The Kraken’s Sacrifice (A Deal with a Demon Book 2) by Katee Robert
Tumblr media
Look, I know it’s the second book, but really, they aren’t required to be read in order necessarily... And it’s the freshest in my mind, I’m rereading the first one to bring accurate info so cut me some slack. Anyways, back at it, Katee Robert has brought another beautifully fast paced monster fucker romance to the shelves.
Now, normally, I have some beef when it comes to a fast pace in books, but the way Katee Robert writes makes you wonder what kind of power she would hold if the pace slowed down and we got even more time to bond with the story and characters. I promise, right off the bat, you’ll love her heroines.
Catalina is ours for this story, and she is a brat and I love her. She’s got the perfect snark mixed with insecurity and is a spot-on depiction of “Oh god I wish I would shut up... Why can’t I just shut up!” She’s a girl down on her luck and bringing her emotional baggage with her when she makes a deal with a demon to spend 7 years as the bride of a monster.
Thane is our monster. An unspecified height of a Kraken (must be big though with size difference being a key tag) who’s emotional baggage is costing just as much to fly with as Catalina’s. He is cold, stern, and God, I wish he had let her call him daddy...
The story is fast paced which means we are running into our first smut encounter around page 40-50 and there’s plenty more in the rest of the 170 pages. And yeah... there’s tentacles! (and a prehensile cock heheh)
Katee does wonders of immediately making you relate to her characters, especially her heroines, and having you fall in love with them right off the bat. And while sometimes the men can seem a little lackluster in the beginning it’s more of a slow burn coming around to getting to know them. By the end you’ll be begging for spinoffs of their story.
Catalina and Thane make a wonderful romantic duo of two people coping with their traumas, learning to communicate, and having sex all at the same time. Katee's easy-to-read writing style, wonderfully built characters, and creative explicit scenes make it no wonder that this book ranks high for me. A solid 8/10, I look forward to book 3.
Would I read again? Yes
Would I recommend? Absolutely, any of her books.

He gives me an almost-tentative stroke, and then his expression goes hard. “Beg for it.”
I almost do. Almost. But I am who I am, and I’ve never submitted easily once in my life. “Make me.”

Here’s the thing - when I’m looking for books to read, it is pretty unlikely that I’d gravitate towards a spicy monster x human romance. HOWEVER, if Katee Robert is the author? I will drop everything and read it IMMEDIATELY!!

October's monthly reading review! One of these things is not like the other
House of Leaves: 4.5/5. This is a hard book to review because there's the story aspect, which was like a 4/5, but the experience itself was 5/5. This book absolutely is bigger on the inside, just like the house. It was hard to read and get through at certain points, especially since I read it straight through. I would recommend reading Johnny's footnotes at the end of the chapter, maybe. But as soon as I finished this book I went online looking for theories and I somehow became more hooked. I get it now.
The Kraken's Sacrifice: 2/5. Listen. The only reason I'm buying these at this point is for the covers. These are going to be the only books in my guest bedroom. If you spend the night at my house, you will have your choice of subpar monster romance novellas. This book wasn't good because the author was trying to do too much in less than 200 pages. Either stick to only tentacle sex or give yourself more pages to flesh out the story. This was just a horribly mediocre middle point between those two things.
Babel: 5/5. On the complete other end of the spectrum, Babel was just as amazing as I've heard. I will admit it isn't perfect, but I'll be damned if I don't give it 5 stars anyways. I highly recommend reading this book if you have any interest in language or linguistics. I loved the magic system and the extreme niche that it occupies. I could feel how much love and time R.F. Kuang put into this story and I respect her so much for being able to pull it off.

I can't bring myself to admit this to anyone irl sooo
I just cried my way through The Kraken's Sacrifice by Katee Roberts for so many reasons. The biggest being that I'm currently being heavily affected by period hormones.
But anyway, if you like monster-fucker romance you should definitely read it! Tentacles and softness, 10/10
