Well, considering that I'm coming out of not being able to move my dominant hand for a long time (I couldn't draw cries), I'll ask questions.

Also-ran Will Brie have interactions with other characters? (I'm talking about characters like Red, Blue, Gold, Green, etc.)

Publicity is important, and considering that she wears clothes from a brand originating from Paldea, would they invite the little changeling to Paldea so she can talk about something? I could also give talks to children who feel abandoned (something quite common, but not said, at least in the anime, Brock and his brothers are a great example, even if that is in Kanto)

At some official gala/event she said "what the hell" to the repercussions and just took off her shoes?

Considering everything about how people try to imitate her idols, what have been the waves in the population in trying to follow her and be equal to her? (the girl is feral, she is made differently, even if they managed to give her a life outside the forest)

How would she behave if she went to Alola? (her parents are pokemon, and Alola is one of those who most see pokemon as equals)

Into the wild Do you know the "El Macho" meme from Despicable Me? is that Volo? (he has a son with what I think is one of your wildest ocs, she fishes with her teeth!)

The Wisteria Does she also show her love with bites? (like when cats get affection overload)

What would her future relationship with Shinjuro be like? (because, you know, alcoholism, even though he left it that's how she met him)

Does the Cat stay with the Owl? What is her ship name?

Would she plant a tree like the one she had in the backyard of the house? (because of the symbolism and familiarity)

Gone Fishing I feel like I know her but at the same time I don't, any information about her?

Will she be one of those who hides or will she send everything to hell with her and not care how people look at her because she is proud of her? (because, you know, racism)

I feel like her clothing style is that of a surfer and/or swimmer, I also feel like she dresses like Nani from Lilo and Stitch? (Also, Nani is a goddess, she gave everything for her sister, and David is a loving person, I also adore him)

Andou does show love through bites, watch out. And the Cat and Owl shipname would be idk, Sunflower?? That sounds cute.

Andou sticks around close enough, though she will move in with Himejima, she just bounces from one place to another for training and socialization.

Shinjuro needs to pspspps for kitty to warm up to him. It'll take a while, but eventually. And yes, plant tree for Fujisaki house. :V

Mako is still a babbu, but she is very feral and a brat kid who drives her papa up the wall. But she is love and cherished. And also pretty fucked mentally since she's matured wayyyy to quickly for anyone of her physical age (its the discrimination and injustices)

Also yes, she'd vibe with Nani wear, tho she mostly sticks with comfy clothes.

At least until Nami and the others get to her, so she goes from shorts and t shirts to haltertops at the least, brought to you by Nami growing tired of her dorsal fin ripping the back of her shirts lmao.

She's the ship dress up doll at times lmao.

Otherwise, she keeps to herself unless otherwise. She checks for the right timing, if she sees it, she'll take it and say whats on her mind

If it was six years ago "spacebat" would be the fandom-wide ship name for entrapta/hordak, rather than a niche name for the horde prime clones. Because she likes space and he's a bat.

The reason this sort of naming fashion went out of style for shipnames is because it's incomprehensible.

In Adventure Time the closest was "Smokybear" which is Finn x Flame Princess and if you werent part of the in-fandom and saw someone mention a "Smokybear" youd be like ???

There was also Sugarless Gum which, while the ship name itself is part of queer history since it's a reference to the gay-ass intro to Just Your Problem (first queer subtext attempt on Cartoon Network in 2011), it's.... an absolutely horrendous ship name, which didn't survive the test of time compared to "Bubbline".

Im sure many fandoms have their variants. Pokemon fandom.... "pokeshipping", ""amourshipping", horribly confusing names but somehow they survived over time because to even ship the characters is already really niche iceberg stuff.

The She-ra version I see occasionally is "Glow" which is the incomprehensible shortening of "Glimbow". It's not quite the same - a true variant would be "arrowsparkle" or something - but it has the same energy of "this word sounds cute so we'll use it but then stop after a bit because nobody understands it".

Hmmm "arrowsparkle". Can I invent new ones?

"Thundercat".... "warriorcat"..... "aquacat"... "spacecat".... okay it's easy to invent catra ship names since people would be insane to not use "cat"... if i want to make them actually incomprehensible i need to go deeper....

"KittyShift"... yeah, that works... not a very nice ship mind you... someone more creative than me can invent shipnames that sound like statements instead of two words smushed together...

Other ship names? "Angel Mage".... "Glitter Knight".... "Seaweed"... good luck figuring out what these are

Weekend In Sinnoh (Absurdistshipping)

Heyo! First of all, can we talk about how good of a ship name this is? Whomever came up with Clingyshipping, you have my blessing! So this is a request for the wonderful @serchooke! It’s a sequel for Not That Far Away, featuring Diamond and Pearl! I hope you like it friend! X3

EDIT: So today I learned their actual shipname is Absurdistshipping! Still an amazing name for a ship! X3 Thanks friend for informing me! X3

Summary: Diamond and Pearl go to meet Gold in Veilstone. Shenanigens ensue.

There was something special about early mornings in Sinnoh. The rising sun was glowing gently over the mounts of snow lining the region’s various towns. In the small town of Twinleaf, Pearl leaned out his open window, breathing in the frosty air with a grin. “It’s gonna be a good day! Right Dia?” He said as he turned to his friend.

Diamond, not sharing Pearl’s morning enthusiasm, was sprawled out across the bed, snoozing away in his Slowpoke pajamas. “Zzzz….” Was his only response, rolling onto his back with a snort and a yawn. Pearl huffed and walked over to his sleeping friend, climbing into the bed and gently shaking the other boy awake. “Come on, Dia! Wake up! We got the whole day ahead of us! Think of all the Pokemon we can catch! The snacks we can eat!”

“Mmm...five more minutes.” Diamond yawned, rubbing at his face before flopping his arm over his eyes. Pearl huffed again, glaring halfheartedly at his friend. “Dia, I’m giving you one more chance to wake up and enjoy the day with me!” He threatened, a new mischievous idea taking shape in his mind as he grinned down at his friend.

With the only response from Diamond being another sleepy murmur, Pearl attacked. Crawling closer so he loomed over his friend, he waited until Diamond was once again fast asleep before his hands shot down, finding his sides and gently kneading them.

Almost immediately, Diamond was awake, his arms shooting down as bright, cheery laughter filled the room. “AHhehahhahahahaha! P-Pehhehehharl! Stahhap! AHehehehehhehahahah!” The sleepy trainer squirmed here and there, trying in vain to block out his friend's tickle attack. Pearl was persistent, however, and kept up his attack. He threw himself on top of his friend, his hands leaving no spot un-tickled on Diamond. “Wakey Wakey, Dia!” The blonde laughed as Dia squirmed and flailed, easily dodging retaliating fingers. “Aww! Look how red you are! You match your onesie!” He giggled, making Diamond blush even more.

Eventually, Pearl decided to give his friend a break, pulling his hands back and grinning cheekily at the now awake boy. Diamond gasped for breath as he rolled onto his back, tears of mirth dotting his cheeks as residue giggles escaped his lips. “Hehe...n-no fahair!” Diamond groaned, making Pearl grin. “Yes, fair! You gotta get up eventually, Dia!”

Before Diamond could decide whether or not vengeance was appropriate, his mom called, alerting both boys that breakfast was ready. “I’m gonna get you back.” Diamond promised before dragging himself out of bed, laughing when Pearl ran off ahead, not paying his quiet threat any mind.

The morning went by, and soon Pearl and Diamond were making their way to Veilstone City, eager to see their friend Gold. The Johto trainer had come all this way to see the latest discoveries in baby pokemon, and also to see his friends again as well. On their way there, Pearl decided he wasn’t quite finished poking fun at his friend. Literally.

“Pearl, pleahease!” Diamond jumped with a giggle, flinching away at the spontaneous pokes and tweaks at his sides. “Didn’t I suffer enough this mohorning?” He tried to move away from the prodding fingers, only for Pearl to follow along anyway, hands getting more persistent. “Come on, Dia! You can’t say you truly suffered! Besides, it’s so much fun tickling you! You sound like a baby Magby! It’s adorable!”

“T-That’s not true!” Diamond exclaimed, his cheeks flushing a warm pink at the comparison. He tried to glare, but it was useless when Pearl reached out and gave his belly a playful jab. Pearl laughed. Diamond flushed. “That is it!” He exclaimed, his own lips quirked up with mischief. “You want to laugh, Pearl? I’ll give you something to laugh about!” With that, he pounced on his friend, grabbing onto his sides and squeezing gently.

“HIYA! Ahehahahahahhahahaha!” Pearl immediately shrieked before falling into helpless laughter, flailing about as Diamond tickled him senseless. He tried his best to wriggle away, but Diamond held him in place, knowing just how to tickle him. “Oh no! I told you I was gonna get you back! Time to face your punishment!” He cheered, laughing along with his shrieky friend.

The pair rolled about in the grassy terrain, hands darting in to make the other squeak and laugh. Before long, both boys found themselves lying side by side, laughing freely as they looked up towards the warm sun above them. “Hehe…I win…” Diamond breathed out, making Pearl grin. “Yeah right! I totally won!” He smiled softly as he looked up towards the passing clouds. “Heh...really though. You’re really cute when you laugh.”

Diamond’s eyes widened, feeling his face flush a bright pink as he looked over at his friend. Did he just… Pearl was still staring up at the blue sky, a soft, genuine smile painted on his lips as he watched the fluffy clouds pass. It took a minute for the realization to hit. His face flushed a bright red and he quickly shot up, scrambling to his feet. “Oh! Would you look at the time! G-Gold’s waiting for us! We gotta go, Dia! If you-you're late, it’s a fine!” With that, the blonde all but sprinted towards Veilstone, leaving Diamond behind.

The brunette trainer blinked as he watched Pearl escape, his cheeks still flushed pink and a hand gently pressed into his chest. “He thinks...I’m cute…” He mused, a giddy grin growing on his blushing cheeks. With that, he got up and chased after his friend, heart pounding in time with his footsteps. “Pearl! Wait for me!”

From time to time I see people commenting about the fact that the Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom uses ___shipping names rather than smush names and wondering why that fandom* has to be different (though we’re not actually the only fandom that does this, Pokemon does as well and may have done it even before, but I’ll touch on this later).

And jokes aside, it uh, kinda makes sense when you stop and think.

Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokémon are both long running (20+ years) series with literally hundreds of characters and over 900 episodes (Pokemon actually recently hit 1000).

Smush names are fine and all for series with small casts and/or aren’t overly long, but when you’ve been running for that many years, you develop some issues.

1) Similar sounding names.

Presuming for a moment that YGO used smushnames and smushnames only (b/c it *does* use smushnames every now and then, mainly on the JPN side of the fandom and while waiting for a shipname to be decided on), if I gave the name RyoYu, which pairing would I be referring to?

Would it be

a) Ryo Bakura and Yugi Muto

b) Ryo Marufuji and Yuskue Fujiwara

c) Ryoga Kamishiro and Yuma Tsukumo

d) Ryoken Kogami and Yusaku Fujiki

e) any crossover combination of these characters b/c crossover do happen (a lot)

The answer, literally any of these. These are all ships within the various series that logically could all be smushed into RyoYu (I may have even missed some combinations)

And then there’s the obvious fact that the Yunsound is in A LOT of character’s names in this series. Yugi, Yuskue, Yusei, Yuma, Yuya, Yuto, Yugo, Yuri, Yuzu, Yusaku...to name a few(and five of these names all appear in the same series). I mean, how do you smush Yuya and Yuri and make it distinct from a Yuya and Yuto smush?

Generally when you look at a smush name you should be able figure out the characters involved- TanuNatsu is clearly Tanuma/Natsume (Natsume Yuujinchou), EdWin is Edward and Winry (Fullmetal Alchemist), NaLu is Natsu and Lucy (Fairy Tail).

Which becomes hard when you have 20+ years, 6 series and literally hundreds of characters under your belt. Trying to make each and everyone distinct is, hard.

Also, not ever pairings is just two characters, OT3+s are surprisingly common and trying to smushname THOSE is even harder.

2) How to smush/multiple ways to smush

Sometimes two names just do not blend well together and you have to try obscure combinations to get a name.

For example in Cardfight!! Vanguard, trying to locate *any* fan work for Chrono Shindou and Shion Kiba. What shipname do I search under?

ChroShi? ShiChro? If it’s not under those what other combinations do I try in order to find content?

Turns out it’s actually under Shiokuro (specifically, written like this シオクロ)

Or, there are multiple ways TO smush a name but no one agrees on which one.

Homura Takeru and Yusaku Fujiki

Is it HomuYuu, TakeYuu?

What about Kogami Ryoken/Revolver and Yusaku Fujiki

Is it RevSaku, RevoYuu, YusaRyo, RyoYusa?

Answer, all of them (according to the shiplist page, these are all smushnames used for these pairings).

Which leads to a tagging problem. Do you tag it as all of them? As just one and if so which one? Which is the most active if they’re all in use?

Alternatively, one of these smushnames could also be the smush name of a pairing in a totally unrelated series. And that’s just gonna make it even harder for the smaller fandom to find content of their pairings.

So rather than finangling around going ‘do I use 4 different ship tags’ it’s easier to just throw ‘datastormshipping’ onto Yusaku/Revolver content and be done with it.

3) Dub and sub names.

While not a problem in a lot of series, YGO, and Pokemon, have the issue of names being changed when it gets an English adaptation. And sometimes the changes aren’t even close to the original in terms of sound or even letters.

Jounochi to Joey at least has the decency to keep the ‘Jou’ sound at the beginning. On the other hand, Hiroto Honda became Tristan Taylor and that is, vastly different.

Which then leads to the issue of, not everyone will have seen the sub and only knows the dub version, so now on top of there being smushnames that use their Japanese name, there’s going to end up smushnames using the dub name as well. So now if you want to find content for your pairing, the tags you gotta search may have just doubled.

Which brings us to ___shipping names.

As far as I can tell these are, mainly used by the English speaking side of the fandom (or at the very least the non-Japanese side of the fandom). These make it easier to search for content/tag content so it can be found or avoided.

It’s one tag to search though and one that’s *usually* descriptive in some way of the pairing (I say usually b/c there didn’t appear to be any regulation on DM ship names way back when just a, first come first serve basis with suggestions that didn’t need any kind of reasoning for them) and won’t overlap with unrelated fandoms.

Smushnames cam work and we do sometimes use them, it’s just, sometimes you really, REALLY need an alternative b/c of the reasons mentioned above. And these kinds of names are almost certainly not going to be in use by anyone else.

As someone who's not a part of Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom, i just have to ask about the shipping names. How does one memorise those? Is there a list?? Who came up with them???

There’s a lot of discussion that have been explaining why Yugioh and Pokemon have held onto the [blank]shipping names and while idk how to find them, but the long and short of it is

a) both franchises consist of plenty of characters and spinoff containing even more characters, bc of all those names, just smushing the names together doesn’t always lead to something instantaneously recognizable in English (I believe the Japanese fandom at least does the normal smush together thing at least for Yugioh)

b) in Yugioh you got some characters with basically different forms of themselves and possession and reincarnation stuff muddling the waters

c) being two similar fandoms that both started in the late 90′s/early 2000′s and were more or less in the same circle might have helped it

For example with A5, the protag is Yuya and the lead female is Yuzu, that alone is complicated, but then Yuya has these three other different versions of himself named Yuto, Yugo, and Yuri, just trying to distinguish between say Yuya/Yuzu and Yuto/Yuzu would be difficult but then ppl also ship Yuya/Yuto (tbh in that combination of five characters I think I’ve seen stuff for each one of them, so you can’t just hope one similar sounding ship won’t get popular) so instead of dealing with that mess we have Fruitshipping, Braceletshipping, and Counterpartshipping, which are much easier to distinguish and organize

As for memorizing them, ship names are supposed to make sense for the ship so it is kinda obvious who you are talking about, Fruitshipping is called that bc Yuya is often likened to a tomato and Yuzu’s name roughly translate to citrus, for Braceletshipping, during a lot of Yuzu and Yuto’s interactions, Yuto gets mysteriously teleported away by Yuzu’s bracelet, and then the fandom calls the different Yu boys “counterparts” and so Counterpartshipping is self-explanatory

Of course with thousands of ships (and especially crackships that have less to draw on) sometimes ship names aren’t always intuitive, but honestly just being in the fandom and seeing each piece of Yuya/Yuzu art tagged “fruitshipping” helps drives it into your head, being in fandoms like this with plenty of episodes, characters, and ships kinda trains you to git gud at memorizing shit (at least for me), and if worst comes to worst and you have no idea, ppl are totally fine with clarifying who is who

There have been several ship lists and blogs that go around to varying degrees of success, some ship blogs don’t just act as an encyclopedia but also host polls on when new ships pop up so ppl can vote on a name, however at the end of the day, it is the fan of certain ships that decide it, when one grows more popular, ppl bring their suggestions to the table and the one ppl like the most tends to get picked up by the most and things smoothen out

I have to say though it is really funny bc with one ship though it has a shipping name like the rest, most ppl just smush the names together, technically the ship for the characters Zarc and Ray is called “Genesishipping” since they kinda kickstarted the entire plot, but since it took such a long time for a common shipname to become prominent most ppl simply call them Zarcray (even myself, and I was a big supporter of making genesishipping popular)

Tbh it can be complicated and prone to drama (plenty of counter-shipnames have sprung up bc certain populations disliked the current name being used) but I’ve grown to embrace the quirk, I think it only works bc only two fandoms use it, but it is a fun part of celebrating a ship and can kinda further the specific aesthetic

why did you chose your URL: When I started tumblr I started with fanetjuh, which was the name I used everywhere on the internet. I am however in the Tanz der Vampire fandom and we discovered that if you mash up my name with the name of my favourite character in that show (Alfred) you can a shipname that sounds like his name, but doesn't look like it. That became my new URL and I haven't changed it ever since. I have a few URL's saved I'm considering using: acourtofhopeanddreams, acourtofgameandthrones, littleprincessanna and justabravelittleangel. But they're all kind of long and I'm not sure if they're really better than the one I have now.
