I have found a... really sad but growth opportunity for myself. As I was going through my role playing archives I found many familiar patterns. Choosing red flag people, open passion for unavailable people, but really the worst one to face is watching every last character ghost the love of their life.

Gobsmaked. Beside myself. Maggie? Yep. Rhoz? Oh yeah. Not looking forward to doing that one. New character? Chata. Effing. Stropic. Life ruiner. I wanted to deny I knew her, but I kept reading and she was fully more me than me, more me than the character that was my "higher self".

I know I will keep reading and understand WHY, like with Maggie but... it's rough to face.

It's fair, okay FAIR that they are taking control of a situation by eliminating themselves as an option. Most of the time, it's been the *right* and logical choice in the situation. But...

Ayyyyyyy but ... It's kinda taken away the agency of the other person involved with them to have a say. If I was that RP character I would have felt so helpless & disempowered.

When you have to face the ways you were a theoretical bad guy, how many times you might have done that IRL, and low-key wish that you'd made thoroughly certain that chat RPG had "after care"

i mean it when i say we've gotta bring back askblogs. bring back making character chat posts with poor choice text colors over random backgrounds. bring back blogs dedicated to what outfits you think characters would wear.

fandom is an ecosystem, not a numbers game. these types of blogs/posts/etc still exist in concept, because people still want to make them and they're a great way to get your thoughts of an idea out in a simple format, but most people make them on like tiktok or instagram reels and that's where the problem lies. Those videos don't go anywhere. The format doesn't allow for the discussion to spread through the community and they're less likely to be engaged with in general. And to make them most people have to either show their face or figure out editing software, so the barrier to entry is higher (editing) and/or they have to forfeit an amount of privacy.

those types of posts/blogs are the first rung of the ecosystem. they're the perfect environment for younger members of the fandom to begin safely interacting with the larger community and putting their own thoughts and ideas out there. roleplay is the other major spot for that and those communities are diminishing as well, honestly (if you know of an rp forum board site, cherish it. and if you can make one, make one). they allow younger fans to begin engaging with the source material on a different/deeper level, but still at a very low barrier to entry, and begin conversations with other fans, which also helps them build skills which in turn may encourage them to pursue other avenues within the fandom (fic writing, other formats of askblog - which itself usually leads to art, cosplay, also fic writing, etc). Without those places to build those skills, they might feel discouraged from trying to begin when surrounded by curated people who have built their skills up for years.

And those conversations they foster also in turn help the community, by offering ideas to artists or fic writers to extrapolate on or building community jokes. And that text/blog format specifically is extremely beneficial, because it allows younger members of the fandom to remain anonymous and keep their privacy without concerning themselves with having any platform or having anything attached to them (very important for young fans figuring themselves out and navigating online community spaces for the first time, since they can remove themselves from spaces easily if they decide they don't like it and they're protected, rather than PUTTING THEIR FACE ON THE INTERNET). And those posts they make will spread a lot more into the community since they're in a significantly easier format to be reposted (few people are gonna be reposting tons of random short-form videos versus spamming their instagrams with reposts of 10 random fandom images yoinked from tumblr, or reposting to pinterest or something). Like, don't repost art, at the VERY least don't repost without credit, but also I am not ignorant to the fact that my art is not just the first google image result for "pjo pride" and related searches, but also the 4th, the 6th, the 9th, the 10th, the 11th, etc etc., and pops up in the search results before the official ReadRiordan does simply because people reposted my work more (most with credit, thankfully).

For fandom to be a community, it needs to perpetuate itself. There needs to be engagement with one another and conversation. If that bottom rung is cut off, then new fans won't be able to grow into the other niches of the fandom, and the fandom will be solely reliant on the source material and die out extremely quickly, and there won't be a community. There's no conversation! There's no reason to stay beyond the original material! But if you don't have points of entry for new fans, they won't have any way to build the skills needed to move into those niches, or engage with the community in a healthy way.

tl;dr: Bring back askblogs and character-based text post blogs. They are vital to fandom ecosystem.

I would kill for an RPG that takes place in the witcher universe... and by RPG I mean full on RPG experience where you can create your own character (not just male option) and customise their appearance and buy your own horse and name your horse and screw the local pretty elven prostitutes etc.

Halfling Dale Interactive Fiction - Quick Route Guide

This is a quick guide to the main routes in Halfling Dale. It will tell you how to get on, and stay on, each character's special plot line - with as few spoilers as possible. As a general rule, most of the routes are decided at the end of Chapter 2: The Harvest Festival during the Bonfire fireworks display.

If you would like more help with each route (information on how to succeed in specific things, start romances, or how to get the 'good' endings), I'll be publishing more detailed walkthroughs for each character in the future.

Mum Route To begin the Mum Route you must choose the option "Mum and Ida. I know they're embarrassed, but they can't miss the fireworks! I go back home to fetch them." and then "I admired Hugo a lot." or "Hugo was my brother, that's how siblings are." In Chapter 2: The Harvest Festival. To continue the Mum Route you must choose the option "Mum doesn't need to be in the WWA to do good in the Dale. Why don't we make our own group?" In Chapter 3: Autumn turns to Winter.

Hugo Route To begin the Hugo Route you must choose the option "Nobody. I feel very outside this celebration. I don't think anyone will notice if I'm missing. I'll go to the next hill and watch the fireworks from there." and then "Remain by yourself." and then "I can hold onto hope that he'll come back, and next time he won't slip away without me." In Chapter 2: The Harvest Festival. To continue the Hugo Route you must have a good relationship with him by Chapter 7: Another Birthday Arrives (Hugo Guide will be published with more details).

Tom & Ida Miller Route To begin the Miller Route you must choose the option "Mum and Ida. I know they're embarrassed, but they can't miss the fireworks! I go back home to fetch them." and then "Tom was always kind to me, he was my friend." In Chapter 2: The Harvest Festival.

Wilibald Fairburrow Route To begin the Wilibald Route you must choose the option "Wilibald Fairburrow. Though it wasn't me who stole his sword, an apology from my family would probably mean a lot to him." and then "Offer to help with the repairs." In Chapter 2: The Harvest Festival. To continue the Wilibald Route you must choose the option "It was rather fun, I'd love to help more!" In Chapter 3: Autumn turns to Winter.

Garrance Prosper Route To begin the Garrance Route you must choose the option "Nobody. I feel very outside this celebration. I don't think anyone will notice if I'm missing. I'll go to the next hill and watch the fireworks from there." and then "Follow Garrance." In Chapter 2: The Harvest Festival. To continue the Garrance Route you must choose the option "Yes! That sounds like fun." or "Maybe a little lesson would be interesting…" In Chapter 3: Autumn turns to Winter.

Lily & Mayor Goldworthy Route To begin the Goldworthy Route you must choose the option "The Goldworthys. Just because the contest is over doesn't mean I've stopped trying to reclaim my reputation! I'll ask the Mayor if there's anything I can do to help the night run smoothly." In Chapter 2: The Harvest Festival. To continue the Goldworthy Route you must choose the option "I want to become important in the Dale." or "I'd like a more permanent position of importance… perhaps on the town council?" Benny Brownfoot Route To begin the Benny Route you must choose the option "A friend. One who doesn't mind if I'm respectable or not." and then "Benny Brownfoot; he's always good for a laugh." and then "Roll your eyes, typical Benny, always causing trouble!" or "Laugh along and sit down." In Chapter 2: The Harvest Festival. To continue the Benny Route you must have a high 'mischievous' stat and good relationship with him by Chapter 7: Another Birthday Arrives (Benny Guide will be published with more details).

Patty Appleton Route To begin the Patty Route you must choose the option "A friend. One who doesn't mind if I'm respectable or not." and then "Patty Appleton; she's the only other halfling standing alone, maybe we could stand alone together?" In Chapter 2: The Harvest Festival. To continue the Patty Route you must have a good relationship with her by Chapter 7: Another Birthday Arrives (Patty Guide will be published with more details).

Cousin Sissy Route During Chapter 2: The Harvest Festival: if you knock Sissy's pie on the floor, or Swap your Pie with hers then tell her about it, the Sissy Route will be locked off. To begin the Cousin Sissy Route you must choose the option "I'll celebrate at home with family, and maybe a few close friends." and then "Maybe we could invite Cousin Sissy." and then choose ANY OPTION OTHER THAN "This is my chance! Take the money, then spurn Sissy and cement her embarrassment, and our rivalry, forever more!". You can then choose "Shift my focus to Sissy." (this option will not always appear) in Chapter 4: Yule Night. To continue the Sissy Route you must choose the option "What a great idea Sissy, you're so right." in Chapter 6: Summer begins to Bloom.

She wanted to cough a little as she watched him stand. For all her playful teases, she was quite sincerely tempted by him. Tempted, not to the point of her...lovely obsession with the doctor, how he tore her apart at the seams with her love for him, how she tore herself apart with her little secret tears at the point of feeling so ... alive ... and human at the feeling of his lips.

No he was like a fine object that encased a lost soul, a soul that wanted arms around it, the comforting arms of a woman that wanted nothing from him but to place those arms around him, and invite him into her softness. saw a video about 2 player ttrpgs and one of them was like "this one's about a pretend marriage" and i was like oh? and i looked it up on itch (eyes on the prize, fyi) and it's 50% as of right now and i was like OH? and i bought it immediately & ive read most of it and i am a big fan. and i KNOW that i have friends who would have fun playing it (it's a 2 player or 4 player game; the 4 player variant has 2 fake couples) but asking them is going to be so cringe. yeah we're gonna make up people and pretend to be them and then pretend to pretend to get married and the characters when they start their pretending they're gonna be like "oh we don't have any romantic feelings towards each other this is strictly plot" but then (get this) they will start to develop real feelings for each other. and we're gonna act it out together and pretend to be them but don't worry! we have no romantic feelings towards one another. this is strictly plot. when WE (irl) pretend to be in love it's actually platonic, unlike the people who we are pretending to be to each other. so do you have like 2-5 hours you wanna dedicate to that next week

and the worst part is that's 100% what i want. like i have roleplayed romance before with friends it is literally not a big deal because the whole point of roleplay is that the character ISN'T you. but with a fake relationship the crushing weight of dramatic irony hovers behind me
