Kaya Scodelario attends the UK Series Global Premiere of new Netflix series "The Gentlemen" at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on March 05, 2024 in London, England.
Jean De Reszke sings O Paradis from Meyerbeer's L'Africaine (March 15, 1901)
This is a live recording at the Metropolitan Opera (with very bad quality). The cast also included Lucienne Breval as Selika, Suzanne Adams as Ines, Giuseppe Campanari as Nelusko, Marcel Journet as Pedro, Eugene Dufriche as Diego, Jacques Bars as Alvar, Pol Plancon as Grand Inquisitor and High Priest, Mathilde Bauermeister as Anna and Aristide Masiero as Usher, conducted by Philippe Flon.
Opened in 1868 as The Theatre Royal, it was initially used as assembly rooms and a library until it was taken over by Yates' Wine Lodge a year later with the ground floor becoming a bar with the upper floors becoming a cinema.
As a theatre it has been known as the Tivoli Picture Theatre and Van Beine's Theatre although most people alive today will refer to it as Yates' Wine Lodge.
It survived until 2009 before the whole building was destroyed by fire, it was then left as an eyesore for all visitors to see until 2018 before work commenced on the new Premier Inn building we have today.

We’re off to see the wizard at Nottingham Theatre Royal, and there’s something about The Wizard of Oz that is an instant mood booster. It’s like a comfort show. Pretty and fun songs, a belter with Over The Rainbow, and loveable characters and an escape from reality. Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore… we’re in Nottingham until 13th April!
With a stripped back…
The Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus in Greece is a remarkable testament to ancient Greek artistic prowess and classical architecture. Built in the 4th century BCE, this meticulously designed amphitheater features exceptional acoustics, allowing even faint whispers to be heard from the highest seats. It was primarily used for Greek tragedies and comedies, highlighting the cultural significance of theater in ancient times.

It was a fantastic night and a wonderful cast. The musical was full of charm, whimsical moments, great set designs, lovely costumes and full of great songs. The lights and music gave a different perspective on the entire story in a narrative manner too. Some really good puppetry work was on stage as well.
I felt such joy seeing people in the audience singing along to some of the big numbers and laughing along. The video backdrops enhanced some of the story too.
It all ended with a standing ovation from the entire audience. Was a fantastic night and not one to miss. Would gladly watch it again if it came back to the #TheatreRoyal #TheatreRoyalNewcastle.
