Reminder & Spoiler to BG3 fans who haven't romanced Gale in any of your playthroughs.
GALE DIDNT KNOW IT WAS THE KARSITE WEAVE
Him being a god was not the initial thought process. Him pursuing the weave against Mystra's wishes was like him trying to buy a rare stone for a proposal ring and getting a uranium instead of a diamond.
Was he an idiot, who thought he knew better about retrieving weave? Yes.
Malicious and narcissistic? No. not really
People pleaser tendencies gone extreme? definitely
Him wanting to be a god by the end is him lashing out because he realizes his worth and it dawns on him Mystra abandoned him. It is also a desperate attempt to find a cure to his orb because he defied Mystra after act 2 (which is also under your persuasion) when he was already in hot water with her. He is under the impression that any civility or chances he has for Mystra's forgiveness is gone and his orb is still very much active.
Gale is just very human who doesn't really understand what cards he has and what he could play in a game with gods
Is he being stupid again by wanting to pursue godhood? Yes
Is he lashing out? Probably for some but for me definitely
Is he tired of being gods' plaything/pawn in their plans? Absolutely
Can you blame him after everything you see in act 1 & 2 with Ketheric, Shadowheart and even Lae'zel. The evil gods prey on you and the so called good ones abandon you.

when people ask "why is Mystra bland and Shar and Vlaakith are MASSIVE AND SLAYING HARD?" i want to screem
Ugh if i see that post criticizing Mystra for looking average compared to Shar or vlaakith reblogged one more time Im gonna scream fchgcg do you guys not understand the difference ?
I didn't expect to wake up today and be a Mystra defense attorney but yall need your perspective to be ripped wide open
disclaimer: this only goes as deep as the game lore the actual lore the game is based on is much more expansive and goes into detail about everything im about to quickly explain so i recommend reading it.
So first off all lets redefine your understanding of what Mystra is ,
She is magic, she is the weave, the very fabric of the weave is Mystra, when gale reached out to the purple light and said he can feel her he was not kidding he was literally holding a tiny fraction of her in his hand
All of the scenes that include the astral sea? all the flashes of magic all the outer planes scenes ? All the colors and twinkling? the setting itself? all of it is Mystra
its not made by her it IS her
when my guy Gale said we stand in the palm of Mystra he wasn't being poetic he was being literal the very fabric of the illusion he conjures is Mystra not from her but is her
(on a side note Gale is pretty much very literal in his words and what he tells you but people always brush that off as some scholarly exaggeration for some reason which is another post tbh)
What did you guys think the meaning of magic dying with Mystra's death and her having be reborn 3 times to bring it back to stability?? Its not only because she controls it but because she *is* it.
When you look at Scene that have her or the weave do not only recognize Mystra as the face you see but include the background, the lights, the colors, the magic, everything, if its hard to visualize just imagine the weave and the weave plane as an extension of her dress all of it just the fabric of her dress going on and on and on making everything around her and Gale.
like notice how Mystra physically is not in these pics but she still is because every flash of purple is a thread of her being
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
here when you look at her you probably only see her "human form" but expand your understanding to see her as the weave behind her the sparkles, and stars, the weave rain around her, the very floor she is standing on, the sky she is floating around in
Tumblr media
Now onto the second point:
Why do Shar and Vlaakith present as these all powerful terrifying massive beautiful entities when needing to converse with their followers and Mystra presents as a regular woman ?
There are alot of points i can touch on that will explain there are a 100 reasons
But the main ones are Shar and Vlaakith NEED to intimidate their followers into recognizing them (in other words put the fear of god and anime into the hearts of people that look to them) because without this fear that they inspire they have no influence, they need to convince anyone that lays eyes on them that they are powerful from the very first glance, their power and influence depend on how much people fear them into submission.along side looking ethereal and menacing Shar uses pain and Vlaakith uses false godhood and rewritten gith history to achieve that . that's why they are beautiful and fearsome and massive and their temples/creche's are massive and grand Vlaakith's being on the highest mountain in the tallest building and Shar's gauntlet and house of pain being the deepest underground Structure to exist to the point that its a bit unbelievable (to the point that i had to pan with my camera outside around the mountain to see if its even plausible fhdjd) all of this is supposed to inspire absolute fear and submission into anyone that walks in makes them feel small and dominated by the goddesses power in a single instant so they can instantly gain control over them.
What about Mystra? What do we see she has in comparison?
We see Mystra only has her alter where its used for communication because that's all she needs... She doesn't need to prove her power she doesn't need to make people fear her she doesn't need submission and domination she doesn't need to be recognized because any magic wielding entity can just look into themselves and feel her threads inside of them can look around and feel her presence that's all she needs. And when she communicates with her weave users (what would be considered as her followers but not really) she needs to present an equal footing to them not a dominant one because she needs to discuss things, to reason, to convince them, not only because they are smart and powerful with or without her but because she has no say in what they do with the weave (as long as it doesn't ruin the balance) she cannot stop them or take it from them but she can persuade them to go a certain direction that's the extent of it. And that's why her alignment is neutral instead of evil even though we know she doesn't have the best actions and methods but she doesn't need to hurt people to gain power she simply... Is... And that gives her her power. (another side note this is also gale cant simply stop believing in her or abandon her worship or take of his earnings etc its not that simple as she is in the air he breathes yk)

Gather around adults it's random lore time - today's topic Sharess' Caress!
Going to start with the goddess Sharess. She is probably one of my favourites of dnd gods.
Faerûnian goddess of festhalls, hedonism, and sensual fulfillment. Passionate and willful, The Dancing Lady had the independent and hedonistic temperament of a feline, and encouraged her followers to spread pleasure to all. source
She is basically the goddess of hedonism and pleasure and, it's nice. I like it. I like that there is a god for it and it's a female. Likely the makers of this goddess was men who thought yeah, sexy loose lady but I see it as "a woman who is not afraid to own her desires" I like it.
Looking at her alliances she hangs with the good guys. Selune, Sune etc. But there was a brief time where Shar corrupted her and she was serving her. Now she opposes both Loviatar and Shar. Loviatar is a bit of a shame but maybe some kinky stuff happened when she was hanging with Shar.
Tumblr media
Now a word caught my eye there. Festhalls. We proceed to the related wiki page to find this:
A festhall was an establishment combining the services of brothels, casinos, and private clubs. Festhalls provided a variety of adult-themed leisure activities and entertainment, including sex work, gambling, day spas, dining, exotic dancing, companionship, role-play, and other specialized interests. source
So Festhalls basically combine any fun adult thing we can think of.
This brings us to the question - was Sharess' Caress a festhall? I would think yes. I don't remember seeing gambling but everything else was there!

Who killed Isobel Thorm?
Among all the questions plaguing me, this one is the most persistent. I hoped Isobel would give any information about how she died or what the fuck happened, but we get none. And unless I did something wrong, Dame Aylin doesn't shed any light either. I remember there was some cut content in the EA (but it's not relevant anymore), so we only know that Isobel was killed suddenly in her parent's home, and the family dog died defending her.
So, my best guess is:
Isobel was killed by a Sharran. Being a daughter of the paladin of Selune made her a target already. But a lover of Selune's daughter? Oh, her death would be a blow to the morale.
Ketheric, fearing that something like this would happen, probably begged Dame Aylin to appeal to her mother and bring Isobel back, prayed to Selune herself (if his daughter was chosen by her ambassador, it has to mean something? If Selune cares not for his another tragedy, maybe she cares about her own daughter's grief?).
The only response he got from Selune and Dame Aylin is that nothing can be done, and they should rally against the enemy to avenge Isobel, which made him incredibly enraged and bitter - he gave so much, Isobel gave so much to Selune, only for them both to be cast aside, treated like pawns in the endless squabble between gods?! So he renounced his servitude to Selune and went to Shar out of sheer spite (and secret hope that if he served her well, she would give back what she took or at least help him stop feeling). He captured Dame Aylin as an offering to Shar and a "fuck you, I'm taking your daughter then" to Selune (probably feeling disgusted how Moonmaiden hadn't done absolutely anything to help her own child; fuck maybe he even waited for her to start bargaining - Isobel in exchange for Dame Aylin's freedom).
As the paladin of Shar, Thorm led her forces against Harpers and the druids, and the Shadow Curse was unleashed after he fell.
Centuries later, Myrkul plucks him from the afterlife (I wonder whether Ketheric was on his way to the Wall of Faithless because he cursed Shar with his dying breath too, or if Myrkul simply 'borrowed' him from her domain because he and Shar are supposed to be buddies. If it's the latter, it also explains why Isobel just saw dark instead of being taken to Selune's domain - maybe Shar claimed her soul after her death somehow, which made retrieving Isobel a no-issue?).
...somehow, my thoughts ended up going into the "Faerun gods kinda suck" territory yet again. Why does it keep happening?

No, but Bhaal is the "puts their goals and dreams on their kids" kind of a shitty parent. No path but his is worth even a mention.
Shar is the parent who makes you always strive to be best at everything you do, making you work to be acknowledged, loved. The queen of conventional love what's not even love. Discards things(people) she no longer have use for. Manipulates "children" into believing she's always right.
Selûne is the absent parent. Idk what she's a "good" godess, in times of evil inaction is evil too. Ailyn herself said what bc Selûne and Shar are twins they can take/steal/transform each other's creations/etc. Yet she held back and let Aylin be killed over and over again, let Shadowheart be kidnapped and brainwashed into sharran. She doesn't actually let her "children" fight their own battles, she leaves them alone and waits till they either pass her obscure trials (no way Shadowheart being kidnapped, raised sharran and confronted with Nightsong wasn't some kind of "find a light in the dark" trial).
Ulder Ravengard: absent parent + a parent who discarded his child as someone who can never do anything right. Judges Wyll before Wyll even does something. Basically gives up on him when Wyll is 17 and is terribly hurt.
Sarevok Anchev: the perfect example of a parental abuse going down the line. Was hurt, used and controlled by Bhaal; hurt, controlled and used Helena and Orin both.
Cazador Szarr: the kind of "my house = my rules", "my children are not allowed personal space or opinions bc they're freeloaders/do not provide, I am their PARENT, therefore I am always right" parent. Literally calls Astarion ungrateful bc he saved him, clothed and fed him, so how dare-
A victim of abuse (awful work, Vellioth, I hope you're proud of yourself) repeating the cycle.
The Flymms. Treat their child as a property, going as far as selling him. Idk about reasons, the fact speaks for itself.
Ketheric Thorm. Claims he does everything he does for Isobel, but never asked what SHE wants. Hurt her lover for a century, brainwashes Isobel when she doesn't act like he wants her to. The good example of a parent genuinely loving their child and still being shitty bc of the assumption they know what's better for their child.
Raphael: a questionable parental figure, but I can't ignore the fact what Gortash was raised in his household for a significant amount of time and it affected him in...a bad way. I'm guessing a thin line between absent and controlling, also manipulative.

Hey! So far I've not seen anyone make the connection yet, so I thought I'd drop a little bit of lore/character development for Shadowheart that no one else seems to have found yet. Or if they did, I haven't seen anyone mention it. Mild spoilers having to do with Auntie Ethel in Act 1 of BG3.
Just before you enter Ethel's home, on the left, is a well that you can drink from. It gives you +10 hit points and the condition refreshed. Recently, before I decided to fight Ethel this playthrough, I had everyone in my party drink from it for the extra HP. This included my Tav (a Lolth cleric), Wyll, Astarion, and Shadowheart.
Now, if you didn't already know this, those +10 hit points and the refreshed condition disappear when you engage in combat with Ethel and are replaced by another condition: nauseated. Everyone in my party received this condition except one person. Guess who? Here's a pic for reference.
Tumblr media
As you can see, everyone in my party has the little nauseated icon except for Shadowheart. Ethel was dead at this point. The conditions don't wear off until you long rest, so I decided to loot her house before doing so. While I was doing just that, I found this book titled Mistress of the Night and Friends. In it, there's an explanation for why Shadowheart was not negatively affected by the well water.
Tumblr media
The book describes a short story of a woman who had many friends, suitors, and a beloved mother who wished her daughter only happiness. But the mother passed away, and the woman wept, so much so that all of her previous friends and suitors and acquaintances left her. She then prayed for someone, anyone to ease the loneliness she felt. And who answered? None other but Shar, of course.
Shar convinced the woman that no one else loved the woman except for her, and that all she needed was faith in Shar. Shar then gave the woman a vial, and told her to take it to a man (likely a follower of Shar, also). She did so without question. The man tampered with the vial, instructed the woman to throw it down a well, and she did just so. The book then says that many people got sick and died, except for the woman devoted to Shar, who remained perfectly healthy.
I bet you can guess what well she threw the vial down!
The implication here is that because Shadowheart is such a devout follower of Shar, Shar allows her to keep the blessing of the well where everyone else in your party gets nauseated (sick). Kind of a neat little attention to detail that I wasn't expecting that early on in the game. Anyways, shout out to Larian for the small things in this game! I thought this was super interesting and unique. Not sure about how the hag has a connection to Shar's well, but with "Friends" in the title, I assume she would maybe have at least an amicable relationship with the dark goddess.
