Hello and welcome to Day 12 of "Let's Explore My Plot Bunnies"

Today, I wanna present to you a plot bunny that has a concept inspired by the manhwa "I want to be a Great Villain" - an Izuku has a System AU!

In "I want to be a Great Villain," the main character has a system that puts him into different stories, and he has to finish the storyline while maintaining his role as the "villain" of said story. If he doesn't comply, he can receive punishments (such as being electrocuted).

Title of the fic: "World's Best Hero System"

For this fic, what I did was I took the "System that makes you follow the storyline and punishes you with electrocution" part and mashed it with a version of Izuku that DOES NOT want to become a hero.

However, he has the misfortune (aka me, I bring the misfortune) of bring selected by a "System" (in the form of a cat) to be this world's "Best Hero Ever" - the System's words, not mine.

Izuku immediately refuses and promptly gets punished via slow suffocation. The System tells him, "You either follow the storyline or die here. Which one would you choose?"

In the end, Izuku accepts the deal, if only just because he doesn't wanna die yet. And so, the more confident and straightforward Izuku takes the role of canon Izuku. Shy, without much confidence and with a very big complex about being Quirkless - but on the inside, Izuku is seething because he doesn't like the "character" he has to play as for this sadistic System.

Katsuki is also very confused since he knew Izuku from before the System and liked him better then, too. In this AU, Katsuki's reason for being mean to Izuku is to finally make him snap and revert back to the more confident, outspoken "I don't give a shit" Izuku he knew before.

The System tells him he will become the "World's Best Hero" but doesn't bother to make him train or even stop him from training many times. It tells him that he should just follow along with the storyline, even though Izuku is very skeptical of this "storyline" the System talks about.

So, Izuku ends up messing around a lot just to test the limits of the System. Not doing what he is told to do, not following the rules exactly as he is told to, speaking back to the System and arguing with it - and as such, he is punished a lot. So much so that Izuku develops a high tolerance for pain due to the punishments.

Things continue like this till the day Izuku is supposed to met All Might. That same day, Katsuki is supposed to tell Izuku to "go take a dive of the roof and pray he gets a Quirk in his next life." Katsuki doesn't.

Seeing this, the System takes matters in its own hands and controls Katsuki for a brief period of time so Katsuki actually says the line he was supposed to. (Bakugou is still kinda conscious during this and he has a lot of guilt about it.) This is where Izuku realizes the System is way more dangerous than he ever thought since it can fully control people to do or say what it wants them to.

Meeting All Might and learning about One for All makes Izuku confident that the System has some goal in mind other than "finishing the storyline." Which, in Izuku’s opinion, it's not actually a good thing. Especially not when the System seems near gleeful at the fact that All Might wants to give the Quirk to him.

And so beings Izuku’s quest of stopping the System from whatever it is planning to do while trying to avoid being killed by the League of Villains because he gained Shigaraki Tomura's interest.

Meanwhile, we have the System, which is fully aware that without Izuku, the world will end due to All For One's actions. The System basically searches for a way to stop the madman from ending the world and comes across the "canon storyline," which it uses in order to make sure the world won't end.

It may have forgotten to explain that to Izuku beforehand, though. Oops.

More little details:

Izuku is 7 when he gets the System.

The System is able to control people who are "characters of the story" for a short period of time. The Villains are exceptions because they will fall into the villainous acts they need to do naturally without the System's interference.

The System takes the form of a cat that is only visible to Izuku.

There are other people in this AU with a System but only Izuku has the "World's Best Hero" System. Other systems would include: "Best Reverse Harem Protagonist", "Best Mafia Boss", "Best Scientist" etc. (Izuku does meet some of the System-having people)

There will be a lot of angst in this because Izuku has to conform to the main storyline: for example, even if he wants to, the System will stop him from talking Iida out of going after Stain. And then there is Katsuki centric angst with him being taken over by the System and saying things that he truthfully regrets ever saying.

And this is about all I have for this plot bunny. So, how was it? Good? Bad? Let me know!

Honestly, I kinda love My Hero Academia mashed together with a System AU because it means one of two things: 1. Izuku/Whoever is chosen has to work around the System's mechanizations (if it has any) to get to a good ending in the stroy; or 2. Izuku/Whoever is chosen has to survive the plans of the System (be it bad or good System).

I actually have an Izuku Survival System AU as well, which I will talk about tomorrow.

A SVSSS fic I want to write one day is Airplane and Shen Yuan being ejected from the System and sent back to the mundane world, but with the difference that Shen Yuan's 'edits' to the story have been retroactively applied to PiDW and as a result it's gone from 'top story in a hyper specific web culture niche' to 'international sensation with a Netflix adaption in the works'.

Keyly, PiDW is still told largely from the PoV of Luo Binghe- so neither he nor the audience is at all aware that it's now Isekai story. Instead it's billed as this heady romantic drama about prejudice, the passage of time, and redemption- where a big part of the appeal is trying to piece together the otherwise enigmatic Shen Qingqiu's motives.

Was he harsh on Binghe initially because of he sensed/knew about Binghe's demon heritage (as it's now possible to find hints that he may have in fact known all along)? Or because he saw Binghe's potential and wanted to do the tough-love training thing? Or was it because he was trying to chase Binghe away from Cultivation because he knew it would lead Binghe to misery one day? Did he throw Binghe into the Abyss because he was genuinely shocked and disgusted by the Demon reveal? Or because he knew Binghe would be killed if he stayed and he was trying to 'protect' him? Or was it because he genuinely wanted Binghe to fulfill his demon Emperor destiny and thought a clean break would do it? The fandom has no idea but lovvvvvves arguing about it.

This all leads to things coming full circle, as Cucumber, sounding like an absolute insane person, is left to rant online about how the obvious answer is that Shen Qingqiu was Isekai'd earlier in the story and replaced by a completely different person- a theory which is mocked to the point of memery, and leads to Cucumber being dunked on endlessly, no matter how much evidence he brings up or how many essays he writes.

another unfriendly reminder: at Maigu Ridge, the sex is not what killed Shen Qingqiu. AFTER the sex, when Binghe was coherent again, Shen Qingqiu started drawing the excess demonic energy out of Xin Mo himself. and once Binghe realized what he was doing, they destroyed the sword together.

I'm working on a fic and was like 'how in the hell do you make LINGUANG JUN the least bit redeemable?'. I mean, /Linguang jun/ who tossed a developmentally four year old Mobei Jun to a pack of humans? The kid could have died. And then I saw a translation of the extras. It describes lgj as mbj's 'young uncle', says that he 'wasn't that much older than him (mbj)'. And I just- its a hell of a lot different, a Scar type tossing his nephew to the proverbial wolves than it is for a maybe dumb, maybe petty, maybe developmentally five or six year old to shove their annoying technically-nephew-who-in-age-and-context-is-more-like-a-brother-than-lgj's-actual-brother into a situation that the text implies was more frightening than actually /dangerous/. And that- well I can work with that.

The thing about Crowley is that he already tried fighting* the system and the end result was his fellow rebels making a new system suspiciously similar to the old system with torture pits and demotivational posters in place of the aggressive hypocrisy and kardashiancore interior decorating. And then after that he decided to fight the apocalypse and the apocalypse thwarted itself with minimal involvement required from him. His biggest contribution was fucking up a simple handoff completely accidentally. His apparent belief that it'll all sort itself out without him or it won't and either way his involvement will be largely irrelevant to everyone but himself is pretty well founded. I'm sure by the end of season three he'll have learned a valuable lesson about how admitting that you want to make positive contributions to the world is something you can do on your own terms and not simply an exercise in opening yourself up to god's preordained judgement and hell's torture pits and but he's old and tired and has probably never been kissed let him have a very specific vision for his retirement.

*ok his version of fighting was probably just asking a lot of very annoying questions and then semi-accidentally joining a rebellion.

saw a post talking about bethany and carver and how strange their fanon characterizations are, and tumblr kept messing up and i couldn’t reblog it, so i’m making my own post with what i put in the tags

bethany and carver both hate their lives, even before they come to kirkwall. the difference is that carver blames hawke for it, while bethany blames herself. and i think some of the reason the former gets so much more meta/sympathy/etc is because self-esteem issues are a muddy and uncomfortable thing to talk about, and it’s easier to talk about carver’s issue. he has a scapegoat and a built-in success story: as soon as he strikes out on his own, he’ll be all right

i think bethany is less popular for a lot of reasons. first of all, mage seems to be a disproportionately popular class, so some people would never even meet her. also, she doesn’t make a very strong first impression. a lot of people think she’s bland so they wouldn’t be interested in keeping her in the party and getting to know more about her. because at first glance, she is the mild-mannered polite perfect daughter character. that’s who she has to be, because it averts suspicion from the templars if she follows the rules, sure, but also because it’s how she makes it up to her family for being a mage. they’ve already done so much for her without even asking; how could she possibly inconvenience them any more? she’s a burden just by existing, so she has to do everything she can, be as unobtrusive as possible, to make up for that

imagine the sheer emancipation of Eddie growing out his hair again after he had cut it short when first moving in with Wayne but this time long hair feels different and so, so much freeing bc it's no longer a stupid social expectation rooted in sth that isn't even true about him but instead a personal choice, one deeply connected with the music that comforts and inspires him like nothing else

imagine the freedom of him first realizing he's trans and how things — maybe not all things but at least some of them — suddenly fell into place from just knowing who he is, even if back then he had no opportunity and no safe place to as much as think about trying to socially transition. just feeling like his authentic self for once, without the weight of others' preconceptions about all the arbitrary ways he's supposed to be. he might've been unable to tell anyone at that time but simply having that knowledge to himself was liberating from the years of having felt like there's sth wrong with him. liberating bc now he knew for a fact that there wasn't. how can this be wrong if it made him feel like himself for the first time maybe ever?

imagine him hesitantly knocking on his uncle's door in the middle of the night when he had no choice but to run away from home. imagine the surprise on Wayne's face and all the unyielding unquestioning trust and comfort he's got for him, so thorough and genuine that it only takes him a few days to come out despite the fear. and then Wayne's silence breaks into a question of what name his nephew would like to called then. the words startling soon-to-be-Eddie into a impulsive hug, which is returned with utmost care and with quiet thinking-out-loud rambling of whether Wayne's got any clothes that would fit his nephew and that he would feel comfortable in

imagine the joy when Eddie gets a fake ID from Reefer Rick one day

imagine him making friends with the rest of Corroded Coffin guys and, when he gathers the courage and trust to come out, being met with support, ranging from confusion and a promise to eventually get how any of it works and to respect Eddie's pronouns etc, to deep understanding that hardly needs words bc you know you're being seen for who you actually are

imagine Eddie working on his voice and ending up achieving some success partly thanks to singing along to his favorite songs and trying to learn harsh metal vocals and at first scaring everyone around by going over the top with them until he figures out ways to train his voice to be more masculine sounding without resorting to that kind of harshness (and developing multiple fun vocal stims on the way)

imagine Eddie getting together with Steve and as a bonus gaining the perfect person to get advice from when it comes to figuring out a workout routine for his purposes

imagine the relief of knowing there are multiple people who you can be your authentic self with and who love you for this and would never change a single thing about what makes you yourself

- the hair!! YES!!! I feel like he had long hair before and felt pushed into have short hair in order to be taken seriously in his identity but what he always really wanted to be was ‘just a boy with long hair’ and the more it grows the happier he gets becuase THIS!! THIS!!! Is who he feels like he should have always been!!! This feel RIGHT! When it gets past the length of being ‘acceptable’ for a boy and starts brushing his shoulders he hasn’t never felt more strongly that he is Right. That this is Who He Is, this is Eddie Munson and Eddie Munson is a societal expectation-dodging BOY

- THE ACCEPTANCE AND REALISATION!!! What if he was going around as a child saying kid stuff like ‘when will I grow a beard?’ And being hushed by his elders (before Wayne). Going along with what was given to him, be it toys or clothes because his family didn’t have a lot so he’s not going to ask for more but knowing that they didn’t feel right. That he was performing a character for these people and hoping it would be enough for them, for himself. It’s not, something still feels wrong and he can’t figure out. But then, then he gets the keys to the kingdom, he moves in with Wayne and Wayne gives him some money and sets him loose in the thrift shop. At the start he sifts through the girl’s rails but all of the sizes are wrong for him. So wayne just suggests the boys racks because hey it’s just T-shirts and we need to get you stuff that fits. He guides eddie to the plain T-shirts, not thinking much of it. Not thinking it’ll be a Realisation in the young mind of his nephew. Eddie goes home with 2 boys T-shirts that day and from then on gravitates to exclusively wearing them. Next thrift shop visit eddie makes a beeline to the boys section and doesn’t look back.

- AHHH WAYNE AND COMING OUT I LOVE YOUR VERSION!!! What about Wayne passing a couple of shirts on to Eddie? A hat too? And a belt because god knows Eddie’s buying the jeans that hide his hips and needs something to hold them up. Wayne starts calling eddie ‘son’ and ‘boy’. Every time it’s like Christmas lights have been turned on behind his eyes. He feels dizzy with it, can’t contain himself, has to clench his fists to stop himself from shaking becuase this? This feels right. It fees Correct and knowing Wayne is here with him is the ballast he needs to secure himself on this unpredictable ride.

-CORRODED COFFIN SAYING ITS SO METAL OF HIM. (I personally also hc Gareth as trans so I like to think that Jeff and Freak are always ready to be Boys and show them Boy Stuff. Like alongside band practice they had Boy Practice at the start and now they can burp the alphabet in harmony and can armpit fart guitar solos and play fight and are just GOOFY)

- eddie going to a gig or band practice and then the next morning waking up with a slightly wrecked voice that he /loves/. He surreptitiously tries to maintain it, shouting lyrics in his room and just screaming sometimes but it starts to get painful and he accepts he has to find a different way. He listens to the radio with Wayne, asks to go with him when Wayne’s work friends plan a couple of drinks in one of their yards. Eddie gets to go to a couple, gets to listen to Wayne’s country and rock radio stations. Gets to hear these men talking and tries out phrases he hears when he’s on his own, records them on a tape deck he found in the thrift by luck one day. Records and re-records until he gets it right. Until he can prank call principle Higgins and get shouted at down the phone ‘I’ll find out who your father is boy! He’ll have your hide!’ The peak is when he goes into scoops and gets everything he wanted ‘hey man, how’s it going?’ From the offensively cute sailor with the big hands and strawberry sweet smile

- WORKOUT SUPPORT STEVE. YES. YES ABSOLUTELY!!! Steve showing him that he can’t just hit upper body every day, that he has to get everywhere. That he needs to make his core thicker if he wants that boy look. That working on his quads and calves will help, he promises it won’t leave him a big butt and tiny waist. (Not unless he wants Steve’s routine, that boy is going to work on his ass-ets okay?) eddie doing his first full push up with Proper Form and feeling the muscles in his back move and thinks yes. This is Good. God knows he’s not great at sticking to it but when it serves a purpose and it means he gets to ogle his boyfriend? Kind of a win win

- TBE LAST POINT!!! Yes!!! Eddie living in subconscious fear for so long that he pushes the very notion of being a Boy down. so far Down and Away that he won’t ever let it see the light of day. Or so he thinks. He tells himself that he is fine, that this is fine. But it isn’t and he doesn’t know what feels wrong. Until it slowly starts to change at a glacial speed. He tries different things. Starting only in his room, makes jokes that he thinks he can get away with in front of Wayne. Pushes it further, does more Boy things with corroded coffin. Sees that it’s okay? They are okay with it? With how he is? Sees that Wayne just nods at him and doesn’t make a fuss? That Wayne’s friends don’t bay an eye somehow? (Sure some guys at work do, but Wayne makes sure they know where their opinions aren’t wanted. That Wayne and his group aren’t to be taken lightly on the topic of Wayne’s nephew)

Eddie experiencing so much acceptance and love and there being so venom in it. No ‘waiting’ for it all to pass and Eddie to go back to ‘normal’. Eddies never been normal and that’s a badge he starts to wear with pride. With defiance. Knowing that he has everyone he could ever need how could be not?

i just want to say thank you stray for proving you can have a piece of media in the cyberpunk genre about hope instead of futility

#just thinking about how good stray was again #listening to the stray ost while playing cp2077 #trying it again after all the bug fixes and im having more fun with it now but like....#its such a futile game #i love the genre in theory but so much of it is just so unnecessarily gritty and edgy #where is the hope #whats the point in having a backdrop of despair and grit and struggle of there is no hope to contrast it #also where is the love. where is the community #cp2077 is mostly about saving yourself. which is futile #i said back after cp2077 came out that the outer worlds was a better cyberpunk game #because it still sticks to the late capitalist/corp owned/exploitative/tech advanced/dystopia of the genre #(in space)#but its also a game about hope. your character is literally a passanger from the ship named the hope #and the goal is to save the other passangers (who were left in cryosleep bc the corps didnt care about saving them)#and to hopefully save the planetary system from a slow painful deaths at the hands of corporations who only wish to save themselves #plus all the other smaller main missions in the game. edgewater. monarch. and how u choose to get factions to work together #i just see so many people praise cp2077 for its despair and edginess cuz its 'fitting for the genre' but eeehhhhhh #sorry but thats boring. give me hope please #cyberpunk as a genre needs more hope in it tedtalk over #it speaks

slightly different route:

the legendary one cycle sprint to ascension! route suggested by @sevenrs which i decided to try. the route is honestly pretty similar to what i was doing before, with a few minor tweaks that ended up making it faster than my original route.

as you can see from the score screen though, it's not actually 'one' cycle; i starved twice to bring my karma up so i could go to pebbles. but the game doesn't know any better :) tbh this was pretty fun, particularly because i'm more familiar with the route now. if you're okay with navigating drainage system and filtration system in the dark, you can give it a whirl!

#sky i am so sorry for the three tags now but i cannot in good conscience not tell you about this #or credit your (and your friend's) route planning #speeeeed #yes game i totally have only 1 minute and 56 seconds of playtime ✨#rain world #for anyone legitimately interested in trying this out:#skip the tutorial by not entering any of the tutorial food rooms #and get food elsewhere. exactly 5 is enough so don't bother hunting bats for too long #save in the outskirts shelter near the industrial complex gate #upon cycle 1's start: starve #do NOT touch the karma flower before you starve. i had to restart because i realized i fucked up #once you enter your starve cycle eat the karma flower in the room below the den #then die. quitting out might be faster but i need to check if it works; it should but just to be safe yknow #repeat with industrial complex flower and den #once you hit karma 4 reroll your rain timer until it's long enough to run all the way to pebbles in one cycle #yes it's doable. it's fun and scary and you will feel so cool #and then die or quit out once he gives you karma 10 #so you'll be back in the outskirts den after that. just book it to filtration system through drainage system #you will have to deal with dark rooms but it's like. fuckinnnnnnn uhhh four or five rooms that are pitch black #and then you're in depths! and nothing matters anymore :) except fall damage i guess #don't die in depths to fall damage #i'm excited to see if anyone can beat my time. most of my speed comes from running away from enemies and chaining roll pounces #nothing fancy movement wise. so anyone better at movement than i am could probably beat that time easily

Yeah maybe I'm formatting an entire fic bc I think a female character could be very interesting but I've literally only found one fic that treats her as nuanced even though she was introduced in 1983

#this post is abt catherine todd #shes one of those ''died before the story started'' types but she literally gets no characterizations #like she is either a. the worlds worst mom ever or b. she was a great mom until she died of a mysterious illness #DESPITE THE FACT that canonically she A) died of a very well known illness (addiction) and B) was ALSO A VERY GOOD MOM #SHE LOVED HER SON! HE LOVED HER! HE SPENT OVER A YEAR TRYING TO SAVE HER LIFE #like. her entire story is meant to hammer in the issues with /Systemic Violence/ specifically in relevance to those who are low income #and a major aspect of that form of violence is lack of resources. ESPECIALLY in relevance to addicts #i wouldnt even mind the mysterious illness thing too much if it wasnt being used just as an easy way to remove her from the story #like! talk abt the american healthcare system! talk abt the connection between chronic illness and poverty #talk abt HOW povery affects people w chronic illness #i think if you are going to use a tragedy in your narrative you must think about Why the tragedy happened and if it was Avoidable #the purpose of her story is that if she had had the proper resources/support SHE WOULD HAVE LIVED.#Batposting

Some sci-fi au ideas because the pest(/pos), @erionlextib asked me to share. There aren’t many but I feel like basic world set up needs to come before anything else.

Okay so Ru’Aun is a huge gas giant with a fuck load of moons, as well as a large ring. The two largest moons, who hold the most political power, are of course, Scaleswind and O’Khasis. O’Khasis has the most amount of resources and trade (though the family that hold the highest political seat on the moon actually come from a whole different planet, Gal’Ruk) whilst Scaleswind, due to its own history, has horrifying amounts of military power. And they’re at war. The other moons around the planet are often dragged into it, but there is an inhabited space rock that is mostly ignored that has been left out of the war as a whole. Phoenix Drop is a moon that resides on one of the outermost rings of the planet, and thus has extreme weather changes. It is, barring Pikoro and it’s moonlets, one of the furthest moons from O’Khasis.

Which is why Garroth chooses it. He moon hops first, of course, to cover his trails, but eventually ends up on the moon of Phoenix Drop, which is very different to his own. Adjusting to the diet and way of life was difficult for him. But he eventually becomes one of the most skilled fighters on the moon, and thus introduces the idea of a guard to it. They have been relatively removed from Ru’Aun politics for a while, so the concept of a guard never appealed, but Garroth thought it smart to train and equip them instead of leaving them to fend for themselves.

Magicks would still exist. Though in a different form. Similar to how Dune has Spice which give prophetic like powers, the moon herb native to Phoenix Drop gives the consumer a unique connection to the nature of their own moon, and after mass consumption, even a connection to people. It is grown on other moons, but there are few that have a moon herb in its purest form (many are genetically modified to fit the inhabitants of moons hoping to financially gain from the growing of it, for eating the moon herb whilst not being familiar with the diet of a moon herb planet can lead to severe illness).

Garroth begins taking the moon herb not long before the au would take place, and he finds it a very jarring experience each time. It causes him some slight illness (he’s from a whole different planet, so moon herbs, modified or otherwise, have a bit of an effect on him) not to mention that going from entirely disconnected to suddenly becoming one with nature is… a pretty big change. But it’s because of the moon herb that he begins to feel as though there’s something important he needs to do, and so sets out with Zenix (who himself hasn’t yet earned the right to eating moon herb) and tries to figure out what. They find Aphmau. And whilst my current ideas mostly follow the set up for amaranth, i might change it.

#amaranth follows Aphmau trying to save the world from damnation but the sci-fi au would probably follow her slowly descending into cruelty #and becoming empress of the planet. or the entire solar system. depends on her mood ig.#aphmau #aphverse #rewrite #aphblr #minecraft diaries #mcd #amaranth #amaranth space au
