Grown Up Halloween Day 8 I’m Sorry
Tumblr media

Halloween Day 8
A reflection can often be as icy cold as the mirror or reflective surface that holds it, as oftentimes these reflections can not just be of the immediate sights before it, but of the harsh memories of all it has witnessed.
This particular mirror lived mounted on an oak board that sat perched on a similar oak desk, snuggly as the main feature of the bedroom of the little Stamford house. The desk, covered with a softly crochet white cloth and various items.
A tall oval perfume bottle, a crystal bowl filled with dried flowers, a small porcelain plate with chains and other such small cheap jewelry, as well as the line up of brushes and tools all with this same lavender and rose design.
Currently observing her own reflection was y/n Larkspur. As she took her almost jet black hair on her hands working it into a tight plait with a small blue ribbon inside. She hummed a gentle song to herself as she worked. Once finished she pushed herself up fixing her blue dress, not of much grand fabric but clearly well loved and well cared for, almost impossible to see the repairs and maintenance done to the dress overtime. She took her long sheer black lace cover up wrapping it around her head and shoulders for a moment checking her reflection but seeming to turn her eyes away unable to bear the sight. When in truth she put her hands to her silver locket attempting to chase away the voice that refused to leave her.
The mirrors reminded her always of his voice how he would force her to stand before them.
She tried to ignore it and hurried down the small wooden steps to the kitchen and living room, all of it dusty, dark and untouched.
She took a wicker basket of flowers from the dining table, setting it under her arm and heading out the house, locking it behind her. She took slow steps across the cobblestones, the crawling of twilight seeming to follow her as she walked down the two Empty streets, over the small bridge across the babbling Brooke, and down the well Trod path to the tall gate.
She pushed open the gate releasing a whine from its hinges which startled the small man who sat in the open doorway of the small red brick building beside the gate.
The building contained a few spades, a few watering cans, a pair of shears or two, a kettle and small lighter stove to make cups of tea, and the small wooden chair at which the man sat. He was a tall man with a mess of hair in clothes patched together. He stood up quickly as he spotted her standing there.
"Who goes there! A witch! A demon! Grave robbers?" He questioned clearly barely awake
"It's just me Asa" she smiled to the brunette
"Oh" he relaxed, putting a hand through his hair "Evening y/n, what brings you here?"
"What always brings me here Asa" she chuckled
"Oh, for a moment I had hoped you'd come to see me" he blushed resting his hand on the back of his neck
"Well I couldn't forget about you" she smiled, digging under the flowers in her basket pulling out a small tin, handing it over to him, he excitedly took it, opening the lid to reveal the sweet interior. The careful papers lining the tin with a collection of small biscuits in perfect taster sizes.
"You spoil me" he smiled "thank you very much"
"Your welcome, well I won't be long" she says heading down the path
"Ohh, did you want tea?" He calls to her as she walked
"No thank you Mr Litwick" she answered as she continued down the path listening to the gravel crunch under her boots, passing stone after stone until she stopped for a moment unable to turn her face to it. But eventually she had no choice but to look upon the grey stone moving to kneel in the grass before even facing the words she took a match from her basket striking on the stone itself before lighting the red candle that sat atop the stone. Before at last facing the words forever engraved upon it.
'Douglas Larkspur
1881 - 1905
He shall live on in the memory of his beloved wife and child'
She seemed to recoil at the writing as if forcing away her memory. She took the old dried and dead flowers from the grave replacing them with the fresh from her basket cutting them and arranging them slowly and sweetly without a word
"Did you love him?" A voice spoke up making her jump and drop a rose "sorry y/n" Asa added quickly coming to her side to help her pick the rose up without her catching her hand on the thorns
"What an awful thing to ask someone" she says taking the flower and continuing her work
"I'm sorry"
"It's quite alright, natural to be curious"
"Did you?"
"Of course I did." She snapped
"Even after everything?"
"Even after everything." She answered even if her words seemed somewhat hollow "Sometimes love can be awful, it doesn't mean it just goes away"
"Am I'm sorry y/n." He says "but if I may be so bold. It's a shame for a woman such as yourself to be a widow so young, still with so much beauty and potential. It hurts my heart to see you mourn for him still, if I may I'd love to take you out for an afternoon"
"Asa. Are you asking this question? Over the dead decaying body of my husband?"
"I'm sorry i-"
"It's alright. Perhaps another time"
"Course yes" he nods nervously helping her to her feet
She hitched her basket up her arm, kissed her fingers and used them to snuffed out the candle before setting her kissed fingers atop the stone
"Rest well Douglas" she said before she hurried away Asa having to catch up to her slightly as she headed deeper into the graveyard
"I'm sure he misses you"
"I'm sure he does" she says a coldness to her voice
"Besides you always bring his favourite flowers"
She chuckled "Douglas never had a favourite flower. He found them useless he use to say a painting on the wall decorates a room for as long as you wish, but flowers live only to wither, die and disappoint" she explained "if I wanted to make him happy, I'd bring him a bottle of cider"
"Then why do you put so much work into his flowers if you know he wouldn't like them?"
"He doesn't see them, others do. And if it brings them joy that's worth it to me." She smiled "and, to forever infuriate him"
"Did you want me to go?"
"No. It's alright Asa" she smiled as she stopped at a small gravestone, three names that shared a plot, Each name etched into the stone with slight differences in wear where they had clearly been added at different times to the one stone each with corresponding years blow their names
'Mara Larkspur 1899
Clay Larkspur 1902
Delores Larkspur 1905'
With no more information given.
She kneeled in the grass fighting back her tears as she arranged the best of the flowers she had that she had saved for them making sure they each had a bouquet of their own.
Asa could only watch fighting back his own tears to watch her.
"I'm so sorry y/n"
"It's alright," she answered, picking herself up from the grass, stroking her hand across the top of the stone before she hurried away down the path Asa followed behind her till they reached the gate.
"Would you like me to walk you home?"
"It's alright Asa. I can make my own way home" she smiled "thank you for your company this evening"
"Your welcome, anytime you need my company you know where to find me" he smiled
She nodded and pulled open the gate slowly heading back to her house.
Once returning to her house she simply scurried to her bedroom changing into her nightie, undoing her hair to replait it and then pin it up in a milkmaid Braid. She checked herself over in the mirror but not the one that sat on her vanity the tall oval mirror on a stand cracked across the whole length. She forced it away and climbed into bed unable to chase away the reflection of that very day.
y/n stood feeling as beautiful as she ever had before, unable to remove her gaze from herself in the long oval mirror. Her sweet little grey shoes tied up tightly, her stockings and undergarments as they should be, her long cream dress over her, a wide smile across her lips. Her hair pinned up with flowers sat in it. All while her mother made a fuss of her.
"Look at you, a blushing bride Indeed" she cooed
"Thank you" she smiled
"Well I think we pulled it off given the short notice" she laughed playing with the dresses skirt
"I think so" she smiled
"There she is. My little girl" her father smiled heading in "you ready?"
"I believe so" she nods
"Alright, don't want to keep him waiting" he says offering his arm which she happily took taking a bouquet of flowers from her mother's arm but after merely a single step she tipped on her dress hitting the mirror as she fell causing the glass to crack and break luckily she only had a small cut so her father helped her up and they quickly bandaged it "well that certainly is a bad omen, let's hope it is the only bad luck of this day" he says
She nodded and followed her father down to the cobblestone streets past the sweet flowers in the gardens of the houses on the way to the tall stone church on the corner where some cream ribbons rested in decoration.
They headed Inside her mother rushing ahead to take her seat leaving her and her father to lingerie outside for a moment,
"I'm sure you two will be very happy together," he smiled giving her head a kiss before they headed Inside, the church was mostly empty only the first row of peues where even occupied her mother on one side with a space for her father, and his mother and father on the other with him sat with them waiting but he perked up and stood as he saw her enter fixing his pressed shirt as he only had a decent pair of trousers, his polished shoes, a well cream button down and his grey suspenders he didn't look at her facing the priest holding his hands tightly. Once they reached him her father tapped his shoulder he sighed a moment before he turned giving a half hearted smile to her fixing a strand or three of his golden hair
"You take care of her" he warned and he nodded giving y/n a kiss on the hand before sitting with her mother.
He turned back to face the priest so she stood beside him gripping her flowers hard even with her bandage.
"Hello y/n" he spoke up
"Hello Douglas" she smiled even if it was a hollow smile with little substance to it, begrudgingly he offered his hand which she took giving a squeeze her eyes glancing at him in hope of a moment of connection but nothing in fact all her eyes could focus on was the strong outline of the rounded square in his pocket which immediately made her look away fighting back tears.
The ceremony was quick and with little thrills or romance mostly boiling down to the basic vows and little else
"Congratulations Mr and Mrs Larkspur" the priest smiled and immediately the families came to congratulate them whisking them happily out of the church without a celebratory bell at all.
Both sets of parents headed off down the street to begin celebrations in the town pub leaving y/n and Douglas standing on the church steps watching them go.
They didn't exchange a word, even a glance. But y/n broke this silence
"You promised me you wouldn't" she said doing her best not to expose her fears
"Oh for-" he began "y/n. You've been my wife for less than five minutes, can you just… not."
"Sorry"
"It's fine." He sighed taking the silver hip flask from his pocket unscrewing it and taking a swig seeming much happier once he did staring into the flask for a moment as he spoke "we both know I wouldn't have gone through with this… if I hadn't had to"
"I know" she nods "I thought I did a good job, you can barely see" she smiled
"Oh you can see it y/n" he says wiping the smile from her face "still suppose we should make the best of things" he sighed returning his flask to his pocket "come along wifey, before I wrap a chain around your neck" he warned heading down the stairs and into town too
She didn't cry, she held it back noticing that her hand had blead though it's bandage leaving a couple red stains on her cream dress.
She thought back then suddenly memories that flooded her mind of blood on cream fabric and just how many times she had seen it in her life. Too many, too many times.

For the record, you’d never once been so thoroughly stupefied by anything the entirety of your existence. Not that much has ever happened before this...debacle, but still.
Lying on the ground, however, draped with a recently statue-turned-man as the faces of every person who’d openly mocked your beliefs sit painted with the same concoction of horrified wonder, it was safe to say, this was definitely a first.
It was like your mind was awake while your body lay paralyzed. Thought after thought, albeit incoherent, made rounds throughout your consciousness. Limbs splayed across the dirt, useless, like those of a rag doll.
Perhaps part of the initial stun could be blamed by the impact with which the body crashed into yours, as well as the force of hitting the ground.
Maybe, in your likely now-concussed state, you were not actually under a man who a mere moment ago was marble. It’s believable that this was all just some brain-trauma induced hallucination. You probably just tripped on your way to the statue and hit your head. Really, really hard.
That scenario could have very much been the one you decided to go with, that is, until the man started to lift himself up, just enough to look down at you.
Even if you didn’t want to lock eyes with the, admittedly, incredibly handsome man you found yourself in such a precarious situation with, it wasn’t like you had any other choice.
Space only big enough for a single breathe lay between you.
His eyes, a lovely dark, warm brown shade that gave you such an odd sense of security, studied your own.
This close, every detail of his face was on HD display for you, from the length of his lashes, the slope of his nose, to the curve and plushness of his lips. Horrifyingly enough for you, that meant every one of your flaws must be painfully on display for him as well. Look at you now, suddenly worried about how you looked to a once-inanimate object.
It was an oddly intimate moment, one that you weren’t quite sure you wanted to end before it had begun, or to continue forever, until the sun set and the stars shone and everything in-between. The way your head swam, thoughts torn between two opposing sides, a regular Capulet-Montague affair within, it was like losing sense of yourself.
There was no way this was really happening; that this man has come to life at your hand. However, you couldn’t deny the tangible evidence that is the vessel hovering over you now. Oh yeah, there’s a strange man on top of you...and everyone is watching.
Like a cadaver reanimated by a bolt of lightning, you shot away from the man, pushing yourself back on your butt and scooching like a child until you were satisfied with the distance between. Skin painfully alight with the burn of embarrassment, you didn’t dare look back into the eyes of your ‘soulmate’ just yet.
‘Soulmate,’ it’s like that very word incited an allergic reaction in which your body suddenly had the urge to convulse until whatever contents remained in your stomach were one with the earth.
Trying merely to catch your breathe, you almost didn’t register the warmth of a hand pressing firmly to your back.
“I, um, think we should take this somewhere more...private, perhaps?”
That voice, the slightly monotone, yet strangely comforting voice of the girl you both tolerated and treasured. The only one that treated you as an equal; an actual human being.
“Mira...” It sounded choked, weak, like saying her name was a laboring task you weren’t sure you could handle. Turning back to look at her, you could tell how horrified you must have looked based on her own expression.
If anyone knew what to do in this insane situation, it’d be her.
Rising to her feet, Mira took in the way your body curled in on itself, to shield you from the alarming situation of which you had no control over and no clue how to precede. It stung at a piece of her that had been buried deep down inside for a long time.
Strange, was all she could pen it as, but you are her companion here, and it was her duty to aid you in this, especially considering the circumstances.
———
The walk home was quiet. One on the outside might almost call it peaceful, tranquil, but it was none of the above.
After suggesting to take this to her home, Mira helped you and the stranger to your feet and broke up the little side-show that had gathered. The townspeople were a mixture of curious, horrified, and smug; seeing the girl they taunted get stuck in this situation was irony at its finest.
While there were plenty of broken hearts staggering their way back to their homes with heavy souls, no one could deny that this was fate, and whether they agreed with the outcome or not, it was not their place to question.
Many, however, did get a good laugh in when you had paced frantically around the circle created around you, practically begging people to take the man instead. It was pathetic, sad, pitiful, and it left all with a disturbing sense of pride.
‘Serves her right,’ they all thought, only speaking it aloud once they were sheltered within their own walls.
They weren’t wrong though, you did look and feel wholly pathetic. On the verge of tears, begging people you loathed to help you, and right in front of the poor, confused man who was at no more fault than you. It wasn’t your best moment.
Thus, the journey to Mira’s was awkward if anything. You strode a few paces ahead, mind foggy and emotions scattered like confetti. Mira made a comfortable wall between you and the man, who brought up the rear, taking in his surroundings with curiosity and a weird sense of familiarity.
Nobody dared say anything, not that there was much to talk about at the moment. Tensions were running high, and a calm, quiet, middle ground was needed before any successful conversations were to be had.
You couldn’t help the slight tears pricking at your lash line, threatening to spill over any second. It made you feel dumb, crying over something as if you were a child who didn’t get their way.
But the thought of spending the rest of your life otherworldly attached to a person you’ve never met before was terrifying. It has always been you on your own. You have enough struggles as it is. Oh, how mother will get a kick out of this.
Your mind wondered if she would even understand what was going on. She’d been in the home on the east side for a few years now, after the dementia got to be too much for you to deal with alone. She’s doing better there anyways, and it wasn’t like you weren’t unaccustomed to going it solo anyways.
Your head slowly swiveled back to catch a quick glimpse of the man behind you. He was swinging his head side to side, back and forth, taking in everything like a puppy. His clothes, now that you were looking, were very outdated, things you’d never seen before except in history books or century dramas on Netflix. He didn’t look real. Another irony, you guess.
Before you could turn back and focus on the road ahead of you, his eyes shot down to catch yours. He didn’t seem scared, upset, or even worried. In fact, he looked almost sympathetic. It probably had to do with the terrified expression you had a hard time fighting every time he caught your gaze. The heat crept up your neck quickly and you shot your head forward to get away from his stare.
Before you knew it, you were standing shoulder to shoulder with the man as Mira unlocked and swung her front door open. The porch creaked under your weight as you shifted to gain some space, the nervousness making you antsy and unable to stand still. He didn’t seem to notice you move away from him, but you weren’t about to look at him and check.
Once inside, you placed yourself in one of the large wicker dining chairs you occupied often during long debates with Mira over the years. Her house was quaint and quite charming. A decent size, especially for her living alone, and giving off a rustic, bohemian air that made it feel homey to even the most distant of strangers.
Speaking of strangers, it was an odd sight to say the least, watching the tall man cross the room stiffly, dropping down onto the velvet couch with a sigh. The humanness he possessed after being rock only a few hours ago was unsettling. You don’t know what you expected him to act like, but then again, any expectations were out the window and 100 miles downwind by now.
Considering how off-put you are by the whole thing, it both amazed and scared you how easy it was for your gaze to linger over him. What it was that pulled you to him, you couldn’t put your finger on- no, you didn’t want to put your finger on in fear of the implications. The longer you were in his presence, though, the more curious you became. And we all know how curiosity plays out, just ask the cat.
Again, as if you both really were connected in some fantastical way, his eyes instantly found yours. This time, however, the nervous heat that usually accompanied it vanished. Instead, locking eyes almost brought an innate sense of peace within you; comfort.
“So, would either of you like some tea?” Mira’s way of easing the awkward air quickly broke the two of you from...whatever that was, and it immediately threw you back on edge. Grabbing the edge of the chair till your knuckles paled, your voice took on a defensive tone.
“ I’d like to know what the hell is going on.” Laced with a sharp venom you weren’t even aware you were capable of, the statement immediately caught all attentions, air increasing in its thickness instead of dissipating like Mira had hoped.
You couldn’t bring yourself to look back at the man, so instead you focused all of your negative energy, unfairly, on Mira. Her face twisted into an uncomfortable grimace as she thought of the best way to talk you down from your growing agitation, but before she could speak, a light chuckle wafted through the tiny room.
That snapped both of your heads towards Mr. post-statue.
Even with both of your uncomfortable gazes, he didn’t seem affected. It wasn’t like he couldn’t read the room, or understand the gravity of the situation. It was more like he had this innate sense of optimism; that everything was going to work out and he just didn’t see the point in getting so serious.
“I think it’s pretty obvious what’s going on.” You wouldn’t say you were surprised by the soft, honey-tone of his voice, or that you were entranced by it, but if you were to deny, you’d be utterly lying to yourself.
Maybe there was more to this soulmate thing than just waking him up and living ‘happily ever after’. Was it possible there were physical and psychological changes that came along with it? It doesn’t seem too far fetched considering the events that have taken place today. At this point, anything could happen and you wouldn’t be any more surprised. Maybe it’s the shock talking.
“What?” Once you said it, you want to take it back. God, could you sound any dumber? The first thing you say directly to him, and it’s an idiotic reiteration that makes you sound like you can’t infer from context clues and common-freaking-sense what he means.
A quick urge to bury yourself somewhere far away from here shoots through your being, but it’s not a look of disdain that you are met with, but a sweet, soft, smile. It’s not that he seems to pity you in any way, but that somehow knows exactly what you’re feeling without you having to say it. Although, now that you’ve realized it, that small sense of fright wiggles in the back of your mind. A stranger should not be able to read you as easily as he is.
“If I’m awake, it means the spell is broken.”
You stare at him as his face lights up, as if remembering something wonderful; a long lost memory just now recalled.
Suddenly, he bolts up, coming straight for you. Despite your heart protesting, your body starts, pushing yourself as far against the chair and curling tight to protect yourself. As you flinch, your eyes shut and you suck a quick breath in. Like being charged by a fearsome beast, you react in such a way that you don’t even have to open your eyes to know the affect.
The footsteps stop instantly, and when you do open your eyes, you see the man frozen in place, face paled and arms limp at his sides. He was only a few feet away, but even when he shortened the distance between you, he suddenly felt further away now than before.
The guilt of reacting in such a way was a feeling you weren’t accustomed to, and you couldn’t lie that you felt worse after seeing the pained expression on his face.
He slowly backed his way back to the couch, lowering down onto it while avoiding your gaze. Strange how quickly it went from you avoiding his, to him avoiding yours.
“I’m sorry...I know...I know how scary this must be, and I shouldn’t have gotten so excited,” he started, voice low and cautious, like he was afraid to scare you again. Seeing the hurt in his eyes and hearing the strain in his voice affected you more than it should.
Carefully, your body returned to its original position, unfurling to show him that you weren’t afraid of him. You don’t know why it was suddenly so important for you to assure him but it was a natural reaction you didn’t think twice about.
Brown eyes once again catching your own, you tried your best to give him an apathetic smile, something to rid his beautiful features of that sorrow you inadvertently caused. When his eyes shone with a newly-gained light as the corner of his mouth upturned the slightest bit to return your gesture, you knew that no matter the insanity of this situation, you’d probably do just about anything to keep that smile on his face.
“I just never thought this would happen.” A slight pink hue rises to the apples of his cheeks and it takes a strong part of you to hold yourself together and not swoon at how adorable he looked.
“That what would happen?” Mira speaks up and reminds you that you are, in fact, not alone and you recompose yourself.
The man clears his throat and despite the increasing blush on his cheeks, he manages to look from Mira back to you, bringing his hand up to scratch the back of his neck.
“That my soulmate would find me.” This time it’s you whose blushing, the heat creeping up and spreading to every part of your body. The implications of being a soulmate, let alone to someone you don’t know, made the uneasiness resurface. Even though you felt a growing warmth for this random man, you weren’t about to throw your inhibitions out the window all for the sake of being ‘soulmates.’
As cliché-fairy-tale-garbage as this whole thing seems, you weren’t some dim-witted damsel who’d fall for a man she just met.
“Maybe you should start with introductions, stave off the soulmate thing for a moment.” Mira sends you an understanding smile, knowing that you’d lack the frame of mind to conduct this conversation without her assistance.
A breath you hadn’t known you’d been holding escapes your lips in a relieved sigh. Turning back to the man, you muster up enough courage to rise from your seat, cross the wooden floor, and stop before him. Shaking slightly, your right hand reaches out to rest midair in front of him, fingers open and waiting.
“I’m Y/N.”
He looks at your fingers, then up at you, then fingers again. Slowly, his hand approaches yours, gliding softly against the pads of your fingertips before lightly grasping your hand in his. Before you can signal your arm to start a shaking motion, he brings your hand towards him and delicately places a soft kiss to the skin of your knuckles. You can feel his lips curl into a smile against your skin, and suddenly it feels like the Sahara desert in the sweltering summer months.
“My name is Seokjin. It’s nice to finally meet you, Y/N.”

A.N.,
 This part is more-so an establishing piece. I know not much goes on plot-wise, but I needed to develop the dynamic before any of the juicy bits can happen. I hope you all understand and like this newest edition to the story. I originally planned this to be a 3 part series, but there will definitely be more than 3 parts, oops. I hope you all stick around for the ride, and thank you for all the love and support!💜

The Crimson Gala
The Gala. A yearly event that struck fear into the hearts of the townsfolk. A handful of people are randomly selected to be taken to the lair of their dictators to ensure their prosperous lifestyles; as is how it's been for generations.
Based on Artsy’s art from tumblr/Instagram!
___________
Of course; Willow was chosen. The mayor’s son had made unwanted advancements and she told him to fuck off, multiple times. Then one of the town’s food stores burnt down. Willow had... a history. Accidents when she was younger; still trying to understand her place in the world and the desires she had in regards to fire. She caused a few fires, nothing too major. No one died. Not in her fires anyway. But she was branded as a pyromaniac no matter how much control she had over herself now. The blame for the massive loss was pinned upon her, silence falling upon all those she had previously trusted. Eye contact was refused when she pleaded to her innocence, heads shook disappointingly. But the benevolent mayor forgave her; said that they all made mistakes. Then his damned son pushed himself on her again; pig-faced and spoilt. She owed him apparently, as his father was so lenient to her.
She broke his nose.
Now she was dressed up like a slut and standing in a ballroom, gathering in front of a set of chairs. She recognised other people from her town; but there were so many other people here. How many of them were like her? How many were here to be sacrificed for the ‘good of their people’? Surely everyone standing couldn’t be one of those things, nor could they all be here to die. A handful of people walked in; lavishly dressed in black, red and gold. Those must be them. That meant everyone else was cattle? An older looking man stood up front, a smile showing off large fangs.
“Ladies and gentlemen, friends and esteemed... guests. Welcome to this year’s gala! I trust this will be just as enjoyable as the ones before. Please; dine, drink and be merry! Let the festivities commence and allow this year be as prosperous as the last.” A band begun playing, conversation increasing in volume.
Willow’s heart was in her throat; she expected it to be a bloodbath. Yet here she was, standing in a skimpy dress, people seemingly enjoying themselves. Maybe she could sneak away? Was this even the slaughter she imagined? Slowly she made her way over to a large table, picking up a glass full of some kind of red liquid. Was this blood?
“It’s wine sweetheart. An old vintage. Priceless.” She turned to meet the gaze of a woman, tall and elegantly dressed in flowing black. She flashed a sharp smile, causing Willow to swallow a lump in her throat. “Don’t be shy, you can have anything you want on the table.” Long slender nails plucked an item form the table, offering it to Willow. “Foie gras. A French dish.” Willow took it and hesitantly put it in her mouth. It was creamy, savoury, salty, the crunch of the cracker changing the texture. She’d never had something so nice, never had the money to have something so nice.
“What is it?” Maybe these creatures weren’t as bloodthirsty as the rumours said.
“Liver.” Her heart dropped, stomach turning in on itself. The countess must have seen her face drop as she let out a chuckle.
“Duck liver. Not human.” Of course it was. Why would it have been human?
A scream sounded out, a man sprinting at full speed across the ballroom. “The first runner!” The air beside Willow moved and the woman was gone. In moments the countess had the man’s head in her hand, lifting him off the ground. He cried and flailed, screaming obscenities at his captor. “I got him!” A small round of applause came from various members of the crowd. “Who would like the honours? Miss Wicker?” An elderly woman shook her head. “How about you Wilson?”
“You caught him Charlotte, you have the honours.” She gave a light giggle before bringing her hand back, plunging it into the man’s chest with a sickening crack. As she pulled her hand back out, blood sprayed over her dress and with pride she held his still beating heart in her hand for all to see.
“All those who attempt to escape will be part of the hunt later this evening. Allow this to be a warning.” Charlie dropped the body, letting it hit the ground with a wet thump. As she stepped away, biting into the heart, the corpse was swarmed. Blood pooled on the ground as teeth tore into flesh ravenously. Willow’s own blood ran cold. A few people screamed, others sobbing. She swore people were being dragged away.
She was going to die here.
The food. The drinks. The music. The dancing. It was all a façade. They really were just cattle for slaughter.
~~~~~
Willow spent as much time as possible making herself as small as possible. She was frightened and exposed, silky white adorning her loosely. She wanted to scream, to rip out the crimson flowers in her hair and on her dress. To grab a knife and go down fighting! But… the image of that woman with the heart in her hands was too much for her. The trouble makers were taken away for ‘the hunt’. She didn’t want to be a part of that.
Willow downed glasses of wine, feeling the heat of the alcohol inside her. She wished that this would just be over and done with, maybe she should just off herself to save her dignity. All she could do was look back and forth, avoiding those who approached her. During this glance around she noticed a pair hiding behind one of the columns in the ballroom’s far corner. They were… really going at it. Hands running through hair, under clothing and faces pressed together. It was kind of mesmerising to watch. Two people totally shut out from those around them, just focused on the other.
“Would you please join me for a dance miss?” Startled, Willow snapped her attention to the man in front of her. Shit. She got distracted by the dumb people making out. They extended an arm out, white fills billowing from their attire. Willow stuttered, searching for a reason to decline.
“I-I uh… I’m not really much of a dancer. S-sorry.”
“Nonsense. Just allow me to lead, I’ll teach you.” The ravenette flashed a smile, the tips of fangs peaking out from under his lips. Oh fuck. He was one of them. Panic started to flood through her system. He was talking her hand, pulling her away from the edge of the room. She felt vulnerable, it didn’t help that she was basically wearing glorified bedsheet. Willow could feel her limbs shake, he wouldn’t kill her for no reason would he? Maybe he would. She had no idea.
Wilson had been watching the woman for a while now. Watching her weave in and out of the crowd, a lacy garter flashing every now and then. It would be a lie if he said he wasn’t attracted to her, but it wasn’t the first time a beautiful person had come to the gala. Nevertheless, he wanted her.
Café Calico
Tumblr media
Member: Xiumin (Minseok of EXO)
word count: 1971
parts: yi | er | san
Author’s note: guess who is stanning exo hardcore? me? lmao. Enjoy this Minseok fic while jamming to Sehun’s solo <On Me> (read: watch as I fucking throw it back!)
Moodboard by me
A plump white – orange cat perches herself on the top shelf decorating the wall. Lined amongst the same white wall are shelves hoisting props and décor amongst other paraphernalia. The hum of the coffee machine drowns the chatter people make amongst themselves as the smell of coffee overwhelms the senses. The chime of the door signals another costumer entering, and the plump cat makes their way down to the counter, where a meow signals its owner. After fixing another order, the cat keens at the site of their owner in the register.
“Hello welcome to café calico, what’s your order?”
The glow of the sunlight dims as night appears. Café Calico remains open until the stroke of nine, when the last costumer bids the café goodbye and the staff starts to clean up. The sound of wicker chairs being dragged around and the muted sound of tables being wiped didn’t disturb the owner who was stacking up bills behind the counter.
Folded arms appear in their vision, and the owner looked up from counting paper bills to the smiling face of one of the employees. The pink lipstick on her lips was just as friendly as the glint in their eyes, “So boss, any plans?”
The boss in question rolls their eyes, “No plans, especially going out with you.” A playful smile crosses her lips.
“Aw c’mon!” her employee, Hana, whines. The other employees look at them with mirth and a sparkle of happiness that comes from seeing their boss being utterly unaffected by the childish cries Sana pulls out.
“Hana, the reason why I let everyone clock out by 9 pm every Saturday is so that everyone can have a good night’s rest.” You chuckle, “and that includes me.” The bills are accounted for and you start fixing the station.
“I don’t see you with a special someone” Hana grumbles, “and I wish to change that” the wistful look in her face reminds you of someone who is actually special in your life. The plump orange – white cat beside your meowed at the expression you were pulling.
You chuckle at her, “The same could be said about you Hana” you don’t miss the look of utter betrayal at the comment you chucked at her.
It didn’t take long for 9 o’clock to arrive. You chuckle at Hana’s last comment, “I won’t be quitting until you give in!” as you waved goodbye at your employees walking out. The dimness of the café accompanies you, along with the soft purr of the plump cat beside you as you scratch her chin. Binnie, as you affectionately named her, lies down on the table where you currently propped yourself in.
The street lamp in front of the café casts shadows amongst the passer-bys. One of them just happens to take a turn. The chime of the bell rings and it doesn’t take a meow from your cat for you to notice who it was.
His Cheshire smile didn’t fail to make your heart race, and the cold wind that comes in with his entrance didn’t dither the flush of warmth racing around your body. Your cheeks flushed red and it didn’t take long for you to be enveloped in his embrace.
“Minseok” you mumbled, the smell of his cologne that was imprinted on his moss green coat reminded you that he left his sweater here; your last encounter with him gave him a good reason to forget about it.
The said man gave you a smile full of mirth, the corners of his lips curling as you both pulled away, “how are you? I missed you.” His fingers weaved through your hair in short strokes.
You couldn’t help but clasp your hand together behind his back against his coat. You can’t help but peck his lips. You were about to give him a solid kiss when your cat decided to weave her way through both of your legs.
“Okay, Binnie.” Minseok picked her up and carried the cat like a baby, “I’m sorry. I miss you too.” The plump cat meowed as a response and twisted against Minseok’s arms. You took that as a signal to bring her out of his arms before she gets too fussy.
“Binnie” your tone made your cat meow again in response, tail high up and sassy.
Minseok redirected your attention to him by cupping your cheek, “Hey, I’m hungry. Why don’t we order chicken on the way back to my place?”
At the mention of chicken, your mouth watered a little bit, “I’d really, really, really love that.”
Minseok laughed at your need for chicken as you went at the back room to get Binnie’s cat carrier and your navy-blue coat. As you shrugged on your coat over your form, your white dress longer than the coat, Minseok went ahead and helped Binnie onto her cat carrier.
“Thank you” you said as Minseok locked up her carrier. You were about take the carrier from his grasp when he swatted your hand away, “No, I want to hold your hand.”
Well, you couldn’t say no to that.
After locking up the café, your hand had no time to be enveloped by the cold air of September as Minseok immediately held your hand in his, the other one being occupied by the handle of the cat carrier.
He led you to an alley where he parked his car. Minseok opens the back door to put in Binnie in her carrier and then opened the passenger side for you. He slid in right after.
Whilst on the road, Minseok handed you his cellphone, “Go ahead and order some chicken, I still have some beer at home.” You hummed as you grabbed his phone and opened the delivery app, mulling over the choices. Chanyeol’s Yours was playing from the Bluetooth speaker, and you couldn’t help but hum over Lee Hi’s parts.
It wasn’t long after you guys arrived at Minseok’s place when the doorbell rang. You occupied yourself with Tan and Binnie as Minseok took care of the delivery. You heard the door shut as Minseok made his way to the dining table.
“Let’s eat?”
“So, how was your day?” You asked him as you took a big bite of the honey-glazed chicken thigh. You could feel your taste buds sing at the juiciness of the chicken.
Minseok picked up a spicy chicken wing from the pile, “Eventful. The company asked me if I wanted to put out a solo album.” He answered before taking a bite. Your eyes widened from his news.
It wasn’t long ago that Minseok was discharged from the military. However, you were Minseok and EXO’s little secret. The company didn’t even know that you were in Minseok’s life, not even his managers know. You were present in his Xiuweet Time fan meet and was even able to attend CBXes last concert before his enlistment. However, your relationship was established way before he enlisted; a well-kept secret that you, him and his members kept for a good four years to present.
“Well?” you look at him expectantly, the scene funny in Minseok’s point of view as your expression, the little bit of sauce on the corner of your lip and the way you held your chicken thigh brought a smile to his face, “what did you say? And what’s so funny?”
“You’re funny, baby,” he said as he wiped off the sauce from your lips, “I said yes. I think I’m ready for that step in my career.”
Your heart swelled at his answer and you couldn’t help but hugged him, happiness fuelling the action. You kissed his cheek with pride, “I can’t wait! I’m so excited for you!”
The ever calming Minseok could only rub your hip with his one free hand, joy shining in his eyes as his girlfriend babbled on about how excited she is and what possibly could be the concept of his album and what genre he might be interested in working.
“Ya, look at you” his laugh didn’t hide the amusement he had, “you’re acting like our HR team.”
“I might as well be” you replied to him as you pick up another chicken thigh.
“Well, I just said yes, we’ll start talking about it tomorrow.” Cleaning his hands with a wet wipe, he grabbed your waist and pulled you onto his lap, “Don’t even think that’ll even you’ll have a peak of it.”
You whined at his statement, “Please?”
He kissed the nape of your neck, and you could feel his breath on your nape, “Nope. It’s going to be a surprise, baby.”
“I hope you’ll like it though,” you twisted to look at him, his eyes giving off a thousand messages, “I’ll probably love it.”
Your answer made him smile into the kiss. A meow from the far corner of the living room broke the kiss off, and you focused your attention to Tan and Binnie as they both play around the tall cat tower Minseok has in his living room.
“Oh babies, are you hungry?” you called out to them in the best baby voice you could muster, “I’m sorry, are you guys hungry?” you stretched your arms for the one of the two cats to bundle over. Tan jumped onto you and climbed onto your shoulders while Binnie dropped down to the floor and weaved herself through your legs, “Okay then, let’s go get you some food okay? Hm?” you and the cats head to the kitchen leaving your boyfriend on the dining table, “Hey! What about me?”
“You can feed yourself” a groan echoed at your reply, and you chuckled at your boyfriend’s reaction.
As you bend down to scoop cat food onto their respective trays, a sudden warmth embraced you. You could feel your boyfriend hard chest against your back. Due to the position both of you are in, heat rushed to your cheeks, “Min, you’re not exactly the lightest guy I know.” Minseok adjusted his positions as you stood straight.
He didn’t reply and just held onto your waist tighter. You rolled your eyes at his actions but still placed your hand on top of his, “What’s up?”
“I love you” Minseok hummed as he started peppering your shoulder with kisses, and your heart fluttered at the action.
Minseok stopped his actions to ask you, “Can you stay the night?”
It wasn’t often that you stayed over. In the past, it wasn’t until he moved to his own space, and after his own heart4u series was filmed that you started coming by to his place. Most of the time he’d drop you off at your place after a night out. There were also times were you and Minseok had chances where you both got carried away in your actions, resulting in you staying over.
“What’s in it for me?” you asked him as he started kissing your neck, his ministrations stoking a different kind of warmth within you.
Minseok turned you around and cupped your cheeks, his lips pressed against yours as one of his hands slid from your cheeks to find hold at your back.
“Anything you’d like,” Minseok mused, his actions on your neck causing your knees to buckle a bit.
A pat on your thigh prompted you to jump and wrap your legs around his waist, while Minseok kisses you on the lips again, pressing you against the wall. You pull away from his ministrations, the heat of his breath ghosting just above your lips, “Anything?”
“Mhmhm”
“What about a peek at your solo?”
Your boyfriend’s look darkened, “You’ve gotten cheeky, baby.”
“Have I now?” His thumb is lightly pressed against your bottom lip. You proceeded to take his thumb past your lips. Your boyfriend groaned at the action.
No words were uttered as Minseok proceeded to carry you to the bedroom.
MANGO WOOD: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW
Mangifera Indica or the delicious Mango, is a fruit well known across the world. But did you know that the wood from its trees is quite useful too. Yes, I am talking about Mango Wood! Only a small percentage of people who devour this fruit know how incredible its wood is.
Strong and sturdy, Mango wood is found mostly in India and is used to create a wide range of furniture. Chairs, bar stools, benches, sideboards, cabinets, closets, dining room tables, dressers, desks etc. anything and everything can be made from it. Here are a few properties of Mango wood that make it exceptional for furniture-making.
Characteristics of Mango Wood
Mango wood is light to golden brown in color. It falls under the Hardwood category, but it’s ideal for making furniture because it’s soft. It has fine, dense grain and medium to coarse texture. Being highly resistant to water, Mango wood is often used for making outdoor furniture.
A unique effect called ‘Spalting’, usually present in Mango wood is the colouration found in wood due to fungi. This effect is pleasing to the eye as it results in streaks of various colours such as amber, yellow, black, green and even pink. Loved by both craftsmen and customers, this makes Mango wood furniture look exotic and one of a kind! You must be thinking how and why you should use Mango Wood furniture. There are a lot of reasons why!
Why Use Mango Wood Furniture
Aesthetically pleasing.    The distinctive texture and patterns present in this wood (can be seen in the swatch above) are a delight to look at. For those who look for uniqueness in their furniture should definitely go for Mango wood furniture.
Stains well.    Mango wood responds beautifully to wood stains. Stains and waxes highlight the natural color of this wood and give definition to its pleasing patterns. Stains also increase its durability. Because it’s densely grained, it can be polished well. Distress effect also looks great on Mango wood.
