Back on r/AO3 and I'm about to write a fucking etiquette book for how to comment

#and this is not about long vs short vs emoji comments #this is about what you actually choose to say to total strangers #the current debate on that sub is whether it is rude to comment on a fic only to gush about the commissioned art #I don't know who needs to hear this but commenting on a fic and not talking about the fic at all is rude #that's the long and the short of it #going onto a fic to talk about something random or your friend oryour fic or some art and saying nothing about the story in front of you #that is rude #it is always rude #r/aO3 seems to believe that commenters can do no wrong #which is an insane take btw #but every fucking interaction on AO3 is a social interaction #you are engaging with strangers #and nobody would stand in line at a book signing and tell the author 'I really loved the cover art' and say nothing else #if they did everyone would think that person was wack #including the fucking authork

I'm not entirely certain I'd describe that as "rude," since it is, technically, true

#lotro #oblivion npc dialogue #im pretty sure the conversations people in the housing neighborhoods have are totally random and not at all scripted #anyway there are tons of other trees around here so im also not sure its really a concern #although after poking around the north edge of cardolan where it connects to the housing neighborhood it might be #there are way more trees in the neighborhood than outside it #which actually kind of indicates that most of the trees in the housing neighborhood were planted by people #and given their size possibly planted by the same people who built the statue this guy is criticising #so ACTUALLY #that IS rude #have some critical thinking sir this is the most wooded area between the trollshaws and the old forest you think its NATURAL?

the older i get and the closer i am to reaching 30, the more the people around me try to deny me my age. it’s a constant ‘oh you’re just turning 29 again teehee 🤭’ or ‘dont tell your SO that, he’ll leave you for a younger model 😉’ and i just???? hate it?????????

i spent my entire teenaged years fighting for my life. i crawled through the deepest pits of my depression to cling to the promise of a life beyond that pain. i was so convinced that i was going to die young, that i would never see the grace of my age starting with a 2, let alone 3.

so im going to turn 30, and there’s not a damn thing anyone can do to stop me from loving it.

my new thing whenever an embarrassing memory jumps up out of some backwater neuron to t-bone my present-day thought process is to declare a statute of limitations. like i can burn down an entire building in the state where i live and the law deems it both unfair and illegal to prosecute me after six years have passed, i think that thing i said in high school can be expunged from my record.
