shout out to all the systems that formed from “unusual” trauma or trauma that's never talked about in this community - being bullied, sibling abuse or abuse from someone that's not your parent, near death experience(s), medical abuse, and anything and everything else
you're all valid. the child's brain is incredibly fragile and everyone is traumatized differently. just because your trauma wasn't from a parent, doesn't make you any less valid.
i wish more people spoke about the other sources of trauma

I keep coming across the abbreviation USDD. At first I thought it was a typo but I keep seeing it, and recently saw it on an emoji blog that makes flags. In the same post they had OSDD, UDD, and USDD. I’m very confused and have no idea what “USDD” could mean. I know from context it’s being used as an abbreviation of a disorder, but I can’t think of what it could possibly stand for. Have you ever come across this? Do you know what it means?
we have seen “usdd” referred to as “unspecified dissociative disorder” before. as far as we know “usdd” and “udd” both refer to the same thing. we’re not really sure what else “usdd” could stand for, and we haven’t seen it in any other context.
if anyone else knows what “usdd” might stand for, feel free to let us know; thanks!

Saw a post today making fun of teenagers who confide in their therapists that they think they have DID and that their trauma is being bullied at school.
And here’s the thing,
That bullying at school could have been happening for years. It could have been happening since they were between the ages of 6-9. Bullying is traumatizing. It is enough trauma to cause a person to become dissociative, DID, OSDD, USDD, what have you. Being constantly bullied, no matter it’s physical, mental, spiritual or emotional, is enough trauma to cause a person - a child - to split and fail to integrate. It’s traumatic to be bullied by the people you’re surrounded by for multiple hours, five days a week. We’re an OSDD-1b System, and a lot of our trauma comes from being bullied throughout the body’s entire goddamn school career. It’s awful, it’s alienating, it has sent us into so many suicidal idealization spirals it’s not even funny.
If they can name their alters, or “know what they look like”; sure, they might not have DID specifically, but they could still have OSDD or USDD. These labels are lesser known, so if a teenager says they have DID but still know their alters, chances are that they just haven’t heard of the other disorders in the System community.
And that isn’t something that should be laughed at, or gatekept - it should be something that sparks conversation and education. Let the teens explore, let them figure out, and, if they are open to it, educate them on the other labels.
Don’t fucking point at a literal child/minor - especially if you’re a whole ass fucking adult - who is trying to find an explanation for their mental health issues and make them into a joke. That is literally so fucking ableist and demeaning that it isn’t even something to be scoffed at. Be the grown up you’re meant to be and don’t. Do. This. Shit.
You aren’t cool, you aren’t smart, and you aren’t fucking funny at all. Stop gatekeeping disorders from kids and let them figure it out. As long as they aren’t hurting anyone, including themself, then what’s the big fucking deal if a 16 year old says they have DID because they think they fit even most of the criteria? It could mean they’re more likely to seek out a therapist, counseling, or just a mental health community to support them.
You don’t know the life stories of random teenagers online. Trauma affects us all differently. Stop fucking fake-claiming all because you think your experience is universal. Maybe just shut the fuck up altogether. I don’t know just a thought.
[Don’t Syscourse on this post, please]

do u think dpdr should be considered a dissociative disorder? im not asking to discourse ive just literally never seen anyone talk abt anything like that
dpdr is considered a dissociative disorder, is the thing. general medical consensus is that depersonalization and derealization are forms of dissociation, and so dpdr is one of three specified dissociative disorders listed in the dsm alongside dissociative amnesia and did (osdd and usdd being otherwise and unspecified respectively and therefore not listed as dedicated diagnoses).
the haunted self is literally just arguing that huge swathes of experiences considered dissociative in public consensus should be redefined as something else because something something dissociation is exclusively related to trauma and exclusively fragments the personality, Loyalty To (our version of) Janet's Vision. they have a dedicated chapter where they laundry-list off what IS and ISN'T #trudissociative as per their model. it's all really weird

Guide to the OSDDs
OSDD stands for Otherwise Specified Dissociative Disorder, and it’s the last catch-all category in the dissociative disorders (including DID, DPDR, dissociative amnesia, OSDD, and unspecified dissociative disorder, or USDD). The diagnosis DDNOS (dissociative disorder not otherwise specified) was used prior to the DSM-5.
It’s split into several subtypes of OSDD.
OSDD-1 is “almost DID,” but lacking one of the diagnostic criteria for it. OSDD-1a is DID without sufficiently distinct alters, whereas OSDD-1b is DID without amnesia.
OSDD-2 is a change in identity/dissociation caused by coercion, such as a result of torture, brainwashing, thought reform, indoctrination, recruitment into cults/sects/terror organizations, etc).
OSDD-3 is typically a temporary diagnosis for a dissociative disorder brought on by recent trauma. These symptoms tend to not last longer than a month but can include intense dissociation, depersonalization, amnesia, lack of physical abilities and coordination, etc.
OSDD-4 is dissociative trances, when individuals slip into highly dissociative states and may be unconscious of events going on around them, may be confused or amnesiac afterwards, or otherwise slipping in and out of dissociative trances. This diagnosis is only given when the trances cannot be explained by something else, like seizures, drugs, religious or cultural activities, etc.
USDD is diagnosed when a dissociative disorder is present but does not fully meet the criteria for DID, DPDR, dissociative amnesia, or one of the OSDDs. USDD may also be used when the clinician does not choose to disclose more information about the dissociative disorder being diagnosed or is diagnosing quickly in emergency settings (indicating that there’s evidence for a dissociative disorder but not time to diagnose specifically).

is unspecified dissociative disorder and dissociative disorder not otherwise specified synonymous? or are they different disorders entirely? i was originally diagnosed with the former but i *know* i'm a system and so does my psych, and when i told him i've been seeing that UDD can't have a system, he said we should look into another diagnosis. but if DDNOS can have one, is it the same?
DDNOS/UDD are both outdated terms (DSM-4).
Now we have Otherwise Specified Dissociative Disorder (OSDD) and Unspecified Dissociative Disorder (USDD) for the DSM-5. OSDD-1a and OSDD-1b can both have a system. Here’s my post about OSDD/USDD, if you have questions beyond that let me know!

So, apparently in my country there's a diagnosis called "passing childhood and teenager dissocative disorder" (my country uses ICD-10 i think) and no developed info about did/osdd and my psych thinks that i have that disorder tho i know i have alters
I don’t know your psychologist but I think one of two things might be happening.
a) your symptoms are being downplayed or not taken seriously by your psychologist. This might be due to your age, how seriously they take dissociative symptoms, or perhaps just, like you said, an issue of culture and information available about the disorders.
b) you’re being diagnosed with this not due to a lack of recognition of symptoms, but as a placeholder diagnosis for insurance purposes while your psychologist takes full note of your symptoms and sees if they pass on their own.
DID (and other dissociative disorders) have been found in relatively the same frequency across a variety of cultures and countries, it’s not just me pushing a US-centered model. If I were you, I’d use information available online for DID/OSDD to treat the symptoms you have, and hold out for a diagnosis for a little while (you’ve been given the DSM equivalent of USDD, unspecified dissociative disorder).
Please let me know if you have any questions. I’m happy to help.
