A Hopeful Future - DV3 Cast x Ultimate Cuteness Reader Finale

Ten years since you graduated Hope’s Peak Academy.

You stand on the balcony of the house you shared with your significant other, who was standing right beside you.

At your beloved plush bunny’s request, you passed him down to your child, if you had one.

He was just as attached to the rabbit as you were when you first received him from your grandmother. It was an endearing sight.

But that didn’t mean the bond you shared with Mr. Bunny ever went away. He continued to give you any kind of support you needed, and sometimes, you had time to spend alone with him. He still loved to hold you like a baby, even though you were fully grown.

If you had any children, you’d best believe the rabbit does the same thing to them too.

When they were born, you handed them to Mr. Bunny to hold them, and he held them so gently, as though they were made of glass. And instead of cowering away from him, they curled into his soft chest, and you saw his black, beady eyes shine with tears.

He basically became their third parent, and sometimes, you had to pry the child away from him because he refused to leave their side. Then you would laugh as he got grumpy and pouted at you.

He was like the family’s bodyguard, and he did his job well. Not only was he very difficult to damage, but his keen senses did a great job at sensing danger, then getting rid of it before you or your family could find out.

Anyway, you watched the sunset with a peaceful expression, on the warm cottage property you always dreamed of living in.

Seeing you lost in thought, your significant other gets your attention by placing their hand on yours.

“Are you alright?”

You snapped to attention and gave them a warm smile and nodded.

“Just thinking about the past, and how we ended up here. It’s kind of weird to think about, but I couldn’t be happier.”

Your significant other nods and mirrors you, watching the sunset as well.

Shuichi Saihara

He smiles and chuckles at you.

“Yeah, kind of. But I’m glad we’re here now.”

After graduation, he received a letter from one of the best detective departments in the city

He spent many nights working, and often struggled to come to bed with you

But he still assured that you meant everything to him

Together, you had one child

They took after your appearance, but was shy, like Shuichi

You find them absolutely adorable

Shuichi smiles and takes your hand in his, as he turns back to the sunset

Rantaro Amami

He chuckles at you and nods.

“It kind of is, huh? But hey, I’m not complaining.”

He still loved to travel, so he found a job where he could take business trips often

So sometimes he would leave for a while, but he sent postcards and gifts he knew you would like

Anything to let you know he was still thinking of you

You have at least two children with him

He loves taking care of people, but if two is enough for you, it’s enough for him

Sometimes he and Mr. Bunny argue over the children’s affections

It’s pretty funny sometimes

Rantaro smiles at you once more before slinging his arm over your shoulder and pulling you close to him

Kokichi Oma

He tilts his head and gives you a look of mock confusion.

“Hmmmm? What do ya mean ‘weird’? Are you calling me weird??”

His face changes to a look of playful sadness before smiling at you.

“Yeah, I guess it is kinda weird. But at least we’re here now, right?”

Thanks to him and his organization, he earned a lot of money

He worked too hard to let it go, even after all these years

But he did promise not to do anything too evil

He’s not a fan of kids, so he doesn’t enjoy the idea of having one of his own

But if you really want a child, he might consider it

He hopes they’ll at least have a fun attitude and won’t be super boring

In the present, he wraps his arm around your waist and leans into you

He may not have gotten that last growth spurt, but at least his attitude matured

Kaito Momota

He looks at you and grins widely.

“Maybe a little, but I’m happy to be where we are!”

He achieved his dream and got a job as an astronaut

Similar to Rantaro, he often leaves home to go on space expeditions

But he’ll bring you back souvenirs from the places he visits

He loves the idea of having kids, so you’ll probably have at least one

He’ll teach them about his passions, hoping they’ll take interest in it

As you sit together, he wraps his arm around your waist and pulls you close to him with a smile

Gonta Gokuhara

He turns and gives you a warm smile.

“Maybe, but Gonta is glad S/O stayed by his side for so long.”

He found a job where he could talk about bugs all day long

Some people found the way he talked to be weird, but he was improving

And he was at least able to talk about something he loved

He would love to be a dad, so you might at least have one child

Most you'll have is three

He'll introduce them to all his bug friends, and hopefully they won't be afraid of them

In the present, Gonta grins at you and pulls you into a soft, but tight embrace

Korekiyo Shinguji

He looks ahead with a thoughtful hum before turning to you with a smile.

"Hm. I suppose you could say that. But I wouldn't dare rewrite history if it meant that we wouldn't be together.

To continue his passion for humanity, he started studying archaeology

And he no longer covered his face with a mask, since you being with him finally helped him to let go of his sister

He's not big on the idea of having children, but he's open to it if you want to

He'd prefer to have just one partially because he doesn't want a repeat of him and his sister

"Yeah, kinda. But hey, at least we're here."

After leaving high school, he continued with becoming a tennis player

He hoped it would help him find himself, discover what he wants to do

It does help, and he remembers what he enjoyed so much before he lost it

He doesn't plan on having any kids, but maybe

He certainly wouldn't mind playing some tennis with them

Plus, his cat and your bunny have developed a loving relationship

If you do have a child, forget a third parent, they'd have a whole other set of parents

He smiles and takes your hand and pats it

He nods at you while admiring the sunset.

"You could say that. But I wouldn't change a thing!'

There's a lot he could do

When Miu began her robotics company, he became an employee and worked alongside her for a while

And once he got enough money, he started one of his own

He was determined to show off the power of robots and what they can do when working alongside humans ahaha...

Having children is... Kind of difficult

But he would love to adopt one with you

He wants to experience what it's like to be a father, and to experience parental love

Kaede Akamatsu

She nods with a soft smile.

"Yeah. But I'm glad we're here."

She became a professional pianist

She started piano lessons for those who wanted to learn, and she played at big events

She would love to have a child with you

You'll have one, maybe two

She would love to play them soft, classical songs to help them sleep, and maybe even teach them

She leans against your shoulder with a small smile as you enjoy the moment together

Maki Harukawa

She nods and gives you a small smile.

"Yeah. But I'm glad it turned out this way."

After high school, she ditched her job as an assassin and went back to child caregiving

She wanted to leave that part of her life behind and pursue a more wholesome career

Although it was frustrating at first, the kids always liked her, and she started to warm up to them

She's still hesitant to have a child of her own, because she doubts if she can be a good parent

But she would love to have one, to give them the loving home she never got

And she'd do a damn fine job of it

While you sit together, she scoots closer to you and takes your hand while leaning on your shoulder

Miu Iruma

She lets out a chuckle and watches the beautiful sight ahead of you.

"Heh, kinda. But hey, I managed to find your fine ass. I gotta say, that's pretty damn good."

She got a job as an engineer

Even started her own robotics company to show off her skill

She's still vulgar, she's still flirtatious, she's still Miu

But she has matured quite a lot

She doesn't really want kids, honestly

But if you do have one, she'd make them a bunch of cute toys for them to play with

As you sit together, she wraps an arm around your waist and pulls you close with a grin

Himiko Yumeno

She blinks sleepily and gives you a small smile.

"Nyeh... A little. But at least we're together."

She'd still give magic a shot, even after high school

She wants to prove that her "parlor tricks" are real magic

Mr. Bunny has actually been rather helpful in helping her achieve this, so she showed even greater skills to the world

She even started taking aspiring magicians under her wing and training them as apprentices

She doesn't love the idea of having a child; you and Mr. Bunny are all she needs

But she miiiight consider it if you really want one

She wouldn't mind teaching them magic if they were interested

In the present, your sleepy mage leans against your shoulder as you watch the sunset

She hums and smiles brightly.

"Indeed! But I'm glad that Atua put me on that path! It guided me to you, after all!"

She became a professional artist

She did commissions, sold art online, even sent some of her art to a museum

She even did art classes for anyone interested in learning from her

She would love to have a child with you, if you want

She'd teach them all about art, and she'll hang up everything they make on the fridge, even if it sucks

In the present, she giggles and pulls you close to her in a soft embrace

Kirumi Tojo

She hums thoughtfully and gives you a small smile.

"Indeed. But I couldn't be more glad that we're here."

She still did work as a housemaid

People could call her and hire her whenever they needed

Only this time, she valued herself more

She doesn't take nonsense from anyone, nor does she allow anyone to take advantage of her

And it's all thanks to you

She would love to have a child with you

She would be strict at times, but also give them all the love and care they could ask for

As you sit together, she takes your hand in her gloved one and squeezes it

Tenko Chabashira

She turns and gives you a smile.

"Yeah, a little bit. But at least I'm with you."

She became a Neo Aikido instructor

She taught people all over how to master it

But although her master did help her become strong, she didn't poison her pupils' opinions of men like she did

She didn't want them to become bitter and hateful

She wouldn't mind having a child with you if you wanted to

She'd love them with all her heart and soul, and might teach them the art of Neo Aikido when they're older

In the present, she grins and wraps an arm around your waist and pulls you close

Tsumugi Shirogane

She hums thoughtfully before facing you with a warm smile.

“Yeah, it is. But I’m glad we’re here now.”

Her talent for cosplay expanded into designing actual costumes

People commissioned her for her talent, and she even had her costumes sold in stores

You'd best believe she'd make a billion different outfits for your child

She would love to have one with you

She would shower them with soooo much love

As you sit together, she smiles and takes your hand before leaning against your shoulder

As you two enjoy your moment, Mr. Bunny comes out with your favorite hot drinks and sets them on the table before sitting right between you two.

Any children you have, if any at all, come rushing out to you, causing you and your significant other to let out a laugh. Now all together, Mr. Bunny wraps his arms around you and pulls you both close to him, as your little family shares this loving moment together.

V3 Boys as Passengers of S/O's Dad

Shuichi Saihara

When you first started dating, Shuichi was still really self-conscious about himself, and was worried about his impression on your Dad. So when he asked him to help with his driving test, Shuichi thought it would be a great way to bond. Thank god he wasn't wearing his hat this time, cause it would be gone by now. I'm talking it would have flow into the Atlantic ocean by now. Your Dad was absolutely insane behind the wheel, and Shuichi didn't need to be the Ultimate Detective to know that. He desperately grabbed onto the seat to stop himself from flying away. The majority of the time he was silent, but at the last hurdle a giant scream rung out Despite feeling like the world was spinning, Shuichi actually made a good impression on your Dad! He was super thankful and appreciated Shuichi's help. With a shakey hand, he gave a thumbs up, dreading having to do this ever again

Gonta Gokuhara

Car? What's a car? Gonta has never even been in a car his entire life, even when he went to school. He always just walked everywhere, that's what he was used to. So when your Dad asked him to join him on a driving test Gonta was happy to assist! He really wanted to make a good impression on your father, and wanted to prove he was worthy to be your boyfriend. Oh dear god get him off this thing- For a first experience in a car, this was NOT ideal. Your Dad was infamously known in your family to be an erratic driver, and Gonta had never even been on a roller coaster before. His heart nearly jumped out of his chest as he gripped on anything he could grab onto. So many screams almost escaped his throat but he was trying soooo hard to not be rude! Gonta is a gentleman, he can handle this! Yeah, at the end when your Dad thanked him, he gave a weak smile and nod, legs shaking. When he offered to drive Gonta home, he QUICKLY declined and said he'd walk! For the next few months just the sight of a vehicle made him break out into a cold sweat

Hm, riding in a car, huh? Kiibo never really had to ride any vehicle or public transporation before, so this was a new experience. He had a minor moral crisis (a robot in a non-conscious vehicle? Is that appropriate, does he need to ask it's permission?). With your Dad's reassurance, Kiibo was able to shake it off and join him! If he had a heart, it would have lept out of his mouth at this point. The constant road bumps and sharp turns threw his systems out of wack. It felt like his eyes were spinning in their sockets. He kept trying to give feedback and tips, but every movement quickly shut him up in fear. He managed to be quiet at the beginning, but near the end he couldn't hold in the screams anymore At the end of the drive, Kiibo managed to realign himself and give some good feedback. He made sure to make notes on the speeds your Dad was going and the angle of his steering. Your Dad nodded his head and took notes, grateful for the input. After he got home, Kiibo pretty much collapsed into your arms (thankfully you didn't fall over from the weight of his metal) and nearly cried. He was pretty sure it was retribution for entering the car without it's consent. Just hold him for a bit, he'll get better

Kaito Momota

Driving lessons? Hell yeah he'll join! Kaito was already good friends with your Dad, so helping him with a driving test was a no brainer. Not to mention he's gonna be an astronaut, he's gotta get used to G-Force. Let's go! Oh lord. Oh lord oh jesus. Kaito is a brave boy... BUT NOT A BRAVE ENOUGH BOY FOR THIS- Sure, he isn't great on roller coasters, but he never expected to experience anything like this in his life. For some reason it was even worse! Probably because one wrong wheel turn and they could be dead. Unlike a lot of the others, he did NOT hold in his screams. Kaito was screeching at the top of his lungs, mouth foaming The moment he stepped out of the car, Kaito collapsed onto the ground. Feeling the sweet sweet earth was comforting. After thanking him, your Dad tried to console him, but Kaito insisted he was fine. He just needed a few moments or else he'd probably throw up. Thank god rocket launches are this bad! ...right?

Kokichi Ouma

Kokichi doesn't really give too much a damn if your Dad likes him. It's a nice bonus and makes it easier during family events. But even if he didn't like him, Kokichi would date you anyways. When your Dad asked him to look over his driving test, Kokichi decided why not? He was bored anyways, might as well do something to pass the time Okay, so he was fine... at first. For the first half he was actually having fun! It was kind of like a roller coaster at an amusement park and it was super exciting. He had his hands up and everything, laughing like crazy. That all came to a sudden halt when they were 1 second away from crashing into a tree, only saved by a sharp turn. Now he was scared. Kokichi realized that this wasn't safe fun anymore, his life was in the hands of an inept man. For the rest of the test, he was crying and screaming in fear After the test his face was covered in tears, and was left sniffling like a child. Your Dad asked if he was okay, but Kokichi did what he does best: lie. Nah, he was totally fine! All that crying was just a joke. That answer satisfied your Dad, but inside Kokichi was still shaking and scared

Korekiyo Shinguji

The thought of a man his age not having a license intrigued him. Most adults earn their license early in their development, usually at age 16. When your Dad asked for Korekiyo's help, he happily agreed. It would be a great way to study and inspect your father, and get a good read on your family's history and behaviors Jesus christ. Korekiyo has never experienced anything like this before. Let's be real, he is a kinky bitch, he's used to getting thrown around. But whiplash is not sexy! His body was as stiff as a board the whole drive, in fear of losing a limb. He's never thrown up in his life, but this is definitely the closest he's gotten. At first it was mildly interesting, even humorous. But at this point Korekiyo's plan to study and inspect was thrown out the damn window. All he could think of was the inevitablity of meeting his dead sister in the afterlife After the drive ended, and his life was spared, he let out a sigh and loosened up again. Your Dad thanked him for the company, and Korekiyo humbly accepted. At the end of the day he realised he didn't learn a damn thing about your father or your family that whole ride. Maybe it should stay that way

Rantaro Amami

When your Dad asked him to help with his driving test, Rantaro happily agreed. He had a good relationship with your father, and felt this would be a great way to get to know eachother. Drive around, chat a bit, have a good time Rantaro is a chill man. Nothing really fazes him, and even if it does he's pretty good at hiding it. This was no different, but fuck it was the hardest situation he's ever encountered. His mouth was tightly shut and his eyes wide open. He tried his hardest to initate a conversation, but every bump made his mouth clamp shut. Even if he got the words out, there was no way your Dad would hear, he was too focused on aceing this test At the end Rantaro put on a good facade of calmness. Your Dad tried to apologize and see if he was okay, but Rantaro brushed it off and assured him he was fine. The day ended on a good note, but Rantaro was sure he'd never drive with your Dad again... at least until he got his license

Ryoma Hoshi

Ryoma was fine with being a passenger. Your Dad was trying to get his license at a higher age, that's admirable. He can't really reach the pedals on a normal car anyways, so Ryoma thought it couldn't hurt to try out a normal sized car for once. Can't be that bad right? This man already knew he was going to be dead soon, he now accepted this car would be his tomb. Death Row was a distant dream, his body will be found in a pile of scrap metal. With every bump they hit, his body would fly up off the seat, only saved by the seatbelt. Ryoma was completely silent the whole time. There was no point in screaming Even when the car stopped, it took a hot minute for Ryoma to even get out. It took your Dad calling his name to break him out of his trance. His voice was calm when accepting your father's appreciation, but inside Ryoma was still ready to shake hands with the devil. He loves you so much, but that day it was tested

"Oh! Look, it's on, it's on~!"

The camera opened to a group of five, the one who spoke being a boy with purple hair who shook another boy with blue hair excitedly.

"Hiya hiya hi~! I'm Kokichi Ouma, the Ultimate Supreme Leader and the class president of the freshman class at Tankadaigaku University!"

"Ouma, you don't have to grip Saihara so tightly, you look like you're about to snap his arm off."

Kokichi pouts, but lets go of the blue-haired boy, who seems relieved.

"Alright, then. I am Korekiyo Shinguji, and they call me the Ultimate Anthropologist. Please, do not ask me to remove the mask."

"Hey, everyone. I'm Shuichi Saihara, and I'm called the Ultimate Detective. Ah... D-Don't get too attached to the title, though, it's more symbolic these days than anything else, heh..."

"Well, heya! My turn then? I'm Kaito Momota, the heroic Luminary Of The Stars, and the Ultimate Astronaut! Don't be shy, I'm a cool guy and I don't bite."

"Aww, but isn't that more fun if you bite~?"

He giggles and Kaito blushes, looking to the side.

"Kidding, kidding~. Anyway, it's... your... turn."

He says this in a disgusted tone as the only girl of the group steps forward.

"Jeez... All these years, and I'm still not good at introductions. Uhh... I'm Tsumugi Shirogane, the Ultimate Cosplayer. I like fashion and makeup and... all that stuff. I also occasionally dabble in engineering."

"That said, guys, can we get a promo? It'd be cool if ya did!"

Description: It's Kaito's first Sports Day at Hope's Peak Academy and he's ready to make it count! Is everyone else? Written for Luminary of the Stars: A Kaito Momota Zine Word Count: 2082 Read on AO3 The sun was high in the sky, the conditions were perfect, not a cloud out there. No one, not even Mother Nature, was going to rain on his parade today! With a bounce in his step, Kaito crossed the grounds. His eyes skimmed over the track where the staff and volunteers were already starting to set up the coming events. Sure, there was still attendance and homeroom, but after that, he was going to have his first big victory here at Hope’s Peak Academy! He pushed open the entrance doors into the busy halls of before-class bustle.

As Kaito made his way in, a hand slapped his shoulder. “Good to see you came prepared with better footwear!” a voice boomed. The towering figure behind him was an upperclassman, one who seemed just as hyped as Kaito was for the event: the Ultimate Team Manager.

“Sure did.” Kaito grinned, hefting the sneakers he had slung over his shoulder by the laces. They had a personal touch too: gold laces and tiny embroidered shooting stars. Perfect for him! “I’m serious today, you’d better watch out!”

“Excellent! We could use a challenge from the first years!” Nekomaru laughed, hands falling back to his hips. He was wearing his own odd footwear, geta sandals, but the bag on his shoulder made it clear he was ready to change.

“A challenge? You gonna take us on? Bring it!” Akane chimed in from behind him, a wicked grin on her face as she packed a fist. What kind of challenge was she expecting?!

“Yeah, I’ll see you at the tug of war!” Kaito prompted, trying to steer things back to the event and away from… Whatever idea Akane had. He glanced across the hallway and pointed at the redhead leaning over a girl’s locker. “Your class too, Leon! You bring your all!”

“What?” The baseball star looked up with irritation, then shook his head. “Oh right, Sports Day? Tch, like we musicians care about something so dumb. Right Sayaka?”

Popping her head out of the locker, Sayaka giggled and smiled behind her hand. It always looked like that girl had a secret. “Oh, I don’t know, I think it’ll be fun! Got to stay in top form to perform.” The look of betrayal on Leon’s face was priceless. The idol turned her dazzling smile to Kaito. “Good luck today!”

“Thanks!” Taking this chance to escape before Akane set her sights back on him, he waved and left. He heard her challenging Leon as he made his way out of sight, Sayaka’s melodious laugh ringing out again.

The astronaut trainee rounded the corner into the hallway with his own year, his anticipation mounting. Their first time competing together as a team! Most of the studying done at Hope’s Peak had everyone split off for talents, but this? This would be a group effort.

Kaito opened the door to the hubbub of chatter, everyone spread out and ready to go! The energy in the air was excellent! He could feel the excitement, they really were going to show those upperclassmen that they wouldn’t be taken lightly! He pumped a fist in the air. “Alright!”

He was nudged out of the doorframe, his shorter classmate, Ryoma, muttering an ‘excuse me’ to pass. Looking back into the room, the bubble burst, his imagination having painted the room with far brighter impressions than actually resided within. There was chatter; Kaede in particular was talking with Miu and Angie, while Gonta was in discussion with Kirumi who was marking down attendance in the absence of their teacher. However, the only two who looked ready were Tenko, who was jogging on the spot, hair looped up into a bun as her eyes roved the room, and Rantaro, who had arrived in his gym clothes. Most others were seated at their desks like it was an ordinary day.

Kaito’s grin squished inwards at the underwhelming feeling, but he soldiered on, crossing the room to his sidekicks. They were both at Maki’s desk, the detective waving from his spot standing beside it while Maki glared from her seat. Kaito’s smile returned at the acknowledgement. He thumbed back at the rest of the class over his shoulder as he arrived, “Can you two believe this?”

Shuichi checked behind him, as if he was expecting something amiss, but looked back at a loss. “Believe what, Kaito?”

Maki didn’t even spare the room a thought, still waiting on the astronaut to spit out the rest. He was a little shocked neither of them seemed to notice.

“Believe the lack of spirit! Doesn’t look like everybody’s ready to win yet!” Kaito explained, patting Shuichi on the shoulder as he caught him up.

“We’re not going to win,” Maki retorted, sighing as she shook her head.

“What? Maki Roll, that’s quitter talk! Don’t you believe in us? I’m sure we can pull it off!” Kaito shot back as he raised a fist in the air, his shoes swinging from his shoulder loose as he did. The caregiver sat back to avoid them, crossing her arms, apparently unmoved by his declaration.

“Ah, it’s not that we don’t believe, Kaito, but, well… Our chances aren’t all that high,” Shuichi sheepishly chimed in. “Our class only has two athletes, and one of them is Ryoma. You know as well as we do his feelings on his talent. I doubt he’s going to be all that competitive today.”

“Now hold on! Just cuz someone’s talent ain’t athletic doesn’t mean they aren’t a competitor,” he countered. “Just look at Gonta, he could turn the tide in something like the tug of war, so long as we’ve got his back! Or front, since he’ll probably be the anchor, but y’know what I mean. And how about Rantaro and I!”

At the mention of his name, Rantaro glanced up from the stretches he’d started. He was without context but waved at them on cue before returning to extend his arm across his chest and push it back.

Kaito beamed and mirrored the same stretch before looking back to his sidekicks. “Both of us are in perfect shape for our own talents, even if they aren’t sports. Can’t be caught on any mission or excursion without some endurance.”

“So you think we’ll win with three more competitors? That’s not even half the class.” Maki frowned. Kaito could be imagining it, but she didn't seem to have the same finality this time. Progress! He patted her head happily. She ducked a few seconds later, like a delayed reaction.

“Well, not just them, there’s you two as well! Since we started training a couple months ago you’re both our secret weapons! Don’t tell me you weren’t counting yourself, Maki Roll? You’re fastest at pushups,” Kaito insisted. He really hadn’t expected that from her in the beginning, but given how tough her childhood in that orphanage had been, it wasn’t a complete surprise. Shuichi’s improvements were far more impressive, but he’d understand them assuming he wasn’t a ringer for the class.

“I appreciate the vote of confidence, Kaito,” Shuichi chuckled, cracking a smile. “I’m not really the best at these sorts of things.”

“Do you really think we can win? The whole class has to participate.” Maki remained unconvinced but diplomatic. “I’m not saying I’m not going to try, but we’re not exactly a team.”

“Those are just the easiest people to point out,” Kaito sighed. “A team isn’t all about peak physical condition, it’s gotta have lots of parts. Everyone’s got a job, even if that isn’t lifting something or running fast. I bet there’s loads of secret strengths we can use! C’mon!” He grabbed Maki’s hand and swiftly yanked her up out of her seat.

Her eyes went wide as she found her balance, sputtering. Kaito didn’t need to worry about that of course, he knew she was on the ball. Kaito pulled her up to the front of the class with him, looking for someone to add to their arsenal of secret weapons. Of those sitting at their desks he locked onto someone who looked to need some spirit, a hand propping up their cheek.

“Here’s something no one else has!” Kaito announced, near scaring him out of his chair. He turned to look at the two of them nervously. “No other class has an Ultimate Robot! He’s bound to give us an edge!”

“Are you referring to today’s events?” Kiibo asked dubiously. “I’m unsure what help, if any, I’ll be. As a physical activity for health, they don’t account for someone like me. But I told Miu I want the true student experience, so I turned down her suggested improvements…”

No upgrades, huh? Kiibo’s strength was pretty average, most of his functions were smaller utilities. But that wasn’t enough to give up!

“That’s not the edge I’m talking about,” Kaito said, waving a hand. “I mean, sure those would help, but I bet a cool robot like you has more to prove than anyone else! Think of all the future robot highschoolers you can inspire if you win today! Something like that’s gotta be motivating, right?”

“That sounds ridiculous,” Maki said from behind him, freeing her hand and crossing her arms. “Just like the kids back at the orphanage talking about their Saturday morning shows.”

“It’s not ridiculous if it gets you going, though!” Kaito said, turning to lean back over the robot’s desk. “Don’t you want to be the hero of the class? The first robot to win at Sports Day?”

Kiibo seemed unsure.

“You should! Hold on, Maki Roll, you start training with him, I’ve got just the thing,” Kaito pushed off the desk and pivoted away.

“You are aware,” came a chilling voice as he passed another desk, “that we are to adhere to class rules until we’re excused, yes?” Kaito spared a glance over at Korekiyo, who sat tall in his seat, bandaged fingers clasped on the desk. His soft laugh as always was muffled by the mask. “Someone’s eager.”

“‘Course I am, you should try it,” he said, crouching in the closet. Kaito was positive this was where Tsumugi had stored her last project. Peering over his shoulder to be certain Korekiyo hadn’t followed him for a cheap scare, Kaito’s hand touched hair. He flinched back, eyes going to the closet again, where a face greeted him in the darkness. He caught himself when he recognized it as a familiar sleepy one.

“I’m just meditating, to gather mana…” Himiko mumbled from her spot tucked tight in the back. Tenko’s endlessly searching eyes made more sense now. In her own way, the mage probably needed this more than a warm-up; she might tire out if it was one guided by the other girl.

“Sure, do what you gotta,” Kaito agreed, reaching behind her to grab his quarry. He yanked free the black and white pom poms from his classmate’s cheerleader cosplay, bouncing them once experimentally before straightening up.

Maki was there facing him as he stepped out. Behind her it looked like Kiibo had taken up the stretching routine with Rantaro, to the latter’s amusement. Shuichi was speaking animatedly with Korekiyo. The energy in the room was changing, bit by bit. Even Ryoma was back, talking with Gonta, demonstrating some step-technique. Maki raised a brow at his find.

“They’re for encouragement!” Kaito said, waving the pom poms in the air.

“I think you’re already doing that without a prop. If we do stand a chance at winning, it’s going to be because you lead us there. I don’t think Kiibo’s a hero, or that Gonta will turn any tides. Shuichi and I might not be secret weapons, either, but I think you made a fair point about not quitting, there’s still a chance.” A faint smile appeared on her face.

Kaito’s eyes lit up. He jumped up to throw his arms around Maki, who startled. “That’s all I’m asking! We can’t go down without a fight!” He squeezed tight, the pom poms ruffling behind her a moment before—

“Yoink!”

The pair looked behind them as Kokichi liberated the fluffy props, and waved them about, laughing. “Can’t have a team without your supreme leader, right?”

“You give those back to Kaito,” Maki demanded, indignantly freeing herself from the embrace. Kokichi took off and she ran after him.

“Hey, wait! Save it for the relay you two!” Kaito laughed. They were all fired up now, there was no stopping this! They’d leave their marks on this school.

it took many hours of research (thank you yokai.com and the myths and folklore wiki) and many decisions based on bullshit, but! I now have a finished (sorta) cryptid au chart to go on. More descriptions/explainations below the cut:

**EDIT: Some people raised concerns about cultural appropriation, so I’ve changed Maki to Bloody Mary! I apologize for the lack of research on my end!

Shuichi Saihara - Apprentice Grim Reaper

If Ultimate Lucky Student equals human, then Ultimate Detective equals Death. My working theory is that Shuichi was intended to be Class 79’s resident human, but died on his way to the school and was then taken in by Kyoko as an apprentice.

**Maki Harukawa - Bloody Mary

Specifically the version where she was falsely accused of killing a bunch of kids and then burned alive for it. Now she kills, but only when summoned. Kind of like an assassin!

Kaito Momota - Krampus/Goatman

Kaito really wanted to be viewed like Santa and instead he’s viewed as like. Evil Santa. And he’s sad about it. Also he has a bridge, though I imagine he’d be pretty gung-ho about dancing on it. (I don’t have a good explanation for this either. it’s just vibes.)

Himiko Yumeno - Baba Yaga

More like Baby Yaga, am I right??? I was just going to make her witch, but that’s booooring. I’m probably never going to draw like, Old Lady Himiko, though. Maybe she was just too lazy to age normally.

Tsumugi Shirogane - Lizardperson (Chameleon)

She’s totally plain and normal! Don’t look too closely! You definitely won’t find anything! What is this AU, if not a bunch of monsters cosplaying as humans. And what cryptid would be the best for that, if not a lizard person. As for the chameleon, i like the aesthetic more than just regular lizard face.

K1-B0 - Automaton

Yes, it’s lazy. (Though he’s also in contention for Class Human, specifically so he can claim to be a robot. Because his whole childhood he was gaslit by his “creator” into being told he was a robot. And this is the first school where people hear that and go “yup, that checks out!”)

Gonta Gokuhara - Boogeyman

I really screwed myself over by making Taka Mothman, but I just love that idea too deeply to change it. So, where’d I get the Boogeyman? Well, if we operate under the Oogie Boogie man from The Nightmare Before Christmas, the Boogeyman is basically a sentient pillowcase full of bugs! Sounds good enough to me!

Miu Iruma - Nymph (Dionysian)

Again, I really screwed myself over by using all the horny monsters up on other characters, but I think this works! Dionysian Nymphs are particularly frisky and have a propensity for partying and vulgarity, but maybe the booze will knock a good idea loose every once and a while.

Rantaro Amami - Kelpie

Green hair??? Seaweed??? Hatred of cars??? I got nothing, we really haven’t/didn’t see that much of that boy. This is subject to change of his talent is revealed, in which case kelpie status will probably transfer to Tenko. He’s listed as a possible Class Human because he could be the Lucky Student? But it’s unlikely.

Kokichi Oma - Eldritch Horror

I’m not convinced he’s not an Eldritch Horror in canon, tbh.

Kaede Akamatsu - Sylph

I search high and low, yet found no piano cryptids. So I went with Sylph because they’re air spirits, sometimes depicted as hummingbirds (music theme!) Plus, Kaede can be a little airheaded sometimes.

Ryoma Hoshi - Kappa

This was mostly vibes + I drew a doodle of Ryoma with a Lotad-esc lily pad head and fell in love. Plus, uh, drowning is an essential part of both Ryoma and kappas. Dude would probably be the chillest kappa in existence though.

Kirumi Tojo - Jorōgumo

There’s a lot of Kirumi spider imagery. This seems like a shoo-in.

Angie Yonaga - Living Painting

okay this is mostly just me being on an Ib kick, but it would explain why she’s always smiling. Bonus: Atua was/is the name of her painter.

Tenko Chabashira - Yeti

I…I got nothing for this. I ran out of man-hating monsters, and I wanted something that could beat the shit out of you. It was this or a Chimera. I dunno.

Korekiyo Shinguji - Naga

I only know this because of his FTEs Korekiyo compares himself to Medusa at one point and says it’s his favorite folktale. Unfortunately, gorgon has already been claimed by Miss Celestia Ludenburg, but luckily we can still get that snake monster symbolism. Mask is to cover up that unhinging jaw probably. (Also let’s just say that he isn’t dating his sister for this AU, yeah? I don’t want to deal with that.)

Also, some adjustments to earlier cryptids:

Toko Fukawa/Genocide Jack: Some people raised concerns that having any sort of cryptid that “played off” Genocide Jack could be considered offensive to those with DID or MPD, so I changed it. And honestly? The Kuchisake-onna works so much better. Woman who’s insecure about her body image and carries around a giant pair of scissors?? If that’s not Toko, I don’t know what is!

Mukuro Ikusaba: I love Mukuro, but I felt like the Waheela was just sort of me grasping for any sort of wolf symbolism, and it didn’t really work. Now she’s an incredibly intimidating curse demon who can control the weather! Much better.

Junko Enoshima: I think she was technically a Wraith before?? but Lich just seemed more fitting. She’s every DND campaign’s BBG.

Kokichi ??? Protag + Kaito Supreme Leader Talentswap

So we have a pretty clear lead going on in the poll right now. I'd be surprised if another choice manages to surpass this one, but if one does I'll get to that one next!

I'll start by covering my notes for the overall explanation, Ch. 1, and Ch. 2 of this concept; I thought I'd be able to do it all in one go but it's getting really long (both in word length, and in the amount of time I've spent putting this together!)

Let's get into it!

Preamble:

So Kaito has pretty insane influence over the whole DRV3 group (except Kokichi). I mean, after viewing the Chapter 3 Flashback Light, all it takes is for Kaito to say he doubts it for everyone else in the group to disbelieve it as well (...except Kokichi, because of course he doesn't care what Kaito thinks). Same with Kaito swaying everyone to use the first Flashback Light in Chapter 2. All in all... he's honestly pretty terrifying to me. And that's when he's supposed to be your ally! So with this in mind, I started thinking of a talentswap where Kaito takes on an antagonistic role as the Ultimate Supreme Leader!

In other words, the core concept behind this talentswap is: Kaito as Supreme Leader. Spoiler alert: he's terrifying

Now at the start of brainstorming this story concept, I actually did mention how "we can't ever have Kokichi as a protagonist. That just doesn't work, he's not protagonist material. It's the kinda lame thing Kokichi fans who like him too much do" and well guess what I am now

Jokes aside, this is probably the one concept where I could see a Kokichi protag working, since we'd need someone capable of standing up against Kaito to be our protagonist. The next best candidate is Kaede, I'd say, but she's had her chances (I came up with the Kaede Assassin protag talentswap before this one, too). Plus, Kokichi's talent (or rather, lack of known talent) makes him particularly vulnerable and forces him to rely more on others than he'd do otherwise, allowing him to be more protagonist-like, so to speak.

And before we get into things... I, completely on accident, set up this talentswap to be very self-indulgent. By that I mean I came up with this talentswap with my sibling Sebec and I started assigning talents and roles excitedly until Sebec pointed out "hey. Doesn't this basically set up your favourite ship?" and the realization led me to scream in agony for 30 minutes

So, without further ado...

Concept: Prologue + Ch. 1

Obviously we have the usual: wake up in a locker, meet everyone, oh my god killing game

Where things really begin to diverge is when Kaede starts trying to take charge.

In canon, during his free time events with Kaede, Kaito actually mentions that he would've started leading the group himself if Kaede hadn't beaten him to it. While she's alive, he's nice enough to not obstruct Kaede's efforts at least (although his peers bash him the whole time for seeming lazy for it)

In this talentswap, Kaito is not nearly as nice. Evidently, an Ultimate Supreme Leader with his personality wouldn't want to be shown up by any of his peers. So from here, we have a split in the group as they become divided into two; like a more extreme, exciting, and prolonged version of canon's Chapter 3.

Turf wars!! Woohoo!!! So obviously, with Chapter 1 comes the First Blood Perk. And Kaito Momota does not like the First Blood Perk. Kaito Momota wants an exciting killing game, with an exciting class trial. Thus, he decided to cause problems on purpose.

That's right! Kaito Momota engineered the first case by targeting the Ultimate Prisoner, Gonta Gokuhara. But he can't just kill Gonta because then he'd miss the rest of the killing game! Here's where the content warning comes in; do be careful reading the next two passages (please).

Unfortunately, Mister Gokuhara is very unaware of his own strength. As in, he is prone to manslaughter level unaware. He was raised by prison family! Sometimes they went away, but they always came back... (kill me)

Kaito, being a benevolent Supreme Leader who spreads the truth, took it upon himself to inform Gonta that he was a danger to society. And with this knowledge, Gonta took his life into his own hands; thus bypassing the First Blood Perk.

(I think??? this is dark humour??? god I feel like a sadist right now)

In the first class trial, Kaito insinuates that the culprit must be someone who wants the whole group dead, hence they didn't take the First Blood Perk. This leads Maki to point the direction of doubt towards Tenko, the Ultimate Survivor. Unlike canon's Rantaro, Survivor Tenko had full knowledge of what being the Ultimate Survivor meant. Alongside that, she shared that knowledge with the group. Maki reasons that the Ultimate Survivor doesn't just want to escape the killing game; rather, they play the game to win.

So from there Kokichi and co. have to fight back and reveal the truth, etc. Though I don't have details brainstormed for this segment, I would like to throw in that Kokichi's class trial gameplay would feature a lie detection mechanic; ironically, this would replace V3's gameplay element of lying, meaning Kokichi doesn't end up lying in class trials. Fun, huh?

I envisioned that you'd be prompted to pick out a statement as a lie out of a section of the trial's transcript, so to speak, but could pick many of the statements with only one being correct. Other statements would send you down winding branching paths, with some leading back to the correct path after detecting enough lies, and some being dead ends which might give a clue to the right answer. Kind of like extreme versions of the back routes.

On to Chapter 2!

After the first class trial, Kokichi heads out for a walk in the courtyard at night, as he is wont to do. For some reason he's really restless at night. Never really feels like sleeping.

Now, what Kokichi doesn't know is that someone's watching him!! That someone is on the second floor of the academy, and they are an excellent sniper. This would be the Ultimate Assassin, Shuichi Saihara, who used his skill in disguise to claim the title of Ultimate Cosplayer. Mister Saihara has been put up to eliminating Kokichi by none other than Kaito Momota. Our assassin friend figures he can just put a few bullets through Kokichi and call it a day.

So he shoots him once.

Kokichi seems rather resilient, though, and isn't knocked down.

So Shuichi shoots him again. And again. He shoots Kokichi through the head. He has to be dead now, he's even fallen onto the ground.

So Shuichi stops shooting and leaves to retrieve Kokichi's body, hoping he can hide it to avoid a class trial.

...Kokichi is not dead.

Mostly because he was never alive to begin with.

When Shuichi stops shooting him, Kokichi drags himself to the dorms and knocks on the Ultimate Inventor, Keebo's, door.

And y'know what Keebo says to him?

"... Y-you... are not human."

"Yeah, I kinda noticed."

Kokichi Oma is actually the Ultimate Robot, so realistic that he could pass for human. And Keebo finds that not only has he sustained heavy damage from being shot a couple dozen times, he is also low on battery. It's a good thing he figured out he was a robot before he ran out of power.

Apparently that's the most notable event of Chapter 2. I wrote in my notes that Rantaro was killed, but I didn't specify by whom; just know that it's someone on Kaito's side.

Surely the other players of the killing game have access to the keys of love at the casino, right?

Kaito Momota, luminary of the stars after his awful losing streak at the casino has accrued enough coins to purchase the most expensive item at the premium exchange counter, the Key of Love. It’s enough to tempt any man. The ability to insert yourself into anyone’s fantasy, unable to know who you will get. It’s a roll of the dice that Kaito is willing to take(Especially after the gambling addiction he would TOTALLY get after being in the casino long enough to make 10k coins.) Who was he hoping for? The love suite doesn’t care what the answer to that question may have been. What he got was his training partner and loyal sidekick, Shuichi Saihara: The Ultimate detective.

What could Shuichi’s fantasy be? If Kaito wants to get through the night without waking his detective friend up as if they had been having a nightmare he is gonna have to play the role of Shuichi’s ideal partner.

So what I was thinking for this roleplay is we have a big dream sequence. I would like to follow the natural progression of it based on our interactions. Maybe it goes great and it’s a romantic fantasy? Maybe it goes awful and Kaito scrambles the next day to make sure that Shuichi is alright despite knowing that he won’t remember what happened in their dreams? Maybe it’s a sexual fantasy and Kaito can’t stop thinking about it. Perhaps after the fantasy Kaito can’t get enough and desperately tries to get more Keys of Love in order to perhaps have the chance to meet Shuichi once again in the Love suite.

I’m super open to something more long term or something short term! I roleplay Shuichi Saihara as a trans man though, so I hope that’s not a problem. Let’s discuss boundaries together around what is or isn’t okay in the roleplay! Whether you are looking for something sweet, angsty, sexual or something else, as long as it’s Saimota I want it!
