while i know the dash has been talking abt the guest characters already personally i love to think abt every riptide guest all somehow getting together and joining the same crew(?). like they're all hanging out together in the background. maybe not as a pirate crew but they're there.
upon leaving seamart clorten immediately got lost again and just kinda floated island to island. at some point he ran into la alma while grocery shopping and after discovering they both knew the riptide crew they decided to stick together for a bit (clorten hoped having la alma guide/sail would make them less lost. it does not. his helplessness knows no bounds)
eventually the two sail up upon dooke and meet duke dukem who invites them to live w him (bc like dooke is chill but all the living plants and shit are kind of annoying and he doesnt like them and hes going a BIT mad here alone). they just like shrug and accept it.
after like a month together tastrius washes up on their shore, like full family guy death pose covered in seaweed (dooke picked him up and put him there). duke is like "hey dude welcome to my island. whats up." and tastrius gives this big long and elegant story abt how hes cursed to live forever and he's been drifting in the sea currents but at least he could finally set his crew to rest and after theres this heavy pause and duke is like. "cool wanna join my town theres 3 of us" and tastruis just goes "....yes".
so now they're all just living on dooke and its a semi-functional group situation they're like a sitcom
#la alma is the only reason they have Not Starved#(clorten before was living solely off fantasy cups of ramen)#(duke just had a massive horde of pretzels stashed up. he was running out and was like. La Alma is and probably always will be my favorite Riptide guest character. His story resonates with me so much. He’s so frustrated and in despair and just wants to get away from it all but he can’t. His love of wrestling has been twisted into an empty farse. And then finally, he sees an escape in these three pirates. He wonders if revenge is the way to go, but ultimately chooses peace. He finds the courage to tell the people that love him that their love was for a fake. And they still love him. It just makes me feel things man. It’s rare for guest characters to have an arc fraught with such emotion, where they get to have their own little stories and arcs. Those are my favorites.
#ofc ashe is my favorite guest character of all campaigns#bc he has even more character and emotion and development and depth#but hes a unique case that will probably never happen again#tastrius has the same if not more emotion but i just dont vibe with him as much as a vibe with la alma#probably bc he was just some random side story#whereas la alma was a main part of his own arc#tastrius just felt unneccessary (even tho he was cool)#ichabod was cool too but he wasnt sad#jrwi riptide#jrwi#la alma

Ever since learning that Jay has proficiency in lockpicks (and associated tools) during the Tastrius episodes, I’m in love with the idea that Jay just… steals Chip’s lockpicks. When she feels like it. He goes to grab them to fiddle and they’re just gone because Jay decided to yoink them bc they’re tiny and good for whatever project she’s working on.
There have been several occasions where Chip went to grab them to do something (opening a can, poking at something stuck in a plughole, etc) and they’re not there because Jay has yoinked them (to poke at something that’s slightly moved in her contraption, to test something, to use as a screwdriver because she can’t find hers (she used it to hold her hair back)) and he is constantly having to go find her and get them back, often derailing whatever it was he was going to do until the next time be notices.
It is an eternal sibling fight between them of the classic “don’t touch my stuff.” Jay just points out that the ONE GODDAMN TIME since she’s known him that he tried to pick a lock, he fucking failed, so he’s probably better off giving them to her.
(That and she misses having those stupid little sibling fights. He kinda does too. They never buy a second set.)

Now I’m probably late to the discussion but JRWI fans… what do we think the stick is? Because honestly it’s been eating me alive ever since it was brought up again a few eps back.
Just for a Recap:
-The stick was found in Captain Tastrius’ treasure
-They tried investigating the stick back on the ship but no matter what they did nothing happened
-When Chip met with Niklaus he decided (for whatever fucking reason???) to leave the stick there(maybe assuming it would do something in their favour?)
-When Chip met with Niklaus again in the black sea, Niklaus had found the stick, and when Chip asked about it, he started guarding it, seemingly not wanting to lose it.
I did some digging and it’s theorized that the stick was actually from a different campaign ran by JoCat, an object of immense power that the players there never actually used, because they assumed it was just a normal stick. Whether or not it was meant to be the same stick is unclear… maybe they’ve actually confirmed this on Just Rolled with it and I’ve never seen it but it’s still an interesting connection
Anyways all that to say this thing drives me insane, and I NEED to know what it does at some point or I will riot.
So… any theories?

jrwi has a wild amount of cannonical representation from simply gnc folk (god of Charisma uses they/them but may still be gender binary) to full on aspec (Gillion), non-binary (Tastrius' helms person), bisexual (William), wlw (Lizzie) and not just queer-wise but Dakota being based off autistic family members and William having religious trauma, and Vyncent's 'superpowered DID'.
Don't even get me started on everything that's going on in Apotheosis- and Chip can't escape the allegations for a reason okay?
Just feels so great idk what to say. Some media has to fight tooth and nail to even get a gay couple onscreen but how lucky that jrwi does it so naturally and freely? Even causal NPC background characters are hinted at having "non-typical" lives and it's treated so normally and casually.
