TOG comics redraws 4/?

Andy loosing her immortality in the first movie, while very dramatic and surely poetic with what she says to Nile, is actually terrible for the second movie (based on the comic part 2) and here is why (comic spoilers incoming):

We basically have two options for how it goes if we even vaguely follow the comic plot and it takes out all the tension/ spice:

A) Quynh kills Andy as she doesn’t know Andy lost her immortality and everyone is very sad (this should happen like within the first five minutes of their meeting lol)

B) Andy gets grievously injured and Qunyh is very shocked (but survives just barely)

But like it still takes out all the spice of the comic plot out. Of Andy and Noriko fighting and killing each other, of Nicky shooting them both, of Noriko torturing Andy, Andy‘s quite frankly epic rage murder on Noriko‘s yacht. So much good stuff and character relevant stuff will get missed out on because Andy isn’t immortal anymore

Like now some people will say: but surely it adds tension because Andy can die! Actually no, I expect her to die (I don’t want to but the way movies are made these days it‘s likely) and knowing she can die in a movie about immortals (and where the whole premise is they are immortal) is actually boring if you ask me. But killing characters never really adds tension for me in the first place.

If Andy still had her immortality like in the comics, not only could we get the awesome scenes above, but with the actual tension of „what if she doesn’t wake up the next time.“ The unknown factor of unstable immortality is much tastier than the known factor of mortal heroes.

Anyway, comic 2 is awesome (except the ending) and I hate the way they went in the movie. Obviously it‘s possible ToG2 will go a different route but it would still come back to point a) and b) above really except if Booker starts out with „don’t go after Andy she’s mortal now“

* point C) Andy dies and comes back immortal once more/ recovers her immortality some way (I don’t think it‘s actually an option outside of fanfic but I had to add it to complete the list)

Also sorry if some parts of this don’t make sense, I’m sick and can’t follow my own thoughts longer than a couple of seconds

There was another test screening of THE OLD GUARD 2 and

All I will say (because I can't say anything and I hate spoilers so I would never divulge pre-release info) is that if this film is completed before the end of the year, it would be as miraculous as the existence of immortals.

I've been to test screenings and they always warn the attendees that it is unfinished and maybe the lighting isn't correct or there is placeholder music, yadda yadda yadda. This time they showed a brief production reel to show how some of the scenes will be fixed and showed some of the stand-in footage so that it wouldn't be jarring for the audience. But there was a LOT of stand-in footage and storyboarding in lieu of actual scenes.

I've been to many test screenings where there are several scenes where they have the stand-in footage or unrendered GGI, but never the extent of this one. I was chatting afterwards with someone else who was in the screening and he said he too had never been to a test screening with so much footage still undone.

The guy who sat behind me went to a test screening last week for another film (THE BOOK OF CLARENCE) and despite starting out by saying, "I shouldn't be saying anything with the NDA and all", proceeds to tell the entire film to his seatmates, and due to proximity, me. He loved it FWIW.) and he said that that film was pretty much complete just that they have to erase the wires from the wirework and the stunt pads that were still visible. I would be fine with that level of incompletion.

Of course there is more to TOG2 than action scenes so it's understandable to test to try to get a feel for audiences' reaction to the story and plotting so that things can be fixed in the edit, if needed. Yet, because this is a property so reliant on the action and CGI that not having that completed or, at least, further along in completion, or having stand-in ADR (when someone else does the dialogue so that they can then get the actor to do the ADR later so you're hearing voices obviously not belonging to the cast.)

, is a big enough distraction that I am curious as to how people reviewed the film afterwards. There was a test screening a month and 5 days ago and I'm curious as the feedback that came from that screening.

But, c'est la vie. I can't wait to see the finished project. Whenever that is.

regarding the lack of promo and updates for tog2, it seems like it's going through some serious post-production issues. there's been several test screenings, with one as recent as earlier this month and the reactions were puzzled to say the least. test screenings are generally unfinished but the ppl who saw it said they basically said haven't seen one as incomplete as tog2 so 😬

This is sad to hear but I am honestly not surprised. The lack of any promo photos and any trailer was already a hint that they do not know what story they should promote in a potential trailer

Second: Victoria Mahoney, the new director. She had a previous project where she always share BTS photos from the nature they were shooting at etc. Everyone asked if she would do that for TOG2 as well. She said yes. And then she shared four (?) pictures. And then never talked about TOG2 ever again. She didn’t even shared a „that’s a wrap“ photo (as far as I remember). Or one picture with her and the cast. I mean … how she organizes her Instagram is of course up to her but I think it is really telling that for the first project she shared pictures nearly every day and of TOG2 she shared four without comment, and now only shares funny Tiktok videos.

Which, feels for me like, she isn’t really standing behind the project… and that scares me… and the test screening seem to confirm my bad feeling

So thank you for letting me know. I still have hope that they do reshoots or re-edit the whole thing, giving us at least kind of a consistent story

hey so in like 2014 when I was new here I read something in the about of somebody I thought was really cool. something along the lines of "if you want me to follow you back please have a tagging system". which is a fine thing to say! it's only, I (redacted lengthy explanation about my trauma)

I'm extremely relieved that I've successfully separated the actor who did an icky, very-triggering-to-me thing last year from my beloved babygirl Booker, so no need to tag Booker posting on my account. but separating the actor from other characters is hit-or-miss and I continue to need to avoid content about the actor himself. maybe by the time TOG2 gets a press tour he'll have publicly said that he believes Amber Heard and separated himself from his serial abuser pal?? SIGH

From what i understand of the Tales Through Time pitch process, the stories seemed to all be pitched up front, with no coordination amongst the authors. Which makes it extra fascinating that we have two different Nicky/Joe stories where one wants to have one good night and focus on the beauty in front of them and the other is too fixated on the badness in the world to do that in that moment.

I also really like that the specific wrongdoing Nicky and Joe, respectively, are hung up on is queer in nature. They could've just had the issue be that Nicky was avenging kids or Joe was worried about a cis showgirl and it would've worked just as well, but instead both stories made sure to show the victims were explicitly queer which I appreciated.

Seeing as TOG2 has been (somewhat) announced, I would like to say what I would love to see in the film:

Potential comic spoilers

Andy and Nile having a high speed chance in sports cars

Nicky and Joe making silly bets

A cool Andy and Quyhn fight scene (preferably where Andy doesn’t get hurt)

Joe and Nicky’s little chat with Copley at the bar

Joe’s whole swimming ✨look✨

wake up new cursed 2ta’s dream about 2 old 2 guard just dropped

so this was yet another dream where dream me was watching a just dropped trailer for the sequel and i don’t know WHAT it is about my brain deciding to add new immortals with Other Powers. there were four new immortals in this dream however i only really remember details about one of them and that’s Arm Biggining Man (just named him on the spot that was not in fact. part of the dream) and his additional power and his only additional power is that he could make his arms. physically bigger?? like. hulk big. yeah idk what the fuck that was about. also i’m not positive but i’m pretty sure this all took place not on earth but instead some. fantasy land? idk but there was this designated like. evil area and there’s this New Ruler (i think the specific words included Witch? which seems ironic considering quynh and andy were prosecuted for being “witches”.) oh yeah. spoiler alert the new ruler is quynh. but also this other guy who is evil and this is clear that he’s evil bc he looks like fuckin darkside from dc. follow up important note. it’s all animated. the whole movie is animated. and when i say animated i mean not like. semi realistic animation or whatever. it’s like. modern claymation animation where is not like. actually claymation but it looks like claymation but it’s animated? you know what i’m saying? like the new bob the builder kinda shit. but also made to look I Guess more realistic than bob the builder. also they made quynh Unnaturally White which people were understandable pissed about when dream me logged onto tumblr to post “animated??? it’s fucking animated?” (or something very similar the exact words are slipping from my memory but that’s the basic gist of the post i made) in like the header font. and yeah. that was pretty much the dream, once again the focus was not really on the actual real old guard members. woke up feeling very disoriented and scared and then relieved that it was just a dream. my only possible takeaway from all this is that i need to rewatch the old guard - 2ta
