summary: when things don't go according to plan, the unexpected events really give you a surprise.

“It was a joke..” He muttered, confused why his girlfriend—well ex-girlfriend was even fighting him on twitter.

'Moon guy doesn't even stand a chance for my friend, I don't even support him.'

A simple twitter post that was retweeted by him with a caption of 'Maybe this is your the one' along with his friend's tag—his friend seemed unbothered by his joke and even decided to humor him a bit, so the man was lost at the sudden attack from his ex.

“Well your humor's shit.” He reads aloud and as much as Xiao still loved you—he was rather confused on why, just why are you so pressed about that one twitter post he retweeted as a joke for a friend.

'...Does she like this Moon guy or something?' His brows furrow at this, he was going to court you again but seeing how you got mad over the simple twitter post.. at this point the man gave up on defending himself for his joke as he began to write a new post. A public apology.

Heck—Xiao doesn't even know why he was doing this, perhaps it was because he didn't want to upset you. Even if you two broke up, upsetting you was something Xiao didn't want to do.

And as he posted the public apology that had a lot of likes in no time—considering he was an actor. Seeing as you didn't sound upset anymore and was attacking him for the joke, that eased Xiao and allowed me to let out a sigh of relief.

Archons, that joke certainly didn't do well.

— VENTI

Companion. That was what you asked of Venti—what you told him when you invited him to your travels, you knew nothing of sort from the bard, no idea which nation he resided in. But it was fair—knowing he didn't know you resided in Khaenri'ah.

But here you two were, revealing the secrets the both of you hid as you two headed to Watatsumi. “I'm a former Archon, The Anemo Archon.” You could hear the fear in Venti's tone as he reveals his past to you—as he tells you he was Mondstadt's former Archon. “Youngest and Weakest.”

And as he finished, the bard was unusually quiet whilst eyeing the floor as if it was the most interesting thing he had ever seen. Venti knows what the Archons had done. And even if he didn't participate in the war as it was his mother who did so—he knows people can hold a grudge from the parent to the child. 'Who wouldn't?'

Because once you're an Archon, the title will stick to you even when you step down.

The former Archon was silent and so were you as you extended a hand out for him to take, because you knew if you spoke—if a word slips out your mouth you would be against your own morality. But you have always been against yourself your entire life. You were never the one to go with the norms.

Venti sucks a breathe at this as he hesitantly takes your hand in his, slowly interwining them as he muttered out his apologies for the original Archon's mistakes—for his mother's mistakes. Apologizing and allowing himself to let out his guilt from what happened.

And you stayed quiet through all of it, not minding it as you knew, a parent's mistake cannot be passed down to a child. And so you only caressed his hand and leaned down to place a small kiss on it. An act of devotion.

For kissing an Archon's hand meant respecting and worshiping them. And a Khaenri’ahn like you is far from that. But you felt like the action was all needed without much words needed to say.

“Then you must be the most divine I have ever met, my Archon.”

How ironic. A Non-believer and an Archon in a relationship.

This certainly wasn't how it was suppose to go but no one's really complaining.

— AETHER

Aether was confused. How or why did it come to this?—The last time he checked he didn't hate you, he just preferred to not socialize with you because he had no reason to—well that was back then.

So the blonde was confused hearing your words thinking he hated you and such, right after he confessed. “That... sounds ridiculous.” He agrees to what you say, when you said you were an idiot for assuming.

Because you were an idiot. Just because someone didn't talk to you—you assume they hate you? Can't a man just not socialize? It wasn't a requirement to talk to you on set.

But Aether grew to love you and so, he couldn't be mad at your assumptions. He only sighs and nods in understanding, “I apologize for that misunderstanding then, princess.”

He leaned down to press a kiss to your hand, looking at you apologetically. He was still confused but you do you. “No, no. I'm sorry for assuming!” You felt guilty, your stupidity really was on another level.

Assuming your co-actor hated you because he wouldn't talk to you off-set was truly a mistake on your part, to think you even talked bad about him on your private twitter account... You were really guilty.

“But let's put that behind us, okay? We cleared that misunderstanding up now.” “Okay...”

That was truly a stupid misunderstanding.

— THE WANDERER

He can't believe this. He said he'll keep you around so he can use you, so he can have someone to order around when his subordinates are too useless to finish his orders.

But 'lo and behold, the Balladeer doing his paperwork with you on his lap, dozing off comfortably as your head rested on his shoulder and an arm wrapped around your waist whilst his other hand signed documents.

“When are you gonna be done?” You mumbled, no hint of complaints in your tone—sounding genuinely curious yet sleepy. “Soon, baby. Just give me more time.” He softly says—something no one—not even Scaramouche himself thought he could do, yet he moves his free hand to stroke your back as he continued to work.

“Mm... Okay. Wake me up when you're done..” You muttered, eyes failing to stay open as you press a kiss to his neck before nuzzling your head there as you dosed off from feeling Scaramouche's warmth engulf your whole being.

Scaramouche only hums at your words, focusing on finishing his work just so he can go and rest with you properly.

This was not suppose to happen.

— ALBEDO

You told yourself, you just want to be acquaintances with the famous Lord Albedo from Khaenri’ah.

Yet why were you here, with him on their manor's rooftop—having an intimate moment with him as you two admire the stars?

Doing things acquaintances don't usually do. Acquaintances don't lean on each other in the most closest way possible—they don't have deep talks with each other.

And you certainly don't interwine hands with an acquaintance. “What does this make us?”

You hear the man beside you mumble breathlessly. “Honesty will be much needed, my Grand Duchess.” He adds, the question had you turning your head to look at the man.

“Definitely not just friends.” You laugh, cheeks warming up at the use of your title—no matter how many times you've heard it, something about the man saying it felt different.

Though you were feeling bold and brave. “I can't say lovers since none of us asked each other...” And so you look at him, gaze unwavering as you spoke. “So allow me to ask first. How about you take the place as my lover, my Lord?”

“Then I'll be glad to be your lover.” Albedo leaned down to press a kiss to your hand. “Be mine, my Grand Duchess. Be my lover.”

Your breathe hitched at this and although it was you who asked, all the confidence and boldness disappeared just from one single statement from him. “I'm yours, my Lord.” You manage to mutter our breathlessly,

Acquaintances definitely don't do these kind of things.

About Iris: That day you saved Mondstat I could never forget it and then I heard more stories about the amazing things you've done in many other nations I really really wanted to be like you but...I know now I'm gonna have to be my own person.

About us swords: Honestly I first started to use a sword because I wanted to be like you but now why throw away all the practicing!

About vision: I remember it was just a boring day at first I was out adventuring and I got cornered by some hopper flowers I was thinking "what kind a person does like this" or "other travelers would have beaten this thing easily" so I kept fighting them because I didn't want to die because of a stupid flower I don't remember the fight but I do remember looking at my feet and I saw my vision in front of me.

Something to share: Honestly there are so many loupe holes in many commissions you just gotta think huh? What do you mean that's wrong? Fiiinne I'll do it by the book...I'm just saying it would be faster.

About Eula: Once I was wondering around and I accidentally bumped into her she said something about vengeance and I was paranoid for awhile until Amber reassured me it wasn't what I was thinking.

About Diluc: I was wondering around at night and Diluc suddenly appeared out of nowhere and told me "It's not safe to walk around at night alone I'll walk you home" and he did! I wonder why he was out though...

About Razor: Oh Bennetts friend! I don't know much about him but he seems super cool.

About Mona: I never spoke to her before but once I saw her stare at me from afar I was about to go do a commission and she just shook her head...I didn't go because I got distracted turns out the commission was a trap set up by some bandits...scary.

About Rosaria: I never talked to her before we did sorta meet when I was in the tavern listening to Venti's performance and she pointed to me and asked Kaeya "Why is a kid here shouldn't Diluc kick her out?" Kaeya told her I was fine here though haha.

About Albedo: When I had a commission in the mountains I was scared about getting lost and freezing to death and he saw me at the camp and offered to lead the way since he was already heading up.

About Klee: One time I got super worried about her so I went to Miss Lisa she told me that Klee was in solitary confinement just what could a little kid do to be in there?

About Noelle: I don't know why she's not a knight she's amazing! She once saw me in the rain and pulled me inside helping me dry off and made sure I wouldn't get sick.

About Bennett: He actually gave me tips on how to use my sword but...I feel kinda bad for him I wish his bad luck would stop.

About Sucose: I see her at the alchemist table a lot when I need to make materials she gives me nice tips.

About Fischl: Honestly I can never understand what she says thankfully she has her companion to translate.

About Venti: I love his songs I always try to make it to the statue of the anemo archon or the tavern! Diluc let's me he just makes sure I don't get any alcohol.

About Barbara: I kinda feel bad for her especially about that weirdo Albert doesn't he know how insane he acts! I wish the church would let me hit him.

“I’m going out to meet Aether today, do you need anything while I’m out?” you ask Venti before sipping out of your coffee cup, Venti shakes his head

“Not unless you want to buy some dandelion wine for dinner tonight” he jests “Why with Aether?” he then asks after a beat, Venti’s curiosity getting the better of him. You hum in response

“I’m just joining him and Paimon for some adventure guild stuff” you respond, you had been practicing that lie for a little while longer than you wanted to admit, and thank god Venti takes the lie.

“I’ll see you tonight?” he asks as you get up from the table and gather your things for the day

“Of course, I might even swing by Angels Share and see you play” you respond giving him a kiss before you leave

That’s how the last few days have gone. And although at the beginning it seemed fine Venti has been ignoring a sinking feeling of you just leaving him for the, quite literally, out of this world Aether.

Now, it’s not because Venti is insecure about the relationship you share. If anything your daily affirmations of your love is more than enough to prove that nothings going on on the sidelines. But the irrational part of his brain refuses to acknowledge that part. It also doesn’t help when the thousand winds only mock him and joke when he asks about you.

Now on the one hand he could go and check to see what’s happening, but wouldn’t that just prove that he doesn’t ‘trust’ you? Does he abandon his trust in you just to entertain the feelings that are growing in the pit of his stomach?

He decides that trusting you is much better then succumbing to his emotions. So Venti does the next best thing, he complains to Diluc about it while the latter is still manning the bar.

Before the two of you fall asleep in bed you hear Venti go to say something a small handful of times.

“Cat got your tongue?” you tease “Is everything okay?” you ask him. Venti sighs, a little embarrassed he got caught but he answers none the less

“Are you happy?” he asks “Like with me?” he adds quickly, he purposely avoids looking you in the eyes, he doesn’t want to cry and if he’s looking at you in the eyes when you tell him the harsh truth of not being happy he will weep.

“Of course I am Venti” you assure him, sitting up to embrace the bard “You mean the world to me, every day I feel so lucky to wake up beside you. It makes me feel like I can take on the world” you confess with a smile and a kiss into his hair “Where did this come from?” you ask with a small frown, Venti bites his lip

“Just.. you’ve been spending so much time with Aether I thoug-” he trails off causing you to chuckle

“There’s nothing like that going on between us. I’ll tell you all about it once I’ve finished the work with him” you assure rubbing circles on Venti’s back. He nods

“Promise?” he asks looking up to you, you nod

“Cross my heart”

Over the next few days you’re are sure to keep reaffirming to Venti that he’s the one you’re with even though you still keep seeing Aether. He wonders what the two of you are doing. Did you perhaps lie? But you’re not that kind of person, you’ve told him that outright, but the feeling he still gets is unsettling to say the least.

Just as Venti plans to bring it up again over dinner Paimon appears before the bard.

“Venti you need to come to Windrise with me right now!” she exclaims before flying off and not giving Venti a second to ask what’s happening.

And he starts running towards the famed tree. There must be one reason to why the flying companion has decided to get him in particular to follow her. You or Aether must be severely hurt right?

When Venti finally makes it to the tree he can’t help but notice a small collection of friends, as well as a perfectly fine Aether and you.

“What’s happening?” he asks walking up to the collection of people. They all smile between themselves as you step forwards

“Well my love. It’s our second year anniversary today. Aether has helped me immensely with this little get together” you smile taking his hands. You give Venti a moment to process your words

“Oh my archon, I-” he says before you cut him off

“It’s okay I guessed as much” you grin before sinking onto a knee

“[name] what’s happening?” he asks suddenly getting very embarrassed at the fact he thought you were cheating on him for the past two weeks

“Venti” you say his name, he looks at you in the eyes “Would you do me the honour of making me the happiest person in all of Teyvat?” you ask producing a ring from your pocket “Marry me?” you ask with a smile

Venti’s breath falters for a moment, he suddenly understands the teasing from his kin, the extreme annoyance from Diluc when he was venting to him. You were truly planning something so innocent and beautiful to confess your love to him, and he what? Presumed you were cheating...

“Of course I will [name]” he exclaims knocking you over with the force of his hug. A round of applause from those around you erupts and after the ring is secured on Venti’s finger the friends around him all congratulate him. He notices you hugging Aether and profusely thanking him for spending so much time planning this.

Oh man the second he gets back home with you he’s going to find the best ways to apologise for doubting you.
