it was always kind of baffling to me how even after the whole reveal of light hope being the one who pulled adora through the portal and letting glimmer in to activate the heart of etheria not a lot of people registered the stuff that happens with the first ones ruin at the end of the beacon and all throughout promise as deliberate and planned manipulation by light hope. the beam not going up until adora announced herself as weak and scared wasn’t meaningful in the way that that was what she needed to be, it was meaningful in the way that light hope wanted her vulnerable so she would be malleable. light hope watched adora her whole life, she knew who catra was, and the ruins don’t reveal themselves unless they want to be found, and catra saw the beam too, she drew both of them in and poked at catra’s wounds until she snapped and officially tried to sever herself from adora and only then did lighthope finally swoop in and ‘rescue’ her. and i get that some people might feel like assessing that situation for what it was (it being manipulation) might feel like doing so ‘absolves’ catra or even adora of the things that were said or done in that episode but i just don’t agree and i think ignoring how that plays into adora’s overall character and just how thoroughly the concept of destiny and fate has fucked over her whole life is just a general disservice to both her and light hope and a very key facet to the story.
