Minthara is honorary Southeast Asian Auntie in my eyes
Shortest one in the group and always stands on boxes/stairs for better view
The way she roasts people by simply stating her observations in a deadpan manner
Will protect if outsiders bully you, but that doesn't mean her roasts end though
Calls people names in her mother's tongue so they don't understand
Will do and say everything else under the sun to show that she loves you, except saying "I love you" (because she was never taught such phrase growing up)
Bothered by the sun, checks a few times a day for blemishes
Complains food outside of home is bland (probably along the line of "This soup is so bland I can wash the bowls with it.")
Insults others by comparing them to dogs
Stands like an immobile log (🧍‍♀️) when hugged, if you're lucky you get an awkward pat on the back
Will happily instigate violence by snitching
Simply does NOT like the little rascals/urchins running around, especially near her
Indirectly, but in a forward way, proposes to someone after first date by asking them to go to her hometown with her
Microdosing partner with purple shrimp paste poison, otherwise they won't survive the trip in her hometown
Will pet and spoil the dog/cat when nobody is looking
Raised by a tiger mom
Has an impeccable garden full of questionable plants
You do NOT want to be on the receiving end of her flying chancla/flip flop
Bonus: loves Ulaver wine (drow green wine: alcoholic beverage fermented with vegetation and fungus of the Underdark). And here's the Vietnamese fermented green mushroom wine (rượu nấm lim xanh)

As an undiagnosed autistic I LOVE talking about my random interests with people and vice versa. So here's what I think the Touchstarved LIs random interests are 😊
Kuras:
Astronomy/ Astrology
assuming that he really is an ancient Angel he probably had a hand in or watched the universe being made so it still fascinates him how it has developed over the centuries
especially what humans have discovered about it
also the meanings they've given to constellations and other parts of the cosmos in tradition and folklore
it's all intriguing and quite amusing to him
he knows all the LIs zodiac signs as well as his regular patients
would sneer and say ' of course you're a Leo ' without any other context and just walk away in that swift angelic manor that he does
has a vintage telescope that he refuses to replace
if you indulge him long enough and let him ramble on about stars he'll stop and be like ' Wait I could just show you'
hope you're not afraid of heights
Leander:
Plants
especially the poisonous kind
he finds them poetic in a sense because of Co he does
like to have a small journal about them and wishes eridia had more nature for him to explore and document
sketches flowers when he has free time and might even color them
he's not the most skilled artist but he good at drawing plant life because he's done it so often
knows the meaning of plants and makes/ buys bouquets accordingly
hints at how he really feels about the person he's giving a bouquet to
has given ones with negative meanings to people he didn't like but needed something from, he knew they wouldn't understand and would just be like "oh a bouquet how thoughtful" " yes this was made especially for you " *wink wink*
has admired the gardens of high town snobs him and his bloodhounds have raided interacted with ( he'll take a few home just because )
is learning how to make teas, medicine, poison and lotions from plants for the fun of it and to help others
wants to have a large garden one day
Mhin:
Fungus/ Mushrooms
they just think they're neat
like how could you not there's so many cool kinds of fungus
they adore that such life can grow from death
will rarely pick mushrooms because they want them to stay where they belong
doesn't want to separate them from their fungi families 🥺
really REALLY likes cool colored fungi that glow
I imagine magical fungi exists in their world so they get really excited when they find some in the wild
they go crazy for those really big mushrooms and will stare at them for hours if they could
has dreamed of sleeping on a mushroom many times like a little fairy but won't tell ANYONE ( ok except Kuras but they didn't mean to, got really embarrassed )
if you gift them a glowing magic mushroom to keep as a nightlight they'll act unfased at first but congratulations you're basically married now
Vere:
Gemstones
eyes dilate like a cat when he sees one
oooo shiny
has stolen found more than he's bought
has a mini hoard of stones stashed away somewhere in his room
he only shows it to people he really likes ( Ais and S/o )
Ais' earrings intrigues him
Ais noticed and took them off so he could see and was more than willing to talk about where he got them
Vere knew exactly what they were made of right away and wanted to tral them as his own to mess with Ais, but lost interest when Ais admitted he wouldn't mind
would lay on a giant pile of gemstones like a dragon's hoard in his full demon fox form if he had the means to ( would put his S/O in the pile too as one of his treasures )
he'll know exactly which gemstones look best on you for jewelry
Ais:
Animals
like alot of animal facts dude
he has a wide range of knowledge because he can't choose a favorite animal. he likes SO MANY
ranging from the scariest of predators on land and sea to the cutest little fellas ( sharks, tigers, bunnies, small birds, sparrows *hint hint*)
if you tell him what your favorite animal is expect to be randomly given little gifts based off of of it ( illustrations, mini figurines, plushies etc )
asked Vere alot of questions about his fox nature ( " does your coat change color in the winter?" " ...Ais I'm trying to get frisky stop asking weird shit" )
was the type of kid to bring strays home so you can imagine how happy he is about having a pack of soulless
he immediately knew which animal/animals they were all based on and knows how to interact with them accordingly
his love for animals kinda messes with his instincts like yeah I shouldn't pet that large predator but what if he's lonely like me 🥺
is totally fine with getting bit and scratched because he overstepped a boundary and will learn from it
I bet eridia's highborn snobs have captured exotic creatures for show so guess who's pulling up with his red eyed soulless gang for a jail break ( he'd give the creatures to a shelter that can relocate and take care of them )
wants to raise alot of pets with his S/o as they grow old. just one big happy family of strays they've taken in: wild soulless, escaped highborn pets, barn animals, alley cats, Vere, etc.

Going fast enough, there was motion to it, and shape. The wires dipped in-between the poles, then curved back upward, then back down again - a never ending parabolic curve, like a child's drawing of ocean waves. He would imagine different creatures running on top of the wires - tigers, pandas, lions, cheetahs, or even a little miniature version of himself - running and leaping, keeping up with the car. He'd follow the horizon this way too - holding up one of his toy army men and lining up its legs with the line where the land met the sky. On the interstate, outside of the city, driving past farms and craggy hills and suburban enclaves, bunches of houses crowded up in little clusters like fungus erupting through the cracks in a tree's bark - everything looked like a toy. Like he could roll down the window and just scoop everything up, pull the whole world inside to look at it closer.

TMNT TO ME: 2012 Season 2
My memories of episodes. Any episodes not included are ones I completely forgot about. (Now with pictures!)
Anytime MOUSERS appear in an episode, this image will appear to show my love for them:
Tumblr media
This image will be seen a lot in this personal retrospective:
Tumblr media
Mutation Situation
A very fun return to the series. I remember feeling like the second season started not too long after the end of the last one. Probably because there were pretty sizable gaps between episodes often. While an unusual and unnerving opponent, the fight scene with the Biotroid goes hard, especially when everything literally goes sideways.
Invasion of the Squirrelanoids
Properly horrifying.
Follow the Leader
Love Footbots. Ever since Shredder allied with the Kraang, I was wondering why he didn't use robot soldiers. The normal Foot Soldiers were clearly useless.
Mutagen Man Unleashed
Even in mutated form, Timothy is still a pain in the ass. They should have shattered him. Awesome design though. This episode was my introduction to love triangles, though at the time I merely thought of Casey as an obstacle to Donnie x April, not as a rival. Speaking of Casey, even though I had no knowledge of previous incarnations (or that previous incarnations existed) I knew Casey was going to be someone big as they put emphasis on his name reveal.
Mikey Gets Shellacne
Tumblr media
Great to see Baxter again. I plan to make a whole post on this in the future, but I didn't like Rahzar (I'm lukewarm on him currently). Seeing Dogpound be discontinued was and still is disappointing. I mainly didn't like this episode because Mikey looked so disgusting. I made sure to avoid this episode.
Target: April O'Neil
Tumblr media
Chrome Dome was also cool.
Slash and Destroy
Intense. Not even Shredder hurt the boys this badly. In this episode they were all limping and bruised and maskless. It was as insane for me then as it is now. The lack of masks really showcase how vulnerable they were. This episode cemented Slash as one of the turtles' biggest threats for me. The pain the turtles were in made it clear how much Slash wanted them DEAD. He had them beaten to a bloody pulp.
The Good, The Bad, and Casey Jones
My first thought when Casey’s fear of rats was revealed was “Gee, I hope for his sake he doesn’t face the Rat King.”
Tumblr media
The Kraang Conspiracy
The turtles gaining another human ally made me more certain that Irma would join the group.
Tumblr media
Fungus Humongous
I know I watched the premiere of this episode. I think it was around this episode where I started getting sick of Donnie's crush of April. I was rolling my eyes when his greatest fear was April hating him.
Metalhead Rewired
Very fun episode. It was great to see SpiderBytez and Snakeweed again. They had such cool designs and were the DNA for the beginning of the show. It always bothered me we never saw more of them. It's always nice to see Metalhead. Catching all the Star Wars references was so cool to me because back then I was a bigger fan of Star Wars.
Of Rats and Men
This episode convinced me that Irma was going to join the turtles once she learned about them. She was helping them fight the Rat King. The scene of her helping the turtles (without her knowing) reminded me heavily of how Casey helped the turtles fight Mutagen Man (without him knowing).
The Manhattan Project
An absolute banger of a mid-season special. Both new threats were great. Loved the Kraathatrogons. Big worms are always fun. They were all a nice challenge for Donnie, April, and Casey. The real star of this episode was Tiger Claw. The show does an amazing job of setting him up. Instead of just saying he's a force to be reckoned with, they prove it (unlike a certain canine and fish). Tiger Claw easily takes down the turtles on his own. He goes toe-to-toe with Splinter for a good while (unlike a certain canine and fish both going down in one hit). Tiger Claw's plan allows him to successfully capture Splinter. He gets an incredible amount done in his special. He cemented himself as one of the turtles' most powerful and skilled foes.
Mazes & Mutants
Great to see Leatherhead again! Even if wasn’t actually him. I was not the biggest fan of Rockwell's return. Not being a Lord of the Rings fan made this episode a bit grating with its constant references.
The Lonely Mutation of Baxter Stockman
Throughout the series I was wondering when Stockman would become a mutant. Most humans in this series don't stay human for long, so for Stockman to be human for a whole season and a half was an anomaly. Thankfully this episode beautifully delivered. Stockman-Fly rocks. Love his changed voice. Love his new design with the big claw hand (big fan of asymmetry). The sideways mouth was a disgustingly amazing detail. It was everything I was hoping for from a mutation of my favorite bad guy. The final fight with everyone having different means of traveling through the air was so much fun also.
Newtralized!
Newtralizer and Slash made a pretty cool duo. Loved the Kraang-Walker. It was the coolest shit I’ve ever seen. I would have loved a toy of it. Once again, huge Star Wars fan at the time. The end frame for this episode was one of the coolest. It perfectly captured how Newtralizer would return, stronger than ever.
Pizza Face
Everyone disregarding Mikey annoyed me to no end. Still does.
The Wrath of Tiger Claw
An epic return by one of TMNT's coolest villains and a satisfying moment with Karai's realization.
The Legend of the Kuro Kabuto
This is my favorite episode. It just has so much good stuff going for it. The introduction starts off strong. The reintroduction to Steranko (or Weapons Dealer to a young me) does wonders to catch you off your feet. His collection is cool, unique, and a great way to establish the resources this man has available and why he specifically wants the helmet. Zeck's (or Master Thief as I knew him) introduction perfectly captures his goofy and zany personality that I loved. More importantly, it showcased that he liked being thief. He didn't have to steal the spear of destiny. He didn't have to make a replica out of marzipan. He especially didn't have to make Weapons Dealer lick it. But Master Thief did because he wanted to. His introduction makes it clear that (unlike Fishface) Master Thief loves being a master thief. It's not just a profession; it's a passion. He jumps with joy and laughs when stealing. And I agree with that one message board user who said that Master Thief using his mohawk as a weapon is amazing. I liked the lore dump over the Kuro Kabuto. It's so cool to hear the history of The Foot Clan and Shredder's iconic helmet. This particular flashback is so intriguing because for all the grandiosity put behind Koga Takuza, he is never brought up again. The idea of the helmet granting leadership of the Foot Clan is constantly referenced in later seasons, but the founder is only mentioned once, despite the amount of buildup and focus in the flashback. Strange. After the flashback, we get to the highlight of the episode: The Foot Clan on a mission. This episode briefly flips the script of a normal episode. Usually, the turtles are running through the rooftops on a mission. In this episode, the mutant henchman are running through the rooftops on a mission. They even split up into pairs just like the turtles do. Seeing them banter was cathartic. Sad that Stockman couldn't say anything this episode, but his "conversation" with Fishface was still good. Tiger Claw and Rahzar's conversation was obviously a highlight. The chase for the helmet and the fight over it were both so fun. Still, Master Thief managed to steal the show. The line:
"Why is this town so full of freaks?!"
is stuck in my head. All his lines and bits are just so funny. He was so gleefully smug as he made his escape. He even took his defeat in stride. Weapons Dealer basically says to him: "I'm going to beat the ever-loving shit out of you." And Master Thief says:
"That's to be expected."
I thought it was a shame that we would never see him again. He was clearly made to be a one-time enemy.
Tumblr media
I was also not expecting Karai bomb.
Plan 10
I remember the marketing for this episode more than the actual episode.
"Who's who? And what happened to Raph?"
I also remember the "pinching your own butt" joke being heavily featured in the trailers.
Vengeance is Mine
I cannot forget this episode. I can never forget this episode.
I always rationalized Leo’s goal of freeing Karai as “Leo loves his family and will do anything for them. Of course he’ll try to save his sister.”
Tumblr media
But then, in this episode, you can pinpoint the exact moment my stomach drops.
Tumblr media
The two following shots confirmed my horror.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Brings back painful memories, doesn't it?)
I was nauseous after this brief scene. I nearly didn't finish this episode. The "reward" for finishing this episode was discovering that Karai's inbetween form at the very end was the creepiest shit I had ever seen.
A Chinatown Ghost Story
I could swear this episode came WAY earlier in the season.
Into Dimension X!
I was so excited to see Leatherhead again (for real this time). Dimension X is a fun and wacky place. And it's so good to see Mikey put his brothers in their place. And make them listen to him.
The Invasion
"Finally, it took the whole season, but Irma is finally joining the group."
Tumblr media
I was flabbergasted at the reveal, especially since it was Iago from Aladdin of all things. The season finale did not pull any punches. Casey and Raph running through the streets was a sight to behold. Leo's gauntlet was intense. The mech was epic. Leatherhead vs Shredder was everything I ever wanted. Even without the context of previous incarnations, the window scene is unforgettable.
Me seeing April's Dad being mutated AGAIN:
Tumblr media
Splinter's defeat was also punch to the gut. I knew he wasn't dead, but still.
The team leaving for the woods was a dour yet perfect note to end the season on.
Looking Back
According to my memories, season 2 was the height of my devotion to TMNT 2012. I was glued to the TV and made sure to catch every episode. I can’t say the same for the following seasons, but that is a story for another time.
Tune in next time when I shall go over my experiences with TMNT gaming.

The other night I had a pretty ridiculous cardiophile dream, so I decided to write it down.
Vera's Hike
Vera has been walking for two hours, though she's covered less than three miles, much of it grueling.  She had forgotten about this park's ample hills from previous hikes, and she's more accustomed to walking on flat land.  Less steady than she'd like, she uses her walking stick to pull herself up the next hill, spying an eight-spotted tiger beetle running at lightning speed at the top--a quick but striking flash of iridescent emerald green.  She can feel her heart pounding from that last few steps up, and to her delight, she sees someone has fashioned some seating out of half of a fallen tree trunk. It has just enough room for one.  She balances her walking stick on a towering live oak, then collapses on the "bench."  After catching her breath, she pulls out her water bottle to take several drinks, then rummages some more through her backpack, pulling out the plastic bag that holds her coveted camo-inspired stethoscope.  Buying a stethoscope that blends into the woods was wishful thinking, she realizes, because using a stethoscope on a hike will make her stick out like a sore thumb no matter how much its tubing matches the landscape.  She feels a little self-conscious but reminds herself that she made up her mind on the drive over--if she wanted to listen, she was going to listen.  It didn't matter if a group of teenagers ambled up the hill and laughed in her face--she wanted to hear her pounding heart in the midst of these woods, to feel connected to something more authentic than her everyday worries, with the sound of her own heart racing in both ears.
Determined to listen before she recovers from the climb, she rushes to put the ear tips in her ears and reach under her nylon top to listen over her tricuspid area.  There is something special, she's reminded, about feeling it and hearing it all at once, pounding so fast like it's in a hurry to get somewhere.  It makes her smile in the quiet of the forest, occasionally punctuated by the calls of birds, frogs, and insects, and she likes to think of its work, and by extension herself, as being part of the forest somehow.  She scans the area, noticing a black and yellow spiny orb weaver in the corner of her eye, traversing its web about eight feet up in the oak tree, the spines atop its body like a tiny tiara.  A squirrel runs up a tree across from her seat, a bird she doesn't recognize calls to another from several feet away, and Vera squints and leans over when she notices a white patch on the ground to her left--a crown-tipped coral fungus, she realizes. Carefully, she reaches down to touch the specimen and feel the intricate patterns in its little arm-like structures. "Atromyces pyxidates," she whispers.  She's been determined to teach herself scientific names of some of her favorites.  Though her brain has relegated the sound of her heartbeat to the background, she hears it thumping fast just the same--a side effect of listening, and of feeling the metal against her skin.  Her heart can't help but feel excited to be listened to this way.  Without realizing, she closes her eyes and leans back on the makeshift bench.
She must have dozed off, she realizes, opening her eyes to the trail and the woods surrounding her, ear tips still in place, permitting her to hear slower heartbeats  now.  She immediately gets a vague feeling of no longer being alone, and when she looks to her right, there seems to be...a figure?  But if there is, they're blending into the foliage remarkably well.  She focuses her eyes and sees an outline of various fungi--trametes versicolor in all of its sandstone-like variations, ganoderma sessile with its bold burgundy, trichaptum biforme with its tousled violet trim.  She focuses in and out, unbelieving.  Is she seeing lactarius indigo...eyes?  She immediately registers that indigo milkcap is one of her "bucket list" mushrooms with its beautiful pastel purple gills.  But what is she looking at?  How are all of these fungi in a cluster, and appearing to be standing upright in some vague humanoid form?  She shakes her head for a second, takes off her stethoscope and rises from her seat to approach this fungal mass.  Suddenly, a voice calls out, sounding partially like wind, and partially like a person of indeterminate gender.  "We have a question," the voice states.  Vera is stunned, struck dumb.  Several moments pass before she has the courage to ask, "Where are you?"  "Everywhere," the voice answers cryptically.  This feels like the opening scene to a horror film, and I'm the dumbass who goes into the woods alone, she thinks.  "We just have a question," it repeats.  Vera takes a deep breath, considers running, then allows her curiosity to win, hoping it doesn't get her killed.  "Ok.  What's your question?" she asks.
She wasn't sure what to expect, but a lecture from a deep, throaty voice that conjured images of James Earl Jones and Lauren Bacall at different intervals definitely didn't crack the top forty of possibilities her imagination had conjured.  "We have been trampled by countless careless bipedal and quadrupedal species.  Some have come in groups, making loud noises and disrespecting their surroundings.  Bickering with one another about 'jobs,' 'relationships,' and all other manner of irrelevant matters.  They do not often clear away the rubbish they bring.  The quadrupedal species, at least, have behaved the same way, more or less, for centuries.  They are predictable, but so are you bipedals, in your way.  You are consistently selfish and self-centered, but you have developed more advanced means of centering everything around you over the years."  Vera stands, strangely entranced by this deep, rhythmic voice rather than horrified at this scenario, not to mention what sounds like blanket contempt for humanity.  "What do you mean, centuries?" she finally asks. "What are you?"  For a while, she hears nothing.  Maybe they're not taking further questions, she thinks sarcastically.  "We are the mycelial network," the voice intones, just as Vera had begun to wonder if the conversation was over.  "We have seen what you cannot imagine in your short lifetime, but we haven't seen a hiker with your metallic tool, placing it on their body as you have.  We observed, but have not gained better understanding in the time you have been perched on the fallen host."  Vera turns and stares at the tree trunk.  She wonders if she would have been better off being caught listening by some school kids who would laugh at her and call her a freak.  At least that would follow some line of logic she's familiar with.  But she said she was going to practice talking about this, and so what if that involves going slightly (or wildly) insane in the process?  "It's called a stethoscope," she says, her eyes darting around the forest as it sinks in that the "mycelial network" is virtually everywhere.  "I, um...I have always liked them," she continues, her voice cracking when she tries to project.  "I love to listen to heart sounds with them, and I love to have someone else listen to my heart.  I wanted to hear my own heart beating fast when I got winded on this hike.  That's what it is and what it's about...for me, anyway.  It makes me feel a part of all of this somehow, like stripping existence down to its core," she says, gesturing vaguely toward the woods themselves.  Vera gulps, realizing that she's taking this situation seriously, when deep down she knows she must be dreaming.
"Curious," the voice seems to say after a pause for consideration.  "May we listen as well?"  Vera's brow crinkles.  "Ye--yes?" she says, high-pitched at the end like a question.  She picks up her stethoscope and holds it up.  In response, a spate of stereum ostrea rushes forth, the end of the structure taking shape like fingers.  Vera watches, jaw agape, as the binaurals disappear into the vegetation.  She hopes this isn't the last she'll see of her stethoscope.  After some manipulation of the instrument, the appendage moves toward her, chest piece "in hand."  Though this sight is surreal and she's tempted to run, she obediently sits down on the tree trunk.  Her heart starts to pound--it can't help it.  Her breathing turns quick and shallow.  What did she agree to?  How can someone be frightened and excited all at once?  The "arm" presses the chest piece against her bare skin.  The metal feels amazing; being listened to is always precious.  She sits quietly while the chest piece is moved around every available inch of her chest.  Is this me communing with nature? she wonders.  In a way that no one will ever believe if I tried to explain it?  It's certainly nothing like being auscultated at the doctor, she quickly realizes--this entity has no notion of aortic, pulmonic, tricuspid, and mitral valves, intercostal spaces, Erb's point, or anything else she's read in a textbook or on some cardiology website.  Instead, what feels like the entirety of her chest is combed meticulously, like some unfamiliar landscape.  The feeling of being the center of attention is divine.  Her heart pounds wildly, skips, and dances like it's performing--a euphoric but strange feeling when there isn't another human being to perform for.  She closes her eyes and her mind just goes blank.  She feels the most joy and peace she has in ages.  Yes, this was 100% worth the drive, she thinks, sighing contentedly.  She feels the presence of the listener somehow, but it says nothing more.
After a few more minutes, she opens her eyes and notices that her stethoscope is sitting on the bench.  Beside it is a small, fallen branch from one of the trees--one that wasn't there before.  She picks it up and notices it's covered in stereum ostrea.  She cradles the branch and runs her hand down the burnt sienna and eggshell-colored blooms, confused as ever.  "Hello?" she calls out into the brush.  There's no reply.  "So I did fall asleep," she says out loud.  This is the most sensible conclusion, but she can't shake the knowledge that the branch with the false turkey tail adornment wasn't lying on the bench a few minutes ago.  She decides she's never telling anyone this happened--they'd assume she was eating the wrong mushrooms.  She can't help but look at her surroundings a little differently, and with a knowing smile, as she gathers her belongings to continue her trek.  She quickly eats a granola bar and carefully places the empty wrapper inside her backpack before moving on.

When a Sumeruan Fungus Meets an Inazuman Fox
Pairing: Blitzara & Yae Miko (platonic ofc) Rating: Gen Summary: "Kon!" The light-red fox barked inquisitively, to the purple fungus' confusion.
Was this truly their mistress from before? A furry, four-legged creature?
The fungus spun around the kit once, then twice, as though to ascertain something.
Not a single thought behind those mushroom eyes.
Y'know what? They decided not to question it too much.
Their mistress was a very nice human, unlike all the other humans that cowered on sight or thirsted for its life with the waving of their sharp, metal vines. She was like kin; a fellow mushroom friend even though she did not sport a mushroom cap. Occasionally she did remind them of a Rishboland Tiger but, again, the fungus did not think too much about it.
The furry little light-red thing shall be another one of their new friends.

You are not a mind, you are not a body. Neither stardust nor dying meat.
 You are an ecosystem.
You are flumes of blood embedded deep in your muscles, tough transparent strings of nerves branching from your spine, and thin layers of tissue folding over each other like buds of furled petals. You are the humid caverns of your lungs, the rise and fall of flowing air.
The light shines through your eyelids like leaves of a rosy canopy, beads of sundew glistening on the flytraps beneath. Where fungus forms on the craggy undersides of fallen trees among ferns and thick vegetation, feeding on the decomposition left over on the skeletal remains of prey.
You wish to be filled with the vivid colors of macaws and fan-winged butterflies, flutterimg in the dark clearings and caverns of your flesh. But you cannot force the air under their vibrant wings to carry forth the rhythmic river surges of your drumbeat heart.
You are not made to be ethereal. You are substance and hunger, the dense undergrowth and the tigers slipping through narrow paths in the darkness-- their spines snaking and arching under sleek pelts, black slits in topaz eyes.
You are not meant to be a brutal divinity of droughts, suffocating them under your skin.
You are the scabby backs of armored gators in broad muddy rivers, overhung with tatters of moss. The ivory tusks, and rancid jaws, yellow claws and reptilian spines. The pythons coiled around thick branches, soft scales warmed by the dappled sun, the way their bodies pulse slowly forward in the wake of contracting muscle.
You are not a parasite of an astral realm, chained by the nature of your host.
You are the cycle of life and death.
You are an ecosystem.

Tiger's Eye - Coltricia perennis
The fungus can be used in dry flower arrangements or on toy train settings.
- from Baroni's Mushrooms of the Northeastern United States and Eastern Canada
I love how gloriously specific and random this is. Guy loves trains and fungi and he ain't give a heck. 🚂

@fluffydogsquad submitted: With Halloween approaching, I wanted to submit some orangey/black bugs I’ve seen this year (all from NJ). Hope this many pictures isn’t too long. Are those eggs on the back of the crane fly looking bug? And if possible, I’d like IDs for the caterpillar? and the yellower moth.
Also, the Isabella Tiger moth (whose orange legs I just noticed today) was super clingy and had to be coaxed off my hand after the photo session. I recognized the pleasing fungus from another post on your blog, and I love the giant eyes on the fly.

They’re not eggs on the crane fly but mites! There are parasitic mites and phoretic mites, and I’m not sure which ones these are. Isabella tiger moths do indeed have very fancy orange legs! Good shot of that. I love the giant fly eyes too :) The yellow moth with the funky hairdo looks like a goldenrod stowaway, which is a noctuid. The caterpillars are SUPER COOL let me share one:
Tumblr media
Nice :)) Photo by giffbeaton
The caterpillar I’m afraid I’m not sure! I feel like I recognize it and it’s just not coming to me and couldn’t find it online. Caterpillars can be hard to track down they they don’t have any easily recognizable markings. If anyone knows what it is, feel free to share!
You’re definitely right about the pleasing fungus beetle, too, good job! And of course the last pal is a spotted lady beetle. Thanks for sharing all these pals, I love them!
