Pairings: Mob!Bucky Barnes x reader
Warnings: language, smut, angst, fluff, affair, cheating, violence. Very very slight mention of small forceable touching. It’s towards the end so if it’s a trigger. Please don’t read. You can skip and not miss anything.
Summary: Reader is the assistant to New York's most feared mob boss, James Buchanan Barnes. He had the picture-perfect life: status in the mob, friends, and beautiful wife. So why can't he keep his mind and eyes off of reader?
Authors Notes: I've italicized a certain spot in this chapter that I found a prompt for on Pinterest and absolutely fell in love with so I wanted to use it in a story of mine. Kind of a long one but the only one for tonight. As I mentioned in the warnings, small amount of forceable touching towards the end. Feel free to skip ahead.

I palmed my eyes, rubbing away the blurry tiredness that clouded them, and continued to read the papers in front of me. This should have been done hours ago but I found myself becoming busy with answering phone calls from the other gangs around New York because they wanted information about the next meeting. My work day ended over an hour ago and with how angry Bucky seemed at me earlier, I wanted to make sure all of my work was finished before leaving.
“You’re still here?”
I looked away from the papers and gave Steve a weak smile. “I thought you left already.”
He nodded. “I did but Bucky needed me to come back. Something came up.”
I looked towards the closed door of Bucky’s office and sighed. It had been a few hours since I had seen him and wasn’t sure what he was doing behind the closed door.
“Is everything alright?” I asked, looking back at Steve.
Steve stuffed his hands deep into his pants pockets. “Don’t worry about it. You should get home and get some sleep.”
I squinted my eyes at him, clearly understanding that he was hiding something from me. I was interrupted by asking what by the front door of the small building opening, a fiery redhead bounding inside.
“Oh, Steve. You’re still here?”
He gave a warm smile to Natasha. “Bucky called me back. We need to take care of something.”
“With Thor? Bucky told me that he low balled you guys again with his payment,” Natasha ignored me, only keeping her attention on Steve.
My stomach dropped with jealousy, hearing that they talked about this with Natasha.
“I thought Bucky specifically counted the money? I was with him and he said it was all there,” I said.
That got Natasha’s attention and she looked at me with a parted lip expression.
“Bucky went with you?”
I nodded. “Last week. He was going to send me with Sam but he was out sick and Steve was busy so Bucky just came with me.”
“He didn’t mention that,” Natasha muttered to herself.
“I’m not exactly sure what happened. Bucky said to meet him here so we can head over to Thor’s club,” Steve shrugged.
At the mention of his name, Bucky appeared almost out of nowhere and was surprised to not only see Natasha there but me there as well, still working.
“Sweetheart, I didn’t know you were coming by. I told you I was going to be late tonight,” Bucky said.
She laid a very deep kiss upon his lips, clearly one that Bucky had no problem returning. I had to look away not only because of the jealousy that filled me but the awkwardness I felt between them. Nothing happened between Bucky and I so there was no reason to feel this way. But I couldn’t help it, especially with how different Bucky had been acting when it was only him and I together.
Steve didn’t miss the hurt look in my eyes.
“I wanted to surprise you. I thought that we could get a few minutes together before you had to leave,” Natasha’s fingers dragged down the front of Bucky’s chest and lingered over his belt.
She clearly didn’t care that Steve and I were there still, watching this unfold.
Bucky shifted uncomfortably under her touch and when our eyes met, I had to look away, hoping he couldn’t tell how hurt I was watching them.
He did.
“Nat, I’m sorry but I don’t have any time for this,” Bucky sighed while taking her hands off of him.
“Well, I guess I’ll go back home then and wait for you.” She ran a hand through her hair, the hurt and embarrassment clear on her face.
Bucky shook his head before he motioned to his office. “I’ve got two minutes. Why don’t you tell me about your day?”
That brightened up Natasha’s face as she eagerly nodded and followed Bucky into his office, the door left wide open. I couldn’t help but watch as they conversed quietly amongst themselves, the smile that played at Bucky’s lips sunk my heart deep into my stomach and it was weighed down when he moved a strand of hair out of Natasha’s face, tucking it behind her ear.
How I longed and wished that was me.
Steve sighed as he sat on the edge of my desk and looked down at me, arms crossed over his chest.
“What?” I asked, not bothering to take my eyes off of Bucky.
“You’re staring at him again,” he observed.
Embarrassed, I looked down at my feet and shrugged. “I’m not. I simply looked over in that direction and he was there.”
“Then why was that look on your face?” Steve snickered.
“What?” I shook my head. “What look?”
Steve bore his own hurt expression. “Everytime you look at him, you get this certain spark in your eyes. Almost as if you’re looking at the night sky.”
“And?”
He let out a broken breath. “You love the night sky.”
My heart dropped again, only this time it was because of how hurt Steve sounded and suddenly I realized why he felt that way.
“Oh, Steve,” I breathed while standing to my feet.
My hand went to cup his cheek but he was quick to stand, Bucky and Natasha walking out of the office. I didn’t have the chance to talk to Steve about what I realized because he had moved away from me, almost as if I had breathed a sickness unto him.
“I’ll see you when I get home, alright?” Bucky placed a kiss on Natasha’s lips.
I averted my gaze to my shoes and danced on my heels.
“Y/N, do you want me to wait for you and we can walk to our cars together?” She suggested.
“Oh, I-.” I stumbled over my words, trying to rack my brain for an excuse as to why I couldn’t leave quite yet.
I knew the only reason why Natasha wanted to walk with me to my car was to make sure that I wasn’t alone with Bucky yet again.
“She’s finishing up some work for me. Not worth it to have you wait around,” Bucky spoke for me.
I gave him a small smile of thanks.
They said another quick goodbye and when she was gone, I crossed my arms over my chest while leaning all of my weight onto my left foot.
“So, Thor low balled you with the cash yet again?” I asked Bucky with a raised brow.
He sighed. “Don’t worry about it. Steve and I will handle it.”
“What’s the real reason why you’re going to New Asgard?”
Bucky and Steve looked at me with slight shock.
“How do you know the name of his club?” Steve asked.
I shrugged as if it was no big deal. “I’ve been there once or twice. It’s a crazy place and there’s only two reasons why people go there; sex and drugs.”
Bucky ran a hand over his beard. “Is that why you went there?”
I didn’t miss the jealousy in his voice.
“Hell no. I went with my friend Wanda a year ago after she lost her boyfriend. She wanted to let loose and she did. It wasn’t my scene.”
“But I do know that you’re not going to get in just the two of you,” I continued. “New Asgard has a strict rule of allowing male members inside when they’re alone.”
Steve spoke next. “I’m sure if we tell them that we were there to talk with Thor, they’ll let us in.”
I snorted. “If you wanted to talk with him, why don’t you meet with him at Asgard Industries?”
The two men shared a look, not saying a word.
“So if you want to get into his club, you’re going to need me,” I said while getting my things together.
“Fuck no,” Bucky shook his head. “I’m not letting you go anywhere near Thor especially after how he was acting around you the last time.”
I shrugged before slipping into my jacket. “Which is exactly why you need me tonight. I can distract him while the two of you do whatever it is you need to do. I’m assuming that is top secret mob boss stuff.”
Their silence gave me their answer.
“So,” I nodded. “I’ll meet you outside the club in one hour.”
“Where are you going?” Steve questioned.
“Home to change. Business attire isn’t exactly New Asgard dress code,” I informed him.
Bucky shook his head in disagreement while grabbing my elbow to stop me. “I don’t like the idea of you throwing yourself onto Thor to help out Steve and I. We’re not going to be there in case something happens.”
The fire from his touch burned all of my insides and I resisted the urge to taste him. So instead, I gently removed myself from his grasp.
“Too bad it’s not up to you. I’ll meet you out front in one hour.”
I ignored their protests, knowing that whatever their true intentions were tonight, that they needed me in order to distract Thor.
Tumblr media
My heels clicked loudly against the pavement in tangent with the loud bass blaring from the club as I walked up. There was a long line of people, waiting to get inside, but I knew that in order to get inside, there was no point in waiting in line. There was a slight chill in the air tonight as it wrapped around me, the bottom of my very tight dress doing nothing to warm my legs as it stopped just below my ass. The low cut was very revealing and the red color choice was perfect for tonight.
Not for Thor but for Bucky.
Word around the office was that he loved his women in red.
I found the two men whispering to each other and when I walked up, it seized, both of their eyes drinking in my appearance. Steve simply licked his lips as his eyes looked me up and down.
Bucky, however, wore a look I had never seen before. His breath caught in his throat while his jaw dropped, eyes turning dark.
“Hi boys,” I smiled.
Steve let out a low whistle. “You clean up nice.”
“Thank you, Steve.” I looked towards Bucky, who still hadn’t uttered a word.
“Cat got your tongue?” I teased.
His tongue rolled slowly over his bottom lip and the sheer desire I felt oozing from his stare froze my feet in place. I suddenly felt small in front of him as his eyes grazed up from the tips of my toes to the top of my head, taking his sweet time over the swell of my chest.
His eyes showed what he didn’t say; Bucky wanted to taste every inch of me.
My skin burned with the thought.
“Should we, uh, head inside?” I asked.
Reluctantly, the men nodded and they followed me to the front of the line where one of Thor’s men stood with a clipboard in his hand, like the typical bouncer at a club.
“Ms. Y/N, how are you? It’s been awhile,” he smiled.
“Hello Heimdall!” I cheered while stepping into his open arms. “I’m sure Thor told you that he was expecting us tonight?”
I nodded over my shoulder to Steve and Bucky, who were not too keen on me having this man's arms around me.
Heimdall looked past me and wore a low scowl. “You know how we feel about outsiders on our streets, Y/N.”
I let out a fake sigh. “I know and I’m so sorry. But I needed to see Thor and these two wouldn’t let me go alone. Something about New Asgard being too dangerous for a girl like me.”
“As if you couldn’t handle yourself here. I’ve seen it a few times,” Heimdall reminded me.
I snorted. “And yet you guys still allow me to come back.”
Bucky sneaked up behind me, his hand ghosting over my lower back, and I felt his warm breath against my ear. “We need to get inside now, doll.”
My body shivered and I peered down at his phone when I saw that he was showing me something.
I’m alright, boss. But I can’t promise that I’ll be alive in the next hour. I’m sorry I got caught again. I promise it won’t happen again as long as you get me out of here.
“Fucking Peter Parker,” I grumbled.
So that was the reason why we were here, to save Peter’s ass.
“The faster we get inside, the faster we can leave, and these pathetic excuses of men stop gawking at you,” Bucky seethed.
I saw what he was so upset about; a few men in the line waiting to go inside had averted looking from their dates to take in the sight of me. I smiled smugly towards Bucky.
“Are you jealous?”
His jaw tensed but remained silent, giving me my answer. I turned my attention back to Heimdall.
“Well, it will be ten minutes, top. Promise,” I made an effort to make an X over my chest.
Reluctantly, he nodded before stepping to the side, allowing the three of us to enter the club.
The music radiated off of us and the heat from the packed bodies around us brought a fast sweat to my skin. Bucky and Steve were close to my side as we maneuvered our way through the crowd and over towards the bar.
“So what did Parker get into this time?” I asked Bucky.
He sighed. “He tried selling to Thor without knowing who he was so Thor was upset that Parker was dealing on his streets without getting a cut so now I have to save his ass.”
I ordered a drink from the bartender and smiled a thanks as she handed it to me. My eyes peered over the rim of the glass as I looked at Bucky.
“I’m surprised you’re here to save him. I thought for sure it was a Steve or Sam kind of job,” I admitted.
“He was adamant that he would come with me tonight,” Steve spoke from behind me.
The feeling of his body pressed into my back from how close he was made me bite my lip when the large bulge in his pants pressed into the bareness of my thigh. This was a new feeling with Steve and as much as I loved the feeling of him pressed up against me, I knew that it would falter in a moment.
“What’s the plan?”
Bucky pointed with a vibranium finger towards a door far off in the distance. “That’s Thor’s office and most likely where he’s keeping Parker. You need to distract Thor long enough for Steve and I to save Parker.”
I tossed back the rest of my drink and nodded. “Shouldn’t be too hard.”
“Hey,” Bucky grasped my hand, linking our fingers together. There was a shock that filled the both of us but I pushed the feeling to the side.
“Can you promise that if you get a bad feeling, you leave? Meet in my car down the road?”
I nodded. “Of course.”
With a gentle squeeze, our hands dropped and I frowned at the sudden chill I felt but pushed on, hoping to find Thor in the crowded club.
After a few minutes of searching and avoiding grabbing hands of the random men, I spotted Thor on the second level, sitting in his own secluded section. Our eyes locked and through gritted teeth, I forced a smile and gave him a wave. The look of excitement that crossed his lips did nothing to ease my nerves. He had been so persistent the other day when I first met him that I was a bit afraid of how he would be tonight.
With a quick wave, I ascended up the steps to his section and had no issue passing the guard at the top of the stairs.
“I was hoping you would show,” Thor beamed.
“I did text you, didn’t I?” The fakeness in my voice scared me.
He motioned to the open spot next to him on the couch. “Care for a drink?”
I shook my head. “I’ve already had one, thank you. I’ve got to work in the morning.”
Thor and I leaned back into the couch, his arm resting on the edge behind me. His long blonde hair had been braided back out of his face and his beard had been trimmed nicely. If I wasn't so creeped out with how forward he had been before, I would have found him attractive.
“Barnes has you working late nights and early mornings, eh?” Thor asked.
I shook my head yet again. “It isn't so bad. I did get to meet you, so that’s a perk.”
My hand rested against his arm and I gave it a slight squeeze. Thor leaned in closer, his breath fanning against the crook of my neck, and his own hand began rubbing up and down the bare skin of my thigh.
I froze under his touch when his fingers slipped underneath my dress.
“Why don’t we move this to my office? Much more private there,” his lips brushed against my skin.
I tried to move away from him but his grip on the inside of my thigh tightened.
“You know what, I forgot my phone down at the bar. I should go grab it,” I lied.
Thor ignored me, his fingers sliding farther up underneath my dress and I placed my hands over his to try to stop him.
“Thor, stop. I don’t like this.”
My words fell onto his deaf ears and I thrashed against him, tears welling in eyes, when I felt a finger hook into my panties.
Suddenly, vibranium fingers wrapped around his throat and I let out a small scream, scooting farther away. Bucky had Thor pinned against the couch, his oxygen getting cut off instantly.
“If I see you touching her like that again, I’ll make sure to end your life without a second thought, understood?” Bucky fumed.
Thor couldn’t speak so he nodded and Bucky tossed him to the floor, his loud gasps of air echoing around us.
Bucky was quick at my side scoping me up to my feet, his arms locked safely around me.
“Are you alright, doll?” He asked.
I shook my head, the tears falling, but my throat had closed up, not being able to speak.
Redness covered me with embarrassment as I allowed this to happen, Thor getting that close to me. I wanted to help out Bucky and Steve so I let my guard down.
“Don’t do that,” Bucky cupped my cheeks. “Do not blame yourself, Y/N. This wasn’t your fault.”
It was as if he read my mind, knowing that I was blaming myself.
I nodded in his grasp. “Can you take me home?”
Bucky’s lips ghosted in my hairline and I melted into his embrace, my hands grasping at his back.
“Of course, doll.”
With soft sobs falling from my lips, I let Bucky lead me out of the club and the fresh air still did nothing to calm me.

I dare you to let me go
(This is part 7 of my fic. Enjoy reading!)
Part 6 ↓
AVERY
The next two months may have been the worst time of Avery's life. Poverty, attempts on her life, pressure of the world, nothing compared to this. She threw herself even more into her work, tried not to be in the house that suddenly felt so lonely. Jameson and her didn't spend every waking moment together, even before everything went to hell, but he'd always be there. Making mischief, speeding cars on the track, sunbathing in the solarium or jumping off of his beloved climbing wall. She could feel him being there, and that was a great comfort. Now it felt so empty.
Jameson was still in the UK. He had come home for Christmas and New Year's, though. But the Hawthorne House was big enough for him to never see her.
She had to do something. Just because he told her to go away doesn't mean she'd just obey.
The next day, Alisa was in her office with Gray.
"Alisa. I need you to research every loophole on this."
The next few hours, the for of them discussed every possible outcome regarding her… proposition.
"Are you sure you want to do this, Avery?" Grayson asked her, even though he jumped on board with the idea.
"Yes."
------------------------------------------------
"Hey, Priscilla."
"Oh dear! Get inside, you all."
"That's okay. Is Jameson not home?" That was Xander, peeking in.
"Oh no, sweetie. He's in London. He had been since his mot was here two weeks ago."
Avery frowned. "A mot?"
"The blonde one."
"What's her name?"
"Don't know, girl. Mario tells me she's the Countess of Caithness. Real charmer."
Mario was the security at the front gate. No doubt they'd talked around. Even the media had gotten the hint they weren't together anymore. Their theories only made her feel worse.
Avery tried to mask her disappointment. He was flying around the globe like it was a ball, but he'd only come home for the sake of holidays. Just when she'd tracked him down, he was in London.
She was nervous on the flight there, and Xander tried using his distraction skills to it's best.
"What do you think he's doing in London? You know, other than getting into trouble."
Avery ignored that and voiced her fears thoughts instead, "do you think he's dating someone?"
"Probably." Said Lyra, casually sipping on her Manhattan. "What? It could happen. He's single and a Hawthorne. It could even be that blonde." She shrugged when Grayson glared at her.
-------------------------------------------------
Jameson was not in his apartment, not at the mercy, and not with Simon. Max had stumbled into a famous bookstore. After Avery started panicking again, Lyra tried to redeem herself for her previous taunting, and dragged them to her favourite bar place in the city.
"You need to chill. Come on, the Manhattan on the flight has started losing its effect, anyway."
Inside the club, called The Onyx, Avery realised how fucked up a sense of humour life had, when she saw Jameson… with a girl.
"We did not go through so much trouble with Sheffield Grayson just for you to commit murder yourself," Grayson said, warning Avery, her dagger eyes on Jameson and the pretty blonde sitting together. He proceeded to say something that made them both laugh a lot and she touched his arm. It was his real laugh, which only made her more jealous.
"Gray's right. Max says it's harder to hide bodies in winter." Why Max knew that, no one knew. "Besides, don't you need to, you know, be married to be Countess?"
"Caithness is in Scotland, Xan. Some women there can just inherit the title. As a matter of fact, she's on google. Unmarried." She showed him a Wikipedia page.
While Lyra and Xan kept chattering, Jameson had spotted them. She waved at him. They got up and came toward them.
The blonde put out her hand, "Bridget. Nice to meet you." Avery put aside the most vivid fantasies she had sitting there of pulling the hand that touched him and burn it, and shook it instead. "Avery."
After initial introductions, avery excused herself to the bathroom.
Stay cool, calm, and collected.
"Heiress."
Avery turned around to see Jameson standing there. She turned around slowly to face him. He looked so beautiful, it hurt. His eyes seemed brighter, somehow. And his face and posture looked more relaxed, like when you water a drying plant. She felt equal parts guilty and ashamed that it took him leaving her to feel like himself again.
"I have to tell you something." He just nodded. Her heart was thumping rapidly in her chest.
"I gave up the Hawthorne foundation. It officially belongs to Grayson now." Jameson was shocked. He blinked twice, as if it wasn't real and all in his head.
"How? I thought you couldn't-"
"I told you, I'm not letting you go. Not now, not ever. But i had too many expectations from too many people. I had to release some of it. So, I researched every loophole the past couple of months, and made it official, it can't be undone now. And i wouldn't have it any other way." She always knew the Hawthorne foundation was what Grayson really missed about losing the inheritance, and she had her own foundation, her own purpose.
She kept talking, if he wasn't going to.
"So, your girlfriend's nice." The best way to cut out the awkward parts, according to her, was to rip off the bandaid asap.
“I'm not here on a date. Bridget's just a friend,” Jameson said in a small voice.
“Then why…”
"Why did Priscilla say-" his eyes glittered with emotion.
“Because I knew you'd ask her. Because I'm afraid of getting too attached again. I've been fighting against my still-consistent longing for you, and I almost gave in. I don’t…” He inhaled a shuddering breath.
“I’m scared I’ll go back and lose myself again. I’m scared you’ll get comfortable and take back you're words. I can’t go through that a second time, Avery. I can’t.” Avery put her hands on his neck.
"I won't, Jameson. I'll never take us back to that time." She pressed her forehead against his.
“Give us another chance,” she said. “One last chance. I promise I won’t hurt you. I know my promises don’t mean much to you anymore, and that's entirely my own doing, but tell me what you want me to do, and I’ll do it.”
This time, it was her who waited. Waited for so long, she wasn't sure he'd even heard her. When it became clear he wasn't going to say anything, she turned around.
"Heiress."
She hadn't even turned around halfway before Jameson grabbed her hand to gently pulled her toward him…
And kissed her.

The Grandest Game
Chapter 5
———————————————————
LYRA:
As we walked to my room, I felt oddly nervous and… well, surprised. I didn’t think Grayson would start freaking out once I told him that I was the girl who had called his phone, but telling him was also easier than I had expected. Suddenly, Grayson stops walking, which snapped me out of my thoughts, and I turned to see the door to my room.
“This is your room. Avery’s is the last one right down the hall, so if you ever have any questions you can go to her.” He says. I open the door to my room and walk in, hauling my luggage and backpack into it. I couldn’t stop my mouth from shaping into an ‘o’ at the size of the room, because it was massive. Like the size of my living room, kitchen, and bathroom combined. I looked towards two doors, one for the bathroom and one for a walk in closet. What even is this place? I glanced back to Grayson, who was watching me in the doorway with an almost amused expression on his face.
“What, you’re just used to the richie life, Mr. Hawthorne?” I asked, raising a brow. He raised one back.
“Well, I can’t say that I’m not, Ms. Kane.” He says, using my last name to address me just like how I had used his to address him. Really looking at his face now, I just realized how well his eyes contrasted his suit. I looked away and put my stuff down near my bed.
“Does Avery want us to meet up again to discuss the rules of The Game, or are we unpacking first?” I asked, turned away from him.
“Just put your stuff down and we can head back to the foyer, she just needs to discuss a few more things.” He states. I nod before turning back to him, and walking out of my room. He gets out of my doorway and heads back the way we came from to the foyer.
——————————————————————————
Avery had finally finished explaining how it was all going to go down, and I basically knew as much as when I first got here. Weekends are free for family to visit or just to do whatever you want, breakfast, lunch, and dinner is at 8:30, 12:00, and 5:00, and we’ll get texts from Avery and the other game masters if we need to meet up anywhere to discuss clues.
“But that’s all. You all are free to head back to your rooms, explore, or do whatever you’d like in the house for today, since you just got here. And if you have any questions whatsoever, just send me a text!” She says, holding up her phone. All of us start to walk away, including me, when the girl with braids and glasses from earlier pops up in front of me.
“Hello!” She says, smiling. She had a perfect, toothpaste ad smile and a bubbly attitude.
“Oh, hi.” I say, caught off guard.
“My names Briana Maxford, but you can call me Bree. What’s yours?” She asks me. Oh, I just now realized, she’s trying to get to know the contestants, starting with me.
“Mines Lyra Kane.” I say. Her smile grows.
“Your names really pretty.”
“Oh, thank you.”
“I know this is random but… would you like to explore the house with me?” It was random. But, I had to get to know the other contestants better at some point, so I guess this was a good start. I smiled.
“Let’s do it.”
——————————————————————————
We had mainly been wandering through corridors and finding a gym, basketball court, bowling alley, and more rooms. I didn’t understand how this place was so big. It was like a 5 star hotel with everything you could ever dream of in it. Just then, we find a large entrance to.. something. I turned to Bree.
“Should we check it out?” I asked. She nodded, her eyes sparkling. We walked in and I gasped at the sight of it. It was a library, a giant one, with rows and rows of books. There were swirled staircases to reach the higher shelves, and giant windows to let the sunlight peek through. Finally, for the first time since I had arrived, a real, true smile shone on my face. I loved books. There’s not anything to not like about them, and I had a feeling that this is where I was going to be spending most of my time. Suddenly, I spotted a guy who was looking at the books himself, and spying us as well. It was the guy with the interesting stance from before, the one who had winked at me. Our eyes locked and my smile dropped as he started to walk towards us.
“Well, hello.” He says, with a sly smile. He had a British accent, and I just now realized that people from all around the world could be here.
“Hi.” I say in deadpan. Bree says the same thing, but in a much lighter tone.
“Do you two have names?” He asks us. No, I wanted to say, just be petty. Of course we had names.
“Her names Lyra, and mines Briana, but you can just call me Bree. What’s yours?” She asks.
“Rohan. What brings you to The Game?” He asks, raising a brow.
“The money, of course.” Bree replies, with a half shrug. He nods. Then, he turns to me, a thoughtful expression on his face.
“And what about you? Do you have any hobbies, or do you just brood and give people one word replies?” He asks me.
“I have hobbies. Do you, or do you just corner people in libraries and force them to answer random questions?” I shoot back. His eyebrows raise.
“Of course I do. I write, I fight, I gamble.” He says, a twinkle in his eyes. I narrow my eyes at him.
“Gamblings not a hobby.”
“Sure it is. You should try it out sometimes.” His hands go behind his back.
“If I wanted to watch men dig holes for themselves to roll into, I would have gone to a graveyard.” I say in deadpan. He grins, and even Bree smiles.
“Alrighty. You have fun brooding. And for you,” He says, turning his gaze to Bree, “I hope to see you around sometime.” He smiles at her. She smiles back.
“Same with you, Rohan.” She replies. He nods, before glancing back at me and turning to walk away.
“He seems nice.” Bree suggested. I make a face but nod. Suddenly, we both get texts from Avery. It read, “siNce tomorrow Is a saturday, family is allowed to visit and you Get tHe day To yourSelf. alThough i mAy waNt to have a few worDs with you then, but it won’t take too long.” At first glance, I could tell there was a code in the text. Seeing if she would notice, I show Bree the text, and she just reads it and shrugs.
“More relaxation time. Wanna head back to our rooms?” She asked, since we had already seen almost all of the house. I nodded and we headed back, hoping to not get lost.
——————————————————————————
Back in my room, I check the text again and make a word out of the uppercase letters. NIGHTSTAND. Well, that was easy. Easier than I expected. Going to my nightstand, I grabbed the letter off of it and read what was inside. “Hello Lyra Kane! Welcome to The Game. I am so glad to have you as one of our contestants, and I hope you enjoy your time here. Feel free to explore the house whenever you feel like it, as I’m sure there is always at least one thing that remains unseen. - The Game Masters.” I frowned and reread it. My brain couldn’t stop latching onto the last part, and I felt like I was missing something.
“Remains unseen.” I muttered. Then, a puzzle piece clicks into place in my brain as I realize what the note was trying to say. Remains unseen. A thought hits me as I go towards the desk in my room. I searched it to see if it had anything I needed, when my eyes fell on a small black light. I picked it up and placed it over the blank end of the envelope, to see if there was anything written there, when text starts to appear. I place the black light closer, and start to read it. “MEET IN THE LIBRARY ON FRIDAY, 9:30 PM” It read. So much for ‘having the day to ourselves’. But, if I was going to be here, I had to do something, right? I wonder what Eve would tell me to do. Probably tell me to get close to the Hawthornes, but there’s no possible way I could do that if I can’t even socialize with another contestant. It doesn’t matter. Once I find out what happened to my father, and Eve gives me my money, I can get my family out of this place and never look back. That’s what I’m working towards. And if I can make it happen, then it’ll be worth it.
——————————————————————————
THERES A SIX OF CROWS LINE IN HERE THAT I USED, AND IF U READ THE BOOK U MIGHT RECOGNIZE IT 😜😜
also I wanted this chapter to focus more on the game instead of just grayson and lyras (cough cough love story cough cough- who said that?) interactions so you won’t see much of that in this one unfortunately 😔😢

Chapter VIII, Chapter IX. Chapter X, Chapter XI, Chapter XII, Next
*note play How To Save A Life while reading this chapter cause we're emotional*
Lyra’s phone ringing on the table with Lia’s name was the last thing she wanted to see during this dinner. Still, she knew she couldn’t just let it ring like that her anxiety wouldn’t let her.
“Oh, I'm so sorry. Is it okay if I take this? It’s Lia,” Lyra felt bad for having to step away like this but all she could do was hope Yerim understood.
“I swear to god, Lia, if you're about to ask me to bring you home something to eat the answer is no.” Okay, so Lyra wasn’t over the spat they had earlier. Everything is fine, it’s fine.
“Lyra,” the sound of Lia’s voice over the phone sent chills down Lyra’s spine. It was quiet and horse, something was obviously wrong on the other end of the phone. “Ly, I think something is wrong. I’m bleeding and my head hurts so bad I can barely see.”
“Okay, I’m on my way back to the apartment right now, stay on the line let me get out of this restaurant real quick, Okay?” The cold rush of panic hit Lyra’s blood system as she rushed back over to the table. Something in the back of her mind told her it was rude to leave like this but her only concern was getting home. Lia wasn’t the type to admit when something was wrong unless she thought it was a life-or-death situation.
That thought shook Lyra to the core.
“I’m so sorry Yerim, I’m going to have to go. Lia is feeling really bad and I need to go be with her. Tonight is my treat though, so I went ahead and paid. I'm so sorry I have to rush like this.”  Lyra barely heard Yerim’s response and goodbye before she was back out the door and back on the phone with Lia.
“Lia, are you still there?” Lyra was trying to not let her own panic bleed over the phone, she knew the best way to keep Lia calm was to be calm herself.
“I’m here,” she sounded even worse than just a few minutes ago, Lyra had half a mind to run the few blocks from the restaurant to their apartment but the street was too busy for her to avoid running into anyone.
“Just stay on the line with me okay, tell me about the last thing you saw on twitter? Was it anything interesting?” The first thing that came to Lyra was to keep her talking about literally anything and Twitter was easy.
“I can’t remember, I think something about the airport or someone at the airport. It was funny I think, I don’t know,” Lia could hardly keep her eyes open on the other side of the phone, she had never felt so weak in her life. Her period had come early as well which only made her feel worse. She hated it when she was spotting.
Lia could hear Lyra saying something on the other end of the phone but she was too hazy to answer at this point and the haze of her eyesight had worsened. She just wanted to sleep in her spot in the bathroom, a nap really sounded great.
But then there was the annoying sound of the door once again, keeping her from taking her nap just like it had early in the day.
“Lia. Lia!” Lyra was knocking on the other side of the bathroom door, but she couldn’t get in. Lia had locked the door when she walked into the bathroom.
“Lia,” there was Lyra's voice again, she could hear her, “Lia, I need you to get up and open the door. The paramedics are on their way, but you gotta open the door so we can help you,” Lia didn’t remember making it to the door, she didn’t remember much until they made it to the hospital really.
Everything moved fast from that point, the paramedic was there and in a matter of minutes, Lia was on a stretcher heading for the back of an ambulance. If Lyra thought that the initial phone call from Lia was the worst part of the night, she was dead wrong. It was the silence she was met in the back of the taxi as she rushed toward the hospital.
Hongjoong didn’t answer his phone.
Wooyoung’s phone went straight to voicemail.
Yunho, Seonghwa, Jongho, Mingi, Yeosang, San. Not one of them answered their phone.
They were still at practice and would be until late into the night, it was no different than any other night as far as they knew. So the only person Lyra knew could get to them was Hajoon.
“Lyra? Are you locked out of the building again?” No one expects the phone call, you know the one.
“Hajoon, we’re on our way to the hospital and I can’t get the boys to answer my calls,” Lyra was crying on the other end of the phone
“We who? Are you hurt?” He was so confused as to who was hurt, and why they were going into the hospital at almost 10 at night.
“No, not me. Not me. Lia, I'm following behind the ambulance now,” She was speaking almost too fast for Hajoon to follow, her Korean had gotten sloppy because of how upset she was.
“Tell me what happened,” over the next few minutes he just sat there listening to exactly what had happened from the moment that Lyra had gotten the call from Lia while out at dinner to where they were now on their way to the hospital. He kept her on the phone as long as he could, part of it was to try and make her calm down also so that he could get as much information about the situation as possible. He was only responsible for Ateez, his job ended and began with their well-being. These two girls weren’t his job, he didn’t have to care about them. But he did, he cared about them just as much as he cared for the boys one room over. Now it was both his job, literally and because he cared for those girls, to tell those eight boys that their soulmate was in the hospital.
“Why is it always you,huh? Can’t the universe decide to choose someone else to pick on for once,” Lyra was playing with Lia’s fingers, sitting next to her in a hospital room. It was an eerily familiar scene for the pair, but this time they were on the other side of the world and couldn’t call their moms to tell them everything would be okay.
Lia hadn’t really woken up since they left the house, there were a few moments when she would wake up before going back to sleep. The nurses had been in and out, but the doctor hadn’t been in to see them yet. The room was rather quiet besides the general buzz of a hospital room.
“Lia? Lyra?” Two people stepped into the small hospital room with black face masks covering the lower halves of their faces. Lyra could recognize her soulmates immediately, Jongho walked into the room first followed by Hongjoong.
Lyra stood as they entered the room and pulled each one of them into a tight hug, despite the brave front they were putting on she could feel their hands shaking and how they held her close. All of them were hiding how scared they really were, maybe if they acted this way the situation would right itself.
“Where’s my hug?” The three of them turned to see Lia sitting up in her hospital bed as best she could while trying to avoid getting wrapped up in the different cords attached to her.
Each of them went next to the bed, Hongjoong grabbed her hand and gently stroked the back of her hand.
“Hey,” Jongho said from the other side of her, Lia couldn’t really read his expression because of his mask but she hoped that there was a small smile on his face.
“Hey,” Lia was moving around some more and really didn’t want to be tied down to the bed anymore. She didn’t really know what happened but it was easy enough for her to put two and two together. She was in the hospital plain and simple.
Lyra hadn’t said anything, she just stepped out of the room really quickly. Lia couldn’t blame her, she didn’t remember much after getting up to use the bathroom but she did remember how harsh she had been the last time she spoke to Lyra at the house.
“How are you feeling?” Hongjoong asked, trying to figure out what was wrong with her, it all seemed to come out of nowhere.
“Bad, like someone beat me over the head with a baseball bat plus my period start and that’s always trash,” She was trying to make the situation a little more lighthearted but it was obvious that the boys were not ready yet to give into her humor.
“Why didn’t you say anything, I thought we talked about this. I though-” Hongjoong got a little choked up on his words, frustrated and worried about the person who seemed so fragile before him.
“I just thought it was a migraine, that it would just ease up. I’ve had migraines like this before,” It was the honest truth, she had migraines that had lasted for months as a teenager and there was nothing that could really be done except to take an advil.
Before they could continue their conversation, Lyra came back into the room with a nurse behind her and the small room became even smaller with all the people there. After the hospital staff was alerted that Lia had woken up it was a furry of people in and out. Redoing tests and administering new tests to try to figure out why she had ended up here. They wouldn’t tell anyone anything specific just that they were trying to get answers before they saw anything definitive.
The other boys were just as anxious to be there, but the hospital had a cap on how many people could be in the room at once, so those who were there right now would trade-off in the morning. Jongho was sure that Hongjoong and Lyra had fallen asleep in their chairs somewhere around 1 a.m. The room had become less busy and Lia had gone back to sleep after they had given her some medication to help ease any pain she was in.
He couldn’t hold it anymore as he let the tears spill over while trying not to wake anyone with his crying. He didn’t show his emotions as much as the others, but it didn’t mean he cared any less. He felt so helpless just watching from the sidelines like this, as one of the most important people in his life was suffering.
“Please be okay. Please. Please. Please,” Jongho whispered the words like a prayer of sorts, hoping that something out there would listen to him. Maybe it wasn’t that serious but sitting in a hospital room it always felt like the world didn’t continue outside. Like everything revolved around the happenings of this awful place.
“I’ll be just fine, you know,” Jongho’s head popped up to see Lia smiling at him. He quickly tried to wipe the tears from his eyes and hide the evidence that he was upset.
“How do you know that, we’re sitting in a hospital and. And-” The tears were back, heavier this time and he had to bring his fist to his mouth so as to not make any sound.
“I just do. Maybe it’s because I know that I don’t have to do this alone. That Lyra doesn’t have to sit on the other side of the bed alone this time.” Lia was holding his hand, and without second thought Jongho placed his head on her bed next to where their hands were intertwined together, every so often he would bring their hands to his lips. The two of them ended up falling asleep like that.
Soon enough the morning came, the nurses filtered back in and the doctor would make his rounds around 9 am.
“Okay, Seonghwa and Mingi will be here in a little while. Wooyoung will come around noon after his schedule is over.” Lyra looked up from her spot near the bed and nodded before getting up to give them both a hug and kiss.
“I’ll keep you all updated, I promise.” Lyra said as they moved around the room to say goodbye to Lia as well who was dosing in and out of sleep.
Not long after the boys left, the doctor finally made his rounds and had some news.
“Our tests have told us a couple things, firstly you were dealing with some lasting side effects of having soul sickness with major separation. While you were being treated, you did not finish the last of the medication, correct?” The doctor paused to get some sort of confirmation from Lia who sheepishly nodded her head confirming that she did not finish the bottle of medication she had from her last time in the hospital.
“That is why you have been feeling so fatigued and the constant migraine, so we will give you another round of medication. You must be sure to finish them this time and I promise there will be no complications if that's what you’re worried about,” Lia was following the doctor until his last little point. What type of complications was this doctor talking about, and why would that be a concern.
“I’m sorry, complications?” Lia asked the doctor rather pointedly, making it quite clear that she didn’t understand what he was referencing.
“Well, complications with the pregnancy. You don’t have to worry about the spotting, it happens sometimes during this stage of pregnancy, but overall the blood tests have told us it’s healthy thus far. We will give you some information to set up an appointment with an OB.” The doctor kept talking but Lia had tuned out his words. She hadn’t missed any of her pills, except for the night before.
“I’m pregnant.” Lia cut off the doctor, If Lyra wasn’t just as surprised at the news she would have laughed at the look on Lia’s face.
“Shut up, I’m not pregnant. Don’t joke about things like that,” Lia was sure this was some sort of joke that someone was playing. She’d laugh about it later, but for now, it wasn’t very funny.
“No, you’re pregnant. I’m sorry if you didn’t know, but I wouldn’t dare lie about this.” The doctor was taken back by the tone coming from Lia.
“Nope, not me. I refuse, I would like a refund.” Lia was adamant this was a joke or a mistake or something other than what she was hearing.
“I can show you the blood test results, or we can try and do an ultrasound. I’d say you’re just about six weeks along, so the baby should be visible. Perhaps we may even be able to see the heartbeat,” The doctor offered as a solution to which Lia readily agreed and then they would see that there was a mistake, she wasn’t pregnant.
“Oh dude, I hope there has been some sort of major mistake. We can barely take care of ourselves let alone a kid,” Lyra said while grabbing Lia’s hand, her words weren’t very calming but they did make Lia laugh so that was a plus.
Tumblr media
It would be an interesting conversation later when the boys made it home, Wooyoung was going to have a field day with this.
A/N: you know I keep say that I wont be updating for a while. I keep updating anyway. But here ya go, and trust me when I say next chapter wil have all 8 boys and their... reactions to the news. ;)

Note
Hi it’s the Pokémon fictive I’m back again hi hello
I just got hit with a huge wave of missing my home so excuse me while I talk.
My mom (the one who didn’t try to kill me, aka Amber) was/is a Wooloo/Dubwool specialist. We lived together for many years. She found me in Kalos, trapped inside a cave after who knows how many years. She took me home, helped me recovered, and I never left emotionally her side after that. Even when I was traveling the world p, the feeling of always having someone to come home to was very nice, and not like anything if ever felt in years. I was native to Kalos for the most part. Born there after being created, lived there for millennia outside of traveling and such. The kingdoms of Kalos were established, I had been in the atmosphere, sort of in a hibernating state. Unbeknownst to me, gravity had finally pulled me in. Crashing into the courtyard of the castle. The first one who found me was their princess. I can’t overstate our bond that we shared after that. It was like we were siblings, never taking a moment apart from each other. I seriously don’t even remember leaving Kalos during that time. She’d eventually even became Queen, we were together into her late ages. But of course, as all Kingdoms do, ours fell. I ended up retreating into the wilds, invisible to all. The Queen’s daughter had also been quite… not good for a lack of better word. I ended up feeling the need to leave the Queen’s side for the first time since we’d met all those years ago because of her. I don’t think I ever was the Queen again. I never even got to say a proper goodbye to her. I miss her. And for years I would never feel that kind of deep connection to anybody ever again. But Amber was different. She loved me. She didn’t care I was some weird god pretending to be a human child. She’d loved me all the same. As her own. I miss her so much. We have her in the system but we haven’t spoken in a while. I hope she’s doing okay. Anyways. We lived in Kalos together for awhile until she eventually got a place, a house lab with a large pasture, to work and live at in Galar. I moved with her, to her shocking surprise. I really don’t understand if she didn’t think i’d come with her. She was really just my mother. She had already been taking many Woolf specimens back in our home in Kalos, but now she could own all of them and have them live happily, grazing in the pasture fields. She did have a pet Wooloo even before she found me. Frills. WHO eventually did evolve into a Dubwool back in Galar.
Now to I don’t think anyone’s surprise, I was not emotionally stable, and I still am not. Frills helped me through many mental breakdowns and panic attacks. I think you can imagine having somebody searching every corner of the earth to hunt and kill you is not a pleasant thought. Frills, and my Sylveon, spots. I honestly cannot remember when I caught her. Though it was as an Eevee. I named her after her spotted and splotchy fur. They helped me more than i can express. Countless sleepless nights staring out the window in my room, cold air flowing in, trying my hardest not to just leave and burrow myself into the millions of layers of the earth to sleep forever.
I really don’t like the cold all that much. At least when I can’t manage it. Gotta tell you, being crucified on top of Mt. Lanakila in an attempt to be killed and end the world really fucks you up. Thanks, Lyra. /s
I still love Lyra. At least, in recent times. She came into the system awhile back, she was there when Amber went dormant for the first time. I didn’t know that dormancy could be temporary, so I’d really thought I’d lost my mother forever, for the second time. She helped me through it, helped me sleep. Helped me get through the days afterwards. We called a truce. Though it really wasn’t necessary on her part, as she ended coming from a world where she’d stopped trying to hunt me down after Mt. Lanakila.
It’s really a shame she had to do it on that mountain. I loved Alola, but after that I really couldn’t go back to that place. Atleast not on that island. Also, fuck Violet. Not the game. Lyra’s main assistant. I fucking hate her I hate her so much she’s the fucking worst I hate her so much. She was the worst. Worse than Lyra. So much worse. At least after a while in the timelines where Lyra kept trying to hunt me down she eventually stopped trying to taunt or tease me when she’d be about to try and kill or capture me again. But not Violet. She never stopped. I couldn’t do anything about it. I hated her so much and I still do. I don’t think i’d ever be able to forgive her.
I still want to go home. I want my body back I want my powers back I want my immortality back I want my mother again I want my Pokémon again I want my Spots I want my Frills I want my Sligoo. I want my paws I want my ears I want my fangs I want my fur. I had a necklace that reminded me of the one I had at home but I lost the pendant and i want it back. It made me feel happy. I want to see my sister again. Thorn, if you see this later, I want to talk to you more :( I’m sorry. I’m really sorry.
-🎀🐾 (sorry if this isn’t the emoji tag I used last time, I keep fluctuating between not using the paws and using them.)
Sorry this got so ventish. If you don’t want to post this that’s fine.
Hi! I'm really sorry it took so long for us to post this but we like to read everything before posting and it took us awhile to read this please don't feel bad about that and feel free to send in more stuff like this :) It's what the rambles are for sharing your story and feelings I do hope that you get to see your family again and speak to them more often and just in general I hope that life is kind to you :)

TRİPLETS
Requested by: BadAss_BiTCh-18Thanks for request,enjoy ❤️
------------------------
Draco went to work early in the morning and his beautiful wife, Y / n Malfoy, was alone at home.No matter how boring the afternoons without Draco were,she had to get used to it.
Last night Draco came home from work in a very stressful way.He was very stressed and tired.So Y / n took some steps to "relax" him, and as a result they had a wonderful night..A night full of moans and groans of them.A night full of kissing sounds,skin touching and so many..But the problem is that they did not use protection.The two were so passionate about feeling each other that they didn't even remember the protection from the haste.Therefore, Y / n is more likely to have a child.So she decided to take a pregnancy test.Although it was very risky, she had to do it.
In the bathroom, she was looking at the test results. If there are two signs, it means that she is pregnant, and if there is one sign, it means that she is not pregnant. Mrs Malfoy looked at the test in her hand and saw that there were 2 signs.She cried out with such joy that almost the whole earth could hear her..
As soon as Draco came home from work, he went to the bedroom with Y / n, greeted his wife and kissed her on the forehead.
“I missed you, darling.”He said looking at her eyes.
“Me too,baby.Andddd I have very very good news for you.”She smiled at him
.“What are these good news,hm?”He looked at her questioningly.
“Are you ready?”She asked testing him.
“Yes?”He was still confused,trying to think what this good news could be.
“You are going to be a dad,Draco!”She smiled at him.For a minute,he was frozen in his spot trying to understand if the thing he heard was real or a dream.
“Dracoo?”Y/n waved her hands at his face,trying to make him come back "to this world".
“Oh my gosh!Merlin,I am going to be a dad!I can't imagine this!Y/N I AM GOİNG TO BE A DAD!”He took her in his arms and flung her around.She just laughed at his cute reaction and he kissed her full in mouth.
“I am so so happy to have you in my life,darling.You are my sunshine,my everything.I can't imagine a day without you.Even a smile of yours brings light to my life.I never need a reason to be happy with you when I am with you.You are my love..”He said them deeply looking at her eyes and smiling truly.She just looked at him and kissed him..
~after 21 weeks~
“Darling,today is the day!No panic,okay?What gender it is,she or he is going to be our child and I am so so happy.”Draco said hugging Y/n.They went to the doctor and after examination,they sat front of the doctor and were looking for the results.
“Congrulations,Mr Malfoy and Mrs Malfoy.You have got triplets!One boy and two girls.”The doctor said smiling at them.Draco could not help but hug his pretty wife and he was so happy.
“Did you hear,Y/n?We got triplets!Three kids.They will be so cute like you.My boy is going to protect my girls.”He said laughing and hugging her tighter.
“Yes,yes!I am so happy.And their names will be as we thought: Scorpius Malfoy,Lyra Malfoy and Leo Malfoy.”She said cheerfully.He bent down and looked at her belly.
“Hello there my three cuties.How are you? Don't worry I will rescue you from there.Mommy ate y'all.”He said jokingly and she just laughed at him,messed his hair..
~after 9 months~
They were in the hospital,waiting for Y/n's giving birth to her and his kids.He was waiting inpatiently,tapping his foot on the ground.Finally,the crying of triplets came to his ear.He entered the room and saw thre prettiest three babies in her arms.He took them and kissed all of their heads.
“They are so cute”He looked at her,his eyes tearing up.
“Yes,they are.”She was also crying now.He kissed her and looked at her eyes.
“I am so lucky and happy to have you in my life.You are so beautiful.We are going to be a big family.”He said kissing her again and over again...
~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks for the request again ❤️
I hope you enjoyed,bye!❤️
You know... Bix x Melshi is something I never considered before. 👀 Hahaha, and as a multi shipper I'll add it to my list of rare pairs, next to Bix x Brasso.
P.S.: Can you recommend me any other SW rare pairs to consider? 👀
hmm my ultimate one is Mon/Draven, I just love the potential of that dynamic. I've also seen the OT3 version of them with Merrick.
Then there's Saw/Luthen or Vel/Kleya, though I'm sure you've seen those before. I also saw Mon/Kleya, oh and Mon/Lyra once in a ship bingo and tbh, obsessed with that idea. Mon is just very shippable I think.
I'm very fond of Bodhi/Luke too, and some other RO/OT pairings could be Cass/Leia and Jyn/Leia. I know Han/Jyn and Luke/Jyn also exists, though I'm personally not a fan of either, but hey, you do you! Maybe Cassian/Han? I've also seen Cassian/Draven before.
There's also maybe Lyra/Saw (you could throw in Galen for an OT3). Jyn/Cinta... Kleya/Leia? Their names kinda make it weird but I kinda dig it.
And as a bonus, two absolute wild cards that I just came up with on the spot: Lyra/Draven and Brasso/Jyn.
Train Ride - Jake
Trying something out with him, lol
Tagging @concealeddarkness13 @ratracechronicler, @maple-writes, @pen-of-roses, @drabbleitout, @clocksandchaos, @knmartinshouldbewriting
----------------------------
Jake had gotten away with simple, short answers when asked questions. The guide or whatever-the-hell they were in the frilly, loud outfit seemed to want to talk to him, but a quick practiced stare with a straight face seemed to deter the conversation. The escort quickly moved on to the other two tributes, and Jake excused himself to get to the main car. Evidently there was some sort of mentor they were supposed to have as well, but the car was empty.
There was TV there among a spread of food and plush couches. He eyed the food and looked around for a moment, pulling a pair of goggles from his pocket that he’d managed to keep secret, snapping them on and adjusting the gears around the edges, tiny lenses inside flicking between a few runes before he found the right one.
“Ansuz,” he whispered. “I need you.”
The right rune flickered in his eyesight for a moment before a soft breath of air seemed to shiver down his neck. Good. He could call his avatars even here, away from home. He’d made the constructs a while ago, but they’d been good companions, the avatars inspired to and connected by the runes having the capacity to learn and grow alongside him.
“Is any of this food poisoned?”
“Seeing as how they want you to survive long enough to get to the games,” a voice cracked in his ear, “I doubt they would poison you this early. No doubt they save the poison for the arena.”
He grumbled and swiped a baked good. “If only you were this good at analysis when we opened the portals.”
“You didn’t summon me to give analysis.”
“And when I tried to summon you to help find the others after we were here?”
“You seemed to be doing fine on your own.”
Jake did his best not to roll his eyes, turning back to the tv. He heard someone coming and swiped the goggles off his head, sticking them back in his pocket before anyone could see. Went and sat down to watch the other ceremonies, eyes studying the crowd. His was District 4, it appeared, and they were playing highlights of the previous districts between updates on the districts down the line.
He let a small smile slip when they got to District 7, watching what appeared to be a scrawny-looking youth raise her hand and wave around sporadically. The bandana around her head was distracting, but not enough to obscure her features. He’d recognize her bounding step anywhere, and that mischievous grin was a dead giveaway.
Alright, so that was Lyra taken care of. She’d be a part of the games and he’d be able to find her easily enough, especially if they were on the same train. He waited through the rest of the names called, biting in to the muffin and playing with the wrapper. Picking small bits from the wrapper and toying with them as the ceremony completed there and they began replaying footage from older games.
He leaned back and watched these with a different eye, to get a sense of what he – of what they – were going into. Working out what angles he could use, what the winners had done, if there was any inconsistency in the reporting. Had the losers all actually died, or had some escaped? Who did they focus on more? And why?
Eventually they got back to the next ceremony. District 8 was up, and Jake quickly spotted a head of white hair among the older set of boys. He couldn’t be sure, the white-haired one doing his best to dodge the cameras or at least hide his face when they came around. But that looked like Hansel well enough.
And he wasn’t stepping forward.
Not that it mattered; he was here, and Jake could find a way to get to him easily enough. He was pretty sure.
But then a young boy, about Caine’s age, was called and Hansel quickly volunteered. Because of course he did. Jake immediately knew the reason as the boy gave him a tight hug and ran back in the crowd. Hansel was the last name called, so the boy was going to be safe for another year. But the look on the mage’s face was an intense one, for him. He was usually laid-back and chill, so any sort of serious look on his face was a change.
So. Now they were all a part of the games. He’d have to wait until they were on the train and see if he could get a word privately. Formulate some kind of plan.
In the meantime…he stood and gathered up a bit more food. Glanced over where the escort was still trying to talk to the other tributes. Sized them up as best he could. Went back to the tv to watch the rest of the highlights and the footage from the old games, but this time with a completely different eye.
Now it was time to watch everyone else he’d be interacting with. See if he could gauge this early on who would be friend, enemy, or neutral. Helpful. Prohibitive. He didn’t plan on sticking around long enough to actually engage them in the games, but it never hurt to know who you’d be standing with. Or against.
“you found her where?”
happy yips left the small alaskan malamute, the pup licking at percy’s hands. the male laughed in response, moving to cradle the dog. “in an alley down from my mom’s place. i couldn’t say no. just look at her.” he pleaded with his girlfriend.
laurel couldn’t help but crack a smile as percy laughed. “okay, okay, i don’t see why we can’t keep her.” she relented with a huff. “but i get to name her.” the girl held up her index finger, percy pouting at laurel’s words. “can i at least give suggestions?”
“of course you can perce, i just have the final say.” laurel wrapped her arms around her boyfriend’s waist, stepping closer to him. the husky pup looked up at laurel with wide, icy blue eyes. a few more yips left her, laurel chuckling as she rested her hand atop the dog’s light brown and white fur. “how about lyra?”
“lyre huh?” percy too looked down at the puppy. “lyra, here girl!” as if in response, lyra barked at percy. a laugh left the couple, percy gently setting the dog down on the polished wooden floor. “i can go out and grab some dog stuff.” he offered, laurel immediately shaking her head in response. “you just came back. i don’t mind heading out, i needed to pick up some groceries anyways.” laurel looked to percy, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek before heading to the front door.
“newspapers are in their usual spot just in case lyra has to go potty!” laurel called, slipping her shoes on with a hum. “okay! stay safe laurel!” percy smiled. once he heard the familiar jangle of laurel’s house keys, percy went to set out the newspaper for lyra.
villain with a crush
My name is Lyra and I never thought I would fall for someone so unexpected. His name is Orion and he is the ultimate villain in our town. Everyone fears him for his ruthless ways but little do they know, he has a soft spot for me.
It all started when I was walking home from work and found myself cornered by a group of thugs. I was about to scream for help when Orion appeared out of nowhere and took down the thugs effortlessly. I was in awe of his strength and bravery.
He walked me home and from that day on, he made it his mission to protect me. At first, I was scared of him, with his dark aura and intimidating presence. But as I spent more time with him, I began to see a different side of him. A side that was kind, caring and surprisingly romantic.
Despite his reputation, Orion was a hopeless romantic. He would leave me flowers, write me love letters and even cook me dinner. I couldn't believe that the feared villain was doing all these things for me.
But as our relationship grew, so did the danger. Orion's enemies started targeting me, thinking that I was his weakness. But little did they know, I was his strength. He would go to great lengths to protect me, even if it meant risking his own life.
However, the biggest threat to our relationship came when Orion's arch-nemesis, Marcus, realized his feelings for me. Jealousy consumed him and he started using all his resources to tear us apart. He spread rumors, threatened me and even harmed my loved ones.
But Orion never gave up on us. He stood by my side through it all, never once letting me doubt his love for me. I could see the pain in his eyes as he dealt with the consequences of his past actions, but he never once blamed me.
In the end, we conquered all the obstacles and proved that love knows no bounds. Orion's reputation may have been that of a villain, but to me, he was my hero. And as we stood hand in hand, with the world against us, I knew that our love was strong enough to last a lifetime.
They say that love can change even the most wicked of souls and in my case, it was true. Orion went from being the most feared villain to my loving and devoted partner. And I wouldn't want it any other way.
"Echoes of Destiny: Aetheria's Journey"
In the mystical land of Aetheria, Lyra, a young and skilled archer, embarked on an adventure to find her long-lost sister, Aria. The bond she shared with her family had always been her strength, but their separation had left her heartbroken. As Lyra traversed the enchanting forests and towering mountains of Aetheria, she encountered a mysterious man named Kael. He was captivated by her beauty and skill, and they soon formed an unbreakable bond. Together, they explored the depths of Aetheria's secrets, their romance blooming as they overcame challenges and faced perilous threats. However, their happiness was short-lived, for the cunning villain, Thalion, had been released from his prison. He sought to control Aetheria by harnessing the power of ancient relics and exploiting the people's fears. As Thalion's evil plans unfolded, Lyra and Kael knew they must join forces with their family and friends to save their beloved world. In this battle of good versus evil, Lyra found herself face to face with her long-lost sister, Aria, who had been under the influence of Thalion's dark magic. With love and determination, they fought together against Thalion, determined to protect Aetheria and restore harmony. As the golden sun began to set, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink, Lyra stood atop a hill overlooking the sprawling city of Aetheria. She had been searching for her long-lost sister, Aria, for what felt like an eternity. Little did she know that her journey was about to take a dramatic turn. Looking out at the city below, Lyra spotted a figure in the distance, a stranger with eyes as blue as the midday sky. Intrigued, she decided to approach him. As they drew closer, their eyes met and something inexplicable happened. A connection, a bond was formed, and it seemed as if they had known each other for lifetimes. His name was Kael, a skilled warrior with a heart full of kindness and courage. Together, Lyra and Kael set out on their quest to find Aria, delving into the depths of the mystical world of Aetheria. Along the way, they discovered ancient ruins, met magical creatures, and solved riddles that had confounded scholars for centuries. As they journeyed together, their love blossomed, and they became inseparable. However, their happiness was short-lived. The villainous Thalion, seeking control over Aetheria, had been released from his prison by a fearful citizen. Armed with ancient relics and the ability to manipulate people's fears, he began to wreak havoc on the once peaceful land. Determined to save their world, Lyra and Kael joined forces with a group of unlikely allies. Together, they embarked on a daring quest to confront Thalion, free Aria from his dark magic, and ultimately restore harmony to Aetheria. The stakes had never been higher, but Lyra knew that with Kael by her side, they would conquer any challenge that came their way. "Let's go," she whispered, her eyes filled with determination. "We have a world to save." Lyra sprinted through the vibrant forest, her heart pounding with excitement and anticipation. The air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers, and she could hear the soothing melody of birds singing in harmony. She had finally returned to Aetheria after years of being separated from her sister, Aria. As she wandered deeper into the forest, a tall figure emerged from the shadows. "Lyra?" The stranger called out, his voice tinged with recognition and surprise. "I am Kael, a traveler passing through these parts. I've heard tales of your search for your long-lost sister, Aria." Lyra paused, taken aback by the familiar name. "You know her?" she asked cautiously. "Yes," Kael replied, his eyes filled with sorrow. "We grew up together in the same village before I left to explore the world. She was always kind and brave, much like you." Lyra felt a pang of guilt for having forgotten about Aria all these years, but she couldn't let it dampen her spirits. "We must find her," she declared, determination shining in her eyes. "Together, we can reunite our family and bring happiness back to our lives." Kael nodded in agreement, his eyes sparkling with hope. As they ventured further into the enchanting forest, they couldn't help but feel the pull of destiny, drawing them closer to their goals and each other. Lyra stood at the edge of the dense forest, gazing into the distance as she recalled the tales her mother used to tell her. "In Aetheria," her mother would say, "magic flows like water and time is but an illusion." The moment she stepped foot in this mystical land, she knew it was true. As Lyra walked further into the forest, she stumbled upon a figure sitting by a fire. The stranger's eyes sparkled under the moonlight, and for a moment, she felt a connection as if they had met before. "I am Kael," he introduced himself, his voice warm like honey. "I've been searching for Aria too." "Aria?" Lyra's heart raced. "My long-lost sister? Is she here in Aetheria?" Kael nodded. "Yes. She is the last of our family, and she holds the key to our destiny." Together, they set off on a journey to find Aria, their hearts entwined with hope and purpose. They faced treacherous mountains, enchanted forests, and even the wrath of the sea. Along the way, they discovered that they were not alone in their quest. Other families had been searching for their lost ones, their lives intertwined with the fate of Aetheria. As they drew closer to Aria, Lyra felt a sense of destiny pulling her and Kael together. Their love blossomed amidst the challenges they faced, strengthening their resolve to save their family and their world. However, their journey was far from over, for an ancient villain had been set free. Thalion sought control over Aetheria using the very relics that held the power of destiny. And so, with love and duty intertwined, Lyra, Kael, and their newfound allies began their fight to save Aetheria from the clutches of Thalion and restore harmony to the land they had come to call home. As Lyra and Kael journeyed deeper into the heart of Aetheria, they encountered various challenges that tested their love and determination. They met magical creatures, some friendly and others dangerous, who either helped or hindered them in their quest for Aria. In one such encounter, they came across a wise old owl named Orin, who shared his wisdom and insight about the ancient relics Thalion sought to control. With newfound understanding, they continued their journey, overcoming obstacles that tested their strength, intelligence, and unity. As they neared Aria's hiding place, they found themselves confronted by Thalion himself. In a thrilling battle of wits and magic, Lyra and Kael fought valiantly to defend Aetheria from the clutches of the ancient villain. With their love for Aria and each other fueling their courage, they ultimately triumphed over Thalion's dark power. In the end, Lyra was reunited with her long-lost sister Aria, while Kael found a new family in Lyra's blood relatives. Their love grew stronger than ever, as did the bonds between their families and allies who had joined them on this incredible journey. Together, they celebrated the restoration of harmony to Aetheria, knowing that their bond would stand the test of time. In one such encounter, they came across a wise old owl named Orin, who shared his wisdom and insight about the ancient relics Thalion sought to control. "Orin," Lyra asked, "do you know where we can find Aria?" The owl replied, "Aria has been hiding in the enchanted forest, far away from Thalion's reach." With Orin's guidance, they ventured into the enchanted forest and encountered magical creatures. Some of them helped Lyra and Kael on their quest, while others hindered their progress. In one instance, they met a group of small, mischievous imps who tried to lead them astray. Kael, with a wry smile, said, "We won't let you trick us, little ones. We have a mission to fulfill." As they neared Aria's hiding place, they found themselves confronted by Thalion himself. In a thrilling battle of wits and magic, Lyra and Kael fought valiantly to defend Aetheria from the clutches of the ancient villain. With their love for Aria and each other fueling their courage, they ultimately triumphed over Thalion's dark power. Together, they celebrated the restoration of harmony to Aetheria, knowing that their bond would stand the test of time. In the enchanting land of Aetheria, Lyra searched for her long-lost sister Aria, unaware that Kael, a skilled warrior, was also on the same mission. As they both ventured through the mystical forests and treacherous mountains, their paths crossed at a quaint riverside camp. Lyra: (surprised) Are you looking for Aria too? I thought she ran away because of our family's feud with the Kael clan. Kael: Yes, we are related by blood, but we must put aside our differences for a greater purpose. The cunning villain Thalion is plotting to control Aetheria using ancient relics and people's fears. We must join forces to stop him and restore harmony. Lyra: (determined) I'm in. Let's find her and put an end to this threat. Together, they embarked on a thrilling journey, overcoming challenges that tested their love and determination. They encountered magical creatures, some friendly like the wise old owl Orin, who shared valuable information about Thalion's plans. As they neared Aria's hiding place, they found themselves confronted by Thalion himself. Thalion: (evil laughter) You think you can stop me? Your love and unity won't be enough to save Aetheria from my control. Kael: (fierce) Our love and unity are our strength! We will protect Aetheria, and you will never achieve your wicked goals. In a breathtaking battle of wits and magic, Lyra and Kael fought valiantly against Thalion's dark power. With the support of their families and allies who joined them on this journey, they ultimately triumphed over his evil plans. Their love grew stronger than ever, as did the bonds between their families and allies who had joined them on this incredible adventure. Together, they celebrated the restoration of harmony to Aetheria, knowing that their bond would stand the test of time. As the sun dipped below the horizon, Lyra finally caught sight of Kael in the distance, his silhouette bathed in the golden light of the setting sun. They locked eyes and rushed towards each other, the excitement of finally meeting after years apart palpable between them.``` As Lyra and Kael locked eyes, they were both filled with excitement at finally meeting after years apart. "Lyra!" Kael exclaimed, his voice trembling with emotion as he rushed towards her. "Kael!" she replied, her heart pounding in her chest. They embraced tightly, their love for each other palpable in the air. "I've been searching for you for so long," Lyra whispered softly against Kael's ear, tears welling up in her eyes. "And I never gave up hope that we would find each other again." Kael smiled, wiping away her tears with a gentle touch. "We are family now, Lyra. We will always be there for each other." His words filled her heart with warmth and love, and she knew they were right where they belonged. "I've been searching for Aria too," Kael confessed. "She means so much to us, and I couldn't bear the thought of not having her in our lives." Lyra nodded, understanding his feelings completely. "We must find her now, before Thalion can use the ancient relics to control people's fears and take over Aetheria." "Together, we will face any challenge that comes our way," Kael assured her, his hand gently grasping hers. With newfound determination in their hearts, they set off on a journey to find Aria, united by love and family bonds stronger than ever before. Startled, she blinked and realized it was Kael, someone she had only heard stories about but never seen in person. "Lyra," Kael called softly, his voice filled with warmth and familiarity that belied their first meeting. "I've been searching for Aria too." Lyra stared at him, her mind whirring to process the information. She opened her mouth to speak but hesitated, her thoughts still in a jumble. Kael took a step closer, his eyes full of understanding and reassurance. "We must find Aria together," he said determinedly. In the enchanting land of Aetheria, the sun set over the horizon as two figures emerged from the shadows. They were Lyra and Kael, siblings who had been searching for their long-lost sister, Aria. "Have you seen her anywhere?" Lyra asked Kael, her voice filled with hope and determination. Kael shook his head. "I've looked everywhere, but there's no sign of her." As they stood there, contemplating their next move, a soft whisper echoed through the air. "Don't give up, Lyra. Aria is here somewhere." Both siblings turned to see an ethereal figure standing before them. It was Orin, the wise old owl who had been guiding them in their quest. "Orin! Thank you for helping us," Lyra exclaimed, her eyes filled with gratitude. "I have been watching over you both since you first arrived in Aetheria," Orin replied. "Aria is near, but she's hidden away to keep herself safe from Thalion." Kael's face darkened at the mention of their nemesis. "We must find her before Thalion does. He will use her for his own twisted purposes." With renewed determination, Lyra and Kael set off on their journey, following Orin's guidance to locate Aria. As they ventured deeper into Aetheria, they encountered magical creatures, some of whom aided them in their quest while others tried to hinder their progress. Through these encounters, their bond only grew stronger. At last, Lyra and Kael reached Aria's hiding place, where she had been under Thalion's control all along. In that moment, they were faced with the task of rescuing their sister and defeating the villain who threatened to destroy Aetheria. Together, they fought against Thalion's dark magic, using their love for Aria and each other as a source of strength. Ultimately, they triumphed over Thalion, freeing Aria from his grasp and restoring harmony to Aetheria. The family reunited, and Lyra, Kael, and Aria's bonds only grew stronger amidst the joyous celebrations. And so, the siblings embarked on new adventures in the enchanting land of Aetheria, knowing that they could face any challenge together. Lyra and Kael, now a couple, stood at the edge of the dense forest, preparing themselves for the challenges that lay ahead. They knew Aria was somewhere within these woods, but they were unsure of her exact location. As they ventured deeper into the heart of Aetheria, they encountered various challenges that tested their love and determination. One day, as they rested near a babbling brook, Lyra spotted a small creature hiding in the bushes. "Kael," she whispered, pointing at the creature. "What do you think it is?" Kael squinted his eyes and approached cautiously. As he got closer, he recognized the magical creature as a pixie. "It's a pixie!" he exclaimed excitedly. The pixie seemed to be in distress, so they decided to help it. Lyra spoke softly to the pixie, using her gentle voice to calm it down. Kael, ever the problem-solver, searched for anything that might have hurt the pixie. Soon, he found a thorn from a nearby bush and carefully removed it from the pixie's wing. As they tended to the injured creature, they learned that the pixie had vital information about Aria's whereabouts. Grateful for their help, the pixie agreed to guide them. Together, Lyra, Kael, and the pixie continued their journey, overcoming obstacles that tested their strength, intelligence, and unity. As they neared Aria's hiding place, they found themselves confronted by Thalion himself. In a thrilling battle of wits and magic, Lyra and Kael fought valiantly to defend Aetheria from the clutches of the ancient villain. In the end, Lyra was reunited with her long-lost sister Aria, while Kael found a new family in Lyra's blood relatives. Their love grew stronger than ever, as did the bonds between their families and allies who had joined them on this incredible journey. Together, they celebrated the restoration of harmony to Aetheria, knowing that their bond would stand the test of time. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over Aetheria, Lyra and Kael found themselves face-to-face with Thalion. "You're not going to win," he sneered, his voice dripping with malice. But Lyra and Kael stood firm, their love for one another and their world unwavering. "We won't let you control Aetheria or its people," Lyra declared, her voice filled with conviction. "You may have power, but we have each other." Kael nodded solemnly, his eyes locked on the villain before him. "And together, there is nothing you can do to defeat us." In that moment, they knew their love would see them through any challenge. They fought valiantly, their hearts intertwined, and in the end, it was their unity that vanquished Thalion's dark power. As Aetheria rejoiced in the restoration of harmony, Lyra and Kael stood together, their love a beacon of light in the darkness that had once threatened to consume their world. The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the enchanted land of Aetheria as Lyra gazed at the setting sky. She had been searching for her long-lost sister Aria for what seemed like an eternity, and finally, she caught sight of her in the distance. Rushing towards her, Lyra couldn't help but feel a mixture of excitement and trepidation. Upon reaching Aria, she called out to her, "Aria! It's me, Lyra!" Aria turned around, her eyes widening in surprise as she recognized her sister. "Lyra?" She stammered, "I can't believe it's really you." The sisters embraced, their hearts swelling with joy and relief. Just as they were about to share the details of their journeys since they had last seen each other, a gust of wind carried a distant cry for help. Lyra and Aria exchanged glances before rushing in the direction of the sound. As they ventured further into the forest, they stumbled upon a wounded creature, its fur matted with dirt and sweat. Lyra knelt down, examining it carefully, "It's hurt," she whispered to Aria, "We should help." Aria nodded, her eyes filled with determination. Together, they tended to the injured animal, their kindness not going unnoticed by a nearby stranger who observed them from afar. The stranger approached, introducing himself as Kael, and shared that he too had been searching for Aria. He revealed that their efforts to help the creature were not in vain, as it was no ordinary being - a magical guardian of Aetheria's balance. Kael went on to explain that they were all brought together for a purpose: to stop the evil villain Thalion from controlling the ancient relics and manipulating people's fears. In this moment, Lyra and Kael felt their hearts beat in sync with newfound understanding. As they embarked on their quest, they faced challenges that tested their love and commitment. Together, they formed a bond stronger than any force Thalion could muster, bringing together families and allies in their fight to save Aetheria. And so, the tale of Lyra, Kael, Aria, and their adventures unfolded, forever changing the enchanting land of Aetheria and those who lived within it. The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over Aetheria's lush landscape. Lyra gazed at the breathtaking sight, longing for her sister Aria who had been lost to her for years. Unbeknownst to Lyra, Kael was also searching for Aria, guided by an unseen force that drew him to this magical land. As they each traversed the enchanting forests and majestic mountains of Aetheria, their paths inevitably crossed. "Aria! Is it you?" Lyra whispered, her heart pounding with a mix of hope and fear. Kael stepped forward, his eyes searching her face. "No, I am Kael. I've been looking for her too," he said softly. Lyra stared at him, taken aback by the stranger who claimed to be searching for Aria. "Why would you come all this way?" she asked cautiously. "I felt a connection to this place, and I sensed Aria's presence here. We must join forces if we're to find her," Kael declared, his determination evident in his voice. Together, they embarked on their journey, facing challenges that tested their courage and perseverance. As they navigated treacherous terrain and encountered magical creatures, Lyra and Kael found solace in each other's company, forming a deep bond that quickly blossomed into love. As they neared Aria's hiding place, they found themselves confronted by the cunning villain Thalion. "I have grown weary of waiting," he sneered. "It's time to take control of Aetheria using these ancient relics and people's fears." With newfound courage, Lyra and Kael fought valiantly against Thalion, their love for one another fueling their determination. As they triumphed over his dark power, their families and allies rejoiced with them, their bonds growing stronger as they celebrated the restored harmony in Aetheria. In the enchanting land of Aetheria, Lyra searches for her long-lost sister, Aria, while Kael, also searching for Aria, finds himself drawn to Lyra. Their paths cross, and their love blossoms as they journey together through various challenges in their quest for Aria. Together with their allies, they must confront the cunning villain Thalion, who seeks control over Aetheria using ancient relics and people's fears. The story unfolds with intrigue, adventure, romance, and family reunions, as Lyra, Kael, and their friends join forces to save their world and ultimately restore harmony. In the enchanting land of Aetheria, Lyra and Kael's journey led them through lush forests filled with magical creatures. Their determination to find Aria and defeat Thalion only grew stronger as they encountered each challenge. As their love blossomed, so did their resolve, and they became a symbol of hope for the people of Aetheria. In one such encounter, Lyra and Kael came across a wise old owl named Orion who shared his wisdom with them. "The heart is a powerful force," he advised. "It can guide you through even the darkest of times. Remember, love conquers all." With newfound inspiration, they continued their journey, their hearts ever more intertwined. Another challenge led them to a labyrinth of ancient ruins where they faced their fears and overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles. It was there that they discovered the power of unity, as they worked together with magical creatures they encountered in the labyrinth. Together, they forged alliances and friendships, strengthening their resolve to save Aetheria from Thalion's grasp. Finally, Lyra and Kael confronted Thalion in a thrilling showdown. As they fought, the power of their love grew stronger, illuminating the darkness that Thalion had cast upon Aetheria. With the support of their newfound allies and magical creatures, they defeated him once and for all. The people of Aetheria rejoiced, and families were reunited in the wake of their victory. In the end, Lyra and Kael's love stood as a testament to the power of unity and the strength of the human spirit. Their story echoed throughout Aetheria, reminding all that even in the darkest times, hope and love could prevail. Lyra stared at the map in her hands, her eyes filled with determination. "I must find my long-lost sister, Aria," she murmured. The forest around her was dense and mysterious, but she knew that somewhere within its depths lay the key to reuniting their family. As she trekked deeper into the woods, Lyra stumbled upon a stranger who had been searching for Aria as well. His name was Kael, and his eyes held a similar fire of longing and hope. "Hello," he greeted her cautiously. "I've heard tales of your sister. I'm searching for her too." Together, Lyra and Kael decided to join forces in their quest. Their bond grew stronger as they faced various challenges, from navigating treacherous mountain paths to deciphering ancient riddles. Through it all, their love for one another blossomed like the flowers that surrounded them. During their journey, they encountered magical creatures who would either aid or hinder their progress. He looked into her eyes, his own filled with sincerity. "Together, we can find her and bring our families back together." Lyra hesitated, uncertain of this stranger's intentions. But something in Kael's gaze told her he was telling the truth. She took a deep breath and nodded. "Alright, let's go find Aria." As they journeyed through the enchanting land of Aetheria, Lyra and Kael faced countless challenges, both physical and emotional. They fought fearsome creatures and navigated treacherous terrain, but their love for one another only grew stronger. The people they met along the way joined their cause, drawn to the pair's unwavering determination and the promise of a brighter future for Aetheria. Their search led them deep into the heart of Aetheria, where they discovered an ancient relic that held the key to Thalion's power. With time running out, Lyra and Kael knew they had to act. They faced Thalion in a fierce battle, their love for one another giving them the strength they needed to defeat the cunning villain. As the dust settled, Lyra and Kael stood victorious, their hearts overflowing with joy. They had saved Aetheria and reunited their families, and the once-broken bonds were stronger than ever. As they celebrated the restored harmony in Aetheria, they knew their love would last a lifetime, a testament to the power of unity and the beauty of the enchanting land they now called home. In the enchanting land of Aetheria, Lyra and Kael's love bloomed amidst challenges and dangers. As they faced various obstacles in their quest to find Aria and save their world from Thalion, their bond grew stronger. Together, they were an unstoppable force against the ancient villain. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the land of Aetheria, Lyra stood atop a hill, her eyes scanning the distance for any sign of her sister Aria. She had been searching for months, driven by a sense of duty and love that only a sister could understand. As she gazed upon the vast expanse before her, she couldn't help but feel a deep sense of longing and loneliness. Just then, a figure emerged from the shadows, his presence known only by the faint flicker of light reflecting off his armor. "Lyra?" he asked, his voice soft yet filled with determination. It was Kael, another soul searching for Aria. His presence brought both hope and uncertainty to Lyra's heart. "Kael?" she whispered, her voice barely audible. She couldn't believe her luck, but also questioned whether their paths crossing was merely a coincidence or part of some grand design. Together, they pledged to find Aria and restore their family. As they embarked on their journey, they encountered various challenges that tested their strength, wit, and resolve. Their bond grew stronger with each passing day, and soon, they found themselves inseparable, their love blossoming amidst the trials they faced together. As they ventured deeper into Aetheria's heart, they met magical creatures who either helped or hindered them on their quest for Aria. Their path was fraught with peril, but it only made their love and determination grow stronger. In a climactic confrontation, Lyra and Kael stood side by side against the ancient villain Thalion. With the power of their love and the strength they had gained through their journey, they defeated him, sealing his dark magic within an ancient relic. With Aria found and reunited with their families, Lyra and Kael's love continued to grow stronger, and together, they celebrated the restored harmony in Aetheria. Their adventure was far from over, but they knew that as long as they had each other, they could face any challenge that came their way. The sun began to set, casting a warm glow over Aetheria as Lyra and Kael stood atop a hill overlooking the enchanting land. They had come so far in their quest for Aria, and their love had grown stronger with each passing day. "We're almost there," Lyra whispered, her eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of her long-lost sister. "I can feel it." Kael squeezed her hand reassuringly. "Together, we can face anything," he said, his voice filled with conviction. As they continued their journey, they encountered a wise old owl who offered them guidance in the form of riddles. Through solving these puzzles, Lyra and Kael discovered the location of Aria, hidden deep within a labyrinth of ancient ruins. "Are you sure this is the right way?" Kael asked, his voice trembling with anticipation. Lyra nodded confidently. "The owl's wisdom led us here," she replied. "We must trust in its guidance." Upon reaching Aria, Lyra and Kael were met with joyous reunions as families and allies came together to celebrate their reunion. They shared stories of their adventures and the challenges they had faced, their bond growing even stronger. As the night sky filled with stars, Lyra and Kael found themselves alone, gazing into each other's eyes. Their love, once a spark, now burned brightly like the celestial bodies above them. "I want you to know," Kael whispered, his voice barely audible over the gentle rustling of leaves, "that I would do anything for you, Lyra." She smiled softly, her eyes filled with love and gratitude. "And I you, Kael," she replied. "Together, we can face any adversary." Little did they know that their reunion would be short-lived, as the ancient villain Thalion escaped his prison, determined to control Aetheria using people's fears and the power of the ancient relics. Lyra and Kael, united by love and a shared destiny, would soon find themselves at the heart of the battle to save their world and restore harmony once again. Lyra glanced around nervously, her heart pounding in her chest. The ancient ruins of Aetheria's capital lay before her, shrouded in mystery and danger. She knew she was close to finding her sister, but the stakes had never been higher. As she ventured deeper into the ruins, Lyra stumbled upon a man standing atop a crumbled statue. His eyes met hers, and an electric current seemed to pass between them. He introduced himself as Kael, another searcher of Aria. "I've been looking for her too," he said, his voice tinged with urgency. Together, Lyra and Kael began their journey, their steps echoing through the hollow halls of the capital. As they traveled, they faced various challenges - treacherous terrain, magical beasts, and enchanted traps that tested their wits and bravery. But with each obstacle overcome, their bond grew stronger. "We must find Aria before Thalion does," Lyra declared, her determination unwavering. Kael nodded in agreement, his gaze steady. "We'll need the help of our families and allies if we hope to save Aetheria from this ancient villain." And so, they continued their quest, their love blossoming amidst the trials they faced. As they journeyed deeper into the heart of Aetheria, they encountered magical creatures who either helped or hindered them in their pursuit for Aria. In a thrilling confrontation with Thalion, Lyra and Kael fought valiantly to defend Aetheria from the ancient villain, ultimately defeating him with the power of their love for one another. Reunited with their families, Lyra and Kael celebrated the restored harmony in Aetheria. Their bonds grew stronger, forged through adversity and fueled by love. And so, the adventure continued - a testament to the indomitable spirit of family and the unyielding power of love. Lyra stood atop a hill, gazing out over the vast landscape of Aetheria. The wind whispered through her hair as she searched for any sign of her long-lost sister, Aria. In the distance, she spotted a figure approaching. As he drew closer, she realized it was Kael, another adventurer searching for his missing sibling. "Hello," said Lyra cautiously, her heart pounding with both excitement and trepidation. "I'm looking for my sister, Aria." Kael nodded, understanding the sentiment all too well. "I'm doing the same. Perhaps we could join forces?" Lyra hesitated but eventually agreed. Together, they set off on a journey filled with trials and challenges. As they ventured deeper into Aetheria, their bond grew stronger, as did their love for one another. "We must be cautious," Kael whispered as they navigated a treacherous mountain pass. "Thalion's influence has spread far and wide." "I won't let him win," Lyra vowed, her determination hardening like steel. As their love blossomed, so too did their resolve. They met magical creatures who either helped or hindered them in their quest for Aria. Eventually, they found themselves in a thrilling confrontation with Thalion himself. "You've made quite the mess of things, haven't you, Thalion?" Lyra taunted, standing bravely beside Kael. The ancient villain sneered, "I have merely revealed the chaos that lies within all of you." But it was their love for one another that ultimately defeated him. With newfound strength and unity, Lyra and Kael vanquished Thalion, restoring harmony to Aetheria. Their families were reunited, and their bonds grew even stronger as they celebrated the return of peace to their beloved land. Lyra paced nervously in her small, dimly lit room. The weight of her mission weighed heavily on her shoulders. She had heard whispers of her sister Aria, believed to be lost in the enchanting land of Aetheria. Determined to find her, she embarked on a perilous journey. One day, while traversing through a dense forest, Lyra encountered a mysterious stranger who shared her quest for Aria. His name was Kael, and he too had been searching for his long-lost sister. Their paths intertwined, and an undeniable connection sparked between them. As they journeyed together, the bond of friendship blossomed into love. However, their happiness was short-lived. The cunning villain Thalion had escaped his prison and sought control over Aetheria using ancient relics and people's fears. Lyra and Kael, along with their newfound allies, realized they must join forces to save their world from the clutches of this ancient foe. Throughout their adventure, Lyra and Kael faced numerous challenges that tested their love and determination. They encountered magical creatures who either helped or hindered them in their quest for Aria. As they journeyed deeper into the heart of Aetheria, their love for one another only grew stronger. In a thrilling confrontation with Thalion, Lyra and Kael fought valiantly to defend Aetheria from the ancient villain. With the power of their love for each other, they ultimately defeated him, restoring harmony to their world. They were reunited with their families, and their bonds grew even stronger as they celebrated the restored peace in Aetheria. And so, Lyra and Kael's love story became a beacon of hope in Aetheria, proving that even in the face of darkness, love could conquer all. In the enchanting land of Aetheria, Lyra and Kael found themselves faced with an unexpected challenge. The villain Thalion, long thought vanquished, had escaped his prison and was bent on controlling Aetheria using ancient relics and manipulating people's fears. Lyra and Kael, united by their love for one another and their shared quest to find Lyra's long-lost sister Aria, vowed to put an end to Thalion's evil schemes. As they journeyed deeper into the heart of Aetheria, they encountered various challenges that tested their love and determination. They met magical creatures, some who offered assistance, while others stood in their way. In one such encounter, Lyra and Kael found themselves facing a pack of fearsome wolves guarding a mysterious cave. Lyra: "Kael, do you think we can reason with them? Maybe we can find another way through the forest?" Kael: "Perhaps, but we must try to communicate first. After all, they may be as lost and frightened as we are." To their surprise, the wolves listened attentively as Kael spoke of the danger that Thalion posed to Aetheria and its inhabitants. Moved by his words, the wolves agreed to help Lyra and Kael find a safe passage through the forest. Kael: "See? Sometimes even the most fearsome creatures can be reasoned with." Lyra: "True, but we must always remember that there's more to others than meets the eye." Together with their new allies, Lyra and Kael continued their journey. They faced many trials, but their love for one another grew stronger with each challenge they overcame. Finally, they confronted Thalion in a thrilling battle. Lyra: "We've come too far to let you ruin everything, Thalion!" Thalion: "Ah, Lyra and Kael, I should have known you'd interfere. You won't stand a chance against me." Kael: "That may be true, but we have each other, and that's all we need." With the power of their love for one another, Lyra and Kael defeated Thalion and sealed him away once more. They were reunited with their families, celebrating the restored harmony in Aetheria. As the sun set over the horizon, they knew their adventure was far from over, but their hearts were filled with love and hope for the future of Aetheria. In the enchanting land of Aetheria, Lyra had embarked on a journey to find her long-lost sister Aria. With each step taken, she felt the weight of responsibility for the fate of their family and their magical world. The winds whispered secrets, the trees offered guidance, and the rivers carried tales of ancient wisdom. Late one evening, Lyra stumbled upon a mysterious figure named Kael, who was also searching for Aria. Their eyes met, and in that moment, they knew they were destined to be together. United by their shared quest, they formed an unbreakable bond as they ventured deeper into the heart of Aetheria. "Kael, I promise we will find Aria," Lyra whispered, her voice filled with determination. "And together, we'll bring peace back to our world." As they journeyed further, they encountered magical creatures that either aided or hindered their progress. In the depths of an ancient forest, they stumbled upon a hidden village where Aria had been taken captive. Their joy was short-lived, however, as they discovered Thalion, a cunning villain who sought control over Aetheria using ancient relics and people's fears. "Thalion, you can't win!" Lyra cried out, her voice echoing through the village square. "We're stronger together than apart." The battle was fierce, with Thalion summoning his dark magic and unleashing monstrous creatures to stand against them. But in their love for one another, Lyra and Kael found a strength they never knew they possessed. Together, they defeated Thalion, shattering the darkness that had enveloped Aetheria. As families were reunited and allies celebrated their victory, Lyra and Kael vowed to protect Aetheria together. Their love would be a beacon of hope in the enchanting land, ensuring that harmony and peace reigned forevermore. In the mystical land of Aetheria, Lyra's search for her long-lost sister, Aria, led her through enchanted forests and across majestic mountains. One day, she encountered Kael, another traveler who had also been searching for Aria. Their paths aligned by fate, they decided to join forces, sharing their stories and forming a deep bond as they journeyed together. ``` Lyra: "Kael, do you have any idea where Aria might be?" Kael: "I've heard whispers of her in the heart of the Enchanted Forest, but no one has seen her for years." As they ventured deeper into the forest, they overcame numerous obstacles and encountered magical creatures that tested their courage and determination. Some offered aid, while others stood as formidable foes. Through it all, their love for each other blossomed, strengthening them against adversity. ``` Lyra: "Kael, I can't believe how far we've come. Our love has brought us this far." Kael: "Together, we are unstoppable. Let's continue our journey to reunite our families and save Aetheria." Finally, they reached the ancient villain Thalion, who had been released from his prison by the mysterious relics that controlled people's fears. Determined to conquer Aetheria, he sought power over its inhabitants. With their love as their guiding force, Lyra and Kael fought valiantly against Thalion in a thrilling battle. ``` Thalion: "You may have the power of love, but I possess the strength of fear!" Lyra: "Our love is far stronger than any force you could conjure." Kael: "Together, we will defeat you and restore harmony to Aetheria." After a fierce confrontation, Lyra and Kael emerged victorious. Their love had vanquished Thalion, and in the aftermath of their triumph, they were reunited with their families. Together, they celebrated the restored harmony across Aetheria. As they journeyed deeper into Aetheria, Lyra and Kael found themselves facing various challenges that tested their love and determination. They encountered magical creatures, some who offered assistance and others who posed obstacles in their path. In one such encounter, they met a wise old owl named Ollis, who provided them with valuable information about Thalion's lair. "Ollis," Lyra addressed the ancient owl, "we must find Aria and stop Thalion from taking control of Aetheria. Can you help us?" "I can give you a clue about Thalion's hideout," Ollis replied, his eyes twinkling with wisdom. "At the heart of the enchanted forest lies an ancient tree known as the Whispering Willow. It holds the key to finding him." With newfound hope, Lyra and Kael set off towards the Whispering Willow. Along the way, they encountered a fearsome griffin, whose sharp claws threatened their every step. However, using their combined skills and determination, they managed to outsmart the creature and continued their journey. As they approached the Whispering Willow, the air grew thick with anticipation. Kael climbed the ancient tree, plucking a golden leaf that shimmered in his hand. The leaf revealed Thalion's lair, located deep within a hidden cavern. With this information, Lyra and Kael knew their time to confront Thalion was near. Inside the cavern, they faced off against Thalion and his minions. A fierce battle ensued, with both sides employing powerful spells and unmatched courage. Just as Thalion seemed to gain the upper hand, Lyra and Kael remembered the power of their love for one another. They embraced, channeling their affection into a single, blindingly bright ray of light that vanquished Thalion once and for all. With Thalion defeated, harmony was restored to Aetheria. The people rejoiced as families were reunited, celebrating the love and determination of Lyra and Kael. And so, in the enchanting land of Aetheria, two souls found their destiny, overcoming great odds to save their world and forging a bond that would last an eternity. In the heart of the cavern, Lyra, Kael, and Aria stood ready to face their greatest challenge yet. The air was thick with anticipation as they prepared for the battle against Thalion. "Are you sure about this?" Aria asked, her voice trembling. "We could still turn back." Lyra smiled reassuringly at her sister. "No, we've come too far to give up now. We have each other and our love for Aetheria. That's all we need." With that, they charged into the darkness, their hearts pounding with determination. As they reached Thalion's lair, a fierce battle ensued. The siblings fought alongside Kael, their connection to one another growing stronger with every swing of their weapons. In the end, it was their love for each other that defeated Thalion. His once-impenetrable defenses crumbled under the weight of their combined emotions. As they stood victorious over the fallen villain, the siblings embraced, tears of joy streaming down their faces. "We did it," Aria whispered, her voice barely audible above the sounds of their allies cheering and celebrating in the distance. Lyra nodded, her eyes shining with pride. "We did. Together." And so, Lyra, Kael, Aria, and their families returned to the village, where they were greeted with cheers and laughter. The harmony of Aetheria had been restored, and the bonds between its people were stronger than ever. In the end, it was love that saved Aetheria, a testament to the power of unity and family.
i want to ramble about characters so it is now kris time
under a cut because this got about 10x longer than i expected
kris here is daphnes older sister and daphne is my johto protag oc, though kris is still important. it's also important that they're both originally from sootopolis in hoenn and wallace's nieces.
so it took a while for beverly (and ex husband) to realize that kris had psychic powers similar to her little siblings. daphne and [redacted] both had very outward powers while kris' is very inwards.
whenever she rambled about people with strange names they chalked it up to imaginary friends. it was only once they realized 2 outta 3 had powers that they looked into kris and realized she did not have a small army of imaginary friends.
so, tangent. in my verse, the dream world is sort of the distortion world. its a part of the distortion world that human minds can reach and navigate, though not consciously. it's outside of normal space and time so those who can naturally reach it tend to get prophetic visions.
so kris' power is that she can see the past, and occasionally the future, in her dreams. she has no control over what she sees though she tries sooo hard to. the future flashes are also just that. flashes. she sees a flash of a scene and knows x will be at y at exactly 2 47pm, sunday march 30th 2028. and thats it. why are they there? how did they get there? why that spot? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
anyways this gave kris a strong interest in history for obvious reasons. related to the sootopolis thing, she was close with her uncle wallace as he was very well versed in history and myths and was always happy to tell them to her. little kris wanted nothing more than to join her uncle as a guardian of the cave of origin
and then her family moved to johto.
kris was Not Happy. at all. she was 10 and had a whole life in hoenn. friends, a goal, she was even planning on going on a pokemon journey soon. for reasons related to [redacted], beverly was Very Opposed to the idea of kris staying in hoenn while beverly and daphne left for johto. she forced an angy kris to move there with them.
as a parting gift, wallace gave her a feebas egg (which got the attention of recently moved in to mew bark professor elm) and when it hatched, the second feebas was considered old enough to battle kris yeeted herself out of new bark town to tour johto.
(kris and beverly had argued basically the entire time in between. beverly was against her going out while kris had a insatiable curiosity. kris didn't give beverly any notice before she left. just went yea im going on a journey now and walked out the door)
johto was not hoenn but it was nice. in azalea town, kris met ethan (who's grandparents ran a daycare near goldenrod) and the two quickly bonded. they both had 'useless' starters (feebas and abra) and met after being made fun of by the same chump.
neither really had any goal. they wanted to travel and experience johto. and they did! they went all over johto and kanto together. they even managed to find and revive matching fossil pairs.
when they were 13, they met lyra, a rather suspicious but sweet girl who was into contests. since lyra had more of a concrete goal than them, they let her take the lead. after finding out that kris was from hoenn and had multiple famous coordinators in her family, they hopped on a boat to a new region! kris was delighted to finally have her hoenn journey! especially with such good friends!
by the time they returned home, they were 15ish. ethan had kept in touch with his grandparents, kris.... not so much. there was some yelling when she got home. especially about going to a different region. beverly hadnt even known about that until wallace called her like 'kris is in my house and eating all my food.' it took a few months for them to get into a good spot because both are very stubborn women. but they did, eventually, sort of make up.
but kris came out of her journey with 2 goals. 1, hone her powers so she can purposefully visit specific pts in time in her dreams and 2, find suicune.
the first was a natural step up from just enjoying her powers. she knew from studying with morty that it would be difficult if not impossible, but she could try. specifically, she wanted to learn how to bring back old, extinct evolutions. she had a stantler and she wanted to evolve it into a wyrdeer.
the second was because of a chance encounter. while in kanto, she ran into the legendary beast suicune. it let her get close and even pet its mane before seemingly realizing something and running away. eusine ran in not too long after and the two became rivals in searching for the beast.
to help with those goals, she interned under professor elm. her interest was history and extinct pokemon evolutions, but it was a good opportunity.
it did, eventually, help her get a position under professor rowan, the expert in pokemon evolution. she studied under him for several years (including during the whole team galactic fiasco lol) before branching off into her own thing.
her, ethan and lyra are a Unit (romantically? platonically? qpr? who knows! they think its funny to be so mysterious) so when Lyra managed to get a spot in the hoenn contest circuit the other 2 went with.
that was fine with kris. now she could fulfill her childhood goal and study under her uncle. having access to ancient sootopolitan texts was also a boon to honing her powers (the suicune thing had been resolved by then. celebi time travel stuff).
aaand thats about it! ^.^ yay kris!
A Court of Twisted Wisdom
Summary: See ACOTW Masterlist
Chapter XI: Say Your Prayers
Ayla
I sighed as I slipped out of my leathers and into the steaming tub, sinking down and tipping my head back to soak my golden-brown locks, washing myself quickly before just sitting to soak. Finally I let myself raise the hand mirror to reflect the one standing behind me.
On the dead center point of my spine rested the Night Court's symbol, it's circumference about five inches. Two Illyrian swords pierced through the symbol in an X, the pommels facing upwards. The only thing that strayed from the typical Illyrian blades was the ornamental carvings running in a line down the hilt. A stag that cradled the sun in it’s antlers, an eight point star, and the Valkyrie ribbon. The first two signs were puzzling, but I'd have time to study them later.
I looked to the rest of the tattoo. Connected to the top and bottom of the mountains were two lines of flame, one heading north to stop at my nape while the other dove south, stopping at my tailbone. Two identical flowers I'd never seen before branched off the court's mountains, the right flower tipped upwards and the left tipped down as if their petals were reaching for two other signs that had yet to appear. Those petals seemed to burn as well.
There was a shift in the design and I gasped. I blinked once and it was back to black ink. Okay, wow. I'm exhausted and having hallucinations about my tattoo glowing silver. Wow. I shoved the thought away, instead choosing to think about the past, present, and future.
Everything so far had led up to the Rite. I had been looking forward to this since the moment Nyx helped me through the homemade Qualifier he passed. Granted that was nearly eleven years ago and it had taken me twice as long to complete it that day, but it was one of our special moments and one that had given me a long-term goal.
So what comes next?
As potential heirs, Nyx and Roxanna had more to train for, but me? Some would call it a blessing to not have the workload the siblings were in the running to inherit but what comes next for me? The answer was honestly like a slap to the face. I could practically hear Lyra saying it now.
Um, hello? Are you forgetting about your brand new powers, idiot?
Lyra. I stared down at my right wrist, fingering the charm on the bracelet enchanted not to ruin by water or wear. I felt the floodgates open, my shoulders shaking more and more with each sob. Sometime later the cracked door slowly swung in. "Ayla."
"Did anyone l-look for her?"
I began to shiver and my mother offered me a towel. "Nyx flew out there twice. So did your father. Ayla, the mountain isn't exactly small."
"We started training together here. We played and shared books."
She stood on the other side of the door as I dressed in the common loose clothing of the Night Court. I opened the door and she came into the bedroom, sitting me down and brushing my hair, pausing only for a second when she spotted the tattoo through my shirt. Aunt Elain and me. We were likely the only people she'd been this gentle with, though even their relationship had hardened a bit from that.
I hung my head, fingering the high-cut maroon fabric at my midriff. "I didn't even say the death prayer for her. We were there and then she was falling and then—I should have managed it. Even in the chaos I should have given her that much."
My mother sighed, taking my hair up into a braid, starting near the roots. "Grief is a delicate thing. Yet if not handled properly it can become something like a beast. Grieve her, Ayla. Say what prayers you need to now. But grieve and move on. If you let it linger—if you spend all your time thinking about the should-haves and could-haves it will consume you. I was just a bit younger than you when my father died."
"In Hybern's war?" My family didn't like talking about the gore of those years.
"I spent years hating my father for not fighting, yet he sailed into battle—fae battle—on a ship named for me. My grief was hidden in the guise of a stone heart. Even your father... The mystery of being Made helped move the hatred along and I accepted it. Show them a stone heart so my family could never understand all of the little triggers their daily activities would draw up. All of those triggers led back to him." She tied off my braid with another heavy sigh. "Don't let it consume you, Ayla. Grieve and let go." She squeezed my shoulders. "You should get some rest."
I nodded, standing and moving towards the bed. Without much more prompting than darkness and a soft pillow I found myself slipping away.
~~~~~
Uncle Rhys was the only person I had trusted with my nightmares and only because I needed to explain how I discovered I was daemati. Talking about them didn't mean they could be helped any. I woke too suddenly, panicked and shaking worse than ever. Telling him had done nothing for me. The guilt and self-hatred had only come back tenfold. I fell as I scrambled from under the twisted sheets, groaning as my head hit hardwood. Still it only took a second for me to stand, throwing myself through my balcony doors, gripping the frigid railing like a lifeline. The abnormally cold night air was instantly numbing but I didn't try to warm myself.
I sank down, sobbing as the images true and altered by my subconscious began to play on a loop in my mind. I heard the boom of flapping wings above me and flinched, terror seeping into me. I snapped my wings around me, cocooning myself as the Illyrian landed. I couldn't interpret whatever they were saying as a wind rose up around us. Fingertips brushed my wings and I screamed.
I needed to get away from here. I needed something to take me somewhere no one could trace me to. I just need a few days of silence. Of nothing. Something was curling around me. A chilled caress that lit the night sky. It felt kind. Something foreign and mysterious yet beautiful. And it was sweeping me away, this light—these flames—enveloping me as I saw Azriel's shadows do to him so many times.
But I was no shadowsinger or lightsinger, if those ever existed, and this was most definitely not winnowing. I was tumbling through nothing, falling for what could have been seconds or an eternity before the cradle of iced fire released me, laying me down on—
On what?

A question
I think this one is it.
Thank you Lyra. Thank you for everything you have done for me.
Thank you for the answered prayer.
Thank you for ‘stealing’ that other waitress spot.
Thank you for being the first stranger to ever buy me a drink.
Thank you for the dare, wish you could have seen me with those pink hairs.
Thank you for the hug, muted embrace, that I did not know to reciprocate.
Thank you for showing me how depressed I was.
Thank you for showing me the kindness in selfishness.
Thank you for that beautiful drawing, and everything that accompanied it. When I saw it, I had to look away, I thought my heart was gonna burst. I never thought my words could be turned into something so beautiful.
Thank you for this like, back when likes were our language, those early tentative dares.
Thank you for telling me your real name, and tragedy.
Thank you for treating me my age, even when I don’t act it; Thank you for speaking the truth I have waited for years for someone to grasp.
Thank you for sharing your burden, your loneliness; for mixing it with mine.
Thank you for all the gorgeous photos, each a different angle, each more piercing and touching than the last.
Thank you for loving me unconditionally, with no regard to finance (’Love is Free!’), living situation, life experience, or anything else.
Thank you for listening to my crazy metaphysical ranting and never calling me crazy or annoying for it. I hope they will prove of use to you; Thank you for bailing out the darkness with me. Thank you for all the times you came back. Thank you for all the places you followed me to. Thank you for this. She suffered too. I didn’t understand back then. I promise to create more carefully in the future. I hope she won’t mind me posting this here.
Thank you for not leaving me alone among mourners. I still do not quite understand, how my heart can forget so much. One day I will remember. One day there will be no need to remember. I’ll make sure of it.
Thank you for reminding me of what Life feels like thank you for giving me back my smile.
Thank you for opening me up; in every ways; Thank you for making me feel desirable.
Thank you for putting yourself on the line, every line, naked. (How can a person feel so sweet?) (There is a distant peace in you Lyra, it finds its way in every place. Even those we least expect; It’s so beautiful and relaxing, you just want to sink into it. into... now it is my turn to show caution.) (Ps: And in case you wonder, no I didn’t keep it.)
Thank you for  this , and this, and this , and this , and this , and definitely this , and this one (I still have the original on file! ‘Darkness, but not cold Darkness’ ) and all the other ones, and most of all this one.
Thank you for that beautiful song! I have it on file and it will haunt me, for many, many nights to come. (I once read: The opposite of a haunting is something very lonely.)
Thank you for not leaving, until I knew, my soul could not forget you. You did not love me split, you loved me whole, from every side.
