Okay, so Dave Bautista wants a romcom...
So Dave is a car mechanic who has made a name for himself as the guy to go to for restoration/rebuilds of classic cars. He's the da Vinci of cars.
But while respected for the work he does, he has only a few close friends/colleagues and struggles to make new friends/date as he makes a pretty intimidating first impression - in addition to his size and tattoos he's also shy and nervous which comes across as stony silence.
He meets up with Person A, important to him (college-aged kid perhaps), who stresses that they should try to put themselves out there again and find the love they so deserve, etc. Dave tries to shrug it off but it nags at him.
Let's move on to Love Interest.
Recently divorced mom trying to rebuild herself and life. Perhaps runs an art gallery but had dreams of being an artist that had been shelved years ago.
She inherited an old car from her deceased relative, which requires fixing up naturally. She's had it storage for years bit rediscovered it during the process of decoupling from her husband. Her son wants to get it fixed up so he can take it ba k to college. He knows Dave's work from social media and reaches out for a consult.
Bad/awkward first impressions between Dave and LI but son asks if he can help work on the car; his father always promised, but he never found the time.
Son quickly learns that Dave is a giant teddy bear and the next time he interacts with him mom he realises that Dave seems to have an interest in his mom - Dave's kid/friend/coworker is also there to witness the interaction and the pair try to set Dave and LI up.
Cue awkward first dates, hustling pool in a dive bar, getting drunk, starting impromptu karaoke in said dive bar, romantic drives down the coast complete with flat tyres and getting caught in the rain...
By the end of the movie, LI stands up to her ex, and Dave fights for what (who) he wants... they end up together, sharing a workspace, half garage half studio. I like the idea of her being inspired by Dave's tattoos and rekindles her creative side by becoming a tattoo artist. I wouldn't want her to have a full biker bitch makeover but definitely get some colour/attitude in her appearance.
And they lived happily ever after.
