I think I wouldn't even care so much if the way people criticized Mitch wasn't always so strangely personal and almost demeaning? Fine, if it's actual criticism of his on-ice play but he gets psycho-analyzed in a way I've never seen before, and the terms that get thrown against him are almost misogynistic in nature? It's actual criticism of his on-ice play but it's always splicing it when you point out no, actually, Mitch leads the team in playoff points, no, actually, Mitch got the game-winner on the only game this team has won in the second round in twenty years, no, actually, he was not the one who should have been covering Pastrnak on that goal and you just think he shouldve been because he noticed no one was there, etc etc etc. Like I have a popular post going around Right Now about mitch not being able to grow a playoff beard but people look at that -- they look at him -- and see weakness, femininity, a myriad of traits to be demonized and done with !! In my autistic opinion, people who think that media literacy is a cure all to misunderstandings forget that a story is a two way conversation and the onus is on the storyteller to communicate in a way their reader will hear. If someone has to read your mind to understand your story, that’s poor writing.

like i see people say stuff like “rei is a deconstruction of the idea of like the perfect girl in a male gaze-y way” and and i'm ready to agree until they go “it’s because she’s creepy and weird and bad!” like no. rei's a deconstruction of misogynistic ideas of womanhood because they’re ideals forced upon her that damage her, not because she’s in any way “creepy”. like, the fact she’s a fourteen year old girl who was basically used as a substitute wife by her father bc she looked like his own dead wife is not something that is meant to make rei look bad like holy shit.
like both rei and asuka are very obviously like. showing fantasised and misogynistic ideas of an idealised woman don’t work irl yeah. shinji's misogynistic view of them is wrong. but that’s not because rei and asuka are bad people it’s because like. “fourteen year old who's flirty and seductive” and “fourteen year old who's a quiet obedient object” are major signs of abuse and trauma and anyone actually acting in those ways at that age clearly isn’t normal. asuka is desperate for attention in any way she can get it, even unhealthy and dangerous ways. rei is at the very least I has a weird pseudo-incestous enmeshment filled abusive relationship with her father, even if she's not actively being sexually abused. asuka is seeking support, rei is a grooming victim. these are not things that are flaws in their character the entire point of subverting the expectations is to show how those expectations are unhealthy to rei and asuka like. god.

Shout out to the person who once told me that it was "most likely" Henry V was straight because modern population data suggests an ever-so-graciously rounded down 90% of the population is straight and Occam's Razor and all that. This. This, my friends. This right here proves two things:
First, Luffy is okay with being used as a dress-up doll as long as it’s his friends doing it, maybe even likes it/has fun with it (as can be seen from his smile), and doesn’t have any problems with makeup or his makeup or hair being done. It shows that he usually wears simple clothing for the simple reason that he simply doesn’t care and that it’s more practical but wouldn’t be opposed to dressing up as can also be seen in some of the movies. So people who criticise fanart of Luffy dressed up can just shut up. It also shows he doesn’t have any general aversion to stuff that is often considered girly or feminine like makeup or long braids (though of course anyone can wear makeup or long hair or dresses or whatever they like and feel comfortable with) and the scene on Amazon Lily with the frills on his shirt was simply because he thinks specific things are cool or not or fit into what he has been told is cool or “manly” (if his friends told him frills are cool he probably wouldn’t have a problem with them either) and not because he thinks being feminine and/or female is not cool. So people who call Luffy misogynistic for whatever reason just stop, think about what you’re saying and if you still don’t see how it’s wrong just go to a far away corner to talk to the fucking wall.
And secondly, his hair stretches as well. His hair stretches long enough for people to be able to MAKE IT INTO A BRAID THAT REACHES DOWN TO HIS CHEST!!! Think about that. And then if you’re an artist go make me some fanart of Luffy with long braids thx.
