first up on not filtering myself i want to talk about how much i adore how the nations have gone from relative anonymity in the public eye to canonically being used as primary sources by historians and caught by paparazzi press conferences asking about their opinions of each other (which is insane and i love it). i remember a particular segment in which a couple, presumably from the early 20th century iirc, talks about france in particular and the loneliness of immortality, with the couple eventually coming to the conclusion that a mortal life with one another is far better than a long life lived alone (or so they think, the human perception of nationhood is probably very warped because it’s mostly incomprehensible). the only reason they knew of him was because that dude’s ancestors had known about a man that didn’t age, but it wasn’t a “big deal” or a headliner or whatever. it just came and went, life goes on. or maybe nationhood used to be such a bizarre old wives tale that some thought it was horseshit. unless you were high ranking military you may not have ever met one and known it anyway.

it must be really weird to have gone from being akin to a cryptid, hiding in plain sight and constantly renewing official documents and such just so they can go to the liquor store or whatever to being celebrities, sometimes even chased by groups of people for photos and opinions. this is why i really like the relatively new in-canon nation memes on here, they’re so real lol. i think there might be a great deal of corruption in the way people perceive them too which i won’t discuss past scraping the surface.

i just think it’s hilarious to think of modern day alt right nimrods using nations to satisfy their weird insecurities and patriotism, as if they are representational of every weird ass traditional belief about masculinity or race or sexuality you can think of but in reality their fav is a total homo and a humanitarian and the exact opposite embodiment of their own morals in nearly every way. i know nations are technically representational of all citizens good and bad, but that’s too much for me to conceive of right now. we know alfred was about as torn between the last presidential election as americans were perceived to be (any incidents of the hot topic of voter fraud aside), so i’m certainly not trying to paint them all as perfect “blorbos” who can do no wrong and are only representational of my own beliefs or whatever. it goes without saying that the vast majority of them could be considered some type of war criminal. but i also think that’s why their modern day existence is really interesting.

without going too into it, and despite the many shortcomings humans face, most can agree that the world has seen many improvements in recent years, and i think that also represents a shift in the way nations think too. we don’t know exactly how much people influence nations versus how nations influence their people, but i believe it was france who also referred to nations as the vessel and citizens as the passengers. they are a nation bound by their people but they’re also a human with a great deal of free will. i’ll stop here though, i know it can get touchy when we fly a bit too close to the parallels of real human experiences and a bunch of fictional immortal idiots. steering clear of any modern world issue that is anything but amusing and light under the context of this series is wise for obvious reasons

back on the subject of the in-universe nation memes, i’ve thought of making art from the perspective of some weirdo that takes really shitty photos of nations in the wild for social media or whatever (nations, they’re just like us kind of shit). i think it’s neat to think of nations having to avoid the public after being able to hide within it for so long

most folks seem to just shrug at their existence, so maybe their now well known status wouldn’t get in the way of most cultural practices. i get the jist that most people seem to think of them as an anomaly and not necessarily related to spirituality in any way, but i could also see a small subset of pagan folks maybe deifying certain nations too (kemetic, nordic, hellenic, etc.). or maybe it’s a checkmate atheists kind of moment for mortals using nations as proof (or not proof) of god(s) or whatever else. they are practically gods themselves, but i have doubts that most of their superhuman abilities are documented or are anything but rumor and speculation (ie “i hear they can teleport!” and i have an entire ass opinion on that ability in particular) so do most chums think they’re just immortal but with no frills attached? like sure they can come back from the dead but they’re lame and tame tax-paying members of society, or “glorified secretaries” as i once heard someone say. you think government interns froth at the teeth at a chance to work with one just for the anti-aging benefits alone, even at the risk of going a little insane with enough exposure?

i feel like people must constantly pester them about conspiracy theories too. alfred is on hot ones or eric andre getting asked if aliens exist and wtf does he say? he can do whatever the fuck he wants so he’s probably like yeah dude they’re chill lmao and the internet loses their minds. some old crusty nation like england or china gets trapped on a set with philomena cunk for funsies only to be asked about the most inane thing imaginable (several people have made this joke and i really like to think it would happen irl. she got first dibs on those interviews fr)

i think this is also a pretty widely accepted idea but i like to think this all has opened a lot of doors for uh, “nation rights”. like i’ll bet modern day OT and labor laws keep some governments from blurring the lines of overworking someone who isn’t technically or completely human. they’ve probably all got many years of PTO accumulated by now. more world peace relative to the past allows many nations to freely live with those who they want and when they want instead of being forced to live with another due to politics (which may be less common in the modern age, i wonder). sweden adopting ladonia and sealand is another example of a more normal nation life one could hope to live. this shit keeps me up at night but you literally cannot convince anyone that you’re not insane if you tell them this is why you love this series

coming back/moving blogs

hey, been a while, hasn't it? i hope you're all doing well! this is my official coming-back-to-tumblr post, but it's a little different than i had originally planned.

i've decided it would be in my best interests to move blogs after a bit of thinking. i feel like coming back here would just feel too awkward for both me and you guys, especially with my now deleted drama post. i just wanna move on from all this bullshit, especially since i've had do deal with a lot of other shit, including college.

it's still @/evrydaygets-darkr, just moved to a different account. i still like the name, so i'm keeping it for now. this account will still be up for archival purposes, but it will never be active again. i hope you understand. (EDIT: changed to @henriiiii-1001 bc of shit that happened w ak recently. see this for more info and this for my official statement on it)

as a general life update, i'm done with my first semester of college!! it's been kinda fun so far! i've made a couple friends here and there, and classes (except for math) were super cool!!! i loved most of my professors, and i am honestly excited for the upcoming semester! ive been artblocked to hell and back though, so i don't have much in terms of new art or writing, but i've been trying my best to get out of it. i also gained a new hyperfixation, which is project sekai: colorful stage (abbreviated as pjsk), so i'll probably be posting abt that quite a bit (btw my fav group is wxs and my fav character is tsukasa :3 ), specifically abt stats and achievements w like song completions, maybe some pulls too!

im also gonna put a few updates on aus and oc stories rq:

for my tmc aus: the big ones i'm working on are getting new masterposts and infodumps for the new blog. i would rb posts from this blog to the new one, but due to some personal stuff i don't feel very comfortable doing that. i havent been able to cook much lore-wise for any of them, but i'll probably get back into the swing of things once i start interacting w you guys again. - for specifically father's duty: i'll hopefully have chapter 3 done soon. it's actually been almost done for a while now, i just need to think of the ending. thank you to those who've stuck with me this far <3 (EDIT: all my tmc aus are discontinued. read above for more info)

for murder files: i'm gonna change up the pacing a bit because i feel like i was going a bit too fast with it. i wanna take my time with it and make it feel as real as possible. it might take me a bit to get fully set up bc im probably gonna have to plan a few steps ahead, which i've barely done. i just need time to plan everything out and draw some shit

i will try to post as often as i can to get back into using tumblr like a true tumblrina (even though i see theyve made some more disgusting changes so yay </3 ), though it'll probably take some getting used to.

i really missed you guys. i'll see you on the flipside.

(Some of these might not have official EN translations since any physical manga I read are JP copies. I guess if any sound interesting, ask publishers to license them!)

I won’t get too much into what they’re about because I think finding out is part of the fun. I’ll mostly list the genres and a little blurb. Some of these I feel like I rarely hear anyone talk about so it would be cool to see people try these :)

The manga is from the 80’s-90’s but the anime updated it in 2018.

Without giving too much away, it takes place in NY where our characters are trying to break out of the vicious cycle of violence and figure out a mystery that’s also connected to a conspiracy. Lovable cast, keeps you on the edge of your seat. I’m obsessed.

A short story where high schoolers are just trying to figure life out. Yoshida-sensei has this way of writing human stories and melancholy/tragedy while still leaving a glimmer of hope.

I watched S1 ages ago but never got to the rest until recently. Recently picked up the manga and plan to read it eventually. Another top fav of all time. Amazing atmosphere. We see the daily life of mushi expert Ginko deal with mysterious phenomenon mushi cause.

This series is super cute, wholesome, and hilarious! Yotsuba is honestly a delight, and following her daily life as she befriends her new neighbors is just a good time. Yet another fav of all time.

idk how I slept on this for so long since it seems like something right up my alley. Literally picked up a lot of all the 39 currently out volumes (it came with the light novel too), no questions asked. I’m only a few volumes in, but I’m enjoying it a lot. It’s giving me Ertugrul vibes (the historical Turkish drama). No, I won’t expand on that point, go watch Ertugrul!

Our mc is reincarnated into a medieval fantasy world where access to books is limited, making it her personal hell. But don’t worry, she gonna do something about it! This series is so interesting and I love the character dynamics. Even if isekai aren’t your thing, try this!

It has an anime but I heard fans were really mad at the adaption. I haven’t seen it so I can’t comment.

Normally not the kind of thing I would go for, but this series has me constantly screaming. IT’S SO MESSY, but the good kind of messy. It takes every fiber in my body to contain myself when reading in public. It features an mc who was born intersex and a battle for the crown of England.

While Fujimoto-sensei’s more well known work wasn’t 100% clicking with me, I tried his one shots and really enjoyed them. I particularly liked the cinematic feeling and environmental story telling.

Thomas Hewitt, Bubba Sawyer, and Jason Voorhees with an Axe wielding S/O 🪓

Thomas Hewitt 🤎

First of all, and this goes without saying, all of these slashers will express some level of concern with their s/o wielding any type of weapon.

For Tommy, he would be in the middle of the three.

Not super concerned, but enough to be worried you’d accidentally hurt yourself.

Even if his S/O was extraordinarily skilled at throwing an ax, he would still be scared for their safety.

But don't get me wrong, he would be amazed at your skill.

It would be a hot texas afternoon when he saw you first show your skill.

The both of you had gone out to collect some wood for Luda Mae's wood stove and you decided to tag along with Tommy and offered to carry the chopping axe he would use for splitting the larger trunks after he cut them down with his chainsaw.

He would be a bit wary of you holding the axe but wouldn’t 'voice' his concerns. Only watched you to make sure nothing happened.

He'd be a bit confused when he caught sight of you inspecting the axe, turning it over, and checking how heavy it was. He'd be even more surprised when you'd comment how "It's got a nice weight" and "it might need to be sharpened soon"

But what really caught him off guard? When the both of you sat down under a small shade to rest after having pilled up all the wood, you pointed at an annoyingly noisy cicada that was on a tree trunk a few feet in front of your spot on the ground and told him "I bet I can hit it from here"

He'd given a rumbly chuckle and motioned you to go ahead and try.

But instead of throwing a rock like he thought you would, you reached for the axe next to him and threw it at the tree, sticking the axe on your target and making the cicada past tense 🧍🏻‍♀️

He'd sit stunned for a few seconds before snapping out of it when he'd see you cheering and saying how you still "got it".

If you expressed enough interest, he would go as far as to make your own small throwing range and make targets out of wood slabs. (Using his own chainsaw-wielding skills for something else)

He'd also go out of his way to find an axe fit for his S/O's liking.

Also, it would bring him a bit piece of mind knowing that they’re equipped to defend themselves in case a 'trespasser' attacks them.

And such was demonstrated when one tried to escape and his s/o used their axe to stop him. Yea, let's just say he stopped in his tracks to lay face down and closely check out the grass 👀

Best be assured Hoyt will ask you to help 'deal' with trespassers more often after that.

Overall, Tommy would support his s/o's love for axe throwing ❤️

Bubba Sawyer🧡

This big sweetheart would be the least concerned out of the slashers.

He'd be pretty chill about his s/o having a gift in the ax-throwing arts.

He'd be the most amazed as well.

Quite frankly, he'd be more concerned for the safety of his brothers

Why you may ask?

Well because the first time he saw his S/O's great skill was during a quite rowdy family dinner.

It all began when Nubbins thought it was a good time for show and tell, and emptied out his never-ending sack/bag of trinkets right on the table. Various items spilled out and some even fell off the table. But the most noticeable? A mother freaking hatchet.

"Where the damn hell did ya' get that?!" Drayton would ask.

Nubbins would then inform you all how he got it from some guy who was 'passing by' and was now unalive outside the property.

This was new information for the rest of the household.

The older Sawyer would rise in anger and begin yelling at his brothers, including Bubba, about how they failed to inform him of this and even began to get physical by throwing food at them.

But you being you, were quick to defend your hubby and state how he also didn’t know. Thus creating more chaos during dinner.

One thing leads to another, and before Drayton could hit Bubba with his stick, you reach for the hatchet on the table and aim at the piece of wood in his hand and throw it. Successfully cutting it in half, just above his fingers.

The brothers would all freeze and then slowly turn in sync to look at the axe stuck in the wall and then back at your fuming figure.

Drayton would stare at his intact hand like👁👄👁

He would then calm down and Bubba would just stare at you in awe. Happy that you'd stand up for him but also astounded at your aim.

Since then, it wasn’t uncommon to see you walk around with the hatchet in a makeshift holster at your side.

The oldest Sawyers would be more careful with what they say to your dear Bubba when you're around, in fear of angering you and earning themselves an ax to the face.

Bubba would frequently point at random objects or spots and ask for you to throw the axe and hit them. Sometimes as a way to playfully 'test' your aim.

He would celebrate your bullseyes with you and would even carry you and spin you around. So cute.

You would also accompany him more often to deal with the 'passerby’s'

If you offered to teach him or even play a small game he would be a bit hesitant at first, scared that he would end up hurting you.

But would then ease in after much reassurance.

In conclusion, Bubba would even go as far as to encourage his s/o's love for axe throwing ❤️

Jason Voorhees 💛

Now this man,

THIS Man would be the most concerned out of the three.

In the beginning, he wouldn’t even let his s/o near any of his own weapons in fear that they might get hurt.

if he could, I bet he would go as far as to baby-proof the whole cabin. THE WOODS!

So how does his S/O achieve using their skill?

After countless of begging and nagging of course.

You'd have to convince this man and reassure him that you won't get hurt.

This would take months 🧍🏻‍♀️

But eventually, he would break.

At first, you'd have to agree to only use an axe under his supervision.

Surprisingly, he would let you choose any of the many types of axes he has in storage,'left behind' by campers 👁, as long as it wasn’t to heavy or something, you didn’t pay attention to what he was signing because you were to busy checking out all the cool axes.

You chose a dope ass tomahawk

There would be a designated throwing range/area for you designed and approved by him.

He would mark targets on trees and hang objects for you to hit.

He would also make you wear gear that campers 'left behind'👁

Gloves,steel-toed boots, and even a climbing helmet wtf

But you'd go along with it as long as you got to throw a darn axe

When you finally, FINALLY, get to throw an axe, he's sweating bullets and all worried.

But you throw that thing like there's no tomorrow and hit the furthest away target dead in the center.

He just stands there like 🧍🏻‍♀️

After a couple of throws and bullseyes, he becomes a bit less worried, JUST A BIT. He still all mother hen on ya.

After a while, he would let up and let you throw without having on more protection that the pope's security team.

Aaaaand eventually without him watching over you like a hawk.

But what really loosens him up was when you'd use your skill on a trespassing camper.

One had been tougher than expected and fought back, bodyslamming into Jason and gaining the upper hand.

The camper was about to stab Jason with his own machete,

but dearest oh dearest,

you chopped that mofos hand (unlike with Drayton) with one clean throw before he could hurt your man.

The stunned silence that came out of our Jason was louder than his usual silence.

After that whole situation, Jason allowed you to join him as a 'scout' to deal with campers.

He's still all panicky about it but learns to trust you and your skill.

With all that being said, Jason would learn to accept his s/o's love for axe throwing ❤️

oOoooOOooo happy halloween!!!! there was a lot of rlly cool stuff that dropped this month. namely the new Sufjan Stevens and Sampha albums. both instantly became some of my favs of the year so far. especiallyyyy Sufjan.

‧₊˚✧ BEST SONG OF THE MONTH ✧˚₊‧ "Shit Talk" - Sufjan Stevens

The new Sufjan Stevens album has a hold on me that no other album this year has. If I was bolder every entry on this month's list would be from it, but I have decided to trim it down to just one. "Shit Talk" is one of the best songs Sufjan has ever made. Its over 8 minutes long and everything about it just feels so ... cathartic. I'll probably dig into the lyrics and stuff when this album shows up on my year-end list, but god this song destroys me. Please give this album a listen.

"Tantor" - Danny Brown

◇ featured on Quaranta - Danny Brown (not yet released) ◇ genres: hardcore hip hop, experimental hip hop

Danny Brown's long awaited Quaranta album is finally official. This lead single is, in my opinion, a return to form for the rapper. It has the frenetic energy of his best work with some interesting production throughout. Very great lead single for the record and I'm excited to hear more. My only complaint are the weird samples at the end. This song could definitely do without Star Wars and The Office soundbites.

"Space Race" - Geese

◇ featured on 4D Country - Geese ◇ genres: art rock, southern rock

Geese released a little followup EP to their phenomenal last album 3D Country and the material on it is on par with the album's tracks. This track is a great showcase of all of their strong points. Wacky, southern rock twinged instrumentation paired with unique vocals that make for a very unique experience. I highly recommend listening to the album as well as this EP. Amazing stuff.

"What If You Hypnotise Me?" - Sampha

◇ featured on Lahai - Sampha ◇ genre: uk bass, alternative r&b

As is expected, Sampha's long awaited sophomore album is filled to the brim with gorgeous songs. My love for the album grows the more I listen to it. This track is especially captivating. The ascending piano mixed with Sampha's incredible vocals leading into the great feature from Léa Sen. Oooh, this song is just amazing.

"We Looked Like Giants" - Car Seat Headrest

◇ genre: indie rock

Car Seat Headrest redeem themselves by finally releasing a good cover after their abysmal covers EP from a few years ago. Their rendition of the Death Cab for Cutie original is pretty straightforward, but very enjoyable. This is the most cohesive the band has sounded in a long time. With a new live album on the way in December, it looks like they're ramping up for a followup and, if this track is any indication of whats next, I'm very excited.

"Shame on Us" - Robbie Robertson

◇ featured on Killers of the Flower Moon - Robbie Robertson ◇ genre: film score

One of Robbie Robertson's biggest achievements, alongside his work with The Band and Bob Dylan, were his frequent collaborations with Martin Scorsese. This final collaboration might be the strongest of them yet. The soundtrack is so rich with detail. Robertson had dabbled in Native American music before and you can tell he put it all into this soundtrack. This cut was my favorite, but I highly recommend going and seeing the film itself. It is an incredible experience and Robertson's soundtrack is used incredibly well. He will be very missed.

"Hell" - Sleater-Kinney

◇ featured on Little Rope - Sleater-Kinney (not yet released) ◇ genre: indie rock

Admittedly, I haven't listened to Sleater-Kinney's recent output yet. I'm only familiar with their work up to 2005's The Woods. I was apprehensive about this new single at first. The opening felt very bland and just like a lot of standard indie rock nowadays. I quickly forgave all that once that classic Sleater-Kinney burst of noise came in on the chorus.

Do you happen to have more recommendations? My WEBTOONs reads are a bit empty since the ones I’ve finished are done/cancelled etc. doesn’t even matter the type.

I'M SO SORRY i saved this to my drafts because I had written a long thing and tumblr deleted it so i needed to rewrite it... and then I forgot about it... IM SO SORRY!!!! I actually don't have a whole lot of webtoon recs bc I haven't read that many, and only would rec a few from the ones I have read, but I will gladly share some that I've enjoyed/am enjoying!!!!

No Home (집이 없어) there is no official tl but it's being scanlated on other sites (by whatafruit)!! This is... quite possibly one of the best things ive ever read... it's a drama about high school kids and their home problems/traumas... please read it the writing and characterization is SO good and nuanced, the storytelling and pacing is masterful, the characters are so loveable yet so realistically flawed and show their ugly human sides... PLUS THE ARTSTYLE IS SOO CUTE AND IT'S FUNNY.... 100/10 best webtoon (I actually need to catch up TT I know it'll make me CRY so ive been putting it off...)

"When the Day Comes": this is a slice of life/school romance one... but even if you don't like slice of life pls give this one a chance i promise u it is so good u wont regret it... the writing and characterization is realistic and nuanced and the characters are all so loveable... plus the art is GORGEOUS... and there was unexpected LGBT rep that made me so happy TT I love omyo's writing... and if you enjoy this one pls also check out "the stories of those around me" if u want to see more of the author's work!! that was one of my first webtoons and I still love it..

I already rec'd Lee Yeon's work but in case anyone didn't see... pls read "The Makeup Remover"!!!! that's one of my recent all time favs... and I'm also enjoying "Surviving Romance" by this author which is still ongoing! It's a zombie horror/thriller (but it's not too gorey!! i hate gore and it's rly mild/mostly censored... i love lee yeon's art style and chara designs its a big insp) I admit i didn't like SR's writing as much as TMR but it's still a really fun read (esp binging) and the pacing is really engaging... (ALSO DONT JUDGE LEE YEON'S WORK BY THE THUMBNAIL IT'S REALLY MISLEADING LOL....)

and currently I'm enjoying "Rewriting our love story" on webtoon... there's only 8 eps translated on webtoon so i cant for SURE say how good it is lol but so far im pleasantly surprised? like its rly good for a "het romance" webtoon... and the art is cute! so if u dont mind het romance join me in waiting for updates lol

4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw

I don't know that I have a simple answer??? for this???? I find a lot of little things difficult for a lot of characters/subjects. I've been using different zine projects to do different challenges, completely by accident. So I've fought against drawing clutter and mirrors, or perspective in a background, or mechanical things, or animals, and discovering reference use and shortcuts. But even when I'm struggling or in the midst of coloring purgatory, that it's a bitch to draw hasn't dissuaded me.

Those fucking undercut hairstyles for Gladio and Nyx have been frustrating, Sephiroth's bangs have been frustrating, by all rights Shiro's hair shouldn't be a problem because I drew Superboy all the time AND YET.... I don't know, it's always a lot of little things that I'm not aware of until they happen.

9. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in

I'm also not sure about this one. I have a lot of projects I've never completed but I'm always thinking about them, hahaha. I have a pokemon nuzlocke idea that I want to do but am hindered by the necessity of playing Pokemon and my choice for a team rocket replacement is no longer viable. I make thumbnails for many animatics, which while hindered by the fact that I don't know how to make them videos isn't exactly a stopping point. There were plenty of homestuck art posts that were just the mp3 and illustrations posted alongside it. I'd be content to do that if I finished them. I think I've only actually posted one of those and I didn't finish the thumbnails, hahaha.

Most of my old project ideas that I've officially abandoned are probably fandoms I've likewise abandoned (superwholock, for example). But I never actually forget things, I grew attachment to them while I was working on them. ^^;;;

29. Media you love, but doesn't inspire you artistically

Oh I've got a few of those. I don't know if I would say I love them, exactly, but I never felt the drive to make Umbrella Academy fanart, or Eureka Seven fanart. I enjoyed watching both of those but they didn't grab me in the fanart way. Maybe also Back to the Future, but my dad insisted I draw something I like from the movies once as a teaching lesson so that might be a little handicapped as a result.

Surprisingly, so far I also haven't drawn Hades fanart. But that's intimidating.

Nonfiction

“Come as you are” by Emily Nagoski (about sex and the female anatomy; super interesting, well written and with a few worksheets. I really love it because it’s not only educational, but so reassuring, especially if you grew up with little to bo or just really bad sex education and tend to feel like something is “wrong” with you, or if you wonder whether you and your experiences are normal.)

“A woman looking at men looking at women: Essays on art, sex and the mind” by Siri Hustvedt (a collection of essays about a variety of topics, all of them really informative and I love the way she writes! Siri Hustvedt is one of my favorite authors and role models; she’s incredibly intelligent and well-educated, knows so much about topics she has no official major in, which I think is really cool. I have a few other books by her at home that I haven’t read yet, but this one is really good and I highly recommend it, especially if you’re into art, feminism and psychology!)

“Letter to the father” by Franz Kafka (pretty sad, but it really helps you understand the issues that he had with his father, and even if you’re not into Kafka’s stories, it’s worth reading, since he was a good writer and a very interesting person.)

Fiction

“Pachinko” by Min Jin Lee (multi-generational saga that unfolds from the early 20th century to the 1980s, following a Korean family in Japan as they navigate love, discrimination, and the challenges of life in a foreign land. Really moving and kept me hooked until the last page.)

“Convenience store woman” by Sayaka Murata (one of my comfort books; less than 200 pages. Follows the life of a socially unconventional woman in contemporary Japan, as she navigates societal expectations and finds solace in her job at a convenience store. It’s not officially stated in the book, but can be interpreted as a story about autism.)

“Breasts and eggs” by Mieko Kawakami (she’s my queen and this book is so *chef’s kiss*. An asexual semi-successful writer wants to have a child, but seeks no romantic or sexual relationship; explores the complexities of womanhood through the perspectives of three women—the protagonist, her sister and niece—in contemporary Japan, delving into themes of identity, societal expectations, and the choices women make regarding motherhood.)

“Heaven” by Mieko Kawakami (I love her and her writing style so much, as well as the topics her books are about!! Heaven is about the developing friendship between two teenagers, their struggles with societal expectations, bullying, and the quest for identity. This is pretty intense and violent in a few scenes, and the bullying in the story is just cruel, much worse than I anticipated. I had to pause and put the book away to cry a few times, but I still liked it.)

“Notes from underground”, “White nights”, “Crime and punishment” and “The brothers Karamazov” by Fyodor M. Dostoyevsky (Listen. Reading Dostoy might require lots of patience, and sometimes you just sit there reading six pages of someone ranting about their life in font size five and you’re just confused, but!! The plots are *mwah!* and I love his characters! They’re likable, even if they’re assholes, they’re interesting, his unique style is one of my favorites, the books are surprisingly funny and every few pages Dostoy drops the most poetic, beautiful, touching, moving-to-tears line of the century before he moves on with the plot as if nothing happened?! As if I didn’t just sob and snort into a tissue?! Sir?! And please, for the love of good, read the foreword if there is one!

Poetry

“Selected poems” by Rainer Maria Rilke (I haven’t read that much poetry so far, I usually read more novels, but Rilke’s poetry is so, so beautiful! Neither boring and dry nor sappy and cringy. Sensitive men in love, wahoooooo!!)

My Kylux Recs in the last year (Aug, 20 2020 - Aug 20 2021)

SO. MUCH. GOOD. FIC!!! We are really lucky in this fandom to have so much good stuff to read!

Fic is part of the lifeblood of fandom, in my opinion-it shares new ideas and AUs and fleshes out the characters and most of all it inspires and entertains us all and engenders all sorts of feels for the characters-it’s part of what keeps us shipping! So a big ‘thank you’ to all the fic authors out there who work so hard at their craft and are generous enough to share it with all of us!

The following list is by no means comprehensive-there are LOTS and lots more very good fics that have been published in the last year that I haven’t read. I just wanted to offer up a few recs from what I know I enjoyed so far! (I also have more than fits on one list to rec-I’ll try and do another list soon!) My thoughts on the rec: This is another really cute young modern AU! I like the idea that Ren has liked Hux forever, but this deals nicely with the age gap and that Hux really wouldn’t notice Ren back until they are both appropriately older. And they make such a cute couple-it’s a great progression from just ‘he’s hot’-like, there is a lot more to them than that in the end!

My thoughts on the rec: One of my all-around fav fics from the last year’s worth of my reading material! It’s got the modern AU vibes down pat without losing their personalities or making them too OOC, it’s got the fake-dating trope done REALLY well, it’s got a wonderful creepy vibe strung delicately throughout for the Halloween haunted setting, it’s got plot and make-outs (and more). Can’t recommend highly enough!

My thoughts on the rec: Oh goodness, where to start? The Irish Mythology and Fae aspect of this fic is superbly woven throughout the whole thing and the author makes it work really well! Like, this is such a unique and original take on the kylux pair, I love them, especially Fae!Hux in this! And the plot is solid and you get invested really heavily in how they are gonna wind up-at least I did! There’s some beautiful language in this-descriptions and dialogue! And I have a soft spot for Artist!Kylo!

My thoughts on the rec: I feel like this is a very original take on ‘Senator Amidala’ Ben, at least from the stuff I’ve read-many props to the author for such a fleshed out universe, filled with likeable, believable OCs, a wonderful plot, great character motivations and voices, and a take on our main man Ben that pulled me in from the get-go! He’s sorta magnetic (in universe and to the reader)! And the sexual tension and sexy bits are very well done! I’m rooting for Ben and Hux in this, on opposites sides though they may be! Comfort Zone

My thoughts on the rec: This one is EPIC! Like, in length (which it needs every word of for the story that is going on here) and in the great portrayal of Kylo and Hux and their relationship! It’s super original too-not just the plot but the depiction of Kylo as something ‘other’ and the Southern Gothic vibes, and Hux-this is a wonderful take on Hux! He loses none of his edge, in my opinion and yet the reader is ‘with’ him all the way through, rooting for him! The descriptions are killer too-EmperorsVornskr has a felicity of expression that kept me reading (albeit in more than one sitting). Also worth noting that this is a wonderful and carefully handled depiction of trans!Hux, in my admittedly cis opinion. The theme of finding your tribe/your people/and your special someone in this, albeit in sometimes unexpected places is warming! I enjoyed every moment of this fic! Gravity Well

My thoughts on the rec: I realize this one is very well known by now, but I’ll rec it again for good reason! It’s quality long-fic! I love how competent Hux is in this surival-style fic, even without the Force to save him! And Kylo is a badass! kyluxtrashcompactor is a master of the slow burn here and we’re even lucky enough to be getting a sequel (although Gravity Well will also stand perfectly on its own). The writing in this will draw you in and not let you go!

two women on missions who need a confidante.

Mina is a calculating woman of science with a tender, vulnerable heart deep down that she guards. Day is a fun, giggly love goddess but beneath the surface she is just as calculating.

They are both focused on their prospective goals to the point of subterfuge.

They have similar missions, to solve the many mysteries of Mayview, but they’re at odds instead of working together. Will these lone wolves learn to let their walls down and work towards a common goal?

Their spectral energies are complementary colors!!!!!!!!!!!!

9/10 so different yet so alike. They should kiss and also develop as people.

The cousinhood and the consortium seem to have bad blood…. Enemies to lovers????

As teachers, Garcia is tired and phoning it in while spender is energetic and committed. But when it comes to mystery solving Spender is burning himself out while Garcia keeps him grounded.

Garcia does things like pack spender lunches with little hearts drawn on the bag but was surprised to be called his boyfriend. He acts chill but inside he is deeply invested in spender but also knows about spender’s isolating tendencies.

8/10 there's a reason these two have been off and on again for 6ish years, they’re walking a tightrope of vulnerability.

Imaax (submitted by Rubyya)

The Destiel of Paranatural. No I will not elaborate.

Here’s a pnat history lesson, the original ship name was Maxaac, but Zack weighed in on twitter with a much better alternative: Imaax. Also sometimes called Team Lightning Rod.

Black and blue colors, just like the emotional bruises they leave on the people around them.

Isaac wants to be seen as heroic and Max wants to be seen as aloof. It presents in different ways but deep down they both really care what other people think.

They both fear sincerity. Isaac protects himself with theatrics and Max with sarcasm.

Isaac puts on a big show of having strong ethics but he’s a little mean on instinct. Max puts on a big show of cutting people down with his snark and devil-may-care attitude, but when push comes to shove he’s kind and cares how other people feel.

Max immediately insults every person he meets and they still want to be best friends with him, while Issac tries so hard to be cool and nice but people just can’t stand him.

The meta tension between Isaac, who wants so badly to be the protagonist, and Max “magnetic personally” Puckett who is exhausted with being the protagonist, is delicious.

There’s a reason official art tends to portray them together. They bring out the best in each other. Isaac brakes through Max’s performative pessimism and Max brings Isaac down to earth.

10/10 these two were written as a pair and it shows.

Suzabel (submitted by Rubyya)

One of my fav tropes is ‘enemies to friends’ where the enemy part is completely one-sided. Isabel probably thinks she and Suzy get along great.

Both the heads of their respective clubs, but with very different leadership styles.

Isabel only studies her grandfather's spectral style to please him and is a near master of it, while Suzy is incredibly self-motivated even though her actual skills are lacking.

Isabel is at a crucial time in her life where she’s learning to distance herself from adult authority figures in order to take on more personal responsibility. Suzy is already blazing with independence and could help her adjust.

Inversely, Isabel could teach Suzy a thing or two about treating your club members with respect and doing the emotional labor necessary to prevent future conflict.

Red and pink! Valentines colors!

Isabel could kill you but would never, Suzy would actually try to kill you.

Investigative reporter/person living mysterious double life is a great dynamic.

Back when Izzy had Eightfold they had the ship name ‘Paper Girls’ which is awesome

7/10 Don’t ask me how I know this but they would kill at karaoke together. And they’re ok foils.

Bullymagnet

Max ‘too cool for clubs’ vs a boy who defines himself by his tight knit group.

Max is learning to be less passive aggressive and johnny is learning to be less aggressive aggressive.

Max’s entry to spectral life was when he injured Johnny and saw a shade of a doctopi on him, and Johnny's first shade was Max's doctopi after the hit ball game.

Johnny refuses to commit to not bullying max anymore even though he really likes him, and max is working on being nicer but he’s still gonna be snarky with people even though they’re his friends. Old habits die hard.

If he hadn't seen that shade, Max might have joined Johnny's gang. He has the style, the stunts, the snark.

8/10 Just two bros whose lives are changing forever.

Here’s my pitch for a ship name: Brainstorm

Orange and blue are complementary colors.

Isaac hurt Dimitri accidentally somehow. Hurting others accidentally is the central theme of chapter 5.

Idealist/pragmatist is a classic dynamic

They both have relationships with their spirit partners that are rooted in fear.

Dimitri’s self concept is overly dependent on his sense of intellectual superiority, and Isaac’s on ethical superiority.

7/10 have not directly interacted in the comic yet but the narrative symmetry is there

Burnhound Vs Shockadile

These two are natural leaders who know how to treat their friends with respect.

These jocks are both lethal weapons, but while Isabel is a master martial artist, Johnny is a passionate but blunt instrument.

They’re both going through similar identity crises.

Isabel is struggling to reconcile her violent and disciplined upbringing with a good, gentle heart and Johnny is trying to reconcile his violent and self-centered lifestyle with a developing respect and empathy for other people.

Johnny dies his hair red, so he would think it’s cool how Izzy emits a fiery red aura when excited.

8/10 there's a reason these two were the team leaders in the hit ball arch.

Violet and Lisa (submitted by Rubyya)

People have been theorizing about what kind of cryptid Lisa is since day one meanwhile Violet gives off big normie energy.

Lisa is very plugged into all the Mayview weirdness as the queen of the school underground, while Violet was the only person who thought to go get a teacher during the hit ball arch. Lisa was also the only one who really spoke openly about how something was clearly very wrong with Jeff, everyone else talked around it and played by the so called ‘rules’. Lisa’s secret brokering Vs. Violet’s ‘sunlight is the best disinfectant’ attitude presents two different approaches to trying to survive in a school run by a mysterious shadow organization within a town that contains several other mysterious shadow organizations.

“If you were, I’d have to be jealous too.” just two middle schoolers pinning over their crushes.

7/10 two girls against the world.

Isaac and Johnny

ship name: Firestorm?

Just 2 fiery redheaded mediums with anger management issues that command primal forces and wanna be best friends with max

Johnny chooses to have red spiky hair, Issac has had red spiky hair thrust upon him.

Both met Maxwell Pucket and decided they needed to change for the better.

I’ve said this before but Johnny and Issac have equal and opposite philosophies. Johnny doesn't care about the greater good, he just cares about a small group of people who he loves. Issac cares about the greater good, but can’t connect with individuals and ends up hurting them. Together they form one GoodTM boy.

Both their spirit partners want revenge on Spender. This spells trouble.

If there’s anyone to teach Isaac about unconditional friendship, it’s Johnny

Isaac has sworn off violence and Johnny worships at the altar of it.

9/10 they’ve only interacted in canon once so far but I’ve think we’ve got a big storm coming.

Suzy and Collin (submitted by Rubyya)

The Bakudeku of pnat. I will continue to not elaborate.

Suzy once stole Collin's phone which prompted Collin to try to cut her hair which prompted Suzy to stab Collin and at no point did either of them think to move to a different bus seat. As different as they are they are also very much the same.

Collin is the definition of mouth service (constantly disapproving of suzy’s antics but going along with it anyway.) while suzy is all action.

Despite their different attitudes they both seem genuinely passionate about the journalism club.

Fashion icons. Suzy’s sunglasses and legwarmers, Collins sweater vests and wrist bands, this duo could walk for Paris fashion week: middle school edition.

We’ve gotten an indication that Collin cares a lot about what Suzy thinks of him (taking off his wrist bands when she made fun of Max's) but we haven't gotten any sign yet that the feelings are mutual.

5/10 I think their story is yet to be told and we’ll get to know more about how they compare/contrast to each other in the future. Maybe brought on by Dimitri's betrayal?????

Cody is gay by WOG but that doesn't matter here since we are evaluating thematic compatibility, not romantic compatibility.

Red Vs. Blue

Izzy’s arch about stepping into her role as leader through communication and honesty contrasts Cody’s role as the secret class president. Izzy finally told Isaac the truth about the consortium, while Cody blatantly lied to max about being president.

Both seem to have generally good motivations and the skills/talent to back those motivations up.

Isabel is in the process of unlearning the ‘firm hand’ philosophy that she learned from her grandpa and Cody’s dad straight up tried to mind control him into murdering a toddler.

They were both taught to fall back on their capacity for violence and intimidation but those teachings conflict with the people they really want to be.

6/10 just two kids who are being led astray by authority figures trying to learn to be themselves.

Both beholden to blood thirsty predators

Collin is a journalist, Cody is a vampire/leader of the shadow government. It’s a huge power move on Cody’s part to hang out with Collin.

Cody’s support of his friends is enthusiastic while Collin would have you believe Suzy has kidnapped him.

4/10 they hang out for a reason but those reasons have yet to be fully developed

They’re both people who have learned to put up walls to keep people out. Isabel through violence and intimidation, max through sarcasm and mockery. T

he other side of this is their mutual journey to let their walls down and connect with other people more genuinely, starting with each other.

Their search for acceptance and identity has led them both to become incredible athletes. Spectral fist martial arts = shred eagle stunts

As we saw in the hit ball game, Izzy faces things head on while Max is all about evasion. However we’ve seen how Izzy has actually learned to be evasive and guarded about her feelings while Max is a little more forthcoming.

8/10 Never has there been faster friends.

Drama kings

Isaac wants the likability Cody has.

Parallels of power: Isaac with power he didn't choose and cant control vs. Cody who also didn’t choose to have his power (elected), but wields it like an instrument.

Involuntary anime hair and involuntary glowing monster eyes

These two definitely both fall under the category of “lawful”.

I can see these two ending up on opposite sides of a conflict because they both have such rigid personal codes and an intense sense of duty.

I know I’ve been approaching almost all of these platonically but Isaac probably really wants a cool vampire boyfriend deep down

7/10 Unstoppable force, meet immovable object. You two should watch anime together.

Isaac is Stephen's dream, someone actually living a secret double life, and Stephen is Issac's dream, someone with a cool scar who would think he’s actually very interesting.

5/10 these two are both very intense in their own way.

Two souls lost in the wind

Two people for whom friendship and loyalty is central to their character, and they’re both struggling with personal growth because of it. Johnny is afraid to change because his friends have always liked the person he already is, and Ed is struggling to even define himself outside of Isabel, the person he cares about the most.

Both impulsive and uninhibited.

They both live lives free from expectation. Johnny’s wild bully persona means no one is surprised by his antics or cruelty, while Grandpa Guerra doesn't really care if Ed takes up phantom fist like Isabel. He actually calls him a freeloader. Not having much expected of you can feel free but it’s also lonely and can warp your self-perception.

6/10 these two crossed paths at exactly the right time.

I didn't cover every submission because even though only 9 people submitted you sent in 34 ships between you. Pnat’s fanbase is small but very dedicated.

Genshin Impact Visions & Gods

This has been bugging me since i started playing in mid november, but what makes a certain Archon give a Character their Vision. Considering i couldnt find any official info, I decided to do some research on each Archon and then on the player Characters we have of each element as of beginning of December 2020.

This will contain spoilers on characters & story!

Note: The travelers will not be included due to them not having Visions and having more then one Element.

I am basing this on overlaping themes and not on anything related to the actual Archon. I did add some info on the archons tho, due to this being about Visions and archons

“It is unclear whether Visions are directly granted by its element's corresponding Archon or by the nation's Archon. There is also the possibility that granting a Vision requires approval from both Archons. Yet another possibility is that they are granted by neither, and are instead given by the gods on Celestia.”

Starting with my Favourite Element, Electro.

Electro wise, We have five Characters as of right now: Kequin, Razor, Beidou, Fishl and Lisa. The Electro Archon, God of Eternity, Baal, is the ruling Archon of the Area, Inazuma, whitch is the area we are getting in the 1.4 update in 2021.

To start off i read into any info i could find on Baal and i gotta say, she is a interesting Fellow. As of right now we know that Baal has locked Inazuma down and has initiated a Vision Hunt Decree, due to her thinking Visions should be under the sole domain of divinity. She also hasnt handed out any Visions since this decree which means all Electro characters we know have gotten theirs before this drastic change.

Now, why did these 5 characters get their Visions? Well each character has a different reason, from Razor wanting to protect those he calls friends to Lisa simpley saying it would be of use to her and just getting it. From what I've found there isnt really a big overlap in the reciving of the characters, but what is overlaping is their fixation on something.

Razor recived his vision due to him being fixated on getting stronger to protect his friends after he failed to while being dragged away by an abyss mage

Kequin was fixated on sharing her beliefs, that the people of Lyiue shouldnt rely on Rex Lapis and have their Pride and that their views are of Equal importance

Fishl was so fixated on a book series she changed herself to be like the main character, fishl and her Vision manifested in the form of Oz, one of the characters from said book

Beidou was fixated on killing Haishan, a sea monster, from a young age and recived her vision when she did so

Lisa is pretty much fixated on understanding magecraft and the cost of reciveing a Vision.

Now onto a easier Element, Geo

The Archon of Geo and Contracts, Morax, Archon of Lyiue.

Morax or Rex Lapis, was one of the oldest gods, defended Lyiue in the Archon war, the Currency in Teyvat, Mora, is named after him and as of Chp.1 Act 3 we know that he has taken the form of Zhongli and has retired as the Geo Archon.

Morax, Along with Barbatos, are the only two Archons of the Original Seven that havent been replaced.

Now, who are our Geo Characters? Noelle and Ningguang, two dedicated powerhouses! This one is fairly simple, thanks to voicelines we have of Zhongli since he came out as a player character (Bless the pity pull for giving me this man)

In his “About Ningguang” Voiceline he says: ”Despite the multitude of affairs she deals with in a day, Ningguang always continues to press on. A rare gem indeed. I'm reminded of the time that she used to walk barefoot from Yaoguang Shoal to the south wharf, trying to sell her wares as she went. Time is cruel to humans.”

Noelle recived her vision when Jean Acknowledged her hard work when she tried to get into the knights of favonius. in her “Vision” story it states: This was a lucky day that she would always remember, for she would receive recognition from two all-important sources this day: once from Jean, and the other from the gods. Her hard work has been remembered after all.

So for short: Hard working and dedicated = Geo Vision

Next up we have Anemo

Our wonderful Tone deaf bard, Venti or otherwise known as the Archon of Anemo and freedom, Barbatos, the not really ruling Archon of Mondstadt.

Barbatos is a freedom loving guy and refuses to rule over Mondstadt, the city of freedom and is by far the weakest of the Archons, despite this the people of Modstadt still love and adore their windy God.

I went into this one thinking “Oh this is easy, itll be love for freedom or something!” Nope, it surprisingly wasnt. Jean and sucerose recived their visions through their Determination it seems. Sucerose from doing her 159th Dandilion seed Simmering experiment and Jean seemed to be determened to be a good grandmaster and to protect Mondstadt.

That aside, i couldnt find many overlaps with the two, they are both free spirited and love what they do.

Now on to Pyro

Pyro, the Element of the Archon Murata who is also the god of War, is wielded by the fan fav Diluc, as well as Klee, Xiangling, Amber, Bennett and Xinyan.

Not much is known about Murata, Venti describes her as a “ wayward, warmongering wretch” and thats about all we know. She presides over Natlan.

Now to the characters, this was acually the easiest of them all: Passion.

Every Pyro user has a huge amount of passion that a rolemodel or Loved one ignited within them.

This one definitly surprised me the least and i am really excited for when we meet Murata and Natlan.

Diluc has the same passion his father had

Klee has a passion for Explosives that her mother ignited

Xiangling has a passion for food and cooking she got from her father

Amber got her Passion for Mondstadt and the outriders from her grandfather

Bennett got the Passion for adventure from all the old adventurers he calls dads, yes Dads as in plural, that raised him

Xinyan has a passion for Rock, tho i havent found out more of her story due to her being so new.

Now heading onto Hydro

Hydro, along with Dendro, is the only element where we do not know the name of the Archon. All we do know is that they are the Archon of Hydro and Justice and rule over Fontaine.

So straight to the Hydro characters: Barbara, Mona and Xingqiu.

I dont really count Childe due to the only thing talked about is his dilusion and i am rather confused on if he even has a real vision but i still love him lots

Im going to be honest this one really had me running the brain gears for a while.

All three recived their Vision as an extension of the self.

Barbara got hers after helping a sick boy by singing to him to help him sleep through a fever, Mona rekindeled a learning aid to her vision, to aid her with her search for the truth of the rules of the world and Xingqiu got his after he explained the principles of his clans martial arts anew, litterally saying that martial artists should see Visions as a extension of the self.

Last but definitly not least, Cryo

Cryo, the Element of the Archon know as the Tsaritsa. We acually dont know her corrisponding ideal nor her acual name and this one was just as geargrinding as Hydro.

The Tsaritsa, Ruler of the fatui and the one that gives them their Dilusions, is one interresting lady. We get a description of her from Childe: “Her Royal Highness the Tsaritsa is actually a gentle soul. Too gentle, in fact, and that's why she had to harden herself. Likewise, she declared war against the whole world only because she dreams of peace. Her gaze was cold but pure, arrogant yet sharp. She was not only the sacrosanct Cryo Archon but a true warrior also.”

Kaeya, Chongyun, Diona and Qiqi, our current four Cyro userer, all have rather interesting storys when it comes to how they got their Vision.

All dont accept something

Kaeya felt guilty about hiding who he was from the family that adopted him after his father abandoned him to be a spy in Mondstadt, and told Diluc, someone he used to be very close with, the truth, since then he sees his vision as a stern reminder that he must live his life under a heavy burden of Lies. He pretty much doesnt accept the truth of his situatin and would rather live with that heavy burden

Chonyun is surpressing a part of himself, the condition he has, and as Xiangling says in Chongyuns stories, is denying a part of him. He trys to work around his condition and wont accept it as the way to go about how he practices exocrism.

Diona wont accept the truth about her father being a Alcoholic, and places the blame on the Alcohol industy instead of accepting that he isnt as high and mighty as she thought. She wont accept that her fathers bad control over his drinking habits is the reason he acts as he does and instead blames the alcohol industry.

Qiqi didnt want to accept her death nor does she really accept her Zombie like traits and only uses them when she needs to defend herself.

My theory is the Cyro Visions are recevied when you wont accept the grim reality as it is, if this is positive or negative variates

When it comes to the last element, Dendro, we sadly know nothing nor have we seen any dendro character in action. So that might be a addition later on.

I’m really interrested if we find out the actual criteria for reciving each Vision one day

FEH - Finally got the first merge on Hoshidan Summer Micaiah + appreciation post

With [Hall of Forms] now finished and all the rewards obtained, I can now rest at ease forgetting it, so I went to [Forging Bonds] and just got the last [Divine Codes: Ephemera 8] to give Micaiah her well earned merge, and here it is, her RES bane is no more.

While I don't see her often in [AR-D], I've come to understand why she's a good option here: she fills a very unique niche as a refresher with min-maxed attack and resistance that deals effective damage on armored and cavalry units, she aged really well as a unit despite her having one of the lowest BST values of her class but her refine will eventually come out and make her outstanding, I'll wait for it before I invest too much in her.

Anyway, this is not what I appreciate Micaiah, so I'll tell you a little story below and sum up my reasons, there'll be minor spoiler warnings and it's a tad too extensive but I hope you'll find it an interesting read if you do look on it.

I've known about her ever since I started to play Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn after I got my black Wii back in 2015 for my birthday and unlocked it to sideload USB games some time after, but it took me a little to feel like trying it and get it running, I used to be a guy that just trained whoever seemed likeable enough from looks so that I could get on, not as attentive with the plot of every game I play as I am now, but I've started to change that around the time I've started Final Fantasy VIII on the second half of 2019, a game that was truly legendary and emotional Imo.

This is more or less how I've come to known her, but I want to share what sparked interest on me for her:

It took me exactly two weeks to realize I wanted her so badly, it helped that when Lilina was announced, I'd need a [Feh Pass] subscription for just this month, and I got it with help from a friend, to date, I'm still grateful to that user for the support and for us to continue upholding a strong bond.

In any case, when the time came, I realized how charming this skin was, it's one of the best we've gotten, the Hel thematic looks wonderful on her (what a delightful blend of colors and precise styling by Sachie, same person that made the art for Legendary Julia and Sara, yes, more favs 💜) and the art is overall just too good but the best piece out of the four is the normal one I think, and I'll explain why while covering my favorite part of character talking: personality.

Micaiah is a kind and caring girl towards those she holds dear, specially the people of the country she eventually leads as a queen: Daein, located in the Tellius continent.

«I don't really like crowds. Sometimes, I sneak off to the forest to catch a break. I'm guessing the guiding hand of this army might need a break, too!»

She also has a bit of a bitter side but that's not how she normally comes off, yet, this doesn't come out without a reason, she was born a Branded (a human born from a human and laguz unity that end up getting a special power and an irremovable brand somewhere in their body, highly discriminated in Tellius), she had to hide her brand to anyone but her closest friends like Sothe so that she's not mistreated.

She's highly capable of selflessness, symbolized through that power she's gotten: [Sacrifice], it heals the target's wounds at the cost of her life force, she can recover just fine, but it exhausts her in return. This has allowed her to heal without staves and get the recognition from her people in Daein, like when she was first fleeing Begnion forces in Nevassa (capital city of Daein) while repelling bandit attacks, the citizens blocked the path when Micaiah and the Dawn Brigade (it's a group she leads to liberate her country) flee, but before she could escape, she sensed danger, and spotted a young guy being hurt from an arrow a Begnion soldier shot to a child named Nico, who would remember Micaiah's act of kindness for nursing him back to health almost instantly.

There were some times in which Micaiah also had to make really tough decisions, for example: Ike's army was tasked by Apostle Sanaki of Begnion to escort her to her country as they were trying to uncover the vile senate's acts, they had to pass through Daein territory, but because of a [Blood Pact] (a contract that enforces its signer's obedience to avoid a greater catastrophe) that Pelleas (that's the former king of Daein's son) signed under the false pretention that was a peace treaty the senate proposed. Micaiah had to hinder Ike's army advancement to see if she can trick the Begnion senate so she sent her soldiers to fight for that... she wanted to give time to Pelleas so that he could find a way to remove the effects from the [Blood Pact], as they couldn't just be removed normally. She had to make those sacrifices all because of a contract, and she couldn't even just tell Ike that she was forced to follow orders, the attacks from Daein forces didn't make much sense to him naturally. It was her people or her soldiers, so she had to make such decisions that tested her willpower, yet she's strong at heart and carried out with the orders she was given.

In Fire Emblem Heroes, she doesn't talk much about those events, but that's because she wishes to be free from the chains of past days, even if for a moment, she shows a friendly personality towards the Summoner and still being herself. She became queen of Daein and led her people to an age of prosperity, welcoming both laguz and human alike.

Now, all this and more things you'd learn as you play Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (or may remember from your playthroughs) show how strongly developed and compelling she is as a character, there's a lot going in her life and she lived many difficult moments, yet she got through and grew into a kind and strong-willed woman, she truly impressed me, and I think she's truly pretty, like, I mean:

I won't deny that the Resplendent skin is magnificent and gave me the last push-up to play her home game after a long time and learn more about her, but I could see what kind of character she is and what makes her truly special... true, she's not my "best girl" (see PFP) but I still hold her dear as if she was almost high up there. And it's said that "nothing beats the original", so I certainly love her original design.

I love all her official art and how it manages to bring out her friendliness and tender side.

I'm so glad that so far, I've lucked out well with her IVs save her Hoshidan Summer alt, and she appeared randomly when pulling for others most of the time, so it's great to have her now, even as-is.

Her Brave variant from 2019 should be getting a refine next month or any time for the remainder of 2021, I know it'll be good but I would already love to know what it'll do before I give her anything else.

Omg hi! I just had to message you. I really like your blog and all the comics you post especially with tpn and the ships. I just wanted to ask about how you feel about ray x anna (ofc i saw your comics and it’s really cute) but like a more detailed answer lol. I just really wanna talk to someone about this ship cause it’s hella cute and though some people don’t see it they really have a lot if subtle interactions in the manga

Hello!// Thanks for liking my art ‘v’♥ I’m always elated to hear it!!

I hope you won’t be too disappointed with my answer but I have to say, the way I feel about ships are displayed through my drawings. If you’ve seen my drawings, that’s about as much as I can say.. but if you feel that isn’t enough, how should I put it in words.. I think they have good potential, and I’d really ship it hard if they had more interactions between them, but recently there has been none and I’ve been waiting so much LIKE for so long;; ;v;..

In terms of ships I usually follow the canon ones, because I really appreciate reading what characters have in between them in terms of their story and growth. For Noremma there are so many I can’t even count all and Norman’s actual motive and the core of his objective has a lot to do with him trying to keep Emma smiling and making her happy, he even wanted to confess to her in the novels and such and the spinoff too and Emma does a lot to return his favor towards her as well so there’s so much to explore! There were moments when I thought Ray and Anna could be like that too!

Ray and Anna have about two major interactions between them that has to do with each other’s growth so far, and I found that pretty sweet. If there’s a third one, (and I hope they do) I’d be convinced that oh, they really might end up together..!/// but for the past few dozen chapters, the parts that I thought hm they could have an interaction right here didn’t really end with them actually having one and I’m a bit.. wondering if they would actually end up together in the story.

Not that it matters a lot with shipping, you can ship whomever you want but I wish they had more?? I’d be able to draw and explore a lot more if they.. had just one more major interaction with each other, I’d be more firm about this ship.

In short, if I had to ship Ray with someone, it would be Anna. (I just cannot bring myself to ship him with Emma at all ;v; I just love noremma too much and it pains me thinking how norman would be in that situation) I think they’re cute together and that they will work very well if they do! But in order for me to ship them hard, I need more material to base off from. The interactions they had were brief but quite powerful, and had an impact on revealing and initiating the development of their character. There were segments when I thought ‘oh, the author does have this ship in mind’ as I read the manga but it hasn’t been explored for awhile and I feel that’s a lost potential because I’d really like to see more scenes with these two together ;v; and I want it.. I’m just this person who needs some base from the official material to be able to make fanworks,

but I still did draw some rayanna so you can say I have some care for them and this ship ‘ㅁ’)♥ they’re actually my third fav ship in this series after Noremma and Isabella&Leslie. So please shirai san give them more scenes. I can eat it all!

Until Dawn’s Fifth Birthday

Welp, congrats Until Dawn, you’re officially old enough to start kindergarten. You’re off to learn to read, tie your shoes, recite yous ABC’s, and learn to count to 100. Your such a big kid now, and I’m proud of you for making it this far.

I know I have done literal jack shit for the entire month, but I have been immensely enjoying the things that everyone’s been putting out for this month. So I’m gonna make this text post, not just because of it’s the five year anniversary, but because it’s actually a post I’ve been wanting to make for a while.

So here it goes:

I first learned of Until Dawn when it first came out hilariously enough. My roommate at the time had boughten it for her ps4 and I had been seeing it all over my dashboard on tumblr at the time. I didn’t play it myself though until close to a year later, when I finally had my own ps4 and I bought the game used for like $20 or something from my local game rental store. And I was hooked.

I remember jumping the first time the UD logo pulls that jump scare on the title screen. And laughing because I’m normally pretty good with jump scares, but that one managed to get me because I hadn’t been expecting one before I even started the game. (The one thing in the game that manages to make me jump every time is the mine cart you stop as Mike. For whatever reason it doesn’t matter how dark my room is when I play the game or how many times I’ve played it, I can never see the mine cart until its literally on top of Mike and the QTE is almost up and I squeak in surprise every fucking time.)

Of course I didn’t manage to save everyone during my first playthrough, I definitely lost Matt to the hook and Ash to the trapdoor (RIP darlings), and for the life of me I can’t recall how the lodge scene at the end went. I’m one of those players though that try to make choices that the characters I’m playing as would, I throw my feelings by the wayside. For example, being in the shed when the game’s making me choose Ash or Josh, and I was debating on whether or not Chris would save the girl he’s had a major crush on for a while at least, or his best friend for the last ten years. I distinctly remember wincing and sucking in air through my teeth and going “Sorry Ash, bros before hoes” and choosing Josh. And then being confused and convinced that I misunderstood the instructions? I mean I wasn’t complaining, just really, really confused. I definitely choose Ash to live at the gun one though, like there was no hesitation. I watched the whole ‘only thing I’ve ever wanted to do with my time’ scene and talk and the moment control was given back to me, the gun was under Chris’s jaw and I fired.

I’m also one of the players that didn’t know that Josh had been behind everything until the reveal either. I had gotten Sam captured so I never got any of those clues and I managed to miss the other clues that hinted at it being a set up (like the bundle of newspapers). So until the reveal I was still convinced that someone was out there killing all of them. Listen, I like mystery games but I’m not very good at connecting the dots okay.

I think I stuck around for a couple of months, gorging myself of fanfiction (all ff.net stuff by the way, I can’t remember if I knew about ao3 at that point or not) but like all interests do with me, the obsession eventually faded (helped in a large part by the rampant Ashley hate going around at the time) and I moved on.

Until February of this year. I was trying to kill time till the end of March when Persona 5: Royal released and I decided to try and see how many games I could platinum until that point. I had made it through the ps3 tomb raider games, Prince of Persia 2008, and decided on replaying the Uncharted games because the ps4 collection didn’t have multiplayer trophies. I hadn’t even thought of replaying Until Dawn. I mean, I had looked at the case and I remembered the game fondly, but that was it. There was no urge or want.

I was halfway through Among Thieves when I was bored and chilling time on Youtube. And because I had been watching a couple of videos for the treasure locations in Uncharted, one of the recommended videos for me was a game sins for the series. I decided sure why not, and watched it. And watched a few of his other ones as well, Until Dawn included.

That’s right, what got me back into the series wasn’t fond nostalgia for the characters or story. It was a fucking Game Sins video. I’m so sorry.

I was devouring UD content again. I spent like 2 or 3 weeks reading everything Chrashley (with the hyper-fixation for the game back came the ship, what can I say) based on ao3 that I could get my hands on. I was back into the tag on tumblr, going through art I remembered seeing way back when and looking at usernames that didn’t mean a thing then, but mean the world to me now. And then near the end of February, when the obsession was once again starting to flag, I decided to hell with it, and clicked on the The (Almost)s.

I’m not going to expunge all my praises for the story, everyone else has done that better then I ever could. But guys, it was so good. So so good. I was hooked back into the series once again, just as I was starting to flag. And when I saw that @queenofbaws had mentioned that she was tumblr... I didn’t do anything right away. Too scared really, figured she might find it creepy, so I didn’t do anything for like a week. And then I decided fuck it, sent a message about Chris giving Ash his sweater, and following her.

And that was it. I figured I would stick around to see the story completed and just dip. Not even make a splash, just enjoy the content from the sidelines and no one would know that I was here in the first place. Same old, same old. But that was also when I started turning around the kernel in my mind that Baby It’s Cold Outside (so hold me tight in your arms and don’t let go). I didn’t even intend to write it, it was just going to be the fanfic that lived in my mind for me to stew on before bed every night. But I couldn’t sleep one night, my brain was too on and the words just weren’t stopping, so I pulled out my computer and wrote the first part from Chris standing in the snow outside to him reaching the lodge at like 3 in the morning.

I started becoming more involved in the fandom when queenie started her wip wednesdays and asked to be tagged. Hilariously enough, those days are what started me cross-stitching again too, I hadn’t touched the pattern in months at that point. So I started posting snippets of my writing, and that one day a week was the only thing pushing me to continue writing. By that point, I had stopped hanging around the edges, now trying to push myself closer into this little fandom circle.

The day I posted the story, I was fucking terrified. It wasn’t my first story, not by a long shot, but I had always considered my writing to be shit. I thought I had good ideas, but I never felt that I was able to truly bring them to life. English and grammar had never been my best subject, I was always more of a math and physics person growing up. But then that first comment from @elliepollie came in and I almost burst into tears. I couldn’t believe that someone out there liked it so much, that they were willing to leave me a review in the first place. I’m still so blown away that she was willing to recommend it as a Chrashley story for other people to read. I think that was the point I stopped hesitantly pushing my way through, and I just kicked down the doors and just yelled ‘Hey fuckers! I’m here now and you are going to fucking deal with it!’.

That was the event that opened the floodgates for me. Suddenly I was talking to people, I had friends online with the same interests as me. I’ve written more in the last six months then I’ve done in the last ten years! I’m feeling inspired to create again. I actually went out to do the first commission I’ve ever requested (speaking of which, please please please go commisson @fudgeroach. I cannot wait until he can post and show you guys the stuff he drew for me. It was worth every fucking penny let me tell you.)

I’m going to be honest, Until Dawn isn’t my favourite game. Sure it has some of my fav lines (it had been years since I played the game, and the moment Jess started her rant outside the guest cabin I was screaming it along with her) and great characters, as horrible people as they all are, but it’s never been my favourite game and likely never will be. But Until Dawn has the best fandom I’ve ever been in and I’m so, so happy to have met and known every single person here. I seriously love every single person here so, so much. You all make my life better and I’m so happy to have all of you in it. Just to quote Chris because I can: “Every second I spend with you is all I ever wanted to do with my time.” This is how I feel. This is how I feel every goddamn day now.

So yeah, I got back into this fandom from a stupid Game Sins video. But by god if it wasn’t the best choice I’ve ever made.

(PS: for those wondering, I never did finish Uncharted 2. Maybe one day...)
