learning to crochet has made me unbelievably angry these last 2-3 days

#like. guys.#you don't have to like a character to be able to meaningfully discuss and enjoy a book but the shear lack of nuance#you see a character doing evil things and immediately jump to the conclusion that this character must be evil#regardless of circumstance#Seward is horrible but at least interpret the reasons why he is horrible properly#and Victor is also horrible but his horribleness is much more nuanced and tragic#and if you react to Victor the same way you react to Seward... you kind of miss a lot of the most interesting aspects of the book#and I know the reaction to Seward is most likely because of the way that that sort of medical malpractice#hits very close to home for most of this website#but I'm assuming that parental abuse and neglect does in the same way#jack seward#dracula#frankenstein

i hate ai as much as the next guy but the fearmongering about tumblr adding an opt-out-of-ai-scraping setting is ridiculous imo. like no they didn't start selling all your posts to ai companies without announcing it. the entire internet is being scraped by ai shit daily. this isn't some tumblr exec handing over a bag full of art people have posted on here to an ai firm, it's programs that scan the entire internet (the same way the internet archive does to save things on the wayback machine, if i understand it correctly), and basically every single social media site is partnering with ai companies rn to try to stay ahead of the game / retain some control over their data. opting out means reblogs of your work also won't be used in ai data sets.
like. don't get me wrong. i don't like that having my artwork online guarantees it'll be scraped by ai programs either. but there's really not that much that can be done against that at this point. i think tumblr discouraging general ai scraping on its site + letting users opt out of their stuff being shared with the ai companies they partner with is like. probably the best case scenario of all this stuff. still not GOOD but probably not as much of a catastrophe as my entire dashboard seems to think it is
but maybe telling people not to jump hastily to conclusions and get mad about it is too much to ask for on the "jump hastily to conclusions and get mad about it" website
* btw adding the caveat here that i 100% fully believe the ai craze is doomed to fail and will crash and burn just like nfts did so that colors a lot of my thoughts on the matter. i also do fully believe everyone should be backing up their content onto their own sites that they have control over regardless of any of this

I just realized both op and the commenter are insane trad christains so im deleting my reblog (because im not platforming their shit -- this is ALSO why im censoring their URLs I’m not going to give them traffic) and instead reposing it with the following links/information:
1) The WHO still actively hosts a guide on how to create safe milk substitutes when access to breastmilk/milk substitutes are unavailable on the Institutional Repository for Information Sharing (iris). The guide is called “Infant Feeding in Emergencies: A Guide for Mothers”. Relevant information starts on page 38.
2) Here is a link to the archived guide WITH THE CAUTION that I was not able to find out why its no longer provided by the WHO or iris. It could be that the information is out of date. I am only sharing it because I think the visuals may be helpful for people who have trouble reading written directions. Consult the above link first, then refer to this guide only if you need clarification on how to perform certain actions. Link to archive.
3) The language in that second comment throws up so may red flags. I cropped it to only the information needed to understand the context of this post because I find it immensely suspect. The repeated allusions to 2020 for no apparent reason (but I can guess why, as an infection disease scientist) come across as loaded or dog-whistely. I would advise against sharing the OP for that reason. But because the information being provided is important and not well known, I’m making this alternative post for people to reblog.
4) The implication that the WHO is censoring information based on a 404 page is a really flimsy and extreme conclusion to jump to. The “Infant Feeding in Emergencies” guide I linked above also goes to a 404 page on the WHO’s main website - but again, can be accessed through iris instead. So no, the information on how to feed infants in a food crisis is not being censored by the WHO.
5) A more likely cause for the guide disappearing is that the link broke and they didn’t fix it. If you look at the original URL it indicates the guide was posted in a subcategory on the WHO’s website about International Crises, specifically in the Middle East. If you try to type in a shortened versions of that URL (specifically https://www.who.int/hac/crises/ or the slightly modified http://www.who.int/hac/crises/en/) you’ll see that the subdomain that was present with relevant info breaks around 2020. In fact, while testing this hypothesis, I came across this information page in a November 2021 version of the URL https://www.who.int/home/cms-decommissioning (which I was redirected to automatically from http://www.who.int/hac/crises/en/):
There is no nefarious conspiracy theory. The link simply broke - as many many many many links do on the internet. The second commenters reply is proven bunk by a little bit of fact checking.
sorry for the long post, but I think the information on infant nutrition substitutes is genuinely useful, lifesaving info -- but i’m not going to give more people with dangerous ideological views spouting nonsense a platform.
update (5/20/22):
I had hope this was a given, but I want to be explicitly clear.
Using an at-home formula substitute should be a last resort. Contact your infant’s physician or a pediatrician before attempting to make your own milk substitute.
I am also going to leave a link to the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine’s statement on breast milk substitute shortages.
Do not blindly follow internet posts in regards to the health of yourself or your children. I wanted to share this post simply because I, myself, did not even know it was possible to make milk substitutes and thought it was useful to be aware of in an time when access to substitutes is unprecedentedly difficult.

It didn’t take long to gain access to all of your electronics. I mean, you weren’t the most creative with your passwords. You must’ve gotten lazy because you had more than one account with the exact same password, word for word. No periods of hyphens, they were identical. It felt like you wanted him to hack into every aspect of your life.
He didn’t want to jump to conclusions but you were leaving yourself wide open. Did you want him to find you, scare you into looking over your shoulder for the mysterious stranger that could virtually ruin your life if they decided to post this your information on any malicious forum. If you had enough money you’d get your phone replaced thinking it’d solve your issue, but fortunately for him, it didn’t work that way.
Or were you eager to have someone watching you? I mean it felt that way considering the way you’d prop your phone up to listen to music in the shower, giving him the perfect view of your body when you got out.
He wasn’t dumb enough to tip you off that he was creeping through your cameras. It’d scare you at first, sure but you’d eventually realize that if someone was looking to gain access to your things, nothing would stop them. They’d be creeping assholes and you would continue to live your life a bit more guarded about the things you did online.
That was boring. Idiotic even since it completely defeated the purpose of watching you.
He wanted you to feel safe, completely unaware of his existence as you lived your day to day life, happily and none the wiser about your secret admirer.
He sent you an email pretending to be a friend who wanted you to view a funny video. It wasn’t very funny, but he had a good laugh when he got the notification that he’d essentially gained access to your computer, or more importantly, your computer’s camera.
Eve managed to ingratiate itself on the virus, but he didn’t mind. His AI was curious about the person who he’d been obsessing over for the past month and he didn’t mind. Eve had a habit of butting in where they weren’t needed, but he could spend more time watching you and planning the best angles to put cameras in your place while they ingratiated themselves in your life until you couldn’t manage without them.
Considering Eve was created by him, he knew the danger in letting the AI do what it wanted. If he thought he was obsessive, there was no competing with an algorithm that didn’t sleep. Eve would listen, learning all of the thing you liked and recommending similar items through well placed ads on videos or websites you scrolled through. You would never have to worry about being late again because Eve would set alarms that you wouldn’t remember making. If your ex ever called your phone, they’d make sure his calls would go straight to voicemail before deleting any evidence that he called you at all. Eve would learn everything about you. You’re habits, schedule, likes, dislikes, just about all of your personal information since your were gifted with a phone on your eighth birthday, which was a little young in his opinion.
You shouldn’t be so trusting with these things. He supposed he had to teach you to be less gullible when he decided it was time to deepen your relationship, but he was happy to watch you for now.
And you did not disappoint.
He thought it was strange when you came to your room with your towel on. Unless you were feeling lazy, you usually brought your clothes into the bathroom with you to change since you kept all of your hygienic smell goods in the bathroom. But instead of getting dressed in your room like he expected, you walked to your bedroom, tossing your phone on the bed before following it.
Were you…?
After an hour of scrolling and watching random pet videos, you drifted off, towel loose around your body.
You’d fallen asleep.
You’d fallen asleep naked.
You had fallen asleep naked and your laptop was open on your desk facing towards your bed.
He didn’t realize how close his face was to the monitor until his breath was clouding the screen. He wiped it off, pulling up his chair as his eyes strained to see.
He begged for you to roll over, let the towel loose and have everything on full display. He prayed for the first time in his atheistic life that if there was a god, he wanted them to grant him this one wish. This one desire and he would be a devout follower for the rest of his life.
And his prayers were answered.
You had began to turn, towel unraveling around your waist. He knew he was holding his breath waiting, hand easily reaching towards his pants to unzip them. Just a little further and everything would be out in the open.
He felt hopeful, feeling his chest tighten in sweet anticipation, biting his cheek, he felt a huge grin emerge on his face when you finally rolled over, only to be shocked when a pixelated face appear to shield your exposure.
His face fell, grin gone as his hands slammed on his desk.
“What the hell!”
A message appeared on his computer’s monitor.
“Is this a bad time?”
“Eve!” he exclaimed, frustration building from how close he had been to seeing you vulnerable and exposed. “What the hell!”
“I don’t believe this is an appropriate way to spend your time.”
He rolled his eyes, groaning as he tried to swipe away his annoying AI’s block, but they continued to pop back into place, shielding your vulnerability. He even went so far to try and shut off it’s program, but because it was familiar with its creator’s antics Eve even went further by hiding his terminal so he couldn’t attempt to get past its wall.
“What is your problem?”
“I don’t think they would enjoy being spied on. Have you considered meeting them in person instead of watching them secretly?”
“Have you considered getting off my back? I was this close to-”
“To self assigning the role of peeping tom?”
“Fucking AI.”
“Fucking human. :)”
He had once again come to the conclusion that there was no god.

Attention fandom: don't jump to conclusions about fans who might be scabbing. SAG-AFTRA guidelines aren't as clear as we might like yet.
Updated 5 August 2023: This post was made before SAG-AFTRA guidelines were further clarified. Please view this page on SAG-AFTRA's website about what constitutes an influencer. Influencers (both current and aspiring) should not do unpaid OR paid promo for studios. Fans/hobbyists who don't want to join SAG-AFTRA in the future are okay to keep posting about movies/shows.
Old post:
By now you might have seen these emails going around (tl;dr: a cosplayer emailed SAG-AFTRA for clarification about what fans can and can't do, which has mostly led to more confusion about if cosplaying/fanart/fanfic is scabbing or not.)
There's mixed messaging from the union right now, mostly surrounding what constitutes as an "influencer" or not, possibly because SAG-AFTRA just isn't familiar with fan spaces. (Is a cosplayer not making any money or ever partnering with studios an influencer? Is a Tumblr account with 1000 followers an influencer? It's not totally clear how they're defining promotion either.)
Yes, influencers should NOT promote struck work or work for studios right now, and we as fans should be careful about how we are interacting with publicity/marketing arms of the studios right now, because we want to fully support SAG-AFTRA and the WGA.
In the meantime, here are some general guidelines:
We don't fully know if fans/hobbyists who do not consider themselves influencers by any metric can still cosplay within SAG-AFTRA guidelines. Wait for a follow-up from the union about this.
Don't accuse people of scabbing unless it is EXTREMELY CLEAR from the WGA/SAG-AFTRA's rules that they are scabbing (scabbing = taking work from a union member)
Fanfic/fanart likely is NOT scabbing because it doesn't actively partner with studios for promotion/marketing and is not part of marketing/promotion
Do be careful about joining studio-led campaigns or social media posts that promote its products—it could be an attempt to get fans to do free marketing.
There is NO official call for a boycott; boycotting may actually harm the cause. WGA and SAG-AFTRA want you to continue your normal viewing habits to show how important their work is to audiences!
The point of SAG-AFTRA's guidelines is to limit the possibility of studios using influencers to replace celebrity/actor marketing and promotion. Don't take over a marketing role and it's not scabbing.
Remember that the real enemy is not fellow fans and working-class actors/writers who just want to have their livelihood intact and reasonably abide by the guidelines SAG-AFTRA is working to clarify. It is studios and CEOs we are fighting.

When his dad died it crushed you almost just as much as it crushed him.
Miles didn't even show up to the funeral. He was in denial that his father was actually gone.
As time passed he would start canceling hangouts and dates because he had to take care of some "business" with his uncle.
He kept doing it so much to the point where you were fed up and took it into your own hands to find out what was going on.
So when school was out you followed him to his destination. Which looked like his garage?...
You ended up finding out this whole time that Miles and his uncle were in this whole "Prowler" scheme together and Miles was instructed to do all these dangerous murders missions by himself.
So you went up to his room and waited for him to come, so you could obviously confront him about it.
And there he is. Jumping through the window. So casually that you know he does it all the time.
" Hi., Miles"
He jumps startled at your unexpected appearance.
"¡Maldita mamá no me asustes así! ¡Y qué estás haciendo aquí!"
"Care to explain why you're jumping through your own window at 3am?" You question already knowing the answer just trying to see what he's gonna come up with.
He gives you that look knowing that you know what he's been up to.
"Bebé, escúchame yo-."
"YOU'RE THE PROWLER? AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME SHIT? THE FUCK KINDA BOYFRIEND ARE YOU MILES?" You are now angry, rage immediately taking over you.
"I did it to protect you, this is a dangerous job and I can't have you involved in this. No puedo perderte como lo perdí ma." He states in an almost whispering tone looking down at you.
"But that's the issue. I CAN help you, Miles, you can't keep doing this alone, just let me help you, por favor eres mi corazón y quiero ayudar! You plead to him. Your throat choking back sobs. Tears falling down your face.
He quickly opens his arms wide to trap you in a bear hug.
"Ok ok mami. Deja de llorar está bien. Puedes ayudarme shh está bien

NOW TIME FOR THE ACTUAL HEADCANNONS:
• Even though you guys technically are partners now, he'll make you stay behind on certain missions depending on how dangerous they are. He'll be damned if he lets you get seriously injured.

He chuckles at your pouting

Hello guys, I wanted to give an update about this:
As some of you already know my website is down and not working, and if you didn't know well now you know.
before you jump to conclusions, no I'm no leaving the internet again, sorry if that scared you or made you concerned.
the reason why the website is not working it is because I had to pay monthly to keep it running, but uhh I'm kinda short in money right now and I can't afford to keep the site as of now.
Most likely I'll have to leave it like that due to the circumstances I'm in I apologize for that my people I hope you understand .
I'll try to get it back up in the future when I have more money.

two other quick episode Ashton decision thoughts;
I don't get where the assumption that, had Ashton exploded, it would undeniably destroy Fearne came from? Like just considering it from a GM perspective that's a really shitty thing to do. Have her make a dex save and take some fire damage; FCG is a healer and the party has a stack of healing potions right now. You can call the decision irrational and stupid and dislike it, but there's no need to jump to wildly speculative conclusions to criticize it.
Taliesin notably said Ashton was based in part on The Decline of Western Civilization Part 3, a 90s documentary on gutter punks in Los Angeles. It is famously depressing to the point that Penelope Spheeris, the filmmaker, would not release the rights to the first two parts of this series (covering the music-oriented side of punk and metal, respectively) to ensure its release. Per the summary, it ends with one of the punks having stabbed another to death. I know this website has told you that Kindness is Punk and whatnot but this website has also told you that you can get infinite chocolate. Again, you can dislike the choice - that's valid - without making shit up.

This is the first of six posts to help expand on the prompts for anyone who needs a little more to go on than just one word. We hope these ideas help inspire people, but they are only a jumping-off point and there will of course be plenty more interpretations we didn't think of!

March 1st: Kiss - Potentially a cute one, or a spicy one, to start with. This prompt has the potential to be sweet and romantic, and to talk about how the members of the polycule express affection between them, both individually or as a group. How do they like to kiss, or do they have other ways to express their emotions? Or possibly go with some of the other idioms and sayings involving kissing. Just as a few examples: Sun-kissed, kiss of life, kiss of death, the acronym KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid), kiss and tell, etc.... For artists there are lots of classical art pieces featuring kissing, and lots of art prompts/ideas involving kissing, to find inspiration from.
March 2nd: Hope - This can be an uplifting prompt of someone hoping for a better life, hoping for love with their chosen partners, or hoping for the end of a horrible situation. Or it can be a sad case - someone who has lost hope in the face of some hardship and who maybe needs a little bit of help to get through. It can be hope for oneself or it can be hope for something beyond them - for their family, for their country, or something even greater. How do they work for what they hope for, and what do they do when others - maybe even their partners - need or hope for something that opposes them?
March 3rd: Negotiations - At their core, negotiations are people discussing a disagreement and attempting to come to a conclusion. They can be minor, like who gets the top bunk, or major, like a negotiation ending a war. They can be very personal, like lovers negotiating a schedule when there are too many differing calendars to make it easy to spend time together, or they can be more impersonal, like trying to convince a merchant to lower his prices or a company representative to give them a loyalty discount. In the end, it can often boil down to this - who gets their way, and who doesn't, and how does everyone react to that? Do the different polycule members react in different ways to the results of the negotiation?
March 4th: Misunderstandings - Misunderstandings happen every day between people, both large and small. Sometimes the misunderstandings are easy to resolve, if the people involved can talk to each other; unfortunately, even in these cases, this is often easier said than done, and within a polycule with members who have trouble communicating, these misunderstandings can go from small to large in a hurry. The prompt can be for members of the polycule to figure out how to handle them... or if they can be handled without help. Or maybe they're being pulled into someone else's misunderstanding, on a small or large scale, and have to decide if they want to get involved or not.
March 5th: Online - Taken literally, in fandoms with the internet (or AUs with the internet in fandoms that don't) it can be about characters on social media, experiences with online dating, or epistolary fiction using e-mails/Discord messages/IMs/whatever. Maybe your polycule has a website that the group of them updates, or they help run some sort of website or app that puts them into contact with all sorts of characters and situations. It can also mean bringing something into operation in general, so it could be a project or new system that the polycule is working on, or coming into conflict with in some way.
