Zilabee i love your blog very much, every time you post I get incredibly excited you're so knowledgable about those four randy scouse gits, but I'm trying to get into the book side of the Beatles and I know there are many posts out there to help with that, but I want to know personally, what do you think are the best Beatles books? Not by popularity or the best author, what are your favourite Beatles books you would recommend to people to read? I know you're a Paul girl (which aren't we all at heart? cause even if he isn't your fave he's your faves fave, so by association we're all Paul girls), but please don't worry about favouritism again this is an ask of your fave Beatles books

it's hard to recommend people things, I'm not deeply inside the capability of it, and most beatles books, like the beatles themselves, are basically awful
the books on my beatles shelf that I feel most fondly towards aren't about beatles, they're about Tara Browne and Robert Fraser
i want desperately to recommend the books by Maureen Cleave and Iris Caldwell but they never wrote them so I can't, so don't read those
i really like dakota days by john green. that's probably embarrassing to be the first book I can think of that I like but there we go. I think I went in with very low expectations, so that probably helped and I've ruined that for you by saying it's good. it's about john with yoko, not all the beatles, and as with all john books, the author is very 'actually I knew John well, I really got him...' which is what all men do, but then instead of 'we shared this amazing connection! he TRULY LOVED ME!!' he's more 'he was just really fucked up and desperate to be loved' which is not what most men do, so I liked that. Also he storifies it all, which keeps you a bit detached from how heartbreakingly sad it all is if it's remotely true.
i loved the longest cocktail party by richard delillo. I thought it captured apple beautifully, and it's very much of it's time, which is also the beatles's time, so it's very much of the beatles even if they're not often there. it was written in 1970 and it does cover the total death of all happiness, but obviously only from a very close perspective, and he'd left by then and everyone disappeared, so instead of pretending to know things he doesn't, he just drifts into newspaper headlines and reports, and it works really well for a person like me who finds the endings very difficult
i think one of the very first beatles books I read was here, there, and everywhere, by geoff emerick and I have a lot of remembering it being good while now not really remembering it, but i do like books by people who were actually trying to work while the beatles were around, rather than trying to wank all over them, because there is a suitable level of frustration with them, which makes it all feel a bit more bearable. you do have to put up with how much he hates george, but we have to put up with a lot of things
as time goes by, by derek taylor, is very good if you don't mind that derek taylor is living his life in inverted commas and I'm only recommending you books about the terrible aching sadness of the end, sorry. I love the way it's written though, I love the way it's felt, I love how much he hates Paul in 1968... but then as he says, many of the people he likes most are absolutely terrible, and he means brian, but it's true of all of them and I just really like that he feels it
everyone recommends it I know it's not new, but michael braun wrote the beatles's progress and that is very good and earlier and brighter than a lot of what I've mentioned. and it's short! which I think is important in beatles books too, because it means people aren't trying to fill pages. apart from the cocktail party all of these are quite short.
actually that's probably my main advice when you're trying to decide to read beatles books:
pick short ones to start with
pick ones written by people who worked with/for them
pick your favourite era and start there
and you don't have to care whether it's 'trusted' or 'reliable' or whatever, care about whether you enjoy it, and then pick over the bones of the biases later
i have read some of the big full biographies, but they're kind of boring, trying to tell you everything when they don't actually know anything and they weren't there. tumblr's better for that. also they sort of pretend not to have an opinion, which is both a lie and a boredom, because opinions are the best thing. books by people who knew them DEFINITELY have opinions and you get to judge them.
I liked pete best's book more than I thought I would, I just read it the other week. I can't remember a lot about alistair taylor's book now, but I remember enjoying it, specially to get more sense of brian, and brian's autobiography is written by derek taylor so it snips along. either of george martin's books is nice and quick. chris salewicz wrote the best biography of paul mccartney and it fits in your pocket. cynthia and may are both good.

very cute stuff, best friends to lovers...everyone knows at this point, but i'll forever express my love for this basic ass trope (i literally have a full list of books for b2l. the best romance books come from this trope!!!). one thing i loved about this fic is the portrayal of beomgyu-- just a genuinely good guy. the way he was discreet about his jealousy instead of making a whole deal about it, like fuck i love a mature, healthy dynamic, its so freaking cute

haha. definitely not another b2l!!! i never included this on my other blog's rec list (bcs i dont think it was out at the time) but it is my most recent reblog on 4beomy so i'm fairly sure you've seen it. but regardless, for anyone else who's looking for beomgyu fics, please please please READ THIS. i wouldn't say it's a plot sort of story, it builds off of a lot of flashbacks and whatnot, but that's what makes it so great. like you get a feel for their relationship, why both characters just wouldn't work out (hence the title) but then the more you read the more you're like...alright... YOU KNOW?? like fuck, i almost teared up by the end it was such a cute love confession. a must read for all the bamtoris.

okay so, yesterday I found your spn meta by chance and fell in love with them 'cause more than writing they're like images, like they really depict things and I just immediately understand what you mean instantly + I started to rewatch Steve Yockey's episodes 'cause I feel like I like his writing (lots of queer! lots of rom-com references! but it's all done so intellingently, I love it!) but ALSO sometimes it doesn't translate to me + I just saw you wrote about "Optimism"= I GOTTA ASK: what's your take on "Optimism"? I don't understand what the Zombie story and the Musca one should reveal about the characters. Visually, it looks like the Musca = Charlie, so Harper and the zombie are ??? I'm mad at myself 'cause I don't seem to get what the show is telling me so I'm hoping you can share what the show tells YOU and, vicariously, I can get it as well (lol). THANK YOU!

I have so many thoughts on Optimism. It's one of my fave episodes! I actually did a re-watch-slash-convo with some friends on Discord and just transcribed the very, very, very LOOONG bulk of it today!
I haven't written much on the Musca. After spending a lot of time of @scoobydoodean's blog, I've just about decided the Musca plot is actually a Sam's emotions-through line more than it is a true dark mirror. Even AU Charlie is cheeky about it:
AU CHARLIE (annoyed at Sam, about the Musca): Your nifty metaphor has holes.
Basically, Charlie is saying that mirrors aren't one-to-one, and that trying to force-fit them into being one-to-one can be super annoying sometimes.

CHARLIE - Every two hundred years there is "bad egg". When a male fails to find a mate, he abandons his community and starts using peoples bodies to "nest". Binding them together with a viscous goo. And when the goo fits...

The Musca/fly is at face-value:
A) A bodysnatcher plot: In that regard, it could be like all angels, demons, or anyone inhabiting a body. (Cas, Lucifer, Michael, Crowley, etc.) Ergo, it's a dark, uncharitable Cas mirror the way Dave Mathers outlaw wraith was in Tombstone.
It could be saying that Cas "failed" among "his own people" and cruelly took up space in a human body. But that would be grossly oversimplifying the whole situation, saying that Cas "should have stayed with his people," which ofc doesn't work.
It, as Charlie says, "has a lot of holes." @ilarual has written a lot about the totalitarian structure of Heaven. And Sam himself wants Cas around. As far as metaphors go, it's a dud for Cas.
B) It's a failure to thrive plot: Because the Musca "failed" in The Real World with its Own People, perhaps failed to live up to The prescriptive Dream of Success (TM), now it's wreaking havoc on others.
Sam himself "failed out" of Harvard. He "choked." Kevin Train and Patience Turner are also Failed Gifted Students. Losers who didn't live up to their potential. This could even apply to Chuck, binding together his characters because he's a Loser with a capital L.

ANYWAY, I feel like the Music plot is a "red herring" for a few reasons.
One: The main Harper plot is about breaking narratives, about not relying so much on books. And then Charlie says this:
CHARLIE: Goo. So, yeah. I'd say this is the right place. Now, I'm just trying to figure out what we are dealing with. Thus, books.
Aside: Later Cas says sarcastically in Ouroboros that Sam and Rowena, "Have many, many books."
So, there's this niggling indictment of trying to find too much truth in books...

Two: Sam has a tendency to see something and, like, imprint on it. He tends to fall into "It's just like me!" instead of speaking frankly about the present situations and emotions.
*In American Nightmare, he sees Madga Peterson, an abused child* -> "She's just like me!"
*In Somewhere in Between Heaven and Hell, he sees someone lying about something completely unrelated to his current situation* ->"Omg, they're lying to them, like I'm lying to Dean! It's just like me!"
*In Lost & Found, he meets Jack Kline, who is Lucifer's son "OMG, he's just like me!" -> *spoiler alert* Jack is not in fact much like Sam at all. -> Sidenote: instead of speaking frankly about how Dean is grieving, how Lucifer killed Cas and likely killed Mary, he uses complex euphemisms with Jack, ones that actually obscure the reality of the situation! This winds up annoying Jack and making him pull away from Sam.

IMHO...Sam isn't...naturally all that great with emotions.
He tries really, really hard, and he loves patterns, but he's always seeming to force-fit situations and scenarios into neat little boxes so he can passively-aggressively use it to indirectly communicate something he feels about himself.
He has a very cognitive empathy style. Bless him.

So what's REALLY going on here?
Well. In this episode, he wants Charlie to stay. He wants Charlie to stay and fill a void the other Charlie left behind. He wants Charlie to stay really, really badly. And he beats around the bush about it.
At first, he sidesteps his own emotions by passive-aggressively implying that it's Dean that in fact needs her.
CHARLIE: He'll be fine. Your brother, I mean. He's got other friends, right?
SAM: Plenty. Uhm, he used to have a pretty damn good wingman.
CHARLIE: So call that guy to check on him.
SAM: That guy was you.
CHARLIE: No, it wasn't.
SAM: Right, I, uh, sorry. I didn't mean that.
And then by trying to make the case fit her.
He's very indirect and weird about it. Because he's Sam. (It's a contrast to the effortless, awkward-but-honest communication style we see from characters like Jack and Dean in this very episode.)
SAM: Charlie, you can't just quit and go live on a mountain somewhere. People need people.
CHARLIE: Why? Cause they're the luckiest people in the world?
SAM: Look, come on. We just do. We're social animals.
CHARLIE: Emphasis on animals.
SAM: Yeah, but you're also a hunter. The things that we've seen, it's not so easy to just walk away from it all. Believe
me, I've tried. Our Charlie tried.
CHARLIE: Yeah, well again, she ain't me. It's my life, Sam. Not hers. And not yours.
Ah, yes. Instead of saying, “I want you here,” it’s, “people need people.”
And Hell, sometimes indirect communication works! Like how Dean and Cas use Felix the snake to indirectly communicate with Jack in Peace of Mind!
But the difference with Sam is...he's not using this indirect communication style to find out how Charlie feels (the way Dean and Cas use the snake to suss out how Jack feels).
No, he's using the whole thing to try to tell Charlie what he thinks is best for her! To tell her things, not find out things.
Eventually, he breaks and says what he actually thinks, but only after AU Charlie is starting to lose her patience with him:
SAM (faux-sadly): Got to say, I do feel kind of bad for the Musca. I mean, he could have been happy if he'd stayed with his people. Didn't have to go off on his own just because...

CHALIE: But your nifty metaphor has holes. I wasn't looking for love. I found it and I lost it. And I didn't kill people and literally nest in their body parts so...(Scene cuts to other Musca removing the body of the dead one)
SAM: Okay, yeah I know, I know, How about this? Don't leave.
(Aside// I think this is a cheeky nod to the fact that Cas and Dean weren't looking for love either. In fact, they tried (and keep trying) really, really hard not to love each other. Their real life was faaaar more complicated than some simple "bodysnatcher plot.")
But thank God--Sam finally says outright what he needed to say to Charlie: Don't leave.
Now, it probably would've been better if he's gone a step further: "I don't want you to leave," but for Sam, this is pretty good progress.
SAM: Hear me out. Sure some people can do bad things when they're desperate or scared. But the guy we just saved, he has a wife and children. I'm not saying that all people are good people or even that most people are but if we help people then maybe they'll help people and all that. And that's worth it. Even with all the tears and death. It's worth it.
CHARLIE: Just to be super clear, I am not like the fly monster. (Sam chuckles) But, I'll think about staying.
So I think OVERALL the Musca plot is really about highlighting Sam's difficult communication style, and I think it's intentionally being cheeky about it how it's using a "really "dumb metaphor" with gaping holes!
It's about how Sam tries to force-fit the case of the week into saying what he wants it to say...instead of just saying it.

I think Sam has a little bit of a "mental main character syndrome." He sees a scenario and moves directly into cognitive empathy, reading the situation and thinking:
How can I apply this to myself? Or make it a stand-in for either something I want to believe about myself or a stand-in for something I want to say indirectly?
Sometimes you'll see ppl insist that Sam is the "MC" because every storyline tells you "something about Sam." But I'm more in the camp that it's Sam's inherent cognitive style of empathy at work, desperately reworking anything and everything to make it apply to himself.
Whereas Cas and Dean (and Jack) have a truer emotional style of empathy, connecting with people for who they actually are, as they are.
That's not to say that both styles can't be manipulative when we want them to be. But Sam really struggles with his style in a way I feel like Dean and Cas do not. Dean and Cas perhaps don't even realize what effective communicators they actually are!

Do you have any works or links to other works that are related to mobility issues? Bc tbh it's one of my fave tropes out there, especially coupled with waddling and heavy, labored breathing 🥵🥵🥵
Also for your consideration: Bucky is gaining weight at a good steady pace, but Steve is always just ahead of the curve (multiple curves, and big ones, if you know what I mean), always ready with new clothes and more reinforced furniture. So he and Bucky don't really even notice much, how quickly Bucky is gaining, nor how much
Until one day he wakes up and gets ready for his day of doing nothing, only for him and Steve to have to go to the store. Which is fine, in fact it's kind of hot, seeing all the things they buy and knowing all of it will be gone within a week, two at best. But when he starts the long trek from their apartment to the car, Bucky notices how awkward moving is. It must be bc he just woke up tho and everything is still waking up and settling, right? Yeah, exactly
But then they get to the store (after struggling to squeeze Bucky's fatass into the car) and he finds walking even harder than it was earlier. He's never needed a scooter before, and he and Steve both drew that line when they started this, that he wouldn't get to the point where he needed one, but, well... He tries to tough it out but eventually he has to go back for a scooter, waddling heavily, moving his legs a conscious effort for the first time in his life
He and Steve aren't expecting how hard it is for him, nor are they expecting how hot it is. When they get home, Bucky gets settled on the couch as he usually does, and Steve tries to broach the topic gently about easing off, maybe focusing on weight training to help with mobility, but Bucky interrupts him and demands Steve stuff him full. That was the hottest thing that's ever happened to him, and he wants more. He wants to notice that struggle when he gets up every morning, wants to feel his body struggle more and more each day under the weight of his weak will and gluttonous nature
It doesn't take much for Steve to agree and start stuffing him. By this time the following month, Bucky has an even harder time getting around as he practices walking around the apartment for the first time in weeks. He's breathing so heavy and leaning against walls that for a moment Steve is actually concerned, but then Bucky moans and says between heaving breaths "this... Is so... hot... I want more... Stevie... Please..."
(half a year later and Bucky is close to being immobile, if not there already)

Also, I don't write a lot about heavy breathing (mostly because I don't think about it too often lol), but you're so right 😮💨😵💫😵💫 it's so hot!
As for that idea you left me... 🥵
Okay, first off, I love the idea of them deciding, yes, this is what we want to do. This is the life we want to have, so we're going to prepare for it. All the furniture will be reinforced, all of Bucky's clothes will be sized up, etc. It's all ready to go. Literally building a life they can grow into (Bucky growing literally, Steve not-so-literally) 🥴
So, yeah, they just enjoy life as normal, without noticing too much. Bucky is gaining, but there's no rush. They're just having fun. Taking pleasure in the slow move toward total gluttony and the most hedonistic lifestyle possible. Other than the exception of immobility. They'll stop when they get there 👀
So. They don't notice all those changes. That is, until they have to do something out of the ordinary. It sneaks up on them. All the weight Bucky has piled on.
I imagine Bucky doesn't leave the house a lot, he never did before, and he definitely doesn't leave the house all that much once he's intentionally gaining. Why waste all those calories moving so much, y’know?
Also… you're totally right. It is hot to see how much Bucky is going to plow through within the next week or two. The cashier at the checkout even cracks a joke about how they must be stocking up for this month (and maybe the next, too), huh?
That sends a shiver down Steve's and Bucky's spines… Yeah, haha, the whole month 😅😮💨 they definitely won't be back next week for more food. No… no way.
I love the idea of the struggle the whole way! The slow snowball of becoming more and more aware all the way from the apartment to the store and back. I really do.
However, also CONSIDER:
Bucky doesn't notice how hard - and even awkward - it is to move his fattened body while in the store. How could he? He is too excited to go with Steve and get to pick out everything he wanted in whatever quantities he wanted. He likes what Steve buys, of course, but seeing all the options is fun, too.
Plus, they say never to go shopping hungry, but, well, Bucky is always hungry.
So, Bucky is distracted, not paying attention to his own body, because he's occupied in the store munching on a few snacks they're gonna buy anyway and tiding himself over until dinner which is really just an endless number of plates going down Bucky's throat until they run out of food or until Bucky finally calls "uncle" and admits to being too full to continue. Impossibly bloated under his thick layer of fat.
So, with the distractions, it's not until they're out of the store, carting their groceries to the car that Bucky realizes how he feels.
His body.
He's-
Oh.
He's heavy.
He's lumbering.
His, uh, everything is jiggling.
He's sweating. Has he been sweating the entire time?
He's breathing hard. How was he eating and breathing at the same time in the store when he's having a hard time just walking?
And, God, has it felt like this the entire time, and he was just too consumed by the snacks he was stuffing down, by the food he was eagerly grabbing and piling in the cart?
Oof, is the car really that far from the front of the store?
Maybe he… maybe he needs to sit here, on the bench at the front of the store, to catch his breath while Steve gets the car and brings it around.
Bucky plops his wide, plush ass down on the bench, panting, and looking up at Steve with begging eyes. (He doesn't know it, but there are crumbs on his sweet, round face from eating so passionately in public - he just can't help it.)
Steve teases him, patting his massive tummy where it now rounds out hugely in his lap, "I didn't think you ate that many snacks! They're really weighing you down, though, huh?"
Even just the gentle, semi-public appropriate tap tap makes Bucky's belly wobble. Not just his belly, though. Bucky can feel it jiggle his love handles around his fat waist and chubby back as well as he can feel it in his puffy tits and wide, blubbery thighs.
Fuck, he's fat.
"It's… not… just… the… snacks…" Bucky pants around his fat tummy. Because it isn't. He's so heavy. Not from eating. He's still starving. He could eat so much more and weigh himself down so much more. He's fat. He's accumulated so much weight that he's having a hard time moving. He never thought he would get here. It's. It's so hot, though.
"Mmm," Steve hums, tilting his head to the side and evaluating the situation. Steve's biceps flex as he grips the handle of the piled-up shopping cart tighter. "No, it's not just those snacks," he licks his lips, eyes locked onto Bucky as he lowers his voice, "a couple of snacks wouldn't make you blow up like a Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon."
Bucky feels himself turn redder. Not a result of excursion. It's just arousal.
Steve peers around, making sure there's no one within earshot before he says, low and growling, "I'll go get the car then, fatass. You sit here and try to catch your breath." He winks, "I don't think you'll be able to, not with this in the way," Steve grabs his belly hard and heaves it up and down hard enough that Bucky can do nothing but grab the heavy rolls around his sides and groan. It feels good, but it also makes him burp. He might not be full, but his stomach is huge at this point. Not being full doesn't mean there isn't a lot of stuff inside him.
(Now, back to your idea with some modifications because I love immobility so much I couldn't resist 👀)

The issues with just getting Bucky into the car… waddling out of the apartment and to the parking lot. It takes them three or four times longer to leave than Steve leaving when he's by himself.
There are rest breaks.
There are slower, heavier, almost waddling steps. Then, they have to wedge Bucky into the car. (At that point they find out that it's a damn good thing Steve bought that seat belt extender months and months ago because there's no way in hell the belt would reach around Bucky's girth otherwise.) Bucky makes Steve shut the door for him, making a show out of sucking in and holding his belly out of the way - he's not so fat that he needs to do all that, not yet, but the action of squishing his blubber in just to fit leaves them both breathless.
When they actually get to the shop… Bucky has to rock himself again and again to get enough momentum to make it up. Steve has to help. The car rocks under Bucky's heft. He's so heavy he might as well be multiple people getting out of the car at once - the car's poor suspension and chassis.
T h e n
Bucky's steps are even more shuffling between the car and store than they were between the apartment and car. Bucky's lungs are having more trouble now. He's panting. He's holding hands with Steve, but quickly Steve has to hold him by the elbow, steadying his slow, rocking waddle that undoes Steve as much as a strip tease would - his boy is big.
They've already decided by the time they get to the doors of the store that Bucky is gonna need a scooter. (I enjoy the denial element you added but I also really like the idea that there's no fucking way they can not. Bucky's just too damn big. 😮💨) Bucky wonders out loud about weight limits on them and Steve jams a finger into his plush side, telling him there's no way he's that fat… not yet.
Maybe eventually. Because they can't stop.
Bucky doesn't want to stop.
Steve doesn't want to stop.
Bucky enjoys the scooter an embarrassing amount. It's so easy compared to walking. He doesn't have to feel his thighs rubbing together constantly, legs pouring into one another heavily. He doesn't have to feel his arms rubbing against the stacked up rolls on his sides. He doesn't have to feel the bottom of his belly hit his thighs with every step, thick, jiggly, heavy. Well, he can feel all of his body still. But there's not as much friction. And it's easier on his joints. He can catch his breath. He really likes the scooter.
Steve really likes seeing him in the scooter. He looks so big. His ass fills the seat. His belly dominates his lap - spilling over his thighs with his tits crowning that huge amount of flab.
They can hardly keep their hands to themselves through the store 🥴🥴🥴
The ride home is dangerous, more so than it needs to be, all because Steve doesn't want to tear his eyes away from his big, big boyfriend. He doesn't want to take his hand away from where he's placed it… squished between Bucky's soft, fat thigh and the overhang of his massive tummy. He's so soft. So heavy. And so hot.
Literally. He's hot as a fire with all his insulatiom, and he's so hot because they're both perverts 😮💨😮💨.
Steve is hard the whole way home. Actually, he's throbbing. But. He can be responsible. He can talk to Bucky like an adult. He can ask if Bucky is alright - that was really intense, and they didn't plan to ever go so far, so is… is this what he wants? Does he want to slow down? Does he need to slow down? Does he want to lose any weight?
Bucky shuts him the. fuck. up.
Well, first, his gut does it for him.
Bucky's gut growls.
Steve has just let go of him, letting him drop back down onto the reinforced sofa (which he might break otherwise because, as is, the slats creeeeak under all that weight). It took twice as long to get back into the apartment. Steve "helped" a lot more this time. Groping Bucky and whispering in his ear, practically kissing and breathing down his neck, as he shuffled inside. So, now, Bucky is lying back on the sofa. Even reclined, head pointed toward the ceiling, Bucky's double chin is thick and puffy. Even reclined his belly bulges out in front of him. Round. And growling. Loud and angry. Over the sound of his heaving breaths.
Bucky moans in complaint. His fat fingers stretch out in front of his ballooned body, wiggling his digits along with the rest of his arms (and his bingo wings 😳) as he whines, "foood."
Steve twitches uncontrollably. Oh, God. He can't - he can't possibly be about to beg for more food, right? He can't be that greedy. Right?!
"I… I don't… want… want to stop. I don't… don't wanna stop. I want, ah, I want food. I want you to feed m-me," Bucky swallows, moaning the rest of his greedy, breathless words, "this… is so… hot… I want more… Stevie… please."
Steve can't scurry back to the kitchen fast enough. He's breathing hard now, too.
And when he realizes that the groceries are all still in the car, he groans in fucking frustration. He is going to fucking rush through bringing everything in, sorting it, and making something for Bucky to eat. First, though, they'll plow through the snacks. Pre-packaged things Bucky can eat now before his belly starts howling in hunger. Then, Steve will have real food ready for Bucky. He's going to feed Bucky that food. He's going to keep going when Bucky's heavy, thick arms get tired of shoveling food into his mouth. He's going to keep going until it's all gone. Then he's going to get more food and keep going. He's going to give Bucky more. He's going to blow him up for real now. He's never going to let Bucky get off the couch again if he doesn't want to. He doesn't need to walk. He doesn't need to do anything but eat and feel packed full - more food and fullness than man, stretched around what he's gorged himself on. He's going to feed him until his hips brush up against each side of the sofa. As wide as it is long. Meant for three or four people. But. Just Bucky. Fat, fat Bucky. So large that he can't heave himself up over the huge, heavy boulder of his gut. Endlessly soft because his stuffed, hard belly is entirely hidden under impossibly thick blubber. A kept glutton.

I just wanted to say that I love your pride and prejudice metas! A lot of them gave me a fresh perspective on the characters. My friend is a p&p 2005 fan, I'm partial to p&p 1995, and interacting with different opinions on the adaptations, characters, is my favorite part of fandom; and you're a particularly interesting, well-reasoned voice.
I particularly like your interpretation of Darcy because of the way you balance the good and bad. He just feels real, with his own flaws and family and values: but you also bring out the good, the reason why i love him as a character, so well. I enjoy fluffy happily ever after fics as much as the next p&p fan, but they tend to focus so heavily on his complete transformation into the perfect dreamboat that I think they tend to miss out on Darcy's actually valuable qualities.
Long, badly worded rant over! Just wanted to say that your blog is a highlight of my time spent on tumblr :)

I know I got this a few days ago, but I wanted to reply at a time when I could really express my appreciation. I've revisited it a few times because it's so nice to hear!
I have strong feelings about Austen and P&P particularly, so I doubly appreciate the compliment of seeming well-reasoned. I try!
And thanks especially about Darcy, my eternal fave. It's genuinely important to me to engage with his faults—I don't want to go for the, oh, he's just shy and puts things badly sometimes, because I think that's not true and undercuts most of his character arc. But (obviously) I don't have much patience for hostile readings that skew the mirroring between him and Elizabeth into an unbalanced thing where he has and needed a total transformation while Elizabeth makes small adjustments at most.
Even setting aside the undercutting of Elizabeth's arc, I think the transformed!!!! Darcy narrative (from The Worst into flawless dreamboat, as you say) would be much more poorly-written than an arc that shows basic consistency of character as well as growth for the better. And I've always been deeply impressed by the ways in which P&P weaves together the persistence of some flaws and quirks as well as valuable qualities he's had all along (which the novel ultimately goes out of its way to underscore) alongside his growth as a person. It's a large part of what makes his arc so compelling IMO.
And I think it's his basic pre-existing integrity and strength of character that provide the fuel for his growth—it's all tied together in a way I find admirable both in terms of personality and in terms of Austen's craft. So that's what I'm often trying to get at, and it's very gratifying to hear that I am getting it across. Thanks again!

why did you start shipping sukugojo? i am a sukugojo fan for approximately a year now, i've written many fics for them but like seeing that you're entire blog is dedicated to them, i just wanted to ask why you wanted to ship sukuna and gojo together?
i don't think i could tell u why i ship them if i'm honest. i'm the type of person of who doesn't really have reasons for shipping things haha i just see something and if it tickles my brain, then i go ooh!! i like that!!! and that would be the case for sukugo too :D they just make me happy <33
but i guess i could talk about what i think makes them a really great ship
like, the thing about sukuna and gojo is that they're strong. the strongest. both the strongest from their respective times. and that leads to a lot of fun parallels between them and their positions and their ways of being (things that are now being explored in canon!). which means that they're the only ones who truly get each other.
they're equals. and in a world where they have no equals, a life where they are at the pinnacle of everything, the lonely (and boring!) top, where no one else seems to truly get them, to truly challenge them and bring some semblance of excitement, of feeling, into their lives, but then now there's this other person who is finally finally able to give them what they want, what they need. someone who can actually contain them, give them enough to get them to their breaking point, or take enough from them and not break. it's a joyful thing!!
(and the fact that the manga directly uses the term love to make reference to that oh my god. they found love in each other. that's textual.) (i seriously went feral crazy insane when i read that anon)
i think one thing that does factor in inside my love for them is that gojo is my fave and i love breaking him and doing all kinda things to him, so i saw sukuna and it was like oh. he might be able to deal with him :)

like i love love love how their fight is just them having FUN. u can SEE the joy in their faces, u can feel it in the playful jabs, the smiles and grins. they're beaming. what a joyful thing for them to finally have found someone like that.
not to mention that they keep flirting!!!!!! every single interaction between them is loaded with sexual tension, they're all smiles and banter and sensual touches (im looking at you, gojo) (tho sukuna is very much not blame-free either). they've been like that since the first fucking moment they met like............guys we get it...... u wanna fuck, just get on with it already.

You have no idea how hands-shaking, looking-down-off-a-cliff scared I was to scroll down when Catra began to say sorry and got cut off. I had to take almost a full minute to brace myself cuz I was so afraid Glimmer would do the thing so many other protags have done where they just accept the apology for the sake of expediency or compassion or their own regrets or to focus on moving forward. Or to excuse away the apologizers actions as not their own because of manipulation or emotion. I've been waiting since Day One for this hoping it wouldn't be like those, especially considered canon didnt even attempt it and that left my love for this series feeling like it was missing a piece.
I could never expected it go this hard. Glimmer's grief and guilt and cold rage feels so tangible, and the sheer strength it feels like it took to both acknowledge and honestly deliver those feelings to Catra with no sugarcoating while not full-on attacking her with them and driving a wedge into the only refuge either of them have from Prime breaks my heart. Acknowledging Catra feels sorry but telling her flat out no apology or atonement could heal this, so if she feels sorry thats her own damn problem. A perfect interstice of emotional fortitude and frailty. I could never have dreamt of a moment this great.
Glimmer was always my fave in canon but this catapulted her into the fucking celestial firmament. The catharsis I'm feeling right now makes me feel like I could jump the goddamned moon. This moment alone is my favorite exploration of grief and forgiveness ive seen in a fandom like this since ATLA's The Southern Raiders. I cant wait to see your spin on the rest of this arc if its even a fraction this good. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this and for this project. Thank you.
This was such a hard scene to write. I'd had some ideas written down for this scene for quite a while, and we almost got a scene where they discussed what they would say to Adora instead, but I thought it would perhaps be more impactful to tackle the subject of Angella head on.
I'm not completely oblivious to the fact that many people wished Glimmer and Catra had approached the topic of what happened to Angella in canon. And again, I'd never say that this blog is a 'fix-it' for the stuff people didn't like, but sometimes there's stuff that I wish had been in the show - this was one of those things.
But knowing I wanted to put in a scene and actually writing it are two different things. I was so nervous when this one went out, because I worried that people would react negatively to it (but you didn't, thanks everyone!). You're right that having Glimmer go "Oh, sure, don't worry about it" would have felt hollow and really undercut the whole 'Angella is dead' thing. But equally, if Glimmer had said "Sorry isn't enough, I hate you and will never forgive you", it would have been hard to reconcile that level of sheer hatred with them working together later on.
I chose Glimmer's words quite carefully here. I wanted to show that her opting to take her mother's actions as one of heroic sacrifice rather than a desperate last-ditch attempt to save Etheria from Catra's mistake was for her own benefit, not Catra's. Glimmer makes that choice to discard Catra's part in it every day because that's the only way she can manage her grief (especially when face-to-face with Catra), not because she wants Catra to feel better. And that rejection of the apology was not so much a "Your apology means nothing" as it was "Don't try and complicate the way I'm dealing with this." Sorry means she has to reconcile that Catra feels guilt. Sorry upsets her grieving process. She doesn't want it.
I'm so excited for everyone to see the rest of this arc, particularly how things develop through Corridors. We'll soon be seeing Horde Prime step up his manipulation of Catra's depression, and more about how that is affecting her and driving her to desperation. But we also get those bittersweet flashbacks, the reminders that Adora has always been on her side - even when they've been on opposing sides of a war. And finally, the climax of the episode where Catra saves Glimmer, and (at least here) leaves Adora with some chilling words. I always feel like I become a better writer with every episode, and I am so proud of some of the stuff you're about to see.

@heroesbyler — my wife, my dearest, and my mike. one of my first friends in this fandom and someone that i trust so much i'd give her my social security number if she asked. stav is super intelligent (in so many ways), kind, funny, thoughtful, brave, and observant. her analyses punch me in the tit and kill me dead. she speaks clearly and with conviction. she stays true to her beliefs and doesn't say or do things just to appease the masses, which is, for whatever reason, a rarity in this fandom. a lovely person inside and out, really and truly—her kindness and empathy blows me away, and makes my heart feel all fuzzy. my mom's a big fan based on what i've told her dfjdshb. a great blog to follow if you want to take a deeper look at the characters on our screens, not just will and mike, and how all of the themes, messages, and journeys in this show reinforce each other. also if you like to laugh. :')
@miwism — mal is the most creative person i've had the honor of meeting in this fandom. super kind, super funny, and super inventive. one of the very few people that have managed to make me laugh out loud—and not just once, but repeatedly. so many posts that i'll randomly remember months later and bust out into giggles over. best fics, best art, best posts, best ideas, and best additions to your posts, too. seriously, mal, i've secretly wondered if you've ever done improv before because your ability to take an idea and expand on it is just that great. i love them, i want to hug them, and if they asked me to drop everything on a thursday to go to publix with them, i would. idec if it'd take me hours to get there, i Would and it'd be worth it. 💚
@wiseatom — just thinking about her fics makes me tear up on the spot. i've cried after reading her work multiple times, even on rereads, because a) they were so good that i felt devastated that it was over, and b) i would never experience that magical First Time Reading feeling again. thea's just overall talented out the fucking wazoo—like, it's actually insane. she's a talented writer, a talented artist, a true creative, so eloquent, so charming, and such a delight. i could never meet her irl and keep my composure because i would just be on my fan behavior without a way to turn it off. she'd try to talk to me and i'd just be staring at her dreamily like this: 😍🥹😊🥰💕.
@sayyourprayers — if nobody got me, i know they got me. 🫂 even when i think i'm being sneaky, they still know exactly what i'm talking about, which i am choosing to believe is a part of our superior warriors bond as well as them being very smart, and not just me being as easy to read as a toddler book. they're very funny and very straightforward. no bullshit whatsoever. i always read their tags and replies, and find them to be really insightful and witty. they're another individual that has their own beliefs and interpretations and doesn't change them based on what's currently popular or not. i like that, because i personally hate when shit starts sounding like an echo chamber. overall, i just really love their blog! i always, always tune in to see what they have to say and i find myself smiling whenever i see them in my notes.
@googoogagaeyes — doozy's another real one. she describes herself in her intro post as a lover and a hater and i couldn't agree more (in the best way possible, of course). i think she has a very text-focused and holistic way of tackling the show: she talks about the good, the bad, and the neutral, which i find to be refreshing and desperately needed. i always read everything she writes, whether it's in the tags or in the post itself, and either learn something, laugh, or, as is usually the case, do both. speaking of which, her analyses are always to the point and written in such a way that the reader feels respected. she doesn't drone on or fluff it up, which i appreciate. super eloquent, intelligent, and funny. very much a necessary follow if you enjoy this show and excellent commentary tbh.
@alastyearonearth — alfreddddd ✋🥺 (<- me putting my hand on the screen like the wives of soldiers at war do in dramatic movies)....... oh, alfred. if there's anyone i'm normal about, it's him 👍 (lies) (biggest lie i've ever told in my life actually) (my pants are currently on fire right now) (🚒🧯👨🚒 <- they're here to put me out). i feel like my feelings for him and his blog can be summed up by the fact that when i realized we both went on vacation at around the same time, i was ecstatic because that meant i wouldn't miss his posts. bdfhjbsdkj. he's one of the biggest brains and most generally knowledgeable people here, and it rocks my world every time he says anything. he has an appreciation for canon and the real people whose stories are represented within it that this fandom sorely, and ironically, lacks. also, while i'm on my fan behavior right now, allow me to admit that i would go through his blog sometimes for months before i finally put on my big kid pants and followed him. i'm very much not beating the parasocial allegations and tbh i think it's understandable bc Hello !!!! look at him!!!! @motherthroat — you know that andrew garfield "(you didn't know me at thirteen) i really wish i had" quote? it applies here, because i so wish i'd met him last summer. liking canon will, mike, and byler used to be so lonely and frustrating, but now it isn't anymore and that's largely because of him. if you haven't caught on by now, i like following people that are very frank, and mori's no different. he's not afraid to be bold either. i love his art, his AUs, and his takes. he's funny, treats you the way you treat him, and has a great eye for aesthetics. well. a great eye in general, i think. not to get #deep (or repetitive), but i think he sees more than he lets on, and it really comes out in his art, his headcanons, his interpretations, and the way that he speaks to people. he remembers things and really ponders them. there's a kind of carefulness there that i admire as someone with as much grace as a bull in a china shop. just a cool cat, really.
@cosmobrain00 — MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAX! (screamed the same way that will screamed for mike on halloween night). they're literally so talented that it's not even funny anymore. like, their writing is next level and the fact that we can read it for free (wtf!!!!) feels like a crime. their art is so pleasing to look at and i love their style so much. their thoughts on this show and these characters are superb, too. so passionate, so kind, and so loving—and it shows in everything they do. it's always a good time whenever they decide to share their two cents and spit some divine wisdom on us plebs, so i definitely recommend everyone check them and their content out!
@drangues — arush is literally [starts snarling and hissing and snapping and howling at the moon and other cuteness aggression-related things]. sorry, i meant to say he's so bhjfbkdsjhfbdks grrrrrrrr bark bark bark awooooooooo. just unbelievable. unreal. the blueprint. he's my cousin and my friend and my son and my stinkie squishie and also my greatest enemy and bully (he's only consented to two of these, but they're still true). seriously... arush is SO funny. his headcanons are wonderful and #real, his artwork is insanely good and creative and colorful, he's so sweet and silly, and thoughtful and merciful, too. just !!!!!! squishing his face in all ways except physical right now. if you're not following arush drangues then you deserve to get sent straight to the scorpion pit, i feel.
@givehimthemedicine — effortlessly hilarious, kind, bright, and oh so talented in a variety of ways, both creatively and intellectually. and they have the nerve to make it look easy!! like wtf!!! they're also the most likely to drop the most insane observations ever and act like they didn't just change the trajectory of your life forever. pure insanity, i say. they're my favorite blog outside of the byIer bubble and their el's first haunted house post is easily in my top three and i still giggle over it.
@mikeandwillel — when sandy speaks, i listen and take notes. simple as that. a true mike understander and knower. she's posted wonderful analyses on many topics, all of which are super concise, text-based, and show a thorough understanding of storytelling. i love hearing her thoughts on this show and her interpretation of things. i'm especially excited to see what she thinks once we start getting s5 crumbs! oh, and she also posts great edits! :D
@aemiron-main — if loving em is wrong, then i don't wanna be right. if it becomes illegal tomorrow, then call me el because my ass is going to jail asap. he's one of the kindest, funniest, most genuine people on this website. he's always open to discuss things, look at them from a different angle, and share his knowledge. i can't even say that he treats people the way they treat him, because he treats them a lot better. if anything, he's extremely merciful and forgiving lol. he has a wealth of knowledge on a multitude of subjects, an extremely keen eye, and seemingly endless creativity / an open mind. literally a modern day sherlock, but much cooler. also very resilient and tough. and an outstanding artist, too! (what can't he do, sheeeesh!). he's written analyses on what feels like everything about the show at this point, so i'd definitely recommend going through those if you haven't already.

I post a lot about transmisogyny theory. I'm no authority on the subject, I'm just a girl who's very outspoken about it. We've written perfect pairings together across fandoms since all the way back in 2005/2006 when we first started chatting. Mojito is one of the wittiest, kindest, most creative people I know and he can blow your mind with the stories you can share. One of my two fave people to hang out with online and off. He's busy af at the moment in life but he's worth the wait. I love all the muses of his that I write with, but my special faves are his Thor, his Clint, his Scott, and his Geralt. For Loki, ofc. I have faves in Jade and Nate for my pirate boy and X/Theta for my time travelling XI. Why? I'm terrible at explaining. He gets the characterisations spot on and he's willing to explore so much range with his muses.
@forevermuses Linaaaa. My love, my female bestie. You can blame her Stephen for me kicking life back into Loki's blog after I ran rampant on Jack's for a while. Lina's superb. She writes snarky, brilliant characters, delicious plots, and juicy ships. The other of my two best on and offline peeps. Now she's a multimuse I guess I have to pick favourites so it's gonna be Stephen and Peter for Loki and Norrington for Jack but extra bonus love for Sylvie and I'm excited to write more with Sherlock and Theo. Shallow reason really for why they're my favourites but Stephen and Norrington are amazing for ships and Peter is all round hilarious. She writes him with no shame.

Want to just put my grain of sand about the deleting fics situation because... IDK it's been rubbing me the wrong way since it started but I exactly didn't know what was causing that. And after seeing the responses of the post where you make the film comparison the reason just snapped at me and it's more anecdotal than factual.
I'm both a writer and a reader. My first fics were poorly written because I was a dumb teenager who saw excessively amounts of popular BL OVAs. After two years of writing in Amor Yaoi I felt... not ashamed, but I didn't want to be associated with the most poorly written fics I did. So I deleted them. No reader came to me asking for them (I actually thought about my readers because it was a tiny rarepair fandom I wrote for —and I feel the "I don't think of the readers" happens in the big fandoms only TBH) so I was at ease.
Ellipse, hiatus were I didn't write shit, I discovered AO3 and started being more interested about archiving and fandom history.
It wasn't 'til last year that my brain clicked and said to me "biiiiiiiiiiitch archive your fics on AO3 what the hell are you waiting for". I opened my Amor Yaoi account and started copy-pasting everything (unfortunately AO3 does the import thing really bad with this damn php site) and something felt off. It wasn't 'til I discovered someone on Wattpad uploaded two of my deleted fics there that I realized what the off feeling was. I don't only feel bad for all the readers that magically found me in recents years and told me "your fics were my faves!!", I don't only feel bad for the archiving fandom history aspect, I also feel bad for myself. I lost record of my own development because I was dumb-dumb enough to not made a offline copy of them (and if I did my computer died without repair nor salvation so yeih! That's a possibility). That and the fact I'd love to make fun of my own shit, I read the ones I imported to AO3 and I was laughing horribly, good job past me.
TBH I suspect I'm not the only one who realized after years what a big oopsie-doo was to delete own fics.
And like... I don't know if it's me (probs are) as I'm really bad reading tones in English, but a lot of responses to the just-sad anons felt... unnecessarily aggressive. Yes, y'all entitled to delete your fics if you want (specially if the reason behind it is harassment but TBH I didn't feel this was the reason people were arguing of) as well as the anon is entitled to feel sad (and somewhat judgy) about the deletion, but the "good thing the fic got deleted just to piss you off anon" alike responses... Man. No, thanks. If I read some parts of the discussion wrong I'd happily accept the corrections since I don't keep track of everything, but some of those responses came off as if the author's point of view is The Truly True Truth of Truths™. I suspect a lot of people didn't have that intention in mind while writing the responses, but that was how I (and probs other) felt them.
IDK, I don't have any conclusions besides the "if you delete your fic you do you, but as a concept and action I'm super against of it (as a reader, as a writer and as someone interested in fandom history who will fight to make a little course at university if possible surrounding the topic) and I'd be better if you orphan them, anonymize them in your own Anonymous collection or put them on a shady hard-to-find website only the Hackers™ will find like some Chinese dōujinshi translators do —it'd also be good to keep this suggestion in consideration: if you put somewhere 'hey I deleted this thing if y'all want a copy just ask me Somewhere™ and I'll pass it to you no problemo' as I've seen it isn't a new way to deal with this situation" one because I'm tired RN.
I expect insults for this ask, so feel free y'all. Oh, and also this is the most interesting (for me at least) discussion that had happened on this blog since the disposable plates one.

I mean I do it a tiny bit for Carina, but my Italian is severely limited to 1.5 classes of undergrad. Otherwise, unless there's randomly a German speaking character I'll write for in the future... I don't like doing it.
