park yeonjin in present era works as a weatherwoman. well known, established, renowned. wealthy, classy, and elegant. has a young daughter whom she dotes on and a husband she couldn't be happier to have. her life is sparkling and clean and everything a person could want. but she hides an ugly past and wears a mask that has been super - glued on for the sake of blending into society. park yeonjin as a teenager was the devil incarnate, taking advantage of her mother's wealth, power, and influence to dish out violence to whomever she wanted to. yeonjin cared about nobody and dealt with her boredom in cruel, unorthodox manners. with a small group of friends who followed her every step, she terrorized her targets at school to do her bidding ( and to simply provide herself with entertainment ). if anyone knew, they wouldn't say it. if anyone dared to tell on her, they would regret it. park yeonjin always got her way.
although her cohorts had been with her for most activities, she hides the truth of one of their victims — she was the cause of yoon sohee's death, of which had been ruled a suicide.
as an adult, yeonjin had grown more skillful at hiding her true self and presents herself as the charming, kind wife and philanthropist. even with her position at the weather channel, she exploits younger assistants to write her scripts for her and uses fear to maintain control over younger, ambitious co - workers seeking to replace her.
her body count is one and a half, but that's only if we're counting literal deaths. she's snuffed out far more spirits than that.
HOW TO WRITE WITH YEONJIN:
your muse would never know that she was a bully in high school. your muse would never know that she killed someone in high school or that she nearly killed someone as an adult. yeonjin is an expert at acting and playing a role. she's charming, funny, gentle, down - to - earth. she would be a good friend at first. she's incredibly fake though so it would make sense for your muse to be put off by it or sense that something is off. she could've been an enemy during high school or college or even during her early career days but in a ' shielded ' manner so it's not so scandalous as being labelled a bully. yeonjin also has connections in high places, mostly due to her mom, so that's an option. anything could work tbh !

Goldie stood there in shock before struggling to try to get the mud off. It was a fruitless effort, however, she got the idea. Doc was breaking up with her.
Originally, she was hoping it was some kind of message to stay away from the mines, but she supposed they just weren’t meant to be. Doc was a kind and generous man who deserved the world but never took more than he needed. She was an infamous miner who once stole from the Richest Duck in the world. Story of her life, it was fine.
The old woman then took a deep breath before going back inside, putting the paper on her table to let it dry. In a desperate last stand to hopefully hear words that she was wrong about, she left Doc a message on his phone about the letter and what had happened, sent a same day letter inquiring if he was breaking up with her or what his message was (probably a break up, she thought to herself).
Once the hen had finished all that, she simply walked to her room and fell onto her bed, finally bursting into tears on her pillows. She knew no one could ever love her, but for once she got her hopes up! Guess a golden girl like me isn’t meant for love, she thought to herself as she drifted into a fitful slumber.

Hey everyone! My name's Rose, very nice to meet you! A little info on myself -- I am Mexican-Honduran, I live in the American Eastern timezone, and have been roleplaying for the past six/seven years. Sam will bend and twist the truth to his advantage. He enlists the help of his friends from the other side as well as his background in divination to know things (secrets and personalities) about certain people. I will reach out to you in case the situation ever arises. He is a practitioner of hoodoo.
I personally also share similar spiritual practices (I practice a form of paganism!), have many friends who have practiced this and other forms of spirituality for years, life long friends from the Baton Rouge area, as well as extensive research of hoodoo under my belt -- I intend to portray Sam and his culture in the most respectful manner possible. 17. Physical Description. Kaede’s hair is rather long and layered, so it tends to sit in a boyish, fly-away sort of way. It’s a dark violet shade - or, pretentiously, midnight - and incredibly soft to the touch. The lighter, floral blue of his eyes contrasts nicely with his hair. More often than not, he prefers to wear it down, as he feels the style compliments his overall style; His typical outfit (for work-related things) consists of a modified white & light blue haori, black sleeveless turtleneck, modified harem pants, and no shoes. His body is slim with some light toning and he stands at a rough 5'5". His skin is somewhat unusually pale, denoting a lack of sleep and improper nutrition. He wears a crimson jade hip ornament said to have healing properties. He has an abundance of barely-there freckles all over his body and both self-harm & combat scars, a large gash across his throat and a few on each of his thighs - and many more on his arms, front, and back; Also has a birthmark under his right buttcheek. There is a surgical scar on his right hip caused by a near-ruinous injury and the surgery that followed. On each ear, his lobes are pierced, as well as two cuffs and and industrial on his right ear. 25. Personality. Kaede has some difficulty forming relationships with other people and is generally very slow to start. Incidentally, this frees up a lot of his time, so he pours nearly all his focus into his work. He’s incredibly flawed in some aspects of his reasoning and decision-making, despite his intelligence, having assigned an arbitrary amount of blame to himself for past failures, perceived or not. He’s the small and silent type, with a spoonful of emotional baggage and social ineptitude. Though he comes off as cold and formal at times, he has a mischievous streak and can be rather playful under the right conditions. He can also be sweet and somewhat boyish, though he’s mostly a bit bratty and hardheaded. He’s a sensitive soul at the end of the day, riddled with trauma responses and other behaviors resulting from years upon years of emotional, mental, and physical abuses - where the bulk of his trust and mental health issues stem from. On July 31st, 1998, then-head of the Shikabane Clan, Taisho, called for a family reunion, expressing distressed urgency in all communications. Confused and concerned, family members from all over funneled into the clan compound. When asked, Taisho would not explain himself, insisting he had important things to discuss with the branch heads - and it was a good opportunity for the family to get together again, one last time. The impromptu banquet proceeded normally, confused whispering among the clan. Taisho ushered the branch heads into some private back room, leaving the rest of the family - including women and children - in the dining hall. Terin (8) and Kaede (6) were playing with Aoi (7) and the rest of their cousins, blissfully ignorant to the trouble brewing within the depths of the estate.
Approximately 2 hours after the banquet began, a blood-curdling scream tore through the dining hall. There, lying face-down in a pool of her own blood and internal organs, was Kusabi (3rd branch head). Suddenly, Aoi’s parents, seated beside the children, had lost their heads, a fountain of blood spewing across the table. Within moments, the bloodshed soared to impossible heights, blood and flesh splattering across the walls and puddling on the floor. Panic broke out - even the clan’s strongest were lost. The children hid underneath the table, listening in stunned horror to the sickening squelch of everyone they knew being eaten and torn apart by experimental abominations. They huddled together and cried as any children would, frozen stock-still as 61 members of their family were slaughtered around them.
Taisho eventually joined in the massacre himself, finishing off any stragglers with maddened glee. He killed 5 more children, including Tsubaki (13), Tatsuki (11), Kanda (9), Tenko (7), and Junko (8). Then he killed Ayato, Sanada, and both the next head, Shichi, and the 2nd branch head, Zenchou. Ultimately, the magical abominations he unleashed upon his clan turned on him and fed from his corpse - only then did the blood sacrifice he set in motion go into effect, but he couldn’t keep the power he sought to claim. The remaining Shikabane soon found their bearings and exterminated all abominations they could find - but unbeknownst to them, one had gotten away.
It was later discovered that the heads of the branch families and the next clan head were plotting to eliminate Taisho, who had become extremely mentally unwell in his old age. In a desperate vie for the power to remain head, Taisho planned to sacrifice 60+ members of his own family in a complicated-but-straightforward ritual - hand their lives to Sanguinach in exchange.
In the years since the Shikabane Massacre, Kaede, Terin, and Aoi were taken in by Kurai, who took over as acting head. The children attended Chimachi Prefectural, but Kaede surpassed Aoi & Terin quickly. When he reached adulthood, Kurai handed the role of clan head to Kaede. Upon forging an unbreakable pact with a youkai, Kaede took over, sacrificing his very soul to rebuild it, protect Terin and Aoi, and ensure the safety of nightfolk across the globe. He proved himself a talented sorcerer by INC standards and was recruited forthwith as an Enforcer (civil law officer) - he rose up in the ranks fairly swiftly here, as well, eventually being scouted by the Retributors and losing his choice in the matter.

Pragmatic and resourceful, Luocha is a polite man who keeps his cards close to his chest. Despite the air of nobility he holds, he insists he is but a simple traveling merchant. Whether you wish to believe that, is up to you.
He keeps his interactions with anyone polite and courteous, a gentleman at his core. There are few things that bother him, having had many experiences across the universe with many different people. Life is something precious to him, even something as insignificant as a flower can compel his pity, using his medical skills whenever he comes across someone in need.
Luocha is a man of many masks.The one he decides to use, differs from person to person. He’s observant and has a keen eye for detail, which he actively uses to his advantage. Whichever mask benefits him in the moment, will be the one he plays the part of. Very few get to witness his true nature.
At his core, he is incredibly picky and hold high standards for himself, and the wares he decides to peddle. He holds a disdain for those who hold blind faith in higher powers, falling into complacency for their fate rather than taking hold of it themselves. He keeps true to his oaths, and remembers the past diligently, lest history be allowed to repeat itself once more. There is more that meets the eye for this wanderer, and only time can reveal his hidden truths.

what made you decide to ship Astor with Vox and Arackniss? What happened to Pentious?
//Well, first of all, I am multiverse/multiship and Pentious is still here and still very much with Astor and Astor still very much loves his snek so, don't worry about that. Shadowsnake lives on here!
What drew me to Vox initially, was the fact Astor was naive and easily smitten. Vox could have taken advantage of this with just a few words of encouragement/compliments and gotten close to Astor and gotten himself an in with getting near Alastor (For those that follow the Vox wanting Al's attention line anyway).
Now a days what draws me to Vox as a ship with Astor is basically a lazy mans enemies to lovers. Astor picks on and bullies Vox because Vox is the only one that throws it back at him and Astor likes someone that can take his shit and throw it back at him without it visibly getting to them.
What drew me to Arackniss was Astor being friends with Angel and getting the crush on his bestfriends older brother cliche (Because he won't ship with Angel and I think it's because they're too similar with smiling through the pain/hiding what's really going on with them with an obnoxious enthusiasm.). Also Astor being the sunshine to Niss' grump is just very cute to me. Of course this ship is not easy because Astor doesn't have a regular way of running into Niss with Angel and the fam hardly speaking but that doesn't stop Astor from having the feels for Niss lol

Not that I owe you trolls an explanation but here’s why I think your opinions are bullshit;
1. “Taylor Kelly has no character development and she took advantage of Buck in a vulnerable state like the therapist from season one.”
— Character development that doesn’t happen on screen is still character development. There is major character development in her character but she’s a threat to your ship so you’re just going to ignore the fact that she’s not after a story anymore. People who liked her when she was friendzoning Buck but went back to hating her the second she kissed him and using that excuse that she has no character development? You only hate her because it threatens Buddie’s chance of being canon, not because there’s no character development and she took advantage of Buck. She did not take advantage of him and I can guarantee you that if Eddie were to kiss Buck in a vulnerable state, you’d all be screaming and give absolutely no fucks that Buck was in a vulnerable state.
2. “Buck is the only person valid in the lawsuit and he had every right.”
— Okay, but he really didn’t. According to NFPA 1582, having a clotting disorder is a Category A disorder which automatically disqualifies you as a firefighter. Buck’s doctor states he believes the screws in his leg was what was causing the clotting, therefore Buck really should not have been allowed back on active duty before the screws were out and he was officially off of blood thinners with no negative side effects. Refusing to watch anything to do with the lawsuit, I can’t remember if Buck was suing for wrongful termination or something else... but assuming right now that he was suing for wrongful termination, it’s not correct. They did not terminate his employment in the LAFD, Buck quit. Everyone involved in the crossfire of this lawsuit had every right to feel hurt at Buck’s actions, especially after the deeply personal shit Buck naively (keyword: naively) told his lawyer. The whole arc was complete bullshit but Buck is not innocent in it all.
3. “It’s not possible to ship Buck with Eddie and with Taylor.”
— Fuck that, it’s a matter of opinion not fact so stop stating it like a fact. Multiship exists, people. This one is just so stupid.
4. “Maddie was emotionally abusive. Eddie is violent and abusive.”
— What fucking show are you watching? Because it cannot be the same show that I watch. Maddie being told to keep a secret her parents had no right to ask of her and keeping it does not make her abusive. I’m so fucking tired of seeing the way people throw the word abuse around. Especially since Maddie is legitimately a victim of domestic abuse. She is a good fucking sister, loves him unconditionally unlike their fucking parents. You don’t know what happened in the three years she cut contact so saying her cutting contact is being abusive is so fucking stupid and out there. Onto Eddie — it has been stated how fucking out of character the street fighting was for him. He was put through the fucking wringer between 2x17 when his wife died and 3x08. Anger is a fucking valid reaction to the shit Eddie has been put through and to put something so out of character for Eddie and make it worse for your favorite makes absolutely no sense and it’s fucking stupid. Eddie deserves better. He’s an amazing dad and loyal friend and has been through hell. You wanna talk about the PTSD Buck definitely has? That’s fine, but don’t say Eddie doesn’t have any right to be angry too when he literally has canonical PTSD? It’s not a competition, people. Trauma is not a fucking competition so stop treating it like it is and erasing character’s traumas to multiply your fave’s own trauma.

Thank you so much for this ask! I'm in the most multishipping random assortment of fandoms right now so here you get three completely unrelated and hilariously untenable pairings:
Hickey/Crozier: My first impulse is "handies and blowies" but really I think Hickey's imagination of how their relationship is going to go before it really goes off the rails is all about building an advantageous rapport with Crozier. I feel like Hickey is incredible at cards but there's probably a bit of a gap between what he's playing for fun/to fleece his friends and what Crozier plays for fun... though given Crozier's a career Navy dude, maybe not? If they had to overwinter together alone in some kind of last-two-survivors/separated-from-the-crew situation I feel like Hickey would be really pretty engaged with Crozier's own life story as Francis himself narrates it, even if he's interpreting it through his own "wow, we're totally soulmates" lens. Also telling Crozier all about his favorite cold-weather city foods like pea soup and eels while Crozier grudgingly tries to catch a seal for dinner.
Richard II/Anne of Bohemia: These two definitely have the most robust winter blahs programming and I think some of it is how spread out the medieval European Christmas season could get -- especially Epiphany, since that's also Richard's birthday. It's still a cold, bleak time of year in this hemisphere though, especially with stone floors, so I feel like they get through it via communal storytelling, fur-lined everything, and co-sleeping. The traditional labors of the months have January marked out for feasting (for rich people at least) and chopping wood/spinning wool/desperately trying to avoid going outside to pee (for normal people -- no kidding about that last one, the Hennessey Hours have some great sneaky peeing) but I feel like there's only so much feasting and socialization you can do especially as a courtly couple, so I picture some judicious retreating together and being as antisocial as possible in their position.
Phil Burbank/Peter Gordon: Figuring out what they'd do on the ranch during the winter season is my obsession. There's a really wonderful fic (tentaclemonster's "sole focus") where Peter contrives for him and Phil to spend the Christmas holiday together alone, and it's got me really thinking about what Phil does all winter when he's out there just like, not bathing and everything. (It sounds like winter in cattle ranching is a big season for the kind of repairs and preparatory work there's not time for otherwise, but you're also keeping everything fed and apparently cattle are fucking??? And some places have winter calves???? Listen, I don't know the first thing about cattle, but I fucking love the idea of surprise calves.) So if they both survive til then and Peter's back from college it's a very different daily rhythym -- Phil's pissy and stir-crazy, while I do think Peter would be perfectly happy to just lock himself up with his books until it's time to head back to school, and that makes for a perfect time to either genuinely bond over a shared activity Peter can find proficiency in or get locked in an absolutely insane battle of wills while everyone else in the household is desperately just trying to have a nice Christmas. Both of which are just perfect for me.

Hi, I made a new animatic this time with miraculous ladybug but according to me what must happened to Kagami and Adrien's relationship.
Those are two of my favorite characters and I don't see them as a couple because they really seem like close friends or almost brothers.
The song reminded me a lot of these two and their relationship and I'm also a multishiper so I was able to take advantage of it.
Marinette running towards the final part of Kagami is just that Marinette being blind to the romantic declaration situation, not bad intentions.
Lastly, I think Adrien and Kagami (not to mention almost every character) deserve better writing treatment as the (probably traumatized) teens that they are.

That Scene
Yes, this is about Roswell New Mexico 02x06. And I will preface by saying that I dislike the scene. That I view certain actions and motivations in it negatively. That I find the consent dubious at best. So if you're looking for someone to defend this scene, this is not the post for you.
Usually when I write meta or thoughts, I write it by trying to understand the viewpoint of the characters involved. I like to understand how a character got from point A to point B. And yes, objectively, it’s because the author wanted them to. But I like for things to be logical in my fictional worlds. I like there to be an explanation for why a character behaves the way they do. I like to see cause and effect in the stories I consume. So usually I write meta in an attempt to make sense of the story as it is presented.
I’m not going to do that this time.
This is going to be more a set of bullet points from the viewpoint of a consumer of fiction, a writer, and someone in fandom spaces.
So here we go.
What this is not about. (Yes, I feel the need to precede with that.)
It's not about there being a threesome, or a potential poly relationship, in a work of fiction. I have consumed multiple works with both. My objecting to this specific scenario has nothing to do with that.
It is not about gender. Believe me, if you genderswap these characters it will not help the situation at all in my eyes. Nor my opinion on the objectionable actions of certain characters.
This is not about ships. I personally am perfectly capable of multishipping, jumping ships, and even being sold on ships I never imagined by good writing.
So what does bother me about this scene?
For starters, a lack of communication of interest in this occurring at all by the parties involved prior to it happening, which made the situation extremely jarring for me as a viewer.
And, no, Alex discussing that he was comfortable touching Maria over a decade prior while living in an abusive household as a teenager definitely doesn't count as "prior interest."
Do you honestly think who you potentially were okay with being touched by ten years ago counts as some kind of consent for them to touch you in the present? Who you were potentially okay with touching you ten days ago doesn't even count for present consent, let alone ten years.
So the lack of any prior conversation before Maria decided to kiss her gay friend and proposition him is very much an issue for me because it seems extremely disrespectful. As a lesbian the last thing I would ever expect to have to do is explain to my straight male friend I've known for years that I don't want to have sex with him. He should be aware of that without my having to explain it. And the same is very much true for Maria's character.
Maria knows Alex is gay. She is very aware of the fact he has no sexual interest in her. I can't even wrap my brain around the concept of why it would ever occur to her to randomly ask her friend for sex in the first place, let alone to kiss or touch him in a sexual way without asking first.
This is all before considering the fact that Alex is injured and currently has no vehicle to leave the premises with. Which means to leave he has to walk all the way home - or at least to the nearest bus if Roswell has dependable public transport - on a leg that is no doubt causing him pain considering what they just lived through.
If Alex was an injured female with no vehicle to leave with, would you really think it was okay for one of the two people with her to proposition her for sex? Because I wouldn't. And Alex being a male character doesn't change that for me.
Maria kissing him after asking him to stay comes across very manipulative, and Alex agreeing to stay under the circumstances does not come across as "enthusiastic consent" at all in my eyes.
This is before even bringing in the situation between Maria and Michael. I really wish people would stop saying Maria is his girlfriend in this scene - she definitely is not. She kicked him out between four to six weeks ago and hasn't spoken to him since. They weren't even in a committed relationship at that time. Now? Maria actually has no claim on him at this moment at all. So truthfully, she actually has no right to be kissing him either.
Considering Maria went off on Michael kissing Lindsey in front of her, to the point of bringing it up again when Michael came back to her, how is it okay for her to kiss Michael in front of Alex? How is that not supposed to read as anything but petty and an act of jealousy, considering it occurs in the scene right after Michael addresses how important Alex is to him for the first time in front of her? ("Both of you" meaning Maria is not above Alex in his affections. Which is the first confirmation Maria has that Alex's feelings for Michael are not one sided.)
Then there's the fact that she literally told Michael "No Lindseys" when they were previously getting together, meaning she expected him to be monogamous. So why is she allowed to bring Alex into their sexual relationship?
And why is it okay for her to assume Michael wants her back, with no conversation about why they broke up to begin with? And then request he not only have sex with her, but engage in a threesome before confirming their relationship and with no prior discussion about sexual boundaries or if this is something Michael would even want to participate in?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't we told that Michael allowing Alex constantly back into his life after they broke up was bad? Weren't we told the fact that they kept having sex without communication a red neon sign for an unhealthy relationship? (And honestly, yes, it was, which is why I was fine with them saying that.)
How am I supposed to view Maria and Michael as healthy when she not only does the same thing, but takes it a step further and asks him to have sex with her and his ex he still has feelings for without even talking about why she cut him out of her life for weeks first?
My next problem is the morning after scene for a multitude of reasons.
If Alex's consent was so enthusiastic, why is he written as so upset over the whole thing the next day - to the point of referring to it as "what circle of hell am I in?"
Why does Michael seek out Alex to ask if they've crossed a line if he felt "loved" the previous evening? And considering the show's habit of visual clues, why is he dressed in black as opposed to the soft white shirt of the previous day?
And why does Maria listening in at the window next to her - seeing as she knew Alex had left and wouldn't have known otherwise - not feel a need to check up on the friend who sounds upset when she was the one to ask him into her bed? But instead, stays in bed and demands Michael choose between them right then?
I'm sorry, but all of this comes across as very bad to me. And especially bad for Maria, who ends up reading as jealous, petty, and manipulative.
It's not so great for Michael who seems either dense or insensitive when it comes to Alex's clear unhappiness the next day.
And how am I supposed to view it as anything but Alex being taken advantage of, regardless of how you interpret the original consent, when he ends up alone with neither of the people he shared a bed with the previous evening seeming to give a damn that he's upset?
If I had a hope in hell of any of this being addressed, I would perhaps feel less like somebody shoved in a handful of scenes they wrote while on drugs in the middle of a perfectly normal episode. Considering you could literally chop both scenes out and nothing would change tells me the scene has absolutely no value as written.
The bottom line is that all these factors were completely ignored and the scene itself will never even be brought up again because this is CW, and all they wanted was a big sex scene. And that is all it was.
I'm tired of hearing "but it was for comfort."
Considering I didn't see Maria having random sex with Liz any time over the last two seasons when either needed comfort, nor did I see a threesome between Alex, Kyle, and Michael after nearly being blown up at Caulfield, the notion that this is about comfort is such a pathetic excuse.
It was sex. Period.
It was for shock value and ratings. Period.
It was poor writing. Period.

Sexuality HC: at first at saw her as aro since she was the only character who didn’t have a romantic relationship and kinda didn’t seem interested in one so yeh and I really liked it since giving her a romantic interest would’ve seem kinda forced.
Favorite ship: ahsjayhsus Tokka (older) or Taang(but also a little older) hehe the advantages of being a multishiper.

How I feel about this character:
Finrod: charming slutty blond twink with a heart of gold. maybe that’s too much fanon and not enough canon but you can tear that characterization from my cold dead hands tbh. like yes this is King “I Killed A Werewolf With Nothing But My Teeth And The Power Of Love” but he’s also Prince “I Rap Battled With Sauron And Lost” and Lord “I Befriended Men and Dwarves Before It Was Cool”
Angrod: of all his siblings i think he’s the most… Angry Boy. he has a temper, but he’s also married with a kid (I subscribe to the Orodreth Angrodion version of canon). i think he’s the ‘oh my god why can’t any of you be NORMAL’ brother. BOTH his mother name and his father name are derived from the word for ‘iron’ - he’s got an iron personality, very strong-willed and stubborn. i also hc that he’s the only arafinwean who has Earwen’s silver hair.
Aegnor: a hopeless romantic. the dreamiest arafinwion (and that’s including artanis!). very particular about his hair (which is a WILD canon detail that i love sjdfhdk) but also has terrible fashion. his head’s always in the clouds, he’s a daydreamer, but he’s also incredibly loyal and a really good friend. he almost always listens to his heart over his head - and the fact that he and andreth never marry is the One Time he listened to logic over emotion, and that haunts him forever.
Galadriel: almost as much of a genius as Feanor and almost as humble about it, which is to say, not at all. she’s proud and stubborn and full of herself, especially in her youth - she’s also gorgeous and smart and right a lot of the time, which doesn’t help her ego. by the time she’s become Lady of Lothlorien she’s been through a lot and is much more humble and wise, but i think that comes not just from her experiences but also from being married to Celeborn the Wise. i think he balances her out very well tbh. (my favorite Galadriel characterization EVER is from this fic by @nerdanelparmandil, check it out!!)
All the people I ship romantically with this character
Finrod: I ship Finrod with anything that moves tbh….. I see him as super super gay, he and Amarie were mutual beards which is why she didn’t follow him to Endore. i am a Known Slut for Finrod/Turgon in particular, they’re kind of endgame for me, but also @raisingcain-onceagain has converted me to Finrod/Edrahil!! And while the Nargothrond Disaster Trio are in no way shape or form HEALTHY, i really really enjoy Celegorm/Curufin/Finrod content, that dynamic is delicious. i can also get down on Maedhros/Fingon/Finrod, though not really in a serious way. PLUS Finrod/Beor is very good, as is Finrod/Barahir and Finrod/Beren(/Luthien if we’re feeling spicy), and you KNOW he got busy with some dwarves! I just think he’s very free with his feelings and desires, especially after coming to Beleriand, and he takes full advantage of his freedom and position of authority to get what he wants. (not necessarily in a weird power dynamics way, though he’s into that kind of kinky shit too probably, i mean more in ‘it’s my kingdom i get to make the rules and i say No Homophobia and No Slutshaming’) - and I’m super happy to multiship with Finrod, there are verses where he’s fucking everyone and verses where he’s pining over Turgon and verses where he never even thinks about anyone other than Edrahil and etc etc etc. there’s probably even verses where he and Sauron get up to some funky shit!
Angrod: I don’t have a lot of headcanons about him and Eldalote. She has a Sindarin name, so maybe she came with him to Middle-earth - or maybe not, and he just missed her so much that he wouldn’t shut up about her and so her name was Sindarized to Edhellos. Either way I think they had a very strong relationship that ended in tragedy one way or another. I’ve also seen some fun Angrod/Caranthir enemies-to-lovers stuff, which I can get into, but I think Caranthir is aro so it’s not really my main hc.
Aegnor: i mean how can you NOT ship him and Andreth??? that relationship is just….so tragic and heartbreaking and beautiful. I like the theory that Gil-galad was their child, and he was given to Orodreth to raise because Andreth couldn’t care for an elfling and Aegnor couldn’t publicly claim a son out of wedlock. But also verses where they are just tragically pining after one another are beautiful in their own way. My headcanon is that the thing keeping them apart was less about the war going on and more about Aegnor fearing to lose her - but then he actually dies before her, and Andreth has to live with that pain. (idk if that works out timeline wise but. yeah)
Galadriel: Meladriel is very good and I enjoy that - I’ve also seen some great Galadriel/Luthien and even a Galadriel/Feanor fic I enjoyed. BUT overall i really love that she chose to marry Celeborn, a wise “dark elf” even when she’s completely out of his league - he balances her very well, and I don’t buy depictions of her walking all over him. she cares about him and he’s really good for her!
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Finrod: I ship Finrod/Turgon but also WHAT a great friendship they have!! I love that they go adventuring together :) And Finrod, Maedhros, and Fingon are so fun to imagine growing up together! Plus there’s his relationship with his nephew Orodreth, who he clearly adores, and also the fact that he’s still buddies with the Feanorians even after the first kinslaying (at Alqualonde! his home! where his mom is from!) and he’s so excited to meet new people from the Sindar to the Edain to the Dwarves. Finrod’s just EVERYONE’S friend and i appreciate that!!
Angrod: ….what if he and Caranthir used to be really close, like they are similar ages and grew up together, but then Something Happened and they started hating each other later on. that would be Very fun. also, he and Aegnor were lords together over the same land and died together, which implies they were very close - close like Celegorm and Curufin!
Aegnor: Again, he and Angrod were Best Bros which is great. I also think he’s probably beloved by Andreth’s people, he’s just this huge elf man they all kind of adopted and he’s so honored that they love him so much!
Galadriel: Melian!! obviously!! she stayed in Doriath specifically to learn from her, which is super neat. and then Gandalf in the later ages, i love whatever they have going on in the movies especially. i also think she and Celebrimbor had a weird rival-friendship i the second age, they’re both geniuses but from opposite sides of the family feud…except the family feud has killed pretty much everyone BUT them, so they come together to mourn that.
My unpopular opinion about this character
(this turned into more of ‘what are their negative personality traits’ than ‘unpopular opinions’ but whatever…)
Finrod: i’m sure he did his best but….when he was king of nargothrond he was still gallivanting all over the place. orodreth was probably More In Charge from before he was officially king…
Angrod: he’s a grade-A asshole. just a dick. mean as shit and holds grudges forever. really annoying to be around.
Aegnor: a dumbass. always listens to his heart and gets in trouble for it, until the one time he listens to his head and regrets it forever.
Galadriel: would make an EXCELLENT villain. ‘all shall love me and despair’ ? come on yall. if it had been HER versus sauron instead of Finrod (and…considering she was probably friends with Luthien, it very well could have been) i think she may have won, and im just imagining Sauron working for her, and the second and third ages going very differently with her being a Queen who everyone loves until they look back and realize she’s been corrupted and turned evil.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
so i think canon did mostly a good job with them SO some of these are some AUs!!!
Finrod: …if he had managed to convince Celegorm and Curufin to help with the Silmaril quest–the war could have ended before the Nirnaeth, maybe. or at least gone very differently.
Angrod: im gonna physically fight tolkien over giving us practically NOTHING on the wives of various characters - tell me more about Eldalote you coward!!!!
Aegnor: JUST MARRY ANDRETH PLEASE. i’m a slut for interspecies relationships and the fact that this one is male elf/female human is SO good and frankly unprecedented in Tolkien’s works. PLEASE i need more!!!

Naruto fandom dynamics on FF.NET and AO3
After digging into Sakura’s shipping stats for MadaSaku Weekend, more questions emerged than were answered (It’s usually like that in science. And apparently as well in this “science” that I’m playing at in here).
The next thing that interested me was the dynamics of ship popularity, i.e. which ship was popular at what period of time. That would be fascinating to know if and how events in canon influenced the writers. I measured ship “popularity”, again, only by fic creation rate. (I think I might have also found a way of assessing the readers’ side of the coin. But that’s for later.)
But, before one assesses ship popularity, one needs a reference. A bare number of fics produced for a given pairing per year won’t tell us much if we don’t know how many fics were produced in general during that year. So, as a side-product of my great Sakura Multishipping Analysis Project (That’s a name. I came up with it right now and I will be using it from now on. Lol) I collected total numbers of fics published on FF.NET and AO3 over the years.
And since I am not aware of any current analysis of Naruto fandom dynamics (the only one I know is this great analysis of @toastystats from 2014) I thought that it would be interesting and maybe relevant for us to take a look into it.
So, let’s dive in!
Methods
I collected the data browsing through both archives. AO3 by default shows all available fics. Filters in FF.NET were set to display all Ratings (not Rating K -> T as in default). Fics were sorted by Publish Date in both archives.
I browsed through the archives and took note which consecutive page of the archive featured a first appearance of a “new” year as a Publish Date of the fic on the top of the page (see Figure 1).
In the example illustrated in Figure 1. the first fic on the page 806 was published on 01.01.2018. The first fic on the page 807 was published on 31.12.2017. Page 807 was defined as the first page of 2017. Independently on how many fics published in 2017 could be found on the page 806, page 806 was still counted as “belonging” to the year 2018. Such simplified approach was necessary for streamlining of data collection.
Data collection was performed similarly on AO3. However, AO3 displays Publish Date only in the body on the fic (when browsing the archive, only Update Dates are visible, and those are different than Publish Dates for most of multichapter stories). Therefore, manual inspection of fics on the top of the pages was often necessary.
After identifying all “first” pages for every year, I calculated (via simple subtraction) how many pages of fics were produced per year. FF.NET displays 25 fics per page, AO3 – 20 fics, therefore the number of pages per year was multiplied by 25 for FF.NET and by 20 for AO3 to obtain the number of fics published in a given year.
Analogical approach was employed to examine the number of fics produced per month (the page number with first appearance of “new” month on top was noted) for the years 2018 and 2019, to gain more insight into details of fandom dynamics in most recent times.
Limitations of the method
Due to my definition of the “first page of the year”, each year can in reality have up to 24 fics more (or up to 19 more on AO3) on the page preceding “first page of the year” (page 806 in the example from Figure 1.). According to my method those fics would be included into the count of the following year (2018 in the example from Figure 1.). In the same time, a year can in reality have 24 fics less (19 less on AO3) than I calculated on its “last page” due to similar phenomenon concerning the year’s “end”.
Therefore, all the values reported for FF.NET have an error of +/- 24, and those for AO3, error of +/-19.
Additionally, as new fics keep being added, years’ borders may shift from one page to another. This factor should however be negligible, because current fic addition speed is ca. 1 fic per hour on FF.NET and 1,5 fic per hour on AO3 and my data collection lasted ca. 2h for FF.NET and 1h for AO3.
On AO3, authors can freely set a publication date, and the chosen date is then displayed in the header of the fic when one clicks inside it. The user-defined date doesn’t influence the sorting order, i.e. fics are still sorted according to their date of addition to the archive. However, the user-defined publish date makes application of my definition of the “first page of a year” very challenging. I often had to look at second, third or fourth fic on the page to find out to which year they belonged to (in order to correctly assign the page to the year). Fortunately, the publish date-changing seemed to be in fashion only during the early day of the archive (years 2009-2011). Therefore, the data from the years 2010 and 2011 may be contain larger errors than those from later years. Due to this difficulty, I also entirely opted out from reporting the data for 2009.
Results
Number of fics published per year on FF.NET and AO3 is shown in Figure 2.
On FF.NET, after a steep rise in years 2006-2007, Naruto fandom was at its peak in 2008 (having produced more than 45000 fics that year). After 2008 a rather steep decline can be observed, with a very slight reversal of negative trend in 2013. In 2019 only less than 9000 fics has been added to FF.NET.
Situation looks very differently on AO3, which, having been established in 2008 and opened for use in 2009, has been gaining momentum ever since. In 2019 ca. 13000 Naruto fics have been added to AO3. It is interesting to note that the growth of Naruto fandom on AO3 was very slow for several years, but recently it accelerated.
To examine the details of this “growth spurt”, I analyzed data from 2018 and 2019 month-by-month. Results are visualized in Figure 3.
It can be seen that until July 2018, less fics per month were being published on AO3 than FF.NET. In the period August 2018 – November 2018 the fics’ numbers between the platform evened out, and AO3 gained advantage over FF.NET in December 2018.
In order to check if the gain of fics on AO3 can counterbalance the loss of fics in FF.NET, I plotted the summed numbers of fics (those published on FF.NET and those published on AO3). The results are presented in Figure 4.
At the first glance, it looks as if AO3 could compensate for the losses on FF.NET and halt the decline. The case is not that straightforward however, and simple addition of fics from two platform can actually be misleading and incorrect. This is due to the fact that many authors publish in parallel on both platforms, and fics uploaded to FF.NET are de facto the same fics as those published on AO3. Additionally, some authors move from the older FF.NET to the newer AO3, where they re-post their older works in bulk.
To answer the question if the decline of Naruto fandom has been stopped, one would need to know the numbers of unique fics published per year. But, looking at years-long trend, I would lean towards the opinion that the decline is real.
But not to finish this post on a too depressing note, I would like to share one more graph – namely the cumulative number of fics on both platforms (Figure 5.). Even if the fandom is past its heyday, hundreds of thousands of fics have been produced and are there to read and enjoy (and comment on!). And, last but not least, it’s up to us to keep the fandom alive!
