Can we sometimes just take a step back and remember that John never learned what happened on the roof of Bart‘s and why exactly did Sherlock jump and who he jumped for and the snipers and Sherlock‘s tears and the two years of impossible work and the Johnlessness and Serbia and the scars and Sherlock.
John never learned about any of these things. He thought Sherlock left him for a little bit of adventure after stepping off a roof right in front of his eyes, he thought Sherlock enjoyed his little joke of playing dead, he thought Sherlock never trusted him, he thought he has never been important to Sherlock after all.
Even though he has no right to land those blows and kicks on Sherlock, he still has the right to be angry and remain angry.
Remember, unlike us, John has never learned about these things.

Accusing people, some of whom incidentally are likely LGBT themselves, of not viewing wol///fstar as canon because they "can't read queer-coding" is the cope of the century and borders on delusional. it's also condescending and disrespectful- why is your personal analysis of a work of fiction more valid than anyone else's, particularly when that analysis is almost certainly driven by confirmation bias? Have you asked yourself whether the "signs" you think you're reading in the text are actually there or whether you just want them to be? It's fine to want them to be and to add two and two and get six, personally I've done that with many works of fiction and I will continue to do so, but objectively there's no evidence that holds up to the slightest bit of scrutiny that jkr actually intended Sirius and Remus to secretly be in love.
Leaving aside the fact for now that this is JKR we're talking about and all that entails, it honestly verges on conspiracy-brained at times. Besides that, using homophobic stereotypes as "evidence" is, to put it plainly, shit. Some of these stereotypes might seem fairly innocuous yet still manage to be offensive (e.g. "tonks is queer-coded because she has short hair/is cool/has this personality trait or physical characteristic) but others honestly cross a line. Think for a moment about the logical leap you're making when you claim that werewolves being an allegory for stigmatised illnesses like AIDS is proof that R is gay. What equivalence is being drawn here? worth thinking about
I just want to say this is a work of children's literature and we're all free to interpret whatever we want and make up whatever silly things that we want with it. But you're not smarter or more special than anyone else because you think there's a gay way to look or speak or act, or for seriously believing that JKR created some kind of mad convoluted mental backflip conspiracy to specifically fuck with what was at the time a fringe element of online fandom that she likely wasn't even aware of. Apply Occam's razor here and go with the simplest explanation, which is that JKR, a heterosexual woman, wrote a children's book in the 90s with a majority heterosexual pairings and one token gay character. From there, do whatever you want. The end

I just need to inform you nerds about absolute madlad academic Joseph Brennan
most notably, he wrote a paper about a queer reading of Mordred in BBC Merlin which heavily cites his own (poorly photoshopped) pornographic slash manips
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but he also edited a whole book about queerbaiting, including chapters about: Supernatural, Xena Warrior Princess, One Direction RPF, Supergirl, and the fucking Johnlock Conspiracy
all the rest of his work is about gay porn
I fucking love academia

It's so funny to me that some people maintain their blog by going back and deleting cringe posts. I leave those bad boys up like bodies in gibbets warning others to turn back. my 2017 TJLC era??? Waving those posts in my followers' faces like a crazy old bridge keeper screaming "DO NOT PASS THIS WAY" and cackling in violent delight

I used to love BBC Sherlock so fucking much when I was like fourteen or something and it kinda got me into the Sherlock Holmes universe so when I watched the finale I was actually legitimately overjoyed because omigod fucking god they're living together no wives or girlfriends and raising a baby together and the whole finale was about Sherlock rescuing John. I thought everyone perceived it as canon Johnlock but then I found out how violently homophobic the actors and everyone involved in the production of the show were post finale. And how derisive the straight fans were, it was a specific brand of potent hostility I'd never encountered before up until then and have never seen since in such intensity. The thing is I still maintain bbc johnlock was not even queerbait, it was just textbook gaslighting at that point. They made a pair canonically queer then called us every name under the sun for seeing that it was queer. Anyway that was just one facet of it that made the show age badly to me.
I also hate shows with a white male protagonist who uses his " neurodivergent genius intellect" as an excuse to be an absolutely garbage person, because it attracts a specific kind of male demographic that try to emulate this condescend whilst completely missing the irony of the purposeful character flaw.
Despite everything I did love that show with my whole heart as a kid, and I missed it so much, I loved Andrew Scott's camp as fuck Moriarty, Lara Pulvers Irene made me go wELL fuCk If I wasn't Gay BeFoRe. But after everything that particular adaptation has perhaps permanently soured for me. I hoped one day I could go back to it without wincing at the scene where John hits Sherlock because he blames him for Mary's death because I read some sort of meta internalised homophobia into it. But I realised even though I'm grateful to bbc johnlock for making me fall in love with the ship it's just an adaptation. There's millions of better ones out there, bbc doesn't have be an end all be all and I've also only read one acd canon book. So not all is lost and maybe I will go back to Johnlock just not through that door.

Oh, boy. This week, Emily and V dig into yet another cult of personality and banana-bonkers conspiracy theory within fandom: BBC Sherlock's The JohnLock Conspiracy, or TJLC. From the totally normal metas dissecting why curtains are blue on the show to totally abhorrent doxxing at a convention, this episode has everything. Gay tea. Secret BBC vaults. Un… aired… specials. Were you a BBClock fan? (Given that Johnlock is the #2 ship on AO3, some of you must be!) Did you TJLC?
This Week In Fandom History is a fandom-centric podcast that tells you… what happened this week in fandom history!

i think we can all agree Sherlock is suicidal. His response to Sholto’s “one should embrace it [death] when it comes” being “we would never do that to John, not in John’s wedding” shows Sherlock’s death wish.
Which means that he could have simply die at Barts back then, but he didn’t, because of John. He didn’t die because he couldn’t leave John believing he was a fraud, that Sherlock (and by extension, his relationship with John) was fake. So he fakes his death for two fucking years in the hope to return to John.
But when he does, when he finally returns to John, he’s irremediable broken, he’s mad, he’s hurt, and most importantly, he moved on (or so it seems). He gets married with Mary even after Sherlock’s return. He doesn’t move back to Baker St. What Sherlock learns is that keeping himself alive wasn’t all that worth it after all, because he lost John anyways.
So when Moriarty (Sherlock) says “Die already, why can’t you?” and he (almost) does, is Sherlock finally letting himself wish for death again.
John once stopped him wishing death. And now that he’s gone, Sherlock wishes death again.
He doesn’t die, of course, because one variable has changed and it’s that John is in danger. So he keeps himself alive yet again because of John.
the end :)

On Monday first class first thing thrown in my face was this philosophy assignment asking me to solve the murder mystery of the deaths of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson.
Have to repeatedly scream “Who never lived and so can never die Who never lived and so can never die Who never lived and so can never die” in my head just to keep it together.
Do you understand the physical pain. DO YOU UNDERSTAND.

HELP STEPH!!
I’M STARTING TO DOUBT TJLC??!?! (is that even possible?? Shame on me my parents are starting to contaminate me with their heteronormativity)
Anyway,
I KNOW that you can put faith in me again and remind me that it’s there so idk could you pls pls, anything, something… I need some good proof of Johnlock that would even make the straightest most boring person ever believe in it.
<3
Hey Lovely!
OH GOSH, I'm probably the worst to restore faith since I have maintained some skepticism since S4 aired myself, HAHAH. A lot of people have left me because of it, sadly misunderstanding that my skepticism comes from other external factors rather than JUST the show. Because I do genuinely believe that it WAS supposed to be a Johnlock ending but then ~~THINGS~~ happened, lies were told, and shit was stirred behind the scenes. Just various happenings OUTSIDE of JUST the show made me skeptical, is all. If you're only looking at JUST the show, I can see how one remains hopeful (minus S4, but that's a personal opinion, LOL)
I do, though, have some posts made after S4 that I have either written or compiled here:
S4 Meta Masterpost (Aug. 3, 2018)

Is There a Difference Between TJLC and Johnlock?
Johnlock Isn’t Just a Coincidence
Is Johnlock Canon After S4?
Do I Still Believe in Johnlock After S4?
ASK: I’ve Been Away for Awhile; Do You Think Johnlock Will Happen?
ASK: Do you think S4 was Queerbaiting?
General Meta On S4 Masterpost (Feb 2020)
Johnlock / TJLC Meta (All the Gay Subtext Masterlist June 24/19)
TJLC Analysis of ACD Canon?
The last link has lots of amazing links to other meta that should help restore your faith :)
Sorry I'm not much help otherwise, Lovely! <3 I have tried my best, because I just want you happy <3
