What are questions you would have asked gosho if you could?
I would ask him "which characters/developments did you plan to get introduced when you had planned for DC to not run for so long?"
There were hints suggesting that Yoko Okino could have been Gosho's early concept for Vermouth's disguise (since she carried a "Statue of Liberty" lighter & ashtray with cigarette buds on during her intro), and we know Sherry was foreshadowed in Akemi's intro, so it would be interesting to actually learn which other characters and developments that have already happened right now that he had planned since those early first cases.

Hello MTX, happy new year!
What are your thoughts about Detective Conan's 30 years in serialization and what are your expectations (realistic and what you actually want) from the Detective Conan manga this year?
Likewise :)
My expectations for the 30th anniversary isn't particularly high, as whatever comes of it might not necessarily be expressed through the manga. We could also have it celebrated through the anime, like a new DC special or through the already intriguing cast of Movie 27 (that reflects all of Gosho's previous manga works), or it could also be celebrated through some real-life event (like opening up a new commercial DC place).
In terms of what I'm expecting from the manga's side of things, I think we could get a ShinRan-centric case, since they are among the foundations of the series that every fan and Gosho cares about. It could be something minor like Ran's birthday happening, or if we are lucky, something major like Rum climax taking place with Shinichi vs Rum and raising the stakes of their romantic relationship in a high-tense confrontation. What I could see us actually getting this year at the very least is the former (regardless if it's a birthday or not), but what I do truly want is the latter. You can already sense we are at the brink of high-gearing towards the end/climax of Rum arc, so it couldn’t be more fitting to have the main plot with Shinichi, Ran & BO go through a drastic exciting progression and finish off the arc during this 30th anniversary of the manga.
This year could also simply be a slow build of the subplots/main plots, while the return of Magic Kaito manga and Movie 27 becomes the actual spotlight of this year, and that the big DC manga stuff simply takes place next year, so it's all really up in the air.

What do you think about Naomi Argento, Nina Balmer, Yelenika Lavrentyeva and what is your opinion about them?
Naomi is pretty much a head-canon for me (that's how much I adored her role in the movie). She was a well rounded and sympathatetic character that you easily like.
Nina hardly got screan-time, so hard to comment on her apart from feeling more sympathy towards Jodie as her friend.
Yelenika was a more unique character who was a lot more grayer morally, but ultimately a very sympathetic character grieving the loss of her child. She is comparable to Curacao on certain aspects of her personality, but with more of an attitude.

Hello, When do you think we will get to see climax of Rum arc. If you have to make any guesses in which file we could see it?
My original estimation was that we would get it in volume 105 (File 1114-1124), since every 5 volumes contained major Rum developments since Rum arc started (volume 85). File 1124 has been officially released (Part 2 of an MPD-Chihaya love story case), marking the end of volume 105, with no Rum climax case (except for a big Muga case :P).
In short, as far as I'm concerned, we have reached completely unknown and unpredictable territory, so I have currently no prediction for when we will get the Rum climax. If there was any type of setup with Rum closing in on Kudo Shinichi (or even Heizuha confession), then I might've had something to work with to make a guess.
We can only hope that next batch of volume chapters (V106: File 1125-1135) contains the Rum climax.

Does Masumi know that Subaru is wearing a mask? She seemed to be aware that he was wearing a mask when she damaged the mask in The Scarlet Bullet and she even asked him about his real identity, but when she met Subaru again in The Antique Tray Can't Be Hidden, she doesn't ask him about his identity, and she doesn't ask him about the mask.
In Movie 24, Masumi was fighting against Subaru in the dark, so she most likely didn't even recognize him as "Okiya Subaru". Even Subaru didn't realize he was fighting Masumi until the light from the outside hit her and she became more visible to him. In other words, even though Masumi damaged Subaru's mask and realized she was fighting someone who was wearing a disguise, it had no consequence to the status quo because she didn't recognize her opponent as Subaru to begin with.

Hi Detective, what did you think of Movie 20?
It had a lot of good concepts going for it, as well as great fanservice ideas, but the way it all came together, the weak reasoning for characters' actions, the sidelining of characters as well as the lack of an actual mystery, made the movie feel like it was somewhat rushingly put together. The only well executed thing was in my opinion Curacao's characterization and her relationship development with the Detective Boys.
There was a lot of initial hype watching the movie because of a lot of new things happening that has never happened before, but upon rewatch, it does feel like cheap unearned fanservice and I wouldn’t put it on my top favorites.

Hey bro, I can't wait to read your analyses of the recent files!! And what do you think will come next year?
File 1119-1122 Review
Tumblr media
While I am unfortunately disappointed by how the previous Heizuha-confession- build-up cases (File 1113-1118) wasn't continued by another Ōoka/Heizuha build-up case, I thought this Kid-heist-turned-into-murder case was overall a very entertaining standalone case, and surprisingly also the first 4-file case in awhile. It was a very nice way to somewhat incorporate Kudo Shinichi into a case without wasting the spare antidote, by having Kid disguise as him (like he did with Sherry during Mystery train case) with Conan's guidance in order to solve the case. This is the first manga case that we see Kid disguise as Shinichi since the manga confirmation (in File 1018) that events within Movie 3 (like Kid figuring out Conan's true identity) is canon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was nice to finally have Hakuba Saguru return after years since his last appearance in the Detective Koshien case (back in Kir arc), and to see him have an indirect meeting with Kudo Shinichi. It was especially exciting to see him come close to not only figuring out that Shinichi is being impersonated by Kid, but also Conan's true connection to Shinichi.
Tumblr media
There was great potential for Hakuba's role in the story if he had learned of Conan's true identity and it could have created an interesting rival-dynamic between them, that would be less friendly than Conan's relationship with Heiji (which ironically would be the anime staff's original intention for Heiji when they requested that Gosho introduces a detective rival). Unfortunately, it amounted to only being a mislead and Hakuba only deducing that Conan relayed Shinichi's words through phone to Kid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While one could still hold out hope that Gosho is playing us further and hiding a future twist that Hakuba only pretended to have not figured it out and decided to protect Conan's secret, it's more likely that Gosho simply decided to properly establish the lines that Hakuba can't cross in DC as a secondary Magic Kaito character and that his involvement in DC will only serve as crossover fanservice rather than anything substantial in the DC story. This is of course disappointing, as he has already made iconic imprints in the DC franchise, and would have gained from getting more spotlight in the DC universe as well (not just MK).
The best part about this case is Shinichi's new affirmations of his feelings for Ran, when they had a cute romantic moment that reasaured Ran that she is still in Shinichi's mind despite avoiding to meet her.
Tumblr media
It did its job in resolving some of my yearning for new ShinRan development since them becoming an official couple.
It was interesting to learn how Gosho is further confirming that some movie-only Kid stunts are also canon, seeing as he had Ran point out that Kid has repeatedly disguised as Shinichi, after she figured out his disguise, despite it being the first time in the manga.
Tumblr media
This is an interesting implication, because in the already canonized events of Movie 3, Ran never learned that the Shinichi that appeared at the end (to help cover for Conan's identity) was Kid in disguise.
Tumblr media
This would mean that Gosho is implying that the Shinichi-disguise stunts in M8, M14, M19 &/or M23 are also semi-canon.
It was only fair of course for Gosho to not tarnish the romantic ShinRan scene in this case by having Hakuba confirm to Ran that it was not meaningless words from Kid, but rather Shinichi's true words.
As for what we can expect from the next case, the official magazine preview for File 1123 was leaked recently that teased that we are getting a Sato-Takagi case combined with the Kanagawa police, which are Chihaya & Juugo (the pair from the recently introduced romance subplot).
Tumblr media
It looks like it will basically be a new Juugo-Chihaya romance case with Sato-Takagi developments on the side, and more potential for Hagiwara and Matsuda to come up in flashbacks. It might be a more action-heavy case as well, seeing as it starts off with a car chase in an abduction case, so it's looking to be an exciting case overall. We can only hope that it leads to some main development, like if Gosho incorporates Furuya Rei into the case (in the spirit of the Wild Police gang), and by extension further build on his last requested mission by Falcon Elder to investigate Conan (File 1115)... or even better, continued developments with Rum.

Hi Detective, what did you think of Movie 26?
Movie 26 (Black Iron Submarine) Review
Tumblr media
Raw feelings:
I'm completely speechless by this movie. It was way beyond any of my minimal expectations. It was extremely good!
I was baffled out of pure disbelief at how much main plot stuff they were revealing in this movie to the point that my brain fried. You could immediately feel that it was a movie you needed to rewatch multiple times in order to fully digest and appreciate its greatness. It was pure fanservice in the best way possible, not the botched M20 way, where fanservice scenes didn't feel earned, mystery being completely gone and main plot/cast characters getting sidelined. Everyone had their moment to shine.
After 15 years, I get a DC movie that finally topped M13 as my new all-time favorite DC movie. I was so thoroughly satisfied that I couldn't help but clap at the end.
Haibara (Sherry)
Haibara truly shined in this movie. Not only did she have proactive role in rescuing herself, Naomi and later Conan, but her personal romantic feelings, childhood past and current relationships with her dear friends were further fleshed out. I was floored by the degree that she got exposed, to the point of the OG antagonist Vodka standing right in front of her next to Pinga, ready to kidnap her, and then later interrogating her about her identity.
Tumblr media
I truly adore how the movie also revealed what started the bullying she went through in America (protecting her fellow half-japanese) and how Naomi's story complimented Haibara's childhood. It was a beautiful touch having Haibara's childhood classmate Naomi realizing Haibara's true identity by the end of the movie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also love how the movie depicted how highly Haibara viewed Conan/Shinichi and his protective reassuring face. It was cute seeing her face light up with happiness when he showed up. I was shocked, but also very appreciative of how respectful she was trying to be of Shinichi's relationship with Ran (more than the fandom clearly) that she went to the degree of passing on her CPR kiss with Conan to Ran.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mizunashi (Kir)
Kir was one of the big standouts in this movie. You could truly feel the shift in spotlight focus between her and Bourbon, seeing as Bourbon was truly put in the backburner for Kir to get more shine, and it was perfectly handled and a true overdue for her (since she has been neglected in the franchise overall). I couldn't stop grinning and appreciate her nonchalant stunts to aid in Haibara's escape by pretending to not know how to open the exit tube in the submarine so Vodka could thoroughly explain it as Haibara overhears everything through the transmitter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I especially loved her less indirect and confrontational move towards Gin, when she directly interferred with his murder attempt of Haibara & Naomi, and how she calmly talked back at Gin when he aimed the gun at her. She was a true badass worthy of her NOC title, that I've longed to see in the series, only to get it in this wonderful movie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pinga
I really enjoyed Pinga's role in the movie as well, and especially appreciated how he wasn't written to be similar to Irish and Curacao (who had a more sympathetic antagonist development) but rather to be a more selfish greedy psychopath with more ambition than Gin, but less talented. It was interesting to learn how he was deep undercover as an engineer for interpol since 5 years back while disguised as a woman.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I especially enjoyed seeing his fights with Ran, and how she became a troublesome enemy for him (giving Ran good spotlight like in M13), as well as how Conan straight up shit-talked to him while giving Gin praise in comparison, to the point of riling Pinga up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vermouth
Vermouth was the true MVP in this movie. She had such a central role in saving Haibara from the organization's suspicion. It was extremely exciting to see Vermouth immediately sensing the potential of Naomi's All-age Recognition System (ARS) and how it could expose the boss identity and whereabouts, but more importantly to her, expose Shinichi's shrinking, that she'd rather keep hidden like a pandora's box. I was shocked and loved how she manipulated the Boss into giving her the order to destroy the ARS for his own sake, when she in reality wanted to not only conceal the current APTX shrinking effects from him, but also protect Shinichi. The way she used her disguising skills to invalidate the ARS' accuracy was just a genius move by her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The biggest surprise to me was how she was revealed to be the old woman from the start in disguise, who was given the sale ticket for a Fusae brand brooch by Haibara out of selfless kindness, and how Vermouth was basically revealed to also be repaying that kindness back to Haibara by protecting her from the BO, further deepening her motivations and multi-faceted nature in such a beautiful way as she gazes at the confused Silver Bullet (Conan) who is questioning them after getting Bourbon's intel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rum & Karasuma Renya
The Biggest shocker in this whole movie was without a doubt the big reveal that Rum, the no.2 of the Black Organization, is unaware of the Boss' whereabouts in recent times and that, apart from having Pinga request Naomi to sell the ARS to them so they can modify it and also use it to erase the BO's activities in security cameras (according the boss' orders), had intended to use the ARS to locate Karasuma Renya (the Boss).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was a huge bombshell reveal, yet to be revealed in the manga, that further clarified the current ongoings within the organization. It basically as good as confirmed that the Boss is hiding a de-aged form from his subordinates (including his very close associate, Rum) and that no one other than Vermouth is aware of his hidden whereabouts. This revelation is further supporting my "Child of seven (Nanatsu no ko)" theory (the Boss being a shrunken 7-year-old who is only contacting his subordinates through phone to hide his child appearance and maintain authority). This also further established a distrustful relationship between Karasuma Renya and Rum, seeing as the Boss has kept Rum out of the loop, and how Rum has persisted to locate the Boss against his wishes, creating a very small divide within the organization's power structure. This is extremely exciting for the future of the series and has gotten me very hyped for what's left of Rum's development in the Rum climax.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Conclusion
This movie was overall a 10/10 product, that gave all the fans outstanding fanservice. Conan's devotion to save Haibara, Ran's supportive contribution to the point of almost getting shot, Agasa's deeply moving heartfelt tears after Haibara's kidnapping, Kuroda's helpful backing of Conan, Bourbon's informational support and Akai's loyal aid in taking down the submarine were all just the tip of the iceberg. All the beautiful callbacks to canon events were also among the best of the fanservice. I especially loved Haibara's callback to how a child (Ayumi) had once changed her life through their actions (File 437), Pisco kidnapping her despite wearing glasses (File 240), Ran reminding Haibara of Akemi (like in File 434), Kir's callback to her father sacrificing himself for her in response to Naomi's cry (File 604) and all the moments Haibara recalled when Conan comforted and moved her (Bus hijack, Haibara intro, Reunion, etc).
Gosho's involvement in the story was clearly noticeable, just by the sheer quality of the movie, and all of his many drawn keyframes were beautiful.

Do you think zero finds out about conans secret, like he is supposed to investigate conan so could that mean he finds out about it?
It's possible, since even if Rei wants to withhold information about Conan from Falcon Elder, he will still have to dig out Conan's background so he can give the elder other information on Conan that doesn't involve his ties to the FBI and BO. This could inadvertently lead to him gaining new hints to Conan's true identity.

Did Aoyama say smth abt the horse of poster m20 being RUM?
He didn't say anything directly about it, but we know it's a reference to the mythical beast in pop-culture called "Nightmare" (inspired by another mythological goblin called "Mare" that gives bad dreams), that is a horse with flaming hair and tail that has its name in movie 20 title: "The Darkest Nightmare".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is however very possible that Gosho chose that name for the movie title as a hidden reference to Rum, if Amanda's knight (horse) piece message has a hidden interpretation that exposes Rum's identity.

Hi MTX, big fan.
Since chapter 1005, we know that Mary decided to switch her plan to instead grabbing the APTX antidote formula from Conan in order to start her counter-attack. Do you believe Mary, or in this case, Sera successfully obtaining the antidote would play a role in the RUM climax, or would that Mary antidote part take place later on in the story?
Hello :)
I initially suspected that she was gonna take the antidote and face her drugger as an adult during Rum climax after she gets ahold of Conan's spare, but after the revelation that Vermouth was her drugger, and how Gosho made Mary and Masumi fail getting it when the perfect opportunity arose, I now suspect that Mary might face her drugger (whenever) without needing the antidote, since the consequence of her facing Vermouth won't be the exposure of APTX4869's shrinking side effect to the BO (since Vermouth is keeping it a secret).
I also have a theory that Mary's coughing side effect is gonna be a factor that makes the prototype antidote work permanently on her:
If my theory on Mary and her tie to the completion of the antidote is true, then it makes more sense that Gosho would have her fail getting the spare antidote and save that reveal for when the complete antidote becomes a more relevant topic,.. during the final/Boss arc.

Hey bro, any thoughts on the latest files with Heiji and the monks? What about that easter egg for the next case, regarding that long lost detective that will be back, is Gosho hinting at Saguru? Or just Shinichi? Do you think the next files could be Rum arc resolution?
File 1116-1118 Review
Tumblr media
I enjoyed the case a lot overall. Already starting from File 1116, Ran was getting a proactive role in the Heizuha romance plot, which I found so refreshing and endearing (since Ran has gotten so sidelined lately).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The whole monk themed case was a such a nostalgia trip as well, and I love how Gosho also gave our other Mouri, Kogoro, a proactive role in the case, showcasing once again his judo moves.
Tumblr media
As for the Heizuha confession build up, that started since File 1113 (Muga shinkansen case), contrary to my expectations, it still didn't pay off in any way, as Heiji once again failed due to forgetfullness (File 118), despite Ran's efforts.
Tumblr media
What however made this quite disappointing was that even the Hyakunin isshu tournament setup from the previous case was also resolved off-screen and didn't remain as a potential plot-thread to a future official confession case setting. However, that very same Momiji scene that resolved the tournament setup also gave a teaser/foreshadowing to Momiji potentially starting to act more actively towards her romantic goals with Heiji. She referenced a Hyakunin isshu poem that bears a similar message to "time is money", where she mentions that time can easily pass by in the blink of an eye if one keeps acting indecisive (File 1118), as if she is planning on officially making her move soon.
Tumblr media
This could be Gosho still building on the confession-anticipation momentum from the this and the previous case, and that the next upcoming case could still tie into the Ōoka/Heizuha subplot in some way as the official confession case approaches. If not, then it will truly feel like Gosho wasted an actual opportunity of building up tension towards an eventual confession.
As for the teaser of a long lost detective finally reappearing in the next case, it does fit with the idea of it being Hakuba Saguru (who fans have kept nagging Gosho about when he will return in DC). This also fits with the AC teaser that he will be drawing a vertical double-spread magazine cover featuring Kid.
Tumblr media
While this may seem as an immediate confirmation that it will be a Kid case and that there will be no further Heizuha/Ooka material in the next case, there is still potential that Gosho is actually planning on intertwining them again, like in Fairy's lips case (File 1018-1021) & Queen's bangs case (If the falcon elder is Former prime minister [FPM] Ōoka). This is due to Gosho also promoting M27, which is a Heizuha-Kid Movie, in the same magazine as the double-spread, and he also teased in another AC that he will be drawing the Naniwa (Osaka) duo in the poster art for M27.
Tumblr media
In other words, there is still hope that Momiji's teaser in the latest chapter bares importance in the following Kid case. Also, if the ongoing speculation that the falcon motif seen with the Falcon elder belongs to the Ōoka family and that they are related to Hakuba Saguru (who has his own Falcon pet) is true, then this upcoming Kid/Hakuba case would further be inviting more Ōoka/Heizuha material (that potentially keeps the Heizuha plot streak going).
While not impossible, these AC teasers does lessen the chance of us getting Rum climax in the upcoming case, unless the teased detective was meant to be Shinichi all along (which I currently feel is unlikely, since Crimson School Trip did not happen too long ago).

Hello, does RUM arc has officially ended? Conan still doesn't know who Rum is, yet three mysterious figures has appeared.. isn't that mean the next arc already started?
Rum arc hasn't ended, since Rum's goal to pursue Shinichi and confirm his deaging suspicions of APTX4869 (so he can potentially revive his photographic eye abilities on his right eye) hasn't been resolved, and as you mentioned, Conan has yet to figure out Rum's true identity. It's not the first time that Gosho has introduced new characters and mysteries (that becomes more relevant in the next arc) ahead of time before resolving ongoing main plots of an arc, so I don't think this is any different.

does conan knows about wild police story squad?
1. he certainly knows about matsuda (sato's former partner) from serial bombing case
2. he knows about wataru date (takagi's mentor) from dangerous broadcasting case & date's notebook case
3. he heard takaaki & yamamura's conversation about hiromitsu (komei's brother) and his possible job in npa
4. he knows furuya's real name, his job in npa and his cover identity as bourbon
5. in chihaya hagiwara's introduction files, jugo yokomizo explained about kenji who died 7 years ago
do you think conan knows those 5 guys are related? and if he does, will it help him for his pursuit for black organization? (considering most of them are dead, and the only member alive is technically still a BO member)
Manga-wise, Conan has yet to learn about the Wild police gang's history, and I don't think him knowing about it would change the current situation with the organization. Their history in WPS is more relevant to Rei's character and motivations, and if anything, I could see Rei relying on his late friends' dear people (Taka'aki, Sato, Takagi, Chihaya) for support against the BO, rather than Conan.

Hello, do you think there exists a counter-organization that was or is being formed to fight the BO or certain members of the BO, but not in the legal way? Just like Erenika's group against Plamya in M25?
I wouldn't say so currently (apart from the official governmental agencies), but I would not mind it if Gosho introduced that kind of group, but only so he can hype up the BO by having them easily destroy that group xD
