omg so I'm mostly finished watching kings (the tv show with sebastian stan playing a moody gay prince) and his character is sooo iconic. in the first episode he: goes partying (after nearly dying when taken hostage from the front lines of his country's war), makes out with girls while making very gay eye contact with some guy, pulls out a fake gun and shoots some paparazzis camera, and has a very emotional talking down to by his father (the king)

^ transcript I made of what his dad says to him,,,, and like it's sooo good. he so badly wants to be king so he's constantly struggling with how much he has to sacrifice to be king and his father says this to him. EXCEPT HIS DAD IS LYING. HIS DAD HASN'T SACRIFICED ANYTHING. his dad literally has a secret wife and child and yet he's asking his son to stop being gay as a sacrifice and gss (gay sebastian stan) doesn't know about this secret family. and also his dad is favored by god and gets messages from him and stuff so he thinks that this must be god's opinion too except no his dad is just homophobic. in one of the later episodes his dad literally calls him a faggot in the middle of a court trial in front of everyone because he got mad at him for revealing that he is framing a public hero for treason (this person is the one who saved gss when he was a hostage and is also favored by god to be the next king). and then to shame him, the king makes gss kneel and kiss the floor at his feet. also the show got cancelled after one season but they did an oral history of the show last year and it's revealed that, had there been a season 2, gss would've developed feelings for the guy who saved him/he helped his dad frame for treason/his rival to be the future king. NOT TO MENTION THAT THIS IS ALL BASED ON THE BIBLE

do you know where "no beta we die like x" comes from and how it is used?

The term "beta" in this context is short for "beta reader" - a person who reads a fic while it's still in the editing stage and helps the writer get it ready to post. Some betas check grammar. Some check canon compliance. Some are sensitivity readers. There are lots of things that betas can do.

So functionally, saying "no beta" means that the writer didn't get this checked by a second person before they posted it. It's a warning that there might be errors or typos etc. It's mostly used when an author has written something quickly and is posting without doing a lot of (or any) edits first.

As for where it comes from? It all started with a bumper sticker.
