Okayyy, I grabbed a bunch of this year's (plus one from December, technically two) actually like "finished drawings" and ramble abt the good, the bad, and the ugly. I just watched an artists tier their art. So yeah lol maybe I'm in the mood to ramble abt mine lol. Below the cut because...so many pictures lol.

Like, don't get me wrong, I loooooove this Frances drawing, but like. It's kinda just there. Like I feel good when I see it. But I WANT IT TO FEEL MORE AAAAA. Like I'm sure abt almost all of these, I just wish I had given it an atmosphere. I actually think this has a cute light palette it actually kinda works. But I wish I had actual lighting in it <3. Where is the vibe and scene?! I think I should go old photograph. Which is what I wanted to do, but I have no idea how. I still plan on expanding out this drawing, maybe changing it slightly, so hopefully, I will do that better!! I also kinda put this Andy with it. Because I feel kinda the same abt it. I think both lack shadows too, which goes with lack of environment. But I think the soft feel of Andy's is nice! I'm glad I colored it. And actually think I like how undefined the background it on this one. It does something for me! Oh didn't mean it, but love the contrast of the complimentary book cover! Didn't intend that, just picked a book I enjoy and think Andy would enjoy. But like that affect.

Despite really feeling like Andy is still not mixed with the background, I actually really like this one! I think toneally it has a vibe. And it's just like a portrait so I cannot complain too much!

I really enjoy this Mary and Frank piece! I love the colors and like how its kinda painterly but still heavily influenced by the sketch and it can still be seen. I like that I attempted more usage of different hues, not sticking to the main color. Like Mary's sleeve? LOVE THAT. Same with the sweater detail on Frank! I put the Kik one with it because for a quick sketch turned painting I think it is good. I like the vibe. I think I should either heavily fix it or redo it. I think if I keep going at it, I can make it a piece I am really proud of!

Okay, admittedly, I put these together because they're kinda the same size but lol. Andy; tried something new, think I heavily failed. But I DO like the colors and like I tried texture, though you can tell I didn't know what to do with it lol. The Lincoln, this piece is rlly old, AND IT WAS BADDDD. I think the half assed fixed version is 1000% better. It's by no means perfect. I rEALLY like the shadow of his head on the pillow. But aha, just wish there was more. But overall not terrible! I like it for what it is. And has a special place for being like my first Lincoln piece that wasn't just his fatigues one. :")

LOVE THE VIBE, I like Grayscale, like the intense shadow. I think the shadows on him could be a but nicer of course. And I do think his hair was kinda poorly done but oh well. I am not the biggest fan of his face? It's not bad, but I think I have done better John faces. I do know; I detailed his face in color and I think I like that better lol.

Lincoln, like, I like the face and coloring of that but it's just so meh. It's a figure like I always do. I like the coloring a lot more when I went back and added deeper shadows. But idk. It's okay </3. And oh!! I group a different Lincoln picture with this one, it has no background but the shadows on his uniform are SO good. It made me loooovve the drawing. And is still a fave. It is what inspired me to add deeper shadows here.

And I've never shared this version of this John drawing. It's a shaving cream prank. Dear God. Help me. I love how John's body turned out. I think his face is nice; its okay. I think I sucked at again giving him a shadow. I couldn't commit to the main shadow and I think it just kinda sucked all life from it. With the Lincoln drawing I don't like the background. With the John one I am torn. I think I should have detailed the ground more? Maybe? Idk. These two, Frank by the water and Andy reading, were all close together and done in January, and they all kinda have the same bckgrnd theme. Idk how I feel abt that choice. For the guys' anyways.

Actually seeing all of these were nice! Because I actually do like nearly all of these pieces! And I feel nervous but very inspired to keep trying to motivate myself to finally take that final step. And maybe try to play into that for the entire piece, not just adding it at the end...and not adding it. I rlly want to try to get a bit more creative too, like interesting things not just person standing there. But idk.

Alright guys I’m rating the new hypmic outfits please don’t get mad at me and here’s an image for reference

ichiro— not digging the oversized thing for some reason even tho I normally do? Nothing glaringly wrong with it tho like it’s not that bad. I’m glad his pants are black/gray (?) tho because idk I think it would’ve looked cluttered with any other colors

i will say (and this is probably only valid for me but) black and red are my schools colors and I’m having flashbacks to spirit wear days which is slightly upsetting JCJSJDNSNNSHS Ichiro would never go to my school if he were real tho he’s too good for a place like this 💔

jiro— his shirt is so plain couldn’t he have used a more interesting font 😭 spice it up a bit,,,,BUT it’s not that bad either I actually really like him with glasses so that’s good! hmm I don’t really like the hat tho. Overall it’s ok

saburo— at least his hair doesn’t look like it did with that one other outfit 😭 you know the one . I can’t tell if his pants are jeans or sweatpants tho. Also like I said before idk why but I’m not loving Ichiros oversized shirt but I DO like the fit of saburos

samatoki— well 😭 his outfit kinda gives off art h*e vibes which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but I feel like HE would view it as bad and wouldnt like that. Also so much of it is unbuttoned and I can’t stop laughing. I kinda wish there wasn’t so much white in the outfit tho I mean what do I know I’m no designer but! Idk

jyuto— idk. idk WHAT to say. I am really not a fan of this sorry jyuto I just. What were you trying to accomplish here 😭 why are the sleeves of his jacket so long what’s going on. Where am I what is this

rio— I mean. It’s just an oversized green t shirt and baggy green sweatpants 😭 neither of them have any design on it so it’s kinda boring? green is my favorite color tho so I can’t be too harsh on him also I like the shoes but not necessarily with this outfit. But like I don’t understand like why is his outfit just. A t shirt and sweatpants with literally like nothing else 😭 is it supposed to be a minimalist thing??? Because I mean. Listen. LISTEN. This is not the way to go about it

ramuda— ok so I kinda like the general style like I like the shirt and shorts a bit but not the colors 💔 but it’s not that I don’t like that it’s colorful it’s just I don’t like the.colors they used ig 😭 idk but it’s kinda cool to see him with a middle part ig although I do like his normal hair better I think. Either way I expected better from him he’s supposed to be a designer like come on dude

gentaro— actually I like his a lot! It’s not too flashy and it looks nice and elegant and it fits his usual style!! Also it shows his arms and I cannot remember ever seeing them before so that’s interesting! I also like his hair but again I like his regular hair much better

dice— BRAID BRAID BRAID BRAID!!!! If I try hard enough I can pretend it’s not a mullet underneath the braid so that’s nice!! As for the outfit it’s meh idk. The print is too in your face in my opinion and idk I don’t really like it like idk what it is about it but I find it kinda :/ yknow and I also feel like it doesn’t really suit him like it doesn’t scream “dice”

actually idk why but I have this really specific floral design in mind that wouldve kept the colors of his current jacket including being mostly black in the background that I think wouldve looked nicer but I can’t draw rn so

doppo— well I like this color!!! So that’s good!!!!! Not really sure what’s going on here tho I feel like they should’ve done a little to break up the shirt from the pants 😭

kuko— again I do like green a lot so he gets points for that!! But idk i actually don’t have much of a problem with this I just don’t know if green is his color but I like the pants! So! like they’re a good length idk I actually do like his I think

jyushi— I really like the like laced up bits by the shoulder!!! Also it’s super cool to see his hair in a ponytail or whatever that is!! If I close my eyes I can pretend he doesn’t have a mullet 💚

anyway I know the colors are SUPPOSED to clash a bit but it still bothers me JDJSJDJJSS other than that tho the outfits ok but I do wish the pants were higher waisted!!! His shirt looks like umm the uniform for this one restaurant I’ve been to so that’s fun

rosho— I miss his glasses put them back please please they look good! I guess we got to see Jiro with them at the expense of Rosho???? Also I’m gonna assume he’s wearing contacts cuz. Anyways the outfit is? Idk? I’m not sure what’s going on here I don’t really know like I’m a little confused but at least it has a fairly simple color palette (and not TOO simple like Rio)

rei— now what the heck is this outfit what is going on here I don’t know what to think. I don’t. If he was gonna wear a cowboy hat why didn’t he make the rest of his outfit fit that? Why did he then decide to dress vaguely like a librarian and then unbutton his shirt??

Day 11

Title: Timidity

Note: I’m sorry that this is probably a little shorter. I took the fattest nap today and got held back on my work. Plus I’m working on Shirabu’s at the same time and do not worry, there are no deaths here. Just the normal angst.

Doubt. The feeling that she’d leave him at any second. Even with reassurances, he kept asking himself if he was actually good enough. Compared to his best friend, Tsukishima Kei, he was nothing. How did this doubt start? Everytime a girl came to him, he thought it was because of him. After all, they were glancing down with a sprinkle of pink washed across their cheeks.

“What’s your friend’s name?”

The normal everyday question. Of course it wasn’t him. It was always Tsukishima, no matter what.

He told them but Tsukishima always turned them down. Yamaguchi wondered what it was like to be so loved to reject all of them in order to continue playing the chosen sport. Yamaguchi, however, had fallen for another girl and that was his best friend, Y/N L/N.

Whenever Tsukishima was away to go somewhere else, Yamaguchi would follow but soon he got tired of it. A girl came up to him and he braced himself for the question.

“Do you want to sit with me?” Y/N had asked, a bright grin on her face.

That threw him off and he found himself agreeing and following after her. He didn’t know how to start the conversation, so they sat in silence for a heartbeat. Then Y/N looked at him and said, “You know, you don’t have to be shy around me, I’m not going to ask about your friend like the other girls.”

He glanced at her and shook his head. “Are you sure you’re not going to ask about him?”

“Mm, no, he’s not really all that interesting to me. You’re smart, you’re nicer than him and you’re definitely more approachable. I mean, girls do go to you rather than him, even if it is to ask about him.” Y/N took a bite of her food, smiling at him.

Yamaguchi stared at her, completely interested in her. “What’s your name?”

“Y/N L/N.”

“Yamaguchi Tadashi.”

The rest of lunch time was made up of them sharing small talk and sometimes a few laughs, but overall, Yamaguchi had found his new best friend. The girl that he’d be falling for soon enough, yet something that would bring their relationship to their demise.

“Yamaguchi, are you coming with me right now? We can go to the new restaurant today!” Y/N said once she entered the gym, where all of the boys were already changing into their uniforms.

Tsukishima looked over at Yamaguchi, who had been staring at Y/N with sparkles in his eyes. It was obvious that he truly did like her, yet Y/N made no sign as if to knowing this or not. She never looked at any other guy though, she mainly focused on Yamaguchi, a small smile on her face whenever she looked at him.

“Yeah, I’ll go with you right now!” After saying goodbye to the rest of the team, some of them with knowing smiles, Yamaguchi followed after Y/N.

The streets were empty at this hour, the streetlights flickering and usually this would spark a bit of fear into Yamaguchi, seeing as that was the start of a murder scene most of the time. However, something about Y/N was warm and comforting and encouraging as they walked together.

“You’re getting better at your serves, you know that right? You started off a little awkward, but look at you now you’ve trained to get here and you deserve it.” Y/N gazed at him, the corner of her lips upturned in a smile, causing him to smile as well.

It was something he loved a lot about her. She was genuine, honest but not brutally honest as to hurt his feelings. Y/N was a good person and that smile of hers caused him to fall further for her.

The restaurant was in their vision and it was a lovely and cozy scene. Wooden floors, a honey color palette for the design and the smell of something exquisite being cooked in the kitchen. It was obvious that Y/N was excited as they sat down and got their food.

The environment felt like home and Y/N with him? He never wanted the moment to end, not even when she had paid which made him pout.

“Thank you.” Y/N blurted.

“For what?” He looked at her bewildered as they stopped in front of her house. “I just came along with you.”

“Not just for that.” She looked up at him and as quick as a flash, she pressed her lips against his before turning away and heading back inside of her house.

He stared after her, his heart leaping into his throat as he processed what had just happened and a crescent-moon smile spread across his face. She was different. He hadn’t been wrong about her and now the feelings were mutual.

But now...now was different. They were currently in their third year, Yamaguchi was now the captain and had regained a new confidence on the court. That, however, did not mean that he was nervous about being in a relationship. He thought that he wasn’t good enough to treat Y/N the way she should’ve been treated. Relationships were one of the hardest things to get into, but oh so easy to get rid of and thrown away.

Y/N, in her third year, had this aura that caused everyone in the room to turn and look at her. She was much different than in her first year. Both of them had changed a lot, only her love for Yamaguchi had never wavered.

Today was obviously not a good day for Y/N. She entered her house with a frown on her face and slammed down her bag in the corner as Yamaguchi walked in behind her. He gave her space for the rest of the day, but anxiety started creeping on him as there was no end of her fury in sight. He blurted a question out and regretted it on the spot. “Y/N, do you love me?”

She whipped around and frowned. “Tadashi, this is the fifteenth time this week you’ve asked me that. I kept track. You realize I do love you, right? Why do you keep doubting my love for you?”

“I just....” He couldn’t say his fears out loud, terrified that they would become reality.

She rubbed her eyes staring at him. “Tadashi. I do love you, but please...don’t ask me that so often, I know I don’t say it often, but that does not change my love for you.”

“Why do we never go to the restaurant anymore, then? Have I done something wrong?”

“No! I’ve been busy and so have you!”

“But even with my captain duties, you could’ve asked...”

“Are you saying that this is my fault?”

“No, not at all! I’m just saying that we haven’t been communicating, so it keeps sending mixed signals to me! Plus you’ve been hanging out with two other guys instead of me.”

Y/N chuckled darkly, her rage simmering inside of her as she tried to keep it under wraps. “They’re just the guys I tutor, I get paid to tutor them.”

“You used to do it out of the goodness of your heart. What changed? What have I done? What did I do? If I’ve done something to you, tell me, I’ll fix it.” His doubts were back in his mind, fracturing his view on her again. Y/N had the side that was lovable and the side that he was utterly afraid of getting on. And, this time, there was no going back.

“Tadashi, please stop it. Stop making me seem like the bad guy, I’m not the bad guy! You’re the captain, you know your own schedule more than I know yours. I know you’re afraid of me leaving you, you’ve talked about it to Hinata more often than not. You’re the one doubting me.”

“Maybe I am.” Once the words were in the air, his eyes widened and he wished he could take them back. But they just kept coming. “Maybe I thought too highly of you. You don’t care for anyone but yourself.”

Her hands fell to her side as she stared at him. “If you think I’m that selfish, maybe we shouldn’t be together.”

“Wait, Y/N--I do love you, please--”

“Then why do you keep asking if I still love you when you know I do?!”

She wasn’t the person he knew anymore. He couldn’t look in her eyes. It was also his fault for not communicating with her, letting his insecurities take over. He stood up and looked at her. “Did it ever occur to you that you’re hurting me too?”

With those words, he left her place, never looking back. His mind was screaming at him to go back, to apologize, but both of them had become too different to be together. Maybe go back to being friends; however, everyone knew that once you broke up with your once best friend, it would be difficult to go back to normal.

Yamaguchi Tadashi, captain of Karasuno and the glue of the team, was not the glue for himself. He went back home, silent tears streaming down his cheeks as he tried to wipe them away with the palm of his hand. The only girl that had ever accepted him and they drove each other away.

Maybe it was for the best.

But that didn’t mean it wouldn’t scar him.

Orange is Anger/Revenge (and part of Logan)

I had a weird headcannon... and then this happened. I don’t really believe this theory, but there is a lot of evidence and it’s technically possible... so who knows.

Each of the OG light sides has had a dark side counterpart who was introduced (Patton-Janus, Roman-Remus). Unless Anxiety is Logic’s dark side, which is possible (rational vs irrational, exemplified by the debate episode), I think that Orange will appear to combat Logan

Small sidetrack here, but one thing I’ve always wondered about is that fact that Logan should have little to no emotional expression, due to his functions. However, he seems to show only slightly less than the others, primarily the emotion anger (“flames on the sides of my face”, yelling falsehood, basically any argument with Roman). Even the times where he shows loneliness, it’s often expressed passive aggressively (“...I will spare you my company”).

Logan’s color palette is also very interesting, as he is the only “light” side that has black as a primary part. (I know he was already based on a character from vine and it might not have been chosen with intent, but still). Every “dark” side we’ve seen primarily used black with an accent color, and Virgil as a “reformed” dark side still is very dark.

C!Thomas seems to be an incredibly reactive person, but almost never is that reaction anger (except in SvS-R, and episode where Logan is notably ignored/“optional”). Most times he is just stressed/confused/hurt. I feel like this shows the fact that he’s learned to repress that anger very well.

I personally believe that Logan is the one who has been repressing this anger (at the subconscious will of Thomas). I think it’s possible that the orange side, or OJ, as I’ve seen others refer to him, used to be more active and acted much like current Virgil, using his “negative” emotions to help Thomas and work through things. Anger isn’t necessarily bad, but we’ve seen that Thomas (and Patton) repress things that make them feel like a bad person. I’m wondering if there was possibly some instance that made OJ want to react drastically to that led to his current repression (coming out and angry that the world is not accepting? Argument with someone he cared for? Idk).

The reason I think Logan is repressing him is because logic can almost always be used to overpower “irrational” emotions, and any of the other sides might have been overwhelmed and taken his side. I believe that the opposite of what happened with Roman and Remus happened here, Logan forcing himself to keep OJ down so much that they eventually fused to be come one. Logan now deals with anger constantly, but represses most of it under the surface, while continuing with his normal functions. OJ still has influence in this state, as he hasn’t “ducked out” like Virgil and is still active, just with less influence.

This will come to a head soon (maybe after Roman gets some assistance and Virgil’s “juicy” plot line, maybe before) because of how Logan is being treated by the others. While Thomas did call him cool lately, most of the treatment he’s gotten from the others has been rough. Roman is clearly trying to be nicer, but... he still doesn’t really seem to value him. Everyone ignored him in SvS, and Patton and Roman explicitly ignored him in SvS-R, with that leading to him being taken by Janus (with a cane around the neck, yikes. Painful and humiliating). Even in DWIT, no one really values him until he completely makes his point and proves that he is right. Virgil even says “you can’t Logic your way out of this one”, completely disregarding his purpose and ignoring him, which we all know he hates.

Basically, in my “theory”, he’s going to be more on edge and upset in the next episodes, and depending on whether or not the other sides know about OJ’s predicament, they’ll either gaslight him or walk on eggshells around him. Both would upset him more until he reaches a breaking point (possibly caused by Logan and OJ agreeing that something someone said is both upsetting AND factually inaccurate) leading to a split.

(Unlikely but possible evidence - the 07734 in SvS-R has a blue underneath the orange of the text)

Completely arbitrary speculation time! (As if this hadn’t been already) - Whether or not OJ will become a permanent side depends on what it think his appearance will be like. If this is all true and he is only there temporarily before Logan reabsorbs him (unlikely, but not improbable), I think Logan will gain a white shirt and anger will look very similar to him, maybe with a black shirt and orange bow tie (maybe with a white suit jacket)? If they split permanently, then Logan will probably keep his attire with out any changes, and OJ might have a white shirt to balance him out. I don’t think he will look incredibly evil, maybe more like a sharp business man because of the way anger can be persuasive.

After the split, Logan will probably be out of commission for the rest of the episode (like Roman during DWIT) while OJ makes the others upset. His primary goal would likely be to make everyone as angry as him and prove to Thomas that he shouldn’t be repressed. For maximum fun, maybe he takes them all to one of the rooms? My personal belief is that Logan’s could force them all to speak the factual truth without being able to soften the blow, and OJ’s would likely just increase overall agitation, so either would work.

Ulysses || Waterworld

Somewhere in 1996, a young boy and possibly his cohorts are sitting on a dirty couch or splayed across a carpeted den floor ridden with crumbs or something like it. In the VCR is a rented copy of an infamous film of one kind or another from the local discount video rental which ran a special every Thursday, 10 videos for 10 dollars. If a new film was considered especially bad, it skipped the “New Releases” and made its way right to the genre section. Children are especially gullible. Or inexperienced. Or stupid. But they do know a bargain and have more than enough time to waste. The stack probably consisted of a few new and repeat rentals: Thunder in Paradise, Surf Ninjas, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Twelve Monkeys, Billy Madison, Clueless, Bad Boys. Basically, anything our parents wouldn’t want us to buy. (My parents notoriously lacked the ability to understand the ratings system of both film and later games.) And yet, there was one special gem that stands out as being universally un-cult, un-loved, and yet known round the globe: Waterworld. Fast-forward twenty-three years and those same ugly kids are sitting on nicer couches and carpetless floors about to make the same mistake all over again. A recently rebuilt, full length, uncut copy dubbed “Ulysses” was released. A 3-hour cut made up of unreleased material and television edit made for a surprisingly nostalgic afternoon. It was like wasting time as a kid all over again.

First, a couple of thoughts on the new version that was released to give you an idea of the overall changes.The “Ulysses” cut of Waterworld seems to be some kind of fan created cut, including all of the cut material from the theatrical version, some scenes from the television cut, and an altered color palette that made everything more crisp and bright. It differs largely from the VHS version I had seen as a kid, obviously sharper with high definition, but jarring in that it had more than the 3 colors associated with the end of the world. Strangely, the new scenes somehow didn’t seem out of place. It was longer, but I couldn’t tell where the old content ended and the new content began, though there are some scenes edited in that were clearly never finished. You can see an island in the background that shouldn’t be there and there are a couple layers of post-production missing. What I can say for certain is the brighter color palette was not the best decision. While it made the ocean look a deeper shade of blue, it felt less gloomy. This was supposed to be a dystopian world covered in both water and despair. This new cut made it feel a bit more like a children’s adventure film without the fun, wonder, or sense of adventure found in films like The Goonies or Pirates of the Caribbean. It was like slapping some color on Twelve Monkeys and busting it down to a PG-13 rating. Still, it's the best the modern world has to offer.

The most memorable thing about this film for me has always been Kevin Costner and Dennis Hopper. If you can’t remember, the characters largely live by their titles and don’t have traditional names. Costner played the lead as “Mariner”, a mutated human with ability to breath underwater. The Mariner’s character arc is inadequate and unfulfilling. It confused me as much today as it did when I was a kid. Let’s take Terminator 2 as an example. Cyberdyne Model T101 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) has more character growth in both action and attitude than Costner’s drift wooden Mariner. They both have similar interactions with their allies, but the Terminator actually gets along with both kids and mothers, like Kix cereal. In the 80’s and 90’s this was a pretty common character dynamic, stoic-seeming adults learning from kids. You might think Waterworld is going to follow this dynamic, but instead its sets a course on an endless desert ocean, drained of character and depth, and opts instead to make our hero as bland as his surroundings. The Mariner isn’t without his good points though. He does sail spectacularly and has some fun tricks up his sleeve both on and off the boat. But Costner appears to have absolutely no feeling in every delivery. Even when he's mad, it doesn’t feel right. I thought the extended edition would give me a deeper glimpse into his arc or growth, but it’s non-existent. Costner plays a truly mutated character.

Waterworld does have an ocean of visual treasures to offer, to borrow a washed out metaphor. The seafaring is entertaining and well shot. The props all have carved Styrofoam look that remind you of a swashbuckling children’s film, but oddly it doesn’t detract from the dystopian feel the production is meant to have. The floating sets really do feel like functioning habitats, but if you look to long, you get the feeling that the design department went a bit too far in trying to make the barges look like they were made from debris, to the point that it becomes a comical game of “I Spy”. This stage-like quality was especially present in the new “Ulysses” cut, which also has the added benefit of having the film upgraded to 4k (or visually adjacent) which gave definition where it was strategically vague in its initial release. The murky browns, greys, and blurred lines of the 90’s era VHS cinematic apocalypse have given way to the fine lines and details of technological advancement. Like human age, its both a service of time and largely for the better, but it has its downsides. Stunts that were hard to make out are crystal clear and even more impressive, although in its clarity, it looks like a professional stunt show from Disneyland or Universal Studios, which makes perfect sense. I think I read that Waterworld was one of the most popular attractions at Universal Studios despite the movie not being a hit.

Finally, the overall nature of the world our characters reside in is epic in physical size, the whole world (presumably) is covered by water, but quaint in execution. This level of focus becomes a strength. The actors get to take a stand in front of this expansive stage and put on their best pirate act. If you can imagine, spending lots of time on the water could be stressful, and you get the feeling that the actors felt taxed by working in this manner. There is an underlying tension to every scene, even the more lighthearted ones. The production was plagued with bad weather, lost time, rebuilds, and a lengthy edit that caused the director to quit. But from this hellscape, there is a salvageable adventure story that rides at the precipice of an ever crashing wave, teetering between campy fun and a bizarre wipe-out. There is even a faint religious reasoning to the actions taken by the villains that didn’t make much of the theatrical cut. The people of the barges breed a life for each one lost, but the raiders believe in a sort of manifest destiny, take everything they can see and living much more freely than their environment can withstand, evident by the large number of children living on their ship in terrible conditions. But even the films darkest moments play for bold laughs and bravado.

This was, in my mind, the story of a person, basically a god amongst the people of his world, who wanted nothing but to take. He could breathe underwater and dive so deep that he could get soil, the currency of the world on top of the water, pay for whatever he wanted, and leave them with nothing. Its true, he couldn’t help everyone, but he chose to help no one. Until of course he owed a debt. A debt he tries to renege on a few times throughout the film. There was something there to explore, but they only ever scratch the surface of the Mariner. Instead, we go a long way to see a man make a single grand gesture that absolves him of all of his sins. Ultimately, Waterworld is an excuse to make a sci-fi/fantasy action movie on the water, floating on an inflated ego and a bloated budget in the middle of a monsoon, and yet somehow, it stays afloat until the credits.

favorite movie: i don’t watch that much movies actually, i get super invested in them and it’s tiring. ghibli is always a safe bet. i really liked the theory of everything, yves saint laurent, and the normal heart (hard to watch though). favorite director: no one in particular! i don’t have enough knowledge in this kind of media to really tell the difference between directors. favorite tv show: i love brooklyn nine-nine! also master of none. a masterpiece, god bless. favorite game: all naughty dog stuff, just for the design and graphics. but my fave has to be the last guardian.  favorite song: if you ask me tomorrow it’ll be a different one, but as of right now, probably rhinestone eyes by gorillaz  favorite musician: same deal, it varies a lot depending on the time of year, mood, recent releases, etc. im currently in a big gorillaz phase.  favorite book(s): philip pullman’s trilogy his dark materials. favorite author: hard to pick just a specific person. im more interested in poetry than novels, and i have a tendency to just read random pieces and not someone’s complete works. with exceptions of course. favorite animal: well, there isn’t enough time in the world to make a complete list, but pangolins always make the cut favorite color: not sure. i like blues and greens... and black. a palette of hues looks nicer to me than one specific color.  favorite smell: probably cinnamon!  favorite texture: depends on the day. soft things more often than not. also im always happy to peel potatoes bc the texture is just so?? nice and you can cut through them so clean? im weird alright.  favorite drink: mmmfruit juice. usually orange.  favorite food: candy .. soft pretzels .. fluffy pastries and overall any kind of food i shouldn’t be eating  favorite flower: violets i think! favorite stone/gem: opal or moonstone, but really anything that looks kinda cool and colorful i’ll like. favorite place: reynisfjara in iceland. favorite website: bluhhh. tumblr or youtube i suppose.  favorite memory: once when kaj played with other dogs and he looked so damn happy and i cried lol weak  favorite quote: “for small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love”, carl sagan favorite poem: oh man i can’t just pick one. i’ll make a separate list someday. a short, funny, self-indulgent one that always cheers me up is happy endings by shel silverstein  favorite thing to do: cuddling?  favorite item of clothing: my old levi’s jean jacket  favorite store: ?? no idea. i mostly shop online and buy stuff when it’s available at a low price. yep. favorite trip: not sure. they’re all very different and have had their ups and downs. my iceland trip with my dad?  favorite device: my phone just because it’s easy to search quickly for things and listen to music all the time.  favorite thing about myself: err. i try to be understanding. i can be v loving and affectionate sometimes and it’s difficult to find people who are comfortable with that, but i like this part of me that’s still a huge baby.

Good evening, everyone~! This week’s Thursday Book Club is officially beginning! Today we are discussing Daemon by Akreampuff~! (http://daemon.smackjeeves.com/)

Remember that Thursday discussions are completely freeform! However, every 30 minutes I will drop in OPTIONAL discussion questions in case you’d like a bit of a prompt. If you miss out on one of these prompts, you can find them pinned for the chat’s duration. Additionally, remember that while constructive criticism is allowed, our focus is fun and respectfully appreciating the comic. All that said, let’s begin!

QUESTION 1. What is your favorite scene in the comic so far and why?

my favorite scene is probably the one where billie transforms. this is largely due to it overcoming my expectations, cause a lot of transformation sequences are graceful or maybe even silly. even when demons are involved whether the demons be bad or good. this one though? this one looks terrifying to go through and i love. its such a cool illustrated scene too between the transitional effects and other sorts of kind of magical effects going around. http://daemon.smackjeeves.com/comics/2477610/page-25/

another scene i really enjoyed was the boat scene, specifically when the banter picks up. i appreciate that billie is not willing to trust zeke, but i also like how chill zeke is. i think it really shows off zeke's character in particular since it seems pretty clear hes empathizing with the situation.

I rather liked when the door blew out due to the fire, sending Billie out into the tree. And I mean "like" as in it got to me, not "oh, that looks fun".

The boat and banter was kinda cool. I mostly liked it for the way it could slip in exposition elements in an entertaining way.

billie getting blown out of the house was a pretty said moment. although i did like this one page where its just debris and her hand http://daemon.smackjeeves.com/comics/2477607/page-22/ maybe im just a sucker for glass debris, but i really loved how it kind of slowed the moment so you could take in what just happened and then the next page really shows that hit and land(edited)

that is also true about the boat scene. the banter was a good balance to keep the exposition entertaining

Right, that's the page just after the one I was thinking of. But that was good too, I kind of pictured her as reaching for her mum but being blown back through the window.

I feel so bad for the mum. I think she was in it just enough to create some empathy. Part of me wonders if Dad came back and accidentally started the fire.

so i consider it highly possible the mom wasnt in the fire

Everyone probably thinks Billie died in the fire either way.

yeah im really curious how she expects to just go back. cause shes been gone long enough that someone probably noticed the fire and investigated and made assumptions. or for one of the supposed victims to turn up out of the blue is the height of suspicion

QUESTION 2. Overall, it’s very obvious Billie has a lot on her plate regarding her newfound demonic lineage. Emotionally, how do you think Billie will come to deal with her situation, both in regards to her heritage and her mother being dead? How long do you think it’ll take her to adjust (if ever)? Do you feel Billie will endeavor to learn to control her newfound powers after Zeke shows her some more? Or, do you feel Billie will return “home” and try to pretend everything is normal at first? Assuming Billie learns at some point, what sorts of things do you think she’ll learn power wise? Speaking of home, what do you think Billie is going to do in regards to that? Overall, how do you see Billie just dealing with the new situation in general?

Could just be a fear of the unknown. And she had that one blonde friend. Kinda.

I feel like one of the things Billie will ask eventually is where's Dad hanging out. I'm not sure if that will help her adjust but I think it'll help her sort some things out.

yeah im surprised insofar shes not the least bit curious about her dad. especially cause her dad must be well known since those medical daemons knew of him.

enough to even say like father like daughter basically

i feel like for a while, billie might emotionally not deal with. like especially if she stays in the caves, its a lot easier to put the events out of mind. or more i mean she might deal with the demon elements and come to accept that, but i think theres other things shell avoid and not hit her till later

Also might not immediately want to meet the guy who's supposedly part of this hybrid breeding program.

Yeah. I wonder if the caves are fireproof. Feels like she might have fire issues later.

actually if her powers wind up being fire related, that has huge implications she started it. and i would hate to be her in the moment she realizes she caused it.

maybe what will inspire billie to meet her dad is anger. like in the sense she needs someone to lash out, and hes the secret demon father who made her and gave her demon blood and sort of got her into the situation.

Maybe the police will investigate and she can get a report to figure out how it all started. She might not be related to fire though, maybe she has powers of just making people uncomfortable, like she did to her classmates.

Maybe. Or maybe she meets him as a trainer and doesn't realize who he is until later.

somewhat off topic, but i really liked that one page on the boat that was all blue and white while zeke was talking about the daemons actually being good. the palette really made them see ethereal, but i like the contrast of how real colors make them look. like without that blue colored glass as it were, its kind of easy to see why someone would hmm if theyre good or bad.

yeah i kind of get the impression satan is that lady too

cause zeke did purposefully not use pronouns that i noticed

I did have a look at the link to the time lapse video on the colouring of one of the pages... interesting how it was flipped horizontally at a couple points, I've never thought of doing that.

Actually, lots of the bonus stuff is pretty fun. Like Zeke's alternate magical transformation, or the 100th page breaking the 4th wall.

Maybe Satan is also the librarian.

QUESTION 3. Vaguely, Zeke mentions that the hybrids were created because daemons needed something from humans. What do you think this thing daemons need is? Will Billie like the answer when she finds out, or is it going to be something that horrifies her? Why are the daemons so desperate they’d even create a breeding program to get it? The comic also talks a bit about the history of daemons. What do you think was said and done in the past to create such a negative view of daemons? What was even the purpose of making them so hated? Also, who was even the main perpetrator of these distortions? Ultimately, how do you believe both the history and the creation of hybrids will play into the story and the daemons’ goals?

Interesting, I guess part of me just thought what they needed was love and attention. But maybe there's something in the genes.

As to the negative view, probably propaganda by cults. Maybe a jilted ex-lover.

Maybe a daemon can only be killed by a hybrid or something. They need one to go on a quest. Or the angel fight's a good one too.

Maybe the daemons have signed something like that they won't do stuff to angels, and so their hands are tied now that some angels have gone rogue. I wonder if there's half angels too.

Oooh. Maybe only hybrids can breed with angels?

QUESTION 4. Besides the history of daemons, there are a few other mysteries floating about. Who do you think burnt down Billie’s house and for what goal? Was Zeke really not involved? Could it have been another daemon? How do you think Billie’s mother even ended up with a daemon? Did Billie’s mother really not know he was a daemon? Alternatively, if she knew, why didn’t she tell Billie? Do you think Billie will get to meet her father? If so, how do you foresee that going? Additionally, how do you think it will go when Billie meets the other hybrids? Will she find newfound friends, or is she doomed to be alone? In general, what future events do you see happening in the comic?

I'm kinda curious to see the other hybrids. The author must have kinda figured them out, they were shown in silhouette early on.

Kinda related, maybe Billie will want to stay just because everyone around now won't have that bad vibe she gave to the other students.

I’m so excited to share this with you guys! I’ve been working on my personal “minimal wardrobe” capsules for a while and it’s taken me quite some time of donating unused items and slowly but surely adding in the items that I need…most importantly, from fair trade and Eco-friendly companies.

I’ve spent a good chunk of time researching fair trade brands, buying various products and checking quality, etc… So I’ve decided to share my finds with you guys as a gift from me to you! I know a lot of people desire to have an ethical wardrobe, but don’t necessarily know where to start, so that’s what this guide is here for.

I’ll start by sharing the most common brands I shop from and why I love them (if you don’t care about this part, scroll to the bottom for the wardrobe capsule)!

Naja Co

Naja is all about supporting women, which I love! Naja is a fair trade lingerie line, also selling active wear, Eco-friendly clothes made from recycled materials, and swimwear. Naja employs women from around the world and shares their story. Each piece you buy, you get the story of the woman who made it. I love that!

Everlane

Everlane is all about radical transparency. They want us to know what they pay for, which factories they��re using, what kind of materials are being used, and how much they’re marking it up. And if you’re following their insta, they have “Transparency Tuesdays” where they answer questions from the community, which is always fun to watch.

Everlane is my go-to for high quality wardrobe staples.

DSTLD

I had such a hard time finding fair trade jeans until I found DSTLD. I love them simply because they sell good quality jeans that I don’t feel bad about wearing. They’re one of the few fair trade brands that I’ve found that sells jeans. They also sell other things such as jackets, T-shirts, and more, but I find them to be a little too pricey for my pocket.

Threading Water

Threading water is my favorite because it’s owned by my good friend’s husband. He along with his business partner and friend decided to do something beyond themselves and help provide water wells to families in need. They started by selling T-shirts and using the funds to build the wells, and now they’ve expanded to a full line of fair trade clothes, with a greater purpose. All of their clothes are so soft and great quality, and the best part is that they are so affordable! I was way impressed with the first shirt I bought.

STEF

STEF is a local, Austin, TX company, so obviously I love this company, because I’m all about supporting local businesses. The products are hand sewn here in Austin, and I love how unique and modern all the pieces are. It’s definitely more on the pricey side of the spectrum, but it’s not too bad if you’re not over shopping in other areas (Yay minimalism)

YSTR

YSTR is a similar concept as Stitch Fix, which I used to use on a month-to-month basis! It’s a subscription based service in which you pay a monthly fee, and then clothes show up at your doorstep. It’s an easy way to build a fair trade and minimalist wardrobe. It is however, a little more on the pricey side. You can buy individual YSTR items as well, but again, they tend to be expensive items. I think having an item or two from YSTR is more than enough if you like to splurge on more expensive things every now and again.

Now that I’ve shared some of my favorite conscious brands, let’s get to the good stuff. As I said previously, I’ve been putting together capsules for the seasons (spring, summer, winter and fall), and I thought I’d share with you guys some staples you might want to have! These are clothing items that are timeless and will stay in fashion for a while, so you don’t need to worry about buying something new every season.

These are also general guidelines I like to follow, so if you don’t want to buy these items exactly, I’d say go check out your local thrift store to find a good deal! The “Minimalist Guidelines” that I like to follow are:

Solid colors, simple patterns (no busy patterns, logos, etc.,)
