LITERALLY!! I said this so much last season, but I will say it again for season 2: Yas and Tori are both suchhhhh good actors, in addition to the amazing chemistry they have. Every single scene I see them bringing it...they make the characters feel so lived in and real and also every little line adds something (however small) to the narrative.
Honestly when I imagined what terms of endearment they'd use for each other I didn't have "my love" on the list (probs just cuz that's not a term of endearment I use lol). But then hearing Yas' delivery I immediately was like, yeah this is EXACTLY what Lucy would say and how she would say it (all relaxed and casual and lilting and loving) and Kate must feel so incredibly loved when she hears it 🥺
So ANYWAY, we really lucked out with this casting and when the Kacy spinoff-movie comes out some day I will be campaigning for Yas to win an Oscar and Golden Globe !!!

no shoujo manga no life etc but even tho i very much enjoy literally every typical shoujo beat, themes, events, long etc, i cant help but notice more and more how the ideas of fashion/trendyness, make-up and weight loss are so intrinsically tied with the idea of 'love' and 'growth' and 'trying hard for ur partner/s/o’ in a way thats... tbh incredibly insidious, especially since most of the time its framed in a cutesy way. like... i get it, trust me. i get the meaning behind it. its about methamorphosis. its a conceptual/visual methaphor to show how a character is making changes on the inside (which manifest outwardly). the occidental version of this wud be the (infamous) classic ‘glow up’/’makeover’ scenes in romance movies (which has already been discussed and dissected, and deservedly so, infinite times)
but the thing is.. when theres an entire chapter dedicated to the weight loss of an already skinny character (and btw, the conclusion is, in fact, that you absolutely should not get fatter if you respect yourself), or multiple plot points feeding into the idea that not putting ‘enough’ effort in the way you look is immature (a notion that makes sense from a societal point of view, tbh. but its such a complex matter that when its simply glossed over it just ends up sounding...bleak, in my opinion), or whole ARCS about unkept 15 y/o girls who didnt give a fuck abt her own appearence are now self-conscious and thats good actually..... well that just sucks, you know
maybe its not all (most of it, at least) as in-your-face as im making it sound, but still. its.. its bad dude. obviously i wud not love shoujo manga as much as i do if it always were so fucking cringe. the genre has so many beautiful stories to offer. so many lovable characters with immense growth, and actually very complex & difficult themes that it explores in very nuanced and mature ways!!!!!!!!! its just that i dont rly agree with the way a loooot of them handle the topic of beauty standars (for young girls and women especially).
like, 4 ex im reading this cute af story which could have been handle very poorly in the wrong hands, since it deals with toxic behaviours in romantic relationships. but its. so fucking well done?? it explores all the gray areas in suchhhhh a respectful way, and never sacrificing the heart-warming feel/overall positiveness of the series.. but when it comes to the topic i previously mentioned? i feel it lacks a bit of.. deconstruction, i guess its the word?

You make suchhhhh a good point about jj's red flag "girl boss" moments. I think that the writers do a shit job with female empowerment at times, especially with her. Most of the girl boss moments I like are with Emily or Penelope, where they're being super smart or charming or good at their jobs (or Emily kicking the shit out of someone) lmfaooo. Minimal loss is a great example for me of Emily being a strong and feminine character. She's soooo badass in that episode and i love it <3 But a lot of times they completely miss the mark on strong female actions, particularly with emily and jj. A lot of times I think they rely on sexualizing them to catch or interview an unsub, which is fine until it becomes some of the only representation we get. I can think of sooooo many for Emily in particular where her big moment is just turning on the "feminine charm" to flirt with or arouse the unsub. There's the swinger episode, the episode with the fox, but the ones that stick out are 52 pickup and the Doyle arch ofc. Like it happens sooooo much it gets a little weird after a while. Then there's the flip side, where they have a girl yell at a male unsub who's? Already cuffed? With Elle she has that scene where she yells at the man who's house she's searching ("what's the matter scotty? Scared of a woman who's not afraid of you?") Or Emily pinning down that unsub in season 5 and telling him to "just relax" when he's getting r*pped in prison. It just. Doesn't seem empowering to yell at an unsub who's already in cuffs lol. And JJ. JJ is just a whole different breed because her girl boss is either being a mother or just being an ass to unsubs or just the male members of the team. She just straight up hates men at times which is funny until it just goes too far to people who don't deserve it. Being a jerk ≠ being a feminist
yeah the writers do Not do well writing women lmao and you can always tell when they’re trying to make it ~a moment. like emily in limelight “if she were a man you’d say she had balls” or that elle quote you mentioned or any other odd lines of dialogue that dont quite fit. they do their best when it seems like they’re not even trying: emily sacrificing herself for reid in minimal loss, penelope being just as if not smarter than reid and not shy admitting it.. those are good moments.
tbh the emily stuff.. like her flirting w unsubs.. thats just kinda what she’s good at? yeah it’s definitely repetitive and maybe even overdone (i can never get rnough of those moments ahfhkshd shes just so hotkdhskdjksjd) but its in line with her character and her specialties. manipulation is her forte and flirting is a good way to do that smoothly. it automatically lowers someones guard as they anticipate whatever possibilities are suggested and more willing to be open and susceptible to her casual questioning. it’s less suspicious. and honestly i do think there’s something to be said ab an attractive woman using the creepily lustful gaze that she’d be subjected to anyway and using it to her benefit
not gonna even attempting to say the prison r*pe comment was appropriate. however… i think that was less of a failed attempt at a girlboss moment and more about emily (and extension the team) taking out frustrations from the previous episode. they’re still grieving and hotch’s emotional state is kinda up in the air rn. his turmoil throws the others off balance too. emily snapping and crossing the line with an unsub is an example of that: a manifestation of all the pent up rage she has for what their leader went through. it also does come back around to the suggestion that hotch was sexually assaulted by foyet in his apartment
the point is that all the women on the show act like that at least once, thanks to the completely fucking idiocy of the writers. what makes it different with jj, at least in my opinion, is that she does that shit way more than anyone else. her very aggressively gendered comments combined with her “sassy snarky” personality where she makes fun of people and rolls her eyes all the time just makes her seem.. mean. and tbh we all go through a “man-hating lesbian” phase but it should quickly balance out to a more broad perspective of gender roles in society. continuing to bash men just for existing and lumping them all as one idiotic mass is just terfy. its not breaking down any barriers: its upholding the traditional binary, just degrading one instead of the typical other. feminism is not an excuse for transphobia. the way to end misogyny isnt through misandry, but i dont think jj HAS an appropriate perspective. shes still very (willfully) ignorant about a lot of this stuff if only bc of her refusal to listen
anyway anyway anyway long story short YEAH. theres an acceptable threshold to account for the show’s inevitable stupidity, but jj pushes way past that. its not just a line or two, its her whole fucking personality. it makes her very hard to like when she’s so fucking hateful

Let’s Talk Books - A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro
I got into this book thinking it was a genderbent, modern day version of Sherlock Holmes about teenagers solving crimes at boarding school. It is not.
A Study in Charlotte takes place in an alternative universe where Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, and James Moriarty were all real people who had stories published about them and were made famous. Generations later, their descendants are still around and known far and wide thanks to the stories. Our main character is James Watson, who meets Charlotte Holmes when he gets sent to America to go to boarding school, and they are quickly forced to work together when they become the prime suspects in a murder case. So while it was close to what I thought it would be, I really missed out on the female friendship that I went into this book looking for.
Nonetheless, I did enjoy this book. I think partially because I was listening to it on audiobook while I crocheted a blanket and I loved the narrator. It wasn’t my favorite and there were definitely a few things I didn’t like. Watson, mainly as a narrator can be a little insufferable at times. Early on in the story he has some anger management issues that were frankly just awkward and uncomfortable, and he also gets strangely possessive of Charlotte early on despite only knowing her for a few hours. He also very obviously has a crush on her and some of the things he thinks are just a bit gagging, especially because it seems like he doesn’t even realize he has a crush on her. Those aspects did get better later on as they both had their personalities more fleshed out. But he does have a thought process that is like “Charlotte’s not like other girls” and he’s constantly making comments about her makeup when she uses it for disguises. She also typically dumbs herself down when she wears makeup and it just has a bad overall vibe that girls who wear makeup are dumber than girls who don’t and that just left kind of a bad taste in my mouth.
The good parts though: The mystery they were solving really was intriguing, and the stakes were a lot higher, and there was more action than I was excepting for a couple of teenagers. Towards the end their relationship with each other got more interesting and I’m looking forward to seeing how that continues later on in the series. New characters were also introduced that definitely made the book more entertaining. And although I didn’t like Watson, I found myself really liking Charlotte Holmes. She has a nice arrogance about her but it doesn’t feel overblown.
I honestly would’ve given this book 4 stars but then the big reveal happened and it was a character that I had suspected from about the halfway point. That’s my favorite part of reading mysteries because I like to guess who it is and am usually wrong. I thought for sure I would be wrong this time because it seemed so obvious, so I was disappointed when I was right.

I do have some spoilery thoughts I want to go over so read on if you want
So starting with the ending, I called that it was nurse Bryony literally halfway through the book and while the reveal that she is connected to the Moriarty’s is cool it didn’t make up for the fact that I called it. Also I definitely thought that Tom had some suspicious behavior, and was upset that again, I was right and he had bugged their dorm room.
Also it came to light later on in the book that Watson’s dad and Charlotte’s uncle had conspired to trick Watson to moving to America and enrolling in the boarding school just so the two of them would be friends. I understand the reading behind it, but it’s such a shitty thing to do to your kid. I do love his dad though. Just how nonchalant he is about them being suspects in a murder case and how he essentially cares for Charlotte like she’s his daughter as well as Watson. He seems like a really cool, genuine guy and any scene he was in I enjoyed.
I loved Mr. Wheatley trying to help James but what a scumbag having his room bugged just to try to write a book. Like bitch come up with your own ideas please.
Charlotte kissing James at the end because he was dying is suchhhhh an over-played trope but I also found it really cute that she’s legitimately trying for him. No complaints from me here on that
And finally, I didn’t love Charlotte’s drug problem. I understand that drug use was a thing for the original Sherlock Holmes, but a 12-year old getting hooked on cocaine and having it escalate from there just seemed a bit over the top. Especially if her family is as strict and influential as they seem, why would they not just stop her from the beginning until it got so bad they shipped her out to America?
I will continue on with the series but the second book has some not-so-nice reviews on Goodreads so we’ll see what happens. If the second book is not very good then I definitely won’t continue on. This book was only get enough to get me curious, not to get me hooked.

but like he really does his best to try and help others out,,,especially freshman or younger students in the course who seem to be struggling with adjusting to like college life

but is also super serious about helping people and isn’t scared of anything, from jumping into a fire to save someone in need of medical assistance to carrying people who’ve broken legs,,,,,,,
also let’s take a moment to imagine daniel in the paramedic like get up like the uniform,,,,thank u
everyone thinks its super adorable that daniel’s first rescue story was saving his cat who got stuck in a tree

you’re actually one of the TAs for one of the tests in the paramedic course and there’s a requirement of paramedics being able to carry at least 125 pounds by themselves and you’re supposed to be checking off who can pick up the human dummy and who cant
and so you’re going down the list and ur like “next,,,,kang daniel?”
and you don’t look up when he steps over you just motion with your hand toward the dummy and you’re like “pick him up and walk three laps around the room”
and when you look up you almost drop your clipboard because ,,,, this handsome boy smiles and is like sure!! and uve never seen someone so happy to drag around a plastic human before
but there he is,,,,hosting the dummy up like it weighs n o t h i n g
and he turns to u and is like “can i try carrying two?” and ur like ,,,,uh,,,,,s,,,sure???
and once again he baffles you,,,picking up the other dummy and going on his merry way
and in what seems like the shortest period of time than everyone else you tested he does his three circles and stops in front of you
carefully setting the dummy’s down and wiping at his forehead,,,,that pretty grin on his face

I've never posted but always read your theories. I've been thinking all day and I think there's a lot of clues that point to Spencer having multiple personalities rather than her having a twin. If it IS Twincer I think the scene in the promo with Wren having a gun is him shooting Twincer so that she has a wound. If not, I think AD stands for After Death as in someone we think is dead but they aren't or someone "became" someone new if that makes sense lol.
Omg I love that!! Twincer is like "I'm so jealous of my sister's life, I want to go hook up with Toby, but in order to do that, I need a wound on my shoulder to look like her. Shoot me Wren" and that's why Wren was so scared to pull the trigger. This is suchhhhh an amazing idea, good one. It's so twisted because why couldn't Twincer just draw a fake wound with makeup or whatever? But it makes sense especially because we saw Twincer and Wren at the airport so we know they're working together.

right like it honestly gives me anxiety attacks at shows sometimes knowing that there are going to be cliquey people there like i'm there for the music that's all i care about, i just want to enjoy it without being apart of that whole scene but like we're subject to it when we go to the shows and it just. sucks so bad
im sorry it stresses you out that bad :((( it is so shitty tho i hate the Culture around bands especially frank, theres suchhhhh an elitist mentality and i try so hard to stop when i see myself playing into it.... being on this hellsite and being exposed to the entire fan base on twitter and at shows and shit can just be soooo draining and influencing, but yeah i def feel you i wish we could just go to shows and enjoy being there and not have to worry about how many times who’s seen him or who waited longest in line or who’s met him the most or who he knows by name like can we just,,,,, be there and have a good time

FUCK LMAOOOO!!! you tryin to ROAST poor ol Jenn?!**SPOILERS**(cant tag on mobile)but serious answer, no. tbh i found kylo utterly boring in TFA and didn't care a single bit about any potential romances for any of the characters, least of all reylo because it seemed to come out of left field from fans after TFA. the interrogation scene wasn't that interesting to me except rey being badass and resisting the force. With TFA, I just liked watching a scavenger reverse engineer everything and battle the bad guy. TLJ just gave me a glimpse of how compelling kylo is, and the romantic tension between the dark and the light is suchhhhh good drama. I'm weak for bonds and that shit (Force Bond!!), and I'm even weaker for enemies falling in love. So TLJ got me good with that shit. it got me real good

Man, I quiiiite liked the show. I didn’t expect to like it as much; esp. coz these reboot thingys never really work for me, usually the characters are just there (literally) in name, with absolutely none of the things we loved about them in the original. But this series did a really good job of bringing back everything we loved about Zoya and Asad; and even made it better (Asad is not a perpetually angry asshole this time, just merely withdrawn and exasperated, but fully in control of his emotions. Except when it came to his feelings for Zoya.............. He was fully driven by his heart there and *siiiiiiiiigh* ngl, it got me a lil swoony. 🥰🥰🥰) The callbacks with the scenes/dialogues and character quirks were suchhhhh a delight, it really was like our same old characters, just set in an alternate universe. Also, bringing back Dilshad/Tamaatar was just such a balm to my heart. I wish we’d seen Asad interact with them more though. Oh well, that’s for S2, I guess! (Also crossing fingers for finally getting my recommended dose of “Ammi, woh BECHAARI nahi hai!!!!!!” then, coz honestly.............. It’s literally my favt. part of the show.)
I found where the show falters is the whole.............. Spy thing. Like....... It’s kinda ridiculous to think of, imagine the govt. recruiting Virat Kohli or Mary Kom or any other eminent sportsperson of the country as a spy and sending them on full-on dangerous missions, lol. Kuch Bhi. Every time Mandira Bedi showed up on the screen I was rolling my eyes coz this whole angle was just tooooooo far fetched. Also you’re right about it being predictable as hell; it’s coz they literally gave it all away in the trailer. It would have definitely packed more of a punch if we just saw unexplained shots of WHY Mandira Bedi is keeping track of Asad/Zoya until they revealed that he’s a trained spy at the midpoint.
Another thing I wasn’t toooooo keen about was the randomness of some of the characters thrown in. Like, Zoya’s parents and Sana (MY FAVE!!! MY ACTUAL FAVE!!!!!!!! PLS GIVE ME MORE SANA I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!!!) and Zoheb/Anika and all work; even Salman and his irritating family/gunde, and the annoying Phupi contributed to the plot properly, but why was the cast so bloated with so many randos on Asad’s side? Like what was the point of bringing back Rashid and that whole plot point of him leaving Dilshad for Shireen (whom we saw for LITERALLY ONE SECOND)??? Ayaan toh phir bhi theek, he had a purpose to serve towards the end (not too much, but thank god, kuch toh dikhaaya; the fact that Najma turned to him when she couldn’t reach Asad and he just readily showed up willing to do what he did, lol..... I loved it.) but like...... That ex girlfriend plot??? Kyun? So ainvayi. It served no real purpose (other than one callback in the last ep ka car scene where Zoya asks him about the ring.) They even brought back the actor who played Farhan (Imran’s brother/Nikhat’s haraami husband) and I was like oh, yeh BHI hai iss plot mein, but he was just there to be a chamcha to Mandira Bedi? Hein? Why cast this dude specifically and confuse us if he had nothing to do with the character from the show?? Isse achcha toh you shoulda brought Vikram back as Imran and have him be the secret Pakistani spy.
So yeah overall, I’d give the show an 8 out of 10, maybe even an 8.5? The aesthetics and production quality and stunts and everything were on point and executed really well. The title track is awesomeeeeeeeeeeee and I’ve been humming it ever since I saw the trailer. The acting and chemistry toh was evident from the trailer itself, and it delivered splendidly. Everyone here knows that I’m not really a KSG fan, but honestly no one else can play the character of Asad like he does and have THIS level chemistry with SJ. Everything I hated about his character in the original was done away with and I really was able to wholeheartedly ship the couple. Surbhi toh........ Kya hi kehna; Zoya is a role she fully inhabits and I’m just so glad to see one of my absolute favt. Tellywood FLs return, and that too in perfect form!!!!!! And the fact that it was on the web and we finally got one of our Tellywood OTPs kissing for realz? I’m ecstatic, lol. 🤪🤪🤪 So yeah, on the whole, I really liked the show, it was a good binge watch for me (who’s been away from Tellywood for the past few weeks, and esp. anything of QUALITY..........) I’m so glad S2 has been confirmed, I hope we get it within the year (max by this time next year) coz I really need to know how that cliffhanger resolves and how their relationship progresses!!!!!!!!
