I may have unlocked the secret to creating peace in my brain! The answer was painting tons of tiny little dashes.
Tumblr media
I've been trying to learn more art techniques, specifically to help improve my artistry in the shop. I don't have any sort of art education, so I just dive in and try things out.
This piece came about because our living room is decorated with a Detroit art theme and I've been searching for one finishing piece. So, I just decided to make it myself for now.
I have fallen in love with painting. I don't even care if my stuff is "good" in any traditional sense. The peace and joy it brings is so worth it.
Don't worry, pen making and woodwork are still our passion. This is just a nice way to turn off my brain at night before bed.
So, this is me telling you to get out there and try some new things! Creating something is so fulfilling. We have made plenty of fancy firewood, they aren't all going to be winners. Just get out there and enjoy the process!

Okay real talk the reason anti-intellectual memes/sentiments like this have been gaining popularity in the US in the last few years is because conservatives have been making an active, concerted effort to defund public schools entirely and recreate a world where any education is only accessible to the rich through private schooling being the only option. Poor kids will learn maybe basic reading and writing until they're old enough to work. And then they'll work. Billionaires don't want citizens. They don't even want people. They want compliant workers and consumers. They don't want us to do anything BUT work and consume.
People who read critically into art and literature are people who read critically into news articles and political speeches.
Thinking critically and deeply makes you difficult to control.
Critically engaging with art is some of the most rebellious shit you can do and I'm not kidding

So I use YouTube for news most times. I'm subscribed to Indian Country Today. It's a YT channel that goes over Native American and other indigenous news in America but it is a part of Arizona State University. I've watched the news from ICT for over a year now but if your interested in Native American and indigenous focused news give Indian Country Today at try. I see them as a small news organization that can't cover all indigenous peoples and their News but I want to share where I get some of my news on other Indigenous people.

Eat at a local restaurant tonight. Get the cream sauce. Have a cold pint at 4 o’clock in a mostly empty bar. Go somewhere you’ve never been. Listen to someone you think may have nothing in common with you. Order the steak rare. Eat an oyster. Have a negroni. Have two. Be open to a world where you may not understand or agree with the person next to you, but have a drink with them anyways. Eat slowly. Tip your server. Check in on your friends. Check in on yourself. Enjoy the ride.

I suppose some could accuse me of not paying enough attention to present day Japanese video game production. In the spirit of trying something new and unexpected, I downloaded the Steam demo for Nayuta Studio's second game project, Hollow Cocoon, and recorded a gameplay video as one does these days.
Little is known about this studio or its creators. Their previous work, Cineris Somna, was a one-off adventure the surface of which I barely skimmed. I only found out about it when browsing the catalogue of its publisher, Playism. This new project follows the footsteps of so many other first-person walking simulator horror games borrowing inspiration from the most recognizable J-horror cinema references. There is no end to my amazement at how influential P. T. turned out to be!
I had set my sights on this particular title because of the effort put into replicating the atmosphere of a Japanese country home from the 1980s, a few of its details bringing to mind the original joy of exploring the Hazuki residence. I was pleasantly surprised by how visually consistent the game is for a production of this size, and how the later afternoon indoor lighting summoned memories of my own childhood during that decade.
I doubt I will have the time or the disposition to play the final version but I thoroughly appreciated this detour from my usual routine.

FOR A NEW BEGINNING
by John O'Donohue
In out-of-the-way places of the heart,
Where your thoughts never think to wander,
This beginning has been quietly forming,
Waiting until you were ready to emerge.
For a long time it has watched your desire,
Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,
Noticing how you willed yourself on,
Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.
It watched you play with the seduction of safety
And the gray promises that sameness whispered,
Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,
Wondered would you always live like this.
Then the delight, when your courage kindled,
And out you stepped onto new ground,
Your eyes young again with energy and dream,
A path of plenitude opening before you.
Though your destination is not yet clear
You can trust the promise of this opening;
Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning
That is at one with your life's desire.
Awaken your spirit to adventure;
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.

I’ve seen a lot of people fretting over the recent D&D announcements. Why not take this opportunity to try a new game? There are HUNDREDS of fantastically cool RPGs that don’t suck. Can I suggest my own? The Magical Land of Yeld is fantasy adventure game about children from our world who discover a door to a magical land only to get stuck in the Kingdom of Yeld after their first adventure. They’ll have to challenge the evil Prince Dragul and his 7 Hunters of Yeld in order to gather the keys that will unlock their door home. If they can’t do this by their 13th birthdays they’ll become monsters and will be trapped in the magical land forever. The game focuses on exploration, travel, and friendship, with easy to learn rules presented as comic strips and deep customization. Fights take place on an action board inspired by turn based JRPGs like Final Fantasy Tactics. The game is created by myself and my brother Nick (designer of Classroom Deathmatch and Tulip Academy) and based on my long running webcomic Modest Medusa. We’ve built a world that is LGBTQ inclusive and compelling for all ages. So far we’ve released a dozen expansions for our game, as well as a cool 4 player Starter Set called Mermaid Hunters. We also have a Patreon where we release new content every month. You can buy The Magical Land of Yeld on our own site or DrivethruRPG. Your local shop can order our game directly from our distributor IPR. Just ask them too! - Jake YeldStuff.com YeldPatreon YeldTwitter Yeldtube Yeld Facebook Yeld Store Yeld on DrivethruRPG

Why is it that when you mention fanfic, and people say they read fic as well, 95% of the time they only read HP fic?
Nothing wrong with HP fic, at all.
But there's a whole world out there... don't be afraid to branch out...
