Sandman fans really don’t pay enough attention to the fact that time passes really differently between the Dreaming and the Waking.
Hob goes to bed five minutes late; meanwhile Dream is standing on top of the highest tower in the pouring rain for days waiting for husband to come home from work.

Causality
Spoilers: Endwalker 6.2 / Pandaemonium
Warnings: None
Words: 1445
Notes: so I did do SOME writing during FFXIVWrite, I just never got around to posting it or never got more than a few sentences in. September was a busy month and unfortunately write just never got to the top five on the to do list. So I’ll just post these as I get time to finish them
Summary: Bel has concerns about her mother’s visits to the past and no problem with voicing them
Tumblr media
“You shouldn’t be going back there.”
Art’imis looked up from the goat she had just finished tying up. She handed the tether to the gleaner she had been helping who gave her a grateful nod before leading the stubborn creature off. The raen woman brushed her hands off on her pants. “The researchers tattled on me?”
“Mom, most of the time you don’t exactly take pains to hide what you are doing or plan to do.” Bel gave her almost the exact same look the Edmont did occasionally, the one of slight exasperation and familial fondness.
“True enough, do you want to talk here or at the apartment in Ul’dah?” Art’imis smiled and looked over her daughter. The pinch between her eyebrows said that the younger woman would prefer somewhere besides the options given. Ishgard, if Art’imis had to venture a guess. There Bel would have options for backup to help talk sense into her stubborn mother.
“Does it matter?” Bel snapped. When her mother didn’t respond she continued. “You gamble every time you use that portal to the past. We don’t know enough to know if it’s stable, as far as G’raha knew that simulacrum of Alexander that you destroyed was the key to the time travel systems. That portal could collapse at any time and using it just puts stress on a system we don’t know the limits of.”
“They need my help,” Art’imis said gently. “And if it has already happened-“
“Time is NOT that straight forward.” Bel interrupted the barest hint of blue dragon fire sparking in her eyes. “The past can take care of itself. We need you here in the present!”
“I’ll finish what I’ve started Bel,” Art’imis’s voice hardened a hint of the paladin brought up to meet the angry dragon mage.
“What you’re doing is trying to assuage your own guilt for what happened to Elidibus.” Bel cast her words out like the lance she had once used and it hit just as accurately.
For a moment Art’imis blinked in shock before finding her wits again. “Don’t presume-“
“I will,” again Bel cut her off. “You’ve taken Hydaelyn’s inaction as if it is a burden you must bear now that she is gone. You are not responsible for her failings. You do not need to give out your own blood in reparations for what you had no hand in.”
Art’imis ground her teeth. She had always been proud of how observant and people savvy her daughter was. Having it turned against herself was a frustration she should have anticipated. The raen woman blew out a breath and focused on stilling her lashing tail. Bel did the same, though her ears remained pinned back against her skull. They stared at each other and Art’imis broke and looked away first. “Bel, inaction would be indol-“
“Don’t quote that indolence line at me.” In an instant Bel was tensed and ready to fight this battle with her mother again. “It is not indolent to recognize when you give too much of yourself and say no. You of all people have that right!”
“I will not-“ Art’imis glared and and made a cutting gesture when Bel opened her mouth to interrupt again, “Let me state my peace Bel. I will not risk our present. How can you be any more certain that these actions aren’t necessary to maintain our timeline?”
Bel pressed her lips thin. Her eyes narrowed like she was trying to see something just behind her mother. “I can hear Ratataskor’s voice in the dragonsong sometimes. Not the echo, her voice and soul as present as Bianca is when we follow the other dragoons around to laugh at the trouble they get into and cause our own. The dragons experience more time than us. Yesterdays, todays, and tomorrows all blended together into a whole. The echos come from other times where she was not murdered, or where things happened differently. What I have learned from the Song, from tearing up my throat trying to sing with it, is that time is not a river. It is a bottomless sea. If I listen hard enough I can hear where other choices ring like harmonics in a choir. Other times that could have been and other me’s that could have been press against my entire being and ring like a crystal bell before the moment passes and all that’s left is the knowledge that it was there.”
Bel took a long breath while her mother absorbed what she was saying and then dove on, “Our choices matter, we are not bound to a single path of causality. A ship can still move forward even if the wind and current do not favor it, it can change course to avoid a storm and still arrive safe at harbor. Our triumphs and vicissitudes and tomorrows are our own. Theirs are their own.”
Bel refocused her eyes to meet Art’imis’s own. “Please leave them to themselves. You cannot save everyone.”
Mother and daughter, free paladin and dragon mage stared at each other. Art’imis reached out and pulled Bel into a hug. “I can’t stop.”
“Of all the things Hydaelyn left scared on your soul, I think I hate her most for that one,” Bel pressed her face into her mother’s hair, briefly wishing for the days when she was not several ilms taller than the small auri woman and could still see her mom as the invincible protector.
“I’m pretty sure you can’t blame Hydaelyn for this one.” Art’imis smiled bitterly into Bel’s shoulder. She twisted her head to run the length of her horn against her daughter’s jaw as she stepped away. “What’s happening in Pandaemonium is part of my present now. I can’t abandon them.”
Bel sighed, “I’ll keep an eye on things here, for you.”
“There’s my girl.” Art’imis gripped Bel’s shoulder. “I need to eat, join me at Last Stand and you can try explaining that bit about the Dragonsong again.”
Bel huffed a laugh and then mother and daughter made their way out of Labyrinthos.
.
..
..
.
Our triumphs and vicissitudes and tomorrows are our own. Theirs are their own.
“What troubles you my friend?” Themis’s voice cut through Art’imis’s thoughts. She pulled her eyes away from the distant purple horizon she’d been staring at while chewing on Bel’s words.
“How much are you prepared to trust me?” Art’imis closed her eyes as she gathered her courage and conviction, and most importantly her faith.
Stay strong, keep the faith, at duty’s end we will meet again. We will. We will.
Our choices matter, we are not bound to a single path of causality.
When she opened her eyes the odd silver and gold locked gazes with Themis’s crystal blue stare. He cocked his head and did her the courtesy of considering the question carefully. “You have been nothing but a faithful companion. Wherever you are from, dear falling star, I’ve no doubt that they have need of the skills you have honed so sharply. That you lent us your strength in battle is an honor. That you also gave your friendship and compassion is humbling.”
Art’imis gave Themis a half bow in gratitude for his words and to hide the wince of memories from Nordvrant. When she straightened she gave him a soft smile, “Not buying the line that I’m Azem’s familiar anymore?”
“I know Azem well, and the creation of a familiar that would be only half as capable as you are, is well beyond her knowledge or interest.” Themis hid a chuckle behind his fist. “It is a good cover though and anyone who’s only experience is with the wild tales that come back to Amaurot will no doubt think it within her capabilities.”
Art’imis smiled, allowing herself to partake in Themis’s good humor for a moment before the weight of what she was about to tell him drug her back into its somber shadow. “Let’s find Lahabrea. I would prefer that you both knew and I don’t want to tell this tale more than once if I don’t have to.”
Themis cocked his head to the side again as he considered her. He nodded and gestured for her to follow him.  Walking in the wake of his white robes Art’imis felt her spirit lighten as guilt that had been clawing at her soul fell away.  When she left Elpis this time, she would heed Bel’s warnings and not come back. She could not be here when stars fell from the sky and consumed everything with fire.
She could not save everyone.
But perhaps she didn’t have too if she left them with the knowledge they needed to save themselves.

I'm reading What If? by the guy from xkcd and one of the questions someone asked was about the probability of meeting your soulmate. The answer was basically: even if you factor out all of the people who would be too old or young for you,it'd be nearly impossible to meet your soulmate. Some people would manage it, but not most.
It got me thinking about all the different types of soulmate AUs fandoms have come up with. You can have a mark, words, eye meeting, eye colors, hair colors, names, a timer. You can even have a date and time.
Therefore I propose time travel shenanigans: soulmate edition.
Danny, on a mission from CW, accidentally meets his soulmate in the past/future. He can't stay and he can't take them with him to his time because wibbly wobbly timey whimey. (IDK? Maybe it'll cause something like when Rose Tyler went back in time and saved her dad's life then accidentally touched her infant self and time beasts came to eat everyone.)
Anyway, Danny returns to his proper time and is sad because he'll never see his soulmate again...
Until one day his soulmark changes.

Doctor Who Spoilers For The Giggle
Okay okay okay, so this is how I THINK the bigeneration works:
(WARNING: Wibbly Wobbly Timey Whimey explanation ahead)
So:
15 said he’s fine because 14 got better, right?
That means that 15 is chronologically created AFTER 14 does the healing
So like, when 14 dies, however that’ll happen, he’ll just like, disappear, and reappear as 15, being pulled out of themself in that moment.
15 has experienced everything 14 will, he just pops up early.
Like I said: wibbly-wobbly-timey-whimey

A/N: PART 18 of the Bedlam au! A quick interlude today! Yes, these are happening in tandem because ~wibbly wobbly timey whimey~ courtesy of the Cat Library ;) let's hope the Bureau doesn't lose too much time there!
X
Baron finds mention of something bearing button eyes in the folktales of the Cat Kingdom, but they are told from afar. The creature encountered is given no name, only referred to in passing as a thing to be avoided. They don't detail the nature of the monster, not its motive, only that it poses a danger best kept at a distance.
Beware its web is all the warnings say, and Baron can only hope Haru has not found herself tangled up in its strands.
They keep looking.
X
Haru doesn't mean to fall for Baron a third time, but... well, at this point it's almost an inevitability.
It's definitely a habit.
She has learnt the signs of her descent – knows the parts of him she will fall for first (the flair, the apparent confidence) and the parts she will fall for later (the gentle smiles, the quiet moments) and how it will take root, knotted and intricate, between her heart and lungs. She knows the way her heart will betray her in the beginning (quickened beats and blushing cheeks) and then how her head will follow (lingering just a little longer than she should in his world, going back despite all the reasons she shouldn't).
What she doesn't know this time around is how he'll react to it.
But this Baron is different. She can't help but believe that.
She falls faster than before – at least properly, at least beyond a simple crush – as if her descent is a snow trail, and all her previous ventures down this route have worn it smooth into ice. At least she can be sure this Baron isn't building a wall (both figurative and literal) at the end of the trail.
(It is easier, when this Baron looks at her – even with his button eyes – the way she'd wished the previous Baron had. It is easier to fall, when you know there's someone there to catch you.)
The only real dilemma is the matter of the discordance between his world and her.
She doesn't mean to fall for Baron a third time – but this is the first time she looks at him and thinks he might already know.

So, uh... I stated over on the Xitter how I wanted to go on a Dissidia (personal story/fanfic - yes, it includes OCs and original material. This is Ashe writing this, after all) tangent so badly, but hate fighting with text limitations with these sorts of things, so here I am, hopping over to Tumblr to go on said tangent. 🕺
(Tangent placed beneath a cut. Proceed with caution! Maybe.)
⚠️ Disclaimer for those who have played the game: I'm still experiencing the game. I'm not going to know everything. I just can't help but feel the inspiration blaze through me at certain points throughout the Dissidia OO experience, which compels my mind to take off with thoughts galore (whether or not I want it to. I can't control this brain of mine; it's like a wild animal sometimes, trust me!) I am inspired af, but please keep in mind I could be incorrect about certain bits of lore and still have a lot to experience - and I am fully aware of that even in writing this out.
Also, no spoilers. NONE. Furnish me with the informations only if I ask. If I'm wrong about something, I promise I'll concede that when I later find out about it. For now, this is just me having fun. Let me have fun. I'm just getting all these thoughts out of my head before they drive me crazy...! Hahaha!
Anyway, sorry. That disclaimer may or may not be longer than the tangent itself. Onto the actual tangent!
💭
So...! 🤔 Given how there's a tiny bit of "wibbly wobbly timey whimey" stuff going on with how characters are brought in, if you will, I can't help but to think about some wacky situations that may make for some neat story potential…
I'm going to start with the more "conservative" thoughts. Thoughts on characters from the same world being pulled in from different parts of their own respective timeline, so you have different sections of experiences and memories to play with.
Particularly (spoilers): Sal experienced the deaths of some particular characters who are not only alive, but they were brought in from a time where they had not died. She has a lot of memories about them that they have yet to experience.
When all of this is over, she's going to return to a world where they're no longer alive. And she has that good ol' fun time looming over her. : )
Which, as tragic as that is, I do dig that kind of narrative - I mean, to boot: I dig it, but I started realizing that it was one I'd worked with before, even... it was one she experienced in The Anomaly (FFVII x Original fanfic.) Of course, the moment I realized that, I was like "how original, Ashe. Good. Guess we'll do this song and dance again because you can't resist it, clearly." Haha!
BUT... it was then that I had the less "conservative" thoughts... Namely: since all this "wibbly wobbly timey whimey" stuff is happening anyway, what if... I didn't just inject Starlight (FFIX x Original) material in this, but also injected The Anomaly material? What if both of those stories were allowed some agency in this?
And by extension, what if the Sal (the Sal, you read that correctly) that is brought in has only experienced one of those stories (Starlight, because I'm biased at this time) while the characters from the other story (The Anomaly) experienced a different version of her than what is present? They met her (some rendition of her.) She never met them (that version of her never did.)
Again, reminder: Sal is a world hopper. For her to be part of any given FF world in this type of FF scenario is really just a matter of chance. Technically speaking, she has experienced at least two of those worlds - in different timelines, but given that there is only one Sal present... I was utterly delighted by the oddity of just picking one rendition of her to have amidst the wild and random chance that the renditions of the FFIX and FFVII worlds/characters have characters that both experienced her and didn't.
🤔
It's so weird and self indulgent on my part, I know. I get it. (It's also my own little Dissidia-esque excuse for being able to include some FFVII OCs and story beats from various perspectives, haha!) I literally cannot resist thinking about it in all of its weird and self indulgent glory, though. I cannot be stopped. 🥴
Even if I don't use the idea, I'm still going to think about it, you know? And talk about it too, apparently. Haha!
All of that being said, though, I have entertained the thought of Sal's actual "world" (the original one - not just her inclusion in fanfics) being included in Dissidia as well. This would include characters like Nat, Tsuniah and, well, Vance. This guy.
I'd talk more about what makes the inclusion of Vance and different timelines + funky memory loss stuff going on especially fascinating (to me) here, but it really... wouldn't make sense to the rest of you. It's all original stuff; story I know and have yet to tell the rest of the world, so... yeah. 🥲 But there's potential in that too that I'd love to play around with!
In that respect, between the Dissidia shenanigans and Fall To The Moon ones, should I ever actually manage to write out some story stuff for them, I may yet instill some intrigue in regards to who he is along with these other OCs of mine. Create my own Dissidia effect - basically, compel people to want to get to know them outside of AUs and fanfics (because Dissidia OO makes me want to get to know characters I have yet to get to know, let me tell you. Haha!)
Anyway... Lawdy, I'd say that's a good ol' tangent right there. That'll do it, for now. To anyone and everyone who stopped by to read this... madness... thank you. I hope it was entertaining, otherwise, sorry I wasted your time...! 😅
Until next time.

Doctor Who: No More Lies Review
Introduction
No More Lies was a very interesting listen I went from confused, to emotional, to heartbroken to shocked all in the span of a whole hour. It's a very dark but heartfelt story at the same time. Out of all of the stories I've listened to this is one that managed to cut really deep. When it all came together I thought it was super clever.
My journey into Big Finish has been an interesting one and Series 1 of the 8th Doctor Adventures has really shown me what Big Finish has to offer in terms of story telling. I'm completely sold. My heart is overjoyed at how much Paul MacGann and the rest of the writers team at Big Finish have really been able to develop the character of the 8th Doctor and help form his own era. This is all cannon to me even though I know cannon is a very lose term in the Whoniverse.
No More Lies as a story was a superb action packed treat. It was a welcome but unexpected suprise that the action was super immersive and worked really well in the audio format. It stands out very much from the other stories I've listened to in the way it plays with the format and makes you dive head first into the thick of things. I love it when stories break away from their format and this one definitely does that. This story was great and its another one I might come back to in the far future.
Tumblr media
What I Liked
I really struggled with this story at the beginning but once it got going I instantly fell in love with it. Its another fun concept with very unique villians. You think Zimmerman is the bad guy but then the story flips on itself and it becomes super surprising. The performances were once again top tier and the side characters were very memorable. Your definitely going to get a lot out of listening to this story I promise you.
There's so much to praise about this audio drama but to nail it down I want to highlight the incredible sound design and editing. No More Lies has to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing Big Finish Stories that I have ever listened to. From the sound of the soft footsteps of characters walking about to The Doctor taking part in some fun action, every sound effect really immersed me to the point I felt like I was watching a TV episode, it was an absolute delight to listen too. It was also so well edited and designed and that made it super immersive. Tim Sutton also scored great music which really suited the timey whimey tone and aesthetic of the story. The ending really hit me hard on an emotional level, it gave me full chills and goosebumps. The composition style is very much similar to the new series and its great. Gareth Jenkins really put his hat into the sound editing and made it fabulous. I promise you that this audio is worth it for the sound editing and score alone.
Next the character development of Lucie and The Doctor. This is the story that got me really attached to this tardis team. The Doctor and Lucie as a pair really shine in this story and work well together, you can tell that they're both use to each other and ready to save the day. The opening moments of the story show how well Lucie and The Doctor have gotten to know and understand each other. Sheridan Smith and Paul MacGanns performances are wonderful and together they perfectly portray and action packed tardis team ready to solve the mystery in the story. If you've listened to the other audios prepare for a dramatic cliffhanger ending that effects their dynamic even more. I also love how due to how much The Doctor trusts Lucie he's willing to break his typical companion rules. I'm really excited to listen to more of this duo in the future when I can.
Finally I have to praise the incredible writing. Paul Sutton writes in a very unique and conventional way that's not often done on Doctor Who. It was truly an amazing story. No More Lies is a truly emotional wibbly wobbly time loop story with twists that punch you in the gut. Every story beat with time pays off really well but in the end it makes you sad. Time loop stories are often boring and very stereotypical but No More Lies uses it in a way that makes it a unique listening experience that has you on the edge of your seat deeply wondering what's causing the loop and why Zimmerman is so determined to keep it closed. The stakes also get added when you have the Tar-Modowks trying to break through. All I can say is that the time plot beats our ones that pay off immensely and create a forfilling listen.
It's just all at the end of the day brilliant absolutely brilliant. No spoilers but this story really does pay off.
Tumblr media
What I Disliked
As much as I think it was nesscary for Lucie and The Doctors character development I really struggled to engage with the opening of the story before Lucie and Doc enter the mysterious garden party time loop.
The pacing is what's preventing this story from being top tier. It was pretty minor but the more I listened to the story and we got to the really good garden party bits the more it bothered me. There was absolutely no set up and it felt very difficult to know what was happening. I appreciate that I'm a new listener to Big Finish so it might just be me but if Season 1 of the 8th Doctor Adventures are a jumping point for listeners it might feel very alienating and I think it's important to be noted.
It all felt very random and out of place. I feel like diving straight into the action on audio doesn't work considering that the listener can't visually see what's happening. Until we got to the krux of the story it was very hard process and understanding what was going on. Without any spoilers I feel like the character dynamics would have been more polished if the beginning set up had been longer. Its one of those things where I feel like it should have been a two parter or at least twenty minutes longer.
Apart from that I really did enjoy the story and it's very creative nature.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
Overall another emotional and fun adventure with Lucie and The Doctor. Its a really strong inventive timeloop story, with incredible sound design, amazing performances, fun monsters, high stakes and a well developed tardis team. It also perfectly develops on from the other stories in the series. I absolutely recommended to any 8th Doctor fans out there. All of the 8th Doctor Adventures Series 1 are free on Spotify so it's definitely worth checking it out.
My overall rating would be:
Tumblr media
It's very good and so worth it checking it out. No More Lies is such a brilliant story and I very much admire it. I've noticed throughout this series of adventures love is often a strong theme through out. We've had Forbidden lovers, lovers in peril danger and lovers wanting to protect each other. I'm not a very romantic person but it's been very interesting to see different types of relationships and how understanding The Doctor has been about it. I'll be interesting to listen to S2 and see if that has similar themes.
Big Finish has blown me away with it's extensive and creative storytelling. It's set the standard for any other audio stories I might listen and has also inspired me as a writer. I'm seriously glad they've used their licence to expand on each incarnation of The Doctor and create new fun and orginal stories as I agree with Mum in saying that apart from Tom Baker each incarnation of The Doctor doesn't get enough stories.
Tumblr media
Bonus:
Tumblr media
It might be very controversial as discussed on the Big Finish podcast but I'm logging all my Big Finish listens on my reading tracker apps. Since it's my very first year getting into Big Finish I decided to make a reading challenge on The Storygraph with prompts to follow.
Each prompt fulfils or matches with the Big Finish stories I'm going to be checking out in 2024. As said all Doctors 5-12 are included excluding 10 and War. I'm very excited to dig into the thick of things and I wanted other people to join me so the offer is always open.
Apart from The Eighth Doctor Adventures Series 1 I also plan to check out some short trips, a bit of the main range, a few of the Destiny Of The Doctor installments and most importantly the infamous Charley arc so this challenge is all tailored to that. So in future reviews you absolutely see the prompt chart fill up.

My demiromanticism is definitely wibbly wobbly timey whimey—I’m married and polyamorous and an absolute slut, but I’m close to the chest. I’ve been with my wife for almost 4 years now. This is the first year we even kinda celebrated Valentine’s Day. So we made cards and in the one I made for her I put a poem I had written about her picking me up at the airport bc the only other thing I could think to write in it was “I love your smile”. She melted for both versions of the card. I guess what I’m trying to say is your people will understand you and you don’t have to have puppy dog eyes and a bleeding heart to prove you care and also if you happen to feel that way for someone, it’s rarity only makes it truer.

Do you, Twitter, and Tumblr share rent? Or are you guys freeloading (also is anyone allergic to Twitter’s cat)
Tumblr just lets me stay at his house till my apartment gets unlocked! Which is weirdly taking a long time. I don't know about twitter I kinda assume since Tumblr kind of hates his guts he has him pay rent anyways.

Because I have no self-control I've already binged the whole season xD fav episode is obviously "The Sound of her Wings". It's just so lovely, even with the terrible flashback wigs xD
But I also really liked Constantine's episode, it was surprisingly good. Jenna Coleman makes for a great Constantine.
"A Hope in Hell" was also very nice, Gwendoline Christie is just a perfect Lucifer Morningstar.
I liked the first half of the season a bit more than the second half but Rose's story was also very well told, even if they made way more changes there from the comics.
I still find the wibbly wobbly timey whimey stuff of people randomly living more then 100 years confusing. I guess Ethel had her amulet, John had the ruby, but how's Unity not dead?
Anyway, here's to hoping we'll get another season and at least "Dream Country" and "Season of Mists" will make it to Netflix, too.

Once again rotating around my time travel plot around in my head.
1. Launching my fankids back in time to the literal SECOND Sonic Generations ended is the best idea actually.
2. Future Eggman bursting out of the wreckage of his airship yelling "SOMEONE HAS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR KIDS!" at Sonic Generations era Sonic and Co is such a great image.
3. But like not at Sonic specifically no kids for him.
4. Briar tells Tangle and Jewel, probably the worst two to tell everything, almost* everything.
5. Fang gets his airbike stolen by one of my fankids AGAIN. Or maybe for the first time? Wibbly wobbly timey whimey.
6. NO ONE TELL ANYONE ANYTHING ABOUT MARIA OR PATIENCE!!! (They fail at one of these.)
