I don't think we talk enough about how Stargate's wraith aka space vampires had one of the most outside the box vampire powers to ever grace TV. Like kudos to whoever said "hey fuck it we're gonna take one of the most one dimensional villain races we've ever made which can very accurately be described as space vampires and just completely blow that idea out of the water with a single scene showing that they have miles more depth than you could ever guess".
I mean come on why am I not seeing more vampire fanfic where the vamp can give life in the same manner that they can take it?! It's such a groundbreaking idea in a trope that short of this the most recent big change of pace was glitter.
That single scene where it looks like Todd just killed John but then he turns around and gives him back more years than he took? Mwah chefs kiss. Possibly the most efficient story telling I've seen.
Anyway I support queer agenda that episode suggested and am eternally devastated that Todd didn't become a Teal'c level character but with extra gay because telepathy.

Hey red, what's your opinion on some modern writing that's very lamp shady? And do you have any advice on how to avoid "Well that just happened" dialogue?
It's an interesting question!
The thing is, lampshading exists for a reason, but it's not the reason it gets used a lot of the time. Writers might lampshade a narrative choice they're insecure about, while characters lampshade because the things they go through in a typical story are kind of bonkers, and we might expect them to notice. If a character signs on for a simple mercenary expedition and ends up discovering they're the long-lost prince of a kingdom they've never heard of, that's weird and they probably feel weird about it. If an ally is determined to 1v1 their super overpowered nemesis with no help from their friends, those friends might have opinions about how dumb that is.
This is a form of lampshading that doesn't break immersion because it's entirely in-character and doesn't lean on the fourth wall. There's a difference between a character noticing how weird their life is and a character pointing out how cliched a recent experience was. In the latter case, the character is treating their life like a story, and while it IS a story, they shouldn't know that.
There's a spectrum here, with "complete sincerity and taking every turn of the plot at face value" defining the 0-point and "complete self-aware uninvestment" at the far end, but healthy levels of lampshading live somewhere in the middle. Characters at the 0-point accepting everything that happens without question can feel just as weird as characters that won't stop pointing out the TVTropes entry they're currently living. It's about what it makes sense for the character to find disruptive or noteworthy. A hardened badass probably won't see the need to point out how bonkers a recent fight scene was, but a newcomer to the Cool Bombastic Adventure scene might be really excited when they pull off a cool special move and want to point it out.
I think this is why the recent D&D movie worked for a lot of people, because while the main characters all lampshade their lives to varying degrees, the way they do so makes sense for all of them. Edgin is a bard and storyteller so he has a slightly meta perspective on a lot of things, purposefully avoids playing along with certain narrative conventions and sometimes responds to other people's dialogue by critiquing their dialogue instead of just responding normally; Holga doesn't really care to understand how the world works and so keeps pointing out that they should just use magic to solve their problems, which is probably the most popular lampshade in the whole genre; Doric and Simon don't get a ton of time to shine character-wise, but they'll both occasionally poke holes in the pretense of the story they're in. The thing that makes this all work is Xenk, who plays absolutely every moment completely 100% straight and is entirely immersed in the objectively ridiculous setting of D&D. Same goes for most of the villains, except for Forge, who's probably the wackiest and most self-aware character in the entire movie, but in a way that makes him feel callous and disregarding of the people around him, like he's uninvested in the world not because he knows he's a fictional character but because he has too much money and power to care about anything. The ways each character does or does not lampshade their surroundings make sense for who they are as people and reinforce their characterization and place in the world instead of undermining it.
I recently watched a couple episodes of Stargate Atlantis and noticed something similar - the main character and, to a lesser extent, the rest of his associates from Earth have a tendency to make wry observations about his objectively bizarre life and the eccentricities of the people around him, which helps contrast against the extremely serious and businesslike Cool Space Warriors they keep accumulating, which helps make them feel (a) distinct from each other and (b) relatable considering all the weird stuff that happens. And the protagonist switches off the quips as soon as things start looking perilous for his team, so you never get the impression that they aren't invested in the story they're living, and as a result the various quips and lampshades come across more as a habit or a coping mechanism than a disruption to the narrative itself.
So basically I think you can get away with a lot of lampshades as long as the character doesn't feel like they know they're in a story.

you HAVE to post some of Sha're and Teal'c party time. I am on my knees. I have been robbed by the universe. Only you, the universe's insurance adjuster, can
YOOOOOO how did I just know you'd be in my inbox demanding Sha're content, you, the person I conned into watching Stargate with Sha're/Daniel content >:3
So, "Sha're and Teal'c Party Time" is a lil fic that I've been working on for a bit. It of course takes place in my as-yet-unpublished "Sha're Lives" AU, in which Forever in a Day ends with them capturing a heavily-injured Amuanet. The events that unfold from there are a full fic in their own right (in fact, it's one of the fics in my WIPs list), but long story short, they get the snake out of Sha're's head and the series proceeds more or less as usual except Sha're is living on Earth and her and Daniel get to be stupid and domestic and also Skaara shows up like WAY more because of course he's gotta visit his fuckin' sister.
But the MAIN premise of the "Sha're and Teal'c Party Time" fic is that it's the start of their friendship. Sha're is living in the SGC while she learns about Earth Stuff and gets her forged paperwork sorted out, and Daniel has to go home and start gaslighting his neighbors reminding his neighbors that he has a wife from Egypt who he's definitely totally mentioned and who is finally getting through the immigration system to come and live with him. Sha're wakes up from a nightmare and ends up running into Teal'c at 4am breakfast and then they start like... talking about stuff!
(Frankly, this is 100% about me pursuing my headcanon that Teal'c watches pro-wrestling and that Sha're would get into it via him... but it's also about becoming besties with a person who's done things that altered the course of your life forever and how to begin again when you're both brand new versions of yourself and also also it's about alien solidarity.)
Gonna put snippets below the cuuuuuut:
When she stepped into the mess, she had a book tucked under her arm and her hair pulled back from her face with one of the bright scarves Janet had gifted her. It wasn’t much, but the flower pattern set her apart even when she was wearing the same dark blue fatigues that so many SGC personnel wore. She half-heartedly grabbed herself a bowl of oatmeal and a cup of some type of fruit juice (she would have to inquire what a “cran-apple” was later, for the simple paper sign taped to the dispenser gave her no other clues and the mess staff at this early hour seemed too rushed and sleepless to bother with questions). As she turned to find a table, though, she stopped short. Teal’c stood in front of her, looking impassive as usual. If he was surprised to see Sha’re up this early, he wasn’t showing it in any way that she could spot.  “Good morning, Sha’re Jackson,” he said. Sha’re smiled a little, meeting his gaze cautiously. “Good morning, Teal’c.” For a moment they were both silent and Sha’re swallowed, glancing around the mess hall quickly, looking for a seat even as she tried to continue conversationally, “I’m sorry, I did not realize you took your morning meal this early.” “I generally do not. I am here for a hot tea,” Teal’c replied. “I apologize for disturbing you if your intent was to avoid me.” Sha’re blinked in surprise and turned her gaze back to Teal’c, frowning. “What? I…” she flushed slightly, shaking her head. “No, Teal’c, I wasn’t trying to avoid you. I… I couldn’t sleep.”
annnnnd a second one just because I know you're rabid:
She settled into a seat and cast a furtive glance toward where Teal’c was gathering his tea and turning to walk to her table. …Frankly, she feared that the past still sat as solidly as a wall between them. How does one begin again on friendly terms with the man who had, albeit under duress and servitude, delivered her to the fate that had kept her chained for two years? Sha’re closed her eyes momentarily, breathing in and back out again with carefully deep breaths, letting her lungs fill up completely and holding for a heartbeat before she slowly let the air back out again, trying to clear the anxiety from her mind. Janet had given her several methods to employ when she was feeling overwhelmed. She opened her eyes just as Teal’c settled into the chair across from her, his hands cupped around a steaming mug. He was looking at the book she’d brought with her, which she’d left sitting thoughtlessly on the table beside her plate. “The history of spaceflight,” Teal’c said, speaking the book’s subject flatly. His eyes glanced up to meet hers. “How are you enjoying it?” Sha’re shrugged, reaching out to slide the book closer to herself, idly picking at the edges of the pages. “It feels strange, I suppose,” she admitted. “When Daniel used to tell me of the technology of his world, it all seemed so… strange and powerful. How could it not be? They had killed Ra with their weapons.” She smiled wryly, shrugging again and looking at Teal’c. “And now when I read these descriptions, I can only see how small, how…” She squinted, trying to find the right word in English somewhere in her mind. “How lesser? Like these things are made of… flimsy things compared to what the Goa’uld have accomplished.”
maybe someday my brain will return from the war (the thousand projects and hobbies and responsibilities) and allow me to just. BLAST through a bunch of Sha're stuff for posting SPECIFICALLY for you <3

Jolinar
an episode rewrite fic by mushroom
Nymph was the first to gate home when the attack started.
Daniel had picked her up and ran to the gate before Jack could even think to ask him. after dialing and sending an IDC, he put her down and held her by her shoulders to make her look at him.
"I have to stay and help, go to General Hammond and tell him to expect refugees. can you remember that word?" he said forcibly.
"ref-u-gees." she repeated, nodding.
"good girl. now go!"
she ran through the stargate, nearly tripping on the other side.
"General Hammond!! we need ref-oo-gees!!" she called out, pointing back to the open gate behind her.
"are you saying to expect refugees?" Hammond clarified. "what happened out there?"
Nymph panted as she floated down the ramp, trying to gather her words. "big ships made the dirt go up in big clouds and all the people got hurt!"
up in the command center, Walter looked over at the general.
"I think she's saying that SG-1 and the Nasyans were attacked, probably by the goa'uld." Walter translated.
Hammond nodded and leaned into the microphone. "Nymph, come up here and we'll make sure that everyone gets back safely."
Nymph nodded, and made her way up to the command center as Hammond called for medical and security teams to the gate room.
~ • ~ • ~
on the other side of the gate, SG-1 was rushing to get people through the wormhole as the death gliders bombed from above. Sam stopped to try and save a man who was lying on the ground, when he pulled her close and she felt a sting at the back of her throat. she pushed the man away, wiping the blood from her mouth.
"Carter! you alright?" Jack stopped next to her, concerned. she nodded and let him pull her to her feet.
"I tried to do CPR, but he was already dead. he bit his tongue." she said, her tone monotonous in shock. Jack nodded sorrowfully. he supported so much of her weight he was practically dragging Sam back to the gate.
"I think that's everyone," Jack shouted up after walking through, turning back to watch the wormhole fizzle out. Nymph went down to greet SG-1, but stopped just short of hugging Sam.
she felt off, and the little girl couldn't figure out why.
"what's wrong with Sam?" Nymph asked, keeping a slight distance between them.
"I just need to get her to Doc Fraiser and she'll be fine, ok kiddo?" Jack smiled reassuringly, and helped her get to the infirmary. Nymph side-eyed them, but didn't argue.
"what is wrong, Nymph?" Teal'c asked, standing beside her.
"Sam feels different." she answered. "Jack said she got hurt, and she'll get better, but I don't think that's it."
Daniel walked up next to them. "don't worry, Nymph, I'm sure she's ok."
Nymph was not convinced.
~ • ~ • ~
"can you open wide for me?" Dr. Fraiser asked, and Sam opened her mouth as she was told.
"hm, there seems to be a raw spot at the back of your throat, there. have you been feeling alright?"
"yeah, just tired." Sam answered, distracted.
"alright. otherwise, you seem fine, so just take it easy for a couple days." Janet turned to throw out her gloves. "Cassie's been asking for you. she said you haven't visited her in a while."
Sam blinked, seeming to forget who Janet was referring to. "right, Cassie. sorry, I've just been so busy lately."
"well, I'm bringing her to the hospital with me tomorrow when I go to check on the Nasyans. you can visit with her then if you'd like."
"sure will."
~ • ~ • ~
Sam apologized for being late as she took her seat at the mission briefing. Hammond accepted her apology with a nod as Daniel continued with what he was saying.
"the goa'uld attacked without warning. Nasyans are- were a peaceful people. they were happy to sign a treaty with us, and the gliders were attacking before we even saw the mothership."
"it's not normal for the goa'ulds to attack a peaceful people for no reason, is it?" Hammond interjected.
"in the past, there was usually some reason for an attack," Daniel answered. "for instance, if a civilization was advancing in technology to the point of becoming a threat. however, with the Nasyans, that's not the case."
"maybe they found out we were there." Jack asked, genuinely wondering.
"well, how would they know?" Daniel argued. "more importantly, why would this particular goa'uld care?"
"spite." Jack suggested. "we've been a kink in their chain for over a year now, they probably don't like us too much."
"I have seen the goa'uld wipe out entire civilizations for no reason, simply because it gave them pleasure." Teal'c added.
"so what, Nasya was just next on the list?" Daniel wondered. "a part of me wishes it were that simple, but I don't want to underestimate them."
"maybe their reasons were just not made apparent to you, Teal'c. after all, you are just a Jaffa." Sam said coldly. everyone turned to look at this uncharacteristic outburst, and she shifted awkwardly in her seat.
"all- all I meant was Apophis wouldn't necessarily explain everything to Teal'c, even if he was first prime." she backpeddled. "would he?"
"that is true," Teal'c agreed, still wary.
"I agree with Sam, I think we should give the goa'uld more credit as a society so we don't risk underestimating them." Daniel said, eyes darting back to her a few times.
"the better you understand the enemy, the better prepared you are for conflict." Sam recited. Jack gave her a sideways glance, but Daniel just agreed and looked to General Hammond.
"what's the status of the Nasyan survivors?" the general asked.
"we rescued 237 people. the critically injured and overflow our infirmary couldn't handle are at the Air Force Academy Hospital, and the others are awaiting relocation." Daniel answered.
Hammond nodded. "proceed."
"sir, I think we should figure out WHY Nasya became a goa'uld target." Daniel argued.
"I agree, but right now relocation is top priority. I already assigned the new SG teams to help coordinate your efforts. dismissed." the general stood up and walked out of the room. Jack started to neaten a stack of papers enough to carry as the others filed out until he was alone with Sam.
"oh, Carter. Nymph was kind of worried about you earlier, you might want to check on her and let her know you're ok."
Sam gave him a look he couldn't quite place, and slapped him on the arm. "she's just a kid, sir. she was probably freaked out by all the injured Nasyans around."
she walked away, leaving Jack confused and uneasy.
~ • ~ • ~
that night, Jack was the one to tuck Nymph into her bed in the base quarters.
"did you find out what's wrong with Sam?" she asked, concerned.
"well, Fraiser says there's nothing wrong with her, but she's been acting weird." Jack told her. "I think she just needs rest, she's been working too hard."
"yeah, that must be it." Nymph mumbled. she knew it was something else, but she didn't know how to explain it and she was worried she wouldn't be believed. Jack picked up on her uncertainty, though.
"Nymph, if you know something, you need to tell me, ok?" he said, firmly but without seeming upset. she paused, fidgeting with her blankets.
"she just feels different." she mumbled. "like that's Not Sam. but I don't think she's mean! she seems more scared than mean."
Jack looked at the little girl. "you're sure you're not picking up any meanness?"
Nymph shook her head. "no meanness. but Not Sam doesn't want to be here, I think."
"what makes you think that?"
"I dunno." she shrugged, and let out a yawn. Jack ruffled her hair and walked out of the room, pausing at the door for a moment to look at her settle into the bed. stuffed animals took more room on it than the kid did, and simple drawings covered the concrete walls like a wallpaper of memories. Sam had drawn most of those with her, laughing and getting paint everywhere.
whoever this Not Sam was, he was going to get his Sam back.
~ • ~ • ~
with Dr. Fraiser unable to find anything wrong with her the previous day, Sam was able to go to the hospital to see Cassie. the young teen ran to Sam excitedly, then stopped right before giving her a hug. the naquadah in her blood alerted her to a presence she never wanted to feel again, and Sam's eyes flashed as she made sure Cassie wouldn't say anything that would break her cover.
Jack recieved a concerned phone call from Dr. Fraiser that made him run to the hospital.
when he got there, Janet told him that Cassie had locked herself in the office, refusing to let anyone but the colonel inside.
"Cassandra? Cassie, sweetie, Colonel O'Neill is here. can you open the door?" Janet asked sweetly. there was a pattering of little feet, the click of a lock, and the door opened. Cassie locked the door again as soon as Jack had walked inside, and walked back to where she had been curled up against the wall.
Jack knew something had to be going on with Sam to have both children with supernatural abilities react to her in this manner, and slid down to Cassie's level.
"the doc said something happened when Sam came to visit, but you wouldn't tell her what." he said, more to the room than the child. "wanna tell me what that's all about?"
"she said she'd kill me if I tell." Cassie whispered into her knees.
"Oh, I don't think Sam would ever hurt you."
"she would, because its not Sam." Cassie looked up and met the colonel's eyes. "it's a goa'uld."
Jack looked at Cassie in shock. it didn't make sense - Carter, a goa'uld? Nymph’s words rang in his head.
she seems more scared than mean.
that assessment didn't track with what he knew of those snake-heads. they're all evil parasites with god complexes, and this one apparently threatened one of the people Sam was closest to. but Nymph had never been wrong.
he called General Hammond to set a trap.
~ • ~ • ~
Sam walked up to the ramp as the stargate spun around, seemingly itching to go anywhere but there. the gate slowed to a stop without dialing a planet, and Jack walked into the gateroom.
"sorry, kids. we're staying here for right now." he said, grinning nonchalantly.
"NO!" Sam screeched, running up the ramp. her eyes flashed, and her voice deepened and echoed. "you must let me through the stargate!"
Daniel flinched, and Teal'c took a defensive stance. Jack reached his hand out to stop him.
"you know, I wasn't entirely sure you weren't who you were claiming to be, but both Nymph and Cassie told me otherwise." he called up to her. "what do you want with Sam Carter?"
"Samantha Carter was an accident. if you let me through the stargate, I will return her to you unharmed once I find a suitable host."
"now, how are we supposed to trust you?" Jack asked, slowly walking towards her. the marines in the gateroom all had weapons pointed at her - luckily, Jack had anticipated enough to replace the lethal bullets with tranq darts. he wasn't going to let Sam get hurt over this if he could prevent it.
apparently, Not Sam didn't have the same hesitation. she reached into her vest pocket, grabbed a grenade, and pulled the pin.
"if you do not let me through the stargate, I will drop this and destroy you all." she called out, holding the primed grenade high.
"you'd die too, though," Daniel piped up, probably not as nervous as he should've been.
"if you don't let me leave, I am already dead." she stated, anxiety leaching off her in palpable waves.
"what do you mean? who are you?" Jack asked her. she stood a little straighter.
"I am the Tok'ra Jolinar of Malkshur. and I'm being hunted by an ashrak, so if you do not allow me passage through the stargate you will assure my death."
Jack turned to Teal'c.
"an ashrak is a goa'uld assassin, and I have heard tales of the Tok'ra." Teal'c said. "a rebel alliance of goa'uld against the system lords."
"I am not a goa'uld!" Jolinar yelled, her hold on the grenade wavering. Jack instinctively held up his hands.
"alright, not a goa'uld. can you put away the grenade so we can talk like civilized adults?" he asked her. she nodded, and lowered her arm. Jack jogged over to her and took the grenade, grabbing the pin off the floor and replacing it [according to google You Can't Do That but thats what happened in canon and i dont know how else to handle that].
"there, that's better." Jack said. "now, we each have problems. you have an assassin after you, and we want Major Carter back. how 'bout we help each other?"
Jolinar glared at him. "how do you suggest we do that?"
"we could set a trap for this- what did you call it?" Jack looked over at Daniel.
"ashrak."
"ashrak, thank you. we claim we have you captured in one of our holding cells, and when he comes to kill ya, we jump him. once your little problem is solved, we allow you to go through the gate to get a new host in good faith and you send Carter back to us safe and sound. how's that sound?" he ended it with a little smile, and Jolinar thought it over.
"it's... acceptable." she relented, and allowed a duo of marines to lead her to the holding cells. Jack watched them leave with a heavy sadness that he had hoped wasn't evident to anyone else. but it was.
"we'll get her back, Jack. promise." Daniel mumbled, a gentle hand on his shoulder.
Jack just silently patted Daniel's hand. the general walked over to the two of them.
"I got a call from Dr. Fraiser. apparently, one of the very badly burned Nasyans has disappeared, and one of the doctors was bandaged and drugged in his place. I'm assuming that he is this... ashrak?" Hammond informed Jack.
"well, we better hurry to get this plan in place." Jack said. "I'm not going to let this guy hurt Carter, especially if these Tok'ra could be potential allies in our fight against the goa'uld."
Jolinar paced in the cell, waiting for the ashrak to fall for the bait. the minutes ticked by far too slowly for her liking.
a commotion outside the room alerted her that he had arrived. a tall man opened the door and walked over the unconscious bodies of the two decoy guards, grinning deviously as he approached the bars.
"Jolinar, by decree of the system lords, you will die with dishonour by the power of the harakash." he growled, almost reciting the decree as he raised his hand with a device attached to it that was sparking ominously.
"hear this." Jolinar declared, both out of self-honour and in a bid to stall for time. "the days of the system lords are numbered. tell them I died with hope. my death will only feed the fire of the Tok'ra that burns strong."
the ashrak thrust his hand forward, a beam of energy giving her a stabbing headache. but before he could seriously harm her, several marines burst into the room and tackled the man to the ground. Jolinar stumbled backwards in the cell, but she was mostly unharmed. Jack ran into the room, looking at her with concerned eyes.
"you have upheld your end of the bargain." Jolinar nodded. "if you allow me to leave and find a host, I will return your Major Carter to you."
Jack nodded. "I think we can work something out."
~ • ~ • ~
Jack held his breath everytime the gate opened an incoming wormhole for a week before the computer recieved Sam's IDC. he and Nymph ran down to the gate room, Daniel and Teal'c meeting them at the bottom of the ramp. Sam stepped through onto the ramp, and almost lost her footing as the wormhole closed behind her. when Nymph felt the familiar aura of her Sam Carter, she ran into her arms.
"it's you again!" the little girl cried out in excitement.
"of course it's me, silly girlie!" Sam returned her hug, her voice strained but still her own. Jack smiled and threw his arms around the both of them.
"so, I take it soft foods for a little while?" he joked.
"probably best," Sam smiled. "it's good to be back, though."

crowley's turning into a bit of a caricature. too much of a good thing maybe
DEAN I can do this all day, 'cause you know what? Damn, it feels good! But sooner or later, you're gonna have to face it -- you're ours. Which means that your demon ass is going to be a mortal ass pretty damn quick. CROWLEY [to SAM] What's he mouthing on about? SAM You're the third trial, Crowley.
a) ignoring any bitch implications b) you know i really dislike torture but even i got a little vicarious satisfaction from dean punching him c) i've got a hodgepodge of demon dean/mark of cain nebulous plot awareness that's on the horizon but no idea how they come to pass, so my mind keeps wandering wondering if this or that is related. focus!
Tumblr media
CASTIEL Yes. Would you say that you're looking for, uh, a partner in crime... ...or, uh, someone who's into nurse role-play and light domination? DWIGHT Brother, it's 10:00 a.m. on a Tuesday.
sir, this is a wendy's
Tumblr media
lovely shot but it feels like the shiny happy people version of s1 true detective which is on the brain because of this video of a deleted scene i posted a bit ago which is just (gorgeous) extended moody atmospheric location shots of coastal louisiana set to appropriate music
SAM Honestly, for the first time in a long time, it feels like we're gonna win. I'm good.
TAKE IT BACK, SAM.
Tumblr media
dean's just trying to help!
Tumblr media
the sick damp puppy look is just too precious for words. dean, give him a hug and some soup
Tumblr media
lovely lovely. even more true detective s1 vibes (that season of that show was one of the most beautiful things... southern gothic atmospherics off the charts. ugh. i made an edit with it and hannibal because the rust cohle is will graham is rust cohle of it all)
Tumblr media
true detective s1e2 seeing things
DEAN Anything? You've been gone long enough. CASTIEL No. There was one female, but... DEAN What? CASTIEL ...I don't think she was female
heavy sigh. transphobic jokes are evergreen
followed up by dean being flabbergasted for .. 10 seconds? that the cupid love match thing was two men. fuck you, show. i know, it's nothing new. but back to back, i'm exponentially annoyed
Tumblr media
and i'm so disinterested in this heaven business i'd never looked up naomi's actress. she was sam carter on sg1! totally did not recognize her without the blonde hair. i didn't watch a ton of sg1 but enough to be quite familiar with the mains
Tumblr media
stargate sg-1 amanda tapping as samantha carter
anyway. back to sam being half dead and abaddon smoking out (was it red? they did this with crowley too and i wasn't sure it wasn't just the lighting on the black smoke)
Tumblr media
again the twilight/zombie looks good on him
this crowley thing.. this whole girls (tv series) speech his voice is higher pitched and the accent changed? what is going on
Tumblr media
and are we supposed to be feeling something about crowley crying and wanting help from sam with asking for forgiveness? the time given his speech and music says yes, but my brain says excuse me what now. offering his neck up like bella, mushy music swells
DEAN Metatron lied. You finish this trial, you're dead, Sam. SAM So?
glad i knew that was coming
okay so i've watched this whole church scene several times now trying to figure out why it's not hitting any emotional buttons. padalecki is working his ass off and doing amazing and i'm getting nothing from jackles, subsequently i'm feeling not much of anything. did they break my emotions? which is extra weird because the text of this conversation is like.. romantic catnip? should be breaking and remaking my heart and yet...? just for a hint at the end the music reminded me of the expanse and THAT made me feeling a little something. so, like a broken record, i'm blaming this partially on the musical score.
SAM Look at him. Look at him! Look how close we are! Other people will die if I don't finish this! DEAN Think about it. Think about what we know, huh? Pulling souls from hell, curing demons, hell, ganking a Hellhound! We have enough knowledge on our side to turn the tide here. But I can't do it without you. SAM You can barely do it with me. I mean, you think I screw up everything I try. You think I need a chaperone, remember? DEAN Come on, man. That's not what I meant. SAM No, it's exactly what you meant. You want to know what I confessed in there? What my greatest sin was? It was how many times I let you down. I can't do that again. DEAN Sam -- SAM [beginning to cry] What happens when you've decided I can't be trusted again? I mean, who are you gonna turn to next time instead of me? Another angel, another -- another vampire? Do you have any idea what it feels like to watch your brother just –
like this really should be stabbing me in the gut and it's just not and it is such a shame because really, padalecki is doing so good with it. damnit, show, what did you do
DEAN Hold on, hold on! You seriously think that? Because none of it -- none of it -- is true. Listen, man, I know we've had our disagreements, okay? Hell, I know I've said some junk that set you back on your heels. But, Sammy...come on. I killed Benny to save you. I'm willing to let this bastard and all the sons of bitches that killed mom walk because of you. Don't you dare think that there is anything, past or present, that I would put in front of you! It has never been like that, ever! I need you to see that. I'm begging you.
"don't you dare think that there is anything, past or present, that I would put in front of you" like hello, feelings, this is insane, where are you
the only part that worked for me is the little handfasting moment
Tumblr media
do not to get to see this soft smile very often
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
DEAN Just let it go. SAM I can't. It's in me, Dean. You don't know what this feels like. [DEAN wraps a bandanna around Sam’s cut.] DEAN Hey, listen,we will figure it out, okay, just like we always do. Come on. DEAN Come on. Let it go, okay? Let it go, brother. SAM Hey, Dean. DEAN See? [ SAM Breathing shakily then Sam doubles over in pain. DEAN brings SAM outside the church. ] DEAN Sam? I got you, little brother. You're gonna be just fine.
calling him brother and little brother in one go
apparently i've forgotten already how cas and megatron left things in the time i spent trying to wrap my head around my (lack of) emotional reaction to the church thing. ah right, it was a spell, needed castiel's grace. that's why it's raining angels
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the music, the effects.. this all hit the right notes at least. reminded me a smidge of stranger things with the music and rain and the car and ominous things happening in the sky.
see, imagine this show, but with the music of stranger things. like, really well done music cues, not just bad generic weird fake rock blues whatever and classic rock because we have one character note about his musical preferences and we're gonna ride it into the ground. i'm so bitter about the music in this show letting it down! lol
so why did fandom glom on to the spelling of cas? since it's pronounced cass. and is cass in the captions and scripts. having never heard it but seen it a bunch, i assumed it was going to be pronounced caz. cass too feminine?
(for the record one tear came from the expanse-like musical cue and i don't think spn gets the credit for it. i'm stunned, honestly)
so sometimes, i will admit, i have a kneejerk dislike - or anger, of something that seems irrational considering my shipping preferences. like, in 2x11 playthings and sam honestly looks like he's about to kiss dean, i was mad. i felt like they were baiting this thing that would never go anywhere, i was pissy about the gay jokes in the scenes prior at the front desk. now with separation and seeing 6 more seasons, i see how they actually have often stuck to this plausible deniability romance dynamic between them and made it more textual without making the impossible full commit to gay incest on the CW.
i don't think that's what's going on with me and the church thing because i'm not like freaked out->upset->pissy, i'm just... not feeling it. super weird
trying to keep a list of the horrifying results of castiel's attempts to do the right thing.... there's just so many 🤪

The Enemy Within
Once again my to-do list is daunting, so once again let’s watch some Stargate! Season 1, Episode 3, and here’s hoping we get to see a new alien planet!
YES Already starting out talking about new planets.
I’m very happy Kowalsky has returned.
INTRUDER ALERT
Wow, they’re quick to that autodestruct button.
Wait are they just, throwing people at the door to die?
Okay, yes, apparently that is what they’re doing 😨
Oh no, Kowalsky is experiencing pain with ominous music! NOOO
He and Jack are having too much fun with this 😂
How often have the Goa’uld been doing this?! Aren’t they running out of people??
‘It’ll work or we’ll all be dead and it’ll be someone else’s problem.’ That’s a philosophy I can embrace.
They rejected Teal’c from SG-1 😔 Something tells me that’s not going to last...
‘Subject’?!
Nothing good happens when they start running ‘tests’ on aliens.
Come on General, we can be the nice friendly allies, or the people who dissected the first alien we met. Which do you think will sound better to the *second* aliens we run across???
I already don’t like Colonel Kennedy.
Oh hey, it’s this cell again.
So the Goa’uld are sending weapons through, not people, that’s less horrifying.
Aw, I like Jack and Teal’c’s heart-to-heart.
I know that has to be the possessive of Teal’c, but it doesn’t look right.
Kowalsky!
AH! WHat the hell is in his back?!
Hey, they use the telephone analogy, too! My people 💛
Uh oh, Kowalsky is eyeing the phone receiver.
Memory loss is never a good sign.
Don’t leave him alone with the Doc! You all are going to run out of medical personnel at some point.
Colonel Kennedy in the flesh!
Yay, Jack to the rescue!
Apophis - finally got the name.
Huh, the Goa’uld stole Earth ancestors and seeded them across the universe as livestock, that’s an interesting origin story. And the Jaffa are also humans, just a distant offshoot. So, the only aliens that they’ve really met are the Goa’uld, everyone else is at least human-adjacent. (Bet that makes the costuming budget easier 😂)
Poor Daniel, worrying over his wife.
Well, finding a body in his bunk isn’t going to help!
That is the grossest MRI image.
Oh no, not another doctor! They’re dropping like flies.
Back to the control room. Of course.
Get him Sam!
That didn’t work.
Yay, this doctor survived!
Ick, I would be trying to claw that thing out of my back with my bare hands. Poor Kowalsky 😭
I’m with Jack, that is so gross.
So, they can’t be removed, that’s unfortunate.
They are also piss-poor negotiators. I mean, I get that it’s immature, but it sounds like a B-movie villain: ‘Release me or I will destroy you!’ How you planning on managing that if you haven’t been released, bubba? I guess playing along until you can turn the tables and wreck havoc is beneath a Goa’uld.
Oh no, what is Kennedy going to do.
He wants to - keep it? Is he nuts?
You tell him, General!
And back to medical - time to go mano a mano. Or, I guess, scapel a Goa’uld. Doesn’t quite have the same ring.
Clever to try out the anesthetic on the other captive Goa’uld that they have!
Aw, man, come on Kowalsky, don’t start making funeral plans! You’ll come through fine! It’s way too early in the show to start losing people.
“Can I have your stereo?” Definitely a proponent of gallows humor, Jack. I approve 😁
That is a GIANT syringe.
This is more medical than I expected in a space travel show.
Those things do not get more attractive with time.
Somehow I expected there to be drama during the surgery - but no! Kowalsky’s okay!
NO, you can’t take Teal’c away 😔
WHY on Earth would Kowalsky want to see his brain parasite, Daniel??
Is the medical recovery ward the same set as the cell or am I just confused by the dim lighting? Or do they have Kowalsky in the cell?
Something’s going to go terribly wrong with this meeting between Teal’c and Kowalsky, isn’t there.
Yep.
Again, strategy and tactics aren’t big with the Goa’uld are they? ‘I’ve successfully made them think I’ve died. Now let’s go completely ruin that illusion by trying the exact same thing that failed twice before.’
Why did the lackeys obey the orders of a man who they have to know is on medical leave and just injured one of their people? I guess at least someone pressed an emergency alarm.
Hey, Teal’c isn’t dead! Again, the Goa’uld is not doing great at achieving any of his aims here.
Teal’c to the rescue!
Ew. Ew, ew, ew, ew, ew. At least it’s out of his head.
Wait, that killed Kowalsky too?! NOOO
At least this gave Daniel some hope that some part of Sha’re survives.
I’m finding it doubtful that the General is on such familiar terms with the President, but sure, I can suspend my disbelief a little here. This universe also has body-stealing alien parasites. Why not.
YAY, all four of them onboard and ready to go! Maybe we’ll get a new planet in the next episode.
Rating: 🔘🔘🔘
3/5 gates Interesting premise and I was onboard for it, but there were no new planets, the Goa’uld was literally too dumb to live, and THEY KILLED KOWALSKY. I feel so betrayed.

[Let's go crazy over this 😘]
Oh no you’re really asking me to go crazy go stupid, huh? Here’s a list of men that I wanna keep in a terrarium and study, just in the order I think of them:
1) Chuck Hansen, Pacific Rim: Full honesty, I absolutely hated him the first time I watched the movie. But by the end, and for subsequent watches, I became very attached. He’s just a cranky guy that loves his dog.
2) Fenris, Dragon Age 2: Probably the one I’m the least normal about on this whole list. I’ve killed everyone who’s ever wronged him and I’ll do it again. I romance him every time. I recognize his voice actor any time I hear him in other media. I’m so normal about him.
3) Kaidan Alenko, Mass Effect: I have no real reason for this, he’s just A Guy, and yet I’m entirely enamoured with him. His romance is so sweet, and I love that they implemented the romance for mshep in 3. Also can’t help the Canadian solidarity.
4) Daniel Jackson, Stargate SG1: I love this fuckin nerd. Poor dude has terrible allergies, dorky glasses, and floppy hair, and he jumps through a wormhole every day in the hopes they meet some aliens. And he (rightfully) geeks out about it every time.
5) Bucky Barnes, Captain America: I saw Winter Soldier in theatres when it came out and honestly, I think it fundamentally changed me as a person. Get yourself a bff that will break through brainwashing and jump out of a flying aircraft to save you from drowning.
6) John Casey, Chuck: I have a huge soft spot for big stoic characters slowly being chipped away at by the loud energetic characters. You will catch feelings, do not resist. He is befriended against his will.
7) Thaletas, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey: His little side story in the Silver Islands is one of my favourites, and the good ending with him is just so sweet. The Spartan husband I wish I could have. Realizing now that all my video game faves on this list are heavily based on how much I enjoyed their romance storylines whoops
8) Pippin Took, Lord of the Rings: He’s just a little guy. He signed up for stealing some carrots and instead ended up on a cross country quest to save the world and just rolled with it.
9) Hypnos, Hades: The bright spot of sunshine to greet me every time I screw up and die. He’s got some of the funniest dialogue, and I adore him. And I relate big time to needing constant naps.
10) Simon “Ghost” Riley, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2022): Tough stoic guy being worn down by annoying companion part two. I considered putting Soap here instead, since I adore him too, but ultimately the terrible jokes won me over. Who doesn’t love a man with a traumatic past that tells the worst jokes known to humanity.

i'm still annoyed about max's story. Grossly mishandled when the writers can't pod/kill/kidnap him out of the story, but mostly ignored. and now this finale.... it is utterly ridiculous that max assumed he was gonna go through the stargate alone and was mostly correct. like i'm glad that dallas went with him but it's unbelievable that michael and izzy weren't there to at least see him off. Or, you know, go with him. It's not like isobel doesn't share a psychic connection with max. not like both izzy and michael haven't endured max's chronic martyr syndrome and don't recognize the signs.
one of those signs being max giving his typewriter to michael like he's never coming back. it's just all ooc behavior for everyone. b/c by god the writers want open endings with tearful goodbye proposals, and trucks driving off into the sunset and fireside snuggles, and they are gonna get it.

As a fantasy and scifi loving latina, I grew up immersed in genres that did not represent me. I don't expect to love every latinx character (i just need them to be well written). But I love to see them there. Piloting starships or killing orcs or developing nonsensical science at the 11th hour.
I can't say where I'm going with this. It's 2am and I'm in my cups and I'm mad about all the hatred Ismael Cardova is getting. All for playing a damn elf in a universe where a flaming eyeball sits on top of tower looking for some lost bling. I'm tired of people getting pissed off because they're so narrow minded they can't see latinx people as anything more than sad stories or dangerous ones. We're people. We envisions worlds of magic and wonder. We're warriors and adventurers and scientists and brujos and magicians and everything you can imagine. And we're not going anywhere.

Thanks for the tag @tired-twili !!!
I Forgot The Title Of This Ask Game But Here We Go
What Book Are You Currently Reading?
Relationship OCD: A CBT Guide To Move Beyond Obsessive Doubt, Anxiety, And Fear Of Commitment In Romantic Relationships (to call myself out oof)
What’s your favorite movie you saw in theaters this year?
Hold on I forget what came out this year I need to Google.
Okay probably Sonic 2 because video game movies being a positive experience makes me hopeful and Dr. Strange writers literally dumping my girl Wanda in the trash physically hurts me.
What do you usually wear:
Either something really comfy with very little effort or something really fancy with a lot of effort there’s no in between
How tall are you?
5’4”
What is your star sign?
Aries!
Do you go by your name or a nick name?
I usually go by a nickname because my birth name is aggressively long. (Thanks parents)
Did you grow up to be what you wanted to be when you were a child?
It’s hard for me to imagine BEING something since I’m still in grad school but when I was little I did want to be an author!!
Are you in a relationship?
Yes! I’m in a long distance relationship with a Zelda speedrunner with the username K_Grovyle. We met at the Zelda Dungeon Marathon in July and have been getting to know each other since. He’s so cute and I love him lots ❤️ We also get to reunite in a few days!
What’s something you’re good at versus something you’re bad at?
I’m good at writing sometimes I guess? And I’m bad at calming my anxiety but I’m working on it
Cats or dogs?
Tumblr media
Babyyyyy goop
What’s your favorite line from something you created this year?
For a fleeting moment, it was like they were back in Hyrule, no caves, no ruins, no blood on the walls, no fear in his heart. It was like the sun had shone and set, had risen golden and amber like a million worthless, precious days that had once marked their happy ending, their happy, joyous beginning of a future.
What’s something you’d like to create content for?
Star Wars! It’s just kind of intimidating…
What’s something you’re currently obsessed with?
I’m kind of in between obsessions? I just finished season 8 of Stargate SG-1 which is the last season that counts and soon I’ll be watching ATLA for the first time so maybe I’ll be obsessed with that?
What’s something you were excited about this year that turned out to be disappointing?
Ugh
Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness
If you want me to do a full rant send me an ask
What’s a hidden talent of yours?
Uhh how would I know if it’s hidden?
Are you religious?
Eh not really. I was raised Christian and hold to some Christian values like caring about other people but otherwise it’s a lot of blind faith and homophobia for some reason so nah
Anyone who wants to do this, go ahead!!

you know, the idea of a virtual world has always interested me too, something like a mini planet that truly feels connected. but I've always found a single problem in particular.
for the scale I'd want to see, there's simply no fucking way a single server, regardless of how strong, could handle it. you'd need the most god tier server farm possible to simply keep up with processing for everyone who'd be there, and by the tike you get it you'd probably be bottlenecked by stuff like the laws of thermodynamics and the amount of data that can fit through your cables.
I do have two key solutions in mind, one of which being a stargate like system that'd honestly defeat the point, but the other idea is that it could be more feasible if we managed to make room temperature superconductors a thing. less resistance means less heat, higher bus and R.A.M speed, and overall being able to handle more updates for more players on the equally sized world.
I don't mean this in any kind of rude way but I don't think we're the same on this one. I don't say anything here out of mockery, nor do I mean any disrespect.
I really don't want to seem rude but it doesn't feel like you're speaking from a realistic point of feasible action. Like, why do you need all those bells and whistles? Why bother trying to create something so cumbersome and large that it would require future tech we literally don't have? Or that the common person couldn't obtain?
I mean sure it's always cool to think about the future or to think in terms of "what if" sci fi scenarios. But the tech we have now allows for so much creativity and I feel strongly that you could achieve a reasonable approximation of what you want in our age if you didn't rely on it being so grand scale.
I mean the other big thing is you speak of it needing a massive server because of how many people will be there, but there's no way to assure that there will be that many users.
A big thing with what we currently have these days is that users need a way to connect with the world in question, VR allows a pretty solid entry point for that. However it's not without it's flaws, even the cheapest VR headsets aren't, you know; cheap. They take a reasonable amount of computing power as well so even if you can afford a nice headset you're still running the problem of needing a computer that can keep up with VR resolutions and graphic outputs. We're talking essentially either a dual monitor setup or a simulated dual monitor set up being projected from your computer on resolutions typically around 4k on modern hardware. That's not exactly easy for a computer to just, do.
So then what about desktop users? Surely desktop users could connect to a VR world via something like VRchat right? Well yea but as a good friend of mine put it "it's like you're all at recess and I'm just watching through a drone." The interaction, immersion, and capabilities of someone viewing a world via Desktop mode are going to be wildly different. Primarily lacking compared to something like VR that is capable of really immersing someone.
If you really could pull off something like this, and you don't want to use a hosted service like VRChat that already has a userbase, you're asking your users to obtain hardware necessary for accessing your world, and a computer that can handle that hardware; and then on top of that you're asking them to discover and sign up for your own thing.
I mean to even create a world of that scale would take quite some time to put it lightly. It takes entire teams of people to create things like Elden Ring which are massive games, even if you cut out all of the mechanics and just focused on world creation, if you wanted to make something genuinely quality in nature you're going to need a lot of time and effort. You wouldn't be able to waste time developing your own servers and backend processes or the hardware to run something like that and still actually have time to create a world of that scale.
I apologize if it sounds like I'm just sitting here shitting on your vision, I don't intend to do that. It's not that I think either of us are "right" or "better" or whatever. Without people who dream big we wouldn't have half the advancements in tech we already do. I just think that your visions are a tad too big for us to be on the same page.
My idea is to create a world using what we have available to us in today's age. Where the biggest hurdles I may encounter are learning how to script in UDON or figuring out how Unity works on a deeper level. The hardware exists, the software exists; I'm not asking for a super computer or a stargate.
I don't have anything against you or the interest you have in world creation, the idea of such a thing would be fascinating; but it really feels like you're hung up on the needs of a problem you don't even have yet. You want to scale at such a degree that you've created an impossibility for yourself. I just can't really get behind that.
When it comes to things like this I'm often quick to tell people that they should break their problems down into smaller steps, rationalize a solution; and just focus on taking the first step.
However, here I feel like you're just aiming significantly too big; to the point I don't really see a reason for it. I understand that the idea of such a scale would be impressive and really cool sure, but why? How? What would such a scale truly achieve that you couldn't do with something more manageable? Why not simply start small and work up to something larger? Break down the issue, use current tech and start figuring out how to develop the world you're dreaming of?
I mean I think it would be really cool to see someone with your ambition working on VR worlds and the like with the hardware and software we have now. If you haven't already, which I assume you probably have at least somewhat; wouldn't it be better to just start learning to use applications like Unreal Engine or Unity or something, start making worlds; start uploading them to places like VRChat or other hosting services so you don't need your own servers.
There's a million solutions to server problems, host it somewhere else; host it across multiple servers; downsize until it works. I mean, it feels like you want there to be a problem. Your solutions are futuristic in nature, they don't feel realistic at all. The scale you want is unfathomable to a degree I don't see a need for it.
If you started development on something you could maybe secure funding to further your work through something like patreon or donations, you could use that funding to secure various server farms and such and little by little you could maybe actually achieve this. Instead of feeling like your solutions need to come from stargates and thermodynamics.
Sorry this ask sort of blind-sided me. My opinion ultimately doesn't matter to your life, so please don't let my words bring you down or anything. Perhaps I can't understand your grand vision, that's not sarcasm; that's not mockery. It's entirely possible that you have some kind of vision in mind that is truly a spectacle that the world would be bewildered to witness within our lifetime and should it be something you believe feasible at all I genuinely only wish you the best of luck on it's creation. However I cannot say myself that I would aim for such excessive need for scale. We've seen scale without substance before, time and time again the flood of "open world games" that have over-saturated the market with empty worlds and needless scale are a perfect example of what I mean when I say that I don't wish to create maps/worlds without purpose and reason to them. I'm not saying you would necessarily do that, but I fail to understand how any person or even a team of people could handle such a scale without relegating work to some kind of procedural generation. When you take into account just how long it really takes to create even small worlds, you can begin to see that there are cracks in your plan that have nothing to do with server space and sci fi computers. I would love nothing more than to see you succeed. So I genuinely hope you're a more intelligent individual than I am, and have some kind of idea how you're going to pull it all off, granted I'm not actually very smart to begin with but you know what I mean.
Just because I see this as something needlessly excessive and impossible doesn't make that opinion or view true; it just means it's my opinion. If people only believed the voice of a single individual all the time we'd never get anywhere. I only ask you be gracious when proving me wrong, because I would love to explore the world you some day create and experience your vision; maybe then I will understand the need for such scale and we can see eye to eye.
Hopefully you don't view me negatively for such an opinion, though I wouldn't necessarily blame you for not being thrilled at my response.

Rules: Pick any ten of your fics, scroll roughly to the midpoint, pick a line (or three) and share it. Then tag ten people.
__
1)Tesla's Moving Castle , Chapter 2 (WIP - Sanctuary - Helen/Nikola - T)
The young man, dressed in a very fine suit and carrying a pewter wine glass instead of one of the pewter or wooden tankards more common in the pubs, looked surprised by her reaction. "It's all right, crvena lisica," he said, laughing in a way that Helen didn't like. She also had no clue what he called her. "I only want to buy you a drink. There's no need to look so frightened."
2)Bleeding Through the Blue , Chapter 4 (WIP - Sanctuary - Helen/John - T)
"Nigel." she said. " 'Course. Who else did you think it would be?" Nigel's voice was teasing. Warm. Helen burst into tears at hearing it, feeling like a hole was being torn in her heart and filled at the same time.
3) The Tau'ri: Fall (Our Mutual Destruction) , Chapter 3 (WIP - Stargate SG-1 - Sam/Jack - T)
"I'm scared, Jack." He knew what it cost her to say that. His Carter was a tough woman, willing to show emotion. Happiness. Pure joy. Grief. Sadness. Longing. Everything in between. But fear was something she kept tucked deep inside. Jack understood it. She had spent so long in a man's world, where fear was a sign of weakness and not tolerated so much as scorned and scoffed at. "I know." he said softly, shifting her and moving to kiss her forehead gently.
4) A Case of New Life (Fantastic Beasts - Newt/Tina - T)
"It doesn't feel right." she murmured, a hand on her belly. Newt's heart lurched. "What doesn't feel right?" he asked, stopping and standing so that they were looking at each other in the eye. "I . . . . I don't know. But it doesn't feel like it did before. Not bad or painful, but . . . ." Tina looked up at him.
5) Neat (Sanctuary - Helen/Nikola - T)
He growled a little in the back of his throat at her. That elicited a broad, smirking grin from her. She stood on the rungs of her stool, elbows on the bar, leaning forward. She put her mouth right next to his ear. Nikola shuddered at the warmth of her breath. "Why don't you figure it out, Mr. Tesla?" she whispered.
6) Hooded (Stargate SG-1 - Sam/Jack - T)
Sam noticed every time she passed the driveway, the man who had interfered was working out there. He would watch her, even when Jonas wasn't there. She had the weird feeling that he was looking out for her. She had no idea why. After a few days of this, Sam took to waving at him, whether or not Jonas was with her. She saw the look on Jonas's face when she did, but she didn't care.
7) Proud (Sanctuary - Ashley & Helen - T)
Hands shaking badly, Ashley raised the gun, wondering if it was really going to do her any good, because the tranquilizers had just bounced off and done nothing. But if she was going to go down, she was going to go down with one hell of a fight.
8) Fledgling (Sanctuary - Helen/Nikola - G)
Helen lost it at this point, a chuckle escaping her. Nikola's smirk turned into a grin. They stared at each other for a few moments, then Nikola rounded the desk, still cuddling the baby bird.
9) Two Kinds of Sparks (Sanctuary - Sam/Jack - T)
Sam laughed at this and he cracked a smile too. She sobered and, reminding herself to be professional, held out her hand. "Sam Carter." He took her hand, shaking it. "Jack O'Neill."
10) The Whoas of Babysitting (Stargate SG-1 - G)
"Uncle Daniel, do you know where babies come from?" Daniel felt a jolt of shock go through him at this. He coughed a little in his shock. He had no clue how to answer that.

Today’s message is about going beyond expectations of others. Please take only what resonates and leave the rest. The cards used are from The Magic of Unicorns by Diana Cooper (artwork by Marjolein Kruijt) and The Soul Reflection’s Galactic Angels by Nadine Swiger. . Today’s galactic card leads us through the Stargate of Lyra to connect into the pure and loving energy of the Galactic Unicorns. Allow their energy to fill your soul. In doing so, you will finally be able to release and let go of other’s energy. It’s time to release other’s expectations or doubts they place upon you and now is the time to reclaim your energy. . It’s time for you to go after your dreams and be all that you can be!! Find the courage and the strength to move forward and don’t worry about what others may think. Everyone has opinions, the only opinion that matters is yours. Are you being true to yourself? It’s time to step up into your potential. . There is hope and celestial beings are guiding your path! Allow yourself to light up so you can be the light for others. When those who doubt you see you shine, they will realize just how wrong they were about you! And if not, they will fade away from your path completely and that will be OK. . Lead with your heart and casual chakra today. Your casual chakra is located above and slightly behind the crown chakra. It’s your chakra that connects you into the celestial realm. It’s time to connect in to hear what they have to say. If Only...
I’m not a man who overly enjoys change in his life, in his television, even less so. I can appreciate the need for it, and I even, on occasion, understand it, however, that doesn’t mean I have to accept it.
As a keen rewatcher of shows from my past, I often throw myself into a binge watching frenzy for one show or another. It was following one such binge-fest that I decided to put together this list, a list of shows that I believe could be resurrected for today’s market and still out perform many of the offerings on television today.
Feel free to let me know what you think, or even offer your own suggestions for shows that are missing from the list. Also, you may have guessed it, but I love Science Fiction.
Tumblr media
10. Futurama (1999-2013)
This beloved cartoon series will most likely feature on many lists like this one. It fought through several cancellation attempts before finally succumbing in 2013.
From the same creative mind as its sister show The Simpsons, many hoped that it would get a reprise one day but as yet it has not materiallized. Its stupid humour and outlandish tales made it one of my all-time favourites, this is why it’s on the list.
The show was closed off beautifully after seven seasons. The final episodes were beautifully written and the show was signed off with all the love and care it deserved. It’s for this reason that I don’t want it brought back. I know, I know, this is a list of shows I want brought back; Let me explain.
When a show reaches a natural conclusion and has been given enough time to explore the confines of its universe, it comes as less of a jolt when it’s finally time to say goodbye. That doesn’t mean that parting is any less sad.
So, if Matt Groening decided to write another season, I would welcome it, but the fact that he’s not only strengthens the beauty and genius of the episodes that us fans all know, love and can repeat verbatim. And if you don’t agree, you can “Kiss my shiny metal ass!”
Tumblr media
9. Stargate... Maybe Universe? (2009-2011)
SGU was the third incarnation of the much loved Stargate Franchise. Three films and five television shows, comprising three mainstream, one web series and one animated, Stargate was one of the biggest franchises of the late 90′s early 00′s. If you’ve not seen it, “WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN”, but also, “that’s cool, it’s not for everyone”.
In summary, providing you can supply the correct coordinates of a remote destination, the ‘Stargate’ allows instantaneous travel from one gate to another. The gate network was created by an ancient race of beings, and throughout the various shows we learn that various Gods of old were in fact aliens who came to Earth either as benevolent beings or to enslave humanity.
Stargate SG1 and Atlantis were both, for the most part, cheap and cheerful. That’s not to say that the storylines didn’t have their darker plotlines with ethical or moral dilemma’s, but they were fun, enjoyable shows. The beloved characters became household names, and I can’t help but think of Teal’c everytime someone says “Indeed”.
Hand on heart, it felt as if the franchise was running on fumes when Stargate Universe was released. The darker, grittier concept of SGU felt like a drastic step from the previous shows and may have contributed to its demise. Now, however, I’m not so sure. Television has got darker over the last decade. Shows have had to portray more realism in their production and storyline. I can’t help but think that SGU was ten years too early, but maybe it’s not too late.
With a cast list including Robert Carlyle, Louis Ferreira and Ming-Na Wen, it has the star-power. The ending of the series saw the cast go into cryogenic sleep pods for a crossing between universes, who’s to say it didn’t take ten years? I say, dust off the cobwebs and bring us back a slice of Stargate we can get our teeth into.
There have been many rumours recently of a new reboot being released, which I’m not a huge fan of, especially with Stargate. With so many shows, movies, and games, the Stargate universe has already got a huge back story to draw from and a reboot would destroy so much of what came before it. An extension of the work laid out before, however, could be a great way to breathe fresh life and energy into this amazing franchise.
Tumblr media
8. Legend of the Seeker (2008-2010)
Based on the novels of Terry Goodkind and created by legendary director Sam Raimi, this show has the pedigree. This show can be likened to Hercules or Xena, but it didn’t reach a similar level of notority.
I have not read the novels, and I probably never will, but I enjoyed this show. At the time there weren’t many shows like it on television, so it filled my quota for Fantasy/Adventure quite nicely.
With a small cast of regular characters, it’s easy to pick your favourite and cheer them on from the sofa. It falls into the bracket of “Bubblegum for the Brain” television, but endlessly watchable. Although I’ll admit it is a little dated now, the only reason this one comes in at 8 rather than 10 is because this show was never really given the ending it deserved.
I suspect that resurrecting this show would be impossible now. With the high-budget, polished shows like Game of Thrones, Wheel of Time, The Witcher, the new House of the Dragon and even the recently finished Outpost, Legend of the Seeker would find the fight for audiences too hard, however, I for one would welcome some lower budget, character driven fantasy shows like this one on our televisions.
Tumblr media
7. Space: Above and Beyond (1995-1996)
A cross between Battlestar and Starship Troopers, Space Above and Beyond is another show that was ahead of its time. The effects and production of such a series was too expensive to maintain in the 90′s, which inevitably led to the show being cancelled 4 seasons earlier than planned.
The show centres on a group of space pilots known as the Wildcards, these untested pilots, fresh out of training academies, are the last traces of the Earth’s navies in a defence against an little-known about race called the ‘Chigs’.
I grew up watching shows like Buck Rogers and Battlestar Galactica, so a show like this with epic(ish) space battles and cool planes doing death-defying manouvers was cool, I just wish it lasted longer. This is definitely a show that could do with a second chance, even on a lower profile network such as Sci-Fi, I reckon it could do well filling a void in the genre.
Tumblr media
6. Firefly (2002)
Firstly, 2002? Wow, it doesn’t feel that long ago does it? It especially doesn’t when you watch the show. The production value of this show alone should have kept it alive, not to mention the storylines, cast, acting, comedy, meloncholy, emotion and beauty that it contained.
Even if you’ve not seen this series, and I know there will be many who haven’t, you will recognise many of the faces from TV shows and film over the years following its cancellation. Not to mention the creator/director, Joss Whedon, who I know you will have heard of. If you haven’t, think Buffy, Angel, Avengers Assemble and you’ll get an idea of how big he has become.
Normally, when you consider a director as notable as Whedon, shows don’t get cancelled early, unfortunately, this was still early in his career and the power available to him was probably not as abundant as it would be today.
There has been a steady outcry from fans ever since 2002 to have it reinstated, and in 2005 we received the movie Serenity. Named after the “Firefly” class ship, Serenity caught up with our favourite hapless crew and saw them off on their last mission. It’s because of this movie that Firefly finds itself at #6 and not #1.
This show probably sits at #1 of many people’s ‘bring it back’ lists, but for me, the movie Serenity closed the door on most, if not all, loose ends from the show and gave it a fitting send off. As a result the available storylines from the series have been deminished significantly. If Serenity hadn’t been released, I would put this show as #0 or #-100, however, as it is, it was given closure by the movie, and although, I can imagine the cast coming back and reprising their roles aboard the Serenity, it may do more harm than good to my memory of Firefly.
Tumblr media
5. Defiance (2013-2015)
Television shows that create a world you could see yourself living in are a beautiful thing. They captive your imagination and draw you in fully. They create neighbourhoods, similar, yet so vastly different from your own that it becomes hard not to yearn for them. Defiance did that for me.
At a time when distopian Earth seemed like the go-to for many television networks, we found ourselves in a futuristic St Louis, where we meet Joshua Nolan and his adopted daughter. This is the setting for the show, and more exactly, the town of Defiance. The Earth has been inhabited by seven new races, known as the Votan’s. Irisa, Nolan’s daughter, is also a Votan.
The series centres on Nolan as he tries to keep his daughter safe from the intrigue and back-stabbing politics rife in Defiance, as well as, over-bearing military organisations and her own mysterious destiny.
A show such as this has a great atmosphere. The town was built from shipping containers, so the large infrastructure is real. Sure, it’s still a film set, but it has an authencity to it. As a viewer you can really put yourself in the town and it makes you feel included; At least, I do.
The characters and acting was of a strong television standard, and personally both Nolan and Irisa are two of my favourite characters from any shows in this list. I found myself truly invested in their futures. The perils and decisions they had to make brought me concern and sympathy for both of them. When a show gets you that emotionally tied in, you just have praise the writers.
I always had the feeling that the creators tried to tidy up the loose ends in Defiance. I think they knew the end was coming and worked towards a resolution of sorts by the end of the third season; but rushed it. I never felt that it was truly ‘put to bed’ as it were. It may be too costly of an undertaking to recreate the Defiance sets now, but it’s doable, and certainly something I’d like to see.
Tumblr media
4. EUREKA, A TOWN CALLED (2006-2012)
Since the show’s cancellation in 2012 I’ve watched it eight times, yes, that’s once a year, religiously.
Another in the line of ‘fictitious communities I want to live in’, Eureka portrayed a world of wonder, fun and unity. The town, Eureka, was home to some of the greatest minds. Working together, but individually, they were responsible for making the world a better place. However, as Jack Carter, the new Sheriff of Eureka found out, it wasn’t always plane sailing.
It is because of Jack Carter that I enjoy this show so much. Constantly derided for being not as intelligent as the residents, Jack never gives up; mostly never. He puts himself in harms way time and again to rescue the hapless scientists when their inventions go astray. There is a reason that he’s front and centre in the shows banner, because that’s exactly where Jack Carter stands in the show.
Eureka will never get you pondering the eternal questions of morallity or life, but it is a heartwarming, funny and often exciting show. For me, it inspired me to learn languages, take up electronics, and just invest in myself and my curiosities; and it still does. The premise for this show was ingenious, and it’s not something I believe to be out of the question to bring back. So much so, that this is only stopped from being higher on the list by the pure quality of the next three entrants.
Tumblr media
3. DARK MATTER (2015-2017)
From the legendary creator of the Stargate TV Franchise, Dark Matter was a brilliantly devised show, cancelled on a nightmare of cliffhanger.
Six crew wake from cryo-sleep with no memory of who they are or where they’ve come from. Each with their own demons chasing them we followed the crew of the Raza for three seasons before it’s untimely cancellation; Something I’ve come to expect from the SyFy network.
There was a deeply familiar atmosphere in Dark Matter, born from the creators influence. Whether it was the ship architecture or the actors appearing in cameos, reminders of Stargate could be seen throughout. This didn’t, however, diminish the show’s appeal, only added to it. Regardless of where the details came from, you knew you were in safe hands.
The cast were well established actors, and have since moved on to other great shows. Add this to the storylines, and the obvious future adventures the show had in store, it becomes very hard to see why SyFy made the choice they did. Unfoturnately, and very much like Joseph Mallozzi’s other show, SG-U, Dark Matter was left unfinished. However, unlike the former show, Dark Matter was left on a huge cliffhanger; One of the biggest I can recall from any show.
SyFy seem to like taking Space-faring shows and cancelling them early, with the current success of The Expanse, which they also cancelled in 2018 before bringing it back, they won’t want another science fiction, ship-based show on their books, but I’m nothing if not an optimist. I will keep hoping and praying to the television gods that a network somewhere will inject life into some of these forgotten gems, and I truly hope that Dark Matter is at the top of the list.
Tumblr media
2. TERRA NOVA (2011)
As unique show premises go, this must the uniqueiest of all unique premises, premisai... whatever, it’s unique.
Using a wormhole a group of explorers go back in time to the Cretaceous Period in order to start again, leaving behind the rapidly dying Earth of the 22nd century. If coming face to face with dinosaurs 85-million years in the past wasn’t tricky enough, the colony of Terra Nova must also battle against unseen forces whose only goal is to stripmine this new world for their own benefit.
This falls into my ‘Community’ band of shows, but also, who doesn’t love dinosaurs? I know I do. I know someone else, too; Steven Spielberg. It would be easy to assume that with such a name as Executive Producer this show would run for twenty years unimpeded, unfortunately, it only managed a single season.
Ratings were strong, and appeared to be ranked highly for many demographics, but it still got the boot. It’s hard for me to understand sometimes, I know TV is still a business, but with an average of 7.5 million viewers, I find it hard to see why something like this was canned so early. There was a rumour that Netflix would take it on, but that sadly never materialized. This is perhaps where Camp Cretaceous came from, and Netflix realised they could get what they wanted without the large pay out.
With the recent Jurrassic World movies it’s clear that dinosaurs sell, they always have and always will. This is why I’m so disappointed that nothing has been done with this show for a decade. I still hope that one day we see Terra Nova back on our screens as I believe this series had miles (or millions of years) left in the tank. Please unearth this fossil and give it life again!!
Tumblr media
1. SANCTUARY (2008-2011)
There is one thing I Google more often than any other, “Sanctuary Season Five”, alas, so far I have not received any good news.
Sanctuary was unapologetically cheap and cheerful, I hope the creators don’t mind me using that term, but I feel that if some of the greenscreen effects weren’t done in that way, we may not have gotten the four seasons we did.
The beautiful array of characters, pulled from all genres of literature, folklore, myth and legend, gave this show such a breadth of content unlike any show I’ve ever seen. The writers reinvented tales of old putting flesh to the characters we would only ever have seen in our own minds while leafing through a good book.
Jack the Ripper, Nikola Tesla and Dr. Watson are just a few of the legendary characters you get to meet, and not in the guise you may expect. Each with their own unique history and stories to tell. If you’re a fan of things that go bump in the night or howl at the moon, this show is for you.
As I said previously, it’s cheap and cheerful. I don’t believe the budget was ever too extensive for this show. As a concept first broadcast as webisodes, and bought by SyFy, I don’t think much was changed as far as the effects budget. That, in part, is why I would love this show to be given another shot, but properly. This show was beautifully written. The stories were rather intricate, but they were weaved in a way that brought nice closure, except for the ending.
As the final credits roll, you will find yourself screaming, “What happens next?” You’ll follow all your favourite characters on their ups and downs until all looks to be over, until our dear Dr Magnus pulls an ace out of her sleeve for the umpteenth time, only, we don’t get to see what happens.
Compared to many shows, the ending to Sanctuary is such that you can accept it, reluctantly. What gnaws at you, however, is what might the future hold. There is massive scope that could be explored in future seasons if only it was given the chance. It’s a show I’ve watched twenty or thirty times, and I expect it will always be on my playlist until the day I die. And, although many of the shows above could be switched back and forth, this one is exactly where it belongs.

supernatural s9e17 mother's little helper (w. adam glass)
noticed misha directed this episode, will be honest i don't take note of the director unless while watching something catches my eye
SAM Yeah? See, because ever since you killed Magnus, you've been acting... sort of...obsessed. DEAN Well, maybe because I want an end to all this. Maybe because if we find Abaddon, then Crowley ponies up the First Blade, and we kill her and him both. So, what you call being "obsessed," I call doing my job. SAM Okay, um... I get it, Dean. I'm just checking in. DEAN I'm fine.
nice brotherly (wait no not brotherly!) concern. and dean is TOTALLY fine. no issues here. he's just workin, sammy!
(sighing that it's a men of letters old timey thing, it's just not my jam on many levels)
so now is the mark making dean grumpy(er)? fic is giving me unrealistic expectations
Tumblr media
always a good sign.
the whole bottle, dean? does the mark change your alcohol metabolism? i guess i don't know that it's the same day still. no sleep all booze makes moc!dean somethin not good
Tumblr media
dude getting picked up by the van makes me expect a demon slice and dice phone call situation a la s1!meg. i don't remember what the blue light monster was. not a dragon is about all i got. oh right, vespa
do they ever use christo anymore? haha apparently not
Christo is God's name in Latin, will make a possessed person flinch. Despite many subsequent encounters with demons, this method of detection is not used again by the Winchesters. This has long been a bugbear of fandom.
one episode! until s14
DEAN Acting out how? SAM Well, same as the woman -- aggressive, violent, impulsive.
i wonder if dean is feeling some of these feelings too!!
Tumblr media
CROWLEY You're lying to Sam like he's your wife, which kind of makes me your mistress.
ha ha
Tumblr media
LOL from the side i was all SHIRLEY MACLAINE????
Tumblr media
er s3e6 fear of flying - jenny o'hara as nurse rhonda sterling
i started an ER rewatch last year maybe? and her character was memorable even she was only in 2 episodes. givin trouble to our beloved nurse hathaway
Tumblr media
huh never seen someone do that before. i appreciate them showing us his little routine for racking. show me that competency
Tumblr media
DEAN What do you want? CROWLEY You tell me, romeo. You rang. Let me guess -- you butt-dialed me? DEAN Whatever the hell that is.
do you expect me to believe dean winchester doesn't know what a buttdial is??
CROWLEY What's going on with you, huh? You call me, you hang up. You want Abaddon, you don't want Abaddon. You want the Blade, you don't want the Blade. If I didn't know you any better, I'd say you're stalling. Just between us girls, how did you feel when you sunk the First Blade into Magnus' head? DEAN Not half as good as I'm gonna feel when it's yours. CROWLEY Love it when you talk dirty. You know what I think? I think you felt powerful... virile... and afraid. DEAN Afraid? CROWLEY Don't scam a scam artist, darling. You're stalling 'cause you're scared.
another thing that was lost a bit i think when crowley was straight evil, didn't get to see him being clever and insightful (in his assholeish way)
Tumblr media
did i ever do a hiky for abaddon? don't think so. it's more noticeable to me now that you can't see the red hair
Tumblr media
stargate universe s2e7 the greater good - alaina huffman as lt tamara johansen
JOSIE No. It -- it's pre-Enochian. A crest of some sort. Kni-- "Knights of Hell"? What is that?
reminded me to look up enochian, hadn't realized it was an actual thing
Enochian (/ɪˈnoʊkiən/ə-NOH-kee-ən) is an occult constructed language[3] — said by its originators to have been received from angels — recorded in the private journals of John Dee and his colleague Edward Kelley in late 16th-century England.[4] Kelley was a scryer who worked with Dee in his magical investigations. The language is integral to the practice of Enochian magic.
okay well this page says it was used by adam in paradise, so what came before that, how did she know what it said? bah
JOSIE I could be more useful to you. People underestimate a woman. MOTHER SUPERIOR No. That's not it. You love him. He loves you, too, you know. Like a sister.
LOL what. everyone's hot for the winchesters of all generations?? i thought she was offering because he had a family
Tumblr media
CROWLEY I saw you. I saw the two of you together. Nothing like Cain? What's in that bottle? Delusion?
snorted
DEAN Where you going now? CROWLEY I'm going to go water the lily. Care to cross streams?
would love to see his face if sam or dean took him up on his propositions
do not understand the point of that baby hunter interaction. and why is he so clueless? with the swarms of demons that been around the past handful of years, surely even a freshly hatched hunter would know how to handle them? confusing.
JAKE But he did do exactly what you said he would. He saved you. CROWLEY Of course he saved me. We're besties. And now he's ready.
okay then :p that explains it.
bummer that dean is so grumpy now but he is extra pretty when he's like that
keeping souls in jars, okay. will this teach sam the lesson that when regular people lose their soul they turn into violent uncontrollable animals, but when he lost his soul he was just only sometimes violent and had a reason for it!
haha finally being practical, phone exorcism recording, hurray writers
Tumblr media
nother episode where they're too busy to have an angsty we're-not-brothers-yes-we-are thing
well i'm grateful it wasn't a flashback heavy episode after all. this whole soul harvesting business is a lot more labor intensive than cas getting all those souls from purgatory
