Who is Julias?
Julius is one of 4 that can be dubbed The Originals of Disney
Julius first appeared in a series of live action and cartoon mixed shorts called the Alice Comedies, a little girl, would run around in a cartoon world in these shorts. They are the earliest example of Who Framed Roger Rabbit type shenanigans of 2D meeting real life,
However Oswald is usually handed the First title because Julius is quite forgotten,
Hilariously a lot of people used to call him a knockoff of Felix and I will say rightfully so because he was created just a few short years after Felix was, however not by the Fleischer's of course, but by Disney so a lot of people question if Julius is a bootleg of Felix, if Walt Disney was trying to ride off the popularity of Felix the Cat.
Through the public domain and fandom spaces Julius has found a new group of people who love and enjoy him.
With Julius Oswald and Mickey now being in public domain especially his popularity has popped off, and he's becoming the third elder brother to many.

Pete's Bootleg Whiskey
From Alice Solves The Puzzle
The History
Before the Laugh-O-Gram company went under, Disney filmed the pilot for a new cartoon series to pitch to executives in Hollywood, called the Alice Comedies. In it, a real life girl would get sucked into a cartoon world in her dreams, like a then modren day Alice in Wonderland.
The premise was essentially a reversal of the then popular Fleischer shorts, Out of the Inkwell, where a cartoon clown would interact with the real world.
Either way, Disney was able to sell the pilot and thus Walt Disney Studios was born.
Now there were several Alice Comedies to choose from, but I ultimately went with Alice Sloves the Puzzle for two reasons.
The first reason is because this is the first apprance of Pete. Pete is the longest running Disney character in use. Predating Mickey Mouse by a good three years.
The second reason for picking out this particular short is because it's the first time Disney was censored.
See, Pete is a villian, always has been. As such, during the short he sneeks contraband past the authorities. Which includes a bottle of whiskey because this was released during the middle of the Prohibition.
Yes my dear readers, upper middle class soccer moms who don't understand the bloody point have been ruining things for everyone long before Disney graced our screens.
At the time Disney caved into the pressure and cut the scene. Yet there's still a few frames where you can still clearly see the whiskey bottle in Pete's hand. And this was only for the American release. Prints found overseas still have the unedited secene.
The Food
Therefore I've chosen today a simple Proabition Era Whiskey Cocktail, that would have been drunk in speakeasies around the country in 1925, the year that the short was released.
So grab yourself a bottle and rasie a toast in defiance to the current crop of censors badgering us today, as we make a 1920s Highball.
Ingredients
2 ounces whiskey
4 to 6 ounces of club soda
Ice
Cookware
Highball glass, or other similar tall drinking glass
Directions
Fill a highball glass with ice.
Pour the whiskey of your choice into the glass.
Top with club soda. Serve and enjoy.
No need to stir, the carbonation from the soda should mix the drink naturally.
Modern takes on this recipe replaces the club soda with ginger ale and adds a citrus garnish like a lime or lemon wheel. Feel free to experiment, but the above is the classic version.

Other Characters you can legally use for your Mickey Mouse project
Mickey Mouse is in the public domain, as is Minnie Mouse and Peg-leg Pete. There's some caveats to that, and I talk about that more in this other post, but for now, let's talk about other characters who you can also use to fill out the cast.
These characters should all be in the public domain, though some characters still have treademarks. I'll get into how to use them safely as we go. Anyways, let's start.
Other Disney Characters
Disney obvciously doesn't advertise this, but there's actually quite a few Disney originals who've actually been in the public domain for a while.
The Mad Doctor never had it's copyright renewed, and so it's very technically the first Mickey Mouse cartoon to enter the public domain. Keep in mind, the version of Pluto featured in the short isn't in the domain just yet, but the Doctor himself is free to use.
What's funny is that Disney would later use a version of Doctor for Epic Mickey. Obviously don't use that version of the character.
Aside from the Mad Doctor, we also have Oswald and Ortensia
Yeah, as it turns out, Oswald's been in the public domain for quite a while, but he's still trademarked by Disney. Easy recommendation... use the original "fat" design of the character and have him go by Lucky.
But before Oswald, we have the Alice Comedies
Everything about the Alice Comedies is Public Domain for a long time, and the Disney corporation very rarely acknowlege these characters existence. Which is a shame because These shorts were some of the first shorts Walt ever produced, and they have the unique gimmick of featuring a live action girl in an animated world.
Everybody already knows about Oswald, but nobody talks about Oswald and Mickey's older brother from these shorts, Julius the Cat
Like... yeah no, it didn't all start with a mouse. Or a rabbit. It started with a cat.
Foxy and Milton Mouse
Both Foxy (top) and Milton (bottom, pictured with his girlfriend Rita Mouse) were characters created by Warner Brothers and Van Beuren respectively to cash in on Mickey's success, and both characters are also in the public domain.
In fact, all Van Beuren cartoons are apparently in the public domain, and I encourage you to find their cartoons and use them as you please.
Fleischer Characters
Betty Boop is probably in the Public Domain, but there's a few caveats with this. From what I can tell, the name Betty Boop is trademarked, but the character herself isn't. Most of the old Betty Cartoons are free to use, but newer incarnations, including the versions used in 1985's The Romance of Betty Boop and 1989's The Betty Boop Movie Mystery are still very much under copyright.
To avoid any legal trouble, I have two big recommendations. Although everybody remembers Betty as having Black hair, in one of the few early instances of Betty being shown in color, she's actually depicted as Redhead.
This is Betty Boop in 1934's Poor Cinderella, and her hair color is pretty clearly red.
The other option is to just make her black.
Though there's been some debate as to whether Betty Boop was intentionally modeled after Esther Lee Jones or not, there's still no denying the influence of Jazz on the character. Betty Boop is a Jazz singer and is often depicted dancing to Cab Calloway. Hell, the Betty Boop musical features Jasmine Amy Rogers as the titular character.
Betty Boop aside, there's an entire world of defunct Betty Boop characters who are definately public domain, including Bimbo and Koko the Clown.
Next year, Popeye's also gonna enter the Domain. So keep an eye out for him too.
Anyways, these are my picks, but obviously this list isn't meant to be comprehensive. There's a ton of old cartoon characters out there who can be freely reinterpreted into newer works. Feel free to add your own favorite public domain cartoon to the list.

A couple of months ago, I got shown around her school and I saw her in a computer room, doing her lessons. I thought she looked a bit sad. So, to cheer her up, I started this blog. At first, we did harmless little pranks like illegally hacking the school's devices and locking people in rooms, but soon, it escalated to seriously injuring and assaulting people with the use of mob mentality, arson, fireworks, illegal attacks, terrorism and more. My childhood best friend got injured during one of these pranks. Then, as a big finale, we burnt down the school, and this almost killed my childhood best friend and her boyfriend (18 M). My childhood best friend also tried to kill herself, and these pranks were a major factor as to why. But, it was only because I had a crush on her, and she looked a bit sad. Oh, and afterwards, I hooked up with her best friend because I realised I didn't even have a crush on her anymore. So, please tell me... AITA?"
