hi!! do you happen to know if thistle's age was mentioned anywhere? i'd heard that he was around 60 but took a peek at the new bible and his age is listed as unknown :x
I don't think it ever was.
but we can make some guesses (these are WILD very personal guesses btw)
he was brought to Delgal's father as a child, I think he looks 5 but definetly not older than 8, so I'd split the difference and say he's 6. Elves age around 5 times the rate of tallman so he'd be around 30~35.
Tumblr media
Delgal's father already looked like an adult when he got Thistle and then he had Delgal, i'd assume that wouldnt be much later after thistle's arrival so I'll put him at around 35~40 when delgal is born
Delgal looks older when they finally get into the dungeon and he already has a son, tallmen in dungeon meshi live around 50 in average (I'd assume a king would live longer due to better lifestyle but still) maybe he's in his mid 30's when they get into the dungeon? I dont think he looks in his 20's and his child isnt very small either
Tumblr media
That would indeed make Thistle's around his 60's by the time they went into the dungeon, lets say this was 30 years later Thistle would be between 65~70, that's not so far from 60 (unsure where the 60 came from) but even by this calculation thistle would be 14 in tallman years at the oldest when they went into the dungeon and stopped aging. I think the oldest you might argue for his age is 75? (which is 15)
If anyone has more concrete information please share!

dichotomous plants are so weird man. like they’re not even weird it’s the becoming the dichotomous that’s weird. i went to a talk once about a population of strawberries that were accidentally slowly becoming dichotomous and they didn’t even have sex chromosomes, like they had like a bunch of genes across a bunch of chromosomes that did a little bit of sex but not a lot and it added up to one whole sex kind of but not enough that they had all collectively decided to be one sex or the other, so there was still like, a sizable chunk of the population that was producing flowers of both sexes. like they were microdosing it. taking the sex genes for a spin in the strawberry patch

Late Mermay idea!
Orca mer Ghost in an aquarium but he is almost always hiding and quite depressed so the aquarium decide to give him a little more enrichment.
With humans lack of mer knowledge they come to the conclusion that because orcas eat seals then surely an orca mer would eat a seal mer. They decide that during closing hours (to avoid guests seeing the blood bath that will surely follow) they will drop a live seal mer into ghosts tank so he has the natural experience of hunting instead of just being fed slabs of meet.
But mer’s don’t eat other mers, regardless of secondary species.
So when seal mer soap is dropped into his tank, ghost just thinks he’s being given a very energetic handsome roommate.
And the humans are confused as to why ghost hasn’t eaten the seal mer yet

was thinking about next-gen kids and decided to doodle a couple. elaborated thoughts below:
Iphis is named with the same naming conventions that Sally used when naming Percy - primarily, mythological figure who had a good fate. Nice for Percy to honor his mom by naming his own kid the same way and Annabeth gets a fun nerdy mythology name. Also sending good vibes to their kid. Plus middle name directly in honor of Sally, of course.
Specific myth is Iphis and Ianthe, with the idea that a.) it's gender-neutral so works regardless of kid's gender and b.) not only does Iphis have a good fate, but arguably nothing bad happens to them ever and they get helped out by like three whole pantheons who show up in a literal parade and they live happily ever after. Percy and Annabeth are pushing for the BEST vibes possible.
(Also I am a very strong proponent of the "I don't think they'd name their kids after dead family/friends" so none of them have that)
Iphis of course inherited the Jackson family early grey hairs <3
Virginia is named after Juniper (cause Juniper is specifically implied to be Juniperus virginiana). She's probably been childhood bffs with Iphis since Iphis was born.
Chuck is Chuck. I gave him a Yankees jersey cause you know he's being raised as a sporty kid.
Do you ever think about how OP Frank and Hazel's kid would be. It's ridiculous. Quadruple legacy, including 2/3 of the Big Three. Frank by himself was already so OP the gods had to nerf him. Hazel came back from the dead and Frank kinda just said "nope" to dying that one time. Hazel presumably has every power that Nico has which is. A lot. Not to mention what Hazel has been shown to just be able to do on her own (including but not limited to SINKING AN ENTIRE SMALL ISLAND). Ares/Mars kids can functionally be completely invulnerable sometimes and also have some limited necromancy. Combo that with Hades/Pluto kids also being hard to kill and having necromancy as one of their main powers. Not to mention how Pluto geokinesis might combo with Chloris (goddess of spring) powers? And this kid is 100% being protected by both Nico (who is probably a deity by that point) and probably Pluto himself as well? Hello?
Anyways Hazel and Frank's kid is a total powerhouse. Possibly functionally immortal. Easily strongest demigod of her generation.
I like to think the latent Chloris legacy would crop up (probably in combo with Mars and Poseidon's plant aspects) and give them an accidental Persephone-type theme and that's fun. Frazel's goth daughter who takes after her grandmother (and uncle).
Figured since Frank is Canadian and Hazel is from Louisiana they'd go for a French name. The flower theme was not intentional on their part it just happened. Law of demigod naming conventions appears nonetheless.
I figure Leo might not have kids of his own but he probably still hangs around with Hazel and Frank so of course he's going to make their kid a cool thematic robot pet. He's probably her godfather or something.
Ronan is literally just some kid who showed up at the Chase Space who coincidentally was a legacy of Freyr and could shapeshift. Magnus and Alex obviously can't have kids cause they're dead, BUT some orphan with essentially a combo of their powers just shows up on their doorstep? Their kid now.
The ironic part is of course their shapeshifting powers just happen to be because they're distantly related to one of Annabeth's friends. Ronan finds himself suddenly gaining two parents and two cousins (Iphis and Lily) in rapid succession.
He only picks up Magnus' last name though cause Alex has 100% disowned her mortal parents.
He has a seal flipper cause shapeshifting and apparently "Ronan" means seal. I just wanted to draw those two showcasing their shapeshifting a lil bit.
Might try to doodle the other next-gen kid thoughts I had at some point but idk when. anyways yeah.

Luo Binghe really was entirely too forgiving about the whole abyss thing. Y’all talk about how the peak lords must have felt going through hell and high water for Shen Qingqiu, just for the man to still end up with Luo Binghe? Imagine if Luo Binghe had friends and they knew exactly what Shen Qingqiu had done to Luo Binghe over all those years 😬

it's just so fucking fun to listen to brennan talk about magic bc it FEELS like a lecture about organic chemistry or thermodynamics. there are things that are universally true and people have spent countless hours and resources proving. but why do they happen? girl we don't quite know yet.
magic is a science that wizards are building an understanding of, but early wizards did a lot of handwave-y assumptions and "yeah we're just going to assume that works and will continue to work to keep building on it so we can cast fireball and teleport." and now wizards like soft and stone were going wait hold on wait you skipped some steps. and that's what modern chemistry research feels like to a tee

my friends and I got into a debate about which animal (Komodo dragon, rhino, leopard, or gorilla) would let you live if you were stuck in a windowless room with one for like half an hour- do you have any opinions over which would be the least homicidal?
of those four, probably either the leopard or the gorilla (scare the leopard enough to get it to stay on the other side of the room, try to convince the gorilla you're just a harmless little funny guy) but I'll be honest, those choices aren't great

Aro-culture is trying to understand why society created the most ridiculous rituals and signs for romance and not finding a single answer/or that makes sense.
(No seriously, all the explanations I find are dumb. Send help)
.
#aro culture is#aro#aromantic#actually aro#actually aromantic#ask#mod axel#honestly all i got for u is that romance is a socially described category of emotion#and social categories are notoriously full of all sorts of cultural biases and assumptions and history that got lost to common knowledge#not to mention the human tendencies to create lil rituals that sometimes become big (ie knock on wood / slug bug)#so u end up with like. 'yeah u gotta not directly tell ppl that ur in romo with them immediately because...'#culturally it signals like. moving too fast or it's seen as embarrassing or you gotta do xyz things first#my sister advised me as a teen that in her experience and opinion - delivered like the words of a sage - if someone is bad at kissing#then they are bad at sex#(me [a kissing repulsed aro person who enjoys sex]: uhhh)#and honestly like. especially when viewed from the outside those things are fuckin wild#like... my mom came from a tiny backwoods type of place in [redacted]#and when i moved to [redacted] and one of the biggest cities in my state (though tbh not that big actually lol)#it caused all sorts of fun. she thinks it's exceptionally rude that not every single person on the street smiles and says hi#if there's not a crowd#she also gets really upset that service workers are less likely to make small talk#and both of those come from City Etiquette being more about like... not taking up ppl's time and attention and that being respectful#like smiling and saying hi to every stranger on the street is... honestly gonna be seen as a Huge Danger thing#and service workers do not have the *time* at most locations to chat with you - especially if it's busy - and it's seen as disrespectful to#both the workers and the people in line behind you to insist on it#but from her POV with Country Etiquette#this is equivalent to like. getting slapped in the face and told that you are specifically mad at her#and she gets legit anxious about it in a very 'this means i fucked up' way

i'm genuinely curious, is there a reason you draw most of your characters as cisgender?
confounded by this question because i don't draw a lot of "my" characters. my OCs tag is giving abandoned mall. if you mean characters i draw in general: how/why do you assume them cis? a character being depicted as amab¹ + masculine or afab¹ + feminine (& that's pushing it. i barely draw feminine characters in general lol) does not make them cis. i don't write about gender (characters' or mine frankly) much because i have Way More Other Things That I Consider Vastly More Interesting to spend my time writing about quite frankly, but you cannae know that. this is an assumption you are making. whatever this assumption internally comes from... not my business i don't live inside of your skull. what i'm doing is #mythang in ways i think makes sense for the themes, the motifs, their backstories, for the way i think they interact between each other, with the sort of baggage i read/can read into a narrative. in medias that have interpretations/perspectives as a central theme, people are bound to draw/interpret characters differently. fandoms are wider than you think they are, and there are as many people who draw characters as trans(-in-a-specific-way) as they are who draw them as cis (or trans-in-a-diiferent-way). you might live in a bubble where everyone draws a character as trans(-in-a-specific-way) (and chances are if we share a fandom i am in this bubble too!), which is not a bad thing, but it might not be my experience. or anyone else's. above it all. i'm doing my thang. and you do yours. 💯☮️🕊️
¹ i'm very much aware this is not The Ideal terminology to use but for the sake of simplicity & because i'm assuming this is what you are basing yourself on visually this is the most easily-understood way i can phrase it

BOTW Link’s age: debunk attempt
So far, only Zelda is confirmed to be 17. This is noted by Zelda who visits the Spring of Wisdom on her 17th birthday, when she’s allowed to go up there. It’s an assumption Link is the same age, not canon. If he’s able to accompany her, he can be older.
NOTE: wikis can be editted by anyone without evidence. Teachers advise against using wikis for research papers for its lack of credibility. So I won’t be taking the loz wiki saying he’s 17 into consideration as there’s nothing concrete to confirm that.
1) Creating a Champion suggests he could be an adult. This is a book researched in accordance with the botw dev team for a more informed approach. Below are page snippets from pg 107 & 377.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2) Drinking Age: Noble Pursuit
Japan’s drinking age remains at 20. It’s likely Nintendo follows their own country’s law in regards to drinking. Link could be considered an adult unable to drink yet.
3) Link says I’m over 100, not 117.
Tumblr media
Also Link is a short king, most likely mistaken to be much younger and not taken seriously by other npcs.
4) Urbosa’s Diary page
Tumblr media
This entry doesn’t suggest they’re the exact same age. It can be said for both teens and young adults. Older gen like Urbosa and Daruk (Urbosa was Zelda’s mum’s friend) would say this to anyone younger than them.
Conclusion: If you see him as 17, you do you! Based on the info above, it’s also valid to consider him an adult. As of Tears of The Kingdom, he definitely is one!

just asking, what if an iterator possibly gets too hot or cold? What happens if they can’t get to safer temps with out outside forces? What if they can’t get to safer temps at all?
Do you mean superstructures or puppet-bound iterators? I'm sure superstructures have a lot of failsafes to deal with temperature fluctuations, mostly via processing water intake. They're living saunas! They probably have an incredible resistance to both hot and cold, as evidence shows.
I'll talk about puppets here, but if you meant superstructures, well... a lot of what I'll say here could apply to superstructures too.
(For puppet-bound iterators, I am referring to my AU CDSS)
For heat: Puppet-bound iterators, like their former superstructure bodies, run hot and need to stay hydrated. They rely on liquid coolant that runs throughout their bodies. Ruptures in the coolant system are one of their many common problems, but with medical aid, they're not too serious. Many cases are self-healing, or the rupture will seal itself off and reroute around the blockage - like with collateral circulation. Leaks into essential systems are more of a concern than the actual loss of coolant. As long as they stay cool and drink water while waiting to get fixed, they tend to be fine.
If they are stuck in a hot region and can't escape, they'll suffer from dehydration, heat stroke, fried components, damage to organic tissue, seizures... pretty much what you'd expect. As a superstructure, Moon probably suffered from all this leading up to her collapse.
For cold: They're fairly resistant for a few reasons. One is the antifreeze in coolant. Another is the heat that they naturally produce. I'm thinking they have silicone-based skin, which is very cold resistant. They have hemocyanin, which tends to function better in extreme cold than hemoglobin. (Hemocyanin can also work at hotter temperatures. I have like a whole essay about this that I still intend to post lol.) However, the puppets have been modified to have more flexible and sensitive skin - dexterity in exchange for some durability. They're more susceptible to the perception of cold than they would be if they were a still a superstructure. Many of them also dislike snowscapes on principle, because they've been freezing their decaying metal butts off for centuries by the time CDSS happens.
Iterators in both forms are very moist, so if it's cold past their limits, their mechanical components will freeze. And like with hypothermia in fully organic beings, prolonged time in extreme cold will lead to tissue death and organ failure. Superstructures with fractured exteriors (direct exposure of internal parts to the cold air) are especially susceptible to this.
Misc theory about superstructures: Moon's superstructure was able to stay intact into Saint's era because she collapsed straight down into the water, preserving most of her shape. The canyon water could have provided the pressure and circulation she needed in the absence of gravity cores, as well as protection against land pests and insulation against the cold. Remnant slag could have her generate excess heat as well, which would keep the water surrounding her unfrozen. In a way, dying like that could have helped her live longer?!
Thanks for the question anon, this was very fun :P

There is a universe in which i was caught up properly on CR whenever what the fuck went down and Imogen verbally and definitively declared that- after everything leading up to this and the back and forth and indecision- that she'd be willing to take down her mom if need be. and i would have been deeply insufferable and writing 20+ separate meta posts and liveblog yelling posts and shitposts. This is not that universe so instead we will put this post here where i can have wildly uninformed (aka 20 eps behind) Emotions about it until someday i actually catch up.
(I know. i accidentally wrote potentially wildly off base/deeply out of date meta again. what can i say. i like shaking the concept of An Imogen (even if it is Outdated Imogen) in a jar. sorry.)
Because i was watching long enough, I think, to see Imogen in the throes of the hope for something better, to understand that Imogen was viewing her mom was a figure and an idea and an answer, that would make things easier. Her mom was- gone, so early. And so her mom, in her mind, was not a person she was an idea, and there was so much hinged on that! Dogged determination and anger at her father and a deep seated dislike of the powers in her hands and head even as they gave her a guilty rush. There were promises there that maybe no one else had made, but Imogen believed. Things built up. Expectations made. Lore crafted, even unconsciously, around someone who was, yes, important to Imogen, but more importantly: Missing. Gone. A blank slate to be filled in. A promise of an answer guide to open questions.
And then she meets her mom, and Liliana Temult goes from a figure to a person- with all the bells and whistles and rough edges. She meets her mom and her mom turns her away. Tells her to run. Tells her she should go. Tells her to leave.
And Imogen doesn't. In the same way she kept visiting libraries, keps asking, kept pushing for answers when it was just about her magic and her headaches and the voices. Imogen always, always wants to know. She keeps digging, she keeps trying, she reaches out, over and over and keeps trying to touch this figure in mist until she's real under her hands, and. Evidence piles up- of deeds gone wrong, blood on her hands, a figure standing next to Otohan (her friends bodies scattered, lifeless, around Otohan). She keeps reaching out, keeps trying, and is rebuffed, over and over. Things get worse and the skies get redder and magic goes dead and she's still- unsure, because what if there's a better reason, what if there's a better way, there has to be a reason, why. There has to be, right- maybe if- maybe. Maybe-
Its just like- a person as an idea. As a symbol. As a promise. One you build yourself up around and towards. One you talk about, not talk to.
And then the fog clears, and they are a human.
(And she's your mom, and she's not what you imagined. She's done you wrong. She's done your loved ones wrong. She's hurt you. She's hurt others. She's going to keep hurting you. She is going to keep hurting everyone. She is too far gone to reason with. She is not listening to you. She is flawed. She is. dangerous. She looks so much like you. You look just like her. You are so similar. You have always known you were similar. You always hoped. You.
Are not her. You are not hers. She is not yours. She is not who you thought she was. She was always someone else. So are you.)
Imogen walks through the bases pretending to be her mother. Liliana is a known face- a powerful one, a figure people fear. A well known silhouette. Imogen slips into the shadows of it, sometimes, when it serves her, but we know- she knows- its all an act. All a lie.
Liliana, after all, is alive, and well, making choices that she believes in and fighting for things with a dogged determination maybe only matched by her daughter.
Imogen knows this. I think. There's a part of her that maybe wishes that wasn't the case.
"There is no loyalty with this blood." And after all- only living people bleed.
