HOW TO MAKE MACARONS
you’ll start by preparing your equipment.
PART ONE: SETTING UP.
get out your metal bowl. get out your mixer, your whipping attachment, your spatula, all those little cute prep bowls you got for mise en place and never used. your kitchen scale, your baking sheets, your silicone mats, your piping bag and tip.
here’s what you’re going to do: you’re going to make them forget. every fat that has ever touched them, you’ll wipe away. of course, they’re clean, but this is the trick- they can be cleaner. using white vinegar and a rag or paper towel, give the surface of all your implements a quick wipe. a common pitfall avoided, simple as that.
don’t you wish you knew how to do that for yourself? don’t you wish it was that simple? i wish it was that simple.
PART TWO: MEASURING.
your kitchen scale is your best friend! it’s so much easier to be precise with a friend like this. certainly, you can succeed with volume measurement, but don’t you want to be careful?
here is what you need-
one hundred five grams of almond flour. one hundred five grams of powdered sugar. one hundred grams egg white. one hundred grams granulated sugar. if you have difficulty with dependably whipping egg whites to stiff peaks, one fourth teaspoon cream of tartar.
for this recipe, i’ll be making lavender macarons. isn’t that nice? my mother is allergic. to follow along, measure out one tablespoon of culinary grade lavender.
now we turn to our secret helper, the food processor. for a macaron of the right texture, you’ll want the finest ground almond flour you can get, but it’s so hard to find the fineness you truly need. the easiest solution is to toss that almond flour into a food processor for a minute, and then it will be as fine as you need it to be.
add the powdered sugar to the food processor, too, why don’t you, and get them mixed together while you’re at it. if you’re using lavender, pulse that lavender to a fine dust in a spice grinder or separate in the food processor, then add that to the mix as well.
when i was younger, my best friend lived down the road. we loved each other so much. i’ve met him again now that i’m older. terribly allergic to nuts, now, developed suddenly. i missed him so much. i still miss him. i always will.
sift the almond flour, powdered sugar and lavender mixture through a fine mesh to remove any large fragments. discard the chaff. set aside.
PART THREE: PREPARING THE BATTER.
the technique used in this recipe is called a swiss meringue. it can be used in all kinds of applications, and it’s a handy technique to learn. my mother taught me to cook and to bake; not professionally, just at a basic level. she taught myself and my sister so well that we both had fractions mastered before beginning school! i wish she had taught me more. i wish she had never sent me to school. i wish i had never grown up. to start, add about an inch of water to a small saucepan and bring it to just a simmer on your stovetop.
put your egg whites and granulated sugar into a clean glass or metal bowl, one that rests nicely on the small saucepan without touching the water below. if it suits well and won’t touch the water, you can use the bowl from your stand mixer. as soon as you set it on the pan, start whisking, and don’t stop! your goal is simply for the sugar to dissolve. you can check this by touching the mixture with your fingertips and rubbing them together- do you still feel grains of sugar? i always hate this step. i hate the stickiness of the syrup and the perceived uncleanliness of the raw egg. it makes my skin crawl to touch it, and i keep a towel nearby to wipe my fingers on as soon as i can.
once your sugar is dissolved, you’ll pour the mixture into the bowl of your stand mixer and begin to whip the egg whites. start by mixing on low for half a minute or so; then, if desired, add your cream of tartar, and increase to medium for a minute or two. once it’s white and beginning to promise fluffiness, raise to medium-high or high and whisk until stiff peaks are formed. the best way to know is to watch. the whites will become glossy, the whisk will form streaks. some advise that the middle of the whisk will seem to start to fill. go slowly, at first- it hurts nothing to stop and check every so often. once you’ve done it a few times, you’ll just be able to tell, kind of, when you’re getting there.
i was never good at understanding that, the idea that “you’ll just know”. how could i know unless i knew the signs? how obvious should the change be? will it come to me easily, or will i be left behind?
the ideal stiff peak, when you lift your whisk from the whites, will shoot straight up, possibly with a slight bend to the tip.
remember those dry ingredients we sifted together earlier? now you’ll sift through that fine mesh again, this time directly into the whipped whites. you can do this in your mixer bowl or a different bowl, whichever works best for you. some people find it easiest to add their dry ingredients in two or three batches, mixing in between; i add mine all at once, and it seems to work fine.
to start, you’ll fold your dry ingredients into the egg whites. using a J-shaped gesture, bring your spatula slowly through the center and turn, then turn your bowl (as much as ninety degrees, as little as twenty- up to you!) and repeat. once everything is evenly incorporated, it’s time for the macaronage.
for me, this is the most effort that goes into making macarons. my arm aches by the time i’m done. don’t worry, it’s unlikely yours will! it’s also the step i love most, because it’s home to a display of unusual tenderness.
i work slowly. i work very slowly, in fact, intentionally, a sort of moving meditation that pains me somewhat to perform.
to macaronage, you will very gently and slowly press the batter up against the side of the bowl in deliberate strokes, turning the bowl as you work, so that once you’ve completed a rotation you’ve formed a flower pattern, each petal the width of your spatula. after each macaronage repetition, tenderly gather all of your batter back to the center of the bowl and start anew.
slowly, so slowly, your batter will become looser and looser, shinier and sleeker. it will fall from the spatula in flowing ribbons. when pulled up the side of the bowl, it will relax faster each time, easing back down more quickly. test often; don’t overmix! when your batter is ready, you’ll let the batter fall from your spatula in a smooth stream, leisurely and without interruption, effortless, forming several figure eights before it breaks.
it’s like a massage. i wish someone would macaronage me. i wish someone would treat me with tenderness and care.
pour your batter into a piping bag fitted with a half-inch round tip.
PART FOUR: PIPING.
you may use templates to pipe your macarons, or you may freehand them. i’ve tried both and i’m never happy. i’m never happy with anything. to pipe, place your piping bag ninety degrees half an inch or so over the center of the template and softly squeeze for about three to five seconds, then release and swiftly pull the bag up with a slight twist. it takes time to master this! your just-piped macaron shell should be well within the borders of the template if you intend for the finished product to be the size of the marked circle.
once you’ve piped as many as will be on the tray, set your piping bag aside and firmly bang the trays against the counter, a few times each. you’ll notice your macarons expand to fill the circles.
here is what i always forget: now you’ll walk away. by this time, typically i’ll be thinking i should preheat the oven, but it’s unnecessary. you have to wait. you have to be good. you have to be patient. set the trays aside. depending on the humidity, you’ll need to let them sit anywhere from twenty minutes to an hour.
i don’t know what to do with myself in this time. i should, by now. i should be able to fill time, i should remember how the recipe goes, but i’m always startled and dismayed to remember my distraction comes with a built-in lull. sometimes i work on other things, like a filling. sometimes i just sit. sometimes i just sit and think. sometimes i sit and think about things i shouldn’t. sometimes i think about things i shouldn’t.
when your macarons are ready, they’ll have a “skin” of sorts. when you gingerly touch the top of one, it should feel dry and not at all tacky. at this point, preheat your oven to 300º F.
PART FIVE: BAKING.
it may take slight trial and error to find the exact perfect cooking time for your oven. mine takes thirteen minutes; yours may take ten, or fifteen. if you try to move a macaron, it should feel neither jiggly nor crisp, merely stand firm, if delicate. a well-baked macaron will separate satisfyingly easily from silicone or parchment once cooled. i am not like a well-baked macaron as far as separation goes.
let your macaron shells cool fully before proceeding with any filling. they’ll keep for a few days in airtight containers at room temperature, longer in the fridge, and wonderfully for months in the freezer.
PART SIX: FILLING.
fillings are the difficult part for me.
you’d think, certainly, that the strenuously detailed work of the macaron shells would be the thing, but it’s not. i’m nearly always successful in the difficult work of preparing delicate, demanding shells, and then when i make ganache i have a breakdown.
maybe i’m just tired, by that point. i’m tired now. i’m tired all the time.
today, i’m making white chocolate and lavender ganache to go with my lavender shells.
you will need two hundred fifty grams of white chocolate (very nice white chocolate, not cheap stuff), two tablespoons of lavender, and ninety milliliters of heavy cream.
i have made this filling far more times than the lavender shells to accompany. it seems like every time i try, the chocolate curdles, or i add food coloring badly and it turns an unsightly brownish gray, or i oversteep the lavender and make it bitter. why is this the part where i stumble? why do i fail at the easiest parts? why am i better at something demanding and unforgiving than the part that should be simple?
add the heavy cream and lavender to a pot, and heat to just barely a simmer. let it sit for a minute, but not too long. pour the heavy cream through a strainer into the chocolate, and let sit for two to five minutes. with a whisk, gently stir the mixture until smooth. if the chocolate isn’t quite melted, microwave for ten seconds at a time, mixing in between, until the ganache is fully smooth.
set aside to cool. it should be ready in about an hour.
why do i make macarons? why is this the work i can do? why does it make me feel like i want to cry, but never actually make me cry? why can’t i cry?
pipe your ganache onto one shell, top with another, and you’re done! i like to use a fluted piping tip- it’s an easy way to make them look fancy. macarons are actually at their best in texture and flavor when they’ve sat in the fridge for a day or so. with age comes beauty!
the finished macarons are always beautiful, delicious, and technically impressive. i never feel like i’ve actually done something worthy of praise. there’s a hollowness in me that swallows up compliments and makes them disappear. i am lonely and looking for something in my kitchen. i don’t know what it is. i dream about being in the kitchen, barefoot, cracking eggs and letting yolks fall to the floor. our chickens have nearly stopped laying. what will i do when they die? when i fail them, and they die? i’ll have to buy my eggs at the store. i’ll have to go out to the store, with all the strangers around me, and grab my carton from the big cold hollow fridge in the big cold hollow store filled with people i don’t know. all looking at me. all knowing what is wrong with me. all knowing about the big cold hollow thing in me. they know that i’m not taking very good care of the chickens. they know that i’m too tired to clean as much as i should.
the best thing about macarons is that they freeze great and thaw quickly. my favorite way to store and serve macarons is to keep them in the freezer and put out what i’ll serve on the counter about a half an hour to an hour before they’ll be served.
i don’t like to go out and have those strangers look at me. i like to stay at home, in my kitchen, making macarons. i like to whip my egg whites to perfect, shiny peaks. i like to be barefoot on my kitchen floor, which is clean, mostly, or in my yard, on the grass, the plush grass, and i cannot be barefoot in the store.
i wish i could always stay at home. i wish i could just make macarons. i wish that was all i had to do, all day forever. i wish i was still learning to bake with my mother. i wish somebody would teach me to bake again. i wish i could stop.

Final results, more or less. Still no idea how accurate the colors are on camera, probably not very. But I've fully exhausted the dye bath and mostly exhausted my washed wool supply, so now I need to wash a bunch more.
Top and farthest from the front is the first batch, and the most green of all of them. That's the alum mordanted fleece. Sort of a green gold. Very pretty, although I'll admit I was hoping for something more green.
Closest to the camera is the second batch, and first exhaust. Also when I poured the copper mordant into the dye solution. I still dont know what color to call it, sort of orangey gold in the sunlight.
The last one isn't dry yet so the color will probably change somewhat, but it's currently dirty blond. It was the last exhaust bath, also copper mordanted. It's not a bad color but not exactly exciting either, so I might overdye it if I get the chance.
Tumblr media
Lastly the skein I dyed. It's got some dark spots (to be expected, or at least, that always happens to me when I dye as yarn) and should knit up into a pretty square.
If anyone wants to know the dyeing process with buckthorn, it's below the banners and cut.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I started with:
56 grams of Hampshire wool, washed (2 ounces) although dyed 225 grams / 8 total ounces
7 grams of alum (1.9t, rounded up to 2)
1.5 grams Cream of Tartar (1/2 t)
3 single handfuls of dried buckthorn berries (presumably more if fresh, as they shrink)
Fill dye vessel with a little hot water, add in CoT and alum and stir til mixed. Add more hot water and then add in wool, prodding until fully immersed (add water to wool line).
In this case I was using my single person crock pot/slow cooker and 2 ounces of wool just about filled it to the brim. Because of this I put the temperature on low instead of high as I normally would--if filled to the brim on high it will overflow.
I cooked the wool on low overnight to mordant it, then drained the water, washed out the crock pot, refilled it with water, and added the berries. Initially the berries were just free in the water but after a few hours I wanted to put the wool in, and didnt want to pick the berries out of the wool, so instead I gathered the berries back up and tied them up into a rag so that they could keep steeping. Then I put the wool in.
I let the wool cook for 24 hours on low heat, checking on it and stirring once or twice a day. After it reached the desired color, I pulled it out, rinsed it in hot water, hung it up to dry, and readied another batch of wool, because the dyebath clearly still had a lot of color.
I didn't have any pre-mordanted Hampshire available so instead I poured some handmade copper mordant into the dyebath, perhaps 1/4 cup (60 mL) or so. Then I got another 2 ounces/56 grams of wool up to temperature by rinsing it in a hot tap, squeezed a little of the excess water out, and put it in the dyebath.
Another 24 hours of cooking on low and that batch also had a beautiful color, so I pulled it out as well. By now the dye bath didn't have a lot of color left but it did still have some. So for the last batch, I dyed some fleece and then a sample skein of hampshire that i spun earlier, because why not. I also added another half single handful of dried berries in, these ones loose.
24 hours on low, and dyebath was the color of a very weak tea--finally exhausted. The last batch didn't have a lot of color, which is to be expected with the exhaust of exhaust. No worries.

Kaity Eighty Story and Facts
LORE POST GO
Early Life/Childhood
At the beginning of her life, her infant brain was aptitude tested and was confirmed to be in the 90th IQ percentile or higher, and was soon whisked away from her parents at the young age of 5 hours old. All documents surrounding her birth and existence were destroyed, and she was soon to be habilitated in military school.
Growing up, she didn’t necessarily have friends, but brothers and sisters she would rely on. She had an aptitude for taking things apart and putting them back together, such as pencil sharpeners and mechanical toys. Her teachers became aware of this, and transferred her into an engineering program, with an emphasis in machinery.
Messing with machines for assignments was probably the happiest she was in her childhood. She stayed in school until about 14 years old, where she graduated and was soon assigned to the Side Order project.
She was in charge of designing life-sustaining and oxygen producing machinery for the fallen dome, utilizing the nuclear power that was present.
With the sudden influx of Zapfish, the project was prosperous and a young Kaity was making great progress.
However, Zapfish would soon begin to disappear as the events of the first Splatoon occurred.
Splatoon 1
Kaity was really close to figuring out a solution to safely connect the nuclear power to power oxygen production, enabling a solution that would require minimum monitoring and could possibly be applicable to all the domes.
This would revolutionize life in the domes, as an infinite power source for oxygen would be a miracle for a civilization so reliant on electricity.
However, just as she was about to hit save, the Zapfish that powered her section of the project was ripped from its socket, and everything was shot for power for a while before the backup electricity kicked in.
Kaity had lost everything. About 2 years of work, calculation, research and scripture was lost in just a simple outage.
Needless to say, a young Kaity was fucking furious.
She went up to her manager and demanded to be relocated as a military force to find whoever did this and to make them PAY.
Through propaganda, she would discover Agent 3 was the one ripping out the power. She decided to set her sights on Agent 3.
Splatoon 2
After a lot of demanding and determined requests, she was transferred to the armed forces.
There, she met Kirakira, a young octoling who wasn’t sure what to do with himself, so he applied to the most basic of forces.
Kaity and Kira would begin to grow a powerful bond. At one point they would even say they were brothers.
Finally, when their basic training was complete, they were assigned together to an area where members of the NSS had an interest. An unstable area on the mountains.
On their first day on the job, it didn’t take them long to spot a 17 year old Sicily.
Memories flashing before her eyes of the lost files, she began to fight with Sicily, much to Kira and Sicily’s dismay because of the unstable conditions.
As such, the surface they were fighting on began to crumble, and eventually gave out beneath the three of them.
Octo Expansion
Octo Expansion.
Kaity forgets everything prior! Yay no more file bloodlust!
When she heard the Calamari Inkantation, she developed an extreme longing for the surface.
At this time, everyone called her Hachi, but her accent made it sound like Aachi, which prompted the nickname.
After finishing the campaign and defeating Commander Tartar, the OTH helicopter immediately transports everyone to the NSS Military Hospital. Kaity, Kira and Sicily are treated for injuries.
Left without a memory of everything prior, Kaity feels extremely bad for an injured Sicily. She stays by her side constantly.
Marina begins to teach Kaity and Kira a little Inklish. Kaity is way more receptive to the lessons than Kira is, but Kaity is happy to translate for him.
She’s also a huge Squid Sisters fan and freaked out during Sicily’s big genetics reveal.
After Sicily was discharged from the hospital, Kaity stuck with her to help take care of her.
Kaity begins to learn more about life on the surface, and begins to fall in love with life. And eventually… with Sicily.
Sicily cracks her egg and she realizes she’s a girl, and changes her name from Aachi to Kaity Eighty.
After Sicily feels better, she sticks around to help with rehabilitation training.
SO much romantic tension during spar sessions dear god. These girls should kiss and commence yuri (they do)
Splatoon 3
At a NSS going away party for Sicily and the Squid Sisters to go to Splatsville, Kaity proposes and the girls are engayged.
She gets employed at Ammo Knights as a Weapons Consultant and Modifier. She’s popular for weapon repairs and being a design assistant for Grizzco weapons.
However, she would soon be assigned to return to the Side Order project for the Side Order campaign, due to areas near the project’s location above ground becoming dangerous and polluted.
Originally only she would go with Off the Hook, but Caroline insisted on tagging along with her.
She would go for a month and then return for a visit to Splatsville. During that first month she still had an internet connection, and was able to keep in contact with her friends and family.
However, when she returned to the Side Order campaign, contact would be cut for her, Caroline, and Off the Hook.
Currently, she’s been separated from 4 and Marina, and she’s exploring an illusion of Inkopolis with Pearl.

The way they had to character assassinate Percy and Annabeth though? ''oopsie we did a mistake and forgot Bob'' like? And yeah the Calypso thing was already bad in itself but Bob literally gave his own life for Percy and Annabeth. And I thought Percy's fatal flaw was loyalty lmao? That anon who said it seems like Nico's fatal flaw is loyalty has a point. At least Nico never forgot about people, heck, he was the one who helped Bob first by giving him a place in the Underworld after his memory was wiped out, and that is pretty much why Bob decided to help Percy and Annabeth in HoH, and that is pretty much why Percy and Annabeth survived. Literally Nico's out there trying to help everyone in need even when the Argo gang was arguing about whether or not they should have saved Nico from his jar. I mean? I get that you have to do something to further your intended plot, but you also have to make it make sense within the narrative, otherwise, it just comes off badly written and sloppy.
Also, I have not finished the book but where are the Little Bob and Damasen?
And with Apollo thing... I mean, what was the point of 5 books Apollo series if you were gonna erase pretty much every development that we've seen? Lowkey was going to say 'Luke was right' if i am being honest.
It’s sooooo funny to me how Bob was like
Tumblr media
and Annabeth and Percy apparently decided they were built different.
what really gets me is that the solution to make Nico and Will have a nice trip to Tartar Sauce and not make anyone ooc (Percy and Annabeth, Apollo) was to make it a secret quest.
Other people don’t know they are going until it’s too late. Boom. Done. I’ll grant that maybe it was logistically impossible not to let Apollo know because he’s the sole narrator of ToA, but they could have at least spared Percabeth.
Re: Nico & Loyalty, it was always implied (implied. not plastered across the entire book and written on walls) that he was an impressively loyal person to the people he loved, especially fellow outcasts. Actually, mostly fellow outcasts. He was even stubbornly and devotedly dedicated to his father despite Hades being a um, *bad* father for most of the series.
That’s why I never see him becoming this walking meme that is loved by everyone, tbh. I’m not saying he has to be unhappy, but I was very okay with him always being kind of a weirdo and only having Will and a few true friends while being somewhat (not terribly. just somewhat) feared/treated with awe by anyone else. It’s the vibe he was giving in ToA and I loved it😭
Book Jon Snow vibes :(
The Apollo thing is just… plot convenience. There was clearly no time for him and that’s okay ig. I won’t retcon the entirety of ToA just because he was napping throughout tsats.

I did my own take on Capn/Agent 3! I’ll explain more of my thoughts after the cut!
Headcanon/Design thoughts:
-I love the default fem hairstyle for agent 3 but i wanted to make it more practical and androgynous, so I tied up their long tentacles into a ponytail like the main masc hairstyle!
- I wanted to add eyebags but you know, the squid mask gets in the way. My solution was to shorten the mask on top and add more brown on the bottom to make it look like eye bags.
-They have a star iris in their left eye after the TarTar incident. I noticed the inkling idols all have star irises and since Capn is a npc I wanted them to match, but I didn’t want to get rid of their regular irises so I just put both lol!
- they like crusty seans food a LOT
-They really like the training zap plushes, so they have both versions and they have a custom (softer) zap plush of the great Zapfish as a trophy.
-Left side of their face is dyed green and their left iris is stained greenish teal because of the TarTar incident. They also got a scar in the metro, the rest where after the metro.
-Capn is partially deaf, it got worse in their left ear after TarTar. So they always gave their hero headphones on because they act like hearing aids!
-The pog face at C.Q. Cumber is because of a official art of octo expansion where Agent 3 just looks very interested in C.Q.
-Autism

Even more of my jason procpechy child hc. Today I will going into each line and what they mean because this is legit just me planing out a fic I'll never write at this point.
• a half blood of the eldest gods shall reach 16 against all odds Bc jason turns 16 after the war maybe camp jupiter thought that ment he'd betray them and live bc he betrayed them. Or they thought he'd win the war and live bc they won ( probably thought both since procpechies are werid.) This is why Octavin hates him so much.
• obviously ajson did not betray them so this just means he'll live through the war
• and see the world in endless sleep the mist put mortals near Mount Tam to sleep so they won't witness the battle (having the tatins put mortals to sleep near they're base wouldn't make sense bc they're focusing on new york. This was my solution)
•camp jupiter goes to mount Tam to fight when they see the mortals asleep and assume that was the tatins
• a heros soul cursed blade shall reap jason had a friend who was preator with Reyna. When the battle came he ended up fighting Krios by himself while Jason is fighting some monster. Krios kills him. Jason sees and ends up fighting krios.
•a single choice shall end his days this referes to the friend (haven't decided a name yet) he sees Krios going to attack reyna while her back was turned so he decides to take him on himself
• olympus to persever or raze doesn't need to much explanation obviously jason sends krios to tartar sauce (auto corrected to that but it was to funny not to keep)
• but this also applies to Jason making a choice with venage. He went to attack Krios furious bc of his friends death and kronos tried to manipulate that anger and turn him against the gods (idk how yet maybe it was like woth Percy's dreams or smt) so jason had to make a choice turn against the gods or fight krios.
• the friend was once of reynas failed lovers they both kinda forced the relationship bc Reyna wanted to prove Venus wrong and friend was gay and in denial ( camp jupiter is totally cool with the lqbtq peeps but he grew up in a homophobic family before coming to camp jupiter)
• friend also and a hudge crush on Jason (told Reyna as he was dying who after the giant war told Jason who totally also had feeling for friend but didn't know he was gay until this was told to him)
•Reyna jason and friend were all super close friends
Sorry for referring to this dude as friend the whole time but I haven't decided what to call him yet (or who his godly parent is) so if yall have any ideas give me them

Professional Teeth Whitening vs. At-Home Teeth Whitening: Which is Right for You?
Tumblr media
A bright, dazzling smile is often associated with good health, confidence, and vitality. However, over time, various factors can cause teeth to become discoloured, leading many people to seek out teeth-whitening solutions. In this blog, we'll delve into the causes of discoloured teeth, how teeth whitening works, its effectiveness, and the differences between professional teeth whitening and at-home teeth whitening options.
Causes of Discolored Teeth
Before diving into teeth whitening methods, it's essential to understand what causes teeth to become discoloured in the first place. Some common culprits include:
1. Staining Foods and Beverages: Coffee, tea, red wine, and certain fruits and vegetables contain pigments that can stain tooth enamel over time.
2. Tobacco Use: Smoking or chewing tobacco can lead to stubborn stains on teeth.
3. Poor Oral Hygiene: Inadequate brushing and flossing can allow plaque and tartar to build up, contributing to discolouration.
4. Aging: As we age, tooth enamel naturally wears down, revealing the yellowish dentin beneath.
5. Medications: Certain medications, such as tetracycline antibiotics, can cause teeth to darken or stain.
6. Genetics: Some people are genetically predisposed to having thicker or thinner enamel, which can affect tooth colour.
How Does Teeth Whitening Work?
Teeth whitening treatments aim to remove stains and discolouration from the enamel and dentin of teeth, restoring a brighter, whiter appearance. Most whitening products contain either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide as the active bleaching agent. These chemicals break down stains into smaller, less concentrated particles, making the teeth appear whiter.
Does Teeth Whitening Work on All Teeth?
While teeth whitening can effectively remove many types of stains, it may not be suitable for everyone or every type of discolouration. For example:
Yellow Teeth: Teeth that have yellowed due to ageing or surface stains typically respond well to whitening treatments.
Brown or Gray Teeth: Teeth with brown or grey discolouration, especially those caused by medications or trauma, may be less responsive to whitening and may require alternative treatments like veneers or bonding.
Dental Restorations: Teeth whitening treatments do not work on dental restorations such as fillings, crowns, or veneers. These materials do not respond to bleaching agents, so they may need to be replaced to match the newly whitened teeth.
 Teeth Whitening Options
When it comes to teeth whitening, there are two primary options available: professional teeth whitening and at-home teeth whitening kits.
Professional Teeth Whitening:
Performed by Dentists: Professional teeth whitening is typically performed by a dentist or dental hygienist in a dental office setting.
Stronger Bleaching Agents: Dentists use higher concentrations of bleaching agents than those found in over-the-counter products, allowing for more dramatic results.
Customized Treatment: Dentists can tailor the whitening treatment to the individual patient, taking into account factors such as tooth sensitivity and desired level of whitening.
Faster Results: Professional whitening treatments often yield faster results, with noticeable improvement after just one session.
At-Home Teeth Whitening:
Over-the-Counter Kits: At-home whitening kits are available at pharmacies and grocery stores and typically include whitening gels, strips, or trays.
ower Concentrations: These kits contain lower concentrations of bleaching agents compared to professional treatments, which may result in slower or less dramatic whitening.
Convenience: At-home whitening kits offer the convenience of being able to whiten your teeth on your schedule, without needing to visit a dentist's office.
Cost-Effective: At-home whitening kits are generally more affordable than professional treatments, making them a popular option for budget-conscious individuals.
Differences Between Professional Teeth Whitening and At-home Teeth Whitening
1. Effectiveness: Professional treatments tend to deliver faster and more dramatic results due to the use of higher concentrations of bleaching agents.

Want a stronger biodegradable plastic? Add a 'pinch' of cream of tartar
Cooking a delicious risotto and making plastics are actually very similar processes. In both, ingredients come together and are heated to create a product, but current recipes for synthesizing bioplastics often fall flat, producing flimsy materials. So, taking a hint from chefs, researchers now report in ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering a way to "season" biodegradable plastics to make them stronger. It just takes a "pinch" of cream of tartar (tartaric acid) or citric acid.
To help reduce the amount of plastic waste, some companies are adopting biodegradable plastics that eventually disintegrate. However, it's often the case that the more easily these materials break down, the flimsier they are, tearing apart from the slightest pressure. One solution could be to sprinkle in additives, similar to salt and pepper seasonings in cooking, to increase strength and toughness.
Some researchers have used petroleum-based additives, but they can slow down degradation and are unappealing to consumers who desire products made from natural, biologically sourced ingredients. So, Jeyoung Park, Dongyeop Oh, Hyeonyeol Jeon, Jun Mo Koo and colleagues wanted to see if "seasoning" a biodegradable bioplastic called poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) with fruit-derived tartaric acid or citric acid could improve the plastic's mechanical properties.

Pearl Perfection: The Ultimate Guide to Teeth Whitening Dentistry
Tumblr media
Introduction:
A bright and radiant smile is often considered one of the most attractive features, contributing significantly to an individual's confidence and self-esteem. Teeth whitening dentistry has emerged as a popular solution to achieve that coveted pearl-white smile. In this comprehensive guide, titled "Pearl Perfection," we will delve into the world of teeth whitening dentistry, exploring various methods, understanding the underlying principles, and highlighting the benefits of seeking the expertise of a teeth whitening dentist.
The Significance of a White Smile:
A white and dazzling smile has the power to make a lasting impression, conveying a sense of vitality, youthfulness, and good oral health. However, various factors, including lifestyle choices, aging, and certain foods and beverages, can contribute to tooth discoloration over time. Teeth whitening dentist addresses these concerns, providing individuals with an effective and safe means to restore the natural brightness of their smiles.
Understanding Teeth Discoloration:
Before delving into teeth whitening procedures, it's crucial to understand the common causes of tooth discoloration:
Staining from Foods and Beverages:
Dark-colored beverages like coffee, tea, and red wine, as well as certain foods such as berries and soy sauce, can stain teeth over time.
Tobacco Use:
Smoking and the use of tobacco products can lead to stubborn stains on teeth, contributing to a yellow or brownish appearance.
Poor Oral Hygiene:
Inadequate oral hygiene practices can result in the buildup of plaque and tartar, leading to discoloration and stains on the teeth.
Aging:
As individuals age, the enamel on the teeth naturally wears down, revealing the yellowish dentin underneath. This intrinsic discoloration is a common factor in the aging process.
Medications:
Certain medications, such as tetracycline antibiotics, can cause intrinsic stains on teeth when taken during tooth development.
Teeth Whitening Dentistry Methods:
Teeth whitening dentistry employs various methods to brighten and whiten teeth, catering to the unique needs and preferences of individuals. Let's explore some of the most common teeth whitening procedures:
In-Office Teeth Whitening:
In-office teeth whitening, also known as professional or chairside whitening, is a highly effective and fast-acting procedure performed by a teeth whitening dentist. It involves the application of a high-concentration whitening gel on the teeth, activated by a special light or laser. This method can visibly lighten teeth by several shades in a single session.
Take-Home Whitening Kits:
Take-home whitening kits provide a more gradual but still effective approach to teeth whitening. These kits typically include custom-made trays and a professional-strength whitening gel. Individuals wear the trays for a specified period each day, achieving noticeable results over the course of a few weeks.
Over-the-Counter Whitening Products:
Over-the-counter whitening products, such as whitening toothpaste, strips, and gels, are widely available for at-home use. While these products may offer some improvement, they generally contain lower concentrations of whitening agents compared to professional treatments.
Whitening Rinses:
Whitening mouth rinses are another over-the-counter option that can help reduce surface stains. However, their effectiveness may be limited compared to professional treatments.
Natural Remedies:
Some individuals explore natural remedies like oil pulling with coconut oil or using baking soda to whiten teeth. While these methods may have mild effects on surface stains, they are not as reliable or proven as professional treatments.
The Role of a Teeth Whitening Dentist:
Choosing a qualified and experienced teeth whitening dentist is pivotal in ensuring safe and effective whitening results. Here's how a dentist plays a crucial role in the teeth whitening process:
Customized Treatment Plans:
A teeth whitening dentist evaluates the individual needs and considerations of each patient, creating a customized treatment plan that addresses specific discoloration issues and aligns with the patient's goals.
Professional Assessment:
Before recommending a whitening procedure, a dentist conducts a thorough examination to identify the cause of tooth discoloration. This assessment helps determine the most suitable whitening method and ensures that underlying dental issues are addressed.
Safe and Controlled Application:
In-office whitening procedures performed by a dentist involve the application of high-concentration whitening agents. The dentist ensures that the process is controlled, safe, and tailored to minimize potential side effects like tooth sensitivity.
Monitoring and Adjustment:
During in-office treatments, a teeth whitening dentist monitors the progress closely and makes adjustments as needed to achieve optimal results. This level of supervision is not possible with over-the-counter products.
Expert Advice and Aftercare:
A teeth whitening dentist provides expert advice on maintaining the results and offers guidance on oral care practices. This includes recommendations on dietary choices, oral hygiene routines, and the use of touch-up treatments if necessary.
Benefits of Professional Teeth Whitening:
Efficiency and Speed:
In-office teeth whitening performed by a dentist delivers rapid and noticeable results in just one session, making it an ideal choice for individuals seeking immediate improvements.
Customized and Precise:
Professional teeth whitening allows for a customized and precise approach to address specific discoloration concerns. The dentist tailors the treatment to achieve natural-looking and harmonious results.
Safe and Controlled Environment:
Having teeth whitening performed by a dentist ensures that the process occurs in a safe and controlled environment. The dentist can manage any potential side effects and adjust the treatment as needed to maximize effectiveness.
Long-Lasting Results:
Professional teeth whitening tends to provide longer-lasting results compared to over-the-counter products. The expertise of a dentist contributes to achieving a more enduring and satisfying outcome.
Conclusion:
In the pursuit of pearl perfection, teeth whitening dentistry stands as a transformative solution that goes beyond surface aesthetics. By understanding the causes of tooth discoloration and exploring various whitening methods, individuals can make informed decisions to enhance their smiles.
The role of a teeth whitening dentist is indispensable in achieving safe, efficient, and customized results. From in-office treatments for immediate impact to take-home kits for gradual improvements, the guidance and expertise of a dentist contribute to a positive and satisfying teeth whitening experience.
Embracing professional teeth whitening not only restores the natural brightness of the smile but also uplifts confidence, leaving individuals with a radiant and beaming grin. As the ultimate guide to teeth whitening dentistry, "Pearl Perfection" invites everyone to explore the possibilities of a brighter and more vibrant smile, facilitated by the expertise of a qualified teeth whitening dentist.

it's missing gavin hours so naturally the only solution was to make the infamous marble chiffon cake - final verdict is very delicious, if time consuming, and i can see exactly why gavin likes it 🥳🥳
link to the recipe, plus the conversions i made from cups to grams/ml, and photographic evidence under the cut!
Tumblr media
https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/marble-chiffon-cake/
preheat to 160°C
for the cake:
7 eggs, separated
60g chocolate
350g sugar (split into 300g and 50g)
60ml hot water
250g plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda/bicarbonate of soda
180ml water
120ml vegetable oil (i only had 50ml, so i substituted the remaining 70ml with olive oil and it turned out fine)
2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
for the icing:
110g plain chocolate (i used about half dark and half milk instead, and it still tasted good)
15g butter
105ml double cream
1 tsp vanilla
130g icing sugar (it says 125-180g, but i think any more and the icing would have been too thick)

Hello!! I was curious if you had any headcannons or thoughts on how Sanitization works or how it affects whomever it hosts? Just curious, as it's such an interesting concept to me.
Honestly not really, it's a mega niche thing in the overall scale of splatoon - just like fuzzy ooze, at least at this point, 99,9% of people in Inkadia never have to even think about either of those nor probably know about them.
Based on the canon stuff which I've kinda half-focused on when i've seen stuff about it, it at least seems to be something that is induced over time through some kind of solution (the IV drips) and doesn't really spread over just the ink. Sanitization seems to be some kind of zombification pretty much, purging of free will and emotion. Of course in the game it's literally zombification given that the sanitized Octolings seem to be dead, physically (lack of heartbeat usually means you're dead), and it seems to cause physical effects like blackening of the sclera and cold-color pigments pushing out, or the warm pigments dying out, either way
Which actually now that i'm thinking about the whole thing it's made me wonder whether it's just a child-friendly way to imply that we're literally looking at dead and rotting octolings and octarians. (Octopus blood-colored with black sclerae and green skin.) But anyway
I don't really remember if there's been any type of detail on what sanitization actually does and why, as in if the goo itself wipes your consciousness pretty much and is thus inducing like, a condition. OR if the entirety of the sanitization goo is a type of mind control, which would make the sanitized organisms a type of host for a parasitic thing that just reanimates their lifeless bodies into an extension of its own (i mean, Tartar kind of does this, but it's not really elaborated on whether that's the whole thing with sanitization or if that's completely different and separate and has no significance and I wouldn't doubt that because this is splatoon). The first option seems more likely but seems kind of physically impossible given that they're implied to be dead, while the second option makes a lot of sense in the context that the sanitized Octarians ARE dead and would be moved by something else, but is more of a wild theory.
anyway I don't recall there being a whole lot of reason given for the whole thing and there's some plot holes as usual, so that's the extent of my thoughts for now

O.r.c.a: how do I deal with my enemies?
Tartar: kill them!
O.r.c.a: way too extreme, I'm looking for a more passive solution
Tartar: kill them...less?
