ok, the stages in which noir get drunk are: slightly drunk, giggly, undergoing a midlife crisis, lovesick, and sleepy

the slightly sober stage is the stage when noir should really stop drinking. i headcanon that it doesn't take him long to get drunk, like maybe... 3 to 4 shots, and he's entering the slightly drunk stage. he kinda dissociates when he's in this stage, like miguel in the drunk miggy headcanons, he kinda goes quiet and speaks only when spoken to, but it's a whole lotta gibberish that comes out of his mouth instead of coherent words. he'd look like he's staring into space, when actually he's just focusing on how fuzzy the world looks like right now as the liquor is settling in. past this point, you are now entering the harder than manageable peter parker drunk.

his giggly stage is when he's had a couple more than 3 to 4 shots, and he laughs his ass off at the most out of context shit ever. like he sees a little fly on the table and he just chuckles to himself because the liquor is making him think, "oh shit, what a funny fly, it's not purple." and when he's told a joke he laughs THE FUCK out of it, even minutes after the joke was said, he's still laughing about it to the point of tears. if he remembers the joke, he'll laugh about it randomly and not explain at all because he forgets soon after what he was laughing at, like, "wait, haha, why am i, hah, laughing again?" his smile when he's drunk is so fucking precious though

after the laughing fit, he enters the depressing midlife crisis stage. he rambles and mumbles a lot to himself about how shitty his life has been, how he wishes uncle benjamin wasn't... you know, how he really regrets being distant and aloof towards a lot of people he's loved in his life and how he can never catch a break with all the horribleness in his life. he cries during this stage, but it's a quiet kind of crying. like he sniffles a little but when he cries, by default, he isn't loud. he must've learned how to cry without attracting so much attention, because it's only when you pay attention to the right details, his eyes, his nose turning red, his lips quivering, and the small sounds he makes when sobbing that you realize he was crying this whole time.

but after sobbing for a little while, if he's still drinking, his hormones change from the sad and depressing ones to the "i need to be held and to hold someone right now" hormones in the lovesick stage. if you're really close to peter, he'd kinda get a little handsy and talkative, still stuttering gibberish. he'd just go on and on and on about how purple is a pretty color but every color on you is by far the prettiest colors he has ever and will ever witness. he incessantly asks if he can hold your hand or hug you, he just wants to feel your warmth because the alcohol makes him feel colder. when you agree to hug him, omg, you are never going to be let go by him, i swear. like MAN HAS A TIGHT GRIP, EVEN WHEN DRUNK. but he holds you with the intent of making you feel loved, not pained nor burdened, just a gentle reminder he loves you. he gets a little giggly here too, but that's only because he's so happy he's with you right now and you didn't reject him, 'cause if you did, he'd be back in the midlife crisis stage.

I really wanted to reign myself in and NOT send you an ask this morning but OMG the house of night anon!!! I used to love those books (like, the first three or so before they turned really, really bad) because I’m nothing if not a slut for shitty vampire novels and we only get the more popular ones translated here :D

Morpheus would look soooo gorgeous with a half moon mark on his forehead? Fits amazingly well into the whole grumpy emo/goth vibe he’s got going on. (Technically it should be an outline but as the anon said, the protagonist progresses really fast and instead of years it takes months for the half moon to fill in. I think there was a prophecy involved? It’s been a while)

Anyway, the thing that kept me invested in the books way longer than I thought they were any good was the whole magic aspect? Like, they’re doing proper magic rituals and the potential for horny professor!Hob and student!Dream shenanigans is just too good to pass up?

iIrc you need five people for a proper circle in this universe, but let’s skip that to the kind professor secretly helping Morpheus out with magic rituals to figure out just why he’s special. This means late night meetings in the library, sneaking around on campus for clandestine strategy discussions and finally the rituals in the middle of the night.

The binding circle on the ground glows with magic, the bowls that house representations of the elements are vibrating, it looks like morpheus and Hob are hovering over the ground as they speak the incantations. They are granted insight, a future where Morpheus has survived the initial months and where he’s fighting something-

The vision breaks suddenly and Morpheus is back to reality and in Hob’s arms. Hob’s shaking him because he was just levitating and bleeding and he was so worried about him.

Part 1.

So, in order for Sam to take custody of Tara, she needs to petition the courts. She has to prove she's a suitable guardian! And well, she's not. She's got a criminal record, a history of drug use. She's got a life-altering mental health condition that rears its head in the worst way if she misses even a single dose. She works a shitty minimum-wage job and lives in a one-bedroom apartment. The girls aren't even acquainted. Ordinarily, this would be an open-and-shut no. Except... Sam has come into a lot of money with her parents' deaths, they both owned property, they both had substantial savings. And there's the question of how did this happen? After all, how could a child be born undetected, how did no one notice this child never went to school, how did she end up back with her mother, why was there no one watching the family from the beginning? Tara's social worker gets Sam in touch with a lawyer, and Sam sues a whole lot of people for gross negligence and failure to safeguard.

They give her custody.

Sam can't say her reasons are entirely altruistic, the situation comes with a life-changing amount of money. And a life-changing discovery as she clears out what used to be her home. Turns out her mother really was the absolute worst, all her life. She keeps it to herself.

Sam finds this parenting thing is much easier than she worried it would be. Feed the kid, make sure she's clean and clothed and safe. Take her to doctor's appointments, and social worker check-ups, and refill her inhaler prescription. And, ok, Sam knows there’s more to parenting than this, but it’s also the only thing she can do for the kid. Sam sleeps on the couch while she finds them somewhere new to live, and the kid spends most of her time curled up in a blanket under the bed. She tries not to react to the weird things she does, or the way she flinches if she shuts the door a little too rough. She tries not to wonder if this could have been her if she hadn’t been removed when she was.

The girl isn’t ready to be around others, but they tell her she needs an education, so Sam gets her a tutor, who also functions as a babysitter. It takes 3 months before Tara stops shaking when Sam goes to leave her with the sitter. That very first day had taken her by surprise. In the 5 months she had been with her, the girl had kept to herself, stayed quiet and out of reach. That day, Tara had attached herself to her leg and began to cry and Sam got to hear her speak for the very first time: no nonono no please no. She had to call off work sick that day to calm her down. Things changed after that. Tara became clingy.

Where previously she would watch Sam from afar with furrowed brows and suspicion (and sometimes even anger, she thinks), now she constantly hovers nearby. She’s always watching. She’ll willingly slip her hand into hers when they’re out and about. She crawls into her bed at night and sleeps at the foot, near but not touching. (The first morning after they moved, Sam nearly had a heart attack when she went to check on her sister and found the room empty. The girl was in her favourite place to be, under Sam’s bed.) Sam wonders why she ever sprung for a two-bed in the first place, then remembers, oh yeah, the social workers. Tara can still be taken back from her at any time, and she’s got to admit, she’s gotten used to having her around.

Tara’s a week from 14 when she makes Sam cry for the first time. Sam had been ranting – Tara had been so irritating lately, leaving her possessions where Sam would trip over them, being lazy, refusing to clean up after herself – and Sam couldn’t take it anymore. Mid-lecture, the girl screams at her to shut up and pushes her. It doesn’t hurt, she barely even budges, but the act feels so meaningful. Tara’s anger fades in an instant, apologies flying off her tongue, and Sam just pulls her in and hugs her tight. She’s so happy her sister feels safe enough with her to lash out and not fear the consequences. A week later she presents her with adoption papers for her birthday. It won’t change much for them, but the way Tara throws herself into her arms and says I love you for the first time tells Sam all she needs to know. She wonders how she almost passed on this.

Anyone else annoyed with the foreshadowing stuff for team black using the team green stuff. I mean im annoyed...(I feel like I'm in the minority but i want to tell still...you can ignore this if it is dumb)

1. Why are they making a big deal out of creepy!viserys refusing milk of poppy and sticking it out for his "only child" when in the books he is just obese and goes out that way. I'm annoyed coz this is aegons main plot point and was the few things i liked about him (his bond with sunfyre was another) : that he wants to be there for his family and milk of poppy numbed his senses so much that he lost so many and doesn't want to lose the remaining people he has by being unconscious eventhough he is in severe pain.

2. Vhagar roared and was super pissed when aemond lost his eye: they just ignored that and when rhaenyra gave birth to visenya they put a scene for her (which to me did not look aesthetically in place/ bad cgi maybe?), when it is known that syrax-rhaenyra bond is not that special...syrax even killed her son (i think the show will ignore and change this 🙄)

3. Laenas death scene: why the hell did they put that dumb "i want a dragonriders death by burning alive"??? No one says so in the books. It was the worst thing especially since she is a black woman in the show and they kill her violently and in the books where she is a white woman she has such a beautiful scene with her husband. Why can't they let her have a peaceful scene like that? Of course i feel it is to show rhaenyra in the end when she gets eaten/burnt (which i think they'll change to burn only) it will be some badass great awe inspiring scene. I dont like that they take away daemon/laenas love and treat laena horribly without thinking about the racial connotations. I can't believe ppl liked the change. (I know she's not green but still I want to talk about it)

Why can't the showrunners read and stick to the books and not take away the little goodstuff that the greens have and give to the blacks? Sorry for the rant.

Omg, anon, if you are still around, I am sooooo sorry. I started to answer this the day you sent it, stuck it in my drafts, and completely forgot about it.

It definitely does seem that way, that they transferred some of Aegon's book plot to Viserys. I definitely think they are going to dumb down Aegon's injuries and have it not be as bad as it is in the book. Especially since Viserys rotting away was not in the book. And it's fascinating to me with how shitty of a father they made Viserys when in the book he actually does give a flying fig about his other children, Helaena is particularly close to him and brings the babies to visit him all the time, while in the show they transferred that over to where she brings the babies to Alicent instead.

I will forever be ticked off they cut Vhagar having a fit when Aemond had his eye cut out. And it's really interesting to me how the show laid it on thick that Rhaenyra and Daemon have perfect bonds with their dragons and Syrax feels Rhaenyra's pain, but we didn't see Sunfyre at all and Aegon's bond with him was supposed to be incredible, the same with Dreamfyre and Helaena, and the time we see adult Aemond with Vhagar, he loses control over her.

Laena's death was terrible. That was not empowering, and anyone who thinks so is weird. Her death in the book was...idk, for lack of a better word, soft. Laena's life in the book was much happier and much more fullfilled. She was able to travel around with her family, visit Driftmark, have two beautiful babies, had her bestie Rhaenyra coming to see them all the time. Her death was heartbreaking because she wasn't able to get to Vhagar for one last ride. But it wasn't that garbage that the show produced.

I totally understand the frustration! It definitely makes me nervous about season 2, since we are heading into the first huge battles of the war, and new characters being introduced. My witch queen Alys is on the way and I am soooo concerned they are gonna make her a secret black or something. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that they are going to stick closer to the book this go-around since Ryan Condal seems to be a huge book fan. And GRRM is supposedly (just a rumor I heard) going to be in the writers' room as well. But honestly, my biggest worry is time. They still have shitloads of material to go thru and the showrunners seem determined to wrap this up in four seasons and season 2 is ALREADY 2 hours shorter. That is a immense concern of mine.

next on the list is raevil, aka the dead women walking! raevil = twice, and you can't prove me wrong!! the fact that each member comes from a different country just goes well with the public ( international more than domestic, bc we all know how knetz are about these types of things ), and they for sure know how to charm people to at least listen to their songs occasionally. their popularity grew as time passed, so raevil being on the same scale as twice right now would be a plausible answer!

when I got into fandom also given what numbers were on ao3 one ship was popular and it was sansan. no like sansan was lit. the only asoiaf ship on ao3 with more than 200 fics. jb had twenty when i checked first. jc had like around 100-ish because of the show but sansan dwarfed anything. I posted the first jon/ygritte fic on the ao3 tag and the fourth throbb fic and like the others were all reposts from lj kinkmemes. nothing was popular before the show except for sansan when it comes to huge numbers bc grrm doesn't like fic and it was all hush hush until the show made it impossible to control and that ship was the one with a huge enough fanbase it actually had numbers, so like... j*nsa wasn't popular in the way nothing else was popular until it got screentime on the show

now, that stated, j*nsa had a... fair amount of fic for a rareship which was mostly book-based and from og shippers that were there from before the show and liked it for what it was but literally none of them thought it was gonna be canon, like it wasn't huge or anything but it had a small but dedicated fanbase who did their own thing and thought it was fun/liked the idea but that was it

that fandom had their own niche of hcs that they cultivated and shit except that like... at the end of S5/beginning of S6 there was a surge in shipping for... well obvious reasons bc it was obv sansa was getting to the wall and that would have been all nice and good but a) it was the time puritanical shipping was starting to take root and the 'shipping sansa with sandor or tyrion is hella problematic' rhetoric had started to circle coming from sans*ery shippers mostly but I'mma not open that fucking can of worms here, b) while the ending of S5 had more of a theon/sansa spike, the j*nsa stuff started getting big

now here we have to mention my villain origin story ie: j*nsa fandom had this one stan whose name I won't make because honestly it's been years and if she's still around I don't want her to remember I exist who was a bnf, wrote for... the website that created the whole larry/carol thing etc who was really fixed on this thing that j*nsa was actually canon and started writing extremely popular meta about it. now you're gonna ask how do you know, I know because this person once wrote a meta named 'why robb stark is a dick' and I told her that it was really fucking bad meta and she took it so badly she kept on trash talking me on her blog/her podcast (I was apparently the insane robb stark fangirl l m a o good lord) and like that was when some sane ppl who argued with her informed me in pvt that she was basically harping on the CANON thing when they'd have been okay with like... it being crackshipping and that she was basically cultivating a hoarde of followers who were harping on them/the ogs and basically ostracizing them;

I would like to add that this person - before her tumblr got 'accidentally deleted' and remade it therefore deleted most receipts for, er, her so-called meta which included stuff like ned and cat raised sansa as a sexual object and only wanted to sell her like cattle - had at some point started a round robin fic thing where... some of the characters mocked openly said stuff that some of the og fans had said specifically targeting them and people in that side basically went harassing anyone who didn't agree with that specific notion

there were also instances of 'well theon is an acceptable choice other than jon bc he can't threaten her' which... i mean we all know what that meant and I'm not even commenting it bc it's one AM and I have no force to but I don't have to explain why it's not a progressive take now do I

there were also metas about how cousin incest being legal in half of the world means that jondany is a worse incest and j*nsa doesn't count as such and I was basically there like guys please just fucking own up to it but honestly I chose to forgot where I read that and I couldn't find the link if I tried

tldr: no one wants to admit that it's not gonna be endgame which considering the amount of fic they have on ao3 is imvho useless bc they have more content than like.. anything I ship that's not jb or that's actually like canon *cries in joncon/rhaegar but I mean renly/loras is canon and has less fic than them* so idk what's the problem with enjoying that instead of insisting it's gonna be canon when not even the show validated it while show truthing anyway when the only show truthing that can be truthed is the small council made of minorities and possibly jon eventually fucking off with the wildlings but not like that but like most people who thought it wasn't gonna be endgame had left/were made to leave by the time S7 rolled by and at this point since wow isn't out yet everyone is fandom-grasping at straws to find stuff to discourse on and we're here beating dead horses *shrug*

so that's... how it is but I would again like to point out that I don't judge ppl on their shipping, I don't particularly care about this entire feud bc I only ship jon with ppl he's not related to in whichever way and I try to stay out of this mess bc I don't really care to argue with ppl who have already decided to bend canon to whatever they want and will have to realize that it's not what grrm wrote at some point but like I have a very good memory and the above rant is as objective as possible also bc again I don't literally have a stake in that race I just think romantic/endgame j*nsa is not a thing and that ppl should stay in their lane and not harping on other ppl who ship whatever in general but especially when their ship is the most popular thing in fandom in the first place /two cents

Generally, I really enjoyed the book as well. In some ways, it was my favorite of SJM’s books. I know that some hardcore Nessian lovers had issues with it, but I wouldn’t consider myself one (hardcore, that is) so I think I was satisfied with most of it.

Loved:

I LIKED the relationship. I know people didn’t feel like there was enough romance, enough talking, enough relationship-y stuff, but I felt that it all worked with the characters. I can’t imagine Nesta and Cassian having prolonged, soul-baring conversations, I just can’t. She is not a talker, and for her to reveal her emotions, even to him, would just be very OOC. She freaked out over the mate talked, after being mated!! I don’t know if he can formulate things verbally either. So to me, getting jealous of her and Eris, of him going through all the trouble of creating the Symphonia for her, him actually being patient with her, supporting her ideas about the Valkyrie, about the priestesses training--ALL of that to me, is LOVE. I think you can talk about love, but you can also ‘do’ love, and he ‘did’ love, with his actions, rather than words.

People hated the hike, for example, and I loved the hike. I loved the fact that he realized the she needed to hit rock bottom, internally, and he allowed her to do that. And then he listened and gave her himself and his attention when she needed it most. Yes, he walked in silence with her, but even if it was brutal, that is what she needed. She needed to come to terms with her self-hate, and there was nothing he or anyone else could do until she did that for herself. So he stayed with her, and gave her that space, and then stepped it when she was ready.

Liked:

Valkyrie plot was interesting, though I want to see it realized further. I am also struggling with the idea that all these sheltered priestesses will suddenly rise up and become warriors. So we’ll see. I think we are in infant stages right now.

I liked peeking into the Blood Rite, but I didn’t feel that it was intense enough. I guess based on earlier descriptions, I felt it should’ve been more brutal, fraught with even more dangers, most struggles. Like, honestly, if only 9 people in HISTORY could complete it, and if Cassian needed to HELP Rhys to get to the stone, it had to be pretty harrowing. I didn’t feel it in the description, and the fact that Emerie won it (good for her!), but totally unrealistic.

I am curious about Eris’s subplot, so I want to see where that goes.

For some reason, I liked the trip to the Prison. It was interesting to read, interesting to hear all these tidbits of info, Lanthys, Nesta being a badass and protecting Cassian (see, that’s love too!)

Disliked:

Shit villain. SJM’s villains are usually craptastic, but this one was super extra crispy crappy. Like I don’t even know what the point was. Should’ve just developed Koschei a lot more, made him a more compelling baddie with a 2 book build up, instead of wasting a whole book on that pointless queen.

Amren. Kind of an asshole all around, with bad ideas, and worse attitude. High King? NOOOOOO.

Hated:

OMG, the pregnancy. I can’t even. If I start, it will be a 7K word essay and I don’t think anyone needs that. One point thought that bothered me tremendously is the IC, in its entirety, going along with Rhys’s order not to tell her. Now, if they were just friends, it would be shitty, but ultimately, it’s a “couple” business and there is that. BUT. But they ALL took an oath to protect Feyre. She is their High Lady. So knowing that she will likely die, and not doing anything about it, keeping it a secret from was so unbearably disloyal, dishonest and disrespectful. Both Cassian and Mor raised a HUGE fuss with Feyre before, about keeping secrets from them, about how they swore to protect her, and blah, blah. Well, what happened? Rhys gives an order and they all listen without questioning? It didn’t sit well with me at all.

Nesta apologizing to Amren. Amren? ugh, fuck off.

Feyre, with all her powers suddenly becoming a housewife, who literally does nothing with her time but sits in her studio. I get that it was a Nesta book, but I wanted to see something from Feyre. Because for 2 books now, she does nothing but paints and decorates and cries. Like what is she? How is she a High Lady? What does she do?

Nesta being super petulant about people ‘choosing’ Feyre over her. It was badly written, and silly.

Rhys just being a dick to everybody--Feyre, Nesta, Cassian, Az, Elain by extension. He just sits behind his big desk and lords over everyone.

anyway boy’s working on his like phd or smth in literature idk what genre you can insert whatever you want but he loves books + has no money bc he’s a ~phd candidate~ so he works part time at this little bookstore that really looks like it’s on the verge of being shut down bc it’s so small but chan absolutely fucking loves it there like??? it’s aesthetic as fuck and cozy and the old couple who owns the store thinks of him like he’s their second grandson (which minho, the actual grandson, complains about every time he comes to visit - grandparents are just like ‘chan helps around here more than you do you ungrateful child’ and then minho secretly trips chan behind one of the bookshelves but it’s all in good fun i swear) and all in all chan is just in love with his job and even if he sometimes goes nuts working on his theses and whatnot he wouldn’t trade this for anything in the world which is why when he learns that the bookstore is about to go bankrupt and some huge shitty company wants to buy it off he’s like. i’m going to save this place if it’s the last thing i do (tell me chan wouldn’t. that’s right you’re fucking wrong and i’m right)

enter you, the child of an influential arrogant asshat of a politician who wanted you to go into like politics or whatever and you said ok i’ll become a lawyer SO I CAN TAKE YOUR SHITTY LAWS AND BILLS TO COURT BC YOU’RE AN ASSHOLE anyway you’re kinda known in the community for your pro bono work + activism and so you happen to stumble by the bookstore on a day off and chan is an absolute blessing and you kinda offhandedly remark that you’d like to stay here forever and chan just. the smile just kinda drops off his face and he’s like. well it might not be here much longer bc reasons and this FIRES YOU THE FUCK UP bc if there’s anything you like to do it’s promoting small business against large corporations and you’re like. here’s my card call me if you’re ever in need of a lawyer to represent you or just want someone to help build this place back up bc you know people + people like you and then you leave with like. a bag full of books and chan’s just staring out the door open-mouthed and the couple has to remind him to close his mouth or flies will get in KSDJGHSKDJGHKG

ANYWAY

it takes a lot of fucking work and sleepless nights and chan learns more about the law than he ever wanted to but even though he gets even more stressed because he has a dissertation to defend in a matter of months in the end he doesn’t regret a single thing bc it’s so fucking awesome to watch you work and stand up for what you believe in and in general be a good fucking human being despite your absolute asshat of a parent and at one point your parent swings around and is like stop wasting your life but like. in politician speak and you just fire back with don’t tell me how to live my life, it’s going to be more fulfilling than yours and chan’s like. you don’t have to fuck up your family relationship for me and you just scoff and say our relationship’s been fucked up since my parent chose money over morals and that’s when chan knows he’s fucking in love like oh my GOD he’s head over heels

culminates after a hugely successful book sale in which it feels like you got the entire city to crowd into the bookstore and buy books ! and chan is just over the moon bc his favorite bookstore is going to be saved and you’re beaming bc chan is so happy and the old couple is looking over like oh my gosh they’re so cute kiss kiss kiss and and yeah after a week of successful sales you and chan go to a restaurant to celebrate and when you walk out after dinner you kiss him on the lips and he goes beet red under the street lamps like his ears are flaming and you’re just grinning bc omg you just kissed the guy you’ve been in love with for months and chan’s crying inside bc omg the person he’s been in love with for months just kissed him and yeah it’s the start of a beautiful lovely relationship.

chan successfully defends his thesis and gets his phd and you roll up to celebrate immediately afterward

you get introduced to minho and suddenly chan regrets existence as you both clown him for everything stupid he’s ever done

the old couple upstairs adopts you as an honorary grandchild too and minho throws a little bitch fit but you shove him into a bookshelf so it’s all good

it’s v cute v sweet you two are the ultimate power couple and everyone you meet is in awe of your combined existence (minho included even though he won’t admit it) and yeah. it’s lovely.

As for Bachelor...

(under the cut. I've come back to add it because I'm only at Ivan/Aaron/Chelsea and I've already typed too much)

This episode mostly sucked, I won't lie. It was three hours and around the two hour mark, the Bach bff and I called it quits because one, we are too old for this drama, and two, it was awful. We watched the last hour this morning.

Let's get the worst of it out of the way: Aaron/Ivan/Chelsea. Oooh boy do I probably have *too much* to say about this. Aaron is too aggressive. his reaction was too aggressive, he acts like he owns the women he is with and if they go off with someone else, he throws a tantrum like a baby. (We'll get to what he does at the end of the ep later, but spoilers: he's a fucking hypocrite). He makes this whole deal about Chelsea and Ivan, despite the fact that the only thing he has to say about Chelsea is "she's sweet".

As for Ivan in this, he lied. Super shitty move, he was absolutely trying to cover his ass. He was also clearly trying to get a rose from Chelsea because he wanted to stay to see if Alexa came on. I get it. That's sort of how Paradise works. Shitty, but like... again, we need to add the perspective of "this is a reality show with a competitive aspect".

Now, the part I absolutely hated and left a bad taste in my mouth is what happened with the stuff from the hotel. (Side bar, when you guys ask for my thoughts, are you watching the episodes? Or do you just enjoy me screaming into the abyss about people and situations you have never heard of??)

The way they pulled Ivan off to the side, the way they edited that, I was expecting something so much worse. Because let's be real, the amount of men on this show that have some secret history of sexual assault - there was even a season of Paradise that was almost cancelled because of sexual assault ON THE SHOW. They 100% had me thinking Ivan assaulted someone or something equally as bad with the way they handled that and I did not like it. And as for what he did? This fuckin show treats people "circumventing the system" like a war crime. All he did was go talk to a girl who was supposed to be a future contestant for a few hours while they had to hide in a hotel for a night because of a storm. And they make him go stand at the front of the class and apologize??? Ridiculous.

But Ivan did sort of suck this episode. I felt like Tyra Banks. Where's that gif.

And now for the payoff: after that HUGE FIT Aaron threw, after Ivan leaves, after Chelsea gives Aaron her rose, Aaron then immediately goes and kisses Tia at the prom. What a hypocrite. My theory is that kissing Tia was the closest he'll ever get to kissing James, which is what he really wants.

(OMG. what is with this fucking app. I just lost like 3 paragraphs of typing. OOOOOOH boY TUMBLR. I guess let me try to recreate it??)

Noah & Abigail: I feel like Noah spent the whole of Paradise waiting for Abigail to not be... well, Abigail. He tells her over and over she needs to open up. Then he says he’s falling in love with her and she has zero reaction and I think that was it for him. He gave up. I get why she was hurt & felt like he did a 180 on her, but I also completely understand him realizing that they were not going to work.

I like most of the rest of the couples, nothing too major to report. I’m even trying to like Anna because I want good things for James, but she was such a bitch on Matt’s season that I can’t quite get there.

There are previews of Kendall coming back next week, which just infuriates me. It might just be that she’s back to give some sort of sage advice or give Joe her blessing (like remember when they edited Andi coming on Nick’s season like it was gonna be this big drama but she was just there to give him advice?). But if she’s there to try and win him back again, I will scream.

I feel like I’ve missed something, especially since half this post got erased, but oh well. I’m tired now lmao

Also they dropped the shit about her birth dad, which was the catalyst of shit and then no resolution! It was misery porn at times. I do agree with what you said about Lola and I loved that angry little girl. She reminded me of me. But I’ve also gone to enough therapy to get to that point because lord knows if I saw a character like her when I was younger I would have HATED her. But sometimes characters reflect things about you that you’d rather not see and it makes you uncomfortable. But I was like omg this girl is lowkey destructive and has gone through so much shit, the fact that she’s even alive is a triumph, and I can’t wait to see where it goes. I fully didn’t agree with introducing so many awful things with no resolution, but I still loved Lola at the core of it. And I also fully agree that if Lola were a dude?? Oh gosh the amount of hot takes that would’ve been in the tag about how she’s just misunderstood and that she’s just gone through so much and that’s why the way she is would’ve been multiples by a 1000. There were people like you who were doing that but not as many that was warranted. It was the ✨double standards✨ and ✨sexism✨for me when I was in the tag at that time lol just the amount of people justifying Lucas’ behavior over Lola’s, when tbh I love that guy with my whole heart, but the writers sometimes didn’t even give him a reason and it was infuriating to see people come to his defense so ardently and basically say yeah fuck Lola 😶

hell yeah anon what an excellent take ! I absolutely think people reacted very strongly to Lola because she’s a side of us that is difficult to see. I mean...a lot of people have self-destructive urges ! She’s so blatant about it and that makes her easy to hate. She doesn’t hide the ugly shit like many people do. She is the part of us that is sensitive and hurt and won’t be quiet about it even though that would be easier. She is uncomfortable to watch in a society that teaches women to suffer in silence, and I think that was absolutely the point. And yeah. Her being alive - she is so strong through it all.

And misery porn is absolutely right, especially that mess of a second to last episode, it was complete overkill.

And yeah, double standards. I mean i totally understand not liking Lola for personal reasons, because she reminds you of bad experiences, because the writing was unsatisfying, etc etc, but that’s something different from a lot of what i saw. And yeah ! Lucas is a boneheaded, impulsive, insecure jerk at times, and that’s also part of what makes him such a well rounded character ! I love that about him, even when it makes him super annoying ! And i also think it should be possible to praise a female character’s less flattering sides for their complexity without being told I am an apologist for shitty behavior (which some people actually told me, i am not joking).

Long anon has thoughts and I’m here to reply but also I’m fucking wasted

Okay, different anon, but I love giving unsolicited advice (joking, joking... kind of), so I had to chime in. Plus I think I’ve read RtL like 2 or 3 times in full now (way more if you count all the times I’ve read a chapter because of the sex scene and then just kept reading after that), so I’m very invested. God you’re better than me. I didn’t mind chapter 30. It wasn’t my personal favorite scene (that’s just really not my jam, if I wanna revel in the angst, I prefer the later chapters), but with some tweaks I do think it was a good addition. Like, it did give the relationship a little more, I’m not sure if this is the right word, respectability? Realism? Weight? It showed that they’re not just clouded by lust or the honeymoon phase. Which is where I get into the conflict of fanfic imagine writing vs fiction writing. Most fanfic readers seem like they don’t want the plot and the character growth and the realism. The point is fantasy. I can do that short-term, but in a long-haul series like this…angst is necessary. Tension is necessary. Their relationship doesn’t exist in this perfect little bubble, it’s “perfect” because they’re really compatible, and that’s even more important than love in a longterm relationship. It showcased how much Brendon is devoted to his work, which is one of the reasons the reader loves him, but it has the real possibility of causing real issues that they need to address and work through. Now, again, it needs a little work. I don’t love that B basically accused the reader of being intentionally malicious, and I also don’t love that she was more of the victim rather than it being a two-way conflict. I think it could’ve had more of a build-up (I know you said you sort of wrote this without a plan so it makes sense that the build-up wasn’t as much as I think it needed to be, but, hey, that’s the beauty of rewriting it.) and oh rewriting it will be a thing eventually. Like she doesn’t love that he’s overworking and she brings it up a few times throughout like 3 to 5 chapters before nationals, and it sort of gradually goes from the reader going, “hey I think your hyperfocus on your job is starting to affect both your quality of life and our relationship” (obviously in a way that’s more writer-y and less information dump-y lol) to “I’m starting to feel like a toy you play with when you’re interested and completely ignore when you have homework.” And then Brendon’s responses starting at, “oh I’m sorry, babe, I’ll manage my time a bit better,” all the way to, “why don’t can’t you respect my career?” Then in chapter 30, it all comes to a head and they full on fight instead of the previous semi-passive-aggressive communication they had before. I like you; you understand what my brain is trying to do with this rewrite.

ALL OF THAT BEING SAID, as much I think fighting and arguing can be healthy and necessary, I HATED the fight in chapter 19 (at least I think it’s 19. The one where he’s like, “just talk to him, you’re being crazy”). No it’s totally bullshit I hate it too; even writing it I was like ughhhh. I love your work and I don’t want to be rude, but this is just how I feel about one chapter in an otherwise beloved series. It’s not rude; that was jammed in there for the plot and god I hated it then and I hate it now it’s just bad writing. It’s that I just think it was so out of character, for both of them to some extent, but especially Brendon it was. Maybe it’s just the reader projecting her ex onto Brendon when she’s feeling distressed, so that’s why he seems SO different from the way he was in previous chapters (hell, even earlier in that chapter no it took a sharp left turn it’s a bad chapter) and than every other chapter afterward which okay can we agree Chapters 18-26 are whaaaat is happening and 27-31 are ?? and 32 is steamy forgiveness and then 33-36 are smut but so little plot and…oh god I have so much to rewrite I’m gonna cry but he’s so fiercely passionate and protective over, not just the reader, but sort of everything that he cares enough to invest time into (teaching, music, the reader, lovemaking 😏😂, etc.) that don’t think he would’ve proposed talking to the ex at all, much less become all cold and calculating and downright rude when talking to her. I almost think it would be more realistic if she said, offhandedly, “maybe I’ll just talk to him, try to get rid of him, give him some money, I just want this over with,” and Brendon AT THAT POINT would be like, “no absolutely not, you’re being crazy/irrational .” And then it would turn into a big fight because the reader not only feels condescended and invalidated, she’s starting to feel controlled and smothered, which in conjunction with all the feelings that have been brought up with the ex in town, makes her feel like she just needs to get away from B. I guess that wouldn’t have the same effect later on at the end with the lockdown drill which I really want to cut, good lord Cece it was so extra wtf (full disclosure: at the time of writing, the school where I was a teacher had an active shooter in the area but not on campus, so I was probably processing that?? See my note below about writing as therapy), but it would still kind of work. Instead of B realizing that the reader was right about the ex, it would be the reader realizing that B really just cares for her wants what’s best for her, and ofc B would have to apologize for saying that the reader’s crazy because that’s sooo shitty. Actually, now that I think about it, that might be more effective. Other than that one argument, there wasn’t a big question of whether or not B respected the reader and her judgment, but with the ex showing up, the reader was getting scared about being in another serious relationship and being so dependent on someone else oh definitely. Doesn’t help I was using writing as my therapy since I was very out of a mentally abusive six-year relationship. I just peppered in my own trauma left and right (drunk Cece put left and write at first lmao) and left the characters to figure it out and that’s not fair to y’all so it would be much better narratively to confirm to the reader that she can trust Brendon and that he cares for her even if he messes up rather than to just have an argument that gets resolved. Which would work too if it weren’t for the fact that the characters and dialogue were so off, just maybe not quite as well. Lots of changes to be made; you’re not wrong.

Okay, I’m sorry for talking your figurative ears off omg no I love it this is a craft revision and I’m so here for it. Feel free to say I’m way overstepping because, well, I am, but I’m a fan okay!!! Idk if you’re overstepping I’m too drunk but I don’t deserve fans I’m crying yall are so wonderful And I overthink EVERYTHING, so there’s that too haha same though. These are just things to consider and jumping off points, so don’t let it change whatever you have planned. I’m sure it’ll be great, and frankly, I mostly read for the smut anyway so I don’t know why I’m so invested in the plot LMAO this is why I’m worried about Dulce being a slow burn y’all just want the smuuuut and @beautiful-tragic-fallout can tell you there’s a huge difference between my fanfic writing and my fiction writing though you’d think they’d be similar. Maybe I’ll just write it as a novel, never post it here, hope it sells, and one day y’all can be like “this book plot sounds familiar… I remember this slut who wrote a bunch on tumbl—wait, is this author actually Cece?!?” Because, reminder, Cece is an abbreviation of my second middle name and very few people actually know it at all and my published fiction writing isn’t under Cece (I’m mostly joking, but really, as long as the porn’s good, you could write anything well, thank you.) I’m sure this whole ask is riddled with typos and forgotten words and bad grammar (brevity has never been my strength), so I’d also like to apologize for all that. Listen I’m so drunk right now…I didn’t even notice. And my responses probably are too.
