2024
What do I expect of this year? What do I want to write?
For starters, I decided to give up on two WIPs that I will likely not write, at least not soon. The Ribbon was supposed to be a companion piece to Ananke (both could be around 40k stories, so together they'd make the length of a whole novel), but since Ananke has been shortened, The Ribbon is not necessary. And on its own it doesn't have enough pull for me to finish it.
Untitled Sentira project is... well, the name itself is enough to tell you my feelings about it. I still think the worldbuilding for this story, or rather the one that existed before, is spectacular. I'm not giving up on the Sentira world, but maybe I'll do something completely different with it? The novel idea, the characters I tried to design for it, the plot -- they just didn't really click, so. This particular story will not happen, at least not in the form of a novel.
Hmm... I should update my pinned post... Later.
Now, what will I write?
I'm changing the ending of Ananke. The second half, ten chapters, require a lot of changes and I want to do it, like, now. First half of January, then mabe final re-read right away, or maybe some pro editor? IDEK. Or a re-read in February. And then I want to send it to three sci-fi magazines and see if they bite.
I started to edit The Specters, but now that I'm back at work I don't think I'll be able to work on two things simultanously, so I'm putting it on the backburner until I'm done with Ananke, and then I'll probably continue second draft until the end of February.
I've been having feels about Crystal Spring Valley lately -- it means I miss Priya and Tenney and the gang. I might take March and April to look at this story and maybe get through that Turning Point finally. I don't hope to finish it, but, as usual, make as much progress as I can.
May could be a good moment to work on the spreadsheet and maybe even pre-draft of The Duke and the B Brothers -- so that I could tackle the first draft during NaNoWriMo. Ha! Yes.
Then I should return to Black Wings and its second draft for June and July (or perhaps even longer), and that would more-or-less conclude my current WIPs.
August, September and October would remain "to be decided". I also have Mars Idea in very early stages of development, so I might give it a month here or there. And then do some more work on either on the most advanced WIPs, meaning Crystal Spring, Specters or Black Wings.
November would be the first draft of The Duke, of course, and then December... Maybe rest after NaNo, lol, or finish The Duke, because 50k will likely not be enough.
So that's that. That's the plan. :)

I suppose Ma'als deal with simping on Lex Luthor is partially from "I can fix him."?
no, he just thinks Lex is hot lol
Ma'al isn't seeking commitment or any real deal relationship that requires some sort of growth on either end, he just wants to have fun. He's the kind of person who would make up superficial reasons as to why someone he's attracted to would have good chemistry with him.

It shouldn't be that serious but I haaate people summarizing Simon and his struggles in Fionna and Cake as the symptoms of one mental illness or another. Like, his struggle with being content now that he's Simon again echo depression and he very well may have it. The way I've seen some people examine his character and conflict through a pathological lens, though, just picks out what words and actions they can diagnose as some documented and studied condition. They divorce his character and conflict from his setting, his time as the Ice King, and how he fits in the extended narrative of Adventure Time.
Simon is a pre-mushroom bomb era human in a post-mushroom bomb world. The people he knew, the surroundings he's come to understand, and the life trajectory he had going are all long gone. He's come to in a new society where things function in much more fantastical, irrational, and advanced ways. He's been a part of this society- even shaping it- as the Ice King, and now he must continue playing into the happenings of Ooo as Simon Petrikov. The new civilizations are alien, the new Earth functions by new social and natural laws, and he has the remains of new life that disgusts, horrifies, and humiliates him.
Simon spent almost a thousand years as a man stripped of his former values, dignity, and cognisance. As the Ice King, he lost his ability to control himself, and inflicted what would accumulate to be significant harm unto others. He learned how to get along with others by the end of his time as the Ice King, but those years were a blip in the span of a near millennium, and the degree of self-control he learned was basic decency. Simon spent his life before the mushroom bomb developing to be a composed and academic man, and endured having his antecedent personal growth and his own autonomy regarding his identity nullified by the ice crown.
Adventure time is a fantasy show that explores the consequences of the endless possibilities inherent to a fantastical setting. Powerful magic and magical existences destroy and ruin lives, abundances of mystical organisms amount to exhausting effort to defend oneself from danger, and the lack of predictability of what the world has to offer someone next spells out a compromised sense of security and stability.
Simon/the Ice King's story is one example of the show's exploration of the undesirable side of fantasy, and one story that's been built on for over eight years now. It's a story with circumstances unique to the show, with numerous writers informing its contents, with some parts planned and some spontaneous. It's a charged story, and it's narratively reductive to effectively whittle Simon's character and conflict as the showing of a real world mental illness

heres the fixed DCA from finders keepers. Moon's hat was beyond fixing due to how trashed it was, so I think Y/N got creative when trying to make a new one. It's a hood that has Moon's hat pattern on one side and red with yellow stripes on the other.
Sun doesn't wear the hood cuz of his rays tho
Bonus for Y/N after fixing the DCA (this is also me after finishing this)

!! tell us about the Mars idea? It's a new one, right? What plot bunny is there?
Aaaand here's the third ask. :) Tagging @echo-bleu and @hithelleth as well.
Thank you all for asking, by the way. It allows me to tell you *everything* I have for this story so far, lol.
Since you asked about plot bunny, this is my tagline:
A girl with a dark past joins the revolution and becomes the most powerful entity in the universe.
And this is my short version of the plot:
A young woman takes her brother’s place to help him but ends up mixed with a group of revolutionists. Against her will, she becomes a part of a dangerous scientific experiment, that changes her forever. With new skills and abilities, she has to confront those in charge. She is instructed on her actions by the revolutionists but makes a different choice instead. Now, with a target on her back from the revolutionists and the people in charge, she has to hide, as new skills make everyday existence difficult. She only has her brother and a few of his friends to help her, but unexpectedly, a faction of the revolutionists splits and agrees to support her instead. In the end, she has all the power – her decisions will shape the world from then on out.
In a previous post I talked a little about the brother, Damis, but here it's quite clear that the actual main character is his sister, Charlie Graham. Well, that's how I roll. The character that's my main focus and most interesting to me, personally, usually becomes the side-kick. I don't know why...
I hope all those bits made you at least a little bit curious. ;)

Quick messy comic based on this lil fake myth I made a bit ago and the fact that I've been blasting Bruno Mars for the past couple of days.
The myth post: here!
Also!! New little tidbit for the myth I made. I have now decided that the first wolf that Apollo asks to howl for his sister was Kitrinomavri!!! The same wolf that continues to be his companion to this day. This is why both Apollo and Artemis love Kitri so much, bc she kept them connected after Apollo's exile pulled them apart.
