I remember being six years old and my dad telling me to come over and listen to a song he heard at work earlier that day. He put on YouTube and started playing a new teenage country singer who sang about slamming screen doors, burning pictures, and I was mesmerized.

I remember every year I would wait to hear the newest album, watching this girl hold up signs in her window, dance around at a ball, and sing about getting caught in the rain.

My grandpa sent me a birthday card and, when you opened it, it would play the lyrics, “well I don’t know if it gets better than this you take my hand and drag me headfirst, fearless”. I kept that card close to my heart until the music died out years later.

Now I’m here, at 22 years old. I’ve gone through heartache, joy, confusion. I’ve been in the darkest places in the brightest spaces, and I’ve found true joy when I never thought I could. My life has been incredibly unstable, but the most stable thing has always been Taylor Swift.

Midnights is yet another album that I will hold dear to myself and I can’t wait for the day that I can have my own child and share the magic that Taylor holds in her music. To share your art is one beautiful thing but to so deeply impact the lives of others with that art is a gift so unbelievable.
