[Good Morning Monster time! ...ah, shit, it's full of shrimp again. Well, more for Joe and Sally and Sally's sister (if she's in headspace?)
[Oh, sweet, there's a normal monster on the floor near it. Well, it should be good. It's Ultra Violet. A note reads "crabcrabcrab"]
Hell yeah. More shrimp.
...Speaking of, I managed to show Sally a picture of the crab I stole off the beach. She jumped, so I think it's her sister?

Could you do a scenario about Nemona, Penny and Arven with a real who has type null please? Maybe something about it transforming in Silvally?
YES NULL/SILVALLY TIME
I have one in Sword who I call "Bestie", and it's carried me through the Crown Tundra DLC. I want it in Violet so badly aaaa
Also this just reminded me of my fic that I wrote prior to Sun/Moon's release. Ya'll can give it a read if you so desire <3
That being said, this scenario will be like a sequel of sorts
Tumblr media
........
Revealing Type: Null--or "Nully" as you've affectionately called it--to your friends was something you were initially nervous about...
But today was finally the day.
Moving away from Alola to attend school here in Paldea was quite the stressful journey, especially for your masked companion who had never know any place besides stark white labs and sandy beaches.
People kept warning you about how dangerous it was, but you never listened...and now your bond with the mysterious normal type has never been stronger.
Ever since you rescued it from an Aether Foundation facility that exploded due to its rampage, it put its trust in you and loved you unconditionally.
Learning the truth behind that supposedly "good" organization and its leader broke your heart. Although nothing devastated you more than realizing Nully had been held captive there as both experiment and prisoner.
You've tried researching its species, checking for notes and hacking into secret files the foundation kept under lock and key--and you discovered that Type: Nulls were basically created as "tamer" versions of Arceus, even having memory discs similar to the plates manufactured. They were meant to kill the Ultra Beasts should they invade Alola.
Instead, they went on a rampage (of course, that's what happens when humans try replicating a god's powers) and were confined to masks and put into cryogenic stasis. The whole project was deemed a failure.
As tragic as it was...you were relieved to have found Nully when you did and get it away from that horrible place.
Even so the mask still made it feel absolutely miserable, but unfortunately you couldn't find any further information on how to remove it without causing your precious Pokémon serious injury. There were no visible clamps to unlock, pulling it off would only cause it great pain, and cutting seemed too risky.
The only benefit was that it made Nully immune to critical hits, but the cons definitely outweighed the pros.
Maybe one of your friends knew more about the Type: Null species, and so you decided to call them all over for a picnic if they had free time.
All you could do was pray that they didn't lose their cool and scare your companion.
That's the last thing either of you needed.
Arven was the first to arrive, with Mabosstiff at his heels as usual, but he stopped dead in his tracks upon seeing the bizarre-looking Pokémon standing by your side. You could tell he was trying not to look too worried, considering the poor thing was hiding behind you now.
Still, it's obvious that he didn't have the slightest clue what he was looking at, so you explained everything to him: where you found Nully, why it looked like a rejected Arceus, and the memory discs you kept in a small folder.
So far, you haven't figured out how to utilize them in-battle. But despite the space they took up in your bag, you refused to throw them away.
"Are you sure there isn't a slot for these somewhere on its mask?" He stared at one of the floppy discs, before glancing back up at Nully, squinting. "It looks like there should be one."
"We've been pals for nearly three years, Arven..I'm pretty sure I would've found the slot by now if there was one." Shaking your head, you took it from him, sighing. "My only option is to get that thing off. The slot's probably on its body somewhere."
"Right...maybe there's a stomach hatch or-"
"¡Mira! You were right, Penny! They do exist!!"
"Nemona, slow down!! They're not going anywhere!!"
Hearing the shouts of two certain ladies from afar, you and Arven looked to see both Nemona and Penny coming over the horizon. The student council president was dragging the poor girl by the arm, with her stumbling to keep up and not lose her glasses.
When they arrived, Penny was dazed and annoyed as she scowled at Nemona, tearing her arm free of her iron grasp. But her attention was quickly set on the peculiar Pokémon who was cowering behind you yet again.
"Wow...I..never thought I'd see one up close before.." Adjusting her glasses, she gazed at Nully with interest.
"You've heard about them before?" You asked.
"Back in Galar, I found some top-secret stuff about Macro Cosmos trying to make their own instances. They literally stole the blueprints from the Aether Foundation."
"...yikes." Nemona remarked, tilting her head as she tried getting a better look at Nully herself. "It seems shy. Maybe a battle will help it-!"
"No battles, at least not right now." You smiled apologetically, patting it on the head as you looked at each other. "I know you're nervous, Nully..but it's okay. They're nothing like the jerks back in Alola who used to pick on us. They're my friends. You can trust them, I promise."
Nodding its head, it relaxed its haunches as it cautiously stepped away from your side, gazing at the trio and seeing their smiles, too.
They weren't looks of pity.
They seemed genuinely thrilled to meet it.
It stood there for some time, taking in everything you've said to it and thinking about how far it's come since you rescued it that fateful day.
Somehow, it knew it was always meant to be your companion--from the very moment you held it as it cried in the Pokémon Center, reassuring it that it's not a monster, but a sweet creature worthy of love and care.
Ever since then, your friendship has grew...and now it feels stronger, willing to put its life on the line for you if need be. Even though most of its powers have been concealed, it didn't feel like some weak and helpless lab experiment.
Oh no.
It was far from that now.
Thanks to your bond, it felt unbelievably strong.
So much so that....the normal-type realized an extraordinary change was imminent.
And you were about to witness it.
"Look! Nully's glowing, [y/n]!" Nemona pointed, her eyes widening as your companion was basked in a familiar light. "Is it evolving???"
"Oh my god...I think so." You gasped, never realizing the possibility of it evolving, but you're now certain that friendship is what triggered it at last.
The most noticeable thing were the cracks that started appearing all over its helmet, pieces of what you assumed was indestructible alien material falling apart. Nully shook its head vigorously, trying to get rid of it as much as possible.
Then it turned its attention to a nearby boulder, letting out a cry before performing a move similar to a Headbutt, ramming into it and letting the rock shatter the helmet completely.
At last, it was free.
When the glow faded, you and your friends gazed in awe as Nully looked back at all of you.
With its mask finally gone, what lied underneath it was a beautiful creature made of both nature and machine, with a beaklike mouth that smiled proudly.
"Nully...?" You murmured, stepping closer.
"Ally." It chirped, walking up to greet you.
Tears began forming in your eyes as your grin widened. "I can't believe it...friendship was all it took to-"
Suddenly, your rotomphone decided to ruin the sweet moment by flying out of your pocket.
It displayed a new entry in your Pokedex, and you grabbed it to read what it had to say, while Arven, Penny, and Nemona checked their own phones.
"I see, you're Silvally now." You gazed back up at Null--Silvally, watching it bow its head respectfully. With a small laugh, you mimicked the gesture, before petting it lovingly as you sighed. "Wow..."
You noticed one of the metal bolts on its face open up like a CD player, indicating that something had to go in there-
"Wait.." Remembering the memory discs, you took one out and held it up. "Do you want me to use this?"
Silvally nodded, although before you could do anything, Arven interjected.
"Hold on, which memory is that?"
"The Dark Memory. It probably just changes its type, but I believe this represents all the pain Silvally had to endure while being trapped in that mask, not knowing what it did wrong or why people shunned it for simply existing." You placed a gentle hand under your companion's jaw. "But now I think it's ready to turn that painful memory into power. So let's see what happens.."
"Silllllv!"
Carefully inserting the disc into the open slot, you watched as it closed up. Then you stepped back, seeing the colors and spikes on its body turn smoky black.
Even its eyes changed, and when they opened they looked even more menacing than ever.
And they stared directly at you.
With a low growl, it crept closer to you, while your friends held back..tense and worried that the pokedex entries were correct: this wasn't something you could so easily control.
There was probably a very good reason for the mask-
Yet any hostility Silvally seemingly expressed disappeared, as it smiled and licked your cheek affectionately, causing you to laugh once more. "Hey, that tickles! C'mere you!"
Hugging its neck, you grinned as you received even more kisses, hearing it purr with happiness. You petted its feathery crest, relieved that it completely trusted you now.
"Wow..it's way cooler than Arceus!" Nemona laughed. "Do you think I can battle it-??"
Silvally just shot her a wary look, and she immediately fell silent, a nervous smile on her face. "Haha, you're right. Not yet. But I swear we're gonna have an epic battle one day!"
"Yeah, one day. But for now, I have something special for this big guy."
"Sill?"
You managed to regain its full attention with a simple yet supereffective move of your very own:
It's called "chin scritches", something that none of your other Pokémon could resist receiving.
The mask obviously made it difficult for Silvally to receive proper affection back then...and you vowed to find a way to break it so you can do just that.
Now it was free of that awful and heavy thing, having a brand new life to look forward to: battles, friendships with other Pokémon, and more.
Even better?
Your three closest friends in all of Paldea were here to witness its evolution--a sign that despite all the odds...your bond was unbreakable.

Mainline Pokémon Games Based on How Buggy They Are: A Thread
Red, Blue, & Yellow
Tumblr media
Pretty buggy. The Butterfree line set the stage for regional bugs and emotional trauma. Everybody loves Scyther. Inspired use of Cordyceps when designing the Parasect line. Kabuto and Kabutops should have been Bug to honor trilobites for founding Arthropoda. 8/10.
Gold, Silver, & Crystal
Tumblr media
Yes, we had Scyther, but what about second Scyther? Scizor, Heracross, and Shuckle are legends. Game Freak decided to invite arachnids (Spinarak and Ariados) to the party, truly redefining what it means to be buggy. 9/10.
Ruby, Sapphire, & Emerald
Tumblr media
This generation is loaded with bugs! Game Freak realized their mistake in not giving the Kabutops line Bug typing, making up for it with Anorith and Armaldo (who are based on Anomalocaris). They fumble the recovery, however, in not only depriving the Flygon line of Bug typing, but forever making them second fiddle to the Salamence line. The Beautifly, Dustox, and Ninjask lines introduce some interesting approaches to Bug-type evolution. Volbeat and Illumise are there. 7.8/10.
Diamond, Pearl, & Platinum
Tumblr media
DELELELELELEWHOOOOOOP! A smaller collection of bugs this gen, but a well-rounded one. Vespiquen slays. Scorpions get some love via Skorupi, Drapion, and Gliscor. Writing this post is making me realize that slugs, snails, and nudibranchs like the Magcargo and Gastrodon lines aren’t bugs. We grew up thinking snails were bugs, right? Anyway, Yanmega rules. 8/10.
Black, White, Black 2, White 2
Tumblr media
Game Freak’s magna opera. Truly the buggiest games there are. While you have to wait until Pinwheel Forest to encounter your first bugs, you’re rewarded upon arrival with Sewaddle and Venipede, the larvae of the Leavanny and Scolipede lines. From there, you encounter the Crustle, Galvantula, and Volcarona lines. Game Freak has some more fun with Bug evolutions, having Karrablast steal Shelmet’s armor as they evolve into Escavalier and Accelgor (inspired by the real-world interactions between the ground beetle family Carabidae and the gastropods they feed on). Durant is our first proper ant, and we get our first (and only . . . ) legendary / mythical Bug in Genesect. These games made Bug my favorite type. 10/10.
X & Y
Tumblr media
A big step down from the previous generation. This game hardly has any bugs. Do you like butterflies? You get a butterfly. Vivillon is a lovely butterfly that comes in all sorts of colors, but SURELY there are more bugs than that in France. 6/10.
Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon
Tumblr media
Giant isopods! Diving bell spiders! Giraffe stag beetles! A true return to form. While the native bugs of Alola are great, we are also introduced to the ultra beasts, two of which (Buzzwole and Pheromosa) are really cool bugs. It seems they were going for wasps and bee flies when designing the Naganadel and Ribombee lines, but they don’t really work for me. Faint blemishes on an otherwise buggy generation. 8.5/10.
Sword & Shield
Tumblr media
Centiskorch is the greatest Pokémon ever made. I have them tattooed on my arm. Blipbug is the worst Pokémon ever made. I see them in my nightmares. Interesting that they’re both Bug Pokémon, and that Game Freak really min-maxed with them. Fortunately, Blipbug evolves into Dottler and Orbeetle, who are great. Snom has a place in everyone’s heart, and Frosmoth is elegant as can be. 9.5/10.
Scarlet & Violet
Tumblr media
I love Rellor and Rabsca! I . . . don’t really love the rest! Iron Moth and Slither Wing are great, but they’re nepo babies. Tarountula and Nymble are nice, but Spidops and Lokix leave something to be desired. Orthworm is a a big worm. At the end of the day, these games would be alright if they weren’t so wonkily coded and glitchy. Wish there was a better word for that. 7/10.

Alright, so bear with me.
Humans have three cone cells in our eyes that are how we perceive color in the world. I often think red, green, and blue, but apparently people studying them use Long, Medium, and Short to be unambiguous (just for one example, if you activate M really strongly and not L or S, the color people report seeing is yellow-green). Each type activates at different strengths to different wavelengths of light. Here's a lovely graphic from Wikipedia showing response levels of each cone type to different wavelengths:
Tumblr media
So you can see that if some light activates L some, but not M, we'll perceive deep red, activates them both a bit, we see orange or yellow, depending on the specific amount.
It's interesting that some effect (a specific mix of pigments, or some structural coloration) could be producing some mostly 495nm light, or a blend of some slightly higher and slightly lower wavelengths, and either way we see cyan. (And a good thing, too, otherwise our display technology would be extremely unconvincing.)
Of course, then there's what happens when we get activation of L and S at once, but not M, our eye-brain systems don't infer "yellow-green", because green is specifically what's missing from there: we generate magenta, a non-spectral color. (And when all three activate we get white, of course.)
I found myself thinking about birds, with their four cones.
Tumblr media
They're more evenly spaced too, the bastards. (These bastards are specifically finches but I'm under the impression that most birds are similar.)
Tumblr media
(Of course, "violet" actually means ultra-violet here. Look at the graphic, their UV cone stops responding where our S cone starts. I would edit this, but spent like half an hour discovering that tumblr doesn't support table under html or code/"preserve formatting" under markdown anymore; so you get a screencap of what I sent on discord.)
Birds could see "vio-green" (accepting name suggestions) as a color region as distinct from blue/indigo as green is from purple/magenta.
Look at that. Two whole ass independent spectral color divisions we don't have, and six non-spectral inferences. Eight whole categories of visual perception more than us. Decadent.
The heart quails to imagine what the 16 color receptors of a mantis shrimp would create. I mean, okay, it doesn't because we've studied their eyes and brains and they don't blend colors the way we do, smooshing them down to a much simpler set of perceptions.
But imagine if we rebuilt our eyes and brains for it! Color indicates chemistry, with that level of subtle blending of characteristics, would vision become like tasting everything we look at?
Please pet the bear that is with me on your way out.

So I had this Iskeai idea for pokemon from a concept I saw and that's the reader that wants to stay away from everyone and is just trying to find a way home, but keeps getting wrapped up with other major characters and pokemon that keep following them and all the reader wants is to find a way home.
( Also what region would you want to write this for, Unova, Galar, Paldea, or any of tge other regions)
Thank you!!!
With Pokemon, I honestly don't know what sort of concept I'd do, or if I'd even do one since there are so many games and it can get kinda confusing.
However for future requests, I know most of the stories for all the mainline games, however here are the games I have actually played:
Pokemon Heart Gold
Pokemon Black
Pokemon Y
Pokemon Moon
Pokemon Ultra Moon
Pokemon Shield
Pokemon Shining Pearl
Pokemon Legends Arceus
Pokemon Violet
Pokemon Let's Go Eevee
You can request for most of the game, just keep in mind that these are the ones I've actually played.

Ultra Violet did not get scared. The word wasn’t in her vocabulary. When her sister screamed and cried and tattled to mom about the horror movie Ultra Violet had chosen, she was dry eyed and annoyed they couldn’t handle something as mild as SAW. She carried herself as a woman who didn’t fear anything. She was the one people were afraid of, not the other way around, and that’s how she liked it.
She’s not thinking about this as she races down the back alley, so certain in her steadfast nature that the strange barely suppressed panic that bubbled up her chest had been easily dismissed. She’d faced the ninja plenty of times before, and sure Zane may be her most annoying foe to face, there was no reason for the unease she’d felt when he stood across from her. He didn't act any different than the last time they’d battled. When she turned tail and ran, it was because she was out numbered. She wasn’t scared. She wasn’t following the warning bells ringing in the back of her head when brilliant blue eyes zeroed in on her like a hawk catching sight of a mouse. It was Zane, there was no reason to be afraid.
She turns a corner and comes to a brick wall, a dead end. Despite how calm and unafraid she definitely was, her heart rate jumped and her palms began to sweat. She whipped around, looking for another escape route- a ladder access to the fire escape, up to the roof? A sewer drain cover she could slip in? Anything, please-
Zane rounds the corner in a jog, coming to a stop when he realizes she's trapped.
She’s trapped.
Like an insect pinned to a board. He’s scrutinizing her just the same, but there’s something about his expression- about the way he carries himself that’s just- just-
Scary.
“Fine,” She tries to snarl, but her voice shakes, “You caught me. Just take me back to Kryptarium.” She’s trying to hold what little ground she has, preserving her dignity.
He takes a step forward and she immediately takes a step back, adrenaline flooding her veins. She can’t run anymore, so there goes flight. All that's left is to fight, and shes overcome with a strange certainty that she won’t win this one.
He stills, standing in the only spot the neon sign lights don't reach.
“Well, come on. Arrest me!” Are her hands shaking? Is her heartbeat loud enough that he can hear it?
The air thins, each breath harder to draw. She’s zeroed in on him, eyes so wide the whites are visible all around her iris. He takes another step forward, then another, steadily moving towards her. She’s given up any pretense of bravery, shoving herself back against the unforgiving brick wall behind her, scuttling into the corner to put any distance she can between them. His presence is massive in the back alley, a black hole that seems to swallow up all light until it is just her and him suspended in darkness.
He stops right in front of her, his eyes are pinpricks of electric blue that spear right through her head, pinning her in place.  Her breath fogs in front of her, her hands are shaking from a mix of fear and cold.
“What do you want from me?” She breathes, his overwhelming presence stealing her voice.
His expression changes minutely, and she's instantly aware she’s going to die. He’s going to kill her. It’s right there, in his eyes- the way he’d been examining her before, he was trying to think of a reason to spare her. He weighed her soul and found it wanting. The decision, the choice he made to end her life, holds no weight to him. He almost looks bored as he raises his hand, fingers misting with flecks of snow and frost.
“Zane?” A voice calls, and his hand stills for a long moment before it aborts its movement completely.
“Here!” He calls, and it’s the first word she’s heard him say this whole time. His voice is light and casual, jarring in comparison to the detached cold of his eyes. Eyes that want her wiped off the face of Ninjago. “I have located Ultra Violet.”
“Is she dead?” She recognizes Lloyd's voice, coming closer. The question isn't accusatory, but it's said so casually that Ultra Violet rapidly begins to go through the roster of her Fellow Kryptarium inmates in her head, wondering if the ones who she hadn’t seen in a while had been…
Zane tips his head, eyes still fixed on her. His hand twitches. “Not yet.”
“Let’s keep it that way.” Lloyd says, rounding the corner.
They escort her back to prison.
She doesn't watch scary movies for a long time.

Will you ever stop breaking my heart ,all over and over again...
EPISODE 7
Ep6 Misako has an unexpected guest, Garmadon thinks he has found a solution to end the rebels,in the lead with Lloyd.
"Rule with me, and Lloyd can be there if he listens."
When she heard those words, Misako lowered her head in disbelief and closed her eyes.
'Think,' she commanded herself.
'Don't let your emotions take over, maybe you can help Lloyd.'
"Misako?" Garmadon quietly asked and caught her chin, gently lifting her head so their eyes met.
They looked at each other for a few seconds, and then something sparked in Garmadon's eyes.
He lowered his head slightly and tried to kiss her, but she pushed him away with less desire than shehad wanted.
"I..." Garmadon started, moving away from her.
"I'm sorry." He almost started to apologize.
Obviously, he was embarrassed by that outpouring of weakness.
"You are a monster," Misako coldly stated.
"I am," Garmadon coldly acknowledged.
"Lloyd..."Misako sobbed.
Suddenly, she couldn't control her emotions. She worried too much about their son.
She hated herself for those moments of weakness.
"You will hurt him," she said desperately through tears.
"No!" Garmadon reflexively shouted.
"You know you will." Misako gave him a cold stare.
She wasn't crying anymore, but tears that had fallen continued to flow down her face.
"Go!" Garmadon suddenly yelled. "I want to be alone!"
"Where should I go?" Misako angrily shouted and showed him her tied hands.
"You forget that I am your prisoner?" She asked in a quiet but sharp and accusatory voice.
"No," Garmadon coldly and angrily said.
"I don't forget."
He then approached her, making her initially move back.
He grabbed her by the upper arm, not roughly to her surprise, and without a word, led her into a room.
"Rest a bit," he said coldly and turned to leave.
"Garmadon?" Misako stopped him.
"What is it?" He asked in a deep voice.
"Are you really ready to harm Lloyd?" Her voice was vulnerable.
Garmadon didn't answer her, just watched her.
"Thank yourself for being tied up," he said, gently wiping the tears from her face with his hand.
"If it were up to me, it would never be this way."
"Whatever," he began to say. "Maybe later I'll send someone to bring you a blanket."
"Better don't," Misako said with a cold and angry voice.
"Fine then," Garmadon indifferently shrugged.
"As you wish." Saying that, he left her alone, locked in the room.
~~~~~
"I have to admit, it's a good plan," Harumi noticed with surprise. "Even smart."
"Hey!" Ultra Violet objected. "Who are you..."
"You won't find anything in my memory," Pixal interrupted their argument.
"I don't know where Lloyd, Nya, and the Elemental Masters are."
"Doesn't matter," Ultra Violet said, plugging in a cable into Pixal. "It'll be fun."
"Let me go!" Pixal screamed as she slowly lost consciousness.
~~~~~
"This is not good," Misako said to herself, sitting in the corner of the room.
The room was mostly dark with small streams of light breaking through, she didn't know where from.
The room was also cold.
For a moment, she regretted not accepting the offer for a blanket, but then scolded herself.
"You have to stay strong," she motivated herself. "I hooe that Lloyd, Nya, and the others are safe."
"And Pixal," Misako yelled and suddenly stood up. "I hope she's okay."
She wanted it with all her might, even though the feeling inside her said otherwise.
She sat back in the corner of the room and tried to rest a little.
She couldn't stop thinking about Lloyd and Pixal, completely unaware of what Pixal was doing several floors below. When suddenly...
"What is that?" Misako asked.
"Who's there?" she asked softly and stood up quietly.
Maybe some animal.
"Misako?" a voice said, and she was left breathless.
A ghost appeared in front of her.
"Garmadon.." Misako spoke in a weak voice.
"Garmadon, is that realy you?"
"Not yet," Sensei Garmadon shook his head.
"You have to help me regain control of myself."
~~~~~
"I am a monster," Garmadon repeated to himself as he walked through the rooms.
"I am..." He couldn't control himself.
Flashbacks, unclear flashbacks that appeared in his head.
"What if I don't want to be a monster?" He asked himself.
"No!" he shouted and hit the nearest object with his powers.
"She and Lloyd occupy my thoughts too much. It doesn't matter, I'll deal with her once I save Ninjago."
"My Emperor," a voice called from the hallway.
"Yes?" Garmadon turned.
"I think we've found a way to defeat your, um, this green ninja," Harumi told him.
"Really?" Garmadon sweetly smiled.
"Start preparing. I want this madness to end as soon as possible."
"I Don't Know..."
Description: Velvet and Orchid reunite for the first time since graduation. And with Velvet, nothing good lasts forever.
Characters: Velvet, Orchid, Veneer
Pairings: Velvet x Orchid
Warnings: Angst. Mild sexual implications, though nothing is explicitly described. Swearing. Internalized homophobia (kinda)
Authors Note: Hi everyone, I'm alive, yippee. Been super busy with uni and life. But expect more activity from me in the upcoming weeks. As usual, feel free to give feedback and enjoy.
Velvet curled beside the purple haired Rageon, her head resting on the others chest, reveling in the way it would rise and fall with each slow even breath. Under the messy sheets of Velvet's bed, their limbs were tangled comfortably, neither ready to let the other go yet. Velvet's arms were wrapped loosely around Orchid's waist, while Orchid rested one hand on the idols hip, the other playing with a lock of green hair.
This is so nice. Velvet thought. But it never should have happened...not like this.
Velvet opened her eyes to peer at the red lipstick stains that littered across the purples Rageons neck and chest. She trailed a perfectly manicured finger against one of the marks, smudging it. In response, Orchid hugged her tighter, burying her face into Velvet's hair.
This had started with a kiss about 6 years ago, in their final year of high school.
Orchid had always had a crush on Velvet, and Velvet certainly thought there was...something about that purple haired Rageon with the nerdy glasses. Of course, admitting that would be social suicide. She was the popular girl, the one that all the girls wanted to be and all the boys wanted to have. And Orchid was just...Orchid, a girl who was just average in every way possible.
But a kiss changed all of that.
Why she kissed Orchid back then, she'll never know, and the exact details of that night had been mostly lost to time. But she remembered it was after their graduation ceremony, she remembered sneaking off into one of the hallways outside the gym that were off limits to students. She remembered finding Orchid lurking around her locker, perhaps being all sentimental or something. She remembered striking up a chat with the purple Rageon, and then they kissed.
Velvet conveniently forgotten who initiated the kiss first, but she'd rather she not know at all.
That first kiss was short and soft, sweet. Despite all the guys Velvet had kissed over the years, it was like it was her first kiss all over again. Kissing Orchid felt different somehow, like a switch had been flipped, it made her knees weak and her heart thrum heavy against her chest, made her dizzy.
When they pulled apart, it was like she saw Orchid for the first time, truly saw her, she looked into her violet eyes and saw a new reflection of herself staring back.
It scared her.
So she ran away.
She had moved on since then, she and her brother deciding to leave their old lives behind and focus on their careers and rise to fame. She had sworn off of any romantic relationship since, believing that it would weigh her down on her way to success. Veneer thought differently, he fell in and out of relationship one after the other. Velvet brought it up to him once, warning him that could bring unwanted drama in their lives. He simply said it'll bring a special kind of spice to their music. Velvet couldn't argue with that.
Everything was going perfectly, Velvet and Veneer has grown a mass following with their enchanting voices and captivating performances. Every year they topped the charts and won many awards over the years.
Until she met Orchid after one of her performances.
Every five years, the twins hold an ultra exclusive raffle for their fans as a way of celebrating the anniversary of their first Life Award. Fans place their names down for a chance to meet their idols, be given exclusive merch for free and selfies with either twin. Only ten names will be selected and fans can only apply their names once. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity so many Rageons across the Mountain flocked in droves for the chance to even get a sniff of the twins.
So the fact Orchid was one of the lucky few to be randomly selected was pure luck.
Or perhaps fate.
A cruel fate.
It wasn't the first time someone from high school wanted to reunite with their fellow classmate now turned famous celebrity. Ever since she and her brother topped the charts, they've received dm's on all of their social from past friends and classmates expressing interest in reconnecting. Both twins would leave them on read.
Velvet wanted nothing to do with them. Veneer had better friends now.
But when she was faced with Orchid, many conflicting feeling churned in her gut. She wanted to throw her arms around Orchid's shoulders, tell her how much she missed her and ask her how she's been. But that would imply that they were ever close in the first place.
She also wanted to pretend like she didn't the person in front of her and act dumb when Orchid would evidently mention they went to the same school. But that didn't feel right either.
It didn't help that Orchid looked so...different. She was taller for a start, and she wore clothes and actually suited her figure, before she would wear only oversized t-shirt or hoodies, like she was trying to hide herself from everyone. Speaking of her figure, it was clear that Orchid hit the gym at some point, no longer was she skinny and scrawny, as evidenced by her toned biceps and torso.
Her hair was slightly longer too, what was once a cute little bob haircut was now tied into a short ponytail. Her ears were pierced with small diamond studs as well as a simple silver brow piercing.
She looked hot.
That brought up some unwanted feeling within Velvet.
"Oh my god, Orchid? Is that really you?"
Orchid chuckled and rubbed her arm nervously, her voice was deeper now too. "Yeah it's the hair isn't?"
A small laugh bubbled with Velvets chest, she couldn't help herself. She approached the purple haired Rageon, her arms open in invitation, to which Orchid happily accepted. "You look amazing."
Orchid patted her lightly on the shoulder as they parted, "You're not bad yourself."
Velvet giggled at her charisma and pulled a pen out of her pocket, "What do you want be to sign?" She smirked slyly as she cheekily added, "...Nerd."
Orchid quirked a brow at the pop star in return, lifting two bags worth of merch. "How much time you got?"
During the hour they had together, between Orchid passing a shirt, album or poster and Velvet signing her signature on each item, the two engaged in deep conversation as though they'd been friends for years. Velvet would ask what she's been doing with her life, what region of Mount Rageous she lives in, if she has any cats, etc. And Orchid would ask her what it's like being famous, what are the stresses she has to deal with daily and how Veneer's been doing.
They bantered back and forth and laughed so hard at times Velvet felt like her stomach was going to slip out her mouth. It felt great, to laugh so genuinely for once. But there was that nagging voice in the back of her head. The one that kept repeating itself like a broken record. This is Orchid, the one and only, this was the girl that used to sit in the back of the classroom, the girl that was never asked out to any school dance, the girl who arrived to school by herself and left school by herself. The girl she kissed all those years ago.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
Both girls jumped when three loud knocks rapped on the door, signaling the end of their meet and greet. "Times up!" The gruff voice of the security guard echoed on the other side of the door.
"Just a minute!" Velvet replied, helping Orchid put her stuff into her bags. "Sorry. I wish we had more time."
Orchid gave a weak, thin lipped smile. "It's ok Vels. It was nice catching up with you. See ya."
Orchid clutched her bags as she turned towards the door to leave, if she goes through that door it would likely be that last time they could ever speak like this. The thought alone made Velvet want to throw up, and before she could even stop herself, words started spilling out of her mouth.
"Orchid wait!"
Orchid's hand hovered over the doorknob, her heard turned over her shoulder to peer at the pop star. Velvet could have sworn there was a flicker of hope in her violet eyes.
"Uhmm..." Shit. What was she supposed to say? She didn't think any of this through. Well she can't back away now. "Veneer won't be home tonight. He usually goes out nightclubbing after a big performance. Probably won't be back until later tomorrow morning."
She paused and inhaled deeply, attempting to calm her nerves. Why was she so nervous? "I was wondering if you'd...like to come over? Y'know, so we can talk more."
Orchid's face went visibly red, and she could help but let out a nervous, flustered chuckle. "O-oh my...one of the greatest pop idols in all of Mount Rageous wants ME to come over to her place. Somebody pinch me. Are you sure? What if the press see us and start some scandalous rumor?"
Velvet clicked her tongue, her nerves easing off slightly. "Ugh, don't worry about it. The tabloids make shit up about me and Ven ever other week. I'm used to it."
The popstar approached the purple Rageon, pulling out her phone. "What's your number?"
The rest of the night had been a real slog to get through. Velvet was exhausted after the meet and greet and was ready to call a limousine to take her home. Veneer was not fazed in the slightest and told Velvet he'd going out tonight, as per usual.
Now she waited for Orchid to arrive at her place. She had sent an message to Orchid with the address to her and her brothers mansion about five minutes ago. Orchid had replied with a short:
"Ok, thanks. See u soon."
While waiting, Velvet decided to get dressed into a pair of comfy silk pyjamas, the letter V embroidered intricately near the strap of her silk tank top. She stood in front of the mirror, deciding to touch up her make up. A part of her wanted to wash it off as she would normally with her routine, but tonight was different, a part of her wanted to impress Orchid.
DING DONG
Shit!
Tossing her red lipstick aside and fixing up her hair quickly, she bolted down the stairs and towards the front door. Orchid was waiting their patiently, a black jacket slung over her shoulders.
"This place is sick Vels. But don't you think a marble fountain of you and Veneer in your front lawn is a bit much?" Orchid teased.
Velvet smirked back and dramatically placed a hand to her chest with a faux gasp of offence, "A bit much you say?! Do YOU have a marble fountain in your front yard to compare it to?"
"Touché"
The moment Orchid stepped foot into her home, the rest of the night's events became nothing but a blur. One minute they were on the couch with a cup of coffee in their hands, the wide flat screen TV turned on for background noise. Then suddenly, somehow, things got intimate, and like a magnet, Velvet felt a pull that made her want to be closer to Orchid, in every way possible. Just like she had all those years ago, she pressed her lips against Orchid's.
At no point before, during, or after the performance did Velvet take any illicit substances, but boy did she feel like she was on drugs. It only made the pull stronger and before she knew it, both women were stumbling up the stairs towards Velvet's bedroom.
It was now past 12am and Velvet wished she had never been born. That way she never would have made the decisions that led her to this moment.
She pulled herself away from Orchid, sitting upright, rubbing her hands over her face.
"Vels?" Orchid whispered, concern laced in every syllable. "You okay?"
Velvet sighed, not looking at the purple Rageon, instead deciding to keep her eyes locked on the night sky outside her window. "No." She said bluntly, she felt ashamed of herself, for all of this, and for what she was about to do. "We shouldn't have done this."
She didn't need to look at Orchid to see the hurt expression on her face, the purple Rageon shifted under the sheets. "I-I'm sorry Vel. Was I too forward? W-was it too much?"
"No." Velvet snapped, shutting the other up immediately. "I think you should leave now." That last part sounded more like a plea than a demand.
There was a long stretch of silence, the air rife with tension. She thought that Orchid was going to get a up and walk out any minute, but instead, she decided to open her mouth, every word dripped with bitterness.
"You know you never did tell me way you kissed me back then. Or why you ran away...but I suppose I can figure THAT out."
Velvet turned her head to look at Orchid, her brow furrowed in confusion. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Orchid leaned up, mirroring Velvet's position, "You know what I mean. Can't have the popular girl getting caught making out with the local nerd right?"
It seemed that Orchid developed a bit of an attitude since graduating, much to Velvet's dismay. She sent the purple Rageon a glare before returning her attention back to the window. "Consider what I did a favor. If we were caught both of us would never hear the end of it. Especially you."
"So then why did you kiss me?"
"Fucks sake Orchid I don't know!" She snapped, "I don't know why I did it. It was a long time ago. Now will you just let it go?"
There was another long stretch of silence, Velvet kept her eyes trained on the moonlight spilling into her room. She didn't want to look at Orchid.
Suddenly, the weight on the bed shifted as Orchid moved to stand up and started searching for her clothes. She muttered under her breath as she slipped on her shirt, "I guess some things never change."
Velvet felt a bile form in her throat and her face grew hot as tears stung her eyes. Don't look at her. Don't look at Orchid.
Then she heard a sniffle come from the purple Rageon and she couldn't help but turn her head to face her. Her violet eyes were brimming with tears. "Can you at least tell me why you asked me here tonight?" She pleaded, every word felt like as stab to Velvet's chest. "You could have just let me walk away and none of this ever would have happened."
Tears threatened to fall down her cheeks as she replied. "I don't know."
Wet streaks stained Orchids cheeks, she wiped them away hastily and shook her head. She was so utterly done with this, so done with Velvet. Why did she have to be so infatuated with her. The girl who would never love her back.
"See ya." She whispered shakily. Turning around and leaving through the door.
That was the last time Velvet would ever see of her.
Veneer was positively beaming as he parked his car in the driveway, still somewhat flush from a long night of clubbing. He stepped out of the car with shaky legs, locking the car doors as he approached the front door. His keys jangled as he went to unlock it until he slid his keys into the keyhole and realized it was already unlocked.
Strange? Perhaps Velvet unlocked it this morning for him?
No, she was never that considerate.
He felt a pang of panic as he opened the door and saw no sign of Velvet. She never would have left the door unlocked, not when anyone could break in and steal their precious expensive belongings.
"Vels! You here?!" He called out.
Her room. She had to be in her room.
Locking the front door when he closed it, tossing his coat on the coat hanger and kicking his shoes off he rushed up the stairs and down the hallway where Velvet's room was. The door was cracked open slightly.
He knocked lightly against the door, "You in there Vels?"
Silence for a moment, then he heard a groan. Phew she was in there.
"You left the door unlocked silly. Anyone could have just walked in."
Silence again, and then another groan.
"You okay?"
No response.
This wasn't normal. Something was wrong.
"Are you decent?" He asked, pressing a hand against the door, ready to push it open.
Still no response.
He slowly pushed the door open, peaking his head in first before approaching the lump in the middle of Velvets bed.
"Vels...what's wrong?"
The lump moved, the blanket being pulled down to show her mascara streaked face, red lipstick smudged across her mouth and chin.
She looked awful.
He placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, "Hey hey, what happened? Talk to me..."
She only shook her head, bringing her hands to her to her eyes as fresh tear fell down her cheeks.
All Veneer could do was hold her as she sobbed.
SpaceTime -- A brief history
SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States.  The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science.  SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research.  The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network.  Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor.  Gary’s always loved science. He studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on his career in journalism and radio broadcasting. He worked as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. Later, Gary became part of the team that set up ABC NewsRadio and was one of its first presenters. When asked to put his science background to use, Gary developed StarStuff which he wrote, produced and hosted, consistently achieving 9 per cent of the national Australian radio audience based on the ABC’s Nielsen ratings survey figures for the five major Australian metro markets: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth.  The StarStuff podcast was published on line by ABC Science -- achieving over 1.3 million downloads annually.  However, after some 20 years, the show finally wrapped up in December 2015 following ABC funding cuts, and a redirection of available finances to increase sports and horse racing coverage.  Rather than continue with the ABC, Gary resigned so that he could keep the show going independently.  StarStuff was rebranded as “SpaceTime”, with the first episode being broadcast in February 2016.  Over the years, SpaceTime has grown, more than doubling its former ABC audience numbers and expanding to include new segments such as the Science Report -- which provides a wrap of general science news, weekly skeptical science features, special reports looking at the latest computer and technology news, and Skywatch – which provides a monthly guide to the night skies. The show is published three times weekly (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and available from the United States National Science Foundation on Science Zone Radio, and through both i-heart Radio and Tune-In Radio.
