hey!!! this is less of an ask and more of a fic rec tbh 😭 but have you read 'I May be Invisible, but I Still Look Good" by Dandy over on Ao3???? It's after the movie AND Leo-centric and like he gets cursed so his spirit is ripped out of his body. It's like 125k words of wonderful storytelling
OH- but for an actual question, do you have and fic recs?? or any AU's you think people should go check out?

ANYWAY YES I HAVE read this and I absolutely love it with every fiber of my being.❤️ 100% one of my top fics to read in this fandom that I even go back to for a reread more than once. The characters are perfectly done and the set up for the story is believable with a fantastic payoff, highly highly highly recommend to anyone who hasn’t read it yet.❤️
As for recs, I’ve always been terrible at giving recs since my memory is very bad especially for ones I haven’t read in a while.😭 Off the top of my head I can recommend (note these are practically entirely Leo-centric since he’s my special guy you understand (the others aren’t forgotten at all though!!!) - and most of these are very very well known so you’ve likely already read them…):
[Note many of these are unfinished and may remain that way - please no one harass the writers for more, let them write at their own pace if they choose to write at all]
- The Neon Void by sugarpastels is absolutely incredible, the dramatic irony of it all as we follow Leo in the state he’s in and see just how broken all the Hamatos are by his “death” is just 👌👌👌 The fact that this places with one of my favorite tropes aka “Leo being in the Prison Dimension longer than canon” is just so good. Genuinely a thoroughly gripping tale that I highly recommend. It’s not complete yet (a lot of this list isn’t) but what is there is so amazing please read (though you most likely have read it already haha)
- little kid with a big death wish and firefight by remrose are another two you’ve likely seen but by god are they worth the read. Firefight isn’t done yet but it and death wish are so amazingly well written and really go into how trauma affects people differently and how ties with family can be tested in traumatic situations. Hard subjects definitely but very maturely done. (Also I misread firefight as firelight for way too long before I realized it-)
- Power Up and Times Five by pickedcarrotsandradish are both unfinished but I can’t care because what we were given is so good that I’m fine with them as they are. Both deal with Leo’s insecurities and bad feelings about himself and, very importantly, the fics go into how these insecurities establish a base for Leo’s very real flaws and how those flaws push him to act the way he does. Very interesting and compelling stuff here!! Power Up especially does really cool things for the boys’ mystic power ups, especially Leo’s, and I loved reading about the ins and outs of what they could do.
- Race Against Life, Death, and the EPF by Cass_Phoenix is just so engaging to read??? Like I love the entire set up for it - it’s feels so fresh and like you’re in Leo’s desperate situation yourself. I was so excited whenever a new chapter came out because the atmosphere was so well done.
- A Mixed Bag by GreatlyBlessed is SHOCKINGLY not Leo-centric for once haha. It’s not completed, but again, like the others above it is so good that I recommend it anyway. This story is actually a crossover between four sets of TMNT (‘87, ‘03, ‘12, and Rise) and the dynamics set up in it are SO fun I love it. Team 2 is my fave because you have literally all my faves on that team how could I not?? I also highly appreciate that everyone gets a chance to shine and that there’s no bashing at all, they’re all just very much in character and it’s refreshing to read ❤️❤️❤️
There’s a LOAD more that I could recommend I’m sure but I don’t remember them off the top of my head at the moment.😭 If I remember I’ll come back and add them in!
(Forgot about AU’s- honestly there’s some that I see and catch up on when I see them but there’s just so many that it’s a bit difficult to keep track of sometimes! I’d have to go around and fully look through many before having a solid answer haha! The ones I do see are always so well done though, I may come back and add them here if I remember 😅)

Ok. Ok. Forgive me but this is happening.I have reality TV brainrot and I'm making it everyone else's problem. Blackbonnet but the Ultimatum Queer Love.
Ed's with Jack, he wants to gets hitched but Jack's a whiny POS who couldn't commit to anything more meaningful than a good fart - but Ed's getting on a bit and he knows he should settle down and he's never really met anyone else so maybe love is just settling for whatever works and Jack's fine, I guess, if you like morons. Then there's Stede, and he and Mary are on there because idk she's pregnant or family pressure or w/e and Stede assumed marriage was the next logical step but she's not feeling it, and besides Stede gets a little panicky and fainty when he thinks about marriage (to a woman, but shh he hasn't got there yet). They do the mingling break up thing, Mary gets paired up with Evelyn or Doug w/e and Jack ends up being the last picked because lol fuck you Jack, and Ed and Stede pick each other because they got on, and Stede likes Ed's kind eyes and Ed likes Stede’s fancy manners (he did the whole pulling his chair out for him on a mini-date, wtf does that?). Both assume the three weeks will be a fun easy time while their respective partners realise how much they loved them, valued them, were ready to get hitched etc, but ho-ho, what's this? Someone's catching feelings? On one hand you can do the whole pining while shacked up and not realising reciprocated feelings until the final moment of decision, but tbh I would just like them to fall head over heads insanely fast and never look back. Like Jack loudly saying there was no way that 'big gal' could keep up with Ed in bed, too much of a wuss to do anything, and smash cut to Stede just absolutely blowing Ed's back out on their couch. Cut back to three weeks with their respective original partners and Stede and Mary are delighted to arrange split custody and move on ASAP, and there's a satisfying payoff of Ed dumping Jack when he tries to neg him during one of the group nights, and Stede gets to have the even more satisfying payoff of punching Jack in the face when he insults Ed in front of him. Then Stede tells Ed he would be honoured to treat him as fine as he deserves for the rest of their lives, and then they get married and fuck a lot and it's fuckin' great. And fuck you Jack 👌.

Okay actually let me give some positives
So while I say this is a perfectly mid episode I do mean that I don't think it's a bad one I just don't think it's great it's like, room temperature water. It's like unbuttered toast
Still enjoyable but you probably want some ice water or butter toast
But let's go with the Goods™:
-very nice to see returning background characters I'm a background character fan I can't help it I get excited when I see these little guys. New or returning (returning was great though oh my goodness seeing the vampire that bit Matt or seeing one of the Atlanteans was 👌👌)
-I think the montage was great, I like montages and I think this one was fine I really enjoyed Tom and Edd's parts in the montage more than Matt's but his was okay
-I think it was really cute that 3rd and 2nd place went to two little kids good for those kids
-this episode had much better pacing than part 1 or Beaster Bunny, there wasn't as many random awkward quiet moments you can really feel that Beyond is finding its footing
-that ending sequence were Matt falls to the ground and we got Tom and Edd picking him up? Fantastic
-the gag with the Beach Hunks Tom water activated was pretty good, it got a chuckle out of me
-I know some people may find the Easter eggs to real life things annoying but I don't that's been an Eddsworld staple for a while, it's fun to pause on :>
-I like the after credit stuff I think it's really neat that they're starting to play around with this being a show, maybe there will be some big payoff in the future who knows
Now for the Meh™
-I think it kind of suffered from the guys being separated this trio of idiots bounce off of each other very well so with them all separated it just felt like something was missing
-kind of wish there was more spoken jokes or at least more spoken gags? A lot of the jokes were visual and while I do like visual jokes I think there should be a balance
-I was not into the trio of bullies at all whenever they were on screen I was just thinking that this should have been the neighbors, if you were just going to do Tom and Edd vs some guys why not have it be Mark & Eduardo?
-oh boy the shipping joke was not good. We get it, shipping bad fandom bad. Screw the audience jokes have been done before and they can be done rather well, both Fan Service episodes kind of tease this and I think they were just better. Fan Service 2 teased the shipping better tbh
-I wasn't into part 2 still having the competition go on actually I thought by part 2 Tom and Edd we're going to see Lobster Matt and have to fight it or something you know an actual adventure this was just kind of "things happen"
-personal opinion but I did not want to see Matt vore some kids, I mean I know he's a monster and monsters eat people that's fine but it was just kind of like :|
Final Conclusion:
This is pretty all right but probably not one I'm going to rewatch often. It's a very mixed bag but it's one that was worked hard on and you can tell. A solid 5/10

i did it! i finished the traitor baru cormorant! the last third or so is fantastic, it really is. the characters bounce off each other incredibly well, there's layers to conversations and interactions and the contrast and parallels of baru and [spoiler sort of antagonist] were excellent. the wlw content is also 👌 lots of longing glances and hands. it's the kind of book where you have to pay attention and have a good memory, and the content warnings are no joke, but the payoff is well worth it. that ending, that ending. can't wait for book two.
the faceless ones continues, some of the horror stuff works less well in audio format but that's not for lack of trying. maybe i was in the wrong mood for it when i listened to that section.
i also bought some more books (help) so i'll post about those when they get here. they're a bit different than what i usually read so i'm looking forward to them!

the thing that really struck me about midnight mass is how the people who genuinely thought that they were gonna be on God's side during the end times and how God wouldn't execute his harsh judgment on them...ended up being the bad guys in the end.
like this has been a personal theory of mine over the last few years. say theoretically that everything these kinds of people have been saying about the end times is true. that there will be a great persecution of innocent people. but the kicker is, they (the ultra religious christians) are not the ones being persecuted, but are in fact the ones doing the persecuting. stripping away the rights and privileges of people that they deem as lesser and unworthy. the very people that jesus singled out and showed compassion and mercy to, the people that jesus called friends, the people he laughed and cried with, the people he performed miracles on, the people on the fringes of society. they would dehumanize them and treat them as second class citizens, saying that they deserve every bit of pain and suffering because they don't follow their own personal brand of religion. but they don't see it like that, because they've brainwashed and gaslit themselves into always thinking that *they're* the victims of injustice and persecution.
at the final episode when beverly was shaming howard for not saving his family, despite it being her that was part of the catalyst that caused his pain and suffering in the first place? perfectly encapsulates the whole dynamic of modern (post roman empire) christianity with the people they try to "save." they'll create a problem when there is none and blame the victims of that situation for not being godly the "right" way.
the last few episodes I admit made me uncomfortable. the religious trauma that affected me (rapture/end times anxiety, like my heart would start racing when I would hear a plane fly overhead bc I thought that it would be russia or north korea dropping a bomb on us and kicking off the end of days) was really prevalent. but man the payoff of seeing beverly crying and trying to dig in the sand to escape the sun and then burning a few seconds later was EXTREMELY satisfying and worth it. and I was this close 👌 to crying when erin was dying and dreaming(?) of her conversation with riley about what happens when you die. (not a bad cry I promise but the "oh my god that is so beautiful and profound" type of cry.) very cathartic.
like I'm not dumb I know there was a lot of addiction themes and undertones throughout the series, but man did midnight mass capture the essence of the conservative christian persecution/martyr complex and the religious trauma/abuse that stems from it.

What are the chances of this happening but once this finale crisis immediate stuff whatever happens, I wish Kendall will personally tell Stewy or, he wants to say start happened but the whole Alexander Skarsgard problem gets in between and makes things worse between them before Stewy find out 👌 Usually the seasons pick up right where they left off so. Anything is fine as long as Hosseini gets more scenes in s4???

I honestly haven't written fic for this series primarily because it is perfect as it is? My fan fic writing brain requires me to love something enough to want to think endlessly enough, but be dissatisfied enough to want to transform it. This book series is perfect as is.
