OG au concept
“Feral Owlets” AU
8yo Luz Noceda, who still hasn’t moved to Gravesfield, falls in a body of water and ends up on King’s island, where she spends the next 4 years before being found by Eda.
“Eda barely managed to wrestle these on” & “Stuck in another world & it’s not what she thought it would be” in case you can’t read my writing

Note
Something I thought of for the Owlet au is that Hunter is about to head out with Edric, when Eda comments to Edric to "Make sure the night owl gets a well-rested nap if he ends up falling asleep"
Eda would do that.
Though to be fair, Eda wouldn't really need to tell Edric that since he knows how much Hunter needs his sleep(I still headcanon that Hunter has Autism and, thanks to that, has trouble sleeping no matter what au he’s in) and there's no way Edric would be willing to wake Hunter up if he ends up falling asleep around him.
But I like to think that Eda calls Hunter "night owl" as a joke for all the times she's caught Hunter staying up late at night.

Trouble at the market
Breaking out of Hooty's owl pellet was bad enough. She had to pick leaves out of her hair. Not to mention, bits and bones of whatever the tube demon last ate. Now came the crowds of fans of "Luz, the human ''.
Witches of the (unofficial) "bad girls coven" raced upon seeing one of their idols. Witches, young and old, swarmed around her. While others were snatching Penstagram selfies, uneasy fans wanted to know what caused the Isles to tremble just a short while ago. This might be a taste of fame. But it was still the pressure of everyone counting on a high schooler. Not exactly something Luz counted on when she helped save her friends. The witch apprentice turned hero, Luzura. Her identity as "the dummy in the principal's office" was crushing. But this was a new kind of pressure.
She tried to calm down the flock of worried admirers. But they kept asking about the "rainbow geyser" that rained down on the titan. From its head to its toes, liquid metal-like substances crashed down onto the ground.
Unable to answer all their questions, Luz nervously agreed to let everyone know when she learns more. One thing she learned to always keep on her, a bottle of fog brew. After her first day of Hexside, she wanted to ace her first potion. Now, the results spoke for themselves. Using the smokescreen and an invisibility glyph, she snuck away.
Young witch: "So cool. Like that other human hero. What was it? Man-bat?"
Luz(under her breath): "It's actually Bat..."
The slight exhale caused her glyph to wear off. Before she could use another one, she spotted a Glandus student sprinting in her direction.
Luz: "No,no,no, wait, I don't..."
They sped past her, completely ignoring the confused human. And then another, and another, and another. Panic could be heard getting closer, as the sounds of battle grew bigger as well. The ground shook as she saw witches retreating. The former emperor's coven guards fell under the banner of the "C.A.T.S". Those accepted were under the leadership of the original rebels against Belos. Raine Whispers, Daruis, Eberwolf, Lilith and Eda Clawthrone. Only those personally approved by one of them were made into peacekeepers.
C.A.T. guards fired spell after spell as they fell back. Dust and debris approached ominously toward Noceda's direction. She wasted no time running towards them, in hopes of being able to help.
From the dust cloud, two C.A.T. guards were launched through the air. Noceda used a glyph to catch them in greenery and created an ice wall with another. She readied herself and thundering footsteps approached. The sound of metal bending greeted her before the sight of a 30 foot blue humanoid newt emerged. In one arm, he held what looked like a sci-fi energy sword. A large abomination attempted to focus its attacks on his head. The witches responsible for the goo champion became over confident. One of them spotted Luz and became careless.
C.A.T. guard: "It's the human!"
At that moment, the large newt swung its tail. A chunk of rubble was sent crashing into the origin of that call. Their partner ran to their aid. With eyes irritated from the blows, he could just make out a familiar sight. A fuzzy silhouette of hair with leaves and sticks. The huge armored creature closed in on his human target.
King Andrias: "A human, huh?"
Luz: "Um, hi. You're a big boy, aren't ya?"
King Andrias: "What have you done with the box?"
Luz: "The box? I don't know what you're talking about. What box?"
King Andrias: "The power of Amphibia's greatest treasure. My battle on Earth just moments ago. Now, I'm here amongst these creatures. Of course, you sent me here. Always a little thief misusing its power."
Luz: "Listen, um, sir? I don't know anything about a box, but if you just..."
Wait, he knows about earth. He said, he was just there? What's going on in the human world? Did what happen back at the pool site reach there, too?
King Andrias: "You want to play games? Catch!"
Using his sword to bring down a wall, he swung his tail like a bat. Debris went flying towards Noceda's direction. She quickly slammed an ice glyph on the ground. But the frozen wall it created only held against the stone projectiles. Her attacker charged at her almost immediately. Swinging his sword through, he completely closed the distance between them. Despite towering over her, she could see the reds of his eyes. Even with his vision impaired, he was still a threat.
King Andrias: "You've got ice powers now?"
He caught her in his massive hand in an attempt to crush her. But she activated a fire glyph she planted on him, just under his fist. Right when he loosened his grip, she escaped and used a plant glyph to swing from his arm, up to his face. He spotted her aim and headbutted her before she could use another attack. She came down on the ground, hard.
He quickly tried to stomp on her. But she rolled out of the way.
King Andrais: "You think sending me away was going to save Earth?"
He swung his sword without giving her any reprieve. One of the blows cracked the street, causing Luz to lose her footing.
King Andrais: "I'm going to enjoy crushing everyone you care about when I'm done here."
At that moment, several spikes of ice went right for her opponent,
Luz(angrily): "What did you just say?!"
She coated a rod, lying on the ground, in ice. It almost looked like a shimmering sword.
King Andrias: "Touche."
She used a combo of fire and ice to create a fog. Using the cracks in the street, she used a plant glyph to attack from below. He evaded, but took his already poor eyesight off her. She used the distraction to slip away, using an invisibility glyph. Sneaking up on him, she surprised him with a large flash of light. With what felt like looking directly at the sun, he covered his eyes. His reaction from the pain made the opening Luz wanted. Using an ice platform, she launched herself up to his collar. With her makeshift weapon, she lodged it into his armor. Using vines, she knocked the sword out of his hand. She had to use one arm to hold on. But she appeared to immobilize one of his arms with a plant glyph. They managed to drag his arm closer to the ground. Unfortunately, she forgot about his tail. He knocked her off his back and snatched her out of the air with his spare arm.
King Andrias: "So many new powers. You’ve outdone yourself, chosen hero. I underestimated you. But now you die.”
Just as he raised his fist to smash her into the ground, sunlight allowed him to get a better look at his captive.
Bringing her closer to his face, he studied her features.
King Andrias: “You’re not Anne Boonchuy.”
Not wasting this opportunity, she remotely activated one of her last two glyphs. Using a vine to reach the rod under his collar, she set off a series of ice glyphs coated around vegetation that shackled his arm.
King Andrais: “What’s happening?”
He flung her in the direction of the floor. Fortunately, her last glyph allowing her to stop in mid air and land safely on the street.
The barrage of glyphs managed to reach underneath his armor. Finally, immobilizing him completely and ending the battle.

Remember my owlet au? And how it got popular?
I'm still shocked about that

I'm going with 10 All Time Classics from the Captain America (MCU) fandom. I mean, they're all classics to me, at least. In no particular order:
1. This, You Protect by owlet
First installment in the Infinite Coffee and Protection Detail series, which are all amazing. It's a “Bucky escaping Hydra and rebuilding his sense of self” fic, which he does while spying on Steve. With eventual Avengers Family and a lovely cast of OCs bonding with Bucky in the meantime. It has a very distinctive perspective and writing style; Bucky's in constant internal (and sometimes accidentally external) dialogue with himself, making it hilarious and tragic all at the same time. I love it. I've recently been getting into The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells and this Bucky has a similar sassy-but-vulnerable vibe? Read this if you like that, anyway.
2. The One Who Knows by Dira Sudis (dsudis)
This is a Political Animals AU, in that no-powers Steve is inserted into the Political Animals world and Bucky is TJ. Discusses being outed and depression but is ultimately hopeful. The author is one of my all time faves and has written lots of great stories for this and many other fandoms.
3. Blue Scales by chaya
Steve is a merman AU. He's still Captain America, though. It's crack with heart, I love it.
Best line: "May your scales and your love story be our weird secret forever.”
4. Our Lingering Frost by eyres
AU where Bucky is rescued from Hydra in the 50s (?) and so is around for Steve to be found.
5. Assets Out of Containment by follow_the_sun
It's a classic to *me*, OK? Bucky goes undercover at Jurassic World just as that movie's plot kicks off. They're Hydra dinosaurs! It's just great. Also has a podfic and crossovers with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
6. Not Easily Conquered (series) by dropdeaddream and WhatAreFears
Some of the greatest fanfiction I've ever read, the whole series is epic. Anyway, it's a "Steve doesn't go into the ice" AU with added queer angst when (never sent) love letters from Bucky resurface. I particularly like the second installment in the series The Thirteen Letters, which are just Bucky's letters and are insanely well-written.
7. to memory now I can't recall by Etharei
Time travel AU! Featuring post-CATWS Bucky accidentally switching places with CATFA era Bucky.
8. If Wishing Made It So by Leveragehunters (Monkeygreen)
Genie!Bucky AU! This author is great at writing AUs with fantasy/genre elements, it was hard to choose. They've also written an excellent werewolf!Steve AU and a horse!Steve AU that I really love.
9. Into That Good Night by Nonymos
An Interstellar AU! Very angsty and tragic but with an eventual happy ending.
10. Goodbye Piccadilly, Farewell Leicester Square by Speranza
Speranza must be one of the best writers in the fandom, so it was hard to pick just one of their fics. Other strong contenders were All the Angels and the Saints and The Fifties, so check those out too! But this one has a special place in my heart. Steve, Tony and Natasha accidentally time travel to WW2 London, leading to an accidental run-in with CATFA-era Bucky. The author does tragic and romantic time travel tropes so well, but with a happy ending.
I now realise that most of these are AUs, so here’s a bonus rec for a non-AU in-universe story that’s severely underrated and deserves more love:
+1
Heart, Have No Pity on this House of Bone by Sena
This story follows Bucky in-action in the Pacific Theatre. It’s very well written and, from what I can tell, well researched. Steve only appears in Bucky’s imagination and the story focuses on the horrors of war rather than romance, but it’s gripping! And it explores unrequited love, being closeted and period-typical homophobia, which I also enjoyed. I’m still holding out hope for a sequel.

Wrong Target
Requested by: ❤️ @oyasumimosura ❤️ May I please request some Stolas x wife! Reader? An Au where Stolas got into a healthy relationship with someone who loves him for who he is. Perhaps the reader rescued Stolas when they were little since she’s more athletic and catches him before he could hit the ground, they both didn’t know that they will soon be married. While (y/n)’s sister which is Stella doesn’t like Stolas that much and even abuses him whenever she’s away. That one time when they were adults when she caught Stella about to slap Stolas she was very angry with Stella that she banned her from coming into her home. In the end, Stella did hire Striker who ended up killing (y/n) while she was protecting Octavia. Like I need some angst where Stolas came home and looked so happy but to find the house was messy. He finds Octavia crying and beside her was (y/n)’s lifeless body.
One-Shots and Headcanons Masterlist
Tumblr media
“Oh dear, you should have seen him. Stolas of the Ars Goetia, the Great Prince of Hell, stuck in a tree not knowing how to get down. He was gripping it as if it was his life line. I thought at the time that he was the biggest drama queen I have ever seen, and look at him now, I was so right!”
Octavia heartily laughed with me as I draped the covers over her and with a quick kiss on the forehead, I bid her sweet dreams. I joined Stolas at the balcony with a blanket and tea to relax.
“So my dear, what were you telling our little owlet that made your laughter carry all the way here?”
We snuggled under the blanket, enjoying the peacefulness of each other's company. Being a parent was harder than you could have imagined, but the best thing that ever happened in your life. Your side of the family was not ideal, with an overly dramatic and cold older brother and an aggressive and jealous twin sister.
“I was just telling our little princess how we first met, love.”
I caressed my husband's cheek, closely inspecting it and finding a red handprint on it.
“Dear Lucifer, whatever happened to you?”
“Nothing my Calytrix, you needn't worry about me.”
His eyes avoided mine and from the tone of his voice, I could tell he was not sincere with me. Yet pushing him would make him even more uncomfortable, which you didn’t want. With worry still evident in your eyes, you rested your head on his shoulder, slowly falling into dream land.
“Enough!”
You shouted, catching Stella’s hand as it was about to connect with the already reddened cheek of your husband. You always knew your sister was a confrontational person, but to resort to violence, much less trying to hurt her own brother-in-law was outrageous. You certainly didn’t expect to see the two fighting when you returned from your play-date with Octavia and Charlie.
“I will not tolerate violence in this household! Leave, and never come back!”
I sent Stella a deadly glare as she smashed the door behind her strongly enough it almost came out of its hinges. Oh, how blind you were. Suddenly all those marks and occasional bruises Stolas sported made so much sense.
“Come love, I need to tend to your wounds.”
Gently grabbing his hand, I led Stolas to our bedroom. As I wept, begging for forgiveness for being so naïve and blind to the situation, we spent the rest of the day in each other's embrace.
“I don’t care who you have to go thru, make it happen!”
Stella shouted at the phone. Her sister dared to go against her, which was a grave mistake. She would not have her killed, no. She would have her suffer seeing the deaths of all those she held close, starting with her husband and her own child. A fate worse than death.
“Understood.”
“Starfire, Starflower, wherever are you hiding?”
Stolas exclaimed, walking into his home. In order to have a relaxing afternoon with his family after what happened, he personaly went and booked the Loo Loo Land for a whole day only for his two darlings. They could enjoy the rides without having to wait in lines, win prizes, watch a private clown show and eat as many sweets as they would like.
“Love?”
He continued walking towards Octavia’s room, hearing slight noises emerging from within. As he carefully opened the door, his heart stopped. His little princess was crying hunched over a body. Your body.
“(Y/N)!”
Your cold corpse sprawled on the floor, a massive wound right through the heart, blood everywhere. This is wrong. This can’t be. This is not REAL! Stolas fell on his knees next to his daughter, screaming with all his power.
“(Y/N)…"
He took Octavia into his arms, taking her out of the room.
“I failed to kill the right target. It won’t happen again.”
A pale imp reported to his employer without a care in the world.
“It better not...”

Fic Prompts: Free Day Thursday
Splinter Cell au today! Last Splinter Cell was father-son bonding time, so today Jak gets to spend time with his mom
Phobos was a light sleeper even in the best of times. Here in this rebel base, during the second week of her and Damas rotating between Haven and Spargus with their children, even the slightest noise was enough to wake her. She sat up in her cot and let her eyes adjust to the half-light of the Babak settlement's barracks. What had roused her?
She let her eyes roam the long wooden hut, taking stock of each of her fellow Spargans and the members of Brutter's tribe. Leave it to a son of Damas to reforge the alliance between the Babak and the House of Mar by accident. Damas had been insufferable for an entire day when he found out. But Phobos found she couldn't be too irritated at him; the way Jak and his fluffy friend brightened when they heard him bragging about them was enough to make that stupid little smirk bearable. They walked a little taller any time she or Damas complimented them, Phobos had noticed. It was nice to see Jak opening up.
Thoughts of her newfound son drew her gaze to his cot, two beds over. With how restless he'd proven to be, Phobos half expected the cot to be empty. But it wasn't.
Jak sat hunched in the center of the cot with his knees pulled to his chest. Even in the gloom, it was apparent that something wasn't right. The fingers that gripped his knees were tipped with curved, black, talons. His skin had faded from bronze to an almost reflective pearl.
Oh.
Phobos had heard the reports of Jak's "Hunter" shape before, but she had never witnessed it in person. She took in the curved horns rising from his curls, and it struck her that the boy resembled nothing so much as the dragonowls that nested in the cacti in Strider Range. All he was missing were the feathers at this point. Even the flickers of violet sparks dancing across Jak's horns didn't diminish the fact that, in the context of desert life,  the Hunter form was a little endearing.
Rising from her cot, Phobos shook out her tunic and made a show of stretching. From what she'd heard, startling Jak when he was in a battle-shift didn't end well. Stark black eyes zeroed in on her in an instant, tracking her movement. Phobos smiled at him and approached his bed slowly.
"Hey, little owl" she whispered, "What's got you up so late?"
His ears flicked up, then back -- a warning that he did not want to be touched, Phobos guessed. She settled on the very end of the cot and kept her hands where he could see them. Had he had a nightmare? From the things Tess mentioned now and then, Phobos knew the boy had more reasons for nightmares than most people twice his age. They may have been just acquaintances so far, but it rankled to know a young boy had suffered so horribly with no one to stand up for him.
"Are you alright, owlet?" Phobos frowned gently and tilted her head. "Has something disturbed you?"
Surprise softened Jak’s face. He cocked his head and mirrored Phobos's frown.
"You're not afraid?" asked clawed hands.
Phobos clicked her tongue, almost scoldingly.
"Why should I be? I am as dangerous as you are, owlet. And neither of us are as dangerous as the sea."
Jak furrowed his brow and drew his knees in closer.
"...doesn't feel good," he finally admitted. "Too much dark eco, can't let it out right now."
"Ah." Phobos sighed and shifted a little closer. "You're oversaturated? Yeah? I saw that happen to your father once when an ammunition crate broke."
It was getting easier to call Damas this boy's father. Easier to think of Jak as her own.
"It was a different kind of eco, sure, but it looked like it sucked either way."
If he had been Mar -- a strange statement, considering he had been Mar in another world, another life -- Phobos would have rubbed his back and hummed him to sleep again. But Mar was a toddler, still dependent on his adults for comfort. And Jak was just a few years shy of being old enough for the Arena trials! Most teenagers his age found such coddling embarrassing; Phobos could admit that she had been one such teenager once upon a time, cringing at her own mother's public affection.
But would Jak be the same?
He was so much older than their Mar, and yet sometimes she could see her little boy peering out from behind those bright eyes. He was starved for affection, but conditioned to distrust most touch. Unbearably lonely, but afraid of rejection.
Phobos bit her lip, then held out her hand. "Come on, Jak. Let's go outside. We'll get that eco spent so you can go back to sleep, alright?"
Jak winced and looked up. Fangs dug into his lip as he frowned.
"Can't. Might need it for battle."
"There will be more eco in battle," Phobos said. She stood and kept her hand extended.
"Come on, baby. I got you. I'll watch your back, okay?"
It took another five seconds of gentle cajoling before Jak uncurled himself and slid off the cot. He didn't take her hand -- he usually didn't -- but when Phobos looked back, he had the end of her sash in one hand, twisting it around his claws like he was afraid he'd get lost if he let go. He let himself be shepherded along the catwalks connecting the Babak village to the mine shafts. The humming of the elevator seemed to vibrate in his bones, through his horns, unbearably loud.
It was better to wake up in the stifling heat of the caverns, better to be surrounded by snoring, than to find himself in the harsh cold of the Baron’s laboratories. Better to be soaked with sweat on a creaky cot than to shiver while listening to the screams of other test subjects. But even here, even from the grave, Errol still held sway over his nightmares. That was what had gathered the eco into battle-readiness in his body, looking for threats that did not exist. Jak was a haunted man.
The cool night air washed over them both, and Jak shivered. It ended in a sneeze, and the woman beside him smiled softly.
She nodded to the cliffs above the cave network.
"Sig said he saw you scale a building in this shape, fast as a lizard. I bet you're even faster with real handholds."
She stepped back and squinted as if searching for something.
"I'll bet," she said slowly, "I'll bet you there's a couple hotfoot lizards up there, actually. You can eat those, you know. They don't taste that great, but they help your body regulate heat better for a while."
She shrugged.
"Why don't you see if you can catch a few, and I'll show you how to cook them in the morning."
Jak's sharklike eyes studied the cliffs, absorbing even the smallest pinprick of light. He grinned slowly.
"Eat them raw?"
Phobos made a face. "Blegh! You can, but you might regret it later."
"I might not."
"Oy!" Phobos shook her head and laughed quietly. "You sound like Damas when he was young!"
She wasn't sure if the subsequent darker hue of the boy's skin was a blush, or if the observation had made him lose a little dark eco.
Jak bent his knees slightly, and then with a rush of air he leaped; suddenly airborne, six feet directly up. One hand caught the face of the cliff, and soon he was scaling up the rocks at a dizzying rate. Despite herself, Phobos felt her jaw drop. She had never seen anyone but a Lurker make a jump like that unaided! Would Mar be able to do that one day? Or was this an ability only Jak had, learned from the Dark Oracle that favored him?
"Look at you!" She laughed in astonishment and clapped a hand to her forehead. "I oughta put you on the rigging in my fishing boat!"
Jak reappeared after a noisy minute or two with dark spots on one cheek that looked suspiciously like blood.
"Found the lizards," he signed down to her.
Phobos raised an eyebrow. "Did you eat them?"
"No....yes. One." Then he reached back and almost sheepishly raised the battered carcass of a Glub.
"Ohhhh." Phobos squinted up through the darkness. "You want any help up there? Or do you just want to hunt until the eco runs out?"
She knew the answer before Jak had even set the Glub down to sign again.
The moment she'd said "hunt", his eyes had narrowed and his ears flicked up.
Dark eco wasn't just the element of the ocean. It was the element of the hunter, the carnivore, and the tempest. The chase was in its very nature, and right now that nature was rushing through Jak's veins at breakneck speed.
Jak bared his fangs in what was either a show of aggression to Glubs, or a very unsettling smile. Then he dropped out of sight, and Phobos guessed that he was probably shimmying along the ground to look for lizards.
He would probably be up there for a little while. Phobos strolled along the small strip of beach, looking for palm fronds to weave into a basket. She somewhat doubted that Jak would remember to actually bring her any lizards, but she liked working with her hands nonetheless. Without really thinking about it, she hummed quietly, keeping a rhythm with her hands. It was a lively tune, a folk song so old that no one in Spargus really remembered where it had come from. In the language of the people who had once lived in the ruined coastal settlements, the lyrics were something to do with a wily cacomiztli asking a cockatoo to a Fiesta with her. She praised the bird's plumage and grace, and he, flattered, agreed to go. Naturally, the song ended with the cacomiztli having a very nice party meal.
A bit morbid, perhaps, but it had a fine, rollicking melody, and easy to remember rhymes -- even for those who couldn't speak the Coastwatcher dialect. And it reminded children not to trust a flatterer.
A shuffling of feet on the sand paused Phobos's humming, and she glanced up. Jak crouched less than two feet from her, watching with a bemused expression. How was he so quiet?!
His horns had receded considerably, now no more than little nubs poking out of his curls. He'd gotten some color back, too.
"Oye, owlet, did you bring me any lizards?" Phobos asked.
Sheepishly, he held up two lizard tails. Evidently, he had forgotten that the creatures could detach their tails and flee. By the mess on his hands, Phobos guessed he'd spent more time hunting Glubs. She laughed and patted the sand next to her.
"Better luck next time, eh? Here- go get yourself a frond. We're making baskets until you're ready to go back to sleep."
The dark eco continued to fade as Jak struggled to weave with claws. What little hadn't been expended on the small carnivores up the cliff was rapidly being reabsorbed into his bloodstream. When the dark form dropped entirely, Phobos almost didn't notice at first. Jak was as quiet as before, sitting still and watching her weave. She continued to hum until a raspy voice interrupted her.
"Did...Dax...teach you...that?"
Phobos glanced up and noticed Jak wince and massage his throat. She clicked her tongue sympathetically.
"Regretting eating that lizard raw, huh? Too bad we didn't bring our canteens so you could wash that taste out."
"It...was bad." Jak made a face.
With a chuckle, Phobos scooted closer. "Alright owlet, let me see what you've got."
She looked at the sad, lopsided basket, and took hold of Jak's hands to guide him.
"Here: over, under. Over, under. Do that all the way around until you have an alternating pattern on each stem."
Jak furrowed his brows and did his best to follow her movements.
"You didn't answer my question," he croaked.
Ugh. That taste was going to sit in his throat for hours.
"Which one, baby?" Phobos asked, reaching over to flick a coil of hair out of his face.
Baby.
Nobody had ever called him baby before. Well, not sincerely, anyway. Jinx and his guys did sometimes, but they called everyone nicknames like that, because they were weird.
They didn't have the same warmth in their voices, and they definitely didn't apply affectionate nicknames to his dark form!
"The song. Daxter's favorite when we were little. Did he teach you?"
Phobos leaned back. "It's been around that long? Huh! Didn't think the Coastwatcher people went as far as Dead Town."
Jak shrugged. "Daxter's not from Sandover either. He showed up in a boat a year before I did. Said a hurricane washed his village away and he was trapped in the boat."
Jak paused as something occurred to him.
"Wait. How far is your island from Misty Island?"
"Misty Island?"
"Where everyone says the Nest is," Jak clarified.
With how much dark eco had been there when he was a kid, he wasn't surprised that the metalheads had chosen Misty Island to nest.
"About two days on a propeller boat," Phobos said, rubbing her chin, "Closer to two hours by air."
The math lined up surprisingly well, and Jak began to wonder if perhaps his best friend had his origins on the same island he had allegedly been born on. One more thing tying them together; Daxter would be so excited!
"You telling me your buddy in the Titan Suit is a Coastwatcher?" Phobos asked with interest.
"Um...maybe? Have to ask."
Phobos whistled low. "When we go home, we'll have to keep the monks from snatching him. They're obsessed with history and archeological discovery. You tell them a Coastwatcher ancestor is still living and they'll lose their minds."
Jak laughed, almost silently. "He'd probably like that, though. It's rough being the last survivor."
Phobos wrapped an arm around his shoulders and, distracted as he was, Jak simply leaned into her. Phobos stilled, unwilling to jeopardize this moment. She smiled and set her basket aside to brush a hand over her son's hair.
"Well. Neither of you are alone now," she murmured. "And I can promise you, we're not going anywhere."
Was it her imagination, or did Jak lean into her side a little further?
They sat quietly for a moment, watching the waves roll in and out. Then, barely audible over the hiss of the surf, Jak whispered,
"Good."

what are the fics you’d consider required reading (as you said in the tags of another post) ? any fandom i’d say for required reading or if there’s too much, for warrior nun ?
*heavy sigh* I had this post 90% complete when the power went out at my house and I had to rewrite the whole thing.
I'm gonna give you a scattershot approach, one fic for a few different fandoms, different types of fic, and hopefully something resonates.
🦗 (Recommend any fic, wild card!)
Avengers/MCU - The Infinite Coffee and Protection Detail series by owlet (tumblr?)
Set immediately at the end of CA:TWS, Bucky's scrambled brain does a hard reset and decides his new mission is to protect Steve, covertly. Meanwhile, he kinda gets adopted by the senior citizens that live in the shitty apartment building he's crashing in while he learns how to be person again. It's snarky AF, touching, funny, great action, fluffy domestic Avengers Tower stuff. There's some Stucky eventually, but it's not the primary focus and doesn't really show up until like the 5th story in the series. There are 7 stories, and a Q&A with the author.
OUaT - The Secret's in the Telling by @the-pyrophoric-one
Emma is being pranked by a thief while living in the mansion with Regina and Henry, and there's also magic fuckery afoot. This story is just neat. It's tightly-plotted and funny. I can't actually say too much because the whole point is that there's a mystery to solve and I'd hate to spoil it. Even when I had kinda figured out what was going on, I still had no idea how it would end. It's told from two different POVs, so it's fun to reread the first part once you know the ending. Apparently there's also a sequel, but I don't believe I've read it yet.
R&I - Calamity Jane Meets Dr. Isles, Medicine Woman by @jobethdalloway
Rizzles 1800s western AU. Maura is a fancy lady from Boston who moves west to live with her fiancé Garrett Fairfield, Jane wears pants, drinks whiskey, and roams the countryside as Jake Wyatt, an outlaw who's hunting for Charles Hoyt, the man who killed her parents. The immersion in this AU is stunning, the characters feel true to the originals while allowing for how things would change given the time and circumstances, and the buildup from their unconventional meeting to friends to more is a lovely and authentic slow burn. There's also a completed sequel, but it's still on my to-read list.
The 100 - Lightning Only Strikes Once by fiona_249 (tumblr?)
Lexa gets shot and dies, Clarke climbs to the roof of the building, gets hit by weird lightning, then suddenly she's back on The Ark, about to be sent down to Earth with 99 other teen prisoners, and no one remembers the events of the past year besides her. The ultimate fix-it fic. How do you fix your mistakes while still trying to keep the good things that happened? Balancing future knowledge with ripple effects, how much can you change before you don't know what's going to happen anymore? What do you do with a second chance? I think I've read this fic at least half a dozen times.
Warrior Nun - What If I Told You I'm a Mastermind? by @sapphicstacks
Avatrice actress AU. Ava is an unknown actress working as a bartender, Bea is a famous but reclusive actress making a comeback after several years away from the spotlight, and they get cast together in a sapphic love story. You ever read a story and go "JFC, will you two just talk to each other?" Yeah, the reason is because all of the healthy communication got requisitioned for this fic. It's incredibly wholesome and overwhelmingly romantic and also ridiculously hot. Like, prep a cold shower or make sure you're somewhere private when you read it. There's a regularly-updated WiP sequel.

10 things for 2023
hey hey, thanks for the tag @jennamacaroni
a fic idea you want to write or read: oh GOD... can I make a bulleted list? I’m going to make a bulleted list
okay so I really want to write a fic about what the hell Amicia de Rune did with herself in the year immediately after the ending of A Plague Tale: Requiem
but I also need to finish my other WIPs too, including a certain ridiculous coffeeshop AU...
I would love for someone to write a kick-ass deimos!Kassandra fic
a place you want to go: back to the north of France
a book you want to read: Victory City, by Salman Rushdie
something fun you want to do: ride my souped-up Honda Monkey on trails along the spine of Oregon, camping the entire way
something you want to make: love, not war? art, not criticism? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
a habit you want to start: cleaning one thing around my house every day
something new you want to try: listening more than I talk, a goal I’ve had for 42 years now... this’ll be the year, I’m sure!
something you want to finish from 2022: my fucking novel
something you want to stop doing: nibbling my nails when deep in thought
something you want to keep doing: rowing on a rowing machine five days a week; I still hate cardio but I sure like watching numbers go up—and my 500m pace go down
tagging @chantgirl @mad-cow-mama @confusedanon @gleedcanon @endlessmidnightparade @eagle-raider @parliament-of-owlets and you, yes you... but no obligation, and no rush

Because I'm having my first AU anniversary in a month (and I'm also moving into a new house),I can't wait to celebrate…
Tumblr media
Okay… Chris and Miss McLean (Owlet) are here, but where is Christina?
Well, I'm doing this (unfortunately, I didn't finish the drawing to the end) … But besides her, I also have other TD next generation…(By the way, I can draw a little in TD style)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Regarding the backstory of Christina and Miss McLean (Owlet), I will do the following - Christina's backstory will be in my comic either chapter 2 or chapter 5, but the backstory of her stepmother will be a separate mini-comic dedicated to her)

Dangers elsewhen
-Three weeks later-
With Lilith's aid, the owl squad made excellent progress. The original portal door was in pieces following the last big battle. Alador Blight was granted what remained as research materials. Odalia immediately made a move for the ownership of Blight Industries. Alador began a start up company as a means of stable income. Thus allowing him more time for his kids and a better business model. "Abomination Technological Solutions" became the beginning of a better future for the Blight family. King was also a part of the portal making process. The knowledge of King's titan origin was maintained to a few. The owl house gang( including Luz's Hexside squad) were the only ones who knew. After discussing it, Alador was permitted to be amongst those who knew. At King's suggestion, the portal doors still needed to be perfected. The young titan's blood was a potential ingredient. With King's help, Alador created temporary doorways. However, they were one time transports. A round trip would require two keys. Alador theorized that, since King hadn't reached full maturity, his blood didn't produce the same exponential power as his fallen father.
They shouldn't expect the same results. Needless to say, Alador constructing an abomination prosthetic arm was a step in the right direction.
Luz decided to take the trip alone. The time she wanted to travel to wouldn't have been too far back. The chance of accidentally running into a past self was higher with more people.
After three weeks, they managed to find one closest to what Luz wanted. At the bottom of what  remained of Belos's castle, Luz and her team readied themselves.
Lilith: "Are you positive the portal you want is down here?"
Eda: "I still say one of us should go with you."When the Collector terraformed the Boiling Isles, the old castle was left in ruin. Now, it had an entire team from the (former) construction coven always on standby. Luz tied a fortified rope around her. Remembering what happened last time, the "Bad girl coven" came to make sure Luz came back ok.
Luz: "If anything goes wrong, you've still got one time travel expert with you."
Eda: "Calling her an 'expert' is pushing it. But we gotcha. Anyhow, take these."
The owl lady pulled a large sack, filled with spherical glass bottles.
Eda: " I grabbed every healing potion out there. Every possible elixir for any possible trouble. From scrapes to having one foot through death's door, there's something for everything."
Luz embraced her witch mother/teacher. She then began stocking her backpack with as many as she could. Lilith handed her two makeshift keys. Edric laid out wooden stakes surrounding the pool and secured Luz's rope with others attached to each post.
Luz: "Come on, time pool, mama wants a win here."
Luz dove headfirst into the unknown. She popped right out of the ground, on the other side. Undoing her tether, she quickly pressed her back against the wall and pulled a bandana. With her make do mask, she traveled the castle's lower levels. Hunter had drawn her a map and tried to recall any minor detail about the building's routine. The first hiccup became apparent. Belos could be heard speaking in the distance. Her eyes darted until she saw a light coming from an unlocked wooden door. She dashed for it and found herself in the same room from Belos's memories. The old portal door. To the left, blueprints for door keys and a book on grimwalkers.
Luz: "Aaand snoop."
Now that she had a new working phone, snatching quick shots of castle secrets was a cinch. She pocketed the goods and made her way to the exit. Until a new idea caused her to halt in her tracks. Belos probably had the original key on him. But he must be using titan's blood or something close to a synthetic version.  She popped open a valve and dipped an empty bottle in the fuel source. After filling it to the brim, she stored it in her left pocket.
Belos: "Helping yourself to some royal secrets, thief?"
Luz was thrown against the wall with her bag on the floor.
Belos: "Is that a human good? Are you one of the owl lady's agents?"
Luz kept glyphs up her sleeve for such occasions. She faked a finger twirl as she fired off a fire glyph. Belos deflected the shot with an unamused demeanor.
Belos: "Rather sloppy tactic. Did you really expect to defeat me in one on one combat?"
Smirking under her bandana, she gestured to the contents left on his table. One of the blueprints caught fire. For a moment, Belos shifted his focus completely away from Luz. In that moment, she used a fire and ice glyph to create a mist that filled the room. Not missing a beat, she activated an invisibility glyph. Belos wasn't yet aware of the glyph combo. He'd been scanning the room for any signs of a glowing halo. So busy looking for one specific sign of magic, he didn't notice the bag suddenly disappear from view. After retrieving her things, she bolted for the door. Belos might not have been able to see her, but he did hear the door creak as it opened. Luz escaped the room, but let out a gasp when a pipe just missed her head. Belos launched the metal pipes through the wall from the inside. Unfortunately, they just happened to block the way back to the pool. She remembered Hunter talking about the castle air ducts. If she could find one, she might be able to find another way to the other side. Sprinting under the cover of another invisibility glyph, she ran towards the upper levels. As luck would have it, she would need to breathe; right as the head of the illusion coven came around the corner.
Graye: "I don't remember requesting an understudy. Especially one with your fashion sense."
Belos: " Graye!"
No time to play it safe. She pulled one of Alador's keys, but it disappeared in her hand. Graye disappeared and reappeared next to Belos, with her key in his hand.
Graye: "Here you are, sir. What do you make of this?"
Belos: "Another crude attempt to impede the day of unity. Compliments of the owl lady, no doubt. Graye, find out what this one knows."
As dangerous as it was to leave a key here, she used her spare to open a portal next to the pool. As it formed, Graye used his mirror glass earring on Luz. She stumbled as his magic probed her memories. The pain didn't let her see straight.Graye: "The day of unity is right around the corner. So, what is she plotting?"
Graye saw memories of the C.A.T.S briefing their plan to Eda and the others, but only glimpses.
Graye: "Raine Whispers a sleeper agent? Now there's a twist."
The warped door opened in front of them, just as Luz wanted. One glitch that came with these incomplete doors. When they first open up, they flash a blinding light. Graye clamped his eyes shut from the pain. As it turned out, the Belos own eyes nearly burst out of their sockets when the crude doorway began to take form. Thus, he witnessed the blinding effect.. She stumbled towards the door and walked through. Sure enough, there was the rope leading right into the floor.
Luz: " Ok, now I just got to..."
Graye: " You're not going anywher..."
Out of sheer reflex, Luz sucker punched Graye as he peeked his head through. He didn't make it through, but Luz's key did. The doorway seemed to be closing, but then something stranger happened. Normally, the temporary doorways disappear into thin air. But instead, a whirlwind seemed to come from the pool. The room became enveloped in the portal's lights. Luz began to be carried by the up draft. Her spare key flew out of grasp, alongside the bottle of portal fuel she snatched. It was like a violent tornado was squating in there, with her. Her first step was to reunite her tether to herself. The fortified rope began to pull her back as it felt the "signal". She tried to snatch the last two pieces of her present. The bottle smashed against the wall, permitting its contents to swirl around the room. Her key became smeared with Belos' fuel. Just as she was close to being dragged down, she managed to clench the key in her fist. She could hear the voices approaching from the hallway. She might have bitten off more than she could chew. She thought of her family and friends.
Luz: "This is crazy. If I die here, my mom's gonna kill me."
Her nerves caused her to unintentionally press the key's button...on the way down.
Author’s note:
I forgot to mention last time, Eda has an abomination prosthetic arm from Alador. The reason Luz went looking for a vent instead of using the makeshift key is stealth. The flash would likely have caught the attention of anyone nearby. Her first fight with Belos taught her she couldn’t beat him head-on. He had been able to maneuver around her and had an array of tricks. If she wasn’t sure he could blind him and close her escape in pinch, she wouldn’t risk him discovering a new door model. This way, Belos would just believe it was an illusion meant only to blind him long enough for her to escape. His own ego wouldn’t permit him to admit that someone had built another door model. Much less a faceless intruder.
I also wanted something to explain how they figured out the C.A.T.S. plan for the day of unity. I didn’t like the idea that one of them had been a traitor.
