The Darkest Nightmare is truly the fanservice DetCo movie of all time, from those I've watched so far at least.
Guess the executives had decided to go big or go home for the 20th anniversary back then. Like it was an almost full-cast Black Org movie. It had Akai & Amuro reluctantly working together on the same goal. We saw Conan being goddamn immortal with that last flashy rescue. Honestly, the Ferris wheel thing was plain ridiculous! My suspension of disbelief reached its limit with that one (and we already had the falling billboard in Eleventh Striker lol) 🤣🤣🤣
Although, I have to say that Curaçao's situation pulled at my heartstrings there in the end. Idk I suppose I get emotionally attached to one-time movie characters whose fate is tragic from beginning to end. I mean, it was also the first time that the post-credits scene was kinda bittersweet with its tone and it didn't feel cheap to me (despite, you know, the rest of the movie being an over-the-top action flick through and through).
Makes me wonder if by the time the Detective Boys grow older and everything is over with the Black Org, they would look back on these 'adventures' and process what actually happened. Because, for the most part, they are blissfully ignorant of the true events as kids. Only Conan and Haibara get to emotionally deal with the implications and loose ends of these intense movie plots and they aren't that much of mature adults themselves.

Hi Detective, what did you think of Movie 20?
It had a lot of good concepts going for it, as well as great fanservice ideas, but the way it all came together, the weak reasoning for characters' actions, the sidelining of characters as well as the lack of an actual mystery, made the movie feel like it was somewhat rushingly put together. The only well executed thing was in my opinion Curacao's characterization and her relationship development with the Detective Boys.
There was a lot of initial hype watching the movie because of a lot of new things happening that has never happened before, but upon rewatch, it does feel like cheap unearned fanservice and I wouldn’t put it on my top favorites.

So I dragged a friend of mine into the DCMK fandom it seems, at least he sounded a whole lot like he wouldn’t be able to resist at least the movies
His introduction to DCMK as a whole was my special interest info-dumping (aka me being unable to shut up since I slipped back into DCMK)
Today he watched Movie 20 (The Darkest Nightmare) with me and he said he’s already simping for Bourbon, Gin, and Akai
I genuinely had forgotten that Darkest Nightmare is about the best introduction to DCMK because it covers so many characters all at once and gives an overview about what the fuck is happening all around

sorryyy okay like i get why people would find skinamarink boring. i understand i do. but like. i am the most easily bored person in the universe and i was fucking ENTRANCED the entire film. i couldn't look away. i felt sick to my stomach. i wasn't even necessarily scared the whole time i was just. i don't know. i felt like a kid alone in the dark. and when you're a kid alone in the dark, you can't take your eyes off the dark for even a moment because you don't know what'll be there when you get back. and that's how skinamarink felt. like yeah i'm staring at a shot of the ceiling but what would happen if i were to take my eyes OFF the ceiling. and then eventually you find out and it's just as bad as you thought.

I love how dream manifest shadows or makes privacy every time him and wanderer are having a intimate moment. I hope that makes sense ? My English is not very good lol. You’re a phenomenal writer by the way. 💌💌💌
