Comes from a blended family, and his stepmom and younger siblings (twin boy and girl around eight) are actually Koopa Troopas of all things.

The only playable Agent to both know and like his parents

About 80% Humboldt Squid (aka Jumbo Flying Squid), which is why he's so fucking tall. It also means that he's really fast in swim form, to the point that he could probably outswim someone who'd filled all the slots on a piece of gear with Swim Speed Up without any Swim Speed Up investment of his own. (this is inspired by Lucky, another, very different version of Agent 4 made by EikaPrime on Ao3)

Eight

Yes she just goes by Eight. She was a little self-conscious about it at first but then she found out about SMG4 and the other SM64 Blooper Youtubers and no longer gives a shit

If she remembers her old name yet she's not mentioned it

Obviously doesn't remember her parents, but given the Domes are the kind of place where you can Start Training to Become an Advanced Military Hardware Engineer and Elite Soldier at Fucking Nine Years Old, I imagine she wouldn't have many memories of them even without the Amnesia

Contrary to popular fanon, my version of Eight doesn't have a scar from the Test Failed Bomb. This is because Respawn Pads (as long as they're fully functional) completely erase whatever the fatal injury was, leaving no trace apart from maybe some phantom pains if it was particularly nasty

She does, however, have plenty of scars from all the other shit she went through in that hellhole

Managed to complete every single test before she escaped

My version of Eight is a single year younger than Marina canonically is when they meet so I'm not going the Off the Hook Adoption route for this one (maybe in another AU with a more lose interpretation of Canon, but given this AU is specifically meant to adhere to Splatoon Canon as much as possible we're out'a luck this time), though she does still become very close friends with them

She's got Craig literally right there for any potential adoption attempts anyway

Very rarely speaks, but is expressive enough that most people can tell what she means anyway (you know Ferb? It's the exact same thing as what Ferb does)

Doesn't have a weapon preference. She's comfortable with any weapon she gets her hands on

She fucking hates Splatanas and everything they stand for

Configuring Frye's Palette in the Memverse was legitimately harder than dealing with her own Palette's stupid "Hacks or Chips, you can't have both" Gimmick Bullshit

Andi Finn

Has no fucking idea who her parents were and does not care

Actual supergenius who could probably build a functioning replica of Grizz's rocket out of scrap metal from just her memory of fighting on top of it. Never learned how to read before the NSS got ahold of her because she lived alone in the desert

Can't remember where she learned Salmonid from

Somehow even the homeless kid has better hygiene than Paige

Made up her last name on the spot when she was signing up for a Turfing License (if you're wondering how she managed to sign up for a Turfing License when she couldn't read; With Great Difficulty)

Figures she probably isn't a full Inkling given her weird beartrap beak but doesn't give enough of a shit to take a DNA test about it

Yet

Paige dragged her home to their apartment almost immediately after the final battle against Mr. Grizz and she never left. It's not an official adoption but that's only because Paige is a bit oblivious to their own feelings on the matter and Andi doesn't know that paperwork is supposed to be involved

Almost exclusively calls Paige "Cap" even when they're out of uniform. I mean, she can't very well call them "Mom" or "Dad" since they're nonbinary, now can she? Paige has no idea that's what she means by it and just thinks it's a nickname because Andi gives everybody nicknames. Usually as insults

It took her 333 tries to get through "Splitting Crosshairs" (I legitimately Cannot beat that stupid kettle no matter how hard I try and want her to share my frustration but also want all four agents to have 100%ed their respective adventures so I'm just having it take her a comically long time to do)

Mains Explosher because it's the closest she can get to a Turf-Legal grenade launcher (for now...)

The Eternal Hunger, Devourer of the Bear

Is fine with people using Crabcake instead

Was "The Eternal Hunger, Stabber of Ankles" before going through Return of the Mammalians

Extremely eloquent, but most people can't speak Salmonid so it just sounds like it's making the same gurgley noises as every other Smallfry

Once looked Marie dead in the eyes and said "No one will ever believe you" in perfect Inklish while they were alone. Has never said anything else in anything other than Salmonid where someone can hear it

Andi and Crabcake fucking hated each-other for the first third of their adventure before bonding over kicking Frye's ass and now they're inseparable

Actually gets its own uniform after everything's said and done. It consists of a little high-rez safety vest (like the one on Paige's field uniform), an earpiece (suction-cupped in place since it doesn't have external ears) in the same style as Andi's headset, and a clean black-with-thin-yellow-racing-stripes-on-the-sides pants...wrap...thing

It also got a new switchblade from Sheldon (the old one got lost in the space battle after it turned into Hugefry) with the same kind of black-with-blue-LEDs aesthetic as Paige's gear and a blade made of Sardinium

Also thinks that it and Andi are already adopted by Paige but that's for Salmonid Culture Reasons instead of Not Having an Education Reasons

Got separated from its swarm during a Run a few months before Return of the Mammalians. It wasn't too fussed about it and figured it could handle itself in the desert for a while and then either reunite with that swarm if it ran into them or join a new one if it happened to come across one. Because Salmonid Culture

Considers the NSS its current swarm

most fucked up thing at my new job is there's only zero calorie sweeteners at the coffee station in the break room. three different kinds of zero calorie sweetener but no regular sugar because the assumption is that literally everyone is on a diet?

This might be an odd complaint but I really don’t like how people act like Byler endgame would just excuse every other shitty thing that’s been done to everyone but conveniently attractive presumably straight white men in this show writing-wise. I’d be more than happy to have Byler be endgame and I expect it, but the amount of racism that’s been brushed off is ridiculous in and outside of the show. The weird St*ncy moments this season, the fact that she doesn’t get a storyline related to her trauma. Even season three was incredibly white of them. Joyce not getting hardly any scenes with Jonathan and Will these recent seasons. All of it and more—it won’t suddenly go away and make everyone on that writing team geniuses. And this isn’t to sound ungrateful or anything, but it really is disappointing sometimes. They exceed tremendously at some points such as the Upside Down lore but as for other aspects…

not an odd complaint at all! the only thing byler endgame makes okay is the fact that they didn't use will's feelings to fix a straight couple. there's so many other things they got wrong, and a lot of it has to do with the fact that the people writing the show are white men. and white women. white people

NOTHING they do could ever make what they did to lucas right. having their one black character go against the little white girl in season 1 which resulted in people being racist to caleb irl, having billy literally get physical with lucas and say he's gonna kill him and then saying in an interview that they "think" that billy was racist like they didn't write it themselves, the fact that it's literally never brought up again...lol. i know stranger things isn't a "this thing that happened was wrong. let's talk about it and try to make it better :)" type of show but still. it's crazy. also this regarding erica in season four

and you don't even have to dig that deep to find things that byler endgame won't fix: like you said, stncy being pushed on us and on nancy again in season 4? 98% sure it won't be endgame but like. why did you have to put us through that. WHY. and yeah lol, remember when they brought nancy back to that pool at the end of volume 1 like they remembered she was traumatized by the death of her best friend and then...nothing happened? idk, it's just so weird

also, the byers being sidelined? for will i guess you can rationalize it and come up with great and convincing meta reasons as to why his character was sidelined in seasons 3 and 4 (which, yeah, fascinating, i will still hate it ten years from now, no matter how important to season 5 will is), but what about jonathan? what about joyce? how does one justify the fact that winona went from being the reason 75% of people older than 15 started watching the show to having less screentime than fucking jason in season 4? it is annoying when people act like byler endgame will make everything right and will make stranger things a perfect show because it really won't

Thinking about however mean Shanks was to Luffy he'd be 10x meaner to Ace if he'd known him when he was a kid.

Partially, it'd come from some childlike bitterness. Ace is Roger's true son and Roger never saw Shanks as his own despite raising him. But the other part is because he'd totally see Ace as a little brother and would absolutely want to demolish that kid out of brotherly love.

I'm on new mood stabilizers and I do feel the chemical restraint part of it. the suppression of a part of myself.#it's just that the part it's suppressing is a part I've tried to kill for a very long time.#the harm isn't about pain it's about suppressing energy. it's about shutting down the uncontrollable part #idk we'll see how the meds pan out long term. Hopefully I feel more normal on it.#I don't feel like the suppression is shutting down something that is myself. After seeing your Xina post I am reminded that Spider-Man 2099 (especially the 90's run) is a case study on how a strong side cast is often a underestimate aspect of a strong comic run. Miguel's entourage is more memorable than his rogue gallery and gave him tons of stand out moments when he was out of the spider-man suit.

YEAHH YOU GET IT

Spider-Man 2099 (1992) may be set 100 years after the modern* day, but, at the crux of it, all the people in the book still act and talk like people. Even characters like Xina, who didn’t show up until about ~20 issues in, feel just as distinct and memorable as characters who were around from the start.

Hell, George O’Hara is dead before the book even starts, and yet his character still influences Miguel to a certain level just for having raised him-- the Young Miguel O’Hara side-stories aside, we see this guy in like... maybe one or two scenes in the whole main run. But. Those two scenes were all it took to establish everything we needed to know about him and who he was.

Everyone plays off each other so well that you could imagine any and all of these characters interacting with that fluid, tongue-in-cheek easy-breeziness. Not every person in the side cast is a home run, but a lot of them--enough of them--are that, even having reread the ‘90s run as many times as I have over the years, I still find it an honestly just entertaining comic book to sit down and read if you like its style.

no no i'm not at all emotional knowing diluc treasures and keeps all of kaeya's letters to him in his house. or that kaeya kept in contact even after everything went down just to take care of diluc, in his own way. or that they knew each other so well kaeya instantly knew diluc was the one behind the dark night hero appearance. or that diluc probably holds dear in his heart that kaeya grieved their father's death as well in his absense. i'm totally okay. this event didn't make me emotional at all... i don't even care that much about kaeya and diluc

#specifically thinking about kahns wings (since one of his parents had them it makes sense he'd develop them though they look #different from most being a lot more bat like than bird like) anyway thinking about how he's first seen with them described as #'not big enough to be useful but there might still be time' (note Arvel's race basically all have wings but only a fraction of them #develop wings big enough to actually fly with and they're kind of an upper class of an upper class because of that even though #it's really just genetic happenstance and even if a person's whole family has usable wings you randomly might not)#anyway the next time he's seen they're broken and twisted to a point where Len thinks it might be best to just cut them off (obviously #he doesn't do that i don't even think he could) and by the end he can actually use them. in ranged combat at that #i dunno i just kind of like them externally showing character progression. also thinking of all the little moments that #he'll try to hide behind them out of fear or embarrassment and how Len basically thinks that's the most adorable thing anyone #has ever done (and yeah yeah whatever i also think that's a cute trope) then again Kahn could do war crimes #and Len would probably still love him #maggot original #and yeah yeah whatever it's cringe or whatever. granted he's not the only character with this design though it is far from #the norm for social reasons (that reason being that most people with his parentage are either #aborted. killed as infants or just abandoned to die. either due to the...yikes ways they're conceived or the parents just #not wanting a 'freak' for a child. yeah fun stuff)

ive been looking more into, like, the ghost (band) lore stuff because it's fun and all, but. WOW there's a lot of discourse over stupid shit. why are people so pressed about people nicknaming the ghouls

#like i understand that they're called Nameless Ghouls #and for a while their only distinctions were through alchemy symbols for various elements #but. there's been so many ghouls that i feel like it's kinda weird to freak out over people giving them harmless nicknames #they're not their Actual Names and it's a lot easier to say swiss instead of “the one who plays guitar and sings and also smiles a lot”#there's been like... 23 ghouls??? that's a lot of fuckin people and just saying “the bassist” or “the keyboardist” doesn't work when -#- there's been like seven of each #plus. i know the identities of the ghouls have been revealed and they're not suuuuper secretive about it but it still feels kind of -#- strange to use the people's real names when it seems like things were supposed to stay kind of anonymous #and it seems like they're playing characters on stage so it feels even stranger #idk. i just don't get the fuss over it #don't call them anything if you don't want. call them nicknames if you want. who cares #the members themselves don't seem to mind it since people never try and claim these fan nicknames are Real Names #they're just silly little nicknames. cringe is dead. who cares. have a little fun.
