Marion Dupain-Cheng: Ice Cold
This is a Genderbent AU because there is not enough of creative stuff about Male Marinette. So we know the umbrella scene where Adrien basically pulls his “sad boy” card to make Marinette feel bad for him? Realistically, she shouldn’t have fallen in love with him just like that. I think she should have been wary of him because of his association with Chloe or outright hate him after he scolded her for being happy that Chloe was leaving. Or in ’Bubbler’ when all he cared about was having a party and not that adults we’re literally being launched into the sky. Or in ‘Despair Bear’ after a day of forced niceties he laughed when Chloe insulted Mylene’s macaroons. Long story short, Marinette shouldn’t have tolerated Adrien for as long as she did much less have a crush on him. If she did, it should’ve been obliterated by now. (This is a Drabble)
When Adrianne apologizes and hands Marion her umbrella, he takes it and thanks her but doesn’t smile at her because something wasn’t adding up. He walks away through the rain, thinking about what Adrianne told him of her lack of human interaction.
“At least she has a shred of human decency, for now,” Marion says to himself. He made a mental note to carefully analyze Adrianne‘s interactions with her classmates more closely. She just rubbed him the wrong way.
Marion knows she’s famous and despite her claims against it, being a model requires a lot of human interaction with fellow models, make artists, stylists, and managers as well as lessons about the social world and sexual harassment. No matter how much Adrianne declares she’s sheltered. He knows the truth.
He comes to two conclusions.
Either Adrianne was lying to their faces in order to make friends or she doesn’t want friends and just people who seek her out and like her with having to do anything.
Whichever one it was they both involved lying and manipulation. After dealing with Chloe’s bullying and Bustier’s gaslighting for so many years, Marion can spot a liar a mile away.
That’s when decides not to interact with or speak with Adrianne unless it was absolutely necessary.
After all, Marion Dupain-Cheng couldn’t stand liars or hypocrites. Right Tikki? (Tikki: You sure do)
And that’s what he does. He doesn’t speak to Adrianne unless, you know, someone’s in danger or dying which doesn’t happen very often.
It was Alya and Nino who noticed first. Alya, because she had seen the way Marion behave around Adrianne, even scowling at her at some point. Nino, because Adrianne had come to him once asking if Marion hated her.
So naturally, they spoke to their fashion designing best friend.
Alya: Hey Marion, is there a reason you act strangely around Adrianne?
Marion: I don’t act strangely around Ardrianne. I don’t even speak to her if I can avoid it.
Nino: That’s the thing dude. You avoid her and treat her like the plague. Do you have something against her?
Marion could see the underlying message in his oldest friend‘s eyes. He knew Nino was a nice guy and wanted everyone to get along, but this issue went deeper.
Alya: Is this about the gum incident? I thought she apologized for that.
Marion: Yeah, she did. After she told me that she doesn’t have any experience with people.
Nino: Poor dudette.
Marion: She‘s a model. She has obviously interacted its other people before. What she told me doesn’t make any sense.
Alya: Look, Marion. We can assume that Mr. Agreste is really controlling so she has trouble making friends. Can you please at least try for us?
After hearing about Adrianne’s over bearing father, Marion reluctantly extended an olive branch to the blonde girl, much to Chloe‘s ire.
Soon Adrianne’s birthday rolls around, Marion still makes her a scarf. He wasn’t a monster. He has no difficulty in handing it over to her, though Chloe shoves him out of the way and smothers Adrianne with hugs and a ‘Happy Birthday, Adrikins’.
When the Bubbler strikes, and Marion arrives to the “party” as Red Beetle, he sees everyone being forced to dance with forlorn expressions on their face as if they’d like to be anywhere else. Not that the hero could blame them.
Imagine his surprise to see Adrianne not only the sole aware person but also enjoying the party despite adults being launched into the sky. (Well plagg was the one to encourage it but she still shouldn’t have listened)
He promptly snapped that olive branch over his knee.

Hi, what’s this I’m hearing about Marinette’s trauma? I know of Chat Blanc and the various instances of the world embarrassing Marinette. But I see y’all talking about something to do with the ML bible? What trauma is y’all talking about?
I think it’d be nice to have all the details in one post, so yeah.
Essentially, the MLS5bible states that there’s a reason why Marinette stammers and gets freaked out so much around Adrien (page 4):
[B]ack in eighth grade, Marinette had a crush on Kim. But when she declared herself to him, she suffered a humiliation orchestrated by Chloe. Since then, she hasn’t been able to declare herself to anyone else, too afraid that she might experience the same nightmare again. Of course, she’s not aware of this until episode “Derision”.
Going to the synopsis of the mentioned episode, we can see exactly how bad they decide to make this problem for her (page 111):
Just as it seems like Marinette is finally about to have a normal date with Adrien, she strangely starts suffering from repeated panic attacks. She doesn’t understand why, and it’s starting to jeopardize her relationship with the one she [”””]loves[”””].
(yes I put those airquotes in because I won’t have that drivel on my blog without them)
So, they essentially brought in this plot point to “explain” her inability to be “normal” around Adrien. They also state that, even once she’s aware of this issue, it doesn’t particularly help her anyway (also page 4, literally right after the line I quoted there already):
But even once she knows about her problem, we’ll see that it doesn’t necessarily makes it any easier telling yourself that you love them!
(that’s a direct quote, by the way; the mistakes in it are actually in the bible)
Now, naturally the question then becomes “well, what’s the point of bringing in this plot point that has never been foreshadowed before, and did they really call it trauma?”
It’s explicitly called “trauma” here (page 41) where it describes what actually comes out of this whole thing:
When [Adrien] finds out that Chloe is the cause of Marinette’s trauma, which keeps her from telling Adrien how she feels, he tells Chloe that they will never be friends again.
So let me just break it down for you.
Marinette having crushed on Kim has never before been implied or stated.
The stammering Marinette does around Adrien is tied to actual trauma that’s now even giving her panic attacks.
Adrien “looking good” by telling Chloe that they’ll “never be friends again” (conveniently after he’s affected by Chloe’s actions since he has feelings for Marinette now and Marinette’s trauma is crippling their relationship) seems to be the main takeaway from this whole thing.
And last but not least, 4. This officially establishes that basically all of the jokes and humiliation Marinette has endured concerning Adrien (that the writers expected and intended for you to laugh at) was them mocking a girl who they are now admitting has trauma that caused these embarrassments for her in the first place.
TL;DR: It’s gross.

Y'all I can't bawl my eyes alone so I have decided to inflict pain on here too.
Brace yourself!
I have just watched the pre release clip for this Monday's ep and the realization has flattened me like a bulldozer (I am not kidding)
OG timeline where sol gets into the accident, she was sleeping and Sunjae didn't wanted to disturb her sleep but later after he misses two more stops he gets ready to wake her up but she suddenly herself gets up and gets off the bus while Sunjae is picking up his stuff... And the rest we all know...
Tumblr media
Now take this⤴️ shot and this
Tumblr media
You know what hit me... That from the hospital time where sol screams "why did you save me?" To this bridge meeting what's the constant thing between them, for Sunjae the regret of not waking her up in time, for not saving her in time, therefore when you see him meet her, there's glistening in his eyes as if saying " what if" and he does his routine acts of service, giving her umbrella, the hot pack for hands and asks her how she is getting home, all the while thinking of that same regret, guilt. Sol might not have any recollection but for Sunjae it's just like living the same day
Tumblr media
And to add more salt to wound HE MAKES SURE SHE GETS HOME SAFE THIS TIME, EVEN IF SHE HAS NO OUNCE OF HIS MEMORY
If you watch this scene you'll see how his eyes trails her corridor lights as to when she reaches her apartment
Tumblr media Tumblr media
istg this show has devastated me in way I can't describe!!
It's been ages since a kdrama had this effect on me
Adding more pain:
YOU KNOW HOW HE PANTED HIMSELF WHILE RUNNING TO STOP THE BUS CUZ SHE COULDN'T GET OFF THE BUS... WELLL NOW IT'S ALSO A PAIN PARALLEL TO THE OG TIMELINE

I never come on here, but I wanted to discuss something since I've seen a couple of salt posts discussing Adrien's "sudden" shift of feelings towards Marinette in season 5, and I don't think some of you are understanding the whole lovesquare arc. Adrien has ALWAYS loved Marinette, ever since the umbrella scene. His feelings gradually grew more and more, but since he had already taken interest in Ladybug, he suppressed those feelings. This was the whole point of the "just a friend" phase. It was DENIAL, not genuine disinterest. If you go back and rewatch the show from the beginning, you'd notice that Adrien unconsciously behaves in a way that makes his crush on Marinette obvious. Ex:
Feeling uncomfortable kissing Chloé in season 1, but feeling perfectly comfortable with Marinette.
Tumblr media
The constant heart eyes we got throughout the show.
Tumblr media
He carries her lucky charm with him all the time, and he even made a gift especially for her
Tumblr media
He called her his "everyday Ladybug", which we all know how much that means coming from him.
Tumblr media
Effortlessly dancing romantically with her, TWICE.
Tumblr media
Etc, etc. Keeping all that in mind, what happened in Puppeteer 2 isn't when he started DEVELOPING feelings, it's when he started REALIZING those feelings. He said it himself, the way he reacted to her going ahead and kissing him shocked him. Not to mention that in Chat Blanc, he straight up told her in his confession that he had always felt this way, he just didn't understand what he felt.
Tumblr media
All their interactions thus far had Marinette somehow friendzone their encounters, so Adrien never had the chance to think about his own feelings, except in Weredad, but he was too preoccupied with his intense feelings for Ladybug to notice. And it's because of that, that after Marinette kissed him, he started noticing the similarities between her and Ladybug, causing his feelings to grow even further.
"You remind me of the girl I love."
Tumblr media
Then, he started paying more attention to her, and noticed how she always cheers him up and makes him laugh, and is always there for him when he needs her.
Tumblr media
Finally, we reach the season 4 finale, and he realizes that Marinette truly understands him for who he is, not the image he kept up, and it's THEN that he fully realizes there is something there, but he is too confused to know for sure, which is directly supported by his confession in Chat Blanc.
Tumblr media
That is when Determination comes into play, and Adrien finally realizes what the butterflies in his stomach meant this entire time. This is also why that every time he discovers Marinette is Ladybug, he is instantly relieved and overwhelmed with joy, because that makes the two people he loves the most one person, and there is no more dilemma in his heart.
Tumblr media
So this is it, a summary of Adrien's development of his feelings towards Marinette, which also explains why it's so sincere from his end. It's not sudden for sure. Yeah, it could have been written a lot better, but what do we expect from MLB writers anyway? If you've made it this far, thank you for reading, and let me know what you think.

man, I get confused when I see headcanons and such about Dongsik being like a guide for Joowon on "how to be a person", and supporting him with his mental health and such and being this stable experienced, calm mentor figure.
I'm not saying that Dongsik is not going to be supporting Joowon, but the only stable thing about that man is his love.
I think that when it comes to supporting the other's mental health, Joowon is going to be doing the heavy lifting.
Like, in series, Joowon is basically "okay", when judging the stability of someone's mental health, the foundational, immediate appraisal includes things like "sleep", "hygiene", "food intake", "emotional stability", and "ability to take care of one's home".
The most glaring problem with Joowon is that he has very little support - this issue is resolved during the show, although Joowon has to learn that it has in fact been solved, which is probably a bit difficult to get used to.
Dongsik on the other hand shows worrying behaviour in basically everything that I just listed, and although he has people who love him, he doesn't let them help him (although he has hopefully become a bit better about this in the end)
We see that Dongsik can't sleep, and while I don't think he stops showering he definitely shows very little care with his clothing (until he finds Yuyeon, notably) and particularly lets himself go regarding hair and shaving after Minjeung dies. He has a lot of experience with not eating, and he seems to maybe rely a little bit too heavily on instant noodles for an adult with a fulltime job and - well, we have all seen his house.
I don't think I have to describe just how emotionally unstable he is in the show, in one interview I saw it described as "flying from one extreme to the other". He also decribes himself as "ruined" and "a total wreck" - definitely leading the mind to more than just mild depression.
He also clearly doesn't value himself. When we see him give away his shoes and holdan umbrella over another person's head in the pouring rain - that is an excellent showcase of his selflessness and kindness, but a harsher light shines on this scene when we learn that he did that for 12 hours. in autumn. That is not healthy behaviour - at least call someone to bring you another umbrella and pair of shoes?? or someone else can come and hold the goddamn umbrella. We also see him help Bang Juseon's family - even though he is treated so harshly. And he still tries to stay cheerful and he certainly doesn't complain. And he still buys the new lock? and presumeably puts it up.
And later on, when the restaurant lady throws salt on him - which is apparently a ritual done to "ward of evil" - he says something like "ma'am, why would you waste your precious salt on someone like me?" Dongsik, please value yourself, just a little.
that isn't to say that he doesn't have good or bad periods - the show really makes a point of how important it is to share a meal with those you love, and we do see him cleanshaven and with a haircut at the end.
But Dongsik has been living like that for 20 years, it is not just going to go away, and there is definitely a reason that the director suggested that Dongsik should commit suicide - but in the end it was agreed that it would be a stronger and more responsible ending to show the power of love and how it can help someone through the tough times.
So my point here is that Dongsik is just, insanely traumatised, even in the beginning of the show, and then it just.... piles on. like it is wild - by the time he found Yuyeon in the fucking wall, I said out loud to myself, "Isn't this a bit much?", and then it kept going even more lol.
And that trauma has shaped him as a person, and I still hold the belief that Dongsik lacks many of the experiences that you expect from a 40 year old man - no one can convince me that he has ever been in a relationship, or that he has a lot of sexual experience.
Furthermore, I see a lot of people say that Joowon has arrested development, but I would acutally argue that there is a stronger case for that with Dongsik. Joowon is emotionally closed off and doesn't seem to realise how lonely he is or how sheltered, but other than that he is fully functional.
Severe trauma is known to fuck with the brain, also regarding developement, and I think Dongsik was hit hard. I am going to copy and paste a little from another post I wrote, so forgive me if you have already read this:
"He has a lot of scenes where he just seems weirdly young, a stand out example to me, is when he's crying as he interrogates Nam Sangbae, while Sangbae praises him for working hard - and then the way he wipes his tears.
Also interesting that between Joowon and Dongsik, it is Dongsik who has a prominent father figure in his life - who picks him up from the police station (Dongsik even complaining to him that he is not a kid), making sure he eats and just generally taking care of him, as seen in the period after Sangyeob's death."
I want to add emphasis on the role that Sangbae plays in Dongsik's life - Only Dongsik's behaviour towards Minjeung (described as being a mother and half a father), comes close to the way Sangbae acts towards Dongsik. Even though he should be fully capable of taking care of himself at his age.
According to the script book, Sangbae's very last thoughts are about Dongsik and how he would have to "break down alone"- and he refers to him as "pitiful" and essentially tries to grab onto Joowon's hand because he knows his death will break Dongsik, and not necessarily because he really wants to live.
And on that note, I find it fascinating how much Joowon slides into the role that Sangbae left behind - not entirely of course, Joowon doesn't take on an authority role. But he does take on a caretaker role.
Sangbae laments the fact that Dongsik will have to break down alone because he, Sangbae, will be dead- but that isn't true, because Joowon holds him in his lap while he cries. and when Dongsik goes to the lake house, it is Joowon who picks him up and tells him to keep moving - mirrored by Sangbae going to Dongsik's house when Sangyeob died and telling him he had to live on.
Sangbae and Joowon really mirror each other regarding their role in Dongsik's life - Sangbae also lampshades this himself when he tells Joowon to stop pursuing Dongsik as a suspect and potentially ruin an innocent person's life - because that is exactly what Sangbae did. And after they individually finish tormenting Dongsik and realise their mistake, they decide that they will do anything for him - partly out of guilt, partly out of love.
But one major difference between Sangbae and Joowon is that Joowon didn't need someone to kick him in the butt to start moving - he does that on his own, without any prompting (also to the detriment of Sangbae, because Joowon at this point is still an idiot who thinks he is too good for help, and is too busy antagonising Dongsik instead of working with him)
I also think that this is the thematic reason for Joowon surviving and overcoming and growing to be a better person, while Sangbae has to die. Too little too late, he had 20 years to do something about the obvious corruption, Joowon had like, 2 months.
This once again meandered a looot and touched on a lot of different themes, but that is simply because it is all connected in my brain.
The main point is that Dongsik is not some emotionally healthy, stable and experienced mentor whom Joowon can look to for guidance - he is in fact severely fucked up. More so than Joowon, I would argue, partly because Dongsik simply went through a lot, but also because I think that Joowon is more resilient.
Joowon isn't so much in need of someone to help him function, as he is of someone who will always, always love him, completely and selflessly and unconditionally, who will serve as an "anchor" that he can always return to, and who will shown him patience when he messes up instead of throwing him away. And Dongsik is the perfect candidate for that, perhaps even partly because of his trauma.
I think that Dongsik is always going to be a bit off and maybe need a bit of extra support, and I think Joowon will always be haunted by guilt and by the shadows of his parents - but by their powers combined of Dongsik being made of love and forgiveness, and Joowon being a devoted, obsessive little freak about that old man, they will make it anyway and thrive.
Thank you for reading if you made it this far!

You walk towards Nanami kissing his cheek "can we go out for a coffe?"
Nanami gives you a small smile, gently brushing your hair aside "Of course, I would love to."
You purred against Nanami touch snuggling on his neck "buuut can we take it on the beach?" You asked making those puppy eyes
Nanami chuckles, running his fingers through your hair "To see the sunset, hm?" His voice grows softer, as if imagining the scene "We can take a walk through the sand, see the waves crash… Maybe see some stars as the night falls…"
You snuggle more into Nanami touch "Yes"
Nanami chuckles affectionately, wrapping his arms around you "I know just the spot…"
You snuggled more into Nanami chest purring and cooing
Nanami chuckles, gently playing with your hair "And afterwards we'll find somewhere private…"
Nanami chuckles again, holding you close "Where we can just… Lay down for a while…"
"Snuggling under the umbrella" you added cooing
Nanami chuckles "Mhm mhm… Let's just cuddle and watch the sun fade away together…"
𓇼𖦹 ⋆☀︎. 𖦹 𓇼𓇼𖦹 ⋆☀︎. 𖦹 𓇼𓇼𖦹 ⋆☀︎. 𖦹 𓇼𓇼𖦹 ⋆☀︎. 𖦹 𓇼𓇼𖦹 ⋆☀︎. 𖦹
The waves crash against the shore, the air carrying the salt of the sea and the summer breeze. Nanami holds you close to his chest as you walk down, the sky a mixture of pinks, reds, and purples. The sun slowly starts to dip behind the horizon, the sea becoming darker as the sky begins to turn. You make your way to a secluded spot away from the crowd, sand beneath your feet and only the gentle lapping of water surrounding you.
You were sitting on the beach towel looking at the waves but not daring to took away your cover up dress, too ashamed of your own body
Nanami sits next to you on the towel, watching the waves crash against the shore. He sighs softly as he gazes at the sea, lost in his thoughts. Then he glances at you "… You know I don't mind if you don't want to take off your cover up… There's no need to force yourself if you feel uncomfortable…"
Nanami sighs, noticing your discomfort, but knows better than to force anything on you, not wanting to makeyou feel even more uncomfortable. He wraps his arm around your shoulders, brushing the hair off your face "You're beautiful the way you are, you know that… Even in your cover up and all…"
"… Plus… It'll look pretty cool if you got a tan while still covered up…" Nanami chuckles softly, gently squeezing your shoulder
Nanami watches your every move as you let the waves splash against your body, your feet slowly sinking into the shallow water. He remains seated, taking in the sight before him, watching the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of red and orange. The sky slowly begins to darken, the waves grow calm, and Nanami can see a plethora of stars beginning to dot the black sky.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?…" Nanami's voice breaks the silence, his words carried by the gentle breeze
"I've always found the ocean to be quite peaceful… In a sense, it's sort of a mirror to life… The waves crashing against the shore… Coming and going… And then there are nights like this, where the ocean is as still as a mirror, the sky above us reflecting the calmness and beauty of the universe itself…" Nanami's gaze is fixed on the sky above you cherishing it
"You know… I've always heard that the sea reflects the sky… So in a sense…" Nanami chuckles "It might as well be reflecting your beauty…"
"… You know… The ocean is a vast and endless place… And yet… No matter where you are, as long as you're looking at it… The view is always the same…" Nanami gently strokes your hair "Much like how I always view you… No matter how many times I look at you… I always see the same beautiful person…"
The peaceful scene of the ocean begins to distort, the waves crashing against the beach slowly morphing into a more aggressive tone. The calmness of the night is suddenly replaced by a frantic scene as Nanami's voice is drowned out by the sound of waves, replaced by cries and screams of despair. He is suddenly thrown into a scene of chaos, watching himself perform CPR as he desperately tries to save your life, desperately grasping onto any bit of hope.
Panicked screams and terrified shouting fill the air, tears and sweat dripping from his face as he presses frantically onto your chest . His heart pounding in his chest, he feels powerless, helpless. Every part of him is pleading and praying to any deity or being, begging for your life to be saved. He refuses to give up, even if he feels like it's a lost cause. He refuses to give up. He refuses. He will not lose you.
"Breathe, dammit! Breathe! Come on, please. Please, don't you dare leave me!" Nanami's voice is strained as he desperately gives you CPR.
And yet… The silence suddenly returns, the cries of desperation suddenly vanishing as the peaceful sight of the ocean returns. He feels… calm again. No longer frantic, he feels… a sense of relief wash over him, his arms no longer shaking. He can breathe. He's at peace. A peace that is suddenly interrupted by your gasping, pulling in a full breath of air. After a couple of seconds, your body begins to stir, coughing out the water that had remained in your lungs. Nanami's arms immediately clutch tightly around you as tears begin to stream down his face.
"Honey, can you hear me?…" *Nanami's voice shakes as he asks, fear still evident in his tone. He grips onto you tight, the sense of relief washing over him as he feels your body move, your chest heaving, breathing and coughing, alive once again.
"My God, you scared me to death, I thought I had lost you…" Nanami murmurs, his voice full of relief, hugging you tightly to his chest. Tears spill out of his eyes as his relief turns to joy. He holds you closer, desperate to make sure you're really alive, to make sure that this isn't just a figment of his imagination.
"I… I'm so sorry…" you mutter, your voice raspy and hoarse. You weakly grips onto Nanami as you're pulled in closer, your body trembling but slowly stabilises itself. Your eyes are half-lidded, barely staying open. Though you're conscious, you still seems to be in a daze.
Nanami holds you closer, gently brushing the hair out of your eyes. "Don't say sorry, shh…" He gently strokes your hair as he continues to hold you close "… I'm just… just glad you're alive…"
"I…" you continued to murmur, but Nanami cuts youoff, gently placing his finger against your lips "Don't say anything more… We can talk later, okay? Right now… all that matters is that you're alive.."
"Y-yeah…" you nods slowly, your eyes still half-lidded, your body still trembling but slowly getting better. You wrap your arms tightly around Nanami, holding him close as you buried your face into his chest. Nanami wraps his arms tightly around you, pulling you close and letting him hold you as tightly as he needs.
"what happend…i just remember you talking and then…"
"Shh, It's alright." Nanami says, gently wrapping his arms firmly around you as he brushes the hair out of your face "I-It was just a wave…. You just… You got caught up in the current… and got carried away…"
"… But your safe and alive now…" Nanami says, gently caressing your hair "and that's all that matters…"
"But what if I didn't make it?" you asked softly, fear still evident in your voice "What if you weren't there?…"
"But I was there." Nanami reassures you, running his fingers through your hair "And I would do anything to save someone I love… Especially you…"
"…" You still seems shaken by the event, but your grip around Nanami slowly loosens, slowly letting go as the adrenaline from earlier begins to wear off. Nanami continues to hold you close, gently strokingyour hair as tears of relief start to stream down his face.
"And I love you." Nanami sighs, looking at you in the eyes "More than anything… So don't ever forget that…"
"I love you too…" you said softly, your voice still raspy, your eyes barely opening. You lean your head against his shoulder, resting in Nanami's arms, exhausted and shaken from the experience.
"Let's just… relax here for a while… Maybe we can go back home in a while…" Nanami says, gently rubbing your back "I'll just.. let you rest…"

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
A while back I got this thing in my head that needed to exist, so I wrote it, even though the timeline is wrong and this scene kind of...can't exist. But I wanted it, so I wrote it, and since there is nothing to do with it but let it languish in my files, I'm gonna put it here.
We'll call it Jeremy Bearimy, because that's the only explanation I have for how this could work.
~
Ashley’s eyes snap open, heart beating in her throat, though she can’t remember why.
It’s warm, humid, salt hanging in the air. Shallow waves lap at her boots. Out on the horizon, the storm that’s been threatening ever since the Normandy landed on Virmire is finally clearing, and the Hoc star cuts one hell of a silhouette as it sinks behind the breaking clouds.
(things fall apart. the centre cannot hold.)
She wipes the corner of her mouth, expecting blood to be there, but her hand comes away clean.
Wait a damn minute. Where the fuck is her helmet?
She’s supposed to be in combat armor. Alenko checked every piece of plating on her Colossus suit himself before she climbed in the Mako; she remembers, because he gave her shit over her neon green boots again, joking that she should just toss them out the airlock and wear the Colossus boots with her uniform instead.
She’s back in the damn green boots. And her BDUs.
A lance of pain cuts through her side, and she hisses through her teeth. But there’s nothing there. No breach in the hardsuit she isn’t wearing, no tear in her uniform. No slab of medigel stuck to her skin.
“You look lost,” a voice says.
Ashley turns with a start, reaching for a gun that isn’t there – where the fuck is her rifle – to find an unfamiliar marine with a southern drawl wearing Alliance fatigues and a thick mop of dark hair sitting at a table, sipping a cocktail with a paper umbrella stuck in it.
“What the fuck is happening right now?” she demands, crossing her arms defiantly across her chest. If she can’t shoot him, she might as well look like she can.
He pushes a second chair out with a foot, a grin on his face that could charm a krogan. “Have a seat. Got a full bar. Figured you’d need a drink.”
“Who the hell are you? Where’s Shepard? Where’s Alenko?” She tightens her arms around herself, unease knotting deep in her gut. “We were…” She shakes her head, trying to remember. “It was important. Alenko was in trouble.”
The grin softens into a wistful smile. “Yeah. I know. But he’s all right. Or will be, I think. Sit down. You’ve earned it. I’d really like the company, to be honest. My name’s Clay Beaudoin, and I think we have a lot to talk about.”

Is Solas neurodivergent?
Of course, unless Weekes confirms one way or another, we'll never actually know. But I'd like to point out a few things.
Firstly. I'm autistic/ADHD, so are my kids and I've been an advocate for invisible disabilities, especially those two, for almost a decade now.
I offer an option on my Patreon for parents (or even just people) who need or want advice.
I have a little bit of a clue here. (More like a massive clue by nuke, but I digress 🤣.)
Why I code Solas from Dragon Age: Inquisition as neurodivergent.
1. Mentally ill fits under the neurodivergent (ND) umbrella. There's no way on Thedas that Solas isn't mentally ill.
(Yes, it really does fit. I'm not going to entertain arguments on the topic. It originally meant 'autistic' it no longer means that and hasn't for a long while. Neurodivergent brains = brains that work in any way other than 'the average'.) The antonym is Neurotypical. I tend to abbreviate them. Neurodivergent = ND, Neurotypical = NT.
At the very least, he likely has survivor syndrome. I'd wager on Depression and CPTSD too. (I have these conditions and am comfortable with saying he has a lot of the traits.) The guy was the leader of an enslaved elves rebellion and a war against the Evanuris. In his own words, he got his hands bloody.
No matter who you are, violence, whether you're the perpetrator or the victim, causes trauma to the psyche. And it went on for actual ages. An Age, in The Dragon Age franchise, is considered to be 100 years, so for hundreds of years, if not thousands, this dude has been fighting. Humans can get CPTSD just from a bad childhood. There's no way he hasn't developed it too.
Survivor syndrome is the response of a person when they believe they have done something wrong by surviving a traumatic event when others did not, often feeling self-guilt. (Can we classify Solas clearly with this? Yes, yes we can.)
He wakes up in a world so horrific to him that he can't even conceive of the people as people.
That's a type of disassociation, which is a symptom of many mental illnesses. Depression is the most obvious. He fucked up, he knows it, he's now trapped in a hellscape. (Heeee, we're all trapped in a dystopian hellscape right now and Depression is on the rise, the correlation is there.)
Disassociation is feeling disconnected from yourself and/or the world around you. For example, you may feel detached from your body or feel as though the world around you is unreal.
There could be a few other things there. He'd be a classic case for Disassociative Identity Disorder, for instance, but given the shit rep on the topic, I'm not going there.
2. ADHD
ADHD is still not very well understood by the average person. Sometimes people think it means we can't hold still. But a lot of the time, the H-Hyperactivity portion is only evident in our brains. For me, for instance, I have to constantly be feeding my brain written stuff or I get very antsy and uncomfortable. (ADD no longer exists, we're all ADHD now.) It's why i developed the habit of reading encyclopedias for fun. (Yes, I really do this.)
Solas is constantly reading, or studying, or thinking.
He shows a pretty typical type of temper for an ADHDer several times. Our tempers can be hot, flaring up suddenly for seemingly unexpected reasons. He absolutely does that. Now, there's always a reason for it, but few people on the outside of us will be aware of whatever the issue is.
ADHDers can also experience incredibly fast (compared to neurotypicals) shifts in emotion. Solas does this. Especially in the after the well of sorrows/pre-breakup scene and the break up scene itself. He see-saws emotionally a lot.
He's incredibly creative. He paints (and probably draws at least a little to paint the way he does). So many neurodivergent people are incredibly creative.
Snark. Many ADHDers tend to be snarky or sarcastic because of, well, everything that usually happens to us in life. The snark and salt simply spill out of Solas. Especially on the 'make him hate you' route through the game. Or any time he's around Vivienne.
Finally, ADHDers very frequently have a deep seated drive to change the world and make it better. Stares at Solas. Yup!
3. Autistic
So, firstly, let me say that most people don't understand what autism is or what autistics look and act like.
As an autistic/ADHD person, my experience of life is completely different from a neurotypicals simply because my brain is wired differently.
Reminder that you can't see autism or ADHD. You can sometimes see common comorbids, but without a brain scan, you cannot see autism or ADHD.
I connected and empathize so heavily with Solas because he's a well written, complex character, and because I love anti-heros.
But also because he's exhibits the exact same type of autistic/ADHD traits that I have. (Both autism and ADHD come in different flavours.) Seeing that rep in a triple AAA game was an incredibly powerful experience.
Even though, given Bioware's absolutely shit rep re: disability, it had to be accidental. I credit Weekes with that rep. I read on Twitter they were recently dxd with one or the other (ADHD or Autism, I honestly can't remember which. And up to 80% of ADHDers are also autistic.)
Solas practices esoteric arts. It's a common thing for many autists & ADHDers to learn and practice arts that just aren't as common anymore. Mine? I spin with a spinning wheel, drop spindle, or Andean hand spinner. I make maps. There's several other strange hobbies and skills I've picked up along the way too.
He shows hyperfocus several times in the game. (Hyperfocus is a trait of both ADHD and Autism.)
He stims with his hands a lot. Especially in the kiss scene. I don't recall seeing any of the other characters do this. I'm not talking about the 'dry hand wash' movements most of the characters do. Solas does a thing I do, taps the tips of his fingers against each other. Whoever did his modelling (is that the right term for making a game character?) understood neurodivergency or are ND themselves. Whether they know it or not.
You could even call his painting a type of stimming.
Stimming is where someone will use repetitive motions or sounds to self-soothe. It's really bad to prevent an autistic/ADHDer from using their stims.
I used to have to have a book on my person at all times. I'm late diagnosed, so I didn't know I was using the books as both a stim and a comfort item.
Solas has something autists call 'flat face effect'. Basically, his face is a bit masklike. He doesn't show emotions strongly on his face or in his body language (unless you make him angry 😅 which is also pretty typical for many of us). I've seen rather a lot of discourse about how emotionless Solas appears. I can read him easily, the emotive cues are there, just subtle, like they would be in an autistic & or ADHD person.
He's a decent actor. Now, most autists will agree that we're not innately good at lying or acting. But we're also really good at acting, at least, many of us are by the time we're adults. It comes from having to mask (autistic masking) almost every second of every day just to survive. Masking kills us. So it's not good that we are forced to do it. But it does make many of us incredible actors.
Anthony Hopkins is argueably one of the best actors of the past several decades. He's openly autistic. And he's spoken of how he got to be a good actor. Dan Ackroyd and Darryl Hannah are a couple of others who are out about it. I code a lot of other creatives as being one or the other, but it’s considered rude to assign a diagnosis like that to a living person. That's for them to do.
Solas managed to stay hidden as a 'unwashed apostate hobo' for however long the Inquisition took to fix things. I've seen estimates of 18 months to 2 years. That's a looooong time to be acting like something you're definitely not.
We see in Trespasser that he's not like that at all. But he still sold it so well his reveal at the end of the game shocked many people.
He's a nerd. An absolute nerd about the fade. Nerdery isn't solely the domain of autistics and ADHDers, but it’s a really common trait.
He's stand-offish.
Many autists and ADHDers are rather stand-offish with people for a variety of reasons.
1) We've been hurt so many times because of people refusing to do half the work of communicating with us. (Trust me, autistics and ADHDers are trying ALL THE TIME to communicate with neurotypicals. Y'all could pick up your part of things, y'know?)
2) We've been rejected so often for a genetic condition(s) we can't change. But accommodations for us, which are usually pretty simple and often help neurotypical people too, are considered 'too much'. There's something called RSD that most, if not all, autistic and ADHD folks experience. Rejection Sensitivity Disorder is a bitch kitty and there's no dealing with it well. It hurts.
3) We're often stand-offish while we try to figure out whatever social rules exist in that space/time. We often warm up when we know (or think we know) the rules. Or once we get to know people.
4) Solas is often alone, he's rarely pictured as being with anyone else other than Cole and the Inquisitor. NDs often end up either pushed to the edge of the crowd, or we choose to stay distant as a preventative measure so we aren't rejected.
Food sensitivities: Solas utterly loathes tea. There's a whole cutscene about it. (Fun fact, Solas doesn't like tea because Weekes doesn't.) But that extreme reaction to a relatively innocuous drink is a classic example of a food sensitivity. Most autistics and ADHDers have food or texture sensitivities or both. I can't abide raw tomatoes, and I'll get the urge to cry if I touch corduroy fabric.
Sensitivities can really be anything, but if you know someone who has them, please understand we're not trying to be difficult or to ask for extra attention or to make trouble. The modern world is frankly hell for most autistics and many ADHDers. Brain scans of us when we’re exposed to our sensitivities show that they actually are causing us physical pain. Pain centres in the brain light up like a Yule tree.
Solas is quiet, until he's not. Then he'll talk your ear off. This is pretty common for many of us too.
Solas and the fade. Special interest, anyone?
Special interests: Most autistics and ADHDers have Special interests. It's something that can utterly enthrall us. We tend to want to learn everything we possibly can about the subject we're fascinated with. And we love to share that information. In something called 'infodumping' we're trying to connect with other people. It's one of the ways many of us say we care about someone. By sharing our favourite things. We're also deeply penalized for something we can't change, there, too.
We deeply enjoy the thing and want to share our enjoyment with people we like/love. This can utterly backfire on us, but it doesn't change the urge to share. Often until our audience is giving us the 'dead fish face'. It's where the person's eyes are a little glazed over and they look a bit concussed. Anyone who has ever taught a class of students or is a parent or child caretaker, or is autistic/ADHD knows the look I'm talking about.
I'll stop blabbing for now, but those are most of the reasons I heavily code Solas as autistic/ADHD/mentally ill. Or, in another word. Neurodivergent.
Thanks for reading! If you have the wherewithal I'm a disabled mom of two disabled kids and a tip would help more than you can probably understand. Another way to help is to become a patron. My work of words is my only income and we live well under the poverty line. Like a lot of other neurodivergent people do.

Lee Bodecker Blurb
So......I've been talking about Lee a lot with @bucknastysbabe which of course means I pooped out something kind of horny. Imagine he and Florence get a nasty divorce at some, feel how plausible that is, then come back to this. Also kind of some kink discovery but Lee is such a good vessel for feedism yknow
Lee had a routine. He got off patrol, drove forty minutes out to the cabin on the far side of the county, and ate a somewhat miserable dinner while ‘I’ve Got a Secret’ or ‘The Price is Right’ droned on in front of him, driving the stale silence into the corners for a little bit.
Sometimes he stopped at the diner in Meade for food that was more salt and bacon grease than real ingredients, ordered in a quantity that made the teenage girl working the register raise her eyebrows; sometimes he exercised the full extent of his cooking skills and put a TV dinner in the oven. Either way, he parked his ass on the sofa, let the sound of the television fill his head and ate his dinner in a scene that would not be out of place in the 1963 edition of ‘Pathetic Divorcees 12 Month Calendar’.
Most nights, in an astounding display of disregard for personal dignity, Lee jerked off after eating. Sometimes he focused on the television and let Betsy Palmer float into his imagination, leaving the panel behind to show Lee what was under her tight little skirt. Other times he thought of his ex-wife, saw her chocolate dark hair and recalled the feeling of her breasts in his hands, how she’d tip her head back with pitchy moans when their sex was good. The only downside was that that usually led him into thinking about how nights like that had dwindled as he spent more time working-because to Lee, being on patrol or filing paperwork or meeting with Leroy all fell under the umbrella of ‘work’, at least for his purposes-how, coming up on the day Florence had served him the divorce papers, even their coupling became cold and distant and quiet, usually ending in yelling or tears if not both.
Thinking about that made Lee feel like shit.
The masturbation fodder Lee liked the best, though-or maybe just what he felt the least amount of guilt over-was the feeling of his own gut, packed with fatty diner food or ice cream and Nabisco cookies, skin warm from the stretch and stomach slightly aching as it tried churn through everything inside. He preferred not to dwell on why that feeling got him so absurdly hard-why palming his swollen belly made his cock leak like an old faucet.
In any case, masturbation was the third part of Lee’s routine. The fourth part was really playing the washed up cop and passing out under the fog of a full stomach and an orgasm. At a different time he would’ve polished off the image with a couple of beers, something to add to both the haze in his mind and the bloat in his stomach, but. Well. He was trying, as pathetic as it sounded.
As pathetic as ‘trying’ seemed to be, seeing as he still ended up conked out on the sofa, television illuminating how his undershirt was slowly creeping up over the curve of his gut like some slovenly sitcom husband. Except, that is, for the nights when Lee had the post-nut wherewithal and motivation to actually get into bed. It was actually a little bit sad how quickly he’d adjusted to sleeping alone. There was something almost reassuring about getting into a cold bed, as opposed to one warmed by a body that he knew has been waiting for hours; there was no one to disappoint or fight with or lie to in a cold bed, although Lee had done all three quite liberally throughout his marriage and didn’t feel so much guilt that he’d take them back, given the opportunity. He certainly wouldn’t give up what they’d gotten him…but it still felt safer to be alone.
Besides, the warmth and weight of his packed gut was a close enough substitute for the comfort of a woman, the grip of his own callused fist a workable approximation of the tight, wet heat of a cunt. Shocking as it may be, there wasn’t a line of women out the front door of the creaky old cabin with one working sink and raccoons in the attic-but even those traits were probably a better draw than Lee himself.
It didn’t matter. He was just alright by himself-it seemed like exactly the way he was meant to be.

Lockwood & co 5-8
part one, and with the colours same rules apply. link to my thoughts/ reactions to the first two books
episode 5: not to repeat myself but i want a set tour so bad
"nothing we can't handle together" Lockwood is great
I love Lockwood's little recoil when Lucy tells him "to make an effort"
roleplay version 2. I love the little movements on Lockwoods face when he saw Danny's body. missing scene (sort of) does Barnes ever find out who the body is? and that Danny was someone Lockwood knew?
talking about Flo and then meeting her at night. inbetween: what was happening? what were they doing?
the way "her" was said and Lockwood yelling "run"
book quote "Flo Bones annoyed me" came through loud and clear. I love Lockwood's face watching Flo and Lucy bicker.
Sugar count: 6/7 I think
I love Flo noting the buttered toast exchange (makes what she says later on so much better.) random note: what's on the board
I actually really like the design for Joplins flat and this conversations with her
"incase anyone misses me. unlikely..." poor George
missing scene: they should have had a Winkman thug killed by the mirror which was partially why they wanted to get rid of it so quickly
love breaking and entering, and there being so many things in the warehouse
scene: I hope Leo gets to be a little shit like he is in the book (though i do love Lockwood and Lucy are so sweet when talking to him)... George is not doing well is he? (so glad they showed us this)
Poor Lockwood but he is so funny talking to Winkman
Lucy: "my friend is really hurting"
Winkman "is she a friend? is she family?" good questions the answer is yes and more
still don't know why Lockwood poured the brown bottle onto the floor. Love this small confrontation between Lockwood and Lucy and poor George was so worried about them.
I love this bit with Carver final words being "come with me" is so eerie
episode 6
such a ritual to prevent ghosts (the salt and light is pretty)
again Barnes cares for them in his own way. I love how nervous Lockwood was watching Lucy think before answering Barnes. and I love the little insights we get into how Barnes works and his thoughts on them as a trio.
I love Lockwood and George showing their anxiety waiting for Lucy then going after her (random thought chalk would be great make arrows on the ground or wall showing which way she went)
should have been added: the boneglass ghosts asking for their bones back. It would have added to the emotional moment of freeing them at the end.
the lockwood slide hand hold I love the umbrella stand of swords
hello Flo. I love this moment between Lockwood and Flo the shared history, the history of the house still being present and her talking about Lucy. Also George calling Lockwood "Locky" and him being all smiley at George and Flo getting along to him going "only one person in the world can call me Locky"
also I think there is a piano in the background and I need someone to play it (go tomorrow from Hill House specifically no idea why but you know)
I love the bit with Kipps honestly. And how emotional they made the gift of the necklace (in the book it was like a paragraph) and him fishing for what's on her mind after seeing the talk with Kipps.
just noticed the map George draws has Lockwood written on the other side
the relic collumns are gorgeous and i love the delivery of "famous legacy" so much. this chat is so funny
I get the impression that they changed Penelope Fitters to daughter of Marissa instead of granddaughter is a good change (05/01/23 I say this as I have not read Empty Grave yet so it might change). and i love the "you feel safe with him. Mr Lockwood" and Lucy fiddles with the necklace.
I love the bit in the library them leaving evidence that someone was in there and it being spotted (and them fleeing the party is so pretty)
episode 7
random note: where did Lockwood put the book? and if it was in his pocket the entire time how did it not get soaked?
love the way they hide. and love Cutter.
"you were petrified at the thought of me leaving you" i always think of this entire scene and then think of Steve Crains quote about walls at the end of Hill House "I thought that wall kept the both of us safe, but walls don't work that way"
thought: someone had to get killed when covering the mirror right
I love the chat between Flo and George.
I love Lockwood's smile at Winkman as he steals the Sources.
Love the look between Lockwood and Cutter and the music and how how differently Lockwood and Lucy handle everything
the Golden Blade is so cool but such a jackass.
love the musical transition from "you, me and herons" to cruel world. and the shove
episode 8
Love the sopping wet look. and this bit between the two (imagine if Lucy told Lockwood what Penelope said to her at some point)
"don't give up on us... don't give up on me"
I love them reading the book together
Love the skull. and Lucy blaming herself and them leaving with "For George. For George"
I love this bit with Kipps
Joplin is so manipulative and plays on George's curiousity so well
love this chat with skull telling Lucy how best to use the boneglass
just reckless enough + completely necessary touch = love them
I love this "parade of Fittes agents" and the hype speech "lets bury them"
Not to let my resident evil brain rot come up but this bit with Winkman reminds me so much of Jack Baker it's insane
I love the fight with the thugs and searching the catacombs with commentary from the Skull
Love the reveal of Joplin being a bad guy
"scrubber girlfriend"
I love Lucy and looking into the boneglass with the skull
Poor Kipps is freaking out this entire time. Lockwood looking like how he feels
the frozen Lockwood bit in the boneglass visions could this be a reference to a certain walk he and Lucy go on in the Creeping Shadow
"you set them free" I really wish they kept the bone glass ghosts request.
I love Lockwood saving Lucy and George and collapsing to his knees
I love how long they made the ride to the surface feel
I love Barnes (George or Lucy should have got a pat on the shoulder maybe)
and the actor for Kipps did his scene talking about his Talent fading deserves praise as I love it so much
and I love Penelope Fittes and the golden blade
imagine: how Norrie's parents feel if they listen to Lucy's messages for her
"George turned out to be a bit of hero" love it
narration: when Lucy talks about herself it's a little weird and doesn't quite work as it should on rewatch
Love this end between them all. George getting excited over a mystery and Lockwood needing to recover and the shoving of donut into George's mouth to shut him
ending: I wish we saw a little of the inside of the room and just see the look on their faces as they see what lays inside.
random thoughts that didn't fit anywhere else they could have had Lockwoods sunglasses and could have worked in the toy mobile scene not in this season but maybe future seasons (you know if we had any)

fic writer twenty questions
tagged by @lokibuswrites :) this was fun to do to take a break from editing lol
-
1. how many works do you have on ao3? for this pseud 18, in total across pseuds about 100+
2. what's your total ao3 word count? again for this pseud 118,850, across pseuds is like? around 500k
3. what fandoms do you write for? presently i only really write for the cod fandom, though sometimes i dabble in oc works. i've written for marvel + iasip + IT before though. and one fic for umbrella academy lol
4. top five fics by kudos (just doing this for ghcst for most of the next questions because i am too lazy to go digging lmao) - riff — ghost h/c - herbs, honey, and your favourite flowers — dragon shifter!ghost - the wrong kind of contractor — and they were roommates - clear softness in our hymn — wingfic - grain — temporary soap mcd
5. do you respond to comments? yes!! or i try my best to. sometimes i forget or procrastinate even though i enjoy responding. but then again i do that for a lot of other things too
6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? genuinely i do not have an answer for this being that i am a primarily fluff/happy ending writer. i've written mcd drabbles before but i'm not counting those since they aren't on ao3 nor are they full fics
7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? this is also a difficult question for the same reasoning but i think maple taffy is one of the happiest
8. do you get hate on fics? no not typically. i think i've gotten hate one (1) time in 10+ years of writing fanfic
9. do you write smut? occasionally but it's not my strong suit so i don't do it often
10. craziest crossover? maybe plea for warmth? whenever I write an AU/"crossover" it's never really a crossover but that one actually has hunger games characters within it so. i guess that's the closest thing
11. have you ever had a fic stolen? not that i am aware of. i hope not
12. have you ever had a fic translated? once for sure, but maybe twice—russian and spanish respectively. i've wanted to translate my own fics into french before but i'm too lazy lol. made me so happy that anyone liked my fic so much that they'd want to take the time to translate it
13. have you ever co-written a fic before? yes!! only once that actually got posted, but i'm currently working on another now :)
14. all time favourite ship? honestly not sure! but tbh ghoap is pretty high up on my list
15. what's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will? i don't want to talk about it
16. what are your writing strengths? not to be annoying but i honestly don't know. i like to think i'm decent enough at most things but i don't know if i've ever had a stand-out trait in my writing abilities. maybe dialogue. sometimes
17. what are your writing weaknesses? pacing is my worst enemy because i always just want to get to a scene or an ending as soon as possible even if that's not the goal. i physically cannot write slow burn
18. thoughts on dialogue in another language? maybe i'm biased because i study and speak multiple languages but i always love seeing other languages incorporated into dialogue—to an extent, anyway. it's definitely something that has to be balanced like just about anything else
19. first fandom you wrote in? too embarrassed to tell the truth so we're just gonna go with marvel. technically still one of the first
20. favourite fic you've written? for this pseud/fandom, probably pine, sea salt, and the taste of cherry cordial. grishaverse has my heart <3

Hey, I love your page and it's honestly the reason i started analyzing re4remake, anyway I was reading about the don quixote because its mentioned in the re4r so much and i tried looking for you mentioning this but couldn't find anything so i'll just ask about.
So in the scene where luis and leon are about to give find ashley (in the mines), Luis calls Ashley "prinsess dulcinea" right after leon told him that Ashley was the priority, and in modern spanish being called dulcinea means "To this day, a reference to someone as one's "Dulcinea" implies idealistic devotion and love for her." (source is wikipedia but it citates oxfordord reference but it's behind a paywall so I can't confirm it, so take it with a grain of salt, the wikipedia page is dulcenia if you're curious). But at least i interpreted the scene as Luis playing a joke into Leon' devotion to protecting Ashley and/or like playfully trying to joke that Leon likes Ashley.
What do you think? is this something the writers could've been aware of and intentionally put there or am i just reaching for something that's not there?(btw if you covered this then feel free to ignore)
well dulcinea was a character in the story of don quixote. she also wasn't real. like, don quixote made her up. but she was the justification for all of his (mis)adventures. anything he did, he did because he had to rescue dulcinea -- you know, the dulcinea that he just made up and isn't real.
but it makes sense for ashley to be the dulcinea in luis's version of the story that he's telling, because she is actually the princess needing to be rescued.
unfortunately, in this version of events, luis is don quixote -- not leon -- which would make ashley his love interest. LMAO
so i don't think there's much to look into there. the point of using don quixote in the context of luis was that don quixote was a delusional character who wanted to be a hero but in reality just fucked up the lives of everyone around him and then died before making amends. for luis to constantly be comparing himself to don quixote says a lot about his self-esteem and how he viewed his time working at umbrella. references to leon as sancho and ashley as dulcinea are just window dressing to reinforce luis's own role in the story.

Friends and Family #03
“This is nice,” Maglor said, stretched out on a beach towel, as his dripping brother settled next to him, wet from running in the gentle waves with his adopted sons. He closed the novel he'd picked up at a second-hand store the day before.
Maedhros grunted, his mouth occupied by several bobby pins as he fixed his hair, recoiling the soaking braid atop his head. The whole point of pinning his hair up so tightly was to keep it out of the salt water, but he hadn’t expected Elros and Elrond to grab his hands and drag him down into a particularly large wave.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen them this happy,” Maglor continued, nodding to the boys splashing and paddling in the waves, their nearly shoulder-length hair hanging in loose, soaked clumps.
“They love it,” Maedhros said with a soft smile. He’d come up from that wave spitting sand and might have been irritated except he ended up with two armfuls of very excited peredhil. By the time he left the surf, he’d become much better at diving through waves.
They sat in silence for a minute, taking in the scene: seagulls cried overhead, keeping a sharp eye out for abandoned snacks; the twins played along the shore, a younger elf child coming over to join them; other families staked out their claim across the sand, leaving towels and umbrellas to mark their favored spots. The beach was both busy and soothing.
“We should do this more.” Maedhros decided, rinsing his mouth out with water from a bottle and then taking several drinks.
Maglor raised his eyebrows. Fëanor nearly had a fit when they announced that they’d be taking a few days off work during the week so they could do something with the boys during their school holiday. “Who’s going to tell father?”
His brother rolled his eyes in a way that would have had Fëanor pinching his ear if he were an elfling again. “He can take his doctor's advice and take up birdwatching,” He said dismissively.
As the eldest sons, they were privy to more details of their father's health than he appreciated.
Maglor snorted at the suggestion.
More seriously, Maedhros said, “Maybe just an occasional weekend, then.”
They watched the boys and their new friend join a group of older dwarves building an impressive sandcastle. Maglor smiled. “We really should.”
The sun arched across the clear blue sky. Maglor called Elros and Elrond back for lunch. They ate cold tuna salad sandwiches from the cooler on a blanket Maedhros spread on the sand so they could all sit together. Elros showed the adults the blue shell Elrond found in the tide, proudly telling them about the cool shells they found over the years on the coast further south. The younger twin hesitantly asked if he could make necklaces for them all from pieces of the shell when they went back to the city.
After lunch, the twins wanted to go back into the ocean.
“Not right after eating,” Maglor shook his head. “Wait thirty minutes.”
Elros looked like he might want to argue, but his brother grabbed his hand and demanded that he bury him under the sand so he could pretend to be a baby sea turtle.
Maedhros took off his shirt, arching his back and enjoying the warm sun on it. Their father really might have an aneurysm if he found out exactly how publicly immodest his sons got when he wasn’t there to frown at them for rolling up their pant legs. He repacked the cooler and sprawled out on the towel, stretching his long arms and legs and bumping into the other occupant. He grinned at his brother. “Join us this time,” He invited.
Maglor picked up his book and fingered the pages. “I'll get sand in my hair,” He said. He's done his hair up in a dark half bun, leaving a loose tail down his back.
“I'll braid it for you.” He said. “The rest of us need to wash tonight already.”
“Promise not to push me under?”
“I would never,” Maedhros laughed, recalling when, decades ago, they were teaching their younger brothers how to sail on a windy lake. Caranthir insisted that the flimsy life jackets couldn't possibly keep them safe in the waves, refusing to set foot on the light boat. When it became clear that he wouldn't trust the words of his brothers, Maedhros shoved Maglor off the edge, leaving him to flounder in the water until their three younger brothers boarded.
Maglor shuffled around so he faced away from Maedhros. “Go ahead and braid.”
The tall redhead sat up. He quickly undid the bun and set about dividing the other’s hair into four parts at the crown of his head.
They sat quietly while he worked, Maglor watching the other families.
A human woman with frizzled brown hair caught a child who looked about seven years old by the elbow. She wore a striped green and gray swimsuit with a white over-shirt and large sunglasses.
“Oh no you don’t, Elianor,” She admonished, pulling the girl back to the family’s towels and bins of beach toys. “You’re going to be red as a beat and peeling in the car tomorrow if you don’t put more sunscreen on.”
“Mom,” The girl complained as white ointment was slathered across her bare back and under the edges of her swimsuit.
“Do your face and ears,” The woman directed, squeezing more of the sunscreen out of a yellow bottle for her daughter before bending down to coat her legs.
Once everything was worked in and the white layer was exchanged for a slightly oily sheen, the child was released into the water. Once all the children were appropriately protected and freed, the woman popped open a beach chair and settled under an umbrella.
She looked over at Maglor as Maedhros began pinning the braid up like his own. “Some children never learn,” She said by way of explanation.
He said something in noncommittal agreement, a nagging thought starting to form in the back of his mind.
Her eyes flicked around their towels, blanket, and cooler. “Just the two of you then?” She asked.
“No,” Maglor said quickly. “The twins in red burying each other in the sand are ours.”
She looked out to where he pointed. “Cute,” She said in the way he was discovering many parents did when talking about other people’s kids. She leaned back in her chair and probably closed her eyes, though he couldn’t tell past the glasses.
Maedhros patted his head like he did when they were kids. “There you go, ready for the water.”
Maglor scooted around to face him again. “Don’t get my hair wet.”
Hands raised in surrender were his only response.
He looked down at his wristwatch. Twenty minutes still to go. That nagging feeling kept eating at him. He picked up the book again, opening to where he left off. He tried to read, but he couldn’t get back into the story.
All at once, he dropped the book and turned to Maedhros.
“We didn’t put sunscreen on them!”
“What?” The other asked, blinking as he came back from wherever the warmth sent him drifting off to.
“Elros and Elrond,” He said, looking over to where the boys were just a couple heads sticking out of the sand, several other kids having joined in on burying them. “They’re part human. They could get sunburns!”
He couldn’t believe he’d forgotten about it. He hadn’t packed sunscreen, he didn’t even think Maedhros or he had any at their homes. Such a simple, everyday thing for humans, and they’d completely forgotten about it. He dreaded to think about how painful the children’s skin would be tomorrow.
Maedhros frowned. “They’re part elf, too,” He reasoned. “Why should they get burned?”
“They might,” Maglor repeated with worry. “I should go buy some. Or maybe we should all leave so it doesn’t get any worse.”
Maedhros sighed. “It’ll be a thirty-minute drive each way. The damage is already done if it’s going to happen, so let’s not ruin the rest of the day. Besides,” He added. “They’ve clearly spent a lot of time in the water. I think they’d know if they need to worry about it.”
Personally, Maglor never thought it was too late to start mitigating damage, but his brother had made up his mind. He’d just have to deal with whatever came of it.
