Credit to @nikkaeg : Why can't we just play nice? First post-tri swim tonight. I was gunning for 3km but it was not to be. The other regulars and myself had to contend with some newcomers who have yet to learn the respect culture and etiquette of the lanes. Tonight was lots of stopping and timing my push offs to dodge the flailing arms. The annoyance was not exclusive to me... tonight's session was full of stink eyes, gesticulations and clicking of tongues from various folks. The regulars at my pool are amazing. Whilst we all strive to keep doing better, there is respect and support for others to do better too. It is never a race against each other, it is about doing the best we can in our sessions. When any of us are struggling with fatigue or injury, it is always dealt with compassion and encouragement. When we do well, we get excited for each other. These newbies came across unnecessarily competitive and agressive tonight by blocking other swimmers so that they are unable to pass. When faster swimmers would attempt to pass, they would surge in speed to make it awkward for an overtake. As awkward acceleration is not sustainable without stroke efficiency, they were unable to keep pace, slowing right down in front of any swimmer that wishes to pass them. I simply did not have the patience to deal with that. *sigh* I am annoyed... but perhaps this is a good opportunity to train for patience and strategy during open water events? Credit to @nikkaeg : Too keen for my own good. First night back in training. It was a beautifully empty pool and I swear I clocked 3km-ish. However, everything that could go wrong, went wrong. I didn't switch on my tracker for the first 200m-ish... noticed mid-lap. As the pool was empty, I decided to do flip/tumble turns for a change (something I never do due to lack of confidence). This vanity mission confused the heck out of my tracker and certain laps were not tracked in real time/length. Suppose it was more used to me swimming slower. 😂😂😂 Oh well.
