You know as happy as I am to see a pretty obscure, lost media movie like Goncharov get some traction on tumblr with international audiences, I wish people would consider the historical and cultural context in which it was created at least a little bit before putting their shipping goggles on. Nothing against Andrey/Goncharov shippers, OR against Katya/Sofia shippers, I know it kind of writes itself, but like, guys. You realize the physical intimacy between Andrey and Goncharov especially would have been perfectly normal at the time this movie was made? Like I know in the contemporary context in the USA any kind of affection between men is immediately seen as gay (which, other can of worms), but in 1973 Italy this would have been perfectly platonic to the audience. So trying to pass off the movie as, like, early queer rep?? No! Especially in Italy, one of the most Catholic countries in Europe. Who still doesn't have same-sex marriage, might I add.
But yeah on the topic of what was seen as normal platonic same sex affection, this is from 1979!
And like- idk this bugs me because it is a wider pattern especially with USAmerican audiences of looking at non-USAmerican media and just blithely ignoring the cultural and historical context. For a more well known and modern example, look no further than Intouchables (2011), which got dragged through the coals here on tumblr for being racist, completely ignoring the French cultural context surrounding it.
You guys can ship all you want, but can we not make this into something it's not?? The movie is beautiful on its own, and a very important piece of history that is still relevant today (the mafia is still a thing and a major problem for the south of Italy, guys, it's not fucking prohibition gangsters). But it sure as fuck isn't queer, and wouldn't have been read as such by the audience at the time (and, honestly, still doesn't to me).

every time someone on the fandom says harvey specter isn't a genius and he got where he is by working hard only, i laugh. it's literally an inside joke, harvey being smarter than everyone in the room i mean. harvey DID work his ass off to be who he is, but that doesn't mean he isn't smart as fuck. he hired mike, a fraud, on the spot just to ease his boredom that comes from being smarter than everyone else. that was literally the first episode, and also it's a running gag of the show ("how does other people feel like?"). i know people compare mike's genius with harvey's when they're saying that, but i don't think people understand that having an eidetic memory doesn't automatically make you a genius. there's a reason modern tests consist of knowledge and commentary questions both. also, the early show is filled with scenes of mike working his ass off. mike and harvey's geniuses are just different kinds. yes, having an eidetic memory feels like a cheat, but that's how every person with a talent feels like when you don't have it. it makes me feel negatively amazed when people say "well yeah harvey is better because he wasn't a genius like mike." my guy, harvey has more experience, that's the word you're looking for.
(also, a side note: if you guys think being a test genius is all there is to become a better/good lawyer or get ahead in life, just remember all the other associates that passed the bar and graduated from harvard who will never be significant or never make it to partner. mike's memory makes him extremely valuable in research and finding loopholes i'm not about to deny that, but don't forget that anyone else can do that in due time; mike simply does it way faster. and then, together with harvey, they come up with ideas on how to use this newfound knowledge, and that's where the real genius lies.)

If you give characters from fantasy settings that decidedly don't speak English in the first place (and it only appears as English to us, the audience, for our own convenience) a Southern USA accent just because they're farmers or from a rural area, expect me to glare at you in weary exasperation.

genuine question: i thought communism ideology supported no states? what do you not support with communism?

Apologies if this looks like I’m coming to you instead of research. Unfortunately research has lead my to discourse reddit threads and people speaking over another of what is true and right. It’s difficult for me to sort through what is actually backed and i always perfect to get first hand, personal opinions from individuals for conversation purposes! So a classless, moneyless society is socialism.
There are branches of socialism the same way there can be democratic and Republican beliefs within capitalism.
So communism is socialism with a state/government. This is what PSL is and advocates for.
And yeah im stepping on a fucking beehive saying this but yeah, Marxists/Marxists-Leninists support a communist state. For this exact reason, they deny that China has been persecuting Uyghur people. They think if they deny the genocide is happening at all then communism will seem more "valid."
Additionally, they think the genocide is little more than more anti-communist propaganda from the USA. Even Aljazeera has written about this.
Aside from that, yes PSL has organized with orgs like BLM before, but that said.... Ugh.
They speak over everyone. In fact, I've been told several times that they are now doing the same thing with the Pro-Palestine rallies they've been hosting, too.
As someone who worked with them closely during the BLM protests of 2020 I can confirm this with my own experiences. They're super organized, which is great for them. For the rest of us though, it means we have to work around their schedules. They spread their own parties propaganda at these events while making themselves out to be The Official Organization for the event which was almost never true. When they were at our events it's because they were invited by us, but everyone thought it was the other way around. They have a way of centering themselves which seems anti-thetical to their allyship.
They very much use minorities to boost their party's status. Which is not much different from how a democrat tries to get minority votes would.
I don't use Instagram but the USPCN and NAARPR posted about how PSL was doing this. I had just reblogged a post where PSL was calling for a strike in solidarity and was immediately informed to IGNORE it and boost actual Palestinians calls for action instead. They included a link to the Instagram post as well. I'll see if I can find it and reblog it after this.

it’s been a year since brendan moved to vegas, and you’re in colorado for usa volleyball. you guys facetime every night but can only manage to see each other in person once a month. it sucks and sometimes you even have doubts about the relationship, but you love him too much to ever end things with him.
you have a really important game tomorrow, which also falls the day before brendan’s birthday. it’s a whole mess, and you feel horrible knowing you won’t get to spend his birthday with him, but he’s been totally understanding of it all.
little do you know, brendan already has a plane ticket to colorado, and a ticket to your game. his flight leaves early tomorrow, which makes sure that when he arrives he’ll be there on time. you and brendan last saw each other a month ago, and you’ve both been trying to plan a time to see each other but nothings been working, or so brendan said. he may or may not have lied about his schedule so he could surprise you.

the game started only 10 minutes ago, and your team is winning. as you’re diving down to save the ball, you spot someone in the crowd who catches your eye. you almost do a double take, which would make you lose the ball but you keep your head in the game. as you save it the crowd roars with claps.
when you get the chance you glance back to that one person, and you see the familiar face of brendan brisson. a huge grin runs across your cheeks, and you now feel more nervous than before. you shake it out and continue playing the game to the best of your ability.
the game finishes and you guys take the win. all of your teammates are extremely happy and excited, but you couldn’t care less at the moment. all you want is to see brendan.
you hurry over to him and you both engulf each other in a huge hug. “surprise!” he says, as he sways you both side to side slowly. his head rests on top of yours, as his arms are wrapped around your torso. a few moments pass, and he then lifts his head from yours and kisses you. you pull back softly and hit his chest, “you didn’t tell me you were coming!”
