Found Family

Try as it might, the Paradise Protection Protocol could not compute what it had done incorrectly, endlessly recalculating in its creator’s stead.

A hastily drawn comic for my Trainer Clavell AU, where Clavell takes up MC’s spot, finding Koraidon and Miraidon, and adventure’s around Paldea as Clive (for Nemona + Penny’s route) and Clavell (titan hunting with Arven). To sort of make the Arven route possible, I pretend Clavell was there for him and the two are quite close, though Arven probs still struggles to call him dad.

Anyway! This comic is just exploring how the expedition in Area Zero could go. The kids sneak up on Clavell, who absolutely doesn’t want them entering the lab. Probably leaving Koraidon and Miraidon behind to guard them as he investigates. Anyway, regardless of those details, Clavell gets into quite a bit of trouble. I mostly just wanted to explore Clavell + Arven’s relations with Sada + Turo and each other haha. Sort of lost the plot ish half way and decided to make it scrappy looking, oops.

Enjoy regardless! Clavell probably lives. Probably.

HC Scarlet/Violet timeline

This is based on information from the game (most of it being Raifort’s history course and the notes in the Zero Area Research Stations) as well as a general assessment of what makes most sense based on apparent ages etc. The only thing that doesn’t make sense internally in the game is Raifort’s statement that the Tera Orb was invented ten years before game time, when the notes in the Research Stations clearly state that Sada/Turo invented the orb before Arven was born. If both are right, then Arven is 9 years old or younger, which clearly isn’t right, so I’ve gone with the notes in the Research Stations and assumed the Tera Orb was invented over ten years before game time.

Timeline assumes start of game takes place in late 2022.

1,000,000 BCE - Formation of the Paldean crater

0 CE - Rule of the Paldean Empire

0-1000 CE - The Era of Exploration

1217 - Unification of Paldea, establishment of the Academy

1822 - Area Zero Expedition with Heath

1820s - Heath publishes the Violet Book

1882 - Discovery of terastallised Pokemon in the Great Crater

1962 - Clavell is born (making him 60 in game)

1975 - Sada/Turo is born (making her/him 47 in game)

1986 - Jacq is born (making him 36 in game)

1989 - Clavell (27) leaves Paldea for travel/work

1993 - Sada/Turo (18) enrols at the Academy (which I HC at that time was a higher education institution, it opened up to various ages later).

1995 - Sada/Turo (20) graduates, becomes a tutor/researcher at the Academy (his lab is Clavell’s current office).

2000 - Clavell (38) returns from travel/work overseas, takes up a teaching post at the Academy. Meets Sada/Turo (25).

2002 - Sada/Turo (27) “leads” a research team (incl Clavell, 40) into Area Zero. Leads in quotes because Clavell is supervising behind the scenes. Sada/Turo’s lab at the Academy is held for him in the interim.

2003 - Sada/Turo (28) discovers the crystals cause terastallisation.

2004 - Sada/Turo (29) invents the Tera Orb prototype; receives corporate funding. Disturbed by Sada/Turo’s talk of past/future Pokemon, Clavell (42) stays only to help perfect Tera Orb for mainstream distribution. Sada/Turo’s resulting profile leads the Academy to preserve his old lab.

2005 - Sada/Turo (30) sets up a lab at Cabo Poco Lighthouse; Clavell (43) moves to a different research facility (Paldea? Elsewhere? Unsure). Later that year, Sada/Turo returns to the Crater, moving research to the Zero Lab with a “smaller team”; conducts time machine research.

2007 - First Koraidon/Miraidon brought through time machine. Meanwhile Jacq (21) starts work as a junior researcher, meets Clavell (45).

2008 - Arven is born (making him 14 in game). Sada/Turo is 33. Turo/Sada leaves within the year.

2009 - Sada/Turo (34) creates AI assistant. Between Sada/Turo and the AI, they manage to raise Arven.

2011 - Second Koraidon/Miraidon brought through time machine.

2017 - Jacq (31) develops the Pokedex App for the Rotom Phone.

2019 - Arven (11) enrols at the Academy.

Early 2021 - Operation Star; Harrington resigns along with the rest of the staff. Clavell (59), Jacq (35), and other staff join the Academy. Clavell moves into Sada/Turo’s old lab.

Late 2022 - Second Koraidon/Miraidon kills Sada/Turo (47); First Koraidon/Miraidon flees; AI Sada/Turo asks Clavell (60) to be put in touch with MC.

Early 2023 - Events at the Zero Lab; destruction of the time machine.

Scarlet and Violet, performance wise really lacking to the point where it's obvious there needs to be changes to how staff need to be treated better and given more time to work, are really some of the best games in the mainstream series I've ever played and I just really want to talk forever about how amazing it all is

#my switch is getting repaired for drift but man am i itching for it back #I was in the middle of the champion assessment too #but omg I really love the game and the writing and grgrgrgr #I want to bite sada/turo until they blow up #i want to hold arven nemona and penny for being such well written characters with their struggles and bonds together #i want to shake clavell's hand for being an older man in a very gen x/z environment trying to be hip but also wanting the acadamy to-#actually be safe and welcoming while taking accountability for how bullying was ignored and his own dismissal of team star #i want to cry because the teachers are so nice and understanding and actually educate their students while being open to help #and how miriam is an example of someone who tries so hard to achieve their dream for it to be just out of reach #and how the gym leaders have so much personality and how the e4 are so close-knitted together with a little girl in the middle of it all #how koraidon/miraidon thrive under the love the get from the protag and how they act just like giant dogs with the attention they want #and how they're considered low on the ladder in their species in terms of power and size but still have lots of pride and power #i wanna learn more about the crater grgrg #just really really love this game and i miss my lite neee come back to meeee #and yeah i've played from firered to now in terms of mainstream so yeah def i'm being serious #but for real the staff deserve more respect and time literally everyone can agree the game could've waited if it meant better treatment #I really appreciate the love that went into it despite the crunch but it's still shit about the obvious rush #like we know it's not the switch please lengthen the time for people to work on the games so both parties can actually enjoy things #but yeah #pokemon sv spoilers #rosebud posting 💐

A knock at her office door caught her attention. Opening it, she immediately tensed at the sight of Turo, who shielded himself with his hands.

"WAIT WAIT WAIT! Lemme explain before you hit me!"

She stared at him before opening the door for him to enter. He walked inside, the director closing the door behind him. Turning to face him, she sighed. "You get 1 minute."

"Right... I want to say sorry. F-For everything. For leaving, for never reaching out, for failing you and Arven. I was a coward. I was afraid to fail as a father and husband, yet when I left I did just that. I failed you both by never coming back-"

First, he felt the sudden and painful punch to the side of his face. Then, before he could recover, he felt her hug him.

"You're an idiot, mi amor, but you're MY idiot." She mumbles, before looking at him. "I said things I shouldn't have said. I pushed you away. We are both to blame, and yet we never even filed for divorce. We... aren't good- not yet- but... this is a start. And... I'm sorry for what I said back then."

Her mind flashed back to the night everything went so, so wrong.

Sada stood at her desk, covered in notes and blueprints for a time machine. A baby was asleep nearby in a bassinet as her husband tried to convince her to stop.

"Mi Amor, please. This obsession of yours needs to stop! Arven needs you- I need you!"

"Obsession?! This is for our Paradise!"

"Sada, please, I can't fail you by letting you fall further into obsession! I'm already failing Arven due to how nervous I am to mess up-"

"Shut up Turo! You're a failure if you can't see I'm doing this for us!"

Turo steps back at her words, appearing hurt and close to tears. "Lucina.... I...."

Andres Turo, brilliant researcher and her best friend, turned and bolted as Sada yelled insults after him. "COWARD!"

Arven was awake now, crying. Turning and picking up the newborn, Sada feels her rage towards the man dampen as pride rose in her chest. Her precious son... her treasure...

"Shh... Its okay, its okay..." She soothes as she rocks her baby. Arven whimpered and snuggled closer to her. "We don't need him... we have me, and you, and Uncle Clavell, and Kor. We... we don't need him... I don't need him..."

"Lucina... I forgave you a long time ago. Right now... I think we have a long way to go. But... this is a good start, I hope." Turo quietly said, returning the embrace.

had an idea for an AU I'll probably not draw for a long time, but the idea is...

what if the zero crew + team star were Phantom Thieves (basically a Persona 5 AU set in Paldea with our fellow Paldean pals)

this round of Phantom Thieves consists of (and their niches in battle): Sophie (OC) - wildcard but starting Persona has psychokinesis skills Alena (OC) - curse + insta kill mudo skills, best source for critical hits for enemies without weakness (also temporary navigator until Penny joins) Nemona - electric skills, strong physical attacks, learns auto counter skills Arven - ice skills, healer, defense buffs and skills to deflect attacks Penny - navigator and battle support (duh) Giacomo - wind skills, enemy debuffs, single target healing spells Mela - fire skills (duh), strong physical attacker, buff attack skills for allies Atticus - nuclear skills, best gun damage, skills to inflict status aliments on foes and heal status aliments on allies Ortega - bless + insta kill hama skills, best healer (like samarecarm and salvation) Eri - almighty skills, foe debuffs, party buffs (notably heat riser) (I haven't fully figured out their Personas, codenames, confidant arcanas or choice of guns and weapons yet though)

some additional notes: - party joins in this order: Sophie (protagonist), Alena, Arven, Giacomo, Nemona, Atticus and Penny (they join at the same time), Mela, Ortega, Eri - Alena is a Floragato like creature in the Metaverse but a Sprigatito in the real world (but she thoroughly denies she's a Pokemon, though in her defence, she cannot evolve in the traditional sense or learn Pokemon attacks), and much like Morgana, you can only understand her if you heard her speaking in the Metaverse - Team Star never formed in this AU but their outfits appear as Phantom Thief outfits (paired with masks); so Giacomo knows Mela, Atticus knows Penny, and Ortega knows Eri but that's it - Harrington is the principal instead of the former director, and Clavell is the vice principal instead of the director (but becomes principal eventually) - Sada and Turo haven't split up, but they still prioritize work over Arven, so he's living under Clavell's care - not sure about other confidants but none of them (except Nemona) can be romanced (cause even here, I'm gonna spread my OC X Canon SophiNemo propaganda and you cannot stop me) - only two prevalent ships are SophiNemo and Attipen - the original Phantom Thieves (Joker and co, minus Morgana) probably might cameo as students but they're not Phantom Thieves in this AU - species aren't restricted to anthro dogs in this AU

Oh look, an enigmatic authority figure appeared. And he's the director of one of two competing factions. I wonder what his role in story will be.

Seriously though, Clavell has more red flags pointing to him being the villain than normal, which makes me think he might actually be a red herring? (Or a violet herring.) Maybe Scarlet and Violet will reverse the relationship between Sycamore and Lysandre in X/Y, and Clavell will be trying to stop a villainous Sada or Turo.

Or maybe...there might not be a villain in these games. Maybe there will be more individual stories to fit the open world format. The last two games have gotten close to this idea. The Isle and Armor and Crown Tundra were all challenge based and lacked villains. Legends: Arceus had a more complex conflict based on cultural differences. While the villain was fun, Legends didn't really need them.

Or maybe it's simpler than that and he's the villain.

Clavell's name likely comes from the Spanish (and Latin) word "Clave", which can both mean "key" and "keystone". Clavell is both the keystone of the academy and the keystone of your independent studies.

The Tera Orb itself is also a literal "keystone", being this generation's counterpart to the Key Stone that enabled Mega Evolution in Gen VI.

The "Key" part to Clavell's name is a little bit more mysterious. Is Clavell himself the key to something? Then there's the possible English interpretation - "clave" can be the past tense version of "cleave". As in, to break apart. Is it possible that the Naranja and Ova Academy used to be a single institution?

Samantha and Arven are looking at her curiously. "Yeah, also who is this Turo guy?" Arven asks.

"Turo... is your father. We met when I began attending the Academy when I was around 13. He was the student council president, a stern and serious boy who didn't exactly enjoy my hyperactive, blunt personality. We often butt heads, but on my first Treasure Hunt, we both ended up taking the Gym Challenge together. We were already rivals, and now we could prove who was the better trainer. After that, we became friendly rivals. When we were around 16, we both ended up in the same professor branch alongside Augustine and Aurea Juniper. The four of us became fast friends, and I started noticing Turo act more and more... flustered, I think?"

"It wasn't long after before he asked me on a date during the Treasure Hunt. He was so sweet and nervous, and showed me just how beautiful Paldea was, bringing me to hidden sights and to the edge of the Crater on our last date... the date he proposed to me. We still went on dates after, but that one... we were both hoping for our research proposal to be accepted, and that day, he revealed it had been approved, but wanted to make a promise to me. That he wanted to share the rest of his life, both inside the Crater and out, with me."

A bitter smile crept across her face. "I hope, someday, we can be reunited and I can make that vow a reality."

Anyway, AU where the profs actually stick around and eventually become teachers at the Academy I guess. My dumb wild brain idea was that Clavell had the bright idea of "Since the time machine project is dashed y’know what we should do? We shgould all go work at the Academy.” Jacq was pulled along on similar train of thought (I think he only joined the tera orb project a little later as a trainee, but wasn’t close enough to the profs to hear about their time machine thingy unlike Clavell).

Clavell and Turo are very much on the same page of being old men who are shit at modern day culture. Sada on the other hand... she revels in their dumbness. Poor Arven lol. I’m thinking they might be teaching assistants/only teaching part time. Maybe working on experiments that eventually lead to Koraidon and Miraidon being lab created rather than time machine pulled.

They basically take up the currently empty other half of Clavell’s office, the labs! And yes I ship all three of them together lmao. Imagine the chaos lkjsdfg. Also the shenanigans to be had there after school hours, if you get my meaning lol. I’m sorry lsdfkjsd. My nsfw twitter account will hold more poly junk in the future I guess (No minors please.)

Also FYI I’m running with my idea that the AI professors we see are actually just their youthful appearances frozen in time. In present day, the actual profs would be aging, sort of looking like this.
