The creak of the door closing behind you lets you know there’s no turning back. Feeling overwhelmed already with the buzzing sound of chattering folks all around you, you make your way further into the Tipsy Bison to look for your company for the evening - a guy named Trevor, who you met a few weeks ago when you got put on the same patrol shift together.
All the other times you’ve been on patrol, your partner has been Joel Miller, and you’ve had absolutely no complaints - other than the fact that the man barely spoke a word to you the first time you met him five years ago. Naturally, though, the longer you spent with him, the more you both opened up to each other, making for a fun, new, budding friendship for you within the Jackson walls. What you haven’t opened up to Joel about, however, though, are your true feelings towards him.
Joel Miller is perfect in every way. He’s quite literally the only man you feel one hundred percent safe around, and he’s the only person here in Jackson you’ve really connected with. Every day you spend with him, you wish you were bold enough to make a move.
You know your feelings toward Joel won't stop any time soon, and you don’t even know why you agreed to go out with Trevor. He’s cocky and arrogant, yet cowardly and selfish, and definitely is just not your type; Joel is everything Trevor isn’t.
Much to your dismay, however, you know nothing can come of you and Joel, even if he was interested in you. Although the tension between the two of you is thick, you’ve convinced yourself it’s one sided. Surely his gruff, protective, and sometimes even flirtatious manners are just part of who he is. You’re positive he sees you as nothing more than a friend, or worse - some helpless woman he feels obligated to protect because she’s younger and weaker than him.
As you scan the busy room, you hear your name called from a relatively familiar voice. And when you look in the direction of the call, your eyes fall on your date, and your stomach drops.
You’d much rather be looking for Joel tonight.
It seems like forever before you realize you need a break from listening to Trevor drawl on about himself. You’ve zoned out and resorted to a fake smile and insincere nods, feigning interest in his obvious self-obsession.
But eventually, he asks a question that pulls you from your boredom like no other.
“Do you wanna get out of here?”
“What?” you ask, wondering if you’ve heard him correctly.
He cannot be serious. Does he really think talking about himself for an hour straight and not bothering to ask a single thing about you has convinced you to go home with him?
“You heard what I said. Let’s get outta here,” he smirks, and you have to bite your tongue to hold back from laughing.
“Trevor, we just met a few weeks ago.” you chuckle awkwardly, surprised at how forward he’s being.
“Doesn’t mean I can’t show you a good time,” he winks, and you have to stifle back a physical cringe at his failed attempt to be suave.
You smile uncomfortably, then stand up from your seat. “I’m gonna grab a refill” you tell him, making your way over to the bar.
Once away from your jackass of a date, you feel like you can finally breathe.
“Can I just get another water, please?” you ask the bartender behind the counter, but instead of hearing their response, you feel a sense of relief when you hear a familiar voice speak your name, instead.
However, that feeling of relief doesn’t last long, once your eyes fall on a sight that makes you sick to your stomach.
Joel is seated at the bar down a little ways, but with a woman beside him, her hand on his arm as she clearly tries to woo him. And not only that, but she’s gorgeous: flowing locks of dirty blonde hair frame her face perfectly, her plump, pink lips whisper little flirtations, and her pair of sparkling blue eyes are just beckoning him to her bedroom. Of course, you’re too distracted by her beauty and your jealousy to realize how uninterested Joel is in her advances.
“(Y/n), hi,” he repeats, and when you turn to meet Joel, the woman beside him seems to give up on her flirting as she gets up and walks away for the time being.
“Joel, what are you doing here?”
“Could ask you the same thing,” he replies lowly with a tilt of his head.
“Just… getting drinks with someone,” you shrug.
“Yeah?” he questions, not fully convinced. “Everything okay over there?”
“Yeah, why?” you feel the need to defend yourself, as if you need to convince Joel you’re doing okay, although you know that you’d much rather be with him for the night.
“You sure? He doesn’t strike me as the kind you’d hang around, Darlin’,” Joel replies, honestly meaning no harm.
“And you’d know that how?” you reply sarcastically, trying to cover up the fact that the nickname he calls you gives you the biggest rush of butterflies. “It’s just a date, Joel. It doesn’t mean anything,” you roll your eyes.
“I know it’s just… I saw you when I walked in. You just seem kind of uncomfortable. Wanna make sure you’re okay,” he reasons.
“I’m fine,” you snap back, suddenly feeling angry at Joel for some reason, although you know his intentions are good. But even briefly seeing Joel in the company of another woman sets you off, especially now that he’s trying to make it seem like he cares about you, when you know he doesn't think of you as anything other than a friend, at best.
“Darlin’,” he starts, but you interrupt him.
“Joel, I don’t need you watching over me like I’m some teenager out past curfew. I can hold my own,” you shake your head disapprovingly before grabbing your water from the bar, then brushing past him to return to Trevor.
“I didn't mean... M’sorry,” he mumbles in return, almost too late for you to hear as you walk away. But you catch it. And the sadness in his tone sticks with you for the rest of the night.
Joel’s heart breaks right then and there. All he wants is to help you and protect you - it’s just his nature. But seeing you with another guy, and one that he knows could never satisfy or take care of you the way he could - if he would ever buck up the courage to express to you how he feels - fills him with such an unbridled, unjustified rage.
He makes it his mission to keep a close eye on him for the rest of the night, although he feels guilty for invading your privacy. Then again, you’re in a public space, and Joel just has a feeling it’s the right thing to do. He knows that kid well enough to know he’s nothing but bad news.
Another half hour passes, and Joel’s female friend hasn’t returned to him, much to his content, - and yours, if you could only swallow your pride to look over at him to see that. Instead, he’s kept himself busy with listening in on your conversation and peering over every now and again, where he notices Trevor’s slight advances towards you, which are clearly unwanted.
He knows you’re a strong, independent woman, and he doesn’t want to overstep. But his instincts - and his anger - take over the second he sees the asshole’s hand slip from the table to your thigh and your face drops, a tell-tale sign you’re extremely uncomfortable. He can’t stand to see you in this situation.
“(Y/n),” he calls your name as he makes quick strides over to meet you, and your head spins in the direction of his voice for the second time tonight.
“Joel?” you reply breathily, both shocked by his presence but also grateful that it has seemingly scared Trevor’s hand off your thigh.
“Front door lock still giving you trouble?” he asks with a tilt of his head, hinting to you subtly he wants to talk in private. And though he knows the excuse is quick and not the best, he hopes you’ll catch on.
“What?” you stand up from the table, making your way out of earshot from Trevor, while ushering Joel back with a hand on his chest - and trying your best to ignore the way his rugged muscles feel beneath your palm.
“Do you need help?” he asks quietly, once the two of you are far enough away.
And even though your heart swells at the thought of Joel being so protective over you, it angers you for the same reason. Your hand falls from his chest and you shake both hands down at your sides.
“N-no,” you stammer feebly.
“You sure?” Joel asks like he did earlier, and for some reason, the genuine care and concern in his voice makes you even angrier.
“Yes,” you snap back, then swallow nervously as you grab your jacket from the back of your chair. “I was just leaving.”
Leaving both of the men behind you as you book it for the door, Joel’s heart aches at the sight of you walking out, knowing he’s just blown it with you.
“How you doin’, man?” Trevor slurs, clearly well past his limit, which could partially explain why he had been so bold towards you.
“Fuck off,” comes Joel’s grumble of a reply, heading out the doors, too.
But instead of following you out, like his instincts tell him to, he heads straight for his own house, where he sulks up to his bedroom and overthinks every moment of tonight.
Joel doesn’t sleep a wink that night.
Or the next night.
Or the night after that.
Three days pass before he anticipates seeing you again, when you’re scheduled to be on patrol together, and he’s a nervous wreck from the minute he gets up at four-thirty that morning to meet you by the post at five.
The sun is barely up by the time he gets there, where Tommy is waiting for him, but you’re nowhere to be found, which makes Joel’s already nervous heart sink to the ground.
His mind goes to the worst thoughts. Are you still on the schedule? Did you ask to be switched off after the night at the bar? Do you hate him now?
“Morning,” Tommy greets with a yawn.
“Morning,” Joel grumbles back. “What time is it?”
“Ten to. Why? Got somewhere else to be?” Tommy snarks back.
“No. Where’s (Y/n)?”
“How should I know?”
“Well, ain’t she my partner today? She’s normally here by now,” Joel explains gruffly.
“Maybe she’s on her way. Don’t matter, though. I’ll go out with you if she doesn’t show in time,” Tommy reasons, which is not what Joel wants to hear.
Luckily for Joel, you show up just one minute till five, and Joel is right; that is much later than you normally show up. But you sulked just as much as Joel did on the way here at the thought of seeing him again after your little dispute.
You’re embarrassed, but also eager to see him again; you want nothing but to apologize and make up, but also to stand your ground and stay angry at him. It’s all so confusing.
Shortly after Tommy gives you the radios, supplies, and a quick update, you and Joel head out on patrol, but not before you receive some extra ridiculing from Tommy about “someone needing her beauty sleep”. What Tommy doesn’t know is that you got just as much sleep as Joel had these past few nights, instead laying anxiously in bed thinking about seeing the man again.
Joel takes the lead as the two of you head off, neither of you saying a word for the fifteen minute trip out, and for the first ten minutes at the first lookout post.
“Morning,” Joel finally speaks up with his back to you as you look out on opposite sides of the vast landscape surrounding Jackson’s walls, long after you thought the entire patrol shift would be endless hours of silent agony and tension between the two of you.
“Good morning,” you reply cordially, but with no real emotion behind your words.
You’re not sure where you stand with Joel now after the situation at the bar just a few nights ago, and that hurts more than you can say. You’re mad at him but you’re also dying for his attention and affection more than usual. But you doubt he wants to talk to you after you snapped at him for simply trying to help you.
For so long, ever since you’d come to Jackson nearly five years ago, Joel was a safe place and your friend, above all else. But as soon as your little crush developed into something more, you knew it was something you would struggle with, especially with the way Joel treats you with such kindness and gentleness. You just couldn’t help falling for him the way that you did.
Another beat of silence passes; the only sounds to be heard are the quiet rustling of leaves and the chirping of the early morning birds. The beginning of the sunrise around you casts a golden hue on Joel’s stunning hazel eyes, and you’re almost too mesmerized by their beauty that you nearly miss when he starts to speak up again.
“Listen, I’m really sorry… About the other night,” Joel says after another few moments.
“It’s fine,” you shrug, feeling your heart beat nearly triple in speed at the pending conversation. You could not be more grateful that he initiated it, because you wouldn’t have known where to start. “I really do appreciate you helping me out of that. I’m, uh… I’m really sorry for being so rude.”
“I interrupted your date, Darlin’. You had every right to be rude,” he says softly, turning around to face you, and you mirror his actions at the same time. “I just worry about you, y'know?”
Your heart aches hearing those words leave his lips, but those feelings from that night are coming back to you now, and you’re starting to grow upset again. The whole situation has your brain muddled into a mess like no other.
“It wasn’t a date,” you turn away from him again as you mutter falsely in frustration both at yourself for even agreeing to go out with him, and at Joel’s stubbornly caring personality.
“I thought you said it was… just a date,” he returns with the echo of your own words from that night, clearly confused.
“I… I mean, it was a date. But not in that way,” you try to explain.
“Not in what way?”
“I don’t… Joel, I'm not interested in Trevor,” you sigh, turning around to face him for a second time.
“Why’d you go out with him, then?” he pushes further, and though his tone is soft, it comes off a lot more accusatory than he means for it to.
“I–” you start, but realize just how upset he’s making you. “I don’t have to answer that. Why should you care, anyways? You have… Blondie, don’t you?” you bark back, and it upsets you how immature you sound, like a jealous teenage girl.
“Blond… Huh?” Joel shakes his head as he struggles to understand you. “(Y/n), what in the hell are you talkin’ about?”
“I mean, that girl with you the other night couldn’t keep her hands off of you. You’ve got her, so why do you care about who I’m seeing?”
“What? (Y/n), that was just one of Maria’s... friends, I think. I didn’t even get her name. She was just very drunk. We are definitely not together.”
“Well, maybe you should tell her that. She was all over you, so I really don’t think you had the right to come up to me as if I was doing something wrong,” you spew out your anger through a sentence that doesn’t really even make sense.
“You weren’t doing anything wrong,” he shakes his head sincerely, try to understand what you've said while taking a hesitant step towards you. “I was just tryin' to help you. M'sorry.”
“But why do you even care? Pretending like you care! Pretending like I mean something to you when I know you don't see me as anything other than someone you have to look out for, out of obligation, and I know you have no intentions of being anything more!” you exclaim back, completely disregarding the twinge of pain in Joel’s voice he’d just let slip out as you place both of your hands on his chest and give him a good shove away from you.
“(Y/n), I like you!” he finally shouts, still staggering backwards from the force of your little push.
But the second those words blurt from his lips, Joel wishes he would have just stayed in bed this morning.
Nothing Tommy would have yelled at him for sleeping in and missing a shift would even begin to compare to the embarrassment of what he’s feeling right now.
He wants the ground to open up beneath him and swallow him whole so that you never have to see his face ever again.
“What?” you speak back breathlessly after a moment’s pause, needing to hear him again because you’re not even sure if you heard him correctly. Surely you must be hallucinating.
“Please don’t make me say it again,” he sighs shakily, turning away from you and indirectly confirming what you’d hoped he’d said.
“Joel,” you whisper, finding the courage to reach out and place a gentle, trembling hand on his broad shoulder, quite the opposite of how you’d pushed him away just seconds before.
He only responds with a quiet, reluctant hum.
“Please look at me,” your voice can barely be heard.
And he fulfills your gentle request, turning back around to you, cheeks red with embarrassment.
“M’so sorry,” he rasps, shaking his hung head.
“You have no reason to be sorry,” you say softly, then swallow nervously before continuing. “I… I like you, too, Joel,” you admit, and he looks up at you again, a small, barely-there smile drags onto his lips at your confession.
“You don’t have to say that just to make me feel better,” he scoffs lightly, using the tip of his boot to nervously scuff up some dirt from the ground.
“I’m not,” you insist. “Can’t you just accept someone’s affections?”
“Not when they're yours,” he smiles sadly and gives his head a slow shake.
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” your voice breaks, hating how you feel cared for but also rejected by him, all at once.
“You’re… We can’t… Darlin’, I—” he stammers, but you boldly interrupt him.
“Joel, just say it!” you exclaim almost hysterically.
“Alright!” he shouts back, clearly struggling with the vulnerability of the situation. “I just… You’re just enough younger than I am that I never would have thought you’d find me attractive,” he states nervously.
"Well, first, believe me, I find you attractive, Joel," you let out a quiet, shy laugh.
“Still grapplin' with that," he shakes his head and lets out a short chuckle of his own.
"And second, I’m very much an adult, Joel. We both are. The years between us mean little to nothing when the whole goddamn world is falling apart anyways,” you state with a small laugh. "Besides, I don't think anyone here in Jackson has the right to judge anyone else for what they're doing with their life. Have you seen some of the idiots that managed to settle here?"
"I suppose you're right," he laughs. "But then I guess I just thought, even on the off chance that you did reciprocate my feelings... Well, I was worried about what everyone ‘round here would say if we were together.”
“What do you mean?” you ask hesitantly, and he sighs reluctantly in response.
“Darlin', we're complete opposites. I’m the... lone wolf. You’re a social butterfly. Some folks here still hate me for what they’ve heard about me, and rightfully so. But you...” he then scoffs softly just to himself. “Darlin', Everyone adores you. I don’t think there’s a single person who could have one bad thing to say about’cha. We couldn't be more different if we tried.”
“Again," you start with a laugh. "I don't think anyone in Jackson has the right to judge us, Joel. And, so what if we’re different? Opposites attract, y’know,” you playfully nudge him.
“Clearly,” he chuckles softly, putting a smile on your face. "I guess I was just too stubborn to even let myself entertain the thought of askin' you out."
"I wish you would've," you giggle. "I've been doing it for too long, myself. Every time I see you, I have to hold myself back from making a reckless move. I was afraid I was nothing more than some annoying, inexperienced patrol partner you have to look out for."
“You're so much more than that, Darlin'. C’mere,” he then mumbles as he sets his gun down and takes yours from you, too, leaning them both up against the railing of the edge.
Then, he’s opening his arms as an invitation for you to enter them, and when you do, it’s the best sensation you’ve ever felt.
Joel Miller is a broad, sturdy man, but he’s somehow simultaneously so unbelievably soft, and you feel so safe in his arms, despite the literal threats of the world around you that you’re supposed to be looking out for at present.
“M’sorry for all this,” he chuckles, squeezing you tighter. “F’I hadn’t been such a stubborn old man, as Ellie says, I'm sure we could’ve avoided months of this confusion.”
“I agree with Ellie,” you laugh, pulling your head off his chest only to look up at him, admiring the way the orange highlights of the early sunrise make his eyes sparkle. “But if we had skipped all those months, then I wouldn’t have gotten this incredible hug, right now,” you tease with a laugh.
“Oh, Darlin’, you would’ve gotten a lot more than a hug by now,” he taunts you right back. “And I’d love to show you how much we’ve missed out on, but if Tommy finds out we were doin’ all this… canoodlin’... I’m afraid he’d never let us go out on patrol together again,” Joel laughs softly, then lets you go, handing you back your gun.
“It’d be worth it, though,” you say with a smile, then lean up onto the tips of your toes to press a dainty kiss to his scruffy cheek before heading down from the post to start on the patrol route before Joel can even register what you’ve done.
Pausing in your tracks then turning to look behind you when you don’t hear footsteps following you, you catch a glimpse of the man; hand just brushing over the spot on his cheek where your lips were, sporting a cherry red complexion in stark contrast to his silvery locks of hair and lush beard framing his face.
“Hey, old man,” you tease, placing a hand on your hip. "You comin' or what?"
“Right behind ya, Darlin’,” he shakes his head and scoffs at you as he slings his gun back over his shoulder where it belongs.
For as bold as he was just moments earlier, mentioning all the other things you could have done besides hugging, you know deep down, he's painfully shy, and such a softie. And you wouldn't have it any other way.

Predictions for Nocturne
(some serious speculation, some silly)
Imagining that one scene from Symphony of the Night where Alucard ends up fighting the fake Trevor, Sypha and Grant (Greta.) Cause him being in a situation where he has to kill an enemy that looks, acts, and fights exactly like the people he loved three centuries ago seems suitably heart-wrenching.
Wondering if Nocturne's going to partially follow the plot of Symphony where Richter is captured and controlled by Shaft the dark priest, so Maria and Alucard are searching for him. I'm basing this solely off the female voice in the teaser (possibly Maria?) saying, "We're looking for someone called Belmont."
So Richter's character arc would be him attempting to regain his honor after all the harm he caused under Shaft's influence?
Part of me legitimately wonders if St. Germain is gonna be back. Yes, this is a nod to his Curse of Darkness design, but his clothes here are not medieval. (More Victorian than anything?)
Nocturne is supposed to take place during the French Revolution, the first of three beginning in 1789. The top hat is believed to have been invented in 1793. French gentleman wearing the latest fashion?
The series never specifically says St. Germain is from the same time period he wound up in after his first encounter with the Infinite Corridor. Is this why he knows about stuff like toilet paper and is constantly looking down his nose at all the filthy medieval people? Is he just being a whiny bitch about being sent back in time?
He tells Trevor that he knew his family. Is this because he met the descendants? (I suppose this could be his twisted reconciliation about betraying them since he's seen the 'future' and he knows the line endures and Alucard is still alive.)
This is wild speculation that probably won't be the case, but I kinda really want this to happen since Alucard's reaction to a human he thought was dead for three centuries just casually showing up out of nowhere would be priceless.
The French Revolution was the era of powdered wigs and shockingly fabulous courtly decadence and the Queen having a frickin' boat in her hair.
If we don't get at least one vampire (or Belmont) in a stupidly ostentatious wig, then what are we even doing?
Two schools of thought in my head:
Hoping Nocturne also does not include the Succubus as an overtly sexualized character in the interest of not objectifying women.
On the other hand, a discomfited Alucard looking the demon lady right in the eye and saying, "Madam, kindly remove yourself from my personal space," is a very humorous image.
On a more serious note, there is also the Nightmare scene in Symphony of the Night to consider where the Succubus shows Alucard a vision of his mother right before her execution in an attempt to trick him, so there's potential for a, "How dare you make me relive that!" moment.
Can these two come back? They did not get enough screen time in the first round.
Striga's last line to their soldiers is an order to ride west. France is west.
Also, is it really an accident that Morana's hairstyle in Season 4 is a French twist? Foreshadowing....

Michael De Santa:
He’s got money and he’s not afraid to use it. He picked up on your love for the music early on with how often you play her songs or mention that she’s playing a concert nearby. He’s buying you the best tickets money can buy. He’s buying you vinyls. He’s buying you merch and backstage passes. Anything you want.
He’d buy you a private concert if you asked.
He’s older and old school. He’s more into older rock/pop from his era. But if you want to listen to her music everywhere you go, he’s going to let you do it with a smile.
Tracey will occasionally tag along to concerts with you. She’s younger and more into the music than Michael is. And it’s a good way for the two of you to bond. Michael gripes about it the whole time though. He’s glad you two get along but he’d imagined getting to spend time with just you.
He never gets annoyed with how obsessed you can be with the music. He’s just the same with his obsession with old films and he wants to give you the floor to talk all you can about the things you enjoy the same way you let him.
Trevor Philips:
He’s mostly into old school, classic punk rock. But he thinks your obsession is honestly cute. He loves watching you get excited over talking about her music, or when you show him your latest favorite song.
He’d sneak you in, or threaten his way past security to get you a one on one meeting with her if he thought you’d want to. There are no ends he wouldn’t go to to get you what you want.
Buys you bootleg merch for cheap not knowing that it’s a knockoff and poor quality. Act like you enjoy it and that it’s exactly what you wanted. He’s trying really hard.
He tries desperately to get into her music for you. Like, he’s happy you enjoy it. But he wants it to be a shared interest between you. He probably won’t really vibe with it, but he knows all the lyrics and even has albums he enjoys more than others. It’s not his favorite music, but he now knows so much about her that it’s a bit more fun to talk to him about.
He has Chef or Ron show him how to follow her on social media and get updates on his phone about any new music or tour dates so he can get you tickets or be the first one to show you a new song. He loves seeing your face light up when he’s the first to point out something new you may like.
Franklin Clinton:
He’s definitely heard of her, he may have even heard some of her songs on the radio and not even noticed. He’s not a die hard fan like you, but he’s not totally oblivious like Trevor or Michael.
Lamar definitely picks on him if he gets in the car and her songs are still blasting over the radio from the last time you were in the car. It used to irritate him that Lamar picked on him, but over time he just lets it go and keeps the music playing where you left off to annoy Lamar.
He’ll go to concerts with you, buy you limited vinyls, merch, and the best seats money can buy. He’s your biggest fan, and he wants you to be happy. So, anything you want, he’s getting.
He’s not a huge fan, but he does secretly like some of her songs. You’re the only one allowed to know though. He’s even caught himself singing along with you in the car while you play her music. He’d be mortified if Lamar caught him, but with you he’s just focused on how big you smile when he sings her songs to you.
He’s had you put together a whole playlist of your favorite songs of hers to play when you’re sitting around at home or in the car. If you ask, he’ll sing with you or dance around the house with you while the music plays.

I saw Frozen Empire, so obviously I have to talk about it. Spoilers ahead.
Also disclaimer that these are my personal feelings, so if we disagree that's okay too!
So, overall I would rate the movie as good. Not my all time favorite in the franchise, I think that will always go to the original, but I enjoyed it. The story could have used a little work in some parts, but hey, nothing is perfect.
Favorite part of this whole movie: one Dr. Raymond Stantz, hands down. He is so cute as an old man-child whose enthusiasm hasn't waned the least bit over the years. Honestly, in Afterlife he seemed like he'd become cynical, but here his true nature really rang through. And I adore him being a mentor for Phoebe and the other younger characters, while also getting into mischief with them. That little sparkle in his eye when Phoebe asks "Aren't you retired?" No, Ray is never retired, he will always be ready to suit up.
I also loved in the police station when Phoebe was standing up to Dickless Peck, Ray had this face like he was so proud, like he could see Egon in her, memories of him saying "YOUR MOTHER!" 😆
The other thing I liked about the movie was the expansion of the Ghostbusters as a business, with the research lab. First off, I love that Winston, the one who didn't even believe in ghosts when he was hired, is now almost like the CEO of the company. But also, it opens up more possibilities for this new era and allows for more playing with the world building. Though I feel like it was a wasted opportunity to put in some easter eggs for TRGB. Unless the ghosts featured were in the (*shudder*) Q5 episodes, I didn't recognize any of them from the show. Then again, I guess they're newer ghosts so that wouldn't make sense, but maybe they could have been similar kinds of ghosts. Just as a small reference.
Other favorite parts include:
-The near-lesbian romance between Phoebe and Melody
-Ray smuggling the Mini Pufts from Oklahoma (because of course he would)
-Also just the Mini Pufts in general (why are they so violent?)
-The way Ray's face lit up when Peter came to the firehouse
-Peter being proud that Ray quit smoking
-Peter's unwavering faith that Ray's idea is good and will work, and saying they all trust him
-The library ghost (did they never go back to get her???)
-Gary saying the words to the theme song
-Janine in uniform!
-Slimer eating the pizza with the posesser ghost in it
Now, onto the areas that I felt were not as strong. First of all, I found it wild that Phoebe was being ousted by everyone without any kind of fight. She's the one that started the whole thing up again, she's got the passion, she's got the brains, she's got the glasses and the curls! Her mom says a grand total of NOTHING to defend her in Peck's office, and they all just accept that she can't be a Ghostbuster anymore. Yeah, they don't want to get sued, but it's just weird to me that they don't even seem like they feel that terrible that she got benched. Callie and Trevor are very callous about the whole thing. Only Gary seems like he gives a shit, and he's not even her dad. The way Phoebe's benching ended wasn't all that satisfying either. It would have been nice for the other three to maybe struggle a little without her, realize they need her to balance the team, and try to find a way to get her back. Winston was really the one that got Peck off their backs in the end, no thanks to anyone else (also, I'm pretty sure in that scene, someone in the crowd yells 'dickless' 😆).
Side note, I really don't like Callie's character that much. I think she's self-centered and doesn't seem to care about the kids' feelings unless the situation becomes dire. Maybe she does deep down, but mostly her attitude about everything stinks. Idk, I wouldn't care if she wasn't in the movie at all.
Anyway, back to the plot. I liked the idea of Phoebe's plotline. I wish they'd gone all the way and had her and Melody kiss, I really thought that was coming when she separated from her body. But I have an issue about that particular moment. The decision to suddenly put herself in the chamber like that seemed to come out of nowhere, at least I thought so. They made it like Melody was supposed to be the one tricking her into doing it, but she really never said anything to convince her. Phoebe just decided on her own to try it. I know she mentioned a couple of times wondering what it would feel like to be a ghost, but it wasn't a strong enough buildup to such a risky move. Honestly, when she asked Ray about him wanting to be a ghost, coupled with Winston saying Ray was going to get himself killed, I thought they were foreshadowing killing Ray (and thank God they didn't!).
They also hint at Phoebe specifically being the one that needs to be used but why? Anyone could have been tricked into the chamber and been controlled by Garaka for the chanting.
But moving on from that, the other issue I have is with the firemaster. He was a little too good at controling the fire after what, a couple of hours of practice? I think the character could still work, he could still be a quirky weird guy, but I think I would have made him more of a reluctant inheritor of his grandma's powers. Maybe he struggles with it at first and he figures he can sell the artifacts to Ray to get rid of the responsibility. Then later he can finally accept his fate to help beat Garaka when he starts believing in himself.
Those are the only major parts that I felt could have been tweaked. Besides that, I would have loved to see Slimer and Ray get a moment, just as a nod to their friendship in the show, but I guess they want to stick to one continuity. Of all the things they could have referenced from the show, though, it had to be the Junior GB 😆 It was just a throwaway line, but still, I don't want to remember they were a thing.
Tl;dr, the movie was good and there were a lot of parts I really enjoyed. For the parts that were weak, I'm confident there will be another in the future, so hopefully they'll keep improving.
Also, who the hell voted for Peck to be mayor? I bet he rigged the election.

Alright, it's time.
As someone who is pro-"adaptations should differ in some ways from the original material" because that's basically the definition of "adaptation", NFCV is a good example of the limit it has to have. Or, at least, the limits I have.
When one wants to adapt a story from one media to another, sacrifices are bound to be made. Changes are meant to happen. You cannot put, in your adaptation, every single detail the original material had. It would be too long, you need to choose the most important parts of the original media in order to make it shine properly. Wich means some characters will have to be erased, some plots too, all in order for the adaptation to offer a fluent and enjoyable experience for everyone. Even those who already know the original material. Of course, those people will sometimes feel sad about a part or a character they really liked but didn't see in the adaptation... but that doesn't make the adaptation bad.
In my opinion, what makes an adaptation good, is when it respects the core of the original work. It can be many things (and it's multifactorial). The message it wants to pass on, it's universe, it's characters, it's lore... it varies from work to work (you can have work focusing on a main character's story, in this case making an adaptation without this character doesn't make sense. It can be a work telling the stories of a world, in this case, with no main protagonist, an adaptation can change the characters...). You can add many changes to a work you are adapting to a new media (or new audience), but it stops being a faithful or "good" adaptation the moment you erase the core of the original work.
And that's why Netflixvania is not a good adaptation.
Ignoring the questionable writing, the "CHURCH BAD" theme, the overdose of curses and gross dialogues (and so many other nasty writing stuff)... Netflixvania misses the point of the franchise it's adapting entirely. And the few easter eggs here and there are not enough to make up for it.
You can make Alucard bisexual. You can make the Belmont clan a noble family in Trevor's era. You can make Isaac black. Those are details that does not affect the core of the franchise. It might make a few grind their teeth, but that's all. No, the problems go way deeper than that.
Castlevania's core is it's themes. It's lore.
Castlevania is the story of a seemingly endless cycle of revenge, tragedy and wars. Of generational trauma, with the Belmonts fated to hunt the night and kill Dracula centuries after centuries with no escape. It's this theme of having to fight evil all the time because it will never truly go away, with or without the Belmont clan.
Dracula is not just a vampire king ruling over vampires, he's the Demon King. He's the Dark Lord. He's Chaos personified, with Death as his servant and confidant. He rules over so much more than just vampires (and there is more than two humans who swore their lives to him). And he brought this fate upon himself.
The Belmonts are not just a clan. They are humanity's symbol of hopes, dreams and strenghth. They are total opposites to and complete Dracula. The Belmont-Dracula duality is essential to the Castlevania franchise. They are the pillars of Castlevania.
What themes does NFCV has? Church bad. Humans bad. Christianity dumb. A bit of father-son tragedy.
The only common theme is this father-son tragedy, but it is barely touched (we don't even have the time to fully appreciate Dracula and Alucard's relationship before and after they first fought.) and it became one of the main themes of the cartoon. And it would've been fine... if the adaptation didn't threw out the window what made Castlevania Castlevania in the same breath.
Trevor doesn't have any duality with Dracula here. We barely mention the fact Leon went to Transylvania to hunt Dracula down. We don't feel any deep connection, when in the games, Leon was literally Dracula's friend. They worked together, fought together, they were unstoppable together, and when Mathias turned, he offered Leon eternity by his side. He cared deeply. And Leon decided... no. His own morals, his dead betrothed's wishes, they came first. And so came these lines from Leon:
"You have become a cursed being and I will never forgive you. This whip and my kinsmen will destroy you someday. From this day on, the Belmont Clan will hunt the night."
And this is why Trevor had to be the one to kill Dracula. Alucard still could've had his tragic moment, seeing his father dying by the hands of his friend is really messed up, and it would've make a potential SoTN adaptation where he would have to kill Dracula by himself this time more powerful (we'll get to Nocturne in due time.). But it isn't what happened. Trevor barely participated in the fight. It was a Dracula VS Alucard starring Trevor and Sypha.
Trevor isn't Dracula's friend, but this promise, this curse Leon put on his own family so long ago, it created a kind of bond beetween Dracula and Belmonts that would last for centuries. I talked about them, about how deep it goes, here and here.
Dracula created the Belmonts as they are now. The Belmonts created Dracula as he is now, too.
NFCV doesn't care about that. NFCV turned Dracula into a vampire lord not even capabe of keeping his own generals in line. NFCV belittled the Belmont clan's importance (one brief scene where the court (mostly Carmilla) is like "oh, what, a Belmont? one of those vampire hunters? alive? wtf" is not enough). NFCV belittled Trevor himself (a few nice-looking fight scenes is not enough). It belittled the Vampire Killer (the most powerful Castlevania weapon, created with alchemy and infused with the soul of Leon's betrothed. there is so much tragic story potential around this weapon alone). It belittled EVERYTHING it took from the games. And I haven't even touch Isaac and Hector (they deserve their own post), who have been done so, so dirty.
NFCV ignored so many things that gave Castlevania his identity that it just became it's own thing, wich butcher the franchise's name. So many NFCV fans don't know the games even exist, or mix it up with the cartoon when they have little to nothing in common (Lords of Shadow had more in common than NFCV. And it was not insulting to the OG universe). And let's not get started on people praising the show for being "better" and how some character got "improved" when in reality, it's written by people who don't get said characters or games and stop at the surface. Just like they stop at NFCV's surface. That's why they think it's good. (loving a show doesn't mean said show is good, sorry)
I used to think "it's okay if the adaptation is not faithful, as long as it's good/enjoyable". And you know what? This kind of mentality is what lead to NFCV. I no longer stand by it. (maybe I should thank NFCV for making me see my limits)
And that's not because I'm a purist. As I said earlier, I'm all for adaptations making changes. But I am also all for respecting the source material as well ("respecting" just doesn't mean "doing everything exactly the way it was originally" to me, unlike... way too much people). And NFCV is not.
And as a show itself, ignoring the "adaptation" part? It's not that great either. If you get critical and think deeper about things, you'll start to see everything that is wrong. It's easier to ignore the problems and enjoy the parts you do like when you don't know the games. It's almost impossible to do when you do know and love the games.
When you need to turn off your brain to truly enjoy a show, it's not the proof of a great writing.
But oh... That is only the first Netflixvania. :) This far, you can actually call it faithful to the games, compared to the soon to air Nocturne. :) (it actually hurts me to say)
You cannot look at the trailer and pretend it's even trying to be Castlevania. It's an original work who stole Castlevania's name and characters. With the first serie, you could've use the first, maybe the second season to pretend it was trying but "oh, the games don't have enough story to adapt" (shitty excuse btw). But here? Oh, no. No no no. It is NOT trying anything.
It happens during the french revolution, it seems it's gonna tackle racism and slavery (I do NOT trust the show to portray the french revolution correctly. nor racism. nor anything). Richter's tragedy is apparently going to revolve around the death of his mother, so you can say bye bye to the whole generational trauma and the weight of centuries of his family hunting Dracula (since it's not where NFCV went to begin with) and protecting the world now being on his shoulder and how it affects his psyche and- I mean DAMN. That is such a DOWNGRADE. But it's only the trailer. We'll have to wait for the whole season to air to see how bad it truly is. But I do not trust them to make Richter, one of the most beloved Castlevania characters, shine the way he deserves. I do not trust them to make Castlevania shine at all. Nothing this far can make a games' fan think of said games (probably because it's not for the games' fans.)
But we know it won't be about Richter anyway. Just like NFCV, it will be about everyone but the Belmont of the show. I mean it's logic, since it's the way NFCV went. At least that's coherent.
And everyone knows the sole reason why they went from ""CV3"" to ""RoB/SotN"" directly is because of Alucard, the true main character of NFCV. The trailer just dropped and you already have people asking where Alucard is.
There is so much details I could rant about. But this isn't about details (nor ranting, really). This isn't about every little thing that only makes the cartoon even more of an insult to the games (even if those details, piling up, ARE important). This is about the bigger picture. This is about Castlevania's heart getting crippled and shat on in favor of a pseudo-mature show getting off to his pseudo-deepness.
Games and shows are different medias and thus, are bound to have different ways to tell their stories. One is not lesser than the other.
The Castlevania games have a story. It has a lore. It has themes. It's character have personnalities. But it's not a cartoon. It cannot show it by literally making the characters talking about how deep they are. They can't make cutscenes just to tell "I have a tragic backstory". It has to be shown in more subtle ways. It uses the decors. It uses the way the characters stand, or walk, or attack. It exploits the few cutscenes and dialogues to tell the most important informations. And yes, sometimes, it has to use the manual to give infos about the lore or characters. That is not a lesser way to do so. It's a way to adapt to the games' limits in order to tell their story. (also, CoD literally have two mangas to it's name. make your choice on wich version you like most)
There is so, so much potential in Castlevania. And if you get into the games, if you play them, if you just read the wiki or look at the posts of people talking about the lore, the characters, the games and analyzing them, you'll know... NFCV is a waste of an adaptation.

as promised the separate comics/graphic novels roundup for 2023! this is a normal post until May when I realized I could (as a graphic novel librarian) become an Eisner voter and read 54 comics in a month (and then slightly less so in August when the Harveys came up.) below a cut because it's heinously long. I'll include my little write-ups and some panels right after my faves
JANUARY
Under the Red Hood by Judd Winick and Doug Mahnke
I read this January second. Begin as you mean to go on! For all its flaws (Dick's Squidward face) the emotional arc of this story puts me right into the pit about Jason Todd.
Superman: Reign of the Supermen by Dan Jurgens and others
Batman/Superman: World’s Finest (ongoing) by Mark Waid, Dan Mora, and Travis Moore
First off Dan Mora draws everyone like the most beautiful people in the world, which never hurts to look at. But also this is just a really fun comic! The action is fun the characters are very sweet and we get an honest to god Superbat gem fusion
Young Justice (1998) by Peter David and Todd Nauck
MY CHILDREN! I was finishing up my Tim readthrough and was so delighted to meet Kon and Cassie and Bart and Cissie and Anita (I still don't care for Lobo.) Nauck's art is cartoony in a way that fits the comic really well.
Red Robin by Christopher Yost, Fabian Nicieza, Ramón Bachs, and Marcus To
THEEEEE ARC for Tim. Everyone says read Red Robin. Yes read Red Robin but also understand this is him at his worst and most scrungly. This is not normal Tim. This is Tim's failgirl era.

You and a Bike and a Road by Eleanor Davis
Beautiful little memoir comic about biking across the US, and also about borders and travel and isolation/togetherness.
Superman for All Seasons by Jeph Loeb, Tim Sale, and Bjarne Hansen
I love this comic. Tim Sale draws Clark like the biggest, softest person you've ever seen, and Bjarne Hansen's colors are so gentle. (if you remember the rock metaphor from mission parameters, it's inspired by this scene from Book 1: Spring)
APRIL
Superman: Lost by Christopher Priest and Carlos Parlaguyan (ongoing)
This series cuts right to the horror of being Superman and also the horror of being Lois Lane SO deftly. a few plot points I don't love but overall God it makes me miserable
Birds of Maine by Michael Deforge
A delightful, dreamy collection of comics about birds living in a utopian society on the moon. The art is weird, the story is weird, everything about it is lovely.

Divinity v1-2 by Matt Kindt and Trevor Hairsine
The City of Belgium by Brecht Evans
This is not a perfect graphic novel but the stuff it does with art and page and rhythm is so so phenomenal.
Lights, Planets, People! by Lizzy Stewart and Molly Naylor
Killadelphia v1-3 by Rodney Barnes, Jason Shawn Alexander, and Christopher Mitten
The Department of Truth v1-4 by James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds
This is a book about conspiracy theories and it is DEEPLY unsettling. Martin Simmonds' art makes me legitimately queasy to look at. Really really good but also it did send me into a little spiral for a bit.
Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely (Mat Lopes' colors also deserve a shoutout)
This book made me cry! Also I have yet to read another Kara comic because this one was so good and I'm afraid the others won't be. She's sharp and angry in all the best ways and also deeply deeply caring and good. Capes meets space fantasy at its best. I would die for Ruthye

I really need to read v2 because this was so fun. Queer backwoods horror, sarcastic, delightful, and never heavy-handed. I read this right after Killer Queens, which read like someone fed a bunch of Drag Race episodes and 2012 tumblr posts into a comics generator, and Heartstopper, which was so blandly unobjectionable I actually forgot I'd read it, so I Hate This Place felt refreshing as hell. (actually while looking up screencaps I remember why I didn't read v2 which is that v1 has a LOT of gore and body horror and I gotta be careful with that stuff. however if you like a slasher go forth)
It’s Lonely at the Center of the Earth by Zoe Thorogood
Gut punch on every page. Thorogood's art is weird and wild. It does feel a bit as though she's opened up her ribs for us to peruse.

This was one of my favorite books of the whole year. Beautiful meditation on the compromises of marriage and motherhood in beautiful, sparse drawings that lingered with me long after I'd finished reading.

Liu and Takeda are back! This time with some horror about a pair of siblings and their fucked up parents. Great stuff.

When a good crossover storyline works, it really really works. I love to see Bruce completely blow up his life because he doesn't see any point in existing outside the cowl anymore. Even more do I love to see the fallout from this on everyone who loves him! delight delight delight.

looks like james/aidan is safe- james being out is sad but i like aidan better anyways and i think having them not both in the competition is good for keeping the relationship solid. last thing i wanted was contrived relationship drama when that was their entire thing last season and finally got resolved.
that said i am so here for the petty tom/jake drama. like this is the same conflict they've had like four times already but it's not like they've ever fully resolved it since the reason it keeps happening is that they both suck at communicating. and i love the idea of aidan and tom being totally platonic friends while jake SEETHES in RAGE for no reason

hunter seems a lot worse than last season but like. not in a bad way. like his and ally's relationship tension feels realistic given the start of it and the fact that tess was out of the picture for a bit (and now stuck on another team). curious to see what all they do with that

Some Speaker Headcanons
Okay, so last night, for the first time in months, I opened up the document for Right Here, Always. So I may actually finish this fic yet.
But in the meantime, here are some Speaker headcanons I included in the story:
They Don't Travel During the Winter
At least not in the mountainous regions where the weather can turn nasty unexpectedly.
"It’s hard for Speakers to travel in the winter months, especially after storms when the roads are impassable. Since we don’t want to run the risk of being stranded in the wilderness without aid, we often settle in one area temporarily. Usually at monasteries where we can earn our keep by helping the monks copy, repair, or translate manuscripts. It could get pretty tedious.”

They Don't Practice Marriage
Or rather, similar to the Ancient Egyptians, they don't have a specific ceremony or rites. Closer to what we'd consider a committed, long-term relationship.
Trevor frowned at her in surprise. “What brought this up all of a sudden? I thought Speakers didn’t even practice marriage.”
“Well…yes, we do. That’s a common misconception,” she said. “We don’t hold any specific rites or ceremonies that a church would recognize as a marriage, but we do marry in a sense. By the standards of my people, since we share a bed and we have a child, the two of us actually are married. I just thought…your parents were wed according to their faith. And yours. There’s nothing that says we need to adhere solely to my people’s traditions. I suppose I thought it might be important to you. Is it?”

Sypha's Parents
I normally assume Sypha's parents have passed away by the time the series takes place--either by illness, religious persecution, accident or whatever other nastiness the medieval era had to offer--but I suppose the red-haired guy standing in the back of the above group shot could be her father who just doesn't have a speaking role?
Blonde lady in this shot may be her mum? I dunno. This series does ride on a bare minimum voice cast, so that could be possible. Otherwise, this whole group is probably related somehow.
Ultimately in the fic, I went with the idea her mother died in childbirth, which added some anxiety for Sypha with her own pregnancy. Her father died of an illness before she was old enough to really remember him. Which again adds some depth over how close her own daughter came to losing her father before she could remember him.
...
Anyway, I don't know when Chapter 8 will be done, but it isn't forgotten. I'll get there.

More random North Yankton Era headcanons-
(TW: referenced drug use, Trevor’s mom)
Michael used to, begrudgingly, invite Trevor and Brad to Tracey and Jimmy’s birthday parties. Those days would be one of the times, few and far in between, that both of them would be on their best behavior. Trevor would try to show up sober, or at least not totally blasted if he couldn’t manage not to get high or drunk. And he and Brad would collaborate on what to buy the kids. Brad was better at picking out things Jimmy would like- video games, action figures, a skateboard one year, and even a small tv with a built in VHS player to have in his room. And Trevor was great at picking out Tracey’s gifts- play set make up, the most current dolls, tea sets, those little dress up sets with princess dresses, and one of those outdoor castle play houses.
When Amanda would make Michael spend alone time with the kids and take them to places like Chuck E Cheese or to go watch children’s movies at the cinema, he would make Trevor and Brad come with him. Trevor would get way too into the games at the little arcades and hog them from the kids. Collectively, Trevor and Brad watched Shrek almost eight separate times and the Rugrats movie at least ten times. Trevor cried during both movies.
Brad disliked Michael because he was jealous of his relationship with Trevor and because of how arrogant and controlling Michael behaved. And Michael disliked Brad because he perceived him as stupid, and he hated how reckless and careless he was during scores. But, that being said, neither of them knew that the other one hated them. They would have occasional snarky arguments, and even got into a drunken fist fight once, but for the most part they were fake as fuck to each others faces. Brad would talk shit about Michael to Trevor, and Michael would talk shit to Lester about Brad.
If Michael hadn’t betrayed them, and Trevor and Brad had left out on their own, they probably would have died after only a couple of years together. Trevor would have spiraled deeper into drug usage to cope with not having Michael around and feeling betrayed by him; he and Brad would have grown more and more violent and reckless until they’d have slipped up on a score and both been put down by police during a shoot out.
When they would all stay together for extended periods of time, they would all go grocery shopping together. Michael would get practical things that would be quick and easy to eat, while Trevor followed him around and loaded up the shopping cart with chips, soda, candy, and other snacks Michael would yell at him about them “not needing”. For every practical thing Michael added to the cart, Trevor would add five impractical ones. The trips that should only last about twenty minutes could last over an hour with the games Trevor would play. More often than not, Brad would go in behind them to pretend he wasn’t with them, grab a few cases of beer, and go back out to the car to drink and wait on them.
Trevor and Brad fucked on more than one occasion. They never talked about it, usually only Trevor was allowed to initiate it, and Trevor always bottomed. It wasn’t exactly a secret, but Brad knew well enough to keep his mouth shut for fear of Trevor getting angry he told anyone. Michael knew too but honestly didn’t want to get into whatever kind of personal business the two were having when he wasn’t around.
Brad and Michael had both met Trevor’s mother on more than one occasion. The first time they met her, she instantly took a liking to Michael and put on a sweet act for him. It honestly fooled Michael into thinking she was just a sweet woman worried about her son's crazy lifestyle….for about five minutes.
It was when the three of them all went to a diner to eat, and Trevor carefully reached around her to grab the salt that Michael realized she was actually the devil. When Trevor barely brushed his mothers shoulder in an attempt to reach around her she reacted instantly by grabbing her fork and stabbing him through the hand, screaming about him being a “wretch” who’d “assault his mother” by pushing into her. Michael’s opinion instantly changed and he quickly came up with an excuse for them to leave.
On the other hand, Trevor’s mother instantly hated Brad. He met her when she’d shown up at the motel he and Trevor were staying at, and when Trevor shuffled over to her and tried to hug her, she hit him so hard it brought him to his knees and made him cry. Brad, of course, saw the whole thing but kept his mouth shut, and because of Trevor’s odd relationship with his mother he knew better than to say anything to him. During the whole time she was speaking with Trevor and stopping by to visit, Brad didn’t speak to her. She later complained to Trevor about how “rude” the company he keeps was because the “big, blond one” wouldn’t even speak to a “kind old woman” such as herself.

You know, I can't help but feel as if the games already had a compelling character arc for Richter that the show just blindly ignored in favor of making him more like Trevor, which defeats the point of making changes for the sake of creativity.
You have this hotshot hero, best of the best, at his total prime and everybody loves him, but there's a darker side to him, an existential insecurity about the implications of his role, and what happens if he's fulfilled it; Where does he go next? What else is he good for? Is Richter a soldier who's come back from the battlefield and is suddenly expected to just go back to living a normal life?
And that creates the setup for his fall from grace when Shaft exploits those emotions, which could lead to a compelling humbling arc where Richter ultimately comes around and triumphs over his demons and arrogance to do the right thing. There are still consequences, like the Vampire Killer rejecting him, but that sets up Bloodlines and Portrait of Ruin, and eventually, things heal when Julius steps up for the War of 1999.
It's just such a very distinct and fascinating way to deconstruct the legendary hero, so you'd think Netflixvania would be all over that with its darker tone, but it just makes something up. So I don't really buy the excuse of "There's not enough to work with," at least in THIS aspect of adapting the Richter era.
im really hoping that by 'making him more like trevor' you mean making him more like netflix trevor, but i wouldnt actually know much about that since i cant stomach even 5 minutes of the first nfcv ^^'
richters character arc is indeed incredibly interesting, being one of the most well-defined and intentional arcs of any castlevania character, considering his multitude of little accidental parallels with trevor or not -- in fact, i feel like if you wanted to adapt ANY castlevania plotline into something faithfully, richters story across rondo and sotn would be the best, because of how much youre already given and how clear-cut it is in comparison to someone like, well, trevor, who is most likely so strange in curse of darkness because he needed to act as a bit of a plot device and the writers didnt think too much about whether or not his actions might conflict with characterisation given and informed by an nes game -- this goes for arikado, too, as for why hes so very Like That in aria of sorrow.
... but this isnt about them, oops. youre right that its something that would, assumedly, work well for a tv show format, especially under the guise of adapting and building off of the original material in ways that wouldnt work with a game series of castlevania's genre. however, they obviously didnt want to do that, for whatever reason, which would likely be because netflix castlevania just doesnt much care for making something truly and genuinely based off of castlevania. theyre just not interested in it, for whatever reason, which would be fine if it wasnt the thing they were supposed to adapt 😭
