Gifts [Linked Universe Four]
It started with a little white lie. Four should have known those don't end well for him.
One of the fic requests from this Post. It grows.

No matter what time he's thrown into. No matter where in the world Four's feet carry him. He can always count on the local Minish population to find him. It was simply the nature of the small race, to find and to hide small treasures in which the world above may in turn find and cherish.
And so, Four thought very little about accepting gifts from his small friends (his family). From every corner of Hyrule, across every small village and thriving metropolis, from the skies of Skyloft to the hilly slopes of Hateno, he accepting them all with open hands.
Shiny stones. Unusual seeds. Small pieces of metal. Colorful craps of cloth. Shells, amberfied bugs, bells, flowers, leather straps, hair ties, buttons, nuts, lost keys, dried herbs.
Little things. Lost things. Interesting things. And the list goes on and on. Anything the Minish found value in (even if the rest of the world didn't understand it), they would gift him, just as they gifted such things to each other. It was simply the way they lived, and Four had no problem indulging them a bit. It was such a small thing, hardly worth getting upset over even if he didn't always appreciate the small piles of accumulated gifts taking up prescious pack space.
It was such a small thing. He hadn't thought of the consequences when he'd lied.
"Hey! Why you've got all them things?" Wind asked as his usual curious self was prone to do, bright blue eyes shining with interest as he took in the pile of tiny odds and ends piled on Four's inn bed.
For his part, Four didn't think twice before replying. Didn't even bother to look up as he rooted around in his pack for his smithing tools. "I just like collecting things."
"Oh." Wind replied quietly, eyes taking on a contemplative shine.
Had Four noticed, he could have put a stop to everything before it even happened. If he'd have just looked up he would have caught the glimmer of delight that took home in Wind's eyes, the aura of intent radiating off the boy like an ill omen.
Had he been paying attention, he would have noticed the soft honey-brown curl of hair and equally soft hazel eyes staring in from the slight part of the door. And the piercing baby blue tucked in right below them, calculating in their ferocity.
But he didn't. He'd been focused on the task at hand and he'd forgotten himself. And more importantly, he'd forgotten about the enemy that was his brothers helpfulness.
He should have been known better.
And now he's paying the consequences for his inaction. And actions.
One would think the path to Four's misfortune was a slow, ominous slope overlooking a vast pit of good intentions. And in a way, it was.
Except the part where there would be explosions and rock slides and the crash of thunder closing in from all sides simultaneously down in those depths. The winds howling great swarms of debris and sand and dust, sweeping over it all in vast waves, racing up the sides of the steep slopes with fierce abandoned. Turbulent waters gushing from their banks and over the tops of mountains in torrents that brought down whole forests into the chaos.
In other words, it would be the very essence of his brothers' heavy handed affections given form in the shape of one minor observation and the lie that fanned that flame into an inferno.
And it started with Wind. Because it's always Wind. Of course.
He'd given Four sea shells. Three perfectly shaped ones in bright, smooth colors of white, blue and pink. Beautiful patterns of brown and silvery blue faintly etched into the bumps and rounded spikes spread across their glossy surfaces. One was big enough to hold up to his ear and (by Wind's reckoning) hear the ocean. The smallest fit at the very center of his palm, so small he could form a fist around it.
Four had been touched by the sweet gesture, and had smiled and ruffled the youngers hair. He'd put the gifts in his pack, just besides the collection he'd amassed from his Minish brethren, and that had been that.
Or so he'd thought.
Hyrule had come next, offering an assortment of oddly shaped seeds and a tiny apple (fully formed, just no bigger than a grape). From his own private collection, Hyrule had said shyly, blush high on his cheeks and on the tips of his ears. His mouth twisted into a bashful smile.
It was honestly a curiosity for Four, who had never even seen such seeds before (in any of their timelines), despite his Minish connections. So it was with genuine enthusiasm that he'd taken the small collection from his brother, fingering through them with open interest.
He hadn't thought to be suspicious of the silence that had enveloped the camp as he mumbled excitedly to himself about his newest gifts. Even going so far as to mime eating the tiny apple in one exaggerated bite, much to Hyrule's flustered delight.
The very next day, Warriors came to him with a rather stunning collection of coins. Most of which the smith had no idea which country (or even time) they came from, only that they were all immaculately polished and a few even looked to have been restored at some point. Most were in languages he didn't even understand. If they even were languages.
Confused by the gesture, but intrigued nonetheless, Four had thanked the Captain with a smile and a few questions as to the origins of some of the more outlandish ones. To which he promptly discovered Wars hadn't a clue, he just thought Four'd appreciate them more than himself.
The wording had been suspect to the small smith, but he'd let it go. Never look a gift horse in the mouth and all that.
He should have. It was like the flood gates had cracked open and all of his brothers suddenly wanted to ride the waves that were sure to follow.
Twilight had come to him during one of his  night watches and handed him a bag of something relatively heavy and metallic sounding. It turned out to be horseshoes. Or, more precisely, it was a collection of horseshoe shaped items that came in all shapes, sizes and materials.
When questioned, Twilight explained that he's seen Four forging some at Lon Lon Ranch and thought he'd be interested in the different types of experimental shoes he'd collected during his lifetime of husbandry. There were even some for deer, much to Four's befuddlement.
Right on the heels of that odd exchange, Sky had approached him with a whole set of little wooden weapon's models piled onto his palm. One for each weapon type he'd seen used by the chain, Sky had explained, handing them over to the confused smith with a tired smile.
And it was quite the collection indeed. Swords, hammers, whips, boomerangs, bombs and any number of items Four had never though he'd see translated so well into small wooden replicas. Even the bow looked delicate and ornately detailed, the string shape so fine he feared it would break at the slightest brush of wayward breeze.
Four hadn't had the time to question why before Sky had stumbled back to his bedroll and was out like a light.
Legend had come next, looking as surly as ever (though shy too, which was nearly as uncomfortable for Four as it clearly was for him). He'd tossed down a bag of something heavy next to the smith, told him he had no use for them but he'd heard the smith enjoyed things like these, and then stomped away.
They were rocks. Or, more precisely, they were magical stones. Not quite concentrated or powerful enough to be the center piece of any enchanted jewelry, but they were beautiful nonetheless. Most took the form of minor gems or unusually colored or textured pebbles.
Not that Four was ungrateful, but the whole encounter was very, very odd. If somewhat useful. Utilized correctly, these could be used for some light enchanting practice.
Time had sat next to him during one of their extended break times some days later and started pulling out empty bottles from his pack one after the other. Most were so miniscule Four hadn't even realized what they were at first. The smallest being barely the length of his thumb nail, though a few were nearly the width of his palm.
A collection he'd been keeping around in case they may one day be useful, Time had explained, his one eye shining with merriment (mirth, Four thought, but dismissed it. for surely he'd misread the slight pull of his eldest brother's lips).
Very confused, but accepting the bottles being handed to him nonetheless, Four finally asked. "That's fascinating and all, but why are you giving these to me?"
"Oh?" Time had hummed, eye twinkling (with mirth, Four's mind whispered again). "Wind told us about how you enjoy collecting things like these." His eye seemed to take an almost fey quality then as he handed Four the last bottle. "And that you were growing quite the collection already. So, we thought we'd contribute."
Four almost opened his mouth to question, before it finally clicked.
He had said that, hadn't he. At the inn when he was trying to keep Wind from asking too many questions.
"Well," Four began, somewhat nervously. "I just-"
"Hey!" Wild interrupted as he came bounding up to the pair with a wide smile, slate in hand. "I got some stuff for your collection, Four!"
Four didn't have time to speak before Wild was opening his Sheikah slate and out came...
Everything. Everything and nothing at all. Just piles and piles of any conceivable (and inconceivable) thing that anyone could just pick up off the ground in a fit of fancy. Stacks so high Four had to crank his head back to stare wide-eyed at the still growing piles. Objects so outlandish a few seemed to be (pulsing? beating? moving?) imbued with unknown magic.
It just kept coming, much to Four's growing horror. Until blessedly it stopped, and there Wild stood before it all, hands on his hips and a smug, beaming expression on his face so bright it could blot out the sun.
"Voila! I gathered everything I could find for you! Now you'll have all the weird stuff you could possibly need!" He rasped in that scratchy voice of his, turning his head in a near circle to take in the rest of the chain with an air of victory so pungent it smelt of bokobline guts. (No, wait. Those pulsing things are bokobline guts.)
A moment of silence, until Time broke it. "Well?" He asked the smith kindly (deviously).
Four's brain scrambled to come up with something, anything to salvage the situation. But when Wild's expression dimmed and he started to fidget uncertainly, Four's mouth was moving before his rational thinking could intercept.
"Thank you, Wild! I was just shocked you took an interest is all! It caught me by surprise!"
And the beaming smile was back, along with a rasped. "Of course I'd be interested! I even got you the most, because I love you the most!"
'Oh. Oh no!' Four's eyes darted around at the rest of the chain, and sure enough there it was. Sky was looking contemplative, Hyrule just as much so as he looked at the acorns littering the ground. Wars had that competitive gleam in his eyes, Wind looking just as fired up by the declaration and Legend had a stubborn glare that spoke of many bad things for Four's future (and pack space, damned hoarder).
And it was at that moment that Four realized that he was staring over the edge of a steep, steep slope. And far below that slope were the smiling, loving faces of his brothers ready to bring the unfathomable chaos that was the helpful nature of eight Goddess ordained heroes.
And all Four could think as the hands of fate tilted and he was sent spiraling into the chaos was.
'Maybe they're secretly Minish kin too!'
'Shut up, Red.'

I feel like Zelda does not recognize that her actions have consequences, which is. A very bad attitude for a leader to have, and seems to extend VERY far back in the Hyrulian royal family. You're also very right about them seeming to think that Ganondorf was too far beneath them to do any real harm. They thought they were being clever, but they failed to recognize that he can be very dangerous if he wants to be. This is entirely in a "good for her" way towards Ganondorf btw. So basically I am shaking Zelda by the shoulders and screaming "WHEN WILL YOU LEARN!!! WHEN WILL YOU LEARN THAT YOUR ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES!!!!"
Oh my god, right??? I mean, I'm not surprised, that kind of shit is just par for the course with royalty. They're literally born into a position of absolute power and authority, and told that they deserve it because they are fundamentally better people than literally everyone else, and all these lesser people exist only to serve them. That is the philosophical bedrock that a monarchy is built on. And in the LoZ universe it's a thousand times worse, because now we're also talking the divine right of kings (divine right of princesses in this case i guess), except it is canonically true. The literal canon says that the Hylian royal family has actually descended from a goddess, and that means they get to rule the world forever, and anyone who disagrees with them is pure evil to be crushed.
I mean, don't get me wrong aesthetically I love a good fantasy monarchy, that's just an inherent guilty pleasure of the genre. But I like them being done well. I don't want my fantasy royalty to just be the beautiful well mannered people that wear fancy clothes and sit on thrones. I like them being written as a person in a mandatory lifelong political position, and taking their duty as head of state really fucking seriously. Yeah, they're rich and powerful and live in a cool castle, but the trade off is that literally their entire life is dedicated to the betterment of the kingdom, regardless of what they actually want to do. That's the deal. You get anything you want, but you don't get to be your own person. If you don't want to do the job, then you don't get to have the privilege that comes with it. Honestly, one of the best examples I can think of off the top of my head is Riju; she's the unelected leader of the Gerudo and took the throne as a child... and took her responsibility really fucking seriously. She's been an exemplary leader in all her apperances, and she's clearly dedicated to the idea that being the head of state means serving your people above all else. She's dedicated her life to the wellbeing of the Gerudo, and that makes her an incredibly good person; she's more than earned her position and the benefits that come with it.
...And then we have Zelda, who isn't so good at this. Honestly, I'd say her main problem is just straight up entitlement; not really surprising given her environment. I mean for fucks sake, just look at how the civillians in TOTK treat her; I'm still absolutely horrified by that one sidequest where a research team misheard her instructions, thought she told them to go exploring in their underpants, and instead of refusing or even questioning the situation, they actually fucking did it. Every single one of them stripped naked, and set off to do their job in the manner the Princess had asked them to. A job that included going into monster dens. Now of course this is all silly, because naked people are funny, but if you actually think about it for five seconds, it's actually not funny at all. A group of civilians believed that their ruler ordered them to throw away their weapons, remove all their armour, strip naked, and walk into a monster den. This is outright said to be suicide. And they were actually going to fucking do it, without a single complaint or word of question. And the game's actual response to this is just "wow, it's so great to see how everyone's so devoted to our princess! this is a really heartwarming story". No game, I do not consider it heartwarming that a group of civillians were immediately willing to throw themselves to a pointless, agonizing death for no benefit other than Zelda's amusement. Not that she actually told them to do it, but the misunderstanding spiralling that far says so much about the state of Hyrule, and how much accountability Zelda is being held to. Which is to say, literally none whatsoever. Even when the fake Zelda is raising hell across the country and actively ruining lives, the only response from her apparent victims is to get worried that they haven't been showing Zelda enough devotion which is why they must have deserved this torment, so the only response is to dedicate even more of their lives to her service! Nobody questions her, nobody even gets angry or scared that she's seemingly hurt them. They just grovel at her feet.
The point I'm making here is that Zelda has spent years in an environment where literally everyone tells her that she is the most important person in the world, she deserves all the power, respect and riches, and she could never do anything wrong. That would go to anyone's head, and let's be real here... the game never even suggests that Zelda's tried to get people to take it down a few notches. She isn't worried about the mindless worship, she's perfectly okay with her country being a goddamn suicide cult. And you can see the entitlement coming across in her actions during the game - she has the four sages swear that their entire races will dedicate themselves to serving the Hylian royal family, and specifically their still-unborn descendants will take up the role to do her dirty work. She thinks it's perfectly reasonable to ask people to sell their unborn children into her service, and there's nothing ethically dubious about making demands of people who haven't been born yet, with two of them still being children when they're ordered to take up arms. And I realize it's a serious situation, but the game doesn't acknowledge this as being a morally grey action; the new sages are swearing to dedicate their lives to the glory of their god-ruler, how could anyone find that alarming?
And her treatment of LInk is particularly infuriating, because let's remember her, the last time she sees Link is immediately after he's been gloom-fucked by Ganon. His entire left arm is dead, and his beloved weapon is destroyed. She saw it happen. He absolutely could have just died right after she was yeeted back in time, because again, he was mortally wounded and in an extreme amount of danger. And even if he did live, he's just had his entire arm ripped off; after everything he's gone through, it would make perfect sense for him to finally hit a breaking point and decide he can't stand to fight anymore. My man's literally died before, and now he's lost his dominant limb, how could anyone be expected to keep going after that? But Zelda never even considers that Link might not be able or willing to fight for her. She treats it as a given that he's perfectly fine, and will do exactly what she wants even if she isn't there to order him around. It's not like he can think for himself, that would be ridiculous. Link is denied any and all agency; he can't even form his own opinions about the main plot or influence it in any way; everything was decided several thousand years ago. He's just here to do as he's told.
It just... all makes me think of that one memory in BOTW where Zelda runs away from Link, and when he catches up to do his fucking job, she greets him by angrily declaring that obviously she's the only one with a mind of her own. That was supposed to be her being way the fuck out of line, and abusing Link to deal with her own frustrations. But apparently TOTK... decided that she was right. Zelda is the only one with a mind of her own. Link's just here to follow her around and swing the sword when she tells him to.
It's just so fucking bleak, I hate this story so much. I love the gameplay, but I'm having a miserable time with the plot, every new development just makes me more frustrated and upset. I'm working on the fifth sage thing right now, and gotta say, absolutely fucking hate how Mineru refers to Link as just Zelda's Human Weapon. Like thank you furry goat lady, I realize that Zelda chose me to be her personal bootlicker, but I sure as hell didn't consent to any of this, and nobody has asked me if I'm actually willing to put my life on the line for this woman yet again.
At least BOTW fucking asked me if I was willing to risk my life to stop the Calamity.

Febuwhump 2024, Day 6: Link(Time), Malon & Fierce Deity - “You Lied To Me”
Fandom: LOZ/Linked Universe
Summary: Link had traumas that Malon knew she wouldn't be able to rid him of. She let him handle things how he needed to, but only asked that he tell her what he needed and to never seek help from the Fierce Deity mask. So it's a surprise when years later she wakes and he is nowhere to be seen, armor still in the closet, but the mask gone. Malon would fight the God of War and Battlefields if it meant she got her husband back.
AKA: How Time got his facial markings and scar.
CW: blood, injury, self harm, possession, hallucination gone wrong
The work of the hero was never over, never fully retired, since haunting memories were always right around the corner to drag them down into a spiral of guilt, despair, self hate and unworthiness.
Malon knew this when she married Link, her Fairyboy. She knew the road wouldn’t be easy with him and the burdens he has had to bear on his shoulder and the traumas that came with it.
She was patient with him, never trying to force him to open up. He already had a hard time talking aloud, pushing him would do no good. What he spoke to her of his adventures were sometimes hard to take in due to the fact that his tasks were so grand and he was a child, not even a teen yet.
Some days were just normal days working on the ranch, making runs to Castle Town or to check in with Zelda. There were some days where Link would get lost in his own head and when asked about it, he would shake it off saying that it was nothing, only a memory. Malon still kept her eye on him those days, but it was the days that he would shut himself away that she truly worried about him.
He had a tendency to get up early when he was having a rather torturous night inside his own mind and that meant he also didn’t sleep. These days could end in one of many ways. Mostly it ended with Link’s head on Malon’s chest, letting out his pain in the form of words and sobs before he became too exhausted and they went to bed curled into each other, her arms wrapped around him like the shield he never had as a child.
Many times it had ended with him needing space to process his emotions and she respected that, especially when he told her that he didn’t want to scare her away. He would come back with a smile and a gentle kiss, giving his thanks for her understanding.
But then there were the days where the trauma held him captive, twisting his mind in the goal to tear him apart from the inside. He would grow angry, distant, snapping at every little thing that was directed towards him. The pent up rage of being Hylia’s Chosen Hero would boil, making him pace the floors, mood changing at the drop of a hat.
They had learned the hard way to not let him go to sleep with this anger still thriving in him and it only took one time to learn it. That one night could have taken Malon from the living, leaving Link alone, but Malon knew too well that he would never live in a world that she wasn’t in.
His dreams had turned to nightmares, making him see things from his past that weren’t really there. Malon had tried to wake him up, making her the object of the hallucination.
She screamed for him to get off as his hands wrapped around her throat, slowly squeezing the life from her. She tried punching at his chest, clawing at his bare skin, pulling his head back by his long hair that pooled around her own like a golden halo, but her strength in that moment of ice cold fear was not what it would normally be. Thankfully, he had woken from that horrible possession, seeing what he was doing.
Link of course was mortified by his actions, scared to even look in Malon’s direction, much less place a hand anywhere near her. He would step back when she approached him, give her extra berth when walking pass and flinch when she would say his name. The bruising hand prints took a month to clear and he refused to get close until then. Not that he forgave himself after the evidence was gone.
Solution to the problem when those days of anger crept in? He would leave. He would leave with his armor, sword and shield, searching for monsters that took advantage of the night.
The first time he had done this, Malon woke to a cold bed and no note. All she knew was that his gear was missing and he was gone. She had thrown a blanket over her shoulders and before she could slide her boots on, he walked through the door covered in mud and blood that she prayed wasn’t his.
Seeing the tired smile on his face had let her know that he was okay, that he had worked out how to handle these days of suffering. That didn’t stop her from scolding him with tears running down her cheeks first, kissing him fiercely second, demanding him to take a bath third.
That night she told him to never scare her like that again, to tell her when he was going to leave to take care of the building need to hunt down monsters to cope with his past. The one thing that she made him promise more than anything though, was that he never take The mask with him. Who knew what could happen if it fed off of his emotions, especially emotions that Link couldn’t control his own self.
So of course when Malon woke in the middle of the night to a cold bed after several years of no incidents, she was on high alert.
“Link?” she called, hoping that he was down the hall or in the living room below their room.
With no answer she got up, throwing a shawl around her shoulders. She opened Link’s personal closet for his adventures and saw that his armor was still there, but not his sword and shield. That was odd.
Something told her to look in the small chest he kept tucked in the very back of the closet where the one artifact she hated stayed. A gasp startled from her lips as she saw it was open and empty.
“No, Link, what have you done?”
She hastily slid her socks and boots on after the trousers that Link had gotten her for when she wanted to learn to fight. Being married to a hero came with risks. She strapped a simple short blade to her hip, bow on her back, then was out the door.
Not wasting time with a saddle, she grabbed Epona from the stables, hopped onto her back and began her search. The search itself wasn’t difficult since Malon was a decent tracker and followed Link’s boot prints. Her heart sank when the tracks grew in size. He had put on the mask.
The clash of metal and the screams of monsters told her where to go and she did. To the eye of a true warrior, the sight would have been one of a lifetime. Malon was no warrior and she was seeing the Fierce Deity for the first time. She covered her mouth with both hands as she watched the eight foot giant of a god easily slice through the horde of monsters with his double helix blade.
It wasn’t the being himself that frightened her, it was how similar he and her husband looked, how they moved in the same way as they stalked towards a fleeing monster. She didn’t understand the magic inside the mask, never wanted to, but she knew by looking at the deity that it was like nothing their world had ever dealt with. Not even before Ganondorf was sealed did she ever feel this kind of power. It was raw and untamed.
She slid off Epona’s back, quietly landing on her toes. So far the deity hadn’t taken notice of her, but when she took a step away from Epona, the horse flicked her tail and nickered. That caught the gods attention.
He straightened up, slowly turning on his heels towards her. His solid white eyes glowed in the dim light. The full moon’s reflection shimmered off the silver armor he wore across his chest. White hair that was out of the cap slightly swayed as he took steps towards her. His sword was held in his left hand and out to the side. It was a threatening posture in a taunting way.
Malon took a step backwards, pulling out her bow to nock an arrow. She did not point it at the god yet, wanting to talk Link back to control. “Link, darlin’, I need you take the mask off.”
Another step closer.
“Please. I don’t want to do this to you.”
Another step.
“Please.” she whispered.
When the Deity didn’t stop, she raised her bow, letting loose the arrow. She aimed for the least lethal area of his body, his thigh. The Deity didn’t flinch. Nocking the next arrow, she aimed higher to his right shoulder. The Deity caught the arrow before it hit the metal armor, snapping the shaft in half in a single flex of his hand. His facial expression never changed, but his pace quickened. He was getting too close for the bow, forcing her to toss it and draw her sword.
At that, the Fierce Deity stopped in his tracks, snarl on his face. Both of his hands held the hilt of his weapon, purple aura coating it and him. He raised the weapon above his head, nearly swinging it down with his full power.
“Link please!!” she begged with a scream.
The sword never met its mark, frozen half way to her. Blue eyes tried to come forward, but with a shake of the head, they were back to white. The realization of what just happened clicked. Link was fighting inside to protect her. The Deity held onto the sword with one hand, the other hand pressed firmly into his forehead. Soon it was both hands on his face, grunts of discomfort flowing.
“Link?” Malon consciously asked.
“Run. Malon, RUN!”
Her heart twisted while listening to the Deity and Link’s voice morph together in the warning. “I’m only leaving with you by my side, Link. No sooner, so keep fighting. Come home with me.”
The deity grabbed at his face, a holler echoing loudly through the thick woods. He took a few stumbling steps back and was close to doubling over. Fingers worked at the rim of the mask, but the Deity took hold again.
“No! I will not be forced into the mask again. You will be my eternal vessel and no woman is going to change that. I will make sure of it one way or another.” He snarled and growled, getting to his feet.
“LEAVE HER ALONE!!”
Too suddenly he was in front of Malon, hands reaching for her face, but it wasn’t white eyes that looked down at her. Warm hands cupped her cheeks, her Link’s blues shining bright.
“Leave me, Malon. You need to get away from me. He will not stop until he finds you now that he knows your face. I’ve seen his thoughts, what he wants to do, what he will do if given the chance.”
“N-no… You can do this, you can break free.”
A deafening roar had her slipping away from his hands, Deity taking over once again, well, not fully. One eye was white, the other blue. Screams from both voices shook the ground. Fingers scrambled for the edge of the mask again, peeling it away, but it slammed back down.
“You ungrateful boy! After all I have done for you, this is how you repay me? You betray me?!”
It took a few tries, but Link got the Deity’s fingers to pry the mask away just enough at the section on his jaw. With his left hand, he pulled a hidden knife from the arm bracer, slipping it under the mask.
“No!” In what felt like slow motion, Malon took off running, but didn’t make it in time to stop Link as he shoved the knife in deeper, razor sharp edge pressed to his skin, cutting the mask away from his face as he lifted the handle up. The mask fell to the soaked grass, discarded for the moment.
She wasn’t going to ever forget the agonizing scream he let out as blood poured from his face.
“Link!!” She ran through the blinding flash of light that accompanied the removal, catching him as he landed on his knees, tipping forward to land face first into the dirt, but instead landed on her chest.
A shaking arm wrapped around him to keep him stable on his knees, her other hand was in his hair that had fallen from the braid he kept it in. She could feel the hot liquid soaking her tunic. She needed to get him home and attend to his injury.
Whistling a few notes to her family song, Epona trotted up to their side. “Hey girl, down.” The trust horse got down onto her stomach like she was told by the single word command.
Adrenaline spiked, Malon had no issues getting Link up and onto Epona’s back, letting him lean forward onto her neck. “Nice and easy, okay? He’s hurt.”
Epona snorted, head turned towards Link, nudging his limp hand that was hanging down. She then did a blow of air, followed by nosing Malon’s cheek as if saying, “I got him.”
“Up girl.” With more gentleness than she had even shown Link, Epona stood. Malon gave her a face hug and used the nearby stump to get up behind her husband.
It should have been frightening how still Link was, but she stayed determined. She pulled Link back to be pressed to her front, his head lulling onto her shoulder and to the side. At a steady trott, they made it home.
It wasn’t the first time Link had come home beaten and battered. Wasn’t the first time Malon had to nurse him back to life or force a potion down his throat. The fairies on the property typically did all they could for the worst part of the damage, but not this night.
The fairies, to Malon’s shock and disbelief, were scared of Link. With no time to question the phenomenon, Malon dismounted and dragged Link down too. He was barely responsive, though anything was better than nothing.
She got under his arm, taking most of his weight as his feet dragged, attempting to help her even with an arrow wound to his leg. The steps to the second floor proved to be difficult if they went side-by-side, leaving her no choice than to carry him in her back. She sent up a small thank you that he was only in his casual tunic and leggings.
Finally laid on his side of the bed, she began the process of getting him cleaned up so she could actually see what she was working with.
The large basin of warm water quickly turned pink, then red as she kept removing the trickling blood from his face and hair. She paused when red wouldn’t be removed. Dread sank in as she kept going, another red marking above the other and a blue one on his forehead that had been covered by blood and his hair sticking to it.
“What did he do to you?”
It was nearing two hours before Malon had most of the blood cleared from her husband, potions slowly dribbled into his mouth to get the worst healed. She got him changed into his sleep clothes, trying to give the potions as much time as she could.
With a steady hand she threaded the stitching thread into the curved needle. Turning towards the bed again she jumped slightly. Link had his left eye partly open, watching her, but never looking up at her.
“Hey.” Her voice shook. He only gave a long blink, instinctively going to touch his eye. “Don’t touch it. You’ll just make it bleed again.”
Another long blink.
“How much pain are you in?”
He licked his lips, swallowing hard. “I can’t t-tell. Ev’thing is numb.”
Malon popped the top a numbing oil, wanting to prevent all the pain she could. She poured some on a cloth, reaching over to dab it to his open wound, but he caught her wrist gently.
“No.”
“Link.”
“I deserve whatever pain comes, so let there be pain.”
She wasn’t going to win. Steadying her hands again, she started to stitch the gash over his eye close. Link never moved away, taking the pain as a form of punishment towards himself. The other part of his punishment was looking into the mirror, seeing the Deity’s claim on his face. He pried his eye open, white staring back at him.
Malon wrapped gauze around his head to keep the cut clean. She sat at his side, tears now wanting to flow.
“M’sorry, Malon.”
She let out a small sob. “You lied to me, Link. You swore you would tell me when you were leaving, that you wouldn’t put that demon on your face again, but you did.”
“Be angry with me, please, let it out.” Another punishment.
“I th-thought I had lost you to him. I thought you were never coming back to me.” Her voice whispered, “I was so scared, Link.” She placed her hands over her face, still trying to be brave.
“Malon, come here.”
Not needing to be told twice, she curled into his side, head on his chest, legs intertwined, hands fisting his tunic, listening to his breath and heart beating.
“I’m so, so, sorry. I will be sorry for the rest of my life.”
Regret.
She sobbed into his chest as he slowly stroked her back and red hair, applying soft kisses to her head and forehead, constantly saying sorry.
“Don’t leave me, Fairyboy.” She hiccuped at the end, implication clear.
“Never again.”

have you ever played splatoon 1? if yes, what's your opinion on the way the gameplay handles in-universe propaganda (having the main characters give you biased information and getting more accurate information through collectibles)? do you think it's something that would work in zelda games? (also, if you haven't played splatoon you should, i think you'd love octavio)
SPLATOON! See Splatoon is ideally the sort of game setting that I enjoy. I have played Splatoon 1. Then I bought Splatoon 2 and played a bit. And then never bought Splatoon 3. I still have games in their shrink wrap my backlog is so big. I still need to finish Fire Emblem Engage 😭
Ehem! In any case! To answer your question! I have indeed played Splatoon 1! Now I think fundamentally, the way Splatoon and Zelda impart information to the player is not all that different. Even in Zelda, we learn information that is more "accurate" aka information that will allow a glimpse of how the side you are fighting for isn't essentially guiltless. We have instances like the Shadow Temple and the Arbiter's Grounds, which shows the merciless side of the Royal Family, and being able to interact with the Gerudo in OoT and draw conclusions as to how they really are despite the overt racism the rest of Hyrule displays towards them, to name a few. What is different between the two, however, is how that information is framed. In Splatoon, you learn that the Inklings and the Octarians are fighting for survival essentially, for the remaining dry land. Of course the characters will impart biased information to you as the player as they are interested in preserving their own people. The losing party, in this case the Octarians, were forced to flee and hang onto survival in ancient human shelters. We learn that at some point in time the Octarians and the Inklings had worked together, so why is this no longer the case? Is it greed and fear at their shrinking landmass that caused their alliance to fracture, that they couldn't come to some sort of agreement on how to use their resources? The game still eventually makes you view the Octarians as your enemy, because in the grand scheme of the story they are your enemy, but the lore that you learn frames it as the inevitability that comes with the consequences of war and the scarcity of resources aka there isn't really a good side or a bad side, it is just what it means to live in a post-apocalyptic world, maybe in a way an inheritance of human greed and their need for survival.
In Zelda, however, the way the story is framed is different. Even though we learn of the misdeeds of Hyrule and the Royal Family, there is no consequence attached to their actions. When they persecuted the Sheikah, and unjustly so, for their possession and knowledge of Sheikah technology, the Sheikah were either forced to concede and live out their lives peacefully or rebel and forever become an outlawed group in Hyrule. The people who were imprisoned in the Twilight Realm were never really paid any reparations from Hyrule; their evil status was maintained, and the onus was on Midna to understand that the dwellers of light were not all that bad. Her solution was to destroy the mirror of twilight, forever severing her world from Hyrule, which says a lot doesn't it. The Shadow Temple acknowledges that the Royal Family tortured and killed any dissenting voices and those they considered an enemy, but that is not really ever brought up in a context where it is considered a wrongdoing. There is also something to consider here, and that is that Zelda's lore presents, objectively, that Hylians and the Hyrulean Royal Family are favored by the gods. This isn't even propaganda; this is in-game fact. We, as players, can see that it follows the pattern of propaganda that imperialist nations tend to spread to legitimize their rule, but in the game's story it isn't presented in that way. So, unlike the Octarians and the Inklings who are equal factions vying for control over land for the sake of survival, the lore is objectively telling you, all things considered, that there is always one side that is already favored, and that is the side that will be the one that is good. For something like Splatoon to work in LoZ, LoZ's lore would need major tweaking. For one, it would have to present Hyrule's enemy, whoever it is, as truly having legitimacy for opposing Hyrule. It would also have to go out of its way to demonstrate that, in some shape or form, that godly favor does not make one good, it just makes one more powerful and influential. It would have to change in a way where you are shown that maybe you aren't necessarily fighting for good and preservation of light and peace, but essentially for your own survival and the survival of the people you care about. The cost is not the defeat of the ultimate evil, but instead the loss of the survival that your enemy is also fighting for. It would have to put both the plight of Hyrule and her enemies on the same level. We came close to that in the Wind Waker, where Daphnes had urged Link and Tetra to find their own land, free of Hyrule's old history but, as we can see, we have backpedaled quite hard on that, with Hyrule's imperialism being framed as the ultimate good. (I LOVE OCTAVIO, he reminds me so much of OoT Ganondorf, sometimes I call him DJ Squidorf just for my own amusement)

PITCH:
Attack On Titan: Deathwatch
An Adult Swim Original Series
Only On Toonami
What is it —
A full-blown American made animated sequel series to the Attack On Titan anime that is also a female-led spin-off starring Historia Reiss and Mikasa Ackerman as the protagonists.
CAST:
Trina Nishimura as Mikasa Ackerman
Bryn Apprill as Historia Reiss/Christa Lenz
Zelda Williams as Daniella Ryback
Kiefer Sutherland as Tobin Foster
Bruce Campbell as Brisco Walsh
Kirk Acevedo as Sam Vahue
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PREMISE:
Four years after both the Rumbling and the Battle Of Heaven and Earth and one year after the epilogue, we find that the Queen Of The Walls is no longer Queen Of The Walls as we at first follow Historia Reiss, now going by her former alias 'Christa Lenz', who's currently residing in Manhattan, NY (yes, you read that right and you'll get the detailed explanation later) with her daughter Ymir, having put aside her crown and role as ruler of Paradis in order to give herself and her child a new life that's as ordinary as can be. But the chance at said new life and starting over doesn't come easy in any way, shape or even form as Historia is struggling to live a normal life with her kid as a modern-day person in the Big Apple for she's working an underpaid job as a hospital nurse, is already behind on rent, lives in a closed down bookstore she turned into a home and top it off, she owes debt to three dangerous people who are tied to the criminal underworld running drug trafficking in the big city.
It's through the latter that one of the three she owes payment to takes an interest in her and drags her into said underworld where after Historia betrays and (spoilers) shoots her the first chance she gets once she gets a sniff of enough money to pay off her debts and give both her and Ymir the life they want, the person reveals that not only (more spoilers) do they have grotesque regenerative and contortionistic powers but that said person is none other than Mikasa Ackerman herself.
Against her will and being given the same abilities as her, Historia is forced to not only marry Mikasa and be her wife but also be part of what Mikasa's been truly plotting only for it to unfortunately go south due to the effects of other storylines interweaving with each other and ultimately leads Mikasa down a path of redemption and letting go of Eren Yeager while it leads Historia down a path of hope and letting go of her girlfriend Ymir, her husband Wolfgang and her sister Frieda.

NOTES/TRIVIA/DETAILS:
• First things first, what's up with the modern-day Manhattan, New York setting? Here in Deathwatch, it's revealed at least here in the anime continuity that Marley and Eldia are only just ONE side to this universe as the rest of the world is perfectly fine and exactly as it is today with said rest of the world having completely ostracized Marley, their allies and Eldia in absolute horror and disgust but now after the events of the series finale, the modern world is now paying full attention to their side now that 80% of them were wiped out and the Titans are gone. This is introduced to us through Historia watching CNN on one of the hospital's flat-screen TVs.
• The show will not only go back to its grounded and grittier roots of the first two seasons of its predecessor as no matter how big and fantastical as it gets, it still remains somewhat grounded or grounded to some degree especially with the characters, action sequences and scenarios but also be done in the animation style of the first two seasons of its predecessor as well with Mikasa and Historia being in their S2 designs to which they fully acknowledge their new appearances.
• As for who the other characters are, I won't give anything away however I will only tell you about two to give you a good taste of what I'm cooking — Tobin Foster (Kiefer Sutherland) is at first what appears to be another criminal who is an enforcer keeping things in line only for it to be revealed that he's in fact an undercover FBI agent ready to take this drug operation down while Sam Vahue (Kirk Acevedo) is an escaped prisoner on the run who's not only guilty of his crime but is also used as a pawn in the chess game that the characters including Mikasa and even Historia are playing.
• Now let's get to the good stuff with Mikasa and Historia — here after the bird returned her scarf to her that Eren wrapped around her when they first met, Mikasa starts off as a totally different person but not in a good way. She's now a deadly and extremely dangerous bounty hunter who at first hunted and killed modern-day criminals and is currently working certain gangs against each other for her own gain. Top of that, her personality is different too.... she's cunning, smooth-talking, twisted, sadistic, boisterous, vile and controlling with a dark sense of humor and enjoys tormenting Historia. At least, that's how she starts off. For as it goes on, Mikasa begins to open up to Historia once she realized she and her have a lot in common with each other and starts showing a softer side to her. It's this softer side that romance begins blossoming as well in this dark underbelly. They start becoming a genuinely loving and caring couple with Mikasa doing whatever it takes to protect Historia, her beloved wife. It's shown that the two of them, despite their horrifying start at the beginning, do truly love each other and end up becoming a power couple right down to where whenever one of them is in trouble, the other is always there to get her out of it.
• Others added into the mix are flat-out horror elements, the animation being more expressive and fluid, Mikasa's body movements being cat-like, it having brutal but grounded violence on the same level of something like Oz and Bound, the fourth image above being the looks and outfits of Mikasa and Historia and last but not least also showing flat-out sex and full-frontal nudity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• Just for fun, both Mikasa and Historia will have their bumbling, screw-up and boobish moments like these three examples throughout to show that they're anything but perfect yet it makes sense in the context of the show because Historia is getting back into any sort of actual action before she became Queen and Mikasa thinks that she's been through so much and has fought against so many odds that she makes no mistakes at all.
• Another thing just for fun is that there will be a few easter eggs here and there sprinkled in from other media that anyone whose a fan of all sorts of different types of said media can catch quickly. For example, Historia uses a black Egyptian book to beat a certain character on the head multiple times.

As someone who got slightly noticed by the Zelda community for drawing Zelda x Ghibli fanart I have to say I don't think Zelda would fit Ghibli's standards.
I love tloz and I love ghibli movies probably with the same intensity and because of that I keep thinking that Ghibli is too serious and arsty for Zelda lol like, besides the aesthetics, there's nothing in tloz franchise that resemblance a Ghibli movie, Miyazaki and Takahata (may rest in peace) are well known for portray their views in politics and society through their films, Miyazaki loves to talk about anti capitalistic, anti war and pro environmental consciousness topics in his stories, while Takahata liked to explore the every day life of common people, the humanity in his characters and usually portrays deep, strong female characters going through a coming of age/growth journey (also had anti war messages with Grave of the Fireflies and fictional stories with The tale of princess Kaguya, both with a strong focusing in their main characters and their personal journey, with a very sad ending I must say)
On the other hand, despite Zelda's lore being a little confusing lol I like the overall construction of its universe but at the end the overall lesson of its stories is kinda bland, there's nothing wrong with a good old fashioned tale about the chosen one, good vs evil and the brave knight saving the princess, but it's like… pretty much all? I don't think Zelda's development team ever wanted to focus in go deeper than that, like questioning the role in the monarchy like with the clan Yiga there were just a bunch of losers being annoying in your traveling, they told you they rebelled against the Sheikahs and the royal family but why? Did they have a valid motive? There was nuance there that made you think "well… I get their point, I don't think their actions have justification but I understand where they come from"? Idk give me complexity!!! I want to reflex, I want to see not only a villain and a hero but complex people that make choices and make mistakes and you see the complexity of their decisions. The only moment similar to that in the history of Zelda that I can think of is in Wind Waker where Ganondorf told us why he want Hyrule, it was for his people, it was the wind that he coveted, THAT WAS DEPTH, THAT WAS AN ACTUAL CHARACTER WITH ACTUAL MOTIVATIONS, what he did was wrong, but you get to actually empathize with his feelings of just wanting a dignified life for his people, I can't think of any other moment like that in Zelda…
Sadly, I see how Nintendo is really focused on get the money (that's why they carefully chose to make a live action instead of an animated movie) so even if there was a slightly interest in Ghibli to make a Zelda movie Nintendo would have to let the creative direction entirely to Ghibli so Miyazaki would do the thing he knows how to do which is got slightly inspired by a story of other author and then just do whatever he wants with that, and of course Nintendo would never agree to do that.
Basically what I am trying to say is that a Ghibli x Zelda movie was a dream that it born dead

WALKS IN
hi!!! for the ask game uuhm nathaniel, nikolai, shibusawa, and uuuh fuck it. kajii too
whooo okay here we go!!
nathaniel
first impression:
oh i just know everyone hates this guy because everyone hates the scarlet letter. they don't know about the house of the seven gables :(
impression now:
favorite moment:
probably the scene with him and margaret on the zelda, right before kajii comes in
idea for a story:
i so badly want to write a nikonathan soulmate au someday. i don't even know what the specifics would be but can you imagine them discovering the other is their soulmate?? nathaniel would Hate It and nikolai would immediately become the most obnoxious version of himself
unpopular opinion:
every opinion on nathaniel is an unpopular one sdfghjhk but i kind of wish they'd approached his character differently? bc like.. idk there's so much more to the irl hawthorne than "that guy who wrote that one book about adultery that everyone had to read in high school and hated" but perhaps i am just biased bc i liked thotsg so much and would have rather his character be inspired by that book even though no one knows about that one
favorite relationship:
nikonathan is fun. fyothaniel compels me. and i like the dynamic between him and margaret platonically
favorite headcanon:
king james version is his go-to bible translation. he is forever and always a kjv girlie🙏 also he has a younger sister named phoebe
nikolai
first impression:
who is this clown and why do we ship him with fyodor
impression now:
ohh there is so much more to you than you will ever let anyone see
favorite moment:
when dazai gives him fyodor's arm and for the first time since we were introduced to him, he hesitates
idea for a story:
i think fyolai roadtrip au is the only one i have that would be more centered around nikolai, which i'm pretty sure i already told you about fdgfhgjhkj but basically no-powers au where nikolai drags fyodor on a roadtrip with the intention to kill him and then slowly spirals when he realizes he can't bring himself to do it
unpopular opinion:
i think he's kinder than a lot of people think he is, but like.. he chooses not to be. i think his instincts are kinder than his actions. does that make any sense? like i don't think he's a Good person by any means but i do think there is a part of him that is instinctually kind, which he works to smother because caring about people is not freeing
favorite relationship:
once again, nikonathan is fun. and i do love fyolai too. his dynamic with sigma is also really interesting but i wouldn't necessarily say i Ship them
favorite headcanon:
he has a very complicated relationship with his culture/hometown/etc. because he feels like it ties him down somewhere, thus trapping him. but he also can't just. let go of it completely. some part of him will always miss the place where he grew up even if he tells himself he doesn't care. and he hates it so much but no matter how hard he tries, he cannot free himself.
-
shibusawa
first impression:
who is this
impression now:
what if they let him be a dragon living in a castle forever. and he just promised really hard to be chill. and they let him be. and there was just a dragon in yokohama. would that be sick or what
favorite moment:
dragon
idea for a story:
i don't actually think i have any ideas with him even in it sfdgfhgjh uhhh best i got is the one universe in snowfall where he's the god of death and gin tries to bargain with him to bring aku back and he's like :/ sorry. no can do. the laws of reality forbid it. that would be kinda cool to expand upon
unpopular opinion:
what if they just let him be a dragon livinbnbgf
favorite relationship:
idk whatever was going on with him and fyodor in dead apple was like doomed toxic yuri to me so let's go with that
favorite headcanon:
um. he likes it when people braid his hair
-
kajii
first impression:
this guy is insane (concerned)
impression now:
this guy is insane (affectionate)
favorite moment:
THE LEMON RUNWAY actually wait no it's when he says he's only part of the port mafia bc mori provides financial support for his science experiments. he's got his priorities straight
idea for a story:
he and ranpo hook up at some point pre-canon, after dazai joins the ada. this is because ranpo comes to the (correct) conclusion that eventually, most of the ada is going to end up sleeping with someone from the port mafia and he doesn't want to be left out. important to note here that both kajii and ranpo are aro(spec) and not particularly interested in an actual relationship. ranpo is dealing with fomo and kajii loves science experiments and they have a great time. and then two years later when this comes to light, yosano is like. ranpo full offense but what the HELL is your taste in men do you only like people who want to skin you alive just to see how you bleed???? and ranpo is like. tbh? yeah
unpopular opinion:
i feel like a lot of people hate him but i think he's such a fun character!! like. his ability is being immune to lemon-shaped explosives?? he shows up every once in a while to throw around lemon bombs. he's a mad scientist. what more could you want
favorite relationship:
i do really think kajii-ranpo hookup would be funny. ultralemon 4ever <3 also corey and i decided kajii and tecchou exchange terrible food combo ideas and make jouno's mental health Worse simply by being friends
favorite headcanon:
he eats lemons like apples. yes. he bites directly into them, peel and all. also alloaro kajii is a vibe

Okay so obviously I am excited to hear about the Zelda movie. Like that’s great news! But I really don’t think live action is the best way to do it. The charm of the Zelda universe feels like it would look kind of dumb and cheesy in real life. It’s the kind of thing that’s good for cosplays but not the big screen.
I at least really hope that they won’t base it off of a particular game. I imagine it would work much better and be much less likely to annoy as many fans of the series if they create an original story for the movie. Kind of in the way the cartoon did, where it didn’t fit into the canon at all, but worked okay as a stand-alone show.
I dunno. I’m excited and at the same time certain that they’ll mess it up so, so, so badly.

I'll make a carrd later, but for now an about post.
Call me mod Alistair (or just Alistair if you want, or my other names if you know me from elsewhere). He/ip/they
This blog does various things for kins, delusions, introjects, comfort characters or just for fun.
💌💉🎀🔪
This blog is safe for: proship, neutralship, pro-kink, agere, lolicons/shotacons
Do not interact: MAPs/Zoos/consang, TERFs/SWERFs/radfems, anti-ship, anti-kink, support harassment in any way
I don't keep up with most discourses so idk what most other discourse terms mean or are even about at this point. But like, as long as you're respectful of others, not bigoted and don't fakeclaim without proof of malicious faking then we good. Please don't send "can [blank] interact?" asks, they will be deleted.
💌💉🎀🔪
What I can do:
Aesthetics - may take some time, if you have a specific image you wanted used please send it to me. I would also appreciate being sent a link to where I can find transparent background images for characters/ships in it.
Stimboards - also may take some time, I can only do them on my laptop so I can be able to source the images without the struggle of switching between apps and dealing with mobile browser tumblr.
Knit/crochet/sewing patterns - a few patterns for knitting, crochet or sewing picked out for you. Please be specific in what you want (amigurumi/plushies, clothing, accessories, etc.), skill level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and any other specifics (ex. plus size friendly for clothing patterns, only weight 4 yarn for knitting/crochet, no long projects). You can also specify if you want free patterns only or if paid is okay.
Requesting guidelines:
- Requests will be closed when I have 10 or more in the inbox, and will be opened again once it gets back to zero. However, inbox will always be open in case anyone has questions or anything.
- Do not put more than one request in the same ask or make more than three requests at once.
- Please be specific with what you want!
- I have every right to deny a request if I am not comfortable filling it or feel I cannot adequattely fill it.
- I can do NSFW sources, but only if the requester is an adult. NSFW requests are a maybe but they will have to be off anon so I can fill them privately.
- I can try with any non-blacklisted source, but the sources I know the most will be on the whitelist. If the source isn't whitelisted if I am not familiar with it and there isn't a really good wiki I can't guarantee.
Whitelist: Otogi no Uta, Twisted Wonderland, GeGeGe no Kitaro, Idolmaster (Cinderalla Girls and SideM only), Danganronpa (first two games only, Pokemon (BW only for human characters and that's games only), the Legend of Zelda (pre-BOTW only), Kirby, Sanrio, Toilet Bound Hanako-kun, Disney and Pixar films, Mob Psycho 100, King of Prism, Zombieland Saga, Steven Universe, My Little Pony
Blacklist (these sources/themes/etc. can be a trigger for me or are something I am not comfortable with doing, sorry) (* means trigger): Undertale/Deltarune* (mainly Napstablook is the trigger but I'd rather avoid it all), Kill la Kill*, Brand New Animal*, anything involving cockroaches*, YouTubers (including personas, characters and VTubers), factkin/factrojects, most live action sources
💌💉🎀🔪
More about the mod:
I'm 20 and my gender is anime femboy shota. I have delusions and may possibly be a system (the questioning is mostly just denial at this point but I'm stubborn about denial even when I know it's denial).
If I block you it's not always something you did, if you mention kinning some of my delusions in your blog (like in bio, title, url, etc.) or have them as delusions as well or a fictive of them I might block for my own safety. I also block if any ask comes across as passive aggressive since passive aggression directed towards me is a trigger, so if you didn't mean it that way I am sorry! Interactive video games are new inspirations for the creation of cinematographic adaptations!
Most video games suggest gamers to follow the story of the characters they play in a linear way and to go with them throughout their quest. This question aims to mentally speaking evolve interpreted characters. This dramaturgical construction is close to cinematographic dramaturgy and is also very present in video games played by children and teenagers. These games are globally adventure games (the Mario, Sonic and Zelda video games saga) and “creation games” (Imagine, Style Savvy…). The ending of these video games is the same for any payer. Other video games have a more complex “screenplay” where several stories get mixed together in the same video game universe: the player does not follow the journey of a single character anymore, but of several characters. The story of a character is linked to another one. In these same video games, the gamer can choose the actions he wants his character to execute. These kind of video games are called interactive video games and the main target audience are adults (PEGI 18 video games, PEGI 12 for The Sims). Sometimes, players' choice can be minimalist such as in Heavy Rain or The Sims. In the first part of Heavy Rain (PEGI 18), the gamer plays the role of young Shaun's father, Ethan. Shaun is home from school and Ethan has to take care of his son. The player can make the father cook Shaun's dinner, ask Shaun to do his homework or take him to bed. The player can also make Ethan drink a beer or some orange juice. These small actions which, at first sight, seem not to be very important to the progression of the story, let the gamer free to play as he wants until the end of the game. We conclude that Heavy Rain  gives the impression that the player is the scriptwriter of his own story. Then, choices become more complicated for Ethan; the player has to take good decisions in order for Ethan to save his son, kidnapped by the Origami killer. The characters' lifes in Heavy Rain depend on the player's game choices.
Until Dawn is a horror interactive video game. Joshua Washington invites his 7 friends to come back to the Washington family chalet where his two sisters, Beth and Hannah, died a year ago. The 8 teenagers will have to face a serial killer and the monstrous and heinous Wendigo: the player is also  here the only person capable of saving the life of each character. There is an additional difficulty in Until Dawn: the player has a time limit to choose one of two actions that his character will perform, which makes the situation more stressful. In the end, if the interactive video game is a form of creation for the player, it can also become another one for a film script writer. Let's imagine that a screenwriter decides to adapt a video game into a movie. Thanks to the interactive video game, the screenwriter would be as free as the gamer to choose the end that seems to him the most suitable for his adaptation. The video game appears as a kind of virtual storyboard where the possibilities of stories are multifaceted. The video game can be considered as a tool for staging a story. This situation would even give the scriptwriter the possibility of producing several possible endings for a same movie. In Until Dawn for instance, the scriptwriter can decide to let all the teenagers survive or to kill every one of them, or anything in between.
This situation can also exist for the video game Detroit: Become Human. In Detroit: Become Human, the story takes place in a world where droids live with humans. Droids are exploited and discriminated against by humans (droids also physically look like humans). During the entire video game, the player's choices will bring him to start a droid revolution which will destroy the entire world or to begin building a new egalitarian world. Interactive video games adaptation into movies with alternative endings would manage to play with the public's feelings and reactions.
In a situation where the director decides to adapt two endings for the same movie (the adaptation of an interactive video game), several questions would also be of importance, starting with the one of the movie broadcast. We can imagine that a same movie with two different endings would be broadcasted in two different cinemas. In theaters, the spectator would have no idea which ending awaits him, such as for the release of the horror movie Unfriended Dark Web (4 different endings). Thanks to these different endings, the spectator also uncovers new aspects of the characters.
Another question concerns copyrights. Will the director of the adaptation get copyright for one or two creations (because there are 2 endings)?

Why Were There So Many Throwback RPGs and Remakes In 2023?
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/why-were-there-so-many-throwback-rpgs-and-remakes-in-2023/
Why Were There So Many Throwback RPGs and Remakes In 2023?
Tumblr media
The quality of video game releases in 2023 has been discussed in detail by many, and it will absolutely go down as one of the best years the medium has experienced, strictly in terms of the excellent games that were released. The larger industry and its members will always look back on 2023 with justified frustration.
Patterns in any year are always a given. Trends inspire entire genres to be prevalent, and we also have events like 2009, where there were two high-profile open-world games about super-powered humans: Infamous and Prototype. This year will certainly be remembered for games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Baldur’s Gate 3, among others, but I can’t help but notice that RPGs citing a specific era of the genre were also, inexplicably, hugely popular.
Tumblr media
Earlier this year, we featured Sea of Stars on the cover of Game Informer magazine. Talking to the team at Sabotage about its inspirations, it specifically cited the classic Super Nintendo game, Super Mario RPG. And when I played Sea of Stars a few months later, I could clearly see how the developer pulled from that game. One of the reasons Sea of Stars exists is because games like it are rare today, which makes it all the more surprising that Nintendo would announce a full remake of the game shortly after. What are the odds?
Tumblr media
And then, within weeks, Square Enix saw it fit to announce and release an excellent remake of the beloved 1998 Star Ocean sequel, Second Story. That game fits right alongside Sea of Stars and Super Mario RPG as an RPG of a specific era – one interested in telling a linear story without overcomplicating its primary mechanics.
Tumblr media
Before all of these games, however, we had Octopath Traveler II, a well-liked sequel to a game that may have served as a strong indicator to people and publishers with money that, “Hey – we miss these kinds of games. We want our characters and environments to look like a bundle of squares while going on an adventure. In fact, maybe it is the game to point to that started this whole thing.
Tumblr media
It was admittedly less successful than the others mentioned here, but even WrestleQuest from earlier this year was another game playing in the throwback RPG medium. Late 2022 also saw the release of Chained Echoes. We also have the Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake coming at some point in the future.
So why is all this happening now? Why has this sub-genre of RPGs – inspired by the 16 and early 32-bit – become so popular all of a sudden? Or was it always there, and I just wasn’t paying attention?
Tumblr media
I have a few ideas to put forward with little basis in scientific research. Video games, even compared to other entertainment mediums, are much more focused on nostalgia. Reliving the TV shows and movies you watched or books you read as a child simply isn’t as strong as the emotions related to existing within an interactive world. I didn’t just passively play Super Mario RPG when I was young – I lived in its universe. And RPGs are particularly good at that. They encourage players to exist within them and take them at a slower pace. The age we are now (i.e. old) has now placed us in a position where the experiences we are looking to remember are less the action-packed platformer challenges of our youth and more the relaxed vacations. We’re too old for the exciting amusement park of memory. Those rides make me nauseated at this age. But the old beach house where I just hung around and swam when the mood hit me? That sounds great. I want to play that video game, and apparently, it’s an old RPG where reaction time isn’t as important as making sure you have the right sword equipped.
It’s either that, or they are just selling really well, and people are buying them. I accept either explanation, both, or neither. Whatever gets me an HD-2D remake of Chrono Trigger the fastest.

The absolute wildest post-BotW take I’ve ever seen is that Link would spend some time systematically exterminating the bokoblins
And this isn’t a one-off opinion! I’ve seen multiple fics and posts saying that Link should start the bokoblin genocide, and this is always depicted as the correct and even logical choice
Which is wild, because the bokoblins - and even the moblins and lizalfos, I’d argue - don’t deserve this kind of retribution in any way. This isn’t some gritty fantasy universe where they’re razing villages to the ground and eating children or whatever, they’re highway bandits who aren’t very good at it
We see in the game that at worst they knock travelling merchants unconscious, steal their shit, and leave. The only reason they’re a problem in BotW is that their Ganon-brand immortality gives them the ability to live out their wildest Jackass fantasies and spread themselves out over a wider space of operations
As soon as the bokoblins realize that they’re no longer immortal, they’ll go out of their way to show how much of a problem they aren’t. They tidy streets. They clean up after themselves. They try to look as sweet and innocent as possible, because we’re all friends under the eyes of the goddess, right? We maybe, possibly, might have gotten, in some respects, a little bit carried away, but nothing bad’s going to happen to us, right? Right? Um. Right?
(In a few weeks they sign a treaty with Zelda, promising amnesty for any and all actions taken during the century of calamity in exchange for their aid in restoring the ruins. This is unanimously considered better than the alternative)
