Chapitre 205 - Divine Providence Broken

MR PROBLEMS HIMSELF.
As usual he has more calm and grace than would be expected from someone who has caused so much trouble for literally every single living person - but of course he does, it’s Clow Reed.
But Clow Reed aside there are some incredibly fun visual choices all over this. Beneath his robes you can see the same kind of traditional clothing that Lava Lamp and his father wore, tying the bloodline together in a way you can actually see. He also has butterfly clasps holding the robe closed, which evoke Yuuko Ichihara but also a bit of Watanuki, who is just as much his descendant as Lava Lamp is (and there are two butterflies, which would match their duality).
Clow himself gazes peacefully out at scenery that we can’t see, but we CAN see the bare branches of a tree with three birds perched nearby. The birds could easily be argued to be a sign of anyone you really wanted it to be. Is it the remaining Tsubasa family - Fai, Kurogane, and Lava Lamp? Is Lava Lamp on a separate branch because he’s the only one of them who comes from a different timeline?
Is it maybe the three Syaorans, with Watanuki and Lava Lamp on one branch and our Clone Syaoran on another (or the other way around?)? Or is it the Sakuras, with the original ‘Sakura’ frozen in time on her own branch, while the other Sakura and her clone sit on the other?
Are the branches of the tree a sign of diverging paths in time? Of timelines cut off and restarted and choices leading into different directions? Is the number of birds a representation of that original timeline (ie, 1 bird) has now become a new timeline altogether, but resulted in more birds than there were originally due to the disturbance? Or is the fact that we see BOTH scenarios at the same time a sign that the broken universe can still be mended, and the three as a whole will grow again in the future? Or perhaps a sign of how Clamp's future vision worked, seeing multiple paths and timelines at once?
OR. Are they just pretty birds? The most deceptive option?!
Either way, we’ve had several other covers of the Tsubasa family standing in a dead-looking tree, and here we have Clow Reed calmly watching the same kind of tree - but from a distance.

something about laudna saying "once in a red moon-" as a figure of speech, at this point in the campaign, is so funny to me. It absolutely hits all the implications of the original saying, but with the bonus of "once in a red moon (that we know is actually a big ole cage for a god eater) (that is currently culminating in its red-moon-ness by Heralding The Endtimes) (and that gives magical powers and has cursed at least one of our friends)".
Like, once in a blue moon, per google, meaning "very rarely". once in a red moon, yeah it BETTER be fucking rare, goddamn.

At the end of the day, it just really sucks when you can't even enjoy a new release by your favorite artist because the greater internet has decided she's their acceptable outlet of misogyny and they have to comment or hate on her every move every single time.

I am astonished that neither Grue (who is black, and therefore a target in even more ways than the usual) nor Skitter (who is Skitter) even considers actually killing any of the three white supremacists who have just killed one of their allies and injured another ally and both of them. Especially after Skitter has abandoned her initial goal of eventually defecting and becoming a "hero" like she had wanted.
The entire E88 Nazi group has just declared war on a group of five kids. They have around 20 people with powers in the group, and this is three of them. One of the leaders is straight up cutting lines through the Docks, destroying whole buildings one after another, with who knows how many people inside. They have to know that every one of these people, especially the 20 or so capes, is an active threat to thousands of people, if not more.
Grue probably still has a few bullets left. Skitter has her knife, plus Cricket's two scythes are right there. Even heavily injured capes are rarely out of the fight for very long, and they certainly don't need more personal grudges leveled against the team. Maybe Hookwolf got away somewhere, but Stormtiger and Cricket don't need to.
Am I escalating faster than Our Lady Of Escalation herself? Finishing off two or three people who you've just been in a serious fight with, who are committed to killing far more than just you if they got their way (because they're fucking Nazis), that just seems like a proportionate response to the level of threat being presented right now. Still... maybe I wouldn't be much of a superhero either.

This is another difference between Hiccup and Horrendous, I believe.
Here in the book, Horrendous (aged 10 still) believes the warning at the front and that's why he doesn't want the coffin to be opened. He believes in the curse to the point of panicking when his father opens a supposedly cursed coffin.
In the movies and shows, Hiccup is a firm sceptic. He's familiar with their rituals and their deities, but doesn't seem to believe in them. Certainly not as much as, say, Fishlegs who was ready to blame disappearing islands on the wrath of Odinn or Thor. Astrid, too, seems to believe when she recalls the tale of her aunt who had to sail off the edge of the world to satisfy Odinn or something.
The only moment we've seen Hiccup believe in any way is when he and his friends made that tribute for Thorr, hoping it would stop the thunderstorms above Berk, thereby keeping scrutiny off Toothless' back.
Even when bones rain down from the sky, he calls it "weird" and still doesn't believe in this Fog Monster that supposedly took Johann's boat in the Breakneck Bog episode in Riders of Berk. He needs hard proof before he believes in anything supernatural or paranormal. (That or Toothless needs to be at risk)
Even so, I still don't think he would've just opened a coffin. Not because he actually believes in curses, but rather out of respect for the person inside.
Maybe it's the difference in age- one is 10, the other 15- maybe it's because the books do hint at magic and the mystic being real. (Apparently, Httyd and TWOO take place in the same universe?) Either way, an interesting difference between the two, for sure.
