5 Songs I'm Into Right Now
Thanks to @riftdancing for the tag! I love talking about music so this was perfect :)
1. acloudyskye - Surface
I decided to check out this album after seeing it pop up in RYM's new music since I'd heard one of acloudyskye's previous albums, and this song just sunk its hooks into me and won't let go. That guitar line. The piano chords backing it up. The production. The lyrics. The vocal delivery. The vibes. The main guitar riff and the chorus ("If you're there, can you hear it?/They're shooting flares in the distance/They won't find a trace of us/We'll be gone when morning comes") both live in my head rent free. This is a song that ends a character playlist I'm working on, and that spot is well earned.
2. 2hollis - all 2s
Fitting to go at number 2, I stumbled on this while trying to find more electroclash in the vein of Justice and decided to give it a spin. That first 30 seconds or so is what grabbed me: the simple synth line & choppy vocals that becomes a Wall of Noise after 16 bars. Don't know what it is about it, but that kinda noise just scratches some part of my brain the right way, and this song does it like few else. The synths in this are also fun, and I love the hype energy this has. Just a banger.
3. Fever Dolls - Gennifer Flowers
You can blame @reversalsun for this one, I got it from their playlist for one of their OCs (Anja, the one I made a drink for, as it happens), and it's wormed its way right into my brain. I love the very "theatrical" delivery of the verses with a lot of meat to unpack in the lyrics that's counterbalanced by the shouted chorus: "And if I've got the power to take it (got the power to fake it)/Gennifer Flowers got the power to shake her debasement". Basically, I wanna see the musical this is from, and the fact this band has only a handful of singles is a crime. Thanks Sam!
4. The Hives - Tick Tick Boom
A classic garage rock tune that made its way onto a playlist I put together for Lehon'a's time in Shadowbringers. In my head this soundtracks the final fight with Emet-Selch, with Lehon'a lording her superiority over Emet in the lyrics: "Yeah, I was right all along/Yeah, you were tagging along/Exhibit A: on a tray, what you say as I throw it in your face/Exhibit B: what you see, well it's me I put you back in your place". And that main guitar riff and the iconic "tick tick tick tick tick tick tick BOOM" where everything cuts out just make this song.
5. The 8-Bit Big Band - Can You Feel The Sunshine? (originally from Sonic R)
This one is YouTuber Adam Neely's fault. I decided to rewatch his video on how Video Game Music has spawned its own jazz scene and how it fits into the culture of jazz at large, and this is one of the songs that he helps perform. Just from the snippets in the video, the main hook managed to get trapped in my brain, and now I'm obsessed. The original song is a fantastic eurobeat adjacent track, but this jazz version just adds some extra spice. I especially love the vocalist really showing off towards the end of the number. Highly recommend watching the YouTube video which shows all the performers in the studio playing (and the Adam Neely video too), it's super cool!
Tagging (though no pressure to do it if you're busy or otherwise don't wanna): @reversalsun @zylphiacrowley @ga-keaton @ferrocyan @gatheredfates and any other passers-by who wanna share some cool tunes!

The Colour and the Shape by Foo Fighters
Tumblr media
🔮 the colour and the shape - foo fighters 🔮
welcome back to turntable takes!!! this week we have a request sent from the wonderful, absolutely lovely @lord-of-the-weird !! love you darling <3 things in my life kinda exploded so i am getting to this waaaaayyyyy too late, but here we are!
genres: alternative rock, grunge, hard rock, punk rock
doll
ohhhhh. the soft vocals through that crackly radio filter in the beginning is so beautiful? and the soft strumming of the guitar is so perfect. ‘doll me up in my bad luck / i’ll meet you there’ is suuuch an intriguing line. the introduction of the drums being louder and then backing off as the clear vocals come in? insane. BASS pretty yummy wowowow. god i swear i wanna eat these vocals. oooooooo soft to RASPY!!!
monkey wrench
OH FUCK this one is immediately different!!! huuuuuge guitar moment at the very beginning of it! such a masterful change in tone and tempo. THE FULL STOP. GOD YEAH. these lyrics and the riff that reappears in between the lines??? yum yum yum. i swear the little bit of whine in dave’s voice especially during the chorus is soooooooo lovely it’s so perfect for the song i think especially when his voice is so raspy for a lot of the song??? OHHH stripped back layered vocals on the ‘temper’ repeated lines?? DAVE SCREAMING? god this fucks!!!! so cathartic!!!!! and right back to the chorus??? perfect. the drums are so solid and the bass and guitar work so well together this FUCKS! adore the repeating ‘fall in fall out’ parts!!
hey, johnny park!
ohoHO drum breakdown to begin. scrumptious. guitars joining in sooooo well with so much crunch??? lovely. OOOOO stripping back the heavy guitars dave’s voice is SHINING with the strumming guitar n full bass. drums there just enough to notice and love. BACK to the heavier instrumentals with soft vocals that move into rasp??? WHEW. also these lyrics hurt as well!!! it’s such an emotive album so far but it’s SO good? OH little falsetto moment in the layered backing vocals. TRULY living for the slight whine in his voice i’m TELLING you. oooooooo cute lil guitar moment. the lead is so Clear and it’s just breaking out of the muddy bass and rhythm. DRUM BREAK AGAIN. RASPIER HEAVIER VOCS this is insane!
my poor brain
oh SHUT UP fade in to this song????? INCREDIBLE. that was SICK!! chaotic distortion of the instrumental and then a quick flip to soft strumming and a nice bassline??? HIGHER VOCALS that kinda melt into the instruments a little bit??? TO HARD HEAVY GUITAR BASS DRUMS and then BACK TO SOFT????????? FOO FIGHTERS ULTIMATE KINGS OF SWITCHING UP THE VIBE !!!! AGAIN this heavy chorus is INSANE and tbh… the drums are doing it for me so much. OOO cute lil electrical/phone(?) noises during a screaming breakdown. lead guitar higher just melting into the mud of the bass n drums so nicely. ‘sometimes i wish that i could change / i can’t save you from my poor brain’ oowwwwwwwwww. this ending instrumental fucks!
wind up
OH. OH YOURE KIDDING. yummy yummy warbling guitar with heavy drums and a SICK riff. this melody too is so cool with the little descending notes?? yum. SCREAM BABYGIRL. truly this is really cool to see how they play with pitch and melody to set the tone??? because the chorus is a bit softer and the instrumentals are more stripped back. DISTORTION AGAIN OOOOOIHHHJ i love when guitar starts Bleating at me like it’s truly TRULY A FAVOURITE THING. MORE SCREAMING GO BABE !!!!
up in arms
oooooooooo fuzzy guitar immediately yummy. soft!!!! slightly echoey vocals and a Very grungy feel with the music until they get stripped back again. yummmmmmm the fuzz is so nice. NO FUCKING WAY. DRUM BREAKDOWN INTO FASTER HARDER GUITAR THIS FUCKS!!!! his voice still between soft n hardcore it’s so scratching the brain. THE WHINE. FUCK YEAHHHHHH. MMMHM. oooooo FUCK GUITAR SOLO THIS FUCKS. feels like a teen movie tbh. niiiiice stripped back ending with some drum beats to break it up
my hero
DRUMS BASS SHINING IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS INSANELY GOOD FOR ME. oooo sexy lil riff. the chorus and the construction of the melody is so intriguing and the lyrics KILL. emotional guitar and you can feel it in the vocals so well!! oooooh. the lil turn of the guitar going slightly flat was such a yummy choice. nah this is so COOL. TEMPO INSTRUMENTAL VOCALS PICKING UP FOR SOME HEAVINESS. scrumptious. this lil ascending riff is sooooo good. oooooo distorted guitar noodling to finish it
see you
acoustic???? moment????? oooooo this is insane. this feels SO GOOD. oh my god. BASS IS SO CLEAR THIS IS IT FOR ME. whine is back and i’m so happy but he has such range and control on these vocs??? oooo instruments picking up slightly. lil more distortion. stripped back down. is this an upright bass also??? it sounds so much like one i’m not sure. LAYERED VOCALS LETS GO!!!! this is really pretty actually :’)
enough space
DISTORTION LETS GOOOOO i love songs that start with some funky noises. SHUT UP THIS BASS IS SO FAT N CRUNCHY this is for ME! heavy guitars let’s GO!!! we’re so back <3 OH that bass is so fucking clear i love it here. scrumptious. RASP YELL SCREAM !!!!! yeah yeah yeahhhhhh. nah they’re tooooo good at switching the tempo. chorus is when shit starts picking up and it reaches that crescendo and is stripped back so immediately after and soooooo well. looooove this guitar as well. insane. so warbled and muddy. fucks HARD all throughout. sharp cut off. great.
february stars
stoooooop are you fucking with me???? isolated piano???? soft vocals????? LAYERED VOCALS?????????? guitar entered. bASS THERE YOU ARE. THE SOOOOOFT SOFT DRUMS so sharp n perfect. YES okay we’re getting more clear slightly rougher but still so stripped back. it’s so intriguing to me how versatile this band is!!! also these lyrics are making me SAD !!!!!!! god my love for this bass in this album cannot be overstated. SHUT UP THEY PICKED IT UP ITS SO GRUNGE POWER BALLAD. SLIGHT DISTORTION ON THE GUITARS SO GRIMY SO BEAUTIFUL. goated lyrics i’m in love.
everlong
ooooooooo. OHHHHH. bass drums guitar absolutely melting together beautifully?? the start is so dark and velvety and it progressively gets a little sharper. druuuuums. gorgeous. and these lyrics might actually kill me im SO SAD. also wowow the whine is so back!! also booold choice of including what sounds like vocalizing with the other instruments and it absolutely worked. this is so truly cathartic i’m gonna go scream sing this to myself at 3am. WHISPERING THROUGH THE RADIO FILTER WITH BASS N GUITAR AND THEN IT ABSOLUTELY BREAKS INTO SOARING INSTEUMENTALS AGAIN. come ON!!!! CHORD TO END IT. ohgh.
walking after you
acoustic guitar strumming beautifully with just the loveliest lyrics. there’s something along with the guitar that’s just a little darker and deeper and it does feel so nice. very grunge very beautiful. cymbals slowly phasing in. yummy. they sneak up and its beautiful!!! these vocals too are so insane to me. so gentle so evocative!!! they truly can do it all. why is my heart breaking at this album i haven’t even gone through a breakup like ?!!?!! sorry again so entranced by these cymbal runs. yum. guitar is nice and jangly at some parts but so soaring and clear too?? god.
new way home
WE ARE BACK EVERYBODY!!! fun lil electric guitar riff with some western jangle in it. love. love how raspy n beautiful the vocals are. this sounds much more alt rock than some of the other ones and that is COOL i love it!!!! fun lil bass lines in my eeaaarrrrssssss. so good. oh???? OH?????? whispering with almost completely stripped back instrumental. gradual crescendo with some light higher strumming of a guitar??? this is SICK???? OH SHIT THEYRE SPEEDING UP!!!! TEMPO CHANGE FOLKS!!!! SCREEEAMMM IT OUT WOOOOO!!!! this is so COOL!!! once again insanely evocative but it feels like acceptance to me which is so fascinating and SUCH A WAY to start closing out the album. OOOOOOOOOO lower pitched guitar just beautifully playing and soaring so clearly above the instrumental. FADE OUT !!! LIFE CHANGED!!!!
the colour and the shape
HIGH DISTORTED NOODLING GUITAR TO LOW. SCREAMING. BASS IS INSANE HERE. GOD WHAT????? this is so SICK??? LET IT OUT BESTIE !!!! GOD drums also insane right now just loud enough to be caught and it’s melding so well with everything. CYMBALS. woooooow!!! SHAPE SHAPE SHAPE SHAPE SHAPE!!!! okay i know i said acceptance but this is FULLY a fit of anger and i LOVE IT!!! ohhhhohoho. feedback from the guitar to fade us out. INSANE. ENERGIZING. BATSHIT. wow.
thoughts: foo fighters truly kings of changing up the tone and brightness of the song. like fully switching from gentle strumming and piano to fully-fledged hard rock. muddy grimy guitars and bass to light and flowing power ballad moments. screaming to falsetto!!! how. wonderful. also they’re just so intriguing and creative with riffs and melodies that it’s so lovely to listen and see where the song goes! this album is truly breakup album ever. WOW. thank you kk for changing my neurochemical structure.

i love u kata <3
tinariwen's entire album emmaar is very dear to me, but especially tahalamot, the rolling motion of the song is very soothing to listen to
black dog - led zeppelin, it's been on my roadtrip playlist for years and never fails me
tusk - fleetwood mac, not their most representative song but the drums at the beginning are so good i love them and the jumping rhythms are really fun
meticulous bird - thao & the get down stay down, again, that's the first album i listened to so it's dear to me but this song especially has been a regular in my playlists since u recommended her to me <3
as for some of my current fav :] all of these scratch my brain in just the right way
exuvia - caparezza: obsessed with this song, it's so.... and! it's an overall theme of cicada/the shed skin so i think u might enjoy it especially :]
судно - молчат дома: the drone like sound is nice to listen to, especially on the train
hayloft - mother mother: it's so catchy, been in my head for weeks now

nat rants about a tiny part of a fnaf song part 3930230238294 here's a few random things i really like in random fnaf songs (specifically instrumental-wise)
break my mind (dagames)
right before the chorus, during the "forced down to reckoning" - "you shout" there's like a weird chime sounding thing and it just sounds so nice awfesdfifh
monsters (kyle allen music)
throughout the song there's like this weird vibrating sound?? you know the asmr of like two glass vials of water being knocked together and vibrating? that's what it sounds like, and it scratches my brain just right
into the pit (kyle allen music)
the instrumental of the chorus intensifies every time the chorus plays, most noticeably at the end when it's repeated twice (the final run of the chorus has the best instrumental by far)
join the party (dagames)
i just really like the keychange on the final run of the chorus, that's it, it just sounds really nice
enjoy the show (natewantstobattle)
i can't tell if my hearing is shit but the way "sight" and "up" blend (verse 1, lines 4/5) is just really satisfying to hear that weird autotune-sounding riff also scratches my brain nicely
that's all i can think of for now ty very much for reading
feel free to send in fnaf songs for my opinion on them if you want lmao

THANK YOU CHASE so so so much for sharing all these songs, I thoroughly enjoyed every single one and feel very emotional after listening to all of them. Also I’m so sorry for how long my breakdowns of each song are, please don’t feel like you have to read all of them! Also I apologise as the further down it goes the longer the reviews get, I was getting really fuckin into it and by the final song I was really just in the zone.
I’m going to give your Spotify a follow now too and a lot of these songs are being added to my regular playlist so thank you <3
spring break 1899
- amazing vocals, love the tune and lyrics. It’s so full of emotion and I feel like I’m watching everything happen in slow motion like in a fight scene from a movie? If that makes sense? It’s so haunting and beautiful. I’m currently reading no country for old men and a lot of the lyrics feel so applicable to the book. Really amazing song I feel changed after listening to it, thank you so much for sharing this one
Cheer up Charlie
- I really enjoyed this song!! The lyrics were so emotional and there was so much hurt in the words and in their voice, like they’re carrying a lot of sadness and grief for the person being written about about. I also loved the guitar in this song, amazing riffs <3
Hungry ghost
- Off the bat the vocals are beautiful, I knew I’d enjoy this song which I did! Very relatable lyrics and such a beautiful way of expressing things I struggled with voicing in the past. A song that makes me feel less alone and brings comfort to a younger self
Voice
- That fact about the pre-recorded lyric he can no longer sing made me appreciate this song so much more, it feels really special to be able to listen to something that feels so personal. Both of little stars songs have been a beautiful experience so thank you for sharing it with me
Like green Jheri curl
- Fuck this song was so sad to listen to. “Did I do something wrong?” Is such a gut punch. Knowing there’s so many kids out there who were so alienated and made to feel like they weren’t being themselves the right way is so upsetting and conveyed so well in this song. ALSO the drumming in the last few seconds was just really enjoyable and a solid ending to an amazing track
WTF is sleep
- The lyrics “it’s too easy to be hard on yourself” and “finding comfort in feeling like hell” just really hit deep down, and I absolutely understand why those are some of the lines you also mentioned as they are something very relatable. Also the lyric “set no alarm cause I am totally guaranteed to wake to my chest beating miles ahead of me” is something I deal with on the regular with my anxiety and I’ve never had someone describe it in such an accurate way before. Fantastic song I really loved this one
When
- dodie has always been such an amazing artist and shaped so much of my teenage years. This song has always been such an emotional one and filled with relevant lyrics. I’ve always loved “I’ll take what I can get, cause I’m too damp for a spark”, because a lot of my first relationships definitely felt like I was just happy to be liked by someone despite how uninteresting I am. That’s changed a lot now but it still is something my 16 year old self can connect to
Institutionalized
- LOVED this song holy fuck. Another song that I really get. The entire verse about his mum and the drug accusations were really something I connect with and something I’m still coming to terms with and still hold resentment over as I had a lot of instances while living at home where conversations similar to this happened frequently. Really good song and the anger in his voice and the buildup before the chorus each time just really scratched an itch in my brain. Also from reading your comment under the song, I hope you’re doing okay in the residential and getting the support you need <3
People li: the reckoning
- The feeling this song evoked in me bro. like someone singing about these experiences is so amazing and the way it’s sung is just. so incredibly good. the lyrics “everything is real but it’s also just as fake. From your daughters birthday party to your grandmothers wake” is something that I deal with every single day with depersonalisation, and even experiencing my own grandmas funeral while suffering from depersonalisation just made it feel very personal and just the whole song was just a really good one to listen to and so well written
I spent the winter writing songs about getting better
- God man this one was a lot. “Making  me in your image with the parts that people hate” was a big fucking YEA you get it. And “who the fuck am I to tell you it gets better” was a really emotional one. After years and years of being told by people that it will get better and feeling like I couldn’t be sad around them after that because they had pretty much told me to not be depressed anymore because one day I won’t be depressed, and resenting people for it, it’s really comforting to hear someone say the opposite. The final lyrics “Even if there’s a grand scheme and these moments don’t mean anything I want to collect them to remind myself that life still can still grab me I want to remember that there are moments where I’m capable of being so fucking happy” made me tear up a lil I can’t lie lmao. This song was really something and I enjoyed every minute of it
im SOOOOOOOOO glad you enjoyed the songs holy shit!! thank u for your review, i loved reading all of your thoughts on these songs. it is such a fun thing for me when i share music with people and get to be able to hear their thoughts about it, especially when i make a playlist for someone or just one for me or that season or that year that i end up sharing with my friends that we end up talking about.
i'm working on my 2024 chasecore playlist now, a liiiitle late into the year but better now than never, right? i think i'll add most if not all of these songs to the beginning of the playlist and branch off from there.
thank you for sharing so much !!! to me, this is what music is about. music to me is about connection and sharing and community. i love sharing music, i love playing music with people, regardless of what level they're at at guitar, i'll just mess around with them, because what's fun about it is just that connection. and having that creative energy shared between people.
i'm glad that i've been able to share that creative energy with you.
as a little treat, :3, here's some songs that've just been swirling in my brain to listen to today. i haven't done it yet but i will tonight.
love this song and the metaphor it's tellng. also it's suuuuuch a winter album to me. gonna do another song from this album too
love this one a lot too. i love listening to la dispute lyrics and just pulling up genius while listening to them to get the whole perspective on the storyline of the song, album, and the callbacks that it has to the previous album.
they're not everyone's vibe, but i like their kind of sing/scream/spoken word vocals a lot. it's unique, and the combo with the instrumentals (specifically the guitars) doing elaborate things in the background is so nice to be able to focus on.
i was gonna keep digging thru my spotify but i'd be here typing for an eternity. i hope u enjoy these little songy songs! and thank u for sharing your thoughts.
we could make a little chain of this if you want, where i send u stuff for you to review and you do vice versa, i think that'd be fun if you're interested in that :3 if not it's ok tho!
ok i done now byeeee

CD05 - Prequelle
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the moment of just letting go
Prequelle is the red Ghost album. It's incredibly good. When I first got into Ghost, one of my favourite songs of theirs was Life Eternal (that song is absolutely magnificent but we'll get to her later). I didn't know much about them when I went to see Franz Ferdinand but before the show, my friend and I went to a book/music store (as one does). I gasped. "Ghost", I gasped. My friend said, I quote, "Hm?" I grabbed the first album I could put my hands on, (this one, would you believe it), and answered "Ghost. Ghost is good.". And we left and saw Franz Ferdinand.
Since then I got way more acquainted with the band and bought any album I could find because I am a very passionate person. Anyways I'm feeling a bit insane tonight and so I shall listen to the album in its entirity and tell you about the songs as they play, though when the song ends, I shall stop typing. You have my word. This is about to be very interesting. Yes. Interesting is the word. No one bored or unamused here. Let's go guys gals and funks!
Ashes: It's spooky. I do like when the drums kick in. And the little melodie that sounds like spoksonat. Good. I love a good intro me. SYNTHS!! Rats: Okay I need to talk about this song more than I need air. First of all, it's called rats, it's about rats (but not literally) and I love that. One thing about me is I will appreciate the drums on that song. Insane. "Rats! Oh whoah oah" So true bestie. The solo is flawless. I love the start. I love the middle. I love the end. Except I don't really because I wish it would go on forever. Now. Here comes the best part of the song. The outro. Honestly, the Rats outro has NO RIGHT!! being this sexy. I need to smooch it. I need to sniff it, lick it, tell it I love it. (if you got that reference, call me) Faith: INSANE SONG ALERT! I actually used to skip that one. I do not know why. I think I didn't like the intro. What a dumb bitch I was. I love this song a lot, a lot lot. The guitar sounds so good. The guitar part after the first "Because faith is mine" is so cool. And the stink part is so cool as well. This is just a really cool song I think. Yes. TULULULULULULU also this outro part pretty See The Light: Actual pissed anthem. The verses are so classy and elegant and then bOOM we are here to lick some serious butt! (kick aziraphale it's kick butt for heaven's sake) (can't believe i just said that) Also I do love a good synth solo. I don't actually know if it's synths, but it sounds like synths so. Don't know guys. Miasma: Iconic instrumental, I do not make the rules, it is so fun! The way the drums kick in in the beginning!! The bass line!! Yes!! Also +1 kazoo point, it is incredibly fun to kazoo. Having Papa Nihil be resurrected every time they play it live for the sax solo is a master move. It's really good. I can't describe my favourite part but it's out there and it's glorious. I love Miasma. Dance Macabre: Wobble wobble time! The sheer vibes communicated through the rythm. The little piano notes. It's so good. Wow these posts really are an opportunity for me to show off my amazing vocabulary aren't they. Anyway. It's so good. It's a dancey song, not possible to not vibe. Yes. Pro Memoria: Bloody love the piano and the way more and more instruments join in, really keen on that in songs. AND THE VIOLINS!! (again, are they violins or do I not know my instruments.) Witch Image: Rad title. That pre-chorus scratches my brain in the best way (especially the one where the backing vocals go higher on "over"). And the guitar riff in the chorus… yes please. Obsessed with the way he sings "white horse". QUICK DRUM SOLO!! Helvetesfönster: Oh yeah this is a beautiful piece of music. What does Tobias put in his instrumentals. It's such a trip to pretty land (it's too late for me to make sense shut up this song's melodies are on point is what i'm trying to say). Gosh. <- Me, listening to Helvetesfönster by Ghost. Life Eternal: This song has made me cry more than once, and those high piano notes at the end are to blame. Instrumentally this song is extremly precious and graceful. And the lyrics and his voice only add to that. It's a beautiful song, very dear to me, makes me feel emotions, and I think that's beautiful.
I'd like to add something about second and third Ghost tracks. Tracks 2 & 3 of Ghost albums make me go absolutely wild. If you know you know. If you don't know, I don't know what to tell you man, listen to them perhaps? Maybe? Would you do that for me? Okay. The love I have for this band is immense. toodles

Baby, can I be close to you?/Baby, you're all I wanna do
You got me coming for ya
I wanna start a fight/Just to see if you're mine/Or have I crossed a line? (Come back)/You play your cards right/I might let you inside/You make me wanna die
Nothing scratches my brain more pleasantly than thee perfect guitar riff — like Coming For Ya! At 0:48 and again at 1:42 the guitar comes in and I just lose. my. mind!! This is the perfect driving-to-the-beach-with-the-windows-down song (I know because I’ve done exactly that).
It’s giving modern AU where Kate’s the lead guitarist/vocalist in a band, and Anthony gets dragged to a show of hers by Eloise, and then… oh no. I’m having ideas

ugh ok that poll i reblogged made me listen to UUFO again and i didnt realize it's been like a few months since i listened to it in full FKKEDN (ok this got long so it's under a cut now)
every song ive just been going "OMG I LOVE THIS SONG" DJAKDJEK IM NORMAL IM NORMAL
i know its cringe to like a camellia album this much but uufo is like. a culmination of a LOT of the things i like, and all of camellias experience leading up to that point yk.. and so much love and effort went into it from so many different people.. auuuughhh
every part of the album comes together... i LOVE albums with a theme and this one is PARANORMAL OCCURENCES and URBAN LEGENDS and shit ITS EVERYTHING I LOVE!! the different pieces of album art... ufo girl... wauuuu wauuuu cries sobs
idc if its uncritical and cringe to love every song i do what i want. i dont rly care abt if a song is structurally good as long as it makes me happy it goes hard (and all of them make me happy)
the website.. so pretty...
ok im gonna go to bed after doinf this but heres a few tracks i want to ramble abt (i wish i could do all of the tracks but i wont (FOR NOW...))
for the longest time buzzbox was my favorite song LOL. it was one of my first songs on the album and the russian bass/hardcore mix is just SO good. idk why i liked it so much honestly, its not rly what i LISTEN to yk. i have a fond memory of making my geometry teacher listen to it in 10th grade and she never let me pick a class song again. SHE LIKED EDM TOO I THOUGHT SHE'D GET IT </33
obviously ghoul is amazing. no notes. everyone loves that song.
OOPARTS IS A BONUS TRACK ON THIS ALBUM. OOPARTS. OF COURSE IT'S GOOD
speaking of the muzzle facing.. god idk. the melodic metal undertones. i LOVE a big variety in musical textures and this song just SCRATCHES my DAMN BRAIN. the part where it goes *metal guitar riff* *oingo boingo ass scratching noises* ANDJWJDJEJD IM NORMAL (at 1:37)
POLYBIUS GB IS SO GOOD. the way every section of the song builds on eachother AUGH. the final drop with the chiptune/extratone. CAMELLIA AND HIS EXTRATONEY FINAL DROPS ARE SO GOOD WAUUU WAAAA
a lot of what i feel abt polybius gb ALSO applies to final blenderman!!!! except final blenderman has WAYY more electric guitar YEAHHHH!! camellia final drops. the shift from rock guitar to chiptune melody, and an extratoneish finale,, reminds me a bit of million pp actually? haha. it miiiight be my favorite song? it outranked buzzbox a while ago but tbh this place might be slipping for like, the muzzle facing.
i actually didnt like myths you forgot as much as the other tracks when i first listened to it.. idk why? maybe bc it was a little slower? past me has no taste bc this track is so layered. and good. thanks toby fox
artcore is usually an "eh, its good" for me (i have a lot of artcore i enjoy, like fallen symphony) but #1f1e33 is different.. just felt like pointing it out (esp since this album has a longer version of it) like! i never felt BORED! every section builds! and has interesting auditory textures! lol. ig thats how u keep my attention (not that "being boring" is inherently bad ofc)
i have really fond memories of listening to microwave-proof cat in like, 10th/9th grade... sighh that song is so fun. the main melody's texture is just so bouncy. kisses it.
OKAY. DAMN. its 3. i need to go to bed. i'd love to continue rambling abt this though. maybe later.
as of right now my favorite camellia song (outside of this album) is parallel universe shifter :3c yeah, like, his most recent 7 minute song. of course its good. idk just.. it has all the things i like in it. i'd love to be able to one day make music like this song specifically. but point is, it has all of my favorite musical things.. in it. idk how to explain it. the name too. its super personal to me LOL. and the references and callbacks in the song. so tasty
ig another 8+ track edm album i like is also good evening hollowood... can you tell i love paranormal/halloween themed albums. JK LOL the songs in that album have nothing to do with that. while im talking abt t+pazolite i like ponko2 girlish too.. maybe ill dedicate a post to that if i get bored.
OK FOR REAL NOW ILL STOP. BYE

🔮 la folie - the stranglers 🔮
welcome back to turntable takes, folks!!! hope everyone’s doing wonderfully <3 this week (said so very loosely. i underestimated how hard it would be to do them every week but that’s on ME!) we have a gem <3 i know 2 songs off of it and they constantly occupy my mind! so! if you’re checking this out, thank you!! and hope you enjoy <3 once again i am very musically illiterate and don’t know theory!! this is me going AWOOGA!!!
also i’m not including the bonus tracks off the reissue because i’m TIRED. SLEEPY EVEN. but they’re also really good!
genres: new wave, punk rock, baroque pop
non stop
okay immediately loving the lil tippy tappy drums with a little echo that fade in! cute lil organ lick that is so fun!! i’m also a big fan of talk-singing when done in a sexy way and this is that! GUITAR crunchy echoing bass coming in. OH those drums fuck. this is just so fun!!! very sarcastic singing its scratching my brain!! and the guitars are so cheeky. layered vocals crescendo in volume cute like harmonies??? ooooo stripping it back then speeding up going louder again is such a choice i love it here. CHANGING TEMPO let’s go!!!
everybody loves you when you’re dead
ohhhhhh god i love the keys intro here. bass is sexy and so clear and i’m in love. the odd pitches with the guitar is so nice ! yummy drums!!! synthy business! punky talk vocals with layering going on is so good and these lyrics kinda make me feel insane. god that keyboard part and odd wavering synth in the background is so nice. harsh cymbal type sounds YUM! PICK IT UP LETS GOOOO cute lil tempo change and then right back to it!! ohhhhh slow little breakdown descending in pitch
tramp
OHHHH. flat guitar really interesting here. WITH BUZZING KEYBOARD AND BASS ????? drums are really!!! OOOOOH an instrumental soundscape baby!!! i love these vocals he’s got a great voice very punky and when he pitches up it’s really pretty??? also love the return to the darker sounds during the chorus? BASSSSSSS AH GOD !!!!! love the speed and the experimental nature of the chorus !!! 80s video game synth yummy. there’s something so dancy about this and god the vibrato and INSANELY nice drums????
let me introduce you to the family
OH FAST DRUMS LETS GO!!! ooooo this bass? is it bass? descending thing is so intriguing! faaaast guitar playing a really fun ear catching riff that’s like. this really is so experimental here. okay there’s some freddie m rasp at some parts which are really interesting and then the harmonies and layering of the vocals in the chorus are crazy! that bass is so consistent and so clear and great!!! ohhhh switch up that RIFF babes!!! it’s all very like buzzy fuzzy yum! ohhh TURN up the volume on the vocals add another lil keyboard thing this is sooooooo intricate!! ECHO on the voice for the fade-out ending with a drum beat to end everything!
ain’t nothin’ to it
ohhhhh that guitar is yummy. drums go hard in this beginning. BASS I HEAR YOU BABY YOU SHINE!! these vocals are so fun and sassy!! oh that odd lil dissonance in parts of this song is so cool??? and the lil changes in riffs and pitches sound really cool <3 ohhhhh BREAKDOWN lets gooooooo!!!! fuck it up instrumental section!!! BASS AND DRUMS ONLY OH LETS GO!!! this is really cool i’m obsessed. ohhhhh????? ohhhhhhhhhhhhh guitar little staccato notes??? this repeating instrumental part is so intriguing colour feel taste wise??? it’s so dark and a little unsettling with the occasional flatness but it’s nice????
the man they love to hate
BUZZY KEYS LETS GO !!! god. goddddd. that bass goes so hard. ohhhh crunchy soar on that guitar is so nice. drums going HARD. echoing lil keys are fun!! talk vocals as always are so fun !!! PITCH UP LETS GO !!! uplift meeee !!! back to the really punchy instrumentals on top of those buzzy keys that add such an interesting texture!! some little sweeping synthy kind of cymbal effect? ohhhhh. this is so fun !!! also the little whispered backing vox are fuuuuucking scrumptious! oh jesus it’s getting darker babes…… in tone in lyrics and then right back to light???? what in the world how is this this way. GUITAR FUCK IT UP cute lil solo! ohhhhh PLAYING WITH SHADE AGAIN THIS IS SO…… those lowest instrumental notes are so deep and fat and intriguing.
pin up
fucking insane drums i love you. ohhh??? xylophone-esque twinkly keys? GUITAR THERE YOU ARE BABY! sounds crunchy and thin but in such an atmospheric way! the “oooohhh”s are really nice with the bit of reverb on it??? this is such a fun little song? those twinkly xylophone sounds are back i love!!! the instruments are so so good at melding together so that those lil keys are picked out of the fold so well???
it only takes two to tango
ohhhhhhhh this is such a fun little intro… i don’t know what the name of this stylistic choice is but it’s like someone swinging you around with the drums bass guitar and then you get layered talk vocals with a BEAUTIFUL ascending like… quartet harmony going on. this is so fun!!! warbling keys again they’re so good at atmospheric sounds here. also sorry those harmonies are needed inside my bloodstream stat! OH KEY CHANGE! uh ohhhhh bestie the dissonance is back in the vocals but not in the instrumental i kinda love the effect??? faaaaaaat guitar just swingin around <3 OH the warbling is so interesting looking slightly more haunting as it progresses! LITTLE DRUMMER BOY GOING OFF WITH A FUN LIL HIGHER PLUCKED GUITAR RIFF? this is so….
golden brown
THIS IS MY BABY ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SONGS !!!!!! HARPSICHORD WHAT THE FUCK!!!! also with a bassy keyboard behind it! god his vocals in this are so buttery so yummy with just a hint of nasality? also god this fuckin time signature is all fucked the harpsichord is playing in a completely different time. bass and drums come into the fold so carefully subtly it’s beautiful. everything is just a little heavier but it’s still so light and mysterious and plain cool??? guitarrrrrrrrrrrr oh the reverby echo???? this solo always gets me !!!! ohhhhhh vocalisation that’s so echoey and sooooooo otherworldly is insane. the deepness and the layering of it is Fucked. this is truly such a soundscape AGAIN! chu bee fair idk how they’re so in sync when the times are so different.
how to find love and happiness in the present day
ohhhhhh this is different. screechy little synthy things going on to more spoken vocals with an insane lil bass trying going on? so sectioned with the vocals and instruments it’s really cool!!! the layering of the guitar pitches are so nice. AH TWANGY GUITAR mixed with some bongo vibes!!!! nah this is so fun!!! ohhhh these lil drum things sound like trickling raindrops. not sure what exactly they are but it adds such a cool effect. god that high frequency synth solo what the fuck !!!!! so insane so sick!!! ohhhh it fluctuates so nicely and smoothly between notes. descending vocal line with fuzz and partially covered by the instrumentals TO A FADEOUT
la folie
Oh This Is Grand. this intro is so beautiful???? what sounds like strings (made with keyboard) with a high smooth guitar part with echoey reverb and bass. OH ITS A SPOKEN PART IN FRENCH. beautiful. these words are so lonely and beautiful too and that’s conveyed so well with the effects placed on the voice itself? drums………. god this is so twin peaks right now !!!! DEEP SUNG VOCALS WHISPERING. back to spoken word with the bass getting a deeper sweeping moment??? oh beautiful deep staccato notes. there’s such a cool effect put on his voice this is….. really cool. the stringy synths really paint the background of this with colour. OHHHH high synthy parts joining the mix in a fun little flourish!!!! that bass…….. is so genuinely yummy holy goooood. spoken word so cinematic and lovely. the “la folie” being sung so deeply and whispery is so nice and comforting….. i love this. beauty guitar part at the end so soft so nice so echoey. drums holding down the fort so well UGH.
thoughts: okay. okay. i was genuinely surprised at how varied and genuinely INTERESTING this album was? like the tempo variations the key changes the instruments used the shifting parts the vocals and the USE of all of it to set tone? the tone itself was also so insane and has to be mentioned because there was so much interplay with shadow and light in each song?????????? incredible. i know talk-singing isn’t for everyone but i think it’s cinematic and cheeky and fun so i loved it. l o v e d. genuinely surprised at this guys!!!

radiohead
I had never even seen a shooting star before. 25 years of rotations, passes through comets' paths, and travel, and to my memory I had never witnessed burning debris scratch across the night sky. Radiohead were hunched over their instruments. Thom Yorke slowly beat on a grand piano, singing, eyes closed, into his microphone like he was trying to kiss around a big nose. Colin Greenwood tapped patiently on a double bass, waiting for his cue. White pearls of arena light swam over their faces. A lazy disco light spilled artificial constellations inside the aluminum cove of the makeshift stage. The metal skeleton of the stage ate one end of Florence's Piazza Santa Croce, on the steps of the Santa Croce Cathedral. Michelangelo's bones and cobblestone laid beneath. I stared entranced, soaking in Radiohead's new material, chiseling each sound into the best functioning parts of my brain which would be the only sound system for the material for months.
The butterscotch lamps along the walls of the tight city square bled upward into the cobalt sky, which seemed as strikingly artificial and perfect as a wizard's cap. The staccato piano chords ascended repeatedly. "Black eyed angels swam at me," Yorke sang like his dying words. "There was nothing to fear, nothing to hide." The trained critical part of me marked the similarity to Coltrane's "Ole." The human part of me wept in awe.
The Italians surrounding me held their breath in communion (save for the drunken few shouting "Criep!"). Suddenly, a rise of whistles and orgasmic cries swept unfittingly through the crowd. The song, "Egyptian Song," was certainly momentous, but wasn't the response more apt for, well, "Creep?" I looked up. I thought it was fireworks. A teardrop of fire shot from space and disappeared behind the church where the syrupy River Arno crawled. Radiohead had the heavens on their side.
For further testament, Chip Chanko and I both suffered auto-debilitating accidents in the same week, in different parts of the country, while blasting "Airbag" in our respective Japanese imports. For months, I feared playing the song about car crashes in my car, just as I'd feared passing 18- wheelers after nearly being crushed by one in 1990. With good reason, I suspect Radiohead to possess incomprehensible powers. The evidence is only compounded with Kid A-- the rubber match in the band's legacy-- an album which completely obliterates how albums, and Radiohead themselves, will be considered.
Even the heralded OK Computer has been nudged down one spot in Valhalla. Kid A makes rock and roll childish. Considerations on its merits as "rock" (i.e. its radio fodder potential, its guitar riffs, and its hooks) are pointless. Comparing this to other albums is like comparing an aquarium to blue construction paper. And not because it's jazz or fusion or ambient or electronic. Classifications don't come to mind once deep inside this expansive, hypnotic world. Ransom, the philologist hero of C.S. Lewis' Out of the Silent Planet who is kidnapped and taken to another planet, initially finds his scholarship useless in his new surroundings, and just tries to survive the beautiful new world.
This is an emotional, psychological experience. Kid A sounds like a clouded brain trying to recall an alien abduction. It's the sound of a band, and its leader, losing faith in themselves, destroying themselves, and subsequently rebuilding a perfect entity. In other words, Radiohead hated being Radiohead, but ended up with the most ideal, natural Radiohead record yet.
"Everything in Its Right Place" opens like Close Encounters spaceships communicating with pipe organs. As your ears decide whether the tones are coming or going, Thom Yorke's Cuisinarted voice struggles for its tongue. "Everything," Yorke belts in uplifting sighs. The first-person mantra of "There are two colors in my head" is repeated until the line between Yorke's mind and the listener's mind is erased.
Skittering toy boxes open the album's title song, which, like the track "Idioteque," shows a heavy Warp Records influence. The vocoder lullaby lulls you deceivingly before the riotous "National Anthem." Mean, fuzzy bass shapes the spine as unnerving theremin choirs limn. Brash brass bursts from above like Terry Gilliam's animated foot. The horns swarm as Yorke screams, begs, "Turn it off!" It's the album's shrill peak, but just one of the incessant goosebumps raisers.
After the rockets exhaust, Radiohead float in their lone orbit. "How to Disappear Completely" boils down "Let Down" and "Karma Police" to their spectral essence. The string-laden ballad comes closest to bridging Yorke's lyrical sentiment to the instrumental effect. "I float down the Liffey/ I'm not here/ This isn't happening," he sings in his trademark falsetto. The strings melt and weep as the album shifts into its underwater mode. "Treefingers," an ambient soundscape similar in sound and intent to Side B of Bowie and Eno's Low, calms after the record's emotionally strenuous first half.
The primal, brooding guitar attack of "Optimistic" stomps like mating Tyrannosaurs. The lyrics seemingly taunt, "Try the best you can/ Try the best you can," before revealing the more resigned sentiment, "The best you can is good enough." For an album reportedly "lacking" in traditional Radiohead moments, this is the best summation of their former strengths. The track erodes into a light jam before morphing into "In Limbo." "I'm lost at sea," Yorke cries over clean, uneasy arpeggios. The ending flares with tractor beams as Yorke is vacuumed into nothingness. The aforementioned "Idioteque" clicks and thuds like Aphex Twin and Bjork's Homogenic, revealing brilliant new frontiers for the "band." For all the noise to this point, it's uncertain entirely who or what has created the music. There are rarely traditional arrangements in the ambiguous origin. This is part of the unique thrill of experiencing Kid A.
Pulsing organs and a stuttering snare delicately propel "Morning Bell." Yorke's breath can be heard frosting over the rainy, gray jam. Words accumulate and stick in his mouth like eye crust. "Walking walking walking walking," he mumbles while Jonny Greenwood squirts whale-chant feedback from his guitar. The closing "Motion Picture Soundtrack" brings to mind The White Album, as it somehow combines the sentiment of Lennon's LP1 closer-- the ode to his dead mother, "Julia"-- with Ringo and Paul’s maudlin, yet sincere LP2 finale, "Goodnight." Pump organ and harp flutter as Yorke condones with affection, "I think you're crazy." To further emphasize your feeling at that moment and the album's overall theme, Yorke bows out with "I will see you in the next life." If you're not already there with him.
The experience and emotions tied to listening to Kid A are like witnessing the stillborn birth of a child while simultaneously having the opportunity to see her play in the afterlife on Imax. It's an album of sparking paradox. It's cacophonous yet tranquil, experimental yet familiar, foreign yet womb-like, spacious yet visceral, textured yet vaporous, awakening yet dreamlike, infinite yet 48 minutes. It will cleanse your brain of those little crustaceans of worries and inferior albums clinging inside the fold of your gray matter. The harrowing sounds hit from unseen angles and emanate with inhuman genesis. When the headphones peel off, and it occurs that six men (Nigel Godrich included) created this, it's clear that Radiohead must be the greatest band alive, if not the best since you know who. Breathing people made this record! And you can't wait to dive back in and try to prove that wrong over and over.
