had done enough work alongside Val to be able to read some tells. If you didn't know how to read 'em it could mean you ended up on the floor. When the death rattle came, V had dashed back - lucky to have no cars come in that direction, one hand holding tightly into the side of the wall. Knees bent. Ready to fuck off at any moment. Anything that had gone wrong.
Psychos were like that, sometimes even the strongest shit took a while. Sometimes they lost it completely, exploded into a massive mess of guts and machinery or just decided to take you with them.
When V blinks she sees the familiar pink arm push past the clothes, and she allows it. Ah. Well, that wasn't good. V takes in a deep breath, looking up to the large publicity screens in the distance. The edges were blurry, darker and glitchy - not her fave. Not good. It hadn't been that long since she'd found herself in this state but at least the smell was better.
Company was a hard competition. Val was a looker but lost hard against Takemura.
“Oh no! Terrible!" she laughs, her blades now fully gone and her hand pressing against her wounds. That was enough blood lost. Padre had a point: these streets were watered with blood like their but that didn't mean she'd do it for free "We've got to go see Vik...! Damn, terrible...!"
She gives Val a shit-eatin' shit.
They both knew why and that was enough.
"I fuckin' hate dealin' with psychos..." she feels Val's strong arms around her frame pulling her, dragging her off somewhere. How many times was she gonna be dragged off to Vik's lookin' like a bag of mince that had torn at some point? She holds Val. Probably not as hard as she should have, her focus was on her wounds. She had survived hot asphalt “Fuck, I'm makin' a mess of your fit, Val."

Hunter is actually genuinely good at video games, and he doesn’t recognize that he is. But when it comes to harder games he really doesn’t struggle at all, Axiom thinks its because he can anticipate movements before they happen faster than normal. But there’s actually no proof of this!

Who among your OCs has the biggest selection of sex toys? Which one is their favorite, aka old faithful?
OOOF hmmm
I mean Val and Donna wind up basically sharing theirs between each other, so I would say Donna when they're living with him again. However, before that, they just don't have the space to have that many at the shop, so then the title of Most Sex Toys goes to Sam 😌 (this is not including like BDSM gear/tools, which again would go to Sam by default too lmao)

Fave killjoy? Least fave? And why?
Fave killjoy is definitely Jet Star. I actually first started focusing on him mostly because I didn't see a ton of work with a focus on him? And I usually like to make content for characters/ships that aren't super popular (but still aren't completely unknown). And as I worked on fleshing him out he just really grew on me!! ✨✨✨
Least favorite....uhh....hm. Might just go ahead and say Val Velocity purely bc i would 100% fistfight him given half the chance 😘
